Lewis Cope and Katya Jones became the latest couple to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals of the BBC competition
Reaction to Lewis Cope and Katya Jones’ shock Strictly exit as fans ‘figure out’ why they were voted off
- Katya Jones and Lewis Cope were voted of Strictly Come Dancing a week before the semi-finals. The duo lost out in the dance off to Nikita Guzman and Amber Davies.
- All four judges opted to send home the pair after they found themselves in the bottom two. However, Anton Du Beke said they will go down as the most talented couple to fail to make the semis. They had performed a West Side Story salsa, but it failed to impress either the judges or the voting public.
- Despite some fans being shocked at their exit, others thought the writing had long been on the wall. Some viewers had been turning away from the polished and professional star after Lewis had appeared in the dance musical Billy Elliott as a child.
- But Lewis always claimed the moment hadn’t helped him on his Strictly journey. Emmerdale star Lewis was also part of the dance troupe Ruff Diamond, who finished as runner-up on the Sky dance contest Got to Dance, which was fronted by Ashley Banjo, in 2013.
- Lewis previously told OK: “It’s strange to hear that I’m some kind of ‘professional dancer’. It’s been so long since I danced, and I never trained professionally. I did Billy Elliot The Musical when I was 11, but I wasn’t good enough to play Billy Elliot, so I played Michael and just did some tap dance.
