A fatal shooting in Eungella has prompted a police manhunt just 20 minutes from the I’m A Celebrity camp, with show bosses acting swiftly to ensure the safety of the entire team
Police have launched a manhunt just a stone’s throw from the I’m A Celebrity camp following a fatal shooting that left one man dead. The 41-year-old victim was gunned down at a property and pronounced dead at the scene, whilst two other individuals suffered injuries.
The shooter and an accomplice made their escape from Eungella, New South Wales, prompting a major police operation. On Wednesday (December 3), officers were called to the incident at 1.25pm and immediately launched a search operation in the town, situated merely 20 minutes from Camp Dungay where the celebrities would have been present at the time.
Reports indicate that a 38 year old man was shot but subsequently received medical treatment at a nearby hospital, according to the Express. In a separate incident on the same street, a 45-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and later hospitalised before being placed under police supervision.
He has now been taken into custody alongside a suspected accomplice, though local authorities have yet to disclose the specific charges the pair are facing. A source revealed to The Sun: “The jungle security bosses keep their ears to the ground and are well-aware of what’s going on in the local area.
“If something has happened nearby, they will know about it – and they act swiftly to ensure the safety of the entire team at all times. Fortunately, no one connected with the show’s production was in any way affected by this incident.”
The New South Wales Police Force have since spoken out about the incident, telling the outlet: “Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District have been told two men, aged 41 and 38, were allegedly shot by another man, who ran from the scene with a fourth man.
“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the older man at the property for a gunshot wound; however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.”
Detectives are now keen to interview both the shooting survivor and the hit-and-run victim as part of their investigation. Authorities stated: “Police are now waiting to speak with those men to establish the circumstances of how both were injured. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Tweed Heads Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Another star is set to leave the jungle in tonight’s episode, after viewers watched Kelly Brook become the fourth to be booted from the show.
She followed Alex Scott, Eddie Kadi and Vogue Williams out of the jungle.
