Democrat Abdul El-Sayed has won Michigan’s closely watched U.S. Senate race, defeating Republican Mike Rogers and becoming the country’s first Muslim senator.
His victory comes as Democrats secured control of the upper chamber on Tuesday, giving the party a decisive Senate majority.
