Track World Championships: Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell compete for GB

Olympic and defending world champions will be competing at the Shanghai Velodrome for the 2026 Track World Championships this week, and you can watch it on the BBC.

There are 22 titles at stake and this is the first track cycling qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The championships, taking place between 14 and 18 October, will see riders compete for the coveted rainbow jerseys in a range of disciplines, with events split between endurance and sprint.

Great Britain finished second in 2025 with the Netherlands taking top spot with nine gold medals. Harrie Lavreysen was once again the dominant force for the Dutch team, winning an incredible four gold medals in the Keirin, Sprint, 1km Time Trial and the Team Sprint.

GB will be without one of their most decorated track cyclists, as reigning Madison world champion Katie Archibald hung up her cleats in May this year to pursue a career in nursing. Olympic team sprint champion Katy Marchant also announced her retirement last month.

They do, however, boast a strong team including eight riders who have won world titles and eight Olympic medallists.

Last month, it was revealed Jake, 38, had moved out of the marital home and now he has shown his followers a glimpse of his new property.

Standing in the kitchen near a set of double patio doors leading out into the garden, Jake said he wanted to “have a bit of colour.”

He added: “I didn’t want to go boring grey.”

To highlight his point, he showed off green, leather high stools that he had at one end of the kitchen around a table and in front of a large statement clock and funky gold lighting.

At the other end of the kitchen are white units with a gold Quooker tap over the sink which he was impressed with.

He said: “So yeah, this is the kitchen, I hope you like it, I love it.”

In the caption he added: “Kitchen reveal…. I forgot to mention some bits so any info you want just ask in comments.. seriously @quookeruk is a game changer and @babyeleganceire high chair is so cool.

“But yeah been here a week and I feel like I’ve really made it nice for me and the boys…. It’s been stressful and I’ve had ups and downs, esp falling down the stairs and putting a hole in the wall this morning, but this is home now.

“Thanks for being cool everyone have a nice weekend.“

When Jake first shared a post about his new home, he admitted fearing his two sons with Sophie – Leo, five and Kit, one – wouldn’t feel like it’s home when they come to stay.

He added: “I’m not good on my own, never have been but maybe that’s part of the journey to get comfortable alone for a while!

“It’s a strange feeling of excitement and anxiety, looking forward to making it my own but terrified to not be with the boys everyday.”

Craig Overton and Sophie Luff win Professional Cricketers’ Association awards

Somerset pair Craig Overton and Sophie Luff have won the top prizes at the Professional Cricketers’ Association awards.

Overton, the men’s player of the year, had a stellar season across formats as Somerset just missed out on a first County Championship title and reached the semi-finals of the T20 Blast.

Luff becomes the first winner of the women’s player of the year award not to have played international cricket since 2021. As well as superb form in county cricket, the 32-year-old was part of the Trent Rockets team that won The Hundred.

Pace bowler Sonny Baker and left-arm spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman won the two young player of the year awards.

All-rounder Overton, 32, scored three first-class hundreds and averaged less than 20 with the ball in the County Championship.

His form has led to talk of a recall to the England team to fill the vacancy left by Ben Stokes, four years after he won the last of his eight Test caps.

Overton beat off other shortlisted nominees Joe Clarke, George Hill and Dan Lawrence.

“It’s a phenomenal feeling,” said Overton. “To be chosen by your peers to win this award is very special, it means so much to me.

“I felt like I got in a groove where my body was in a good spot, not 100% because of the schedule, but mentally I felt like I was in a great spot to be able to go out and perform when games come along near enough every other day.”

Somerset captain Luff scored more than 1,000 runs across formats during the summer, including averaging in excess of 40 in the One-Day Cup.

Luff triumphed ahead of three internationals on the shortlist – Maia Bouchier, Sophia Dunkley and Mady Villiers.

“I’ve always been a leader that wants to lead from the front, but I think people are seeing that play out in games now,” said Luff. “I think this year I’ve just showcased what I’m capable of.

“I’ve had a new role at Somerset opening the batting and it’s safe to say it’s gone pretty well and I’ve probably unlocked something to bring the best out of me as a player. I’m so grateful to all my team-mates and coaches at Somerset that have supported me.”

Baker, 23, made his Test debut against New Zealand at The Oval in June. He was part of the Manchester Super Giants team that won The Hundred and the Hampshire side that reached the final of the T20 Blast.

Corteen-Coleman, 19, was a surprise inclusion in the England squad for the T20 World Cup.

Former England captain Heather Knight was given the Outstanding Contribution Award following her international retirement.

Another international retiree, Tammy Beaumont, won a Special Merit Award.

EastEnders’ Sophie Levy leaves soap in shock exit as cast say ’emotional’ goodbye

EastEnders star Sophie Levy, who plays Priya, has left the show in an unannounced exit that left fans gobsmacked, as the BBC show’s official X account showed the cast’s emotional goodbye

The EastEnders cast have said goodbye to one of their stars in a shock exit that was not announced to fans. Sophie Levy, who played Priya Nandra-Hart, has left the show.

In tonight’s episode, Priya decided to quit Walford, terrified that Max Branning (Jake Wood) would do something drastic if he found out that she was pregnant with his child. She packs her bags and is driven off in a cab headed for Leeds.

It has now been revealed by the EastEnders’ official X, formerly known as Twitter account that these were one of Sophie’s last scenes. They shared a video of Sophie being given a huge goodbye from the cast, who chanted, “We love you Sophie, we do!”

Executive producer Ben Wadey then said: “We have just wrapped Sophie’s last scene with us on EastEnders. Congratulations, Sophie! We want to say a massive thank you on behalf of everyone at EastEnders for an extraordinary few years. It’s a really hard thing to come in and put on the shoes of a new character in the show and instantly become an icon.

“You’ve led so many amazing stories, you’ve had brilliant, unlikely partnerships with people like Martin, with Ian, with Jean most recently. I’ve been enjoying you actually driving Max Branning to have a heart attack by stressing him out so much. You’ve been extraordinary; you’re a delight to work with. You’re going to be very, very missed.”

He added that Sophie, who is pregnant, was onto a “more important adventure” next. Sophie then said that the EastEnders crew were like “family” and that she loved being on the soap. Speaking directly to the camera, she added: “I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of the fans and the viewers of the show. I’ve been so proud and happy to be part of this family for three years. I can’t believe it’s been three years, it doesn’t feel that long but it also feels like it’s been forever!

“Thank you for having me. And let’s see. Watch this space, you knows if Priya will return.” Turning to the side to show off her baby bump, she signed off with: “See ya!”

EastEnders captioned the post with: “Sophie Levy Khan’s final day on EastEnders was an emotional one. From the moment she arrived, Priya has been an unforgettable character and leaves behind a Walford legacy to be proud of. We’re not crying, you are.”

Fans were shocked in the comments as they did not think Priya’s exit was permanent. “Wait she’s left for good?” one fan asked. Another said: “Shut the f*** up???? This can’t be Priya’s actual exit!”

A third added: “Wait a minute that was her actual last scene really I thought she would be gone for a bit and be back another great Eastenders character gone.”

Others said they thought she might return in time for Christmas, so that she could still be the pregnant woman in Max Branning’s bed at New Year. One said that it was “obvious” that Sophie would return: “She even says at the end of the video let’s see if priya will return ?? Do any of you even watch any of these videos before jumping on a bandwagon ! Its obviously just a temporary leave!”
