US tech giant says fundraising drive includes deal to sell $10 bn of stock to Berkshire Hathaway.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has announced plans to sell $80bn worth of shares to fund its rollout of artificial intelligence.
Alphabet said on Monday that the equity offerings would finance the rollout of AI infrastructure needed to meet “unprecedented customer demand”.

The US tech giant said the fundraising drive included a deal to sell $10bn of stock to Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate led for six decades by legendary investor Warren Buffett.
The remaining $70bn will come from $30bn in underwritten offerings – a type of share issuance where a financial institution buys stock to sell on to investors – and $40bn in staggered sales on the open market.
“The company is experiencing strong demand for its AI solutions and services from enterprises and consumers, at levels that are exceeding the company’s available supply,” Alphabet said in a statement.
“By scaling its investments, the company seeks to expand its foundational infrastructure to support the significant growth opportunity ahead.”
Shares of Alphabet, which has a market capitalisation of more than $4.5 trillion, were down about 1 percent in after-hours trading following the announcement.
Like other Silicon Valley giants, Alphabet, whose AI business spans the Gemini family of assistants, data centres and cloud services, has committed eye-watering sums to AI-related infrastructure.
The company said in its most recent earnings call that it expected its capital expenditures to reach $180-190bn this year, and rise “significantly” in 2027.
US tech behemoths, such as Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta, are expected to spend some $800bn on AI-related capital investment in 2026, according to an analysis by Goldman Sachs.
Troy Hooper, co-head of equity capital markets for the Americas at the financial intelligence provider Mergermarket, said Alphabet’s funding plans underscored the intensity of the race to lead the AI buildout.
“For hyperscalers, compute capacity is a direct driver of future revenue,” Hooper told Al Jazeera.
“By leaning into equity, Alphabet is bringing in permanent capital rather than burdening a balance sheet already absorbing record capex,” Hooper said, using the shorthand for capital expenditure.
Hooper said US tech giants have come to view underinvestment in AI as an “existential risk” and over-investment as “merely expensive”.
“The logic is simple: under-investing is an existential risk; over-investing is merely expensive. Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta are following the same calculus,” Hooper said.
“Ownership at scale lowers the marginal cost of training advanced models, building a moat smaller competitors will struggle to match. The message is clear: The winners of the AI era will be decided not just by algorithms, but by who owns the largest and most efficient compute platforms.”

DISGRACED reality TV star Stephen Bear has set up a market stall selling £2 smoothies with his pregnant teenage wife.
Bear, 36, was spotted on Sunday flogging fruit juice in Walthamstow, north-east London, with his Brazilian missus Miami, 19.

The former Ex on the Beach cast member was sentenced in March 2023 to 21 months in prison for uploading CCTV footage of himself having sex with ex-girlfriend Georgia Harrison, 31, to his OnlyFans account without consent.
An eyewitness who saw the Walthamstow-born sex offender, who won the 18th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2016, said: “I was walking past the market at about 1pm on Sunday and spotted him and recognised him from Ex on the Beach.
“He had set up one of those folding tables and someone stopped and asked him for a selfie.
“By the time I went back that way around an hour later they had gone.
“They were doing different flavours like strawberry and mango, putting the fruit in a nutribullet blender and selling them for just £2 in those plastic cups with the round lid on the top.
“It’s hard to think he’s even making a profit at that price, fruit is so expensive at the moment.”
Bear announced his intention to set up a stall in the market in a social media video posted three weeks ago.
But he said it would likely be after he makes his boxing debut on July 25. He is due to fight Andy “The Silencer” Lee at York Hall in Bethnal Green, east London.
In the clip posted to his TikTok on May 10, in which he can be seen being driven by his brother Rob, Bear said: “We’ve got some breaking news guys.
“Me and Rob’s decided we’re going to inquire and get a market stall down Walthamstow market.
“We’re thinking you don’t want to travel far to sell your bits and pieces, and if you never need to store anything, the house is, like, five minutes away from Walthamstow market.
“So send me a DM, what you think we should sell on our stall and then we’re going to inquire.

“Probably going to be after my boxing match, July 25, I’m going to get that out of the way first.”
After Rob suggested selling T-shirts or fruit and veg, Bear said: “I think if you’re holding fruit and veg, it’s going to go off, so we’re not going to do that.
“But we’re going sell something out of the ordinary.

Bear married then 18-year-old Miami in her native Brazil in July 2025, around 18 months after he was released from HMP Brixton.
The couple – who post X-rated content together – announced in March that they are expecting their first child.
Bear, who served 10 and a half months of his sentence, was ordered to pay his former Love Island and The Only Way is Essex star ex Georgia £207,900 in civil damages.
In March 2024, Georgia later said that she had received “not one penny” of it or the £212,515 she was owed for lawyers’ fees.
Bear was then ordered to pay HM Treasury the £22,305 he made in profits from subscribers after uploading the video and £5,000 in compensation to Georgia.
Malaysia has introduced new regulations preventing children under the age of 16 from registering accounts on social media platforms as part of a broader effort to improve online safety and protect minors from harmful digital content.
Under the new rules, major social media companies including Meta Platforms, TikTok, and Alphabet will be required to verify users’ ages using government issued records before allowing new account registrations.
The policy took effect on Monday and is being enforced by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. Companies that fail to comply could face fines of up to 10 million ringgit, equivalent to approximately 2.5 million dollars.
Authorities emphasized that the measure is not intended to block children from using the internet entirely, but rather to ensure greater responsibility among technology companies, parents, and guardians in protecting young users online.
How the New Rules Will Work
The new framework requires social media platforms to implement age verification systems that cross check user information against official government records.
While the restrictions immediately apply to new account registrations, existing users will also be subject to age verification measures during a six month implementation period.
The move places greater responsibility on technology companies to ensure that underage users are not able to bypass age requirements through inaccurate information during the registration process.
Growing Concerns Over Children’s Online Safety
Malaysia’s decision reflects increasing global concern about the impact of social media on children and teenagers.
Governments around the world have raised alarms over issues including exposure to harmful content, cyberbullying, online exploitation, misinformation, and the effects of excessive social media use on mental health.
Policymakers argue that stronger safeguards are needed as digital platforms become a central part of daily life for younger generations.
Malaysia’s Wider Crackdown on Online Content
The age restrictions are part of a broader effort by Malaysian authorities to regulate online platforms more aggressively.
Officials have reported a significant increase in harmful online content in recent years and have intensified monitoring of material that could inflame racial or religious tensions. Authorities have also targeted content viewed as insulting or critical of the country’s monarchy.
The government says social media companies must play a more active role in preventing harmful content from reaching vulnerable audiences.
Why It Matters
Malaysia’s decision places it among a growing group of countries seeking stricter regulation of social media platforms and greater protections for children online.
The policy could become a model for other governments considering similar measures, particularly as concerns over digital safety continue to grow worldwide. It also increases pressure on technology companies to develop more reliable age verification systems while balancing privacy concerns and user accessibility.
The move highlights the growing debate over who should bear responsibility for protecting children online, governments, technology firms, or parents.
Key Stakeholders
Children and Teenagers
Young users will face stricter age verification requirements before being allowed to create social media accounts.
Parents and Guardians
Families are expected to play a larger role in monitoring children’s online activities and ensuring compliance with age restrictions.
Social Media Companies
Major technology platforms must implement and maintain age verification systems while ensuring compliance with Malaysian regulations.
Malaysian Government
Authorities aim to reduce children’s exposure to harmful content and strengthen oversight of online platforms.
Digital Rights and Privacy Advocates
Advocacy groups will closely monitor how age verification systems are implemented and whether they affect privacy and data protection standards.
What Happens Next
Social media companies now have six months to complete age verification checks for existing users and fully integrate compliance systems for new registrations.
Regulators are expected to monitor implementation closely and may impose penalties on platforms that fail to meet requirements. The effectiveness of the policy will likely be assessed based on whether it reduces underage access and limits exposure to harmful content.
Other countries in the region may also watch Malaysia’s experience as they consider similar online safety measures.
Analysis
Malaysia’s new restrictions reflect a broader global shift toward stronger regulation of digital platforms, particularly where children are concerned. Governments are increasingly moving away from voluntary industry guidelines and toward legally enforceable requirements that place direct responsibility on technology companies.
The success of the policy will depend largely on the effectiveness of age verification systems. If implementation is weak, underage users may still find ways to access platforms. If verification measures are too strict, however, concerns about privacy, data security, and accessibility could emerge.
The regulation also signals a growing willingness among governments to intervene in how social media platforms operate. As concerns about online safety continue to rise, Malaysia’s approach may become an important test case for balancing child protection, digital rights, and platform accountability in the years ahead.

In Molly-Mae’s latest YouTube vlog she said it was likely going to be the “second to last” video she posts ahead of giving birth.
However, eagle-eyed viewers have spotted a major clue that hints that she’s already welcomed the baby into the world.
Discussing the theory on TikTok, a fan pondered: “You know what girls, I’ve just had this epiphany.
“Molly-Mae posts religiously every single Sunday night at 7pm.

“It’s now 9:45 and I’ve just gone onto her Instagram and she’s not posted which means…
“She’s in labour. You’ve heard it here first.”
Fans have also noticed from the location of Molly-Mae’s latest content that she’s been in London, which is where she’s openly said that she plans to have her baby.
Adding this theory into the TikTok thread, another user shared: “Also Zoe [her sister] said she is heading to somewhere for a couple of days which I believe is London where Molly is having her baby.”
A third fan chimed in with: “She’s been in London since Friday [and] her sister got there yesterday, but she has been online all day so she’s either in labour or [has] had the baby.”
Fans noticed a book called ‘Peppa’s new baby sister’ in the background of one of Molly-Mae’s vlogs, leaving viewers convinced that she’s having another girl.
Opening up recently about deciding not to share the gender, Molly-Mae confessed she’d been enjoying seeing her fans guess what she is having.
She said: “A baby is coming in a few weeks, so I really need to sort out my hospital bag…
“I thought I would just show you a couple of bits that I’ve started packing for me.
“Because everything for baby is quite gender obvious and we’ve kind of kept it to ourselves up till I’m basically giving birth so we might as well keep it until the end now.”
Molly continued: “It happened so accidentally. We’ve actually got a full-blown gender reveal video. We did a balloon with Bambi.
“I was planning to post it but we just never did. And then I don’t know, seeing everyone guess has just kind of been funny.”

She flaunted her glittering diamond ring and glam nail extensions for her clip, clearly eager to make some strong TikTok content.
The TV star told one of her online followers: “I know how pale I am, but you don’t understand how hard I work to get that colour”.
Noah can be heard in the background and he asked: “Who is that?” to which she replied: “I am making a video”.
Attempting to continue her clip, she said: “And the magazine made me look so pale”.

Noah then sat on the sofa and began to strum his guitar, prompting her to squeal: “I am trying to talk!”
She added: “Does anyone else get driven insane by a guitar?
“Go, sing!”
Noah then interjected: “Don’t delete it,” referring to the clip, and she retorted: “I’m not deleting it, I haven’t deleted it.
“Anyway I give up!
“Noah’s a great guitar player because I can’t talk,” before urging him to “sing then sing with confidence”.
Noah, mid flow, could then be heard in the background as he said: “Whose ringing my phone this time of day oh my God,” during an interruption to his performance.
Fans were quick to comment on the light-hearted lovers’ tiff.
One wrote: “Stop they obviously adore each other”.
A second posted: “You two are so cute he adores and loves you and ya picked a go one x” as a third joked: “Welcome to married life”.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Olivia, 35, shared a series of images with a caption that read: “Staying out of trouble,” complete with two angel emojis.
The first photo within the dump saw Olivia beaming while getting her hair and makeup done.
Looking more downcast in the next photo, Olivia pouted and didn’t look very impressed.
The images that followed were of her dogs, with another snap being of her taking a selfie in an elevator.

More hair and makeup snaps followed, with another photo of her dog also thrilling fans.
The former Love Island star also showed off some impressive designer items within the slew of snaps.
Liv showed off a Birkin bag by Hermes, as well as a beautiful pink Chanel bag.
The 16th offering from the photo dump saw Liv snap a mirror selfie where her eyes appeared puffy and again, she pouted and looked downcast.
But despite some people alarmed by the lack of Pete appearing in the post, others spotted a sign that all might be well between the pair.
One person seemed to spot Pete’s dog in one of the snaps.
“Yay to Rodney. Was hoping to spot some subtle Pete hints and also wondered if the dogs are mates with eachother! (So invested),” one person penned.
While another added: “Yes Rodney!!!!!!!”
And a third penned: “Hard launching Rodney!”
“Stitch, Lola & Rodney,” penned another, spelling out how Olivia’s pups Stitch and Lola, were now pally with Pete’s dog Rodney.
Olivia split from husband Bradley back in January following a “breach of trust” on his part.
She then moved out of the marital home and into her own apartment in London, and has since been romantically linked to pal and radio co-host Pete.
The pair added fuel to the fire… literally, by sharing near-identical snaps from near-identical getaways.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday night, Olivia shared a photo dump of a very plush stay at Estelle Manor – the same place Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton headed on a secret date weekend.
Among the photos Liv shared were snaps of her rescue dogs, stunning selfies, gym workout pics, and a close up snap of a rustic fireplace.
Fans were quick to spot how not long before Liv’s dump, Pete had shared a slew of snaps himself, with one of the photos being of the exact same fireplace.
Fans rushed to the comments section to speculate that Olivia and Pete had spent time together at the stunning manor house.
“I love the subtle you & Pete posting pics of the same fire. I love you two xxx,” penned one person.
The talked-about pair reportedly begun their relationship at the Brit Awards on February 28.
A source close to the pair told us at the time that they were “dating and enjoying their time together.”
Their apparent romance heated up last month as they jetted off to St Tropez for a cosy holiday.

Then in January, Lily confirmed: “I’m doing a remix version of the album, where different female artists are responsible for each of the songs.”
Getting Jade on board is certainly a strong start.

PERRIE EDWARDS has ruled out Jesy Nelson ever returning to Little Mix – but said she is raring to go with a reunion as a three-piece .
Jesy quit the group in 2020 and then cut off all contact.
She has since spoken to the girls again, but Perrie said that a future comeback would only involve her, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
Asked whether there will be a reunion, she told Attitude: “Oh, 100 per cent. I’m ready and raring.
“We always message each other and are bantering like, ‘So how long until we do a reunion? Are we going to do one? Where is it?’.
“I’m like, just give me a ballpark time. Do you know what I mean? Just let me know when.”
And pushed on whether it would be as a three or a four, she added: “A three. Definitely a three.”
For now though, Perrie – who is engaged to Celtic and former Arsenal footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – is still a solo artist and will release new single Passenger Princess on Friday.
On what the latest song is about, she said: “I love being independent, I love having my own s**t, I love doing everything for myself, being strong and a powerful woman.
“But you know, sometimes I can’t be f**ed.
“Sometimes I just want to do nothing and be like, ‘Alex, can you just help me, look after me?’, you know?”

In her lengthy story post, Alana said: “Last night I received a DM from someone very well connected to the ongoing Lee Andrews situation.
“The message contained subtle undertones that I interpreted as threatening, implying that if Lee Andrews were to harm himself, somehow that responsibility would fall on me.
“There were also suggestions that I should stop speaking out, delete things from my phone, and stay quiet because this is now ‘a police matter.’
“So let me respond publicly. If everything that has been exposed about my personal life helps even one woman recognise red flags, leave an unhealthy situation, or avoid ending up in one like I did, then every bit of stress, scrutiny, and intrusion into my life will have been worth it.”
Katie has continued to go forward with the theory that Lee has been kidnapped in Dubai, hence why he hasn’t been able to return to the UK.
During their time dating, Alana has claimed Lee conned her in a number of ways.
Leeconnected with Alana on Facebookin March last year and she explained how he “love bombed” her with cash transfers, Louis Vuitton bags and Cartier jewellery.

Love Island’s Ty Isherwood has revealed he has had a hair transplantCredit: Instagram / tyishi98The reality star revealed that his hairline had bee receding for several years, admitting he masked it with his fringe but often felt insecure over the lossCredit: Shutterstock Editorial
Filming himself the day after undergoing the procedure, Ty admitted that despite covering it well, hair loss is something that has impacted his confidence for years.
Dressed in a grey hoodie and bandaged up, Ty told the camera: “For me, this has been something that has played in the back of my mind for a long time now.
“I’ve managed to keep it under wraps pretty well, I’ve always had a fringe since I was younger and It has always hidden it.
“I noticed it started slowly receding when I was about 19/20 and it has slowly gone back ever since.”
Detailing the procedure, Ty said it was painless, but is left with some swellingCredit: Instagram / tyishi98His girlfriend, Angel, was on hand to provide moral support as she drove him to the clinic for the transplantThe couple have been going strong since meeting on the show last yearCredit: InstagramAngel said she was ‘so proud’ of Ty for opening up about his confidence struggles due to his hairCredit: tyishi98/Instagram
But in search of a long term solution, he opted to undergo the transplant for his hairline.
Admitting it all went fairly smooth, Ty continued: “The transplant itself took about 6 and a half hours, it was completely pain free.
“The only thing I didn’t like was the local anesthetic in the donor at the back. I’m not gonna sugarcoat that, it wasn’t very nice. But, once you’re over that, the rest of it was fine.
“For men, I think that losing your hair is a tough pill to swallow. For me, it was, I think it has affected my confidence for a couple of years. I’ve not been able to go about my day without actually thinking what my hair looks like.”
Urging his male followers to take the plunge if they are considering a transplant, Ty then said: “I wish I’d had it done sooner, I think it’d have put my mind at ease. I just feel so much more relieved now it’s done.”
Posting the clip to his 159K followers, Ty thanked Manchester-based clinic KSL for carrying out the transplant on him.
His girlfriend and Love Island co-star Angel took to the comment section to show her support as she wrote: “Proud of you my handsome boy”.
Other show alumni such as Wil Anderson, Giorgio Russo and Harry Cooksley also supported Ty in the comments.
Angel went along with Ty for the procedure, with the reality star revealing the couple were up at 6AM to drive to the clinic together.
Watchdog instructs social media giant to strengthen moderation following circulation of ‘grossly offensive’ content.
Published On 22 May 202622 May 2026
Malaysia’s internet watchdog has ordered TikTok to take action against “offensive and defamatory” content about the country’s monarchy.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said on Thursday that it had instructed the video-sharing platform to take “immediate remedial measures” in response to an account purporting to be linked to King Sultan Ibrahim.

The MCMC said its order requires the social media company to strengthen its moderation policies and provide a “formal explanation” for its failure to block the “grossly offensive, false, menacing and insulting” content, including AI-generated videos and manipulated images.
The regulator said it takes a “serious view” of online platforms being used to disseminate content that is false or “detrimental to public order”, particularly as it relates to the monarchy.
It added that it issued the order after finding TikTok’s response to previous notifications to be “unsatisfactory”.
TikTok, founded by Chinese tech company ByteDance, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“MCMC will continue to take firm and proportionate action where necessary to ensure digital platforms operating in Malaysia uphold their responsibilities in maintaining a safe, secure and respectful online environment,” the watchdog said in a statement.
Malaysia, a constitutional monarchy, penalises speech deemed to inspire “hatred or contempt” against the royal family under a sedition law passed in 1948.
The watchdog’s order against TikTok is the latest move by authorities in the Southeast Asian country to regulate social media platforms.
In January, the MCMC briefly blocked access to the AI assistant Grok amid a global backlash over its use to create sexually explicit images of people without their consent.
Malaysia’s government is also currently preparing to enforce legislation passed last year to prohibit social media use by under-16s, following similar moves by countries including Australia, Indonesia and France.

And lastmonth, Pete and ITV star Olivia flew to St Tropez on a secret holiday after they were spotted publicly snogging in a Soho bar.
The pair have now added fuel to the fire… literally, by sharing near-identical snaps from near-identical getaways.

“Interesting why you would lie on your stories about being there by yourself when it looks like the same fireplace on pete’s post,” added a second.
“@p_wicks01has@olivia_attwoodstolen your dog and your pad and pen??” asked a third.
“We need more @p_wicks01 content on here @olivia_attwood . I live and breathe for this shit on the daily! please give the people what they want,” pleaded a fourth.
“Ahhh Estelle Manor!!! What a place,” offered a fifth, while a sixth said: “If it’s good enough for Kim & Lewis….”
Meanwhile, on Pete’s post, one person wrote: “Waiting for your and livs pictures together………”
The talked-about pair reportedly begun their relationship at the Brit Awards on February 28.
A source close to the pair told us at the time that they were “dating and enjoying their time together.”
Their apparent romance heated up last month as they jetted off to St Tropez for a cosy holiday.
In a blink and you’ll miss it moment from one of Liv’s vlogs, Pete could be seen in the reflection in a mirror, smiling as Olivia celebrated her big day with her nearest and dearest.
She split from husband Bradley Dack back in January following a “breach of trust” on his part.
Olivia moved out of the marital home and into her own apartment in London.

The fear of renewed US strikes in Iran looms while Israeli attacks continue in Lebanon despite extended ‘ceasefire’.
Published On 18 May 202618 May 2026
United States President Donald Trump has warned Iran that the “clock is ticking” to clinch a deal to end the war as reports have emerged that Washington and Israel might be planning to carry out air strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.
“For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!”
Iranian Ministry of Defence spokesperson Reza Talaei-Nik said on Sunday that the military is “fully prepared” to confront any new aggression from the US and Israel.
Saudi Arabia on Monday said it intercepted three drones, a day after a drone strike hit the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile, Israel has continued its bombardment of Lebanon despite another “ceasefire” extension.
As the US-Israeli war on Iran continues for its 80th day, here is what we know:
In Iran
Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Tehran’s Expediency Council and former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander, issued a warning to the US to lift its blockade of Iranian ports, saying the Iranian military is ready for further confrontation. Rezaei made this warning while speaking to state television.
Talaei-Nik said the Iranian armed forces are “fully prepared to confront any new potential attack by the US and the Israeli regime against the country”.
War diplomacy
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s envoy to international organisations in Vienna, suggested in an X post that Iran appoint a special envoy to Moscow, similar to Tehran’s arrangement with China.
In an X post, Jean-Luc Melenchon, the leading figure of France’s left-wing La France Insoumise party, condemned “European complicity” in the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which have triggered a wider regional war.
In the Gulf
The New York Times reported that the Israeli military has operated two “covert” outposts in Iraq’s western desert and killed a shepherd and a soldier in a bid to hide one of the sites near the town of al-Nukhaib.
After the drone attack on the nuclear facility caused a fire, the UAE Ministry of Defence said two other drones had been “successfully” dealt with after they were launched from the “western border”. It did not elaborate.
The drone that got through the UAE’s defences hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said. Radiological safety levels were unaffected, and there were no injuries, it said. The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation later confirmed that the plant remained safe with no radioactive material released from the strike.
Saudi Arabia said the three drones it intercepted entered from Iraqi airspace and warned that it would take the necessary operational measures to respond to any attempt to violate its sovereignty and security.
In the US
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former US congresswoman and a once-close ally of Trump, has warned in a post on X that any attempt to send US troops into Iran would trigger what she described as a “political revolution”.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, speaking to the NBC broadcaster, urged Trump to “hurt” Iran, including launching attacks on its energy sites, until it agrees to US terms on its nuclear programme. The US and Israel have hit civilian targets multiple times during the war on Iran. Attacks on civilian facilities are considered war crimes under international law.
In Israel
Israel’s Channel 13 reported that dozens of US cargo planes carrying ammunition from bases in Germany have landed in Tel Aviv.
Israeli media reported that the military is preparing for renewed hostilities with Iran. The public broadcaster Kan quoted an unnamed security official as saying that Israel would join any new US strikes and target Iranian energy infrastructure.
In Lebanon
Israeli strikes have continued in southern Lebanon, where Israel issued evacuation orders for four towns and villages and then struck two of those locations.
Strikes were also reported in Az-Zrariyah on a moving vehicle while another raid in Tayr Debba resulted in some significant casualty numbers, Al Jazeera’s Obaida Hitto reported from Tyre, Lebanon.
Global markets
Stalled peace efforts between Iran and the US caused oil prices to rise again on Monday. This pushed the price of the global benchmark Brent crude up to about $111 per barrel, close to its highest level in weeks.

Bill Cassidy is among seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Published On 17 May 202617 May 2026
US Senator Bill Cassidy has lost his Louisiana Republican primary after years of criticism from supporters of Donald Trump over his vote to convict the United States president during his 2021 impeachment trial linked to the January 6 Capitol attack that year.
Cassidy failed to secure enough support in the southern state on Saturday to advance to a run-off, finishing behind Representative Julia Letlow and State Treasurer John Fleming. The two will face each other in a second round of voting on June 27.

The result underlines Trump’s continued influence over the Republican Party as he targets politicians seen as disloyal, even as he faces growing political pressure over inflation, falling approval ratings and criticism of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
Cassidy was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump after the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters who sought to overturn Trump’s 2020 election loss. While several Republicans who broke with Trump chose not to seek re-election, Cassidy campaigned aggressively for a third six-year term and heavily outspent his rivals.
On the morning of the vote, Trump attacked Cassidy on social media, calling him “a disloyal disaster” and “a terrible guy”. Speaking after his defeat, Cassidy appeared to respond indirectly to Trump’s remarks. “Insults only bother me if they come from somebody of character and integrity,” he told supporters.
He added: “Our country is not about one individual. It is about the welfare of all Americans, and it is about the constitution.”
Letlow, meanwhile, embraced Trump’s backing during her victory speech. “I want to say thank you to a very special man, … the best president this country has ever had, President Donald Trump,” she said.
She later described Cassidy’s impeachment vote as evidence that he had “turned his back on Louisiana voters”. Trump celebrated Cassidy’s loss online, writing: “That’s what you get by voting to impeach an innocent man.”
The Louisiana race is the latest in a series of contests in which Trump has backed efforts to remove Republicans who opposed him. Earlier this month, several Indiana state senators were also defeated after they had rejected Trump’s redistricting plan aimed at winning more seats in the US Congress for Republicans.
Saturday’s elections also took place amid confusion after a recent US Supreme Court ruling weakening part of the Voting Rights Act related to electoral district maps.
While the Senate primary went ahead as planned, Louisiana officials postponed primary elections for the US House of Representatives to redraw district boundaries. Civil rights groups challenged the delay, arguing it violates both the US Constitution and the Louisiana Constitution.

“Of course, everyone is going to flag up. Even I’ve flagged it up to him.
“Big time I’ve flagged it up now. I said, ‘Don’t do that to me again. Me having to go on live TV without you and make me look stupid and a d***.
