Downstairs, walls are adorned with local modern art, plus there’s a balmy sun terrace and the Almendra Boutique shop, stocked with whimsical Ibizan trinkets.  

We catch the sunset at the hotel’s rooftop Up And Down eatery, and sip Montenovo, a crisp, vibrant white wine, £35 a bottle, while gazing at Ibiza Castle across the bay, as we tuck into fresh seabass and prawns in a rich coconut, oyster and lime sauce, £30. 

Lunch is equally tempting, with indulgent sandwiches loaded with Iberian ham, Mahón cheese and truffle, £24, soaking up our rosé sangria, £7 a glass, before we plunge back into the rooftop pool. 

Mornings here are slow and relaxed – breakfast is served until noon and boasts local meats, Spanish cheeses and warm, freshly baked cookies. 

We stroll along Talamanca’s sandy boardwalk ogling the yachts, and stop by B London Boutique to browse the colourful rails of swimsuits, wraps and shades (Blondonboutique.com), before setting up camp on the golden beach.

Seek out Hyde Ibiza. . . For a cool pool scene,

Perched in the hills of Cala Llonga, 15 minutes further along the Isle’s east coast, is boho-chic Hyde Ibiza.  

Head to its main pool, Hyde Beach, for an excellent playlist and cabanas, from £131 a day, to live it up – the fee is redeemable on food and drink.  

At beachside eatery Sonrojo, we order seafood paella, £30, and sangria, £35 a jug.  

Later, we catch the sunset on the terrace of Japanese restaurant Niko, feasting on umami-rich tuna and truffle maki, £24, and miso-glazed black cod, £37.  

Hyde is just steps from the public ferry to Ibiza Town, Santa Eulalia and Leonardo DiCaprio’s fave nearby island, Formentera.  

It’s also just 20 minutes from UNVRS, where we catch David Guetta (Unvrs.com), Ushuaïa, where Calvin Harris performs alfresco (Theushuaiaexperience.com), and Hï Ibiza, with its Wild Corner complete with a DJ booth inside the unisex loos (Hiibiza.com).

Many of us love to stay somewhere a little out of the ordinary when heading off on holiday or a short break, and one Airbnb is certainly delivering on that front. The Idaho Flower Pot is a charming, 24-foot tall Airbnb built in the shape of an enormous terra cotta flower pot. Nestled just south of Burley, Idaho, in the US, this eccentric getaway scooped Airbnb’s $100,000 (£74,000) “OMG! Fund” and sits on a working flower farm.

Inside, guests are treated to a 436-square-foot multi-storey space featuring tapered walls and a spiral staircase, with a queen-sized memory foam mattress in the loft and a pull-out sofa on the ground floor, sleeping between two and four people.

The bathroom boasts a lavish rainfall shower and a heated mosaic floor, while the kitchenette is kitted out with a two-burner induction hob and a compact fridge.

The décor features a striking “root” chandelier, bird lights, and a vintage record player.

Guests can also unwind on the rooftop patio, which offers a terrace at the top of the “pot” complete with loungers perfect for stargazing and sweeping views of the surrounding Albion Mountains.

There’s also a four-person hot tub and a flower-shaped fireplace to enjoy.

Travel influencer Anissa, known as @herjoliejourney on Instagram, shared her stay at the Idaho Flower Pot with her 64,500 followers on the platform.

Dubbing it “the most unique Airbnb in Idaho”, she added: “I’ve stayed in a lot of unique Airbnbs over the years, but nothing compares to sleeping inside a giant flower pot.

“We loved every minute of our stay and would absolutely come back again.”

Anissa posted footage from her visit, including stepping through the flower pot door, relaxing on the rooftop terrace, and shots of the bedroom and kitchen.

Followers adored the post, with it becoming viral and amassing more than 32,000 likes.

One person declared: “This is so cute,” while another commented: “Omg this is incredible! The attention to detail.”

A third remarked: “Well this is something I never thought I’d see, I love it!”

The Airbnb is approximately a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Salt Lake City and 45 minutes from Twin Falls.

Prices generally begin around $200 (£148) per night.

It’s worth noting that the rooftop patio and outdoor fire pit are accessible late spring through late autumn but may be shut in winter owing to snow.

AN ABANDONED department store’s roof is being turned into a huge new attraction – after success in two other UK cities.

Freight Island will open at the abandoned Debenhams in Eldon Square Shopping Centre in Newcastle in June.

Costing £16million, the “island above the city centre” is set to become the largest food, drink, and entertainment venue in a UK city centre.

The venue itself will be on the top floor of the empty Debenhams store and span 5,574-square-metres.

Inside, the main hub called The Plant Room will boast communal areas for guests to dine under a retractable roof.

The Plant Room will feature 12 street food-style restaurants with specific brands including Meat: Stack, I Scream for Pizza, Miso, V.Goode Pies, Fab Bakery, Churros Kingdom, Fuku and Pita.

When it comes to grabbing a drink, there will be four bars including a specialist Aperitivo cocktail bar with cocktails on tap and Two by Two Brewing beers.

For music lovers, there will also be a 1,200 person venue called the Music Box, where touring acts, theatre shows, festivals and DJ sets will take place.

Reportedly, there will even be raves for kids, as well as multiple screens showing live sporting events.

The venue will be inspired by New York‘s Coney Island and Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens.

When the new destination was announced last year, Co-founder and Managing Director of Freight Island, Dan Morris, said: “This venue has been designed with scale, prominence, and long-term investment in mind.

“We hope to replicate the huge success of Freight Island in Manchester, where it has already contributed over £30million to the local economy.

“This incredible venue in the heart of a very special city offers a truly exciting opportunity to create a cultural space that could become a focal point of Newcastle for years to come.”

Freight Island is already open in Manchester and, back in January, announced that it is opening a new site in the Trinity Leeds shopping centre.

Similar to the Newcastle venue, there will be street food-style stalls, bars and live entertainment.

There will also be an outdoor terrace looking over City Square.

Construction of the Leeds site is set to start in late spring.

And next month, Freight Island will open a venue in Brixton, south west London.

The rooftop destination will be able to host around 1,000 people and officially opens on May 7.

It is expected to be the capital’s largest rooftop venue with chef residencies, cocktail bars, live music, DJ sets, food festivals and major sports screenings, amongst other events.

For the upcoming World Cup, the rooftop will even have a dedicated World Cup Fanzone with screenings of the matches.

Other upcoming events include Reggae Brunch and Maggi Brunch.

There will be family-friendly daytime sessions in the summer too.

Similar to the Newcastle venue, Freight Island Brixton will have a number of speciality bars including the Casamigos ‘House of Friends’ and Hotel Milano – themed around much-loved Italian aperitivos.

Freight Island already has a destination in Manchester, located near Piccadilly Station.

It was the brand’s first venue, opening its doors back in July 2020.

In other attraction news, one of the UK’s most popular seaside towns is getting a huge new £3million indoor attraction this summer.

Plus, there’s a new £379million attraction dedicated to chocolate opening in Europe with rides and hotels.

CITY breaks are a perfect short-haul holiday option for Brits, and in some cases even top-tier ones won’t break the bank.

TravelSupermarket found that the average price for a five-star break to Lisbon works out at £308pp.

On TravelSupermarket Sun Travel found some five-star accommodation deals for under £200.

A two-night city break at the VIP Grand Lisboa Hotel & Spa in March starts from £180pp – including flights.

The hotel has a rooftop pool, bar, restaurant, room service, free Wi-Fi, a fitness centre and spa facilities.

Another is The Vintage Lisboa where you can book a two-night city break in March from £269pp.

The boutique hotel is in the heart of the city and has modern interiors as well as a restaurant and bar.

Each room has a flatscreen TV, air conditioning and private bathroom with rain head shower.

It has a spa with a full menu of massages, as well as a sauna, steam bath, hammam and a gym.

The city itself is known for its steep streets, trams and its position on the coastline.

British expat Lauren Clark, who left her life in London for Lisbon reveals it’s an affordable city once you’re there too.

She even said that you can catch up with a friend over a glass of wine for the price of a coffee in the UK.

Lauren explained: “You can pick up a fruity ‘vinho verde’ from a quiosque or restaurant terrace, enjoyed in the sunshine, might set you back just a few euros.

“One of the reasons why the top-notch wine is so affordable – with a bottle of my favourite white costing around three euros in the supermarket – is because Portugal is covered in swathes of vineyards.”

Vinho verde translates to ‘green wine‘, but it’s not actually anything to do with colour.

What is actually refers to is the young age of the grapes.

When it comes to choosing where to drink – you can get views of the city if you go up high onto a rooftop bar.

One trendy place is Park Bar which is at the very top of a parking garage.

Here you can pick up a selection of beers and wines, sangria and some bar snacks – and on Sundays it serves up all-day brunch.

Another is Topo Chiado which has view downtown that one visitor described as ‘breathtaking’, and it has a DJ during the evenings.

While Lisbon is easily walkable it also has lots of trams – it has six different routes and 58 trams.

Lisbon tram tickets usually cost between €3.10 (£2.70) and €3.30 (£2.87) if you buy it onboard.

You can save money in Lisbon by getting a Lisboa card too, which you can buy from £27 and it then gives you access to 51 museums and galleries across the city.

Lisbon doesn’t have many main beaches for sunbathing as such – but just a short-ride away are some lovely coastal spots.

Two popular beaches are Praia da Ursa and Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo which are both less than an hour’s drive away from the city centre.

For Brits, Lisbon is easy to get to with direct flights taking just two hours and 50 minutes.

In April, flights from London Luton to Lisbon start from £21.

Eight airports across the UK offer direct flights including London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham.

When it comes to other city break destinations, cheap five-star holidays include destinations like Krakow and Prague.

Berlin rounds out the top three at £357 per person on average.
