“My anxiety levels are sky high.
“I just don’t know what to say.
“If there is anyone in Dubai or you know anyone in Dubai and you spot him – cause I don’t know where he is.
“Cause the last thing I know his hands are tired. He had a hood over his head, not fully over and he was in the back of a van.
“And that’s all I know.
“The police can’t find him anywhere where he’s been detained.
“No phone calls have been made. So I don’t know where he is.”
Clearly worried, Katie added: “I just want to know someone helped find him.
” I don’t know where he is. I don’t know what’s happened to him. And it’s been five days.
“I’m a survivor, but I’ve never been in a situation like this.
“I don’t think many people have been in a situation like this where all of a sudden the last message you get, FaceTime from your husband in the back of a van, a dirty old van.
“The thoughts in my mind was just his face on that FaceTime and then he’s gone.”
The star concluded her lengthy video statement by saying: “We need to find him.
“And that’s all I can say, just please help find him.
“Then when we find him, I’m sure there’ll be an explanation or something where we know exactly what’s gone on until then – he’s been silent for five days, gone off grid for five days.
“That’s not normal for anyone.
“I know there’s all this stuff online that he’s a con man, he’s a scammer, but I just want to say to everyone, I want to find him.
“So just keep your eyes open. And I’m really upset and distressed that everyone thinks I’m in on this.”
KATIE Price has revealed the real reason she is refusing to go back to Dubai – and it has nothing to do with her marriage to Lee Andrews.
The mum-of-five landed back in the UK last week after spending some more time with the self-proclaimed billionaire businessman at his home in the UAE.

But now she has revealed she has no plans to return to Dubai – especially after hubby Lee confirmed he would be coming to the UK but failed to show up.
Now, amid a mystery relating to his current whereabouts, with Katie yesterday confirming she had not heard from him in three days and suggested he’d been kidnapped after he claimed to be in the back of a van with his hands tied up, she has revealed the real reason she would not return to Dubai.
And despite her looming marital woes, the answer is all connection to Katie’s work.
She revealed she wants to remain in the UK in order to produce content for her OnlyFans page and safely distribute it and engage with her followers on the platform.
Katie wants to continue to work on OnlyFans – something banned in the strict nation of the UAECredit: GettyShe has only spent time with Lee in the Middle EastCredit: wesleeeandrews/instagram
Posting on the adults-only site is believed to be Katie’s primary source of income – after years of being belaguered with money problems.
Speaking in a YouTube video, Katie said: “I am glad to be back [in the UK].
“When I am out there, I cannot do my OnlyFans.
“I can’t do it when I am in the country there, so I can only do it here.”
She also further revealed how she was also able to produce better quality YouTube content in the UK with her cameraman Ben who does not accompany her to Dubai.
Her YouTube channel is also understood to net Katie a decent sum.
As a result of laws in the United Arab Emeriates, Katie is banned from using OnlyFans.
Whilst the website itself isn’t explicitly banned per se, it can likely only be accessed via a VPN,
Furthermore, in the UAE, the creation, distribution, and promotion of adult content is forbidden by law as a result of the country’s strict policies.
Anyone found to be creating adult content in the country and distributing it can face punishments of lengthy prison stints or a whopping fine of around £102,000.
Despite this, Lee set up his own OnlyFans content and teased raunchy content on the site – despite already claiming to have billions in the back and the laws regarding the matter in the Middle East country.
Katie has had a turbulent weekend after she admitted she had failed to be in touch with Lee for a number of days.
The star insisted he is a “missing person” now and revealed the last time she spoke to him, he had “ties around his hand and was in a van” with a “hood over his head”.
Katie said: “I don’t know where to really begin, but I know there is all this speculation about Lee when I met him but something really serious has happened.
Dogecoin is trading near $0.116 in May 2026, with a market cap of around $17.9 billion and a 24-hour volume of over $2.37 billion.
The latest Dogecoin price prediction data shows room for a move toward the $0.13 to $0.25 range in 2026, but DOGE still needs stronger meme coin demand before a larger rally becomes realistic.
For traders looking beyond older meme coins, Meme Punch and Poly Truth add two newer presale stories through P2E gaming and prediction market data.
This article breaks down DOGE’s 2026 outlook, the main rally drivers, and how $MEPU and $PTRUE compare with Dogecoin’s meme coin setup.
How Dogecoin Is Performing in May 2026
Dogecoin still has one of the strongest brands in crypto. It ranks inside the top 10 by market value, and CoinGecko shows DOGE up 22.2% over 30 days, which keeps it active on trader watchlists.
Daily volume also supports the short-term case. DOGE’s 24-hour trading volume was about $2.37 billion, which shows a recent rise in market activity and gives traders enough liquidity for short-term moves.
However, DOGE is no longer a small coin. A market cap near $18 billion means each major price move needs real buying pressure, not only social media noise.
Dogecoin Price Prediction for 2026
CoinCodex gives DOGE a short-term target of $0.1302 for one month and $0.1491 for three months. Its near-term table also shows a 5-day target around $0.1142, which keeps DOGE close to its current range before any stronger move develops.
Changelly gives a wider full-year 2026 range. Its analysis places DOGE between $0.0957 and $0.142, with an average price near $0.119. For May 2026, Changelly estimates a range between $0.108 and $0.131, with an average near $0.120.
Binance’s prediction page takes a different approach because its figures are based on user input and shown on an “as is” basis. The page also states that the data does not represent Binance’s own view or advice, which makes it useful as crowd input rather than a firm forecast.
Can DOGE Stay a Top Meme Coin in 2026?
Dogecoin still has the main ingredients that keep meme coins alive. It has deep liquidity, wide exchange access, a long trading history, and a community that can bring quick attention during bullish periods.
The harder part is growth from here. DOGE already has a large market cap, so a 2x or 3x move requires much more capital than it would for a smaller meme coin or early-stage presale.
The $0.13 to $0.15 zone is the first area to watch because CoinCodex’s one-month and three-month targets sit near that range. A cleaner move above those levels would make the 2026 outlook stronger.
What Could Push Dogecoin Higher?
Dogecoin’s next rally needs more than past fame. DOGE can still move sharply, but only if volume, social demand, and wider market strength return together.
The strongest DOGE drivers are easy to track.
Bitcoin strength can bring traders back into higher-risk crypto.
Meme coin rotation can lift DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, and other large meme assets.
Higher daily volume can confirm that buyers are returning.
Social attention can turn DOGE into a retail-led trade again.
Clean breakouts above near-term resistance can make short-term targets more realistic.
If those signals line up, DOGE can stay one of the main meme coins to watch in 2026. Without them, the price may stay close to the current forecast range.
Why New Meme Coin Presales Are Getting More Attention
Dogecoin gives traders liquidity and recognition, but newer presales can move on smaller starting bases. They also have more room to shape a fresh story before wider market exposure.
Meme Punch and Poly Truth show two different directions for presale demand. Meme Punch builds around meme coin gaming, while Poly Truth focuses on prediction market intelligence.
Meme Punch ($MEPU)
Meme Punch turns meme coin culture into a medieval P2E battle arena. Players choose meme-inspired knights, fight rivals, climb the leaderboard, and earn $MEPU rewards.
The game loop is easy to scan.
Players choose from meme fighters such as Pepe, Doge, Floki, Brett, and Pudgy Penguin.
Arena battles decide leaderboard progress.
Winners earn $MEPU rewards.
$MEPU can be used for weapons, skins, and special powers.
Staking adds another token use inside the project.
$MEPU has a total supply of 10 billion tokens.
Presale: 40%
DEX/CEX liquidity: 12%
Marketing: 16.5%
Game rewards: 9.5%
Staking: 14.5%
Project funds: 7.5%
Poly Truth ($PTRUE)
Poly Truth gives the presale market a data-led angle through prediction market intelligence. The project uses AI-powered analysis to help users read active events across crypto, sports, politics, and other markets.
Its system has three parts.
The Runners collect data from active prediction events across the internet.
The Starlet compares sources, finds patterns, and calculates probability scores.
The Presenter turns the analysis into event reports that show which outcome has stronger data support.
$PTRUE has a total supply of 11.5 billion tokens.
Presale: 40%
Liquidity pool: 17%
Development: 13%
Team: 10%
Staking rewards: 10%
Marketing: 8%
Community and airdrops: 2%
DOGE vs. $MEPU and $PTRUE
Dogecoin is still the established meme coin in this group. It has the liquidity and name recognition that smaller tokens usually need years to build.
Meme Punch offers a more active meme coin angle because $MEPU is tied to gameplay, battle rewards, upgrades, and staking. Poly Truth moves away from meme culture and gives traders a presale tied to data, prediction markets, and event analysis.
The comparison is simple.
DOGE gives traders an established meme coin with deep liquidity.
$MEPU adds P2E gaming to meme coin demand.
$PTRUE adds prediction market data to the presale market.
DOGE may stay the safer meme coin benchmark because it already trades across major markets. $MEPU and $PTRUE offer earlier-stage exposure to newer stories that are still building attention.
Is DOGE Still One of the Best Meme Coins to Buy Now?
The Dogecoin price prediction for 2026 still supports a measured bullish case, but it does not point to an easy return to old highs.
CoinCodex’s one-month and three-month targets keep DOGE in the $0.13 to $0.15 area, while Changelly’s full-year range stays between $0.0957 and $0.142.
DOGE still has the liquidity, brand power, and community needed to lead another meme coin move. The stronger rally case needs rising volume, better market sentiment, and a broader meme coin rotation.
For traders comparing old and new meme coin stories, Dogecoin still holds the benchmark spot. Meme Punch brings a playable meme coin model through $MEPU, while Poly Truth adds a different presale route through $PTRUE and prediction market intelligence.

She reposted a picture of a Bratz doll blowing a kiss, with the caption: “Glad I’m the girl being talked about not the miserable one doing the talking.”
She said: “Due to all the madness of trolling, people’s speculation and media frenzy that as a married couple we have both decided @wesleeandrews is taking a break from social media.
“And we are keeping things between us for now as it’s our life and marriage and are very happy.”
She explained on her podcast The Katie Price Show: “I said to him, ‘If you don’t turn up to England this time, what’s the deal? Tell me what’s going on because I’m not flying out to Dubai now. I’ve got family, my kids and my job here’.”
Katie said: “If you can’t come to the UK and you are on a flight ban, it’s fine. Just tell me. Does it matter if you can’t fly out of Dubai for whatever reasons, whether it’s two years, three years or never, just tell me.
“I want answers. Just a bit of respect. Just tell me what’s going on.”
KATIE Price has dropped a huge hint that she’s already forgiven husband Lee Andrews after their recent public row sparked split speculation.
The former glamour model shared a gushing loved-up post on Instagram just hours after ditching her wedding ring in a new photo.

Katie Price had earlier shared a photo where she appeared to ditch the huge diamond wedding ring husband Lee Andrews gave her when they married earlier this year.
However, just hours later, Katie shared a post posing the hypothetical question: “What’s he like?” before responding with what appeared to be a gushing tribute to her husband, who was also tagged.
She wrote: “He’s like all the love I’ve ever poured out into the world finally found its way back to me, wrapped in human form.”

After claiming he missed the flight due to business commitments, Katie defended him, while Lee later shared a social media clip hitting back at claims he had been detained.
However, speaking on her Katie Price Show podcast with sister Sophie Price, Katie admitted: “I have said to him, ‘You’ve made me look like a d**k, you’ve made yourself look like a massive d**k.
“He hasn’t made it to the UK and I’ve said to him he needs to make it to the UK, because if he doesn’t, then there’s obviously something not right going on.”
She added: “And if he does make it to England, it will shut all the rumours up.”
There is ongoing speculation thatKatie‘s husband Lee, 43, is unable to leave the United Arab Emirates cityafter allegedly forging his ex-girlfriend Dina Taji’s signature to secure a £200,000 loan – something he’s strongly denied.

She then admitted to confronting Lee over the situation, and said: “It’s the fact you keep saying you’re coming and then don’t come.
“Of course, everyone is going to flag up. Even I’ve flagged it up to him.
“Big time I’ve flagged it up now. I said, ‘Don’t do that to me again. Me having to go on live TV without you and make me look stupid and a d***.
“No wonder everyone’s saying, ‘You’re this, you’re that’, because they’ve got a reason to say it. I agree with everyone.”

“So next week when we do the pod we’ll find out whether he’s come to England or not and we’ll see what he’s said.”
Lee has claimed he was going to fly into the country multiple times but is yet to show up.
With Lee still mooching about the UAE, Katie admitted today that she has started to question her husband.
She captioned a post on social media: “Time is running out for Lee and he needs to give a good reason as to why he can’t get back because I am not going back to Dubai.”
During her podcast, The Katie Price Show, she admitted to confronting Lee over the situation.

WASHINGTON — The Senate confirmed President Trump’s nominee to lead the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, bringing new leadership to the world’s most powerful central bank at a fraught moment for the global economy.
Warsh was confirmed Wednesday in a largely party-line vote. His nomination had been thrown into doubt in recent months after Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said he would block the nomination while the Justice Department investigated Fed Chair Jerome H. Powell. The Powell inquiry was dropped in April, clearing the way for the Senate to confirm Warsh.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) urged colleagues to support Warsh during a floor speech Wednesday morning, saying it’s crucial that a Fed chair “understand not only the macro” but also “appreciate the microeconomy: and that’s the hardworking Americans, their jobs and their livelihoods.”
“Kevin Warsh is just such a person,” Thune said.
Warsh, 56, a former top Fed official, will become chair at an unusually difficult time for the independent agency.
Inflation has topped the Fed’s 2% target for five years and is now rising faster because of surging gas prices. The Fed’s interest rate-setting committee is divided and saw the most dissenting votes in more than three decades last month. And Powell, after years of personal attacks from the Republican president and an unprecedented legal investigation by the Justice Department, plans to stay on the Fed’s board even after his term as chair ends, potentially creating a competing power center.
Trump has demanded change at the Federal Reserve
The Fed has faced numerous threats to its independence from Trump, who has repeatedly attacked Powell for not cutting interest rates. Trump also sought to fire Fed Gov. Lisa Cook and launched an investigation into brief Senate testimony by Powell on a building renovation.
Kevin Hassett, director of the White House’s National Economic Council, said in a Fox News interview on Sunday that he believes the markets are relieved that Warsh “is going to help lower interest rates over time.”
“Obviously, data driven,” said Hassett. “I’m not putting any pressure on Kevin Warsh.”
In December, Trump said on his social media platform that he wanted a Fed chair who would cut interest rates when the stock market rose — the opposite of what traditional economics would prescribe — and added, “Anyone that disagrees with me will never be the Fed chairman!”
Trump’s comments have fueled concerns over whether Warsh will set rates based on economic conditions or seek to cut rates to appease Trump, even if doing so could worsen inflation. At Warsh’s confirmation hearing last month, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat from Massachusetts, derided him as a “sock puppet” for Trump. Warsh declined to say that Democrat Joe Biden had won the 2020 election against Trump, who has falsely claimed that voter fraud cost him reelection.
Still, Warsh denied at the hearing that Trump had pressured him to reduce the Fed’s key rate.
“The president never once asked me to commit to any particular interest rate decision, period,” Warsh said then. “Nor would I ever agree to do so if he had. … I will be an independent actor if confirmed as chair of the Federal Reserve.”
A critic of the Fed’s leadership in the past
Warsh has been highly critical of the Fed’s recent track record, particularly the inflation spike in 2021-22, the worst in four decades, and has called for “regime change.” Yet he has provided only broad outlines of what that change would involve.
He has called for limiting the Fed’s communications, which would be a sharp shift after decades of increasing transparency. He has argued that some of its communications tools, such as quarterly forecasts of where its key rate may head, have made it harder for officials to switch gears.
Senate Democrats also have condemned Warsh for not fully divulging the details of his extensive wealth, which disclosures show amounts to at least $100 million. His investments include stakes in Polymarket and SpaceX, but he hasn’t revealed how large those holdings are. He promised to sell all such assets within 90 days of being sworn in.
“He will be the wealthiest Fed chair in history, but he refuses to provide transparency to the American people about who he is entangled with,” Warren said.
Warsh faces difficult economic conditions
The Fed is still grappling with how to respond to the 50% jump in gas prices from the Iran war. The increase has boosted inflation, which reached 3.8% in April.
The Fed is tasked by Congress with keeping prices stable, which it seeks to do by raising its short-term rate to make borrowing and spending more expensive, cooling growth and inflation.
The Fed typically looks past temporary price increases that stem from supply disruptions, such as the war’s cutoff of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, because those prices typically level off — or even fall back down — once the supply is restored.
But the Fed also followed that approach after the COVID-19 pandemic snarled global supply chains for goods, lifting prices for things such as cars, furniture and electronics. Inflation turned out to last longer than expected, and Powell and other Fed officials have acknowledged they waited too long to raise rates. Inflation surged to 9.1% by June 2022.
The Fed’s rate-setting committee has kept rates unchanged for three straight meetings as it evaluates the effect of the gas price spike. At its most recent meeting last month, three members of the committee objected to language that suggested its next move would be a rate cut. They preferred more neutral language that would allow for a hike. Many Fed watchers saw those dissents as a warning shot to Warsh that he won’t be able to easily engineer rate reductions.
A fourth member of the 12-member committee, Stephen Miran, dissented in favor of a rate cut, as he has at every meeting since Trump appointed him to the Fed’s board last September. Miran is serving until a replacement is named, and Warsh will take his spot.
Powell, meanwhile, said at a news conference April 29 that he would remain as a Fed governor until the Justice Department closes its investigation into the Fed’s building project, the first time a chair may stay on the board for an extended period since 1948. His term as a governor lasts until January 2028.
U.S. Atty. Jeanine Pirro has dropped the government’s investigation, but she has said it could be reopened if the Fed’s inspector general office, which has looked into the renovation project since last July, finds evidence of criminal activity.

FOR someone whose face never moves, Katie Price couldn’t hide her emotion yesterday as her husband Lee Andrews stood her up on live TV.
What was supposed to be the loved-up couple’s chance to quieten the naysayers turned Katie into a laughing stock as she desperately tried to explain Lee’s absence amid claims he had been detained in the UAE. We’re told the public humiliation was a step too far for those close to Katie, 47, but has it been enough for her to see the light?

An insider said: “It’s not nice to see Katie put on the spot like that. All she ever does is try to be the perfect wife, but she’s struggling with the constant uncertainty.
“Her inner circle are worried it’s going to take its toll on her. It’s put a lot of pressure on the other relationships in her life – like with her sister Sophie, who has been terrified about Lee’s intentions from the start.
“Katie has been through so much heartache in the past and been treated so badly by men, and they think she deserves more – or at least some transparency.
“It’s one thing Lee supposedly missed the flight, but the videos of him at the airport while he desperately insists he is still coming are a hard watch. There is a feeling that he needs to accept the game is up, and they are just worried about how Katie will react when she realises that something is amiss.”
The couple, who tied the knot in January, were due to appear on GMB yesterday. It was set to be their first joint telly interview and a chance for them to set the record straight.
But while Katie, who had been visiting Lee in Dubai, made it back to the UK, Lee was nowhere to be seen. What followed was a bizarre game of will-he, won’t he, while poor Katie was left struggling alone.
There is ongoing speculation that Lee, 43, is unable to leave the United Arab Emirates city after allegedly forging his ex-girlfriend Dina Taji’s signature to secure a £200,000 loan – something he’s strongly denied.
Presenters Susanna Reid and her co-host Ed Balls told how they had approached the Foreign Office to see if Lee had a travel ban.
They said they had been informed they had “supported a British man detained in the United Arab Emirates”.
When the pair quizzed Katie as to whether this was Lee, she said he had denied it in a voice note and added laughing emoji icons to his message.
Explaining the reason for his no-show, Katie, who wore a pink shirt and gold hoop earrings for her chat, said: “He just didn’t make the flight.
“He’s coming here to spend quite a few months now. He’s been sorting out my visa, my international driving licence.
“He’s flying from Muscat, and he had things to do; he didn’t make the flight, but he’s at the airport now”.
Lee reinforced her words as he took to his social media page from the departures lounge.
He praised Katie’s appearance on GMB and said: “Yes, I am at the airport and flying to my wife, who did very well on GMB today.
“And I am on my way to her. I had a couple of things that I had to do last-minute; I couldn’t make the show. I was hoping to get on there with the Zoom link, but they carried on with Kate, and she did really, really well”.
Katie appeared upset when she found out Lee wouldn’t be on GMBCredit: BackGridKatie and Lee’s marriage has been highly controversial and full of AI picturesCredit: wesleeeandrews/Instagram
Mum of three Susanna mused: “I wonder if he’s telling you everything, do you trust him?” to which Katie said, “Yes”.
He then asked if Lee was normally unreliable, and she replied: “Not with me”.
Our insider added: “Katie was desperate to keep painting a happy picture, but the cracks are starting to show. She will have been upset about the line of questioning about the man she loves. She is a hopeless romantic and wants to believe the best in Lee, even if no one else does.”
The interview was a disaster, and clips of Katie frantically trying to defend Lee quickly went viral, and Lee was heavily scrutinised. Some people claimed the video he shared wasn’t filmed where he said it was, while others felt sympathy towards her.

One person commented: “I actually feel a bit sorry for her.”
Another remarked: “This is so sad. The penny still has not dropped, even though GMB know its him that’s been detained as they would have had it confirmed. I hope Suzannah told her after the cameras stopped rolling.”
And as the day went on, it seemed less and less likely Lee would actually arrive, despite his insisting he was on his way.
There certainly seems to be some confusion with the couple’s timeline – over 12 hours before she was due on GMB, Katie posted on her social media – in a video which has now been deleted – to reveal Lee was joining her
She said on social media: “Where the hell is my husband? Lee will not be on Good Morning Britain with me!!”
She added: “Well, he is not coming, which is gutting really as he said he was coming, so I’m getting the house ready for me”.
And for the first time, the tide might be slightly turning for Katie, and in a surprise movie, she did lay down an ultimatum.
Katie said that although Lee “pays for” her flights to Dubai, she needs him to be more present in the UK.

On today’s GMB, presenters Susanna and her co-host Ed Balls told how they had approached the Foreign Office to see if Lee had a travel ban.
They said they had been informed they had “supported a British man detained in the United Arab Emirates”.
When the pair quizzed Katie as to whether this was Lee, she said he had denied it in a voice note and added laughing Emoji icons to his message.
Explaining the reason for his no-show Katie, who wore a pink shirt and gold hoop earrings for her chat, said: “He just didn’t make the flight.
“He’s coming here to spend quite a few months now.
He’s been sorting out my visa, my international driving licence.
“He’s flying from Muscat and he had things to do, he didn’t make the flight but he’s at the airport now”.
She then clarified: “Because of his business he had some things he had to do last minute.
“He is at airport now he is on his way”.
Lee reinforced her words as he took to his social media page from the departures lounge.
He praised Katie’s appearance on GMB and said: “Hello everyone.
“Yes I am at the airport and flying to my wife, who did very well on GMB today.
“And I am on my way to her.
“I had a couple of things that I had to do last minute, I couldn’t make the show, I was hoping to get on there with the ZOOM link but they carried on with Kate, and she did really really well”.
Mum of three Susanna mused: “I wonder if he’s telling you everything, do you trust him?” to which Katie said yes.
Ed then quizzed if “the Foreign Office were right and Lee was arrested ayt the airport?”
He then asked if Lee was normally unreliable, and she replied: “Not with me”.
It isn’t the first time Lee has reneged on his vow to travel to Katie’s home turf.

Though after the self-styled businessman failed to travel to the UK, GMB media posts advertising the segment were hurriedly removed from the programme’s social media accounts after ITV staffers were told Lee would be unable to reach the UK.
GMB anchor Susanna Reid then confirmed Katie would appear on-screen solo.
She told viewers during the live show: “Katie Price is back with us in the studio.

“He assured them he was flying over, even Katie believed him – then it was all cancelled.
“Lee is still in Dubai because he has a travel ban that stops him from leaving.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Appealing to voters’ anxieties about the soaring cost of living is central to Democrats’ messaging in their hopes of big wins in this year’s midterm elections. In Oregon, a question on the primary ballot is complicating that strategy.
The Democratic-controlled Legislature raised the state gas tax and a range of fees last fall as a way to pay for road improvements and plug a hole in the state’s transportation budget. Republicans responded with a petition to repeal the increases, leading to a referendum that will land before voters just as the Iran war is causing the price of gas to skyrocket around the United States.
“It is a hell of a time to be raising gas taxes on people,” said Jeanine Holly, filling up her tank on a recent morning in Portland.
The gas tax repeal on the state’s May 19 primary ballot comes amid widespread disruptions in the oil industry from the war with Iran started by Israel and President Trump. Discontent is high among U.S. consumers across the political spectrum, with the price of gas topping $4.50 a gallon nationally on Friday and averaging about 80 cents more per gallon in Oregon.
The referendum will give voters a chance to weigh in on a hot-button issue hitting them directly in the pocketbook at a time when prices remain elevated for everything from housing to groceries. Nationally, Democrats have focused on the affordability concerns similar to those that helped propel Trump to victory in 2024. Some of their candidates have even proposed ways to cut taxes as a way to promote their agenda and counter a traditional GOP strategy.
“It’s difficult to imagine a worse situation for … a gas tax increase than right now in American politics,” said Chris Koski, professor of political science and environmental studies at Portland’s Reed College.
Republicans sense an opportunity
Republicans wasted no time in appealing to voters after the Legislature and Democratic governor signed off on the tax increase, which also included a higher payroll tax for transit projects and a boost in vehicle registration and title fees.
They needed 78,000 voter signatures to qualify the referendum for the ballot. They quickly got 250,000.
“That is a remarkable number,” Republican strategist Rebecca Tweed said.
Republicans in Oregon have countered Democrats’ affordability messaging by portraying the tax and fee increases as further fueling the high cost of living.
“Do Oregonians want to pay more? The answer is no,” said GOP state Sen. Bruce Starr, who helped lead the referendum campaign. “Everything they’re looking at is expensive.”
Under the legislation, Oregon’s gas tax would rise from 40 cents to 46 cents a gallon. That would make it tied with Maryland for the eighth-highest gas tax of any state when factoring in other state taxes and fees, according to figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
At the Portland gas station, Michael Burch said he used to spend $70 to fill three-quarters of his pickup truck’s tank, but now pays $80 for just over half a tank.
“I’m sick and tired of taxes,” the 76-year-old retiree said. “Gas is certainly dampening the spirits and the coffers of folks that aren’t as well off.”
Hannah Coe, a 30-year-old student, said she was not sure how she would vote on the primary ballot referendum.
“I think I would be in favor of it if it was going to go to the things that it was saying it was going to go to, such as fixing our roads,” she said. “I also kind of feel like that’s just a grab at trying to get more money from the people who live here.”
Democrats blame the Iran war
Oregon Democrats spent much of last year fighting to pass a transportation funding bill to help raise money for services such as road paving and snow plowing. The debate came amid projections of declining gas tax revenue as more people adopt electric, hybrid and fuel-efficient cars.
They finally passed a narrower version of their plan during a special session called by Gov. Tina Kotek.
She recently acknowledged the challenging timing of the referendum.
“Certainly, the conversation at the ballot this year … is a tough sell right now, because I think everyone is feeling a pinch on their household budgets,” she told reporters.
But she and other Democrats said the root cause of the jump in gas prices is Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran. She suggested the federal government consider reducing the federal 18-cent-a-gallon gas tax if it wants to provide relief at the pump for Americans.
Some Oregonians are receptive to the Democrats’ reason for passing the legislation last year. Kurt Borneman, 68, said he would support the gas tax increase, even though he’s now paying at least $10 more to fill up his tank.
“I realize that money’s tight and roads need to be improved,” he said at the Portland gas station. “I want less government, but I also want nice roads.”
Democratic state Rep. Paul Evans said his party lost the battle over how to frame the gas tax increase to the public. So far, there has been no organized effort from Democrats and their allies to oppose the ballot referendum.
“When anything is reduced to, ‘Do you want a tax or not?’ Most people are going to say no,” he said. “The messaging got away from us, and it became focused upon the price instead of the value.”
May 10 (UPI) — Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Sunday the Trump administration is “open” to the possibility of suspending the federal tax on gasoline sales as prices spike amid the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
Wright said during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press he and Trump are “open to all ideas” to lower energy prices, including following the lead of some U.S. states in temporarily shelving taxes on gas at the pump amid the price surge.
“All measures that can be taken to lower the price at the pump and lower the prices for Americans, this administration is in support of,” he said. “We are constantly looking for different ideas.”
Citing previous measures such as releasing oil from the U.S. strategic petroleum reserves and “revising federal regulations on summer gasoline blends to make it easier for American refineries to produce more gasoline,” Wright said the suspension of the 18-cents-per-gallon federal tax on gas is also on the table.
“We are working every day to offset this rise in prices because of a critical conflict in Iran to drive prices down, and we’re open to all such ideas,” he said.
Wright’s comments came as the average national price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline stood at $4.52 per gallon as of Sunday, according to the Automobile Association of America.
U.S. drivers have seen sharp increases in pump prices in recent weeks after Iran blocked the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway connecting Persian Gulf oil and natural gas producers with world markets.
The move came in retaliation to a wave U.S.-Israeli bombing attacks on Iran beginning Feb. 28, which Washington and Tel Aviv claim were necessary to prevent the imminent development of a nuclear weapon by Iran’s rulers.
The price of regular gas last week surged 25 cents for the second consecutive week to $4.55 — $1.40 higher than they were a year ago and marking their highest level since 2022, the AAA reported.
Crude oil prices have dipped below $100 per barrel while a fragile cease-fire between the United States and Iran has been in place and negotiations to reopen the Strait have been ongoing. But with global oil supplies tightening, upwards pressure on pump prices continues.
In a separate appearance on CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday, Wright refused to predict were gas prices were heading.
“I don’t know the future of gas prices,” he said while admitting that “gasoline and diesel prices are up, and they will remain up while this conflict’s in place, and then they will come back down.
“And, ultimately, they’ll come back down lower than they were before.”

The Sun exclusively revealed she hasn’t settled her debts – despite hubby Lee claiming to be a billionaire.
The mum of five flashed a smile as she arrived in the UK’s Gatwick Airport, wearing a tight-fit grey crop top which clung to her curves and black joggers.
She pulled on a trendy pair of sunglasses and styled her hair poker straight, looking fresh from the long-haul trip.
Katie – who flashed her huge wedding ring in the Arrivals terminal – was accompanied by an assistant who wheeled three bags of luggage alongside her.

Lee allegedly refused to pay the bill, however he insists the work was ‘complementary’.
The clinic specialises in facial contouring and liquid rhinoplasty among other surgical and non-surgical treatments.
In response to a recent Sun post about Lee using fake money to scam women, the clinician has shared his own experience with the couple.
Just days ago, the beauty clinic owner claimed that he had not received any money and was still chasing the couple.
But in a surprise move, he alleged that he had been blocked, without any explanation for their failure to pay.
He said: “This is expected as they both left without paying for their treatment and after multiple sent invoices, I was blocked.
“Although no mention of being unhappy with the results was ever brou- ght to my attention.
“What Katie is experiencing with her treatment is perfectly normal.”
But Lee has denied these claims when the The Sun reached out to him.
He has insisted that Katie was left “unable to move her mouth” following the procedure and disputes the charges.
FROM declaring himself as a millionaire to the mysterious ‘travel ban’ saga, Katie Price’s husband Lee Andrews has seemingly left fans more concerned for the glamour model than ever before.
But as friends of the star grow increasingly worried about the whirlwind marriage, and more of Lee’s apparent untruths come to light, The Sun can reveal why Katie isn’t going anywhere, no matter how muddied the waters get.

“Everyone has told Katie multiple times that Lee is not the man for her and that she needs to walk away. Everyone believes that he is a con artist but she will not listen.
“His lies are mounting up and every week there is something new. Everyone feels helpless or the situation and they can’t keep trying and trying. It’s tiresome,” said the insider.
They continued that Katie is brushing off the worry and working harder than ever to ensure this marriage works out.
“The sad thing is, Katie won’t walk away because she hates being on her own and always has been that way.
“She is never without a man and has never been single. Even though she may appear fiery and strong from the outside deep down she is quite vulnerable and she hates being alone.
“She is very co-dependent and does rely on a man. She’s hates a quiet home it’s her worse nightmare,” they explained.

This has led to fears’ for Katie from all angles, but the mum-of-five isn’t listening, says the source.
“Despite the fact that so many men have been her undoing before, she is addicted to love and always thinks the next time will be different.”
“No matter how many times she has her heartbroken, and even when everyone else sees the red flags, she puts blinkers on because she doesn’t want to see them.”
She married for the first time in 2005 to Peter Andre, welcoming two children together before their divorce in 2009.
The following year, she tied the knot with Alex Reid in a Las Vegas wedding, but split from the cage fighter less than a year later.
In 2013 she then headed to the Bahamas to say ‘I Do’ to Kieran Hayler, they then finalised their divorce in 2021, three years after parting ways.
So now, following her Dubai ceremony with Lee earlier this year, our source says that Katie won’t accept another failed union.
“Katie is also very proud and really can’t have another failed marriage. She feels like she would be a laughing stock and a punchline, and she refuses to be the butt of people’s jokes,” they said.
“She’s very stubborn like that, and hates when her doubters are right, even if they have her best interests at heart.”
They continued: “She knows everyone is waiting for her marriage to Lee to fail, especially because of the whirlwind nature in which they got together, so she is determined to prove people wrong, even if that sometimes means turning a blind eye to the warning signs.”

And last month, Katie was banned for a seventh time after failing to respond to police letters about an 80mph speeding ticket.
But the media personality said she is now planning to get an international driving licence – despite her UK driving ban.
Katie shared a life update with her social media fans today.
She was joined by her husband Lee as she filmed a clip from the back of a moving car.

Katie said: “Hey guys, we are just going to the hospital to get my stitches taken out and then we are going to Lee’s dad for a cup of tea.”
She added: “And to get my international driving licence…”
Lee interjected and said: “That’s the easy one, then you’ll see the car,” referring to the £180k Ferrari that Lee claimed he gifted his wife.
But Katie’s followers were quick to correct the star, with one writing: “You cannot drive with an international driving licence with a driving ban. It still stands in other countries, there is no way around it.”
A second said: “I hope Katie realises as I wouldn’t want her to do anything illegal in Dubai.”
A third said: “Not with a ban in the UK, you can’t as the Dubai authorities do checks.”
Another commented: “You cannot get an International Driving Permit or drive in Dubai if you have a current UK driving ban. You must hold a valid full driving licence to apply for an International one and the UK court will have taken her licence so she cannot apply for one.”
This person added: “It appears you cannot legally drive in Dubai with a revoked UK licence.”
According to the GOV UK website, you cannot obtain an International Driving Licence if you are banned from driving in another country.
It is only issued to holders of a valid UK driving licence, which is revoked or suspended when you are banned.
But the motor was completely different from the Ferrari she previously claimed had been a gift from self-confessed multi-millionaire Lee.
She previously told how the flash car, believed to cost around £180,000, had to remain in the UAE.
It is not clear how or when Lee purchased the car and whose name it is in ownership of.
Yet despite previously gushing over the “beautiful” gift it was nowhere to be seen during her recent video.
Lee took charge of filming as Katie got settled behind the wheel and said: “Kate is driving now – is this your first time driving in Dubai?”
She was then heard swearing as she got to grips with the automatic before he assisted and said: “There you go”.
Katie then added: “First time driving in Dubai.
The former glamour girl’s latest run-in with the law comes after a Ford Capri registered to her was caught at 80mph on the A64 near Strutton in North Yorkshire.
CCTV released by the police showed Katie behind the wheel during the incident on October 15, 2025, the same day she appeared on stage with celeb pal Kerry Katona for An Evening with Katie Price & Kerry Katona at Scarborough Spa.
Katie, who was first banned in 2010, was subsequently prosecuted and convicted of failing to respond to police, landing her with a six-month driving ban and a legal bill topping £1,000.
The former pin-up was keen to set the record straight last month.
Speaking on her podcast, The Katie Price Show the star revealed: “I found out I was banned by the papers.
“I am actually livid about that because if I’d got the letters I would have replied to it.”
Revealing what happened, Katie said: “Basically I’ve paid someone to do a job.
“They haven’t done it and… now I’m now banned from driving for six months, but I am gonna go back and see if I can appeal it.”
She then added: ” Yeah, or I just think it’s only six months where I live now, I can walk to the shop. the kids schools are ten minutes up the road.
“I get shopping delivered here anyway, because I’m always at home when I work at home.
“So it’s not like in the past where I’ve been stuck right in the middle of nowhere.”
It comes after Katie’s after new husband Lee claimed he is moving to the UK in May AND revealed details of a second wedding.

A gas station in South Africa displays the latest prices for petrol and diesel after they hit a record high on Wednesday despite global oil prices plunging back below $100 a barrel on hopes of a deal to end the war in Iran. Photo by Kim Ludbrook/EPA
May 6 (UPI) — Global oil prices fell sharply and financial markets rallied Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump paused a military operation to reopen the Hormuz Strait to commercial shipping to give advanced peace talks with Iran a chance to deliver “a complete and final deal.”
Falls in Brent crude of more than $10 a barrel to $99, American crude by $13 to $92 a barrel and rallies in Asian stock markets overnight that fed into Europe when bourses opened there failed to feed through to U.S. gas prices, which jumped 5 cents a gallon to their highest level of the war.
AAA motor club figures showed a national average of $4.54 for a gallon of petrol and $5.67 for diesel, meaning drivers were paying 53% and 51% more than before the war started on Feb. 28, with the caveat that fuel price adjustments normally lag crude oil price movements by several days.
The White House believes a draft one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding to end the war and create a structure for more in-depth nuclear talks could succeed in breaking the deadlock, two U.S. officials and two other sources said.
An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman confirmed to CNBC that Iran was in receipt of the U.S. proposal and was “evaluating it.”
The Trump administration anticipates Iran will give its response with regard to the most critical elements of the plan in the next two days and although nothing has been finalized it was being seen as significant because it was the closest the sides had been to a deal since the beginning of the war.
However, Trump also appeared ambivalent, saying Wednesday it was “perhaps” too big of a stretch to believe Iran would take the deal and threatening to order the U.S. military to restart its airborne offensive against the country if it didn’t.
Analysts said investor confidence was boosted mainly by the fact the cease-fire was holding and signs that the economy was nowhere near as badly affected by the war as feared.
“This helped oil prices to come back down again and ease fears about a renewed escalation, with investors a bit more hopeful that an extended stagflationary shock would be avoided,” Deutsche Bank wrote in a note.
It added that investor confidence was also bolstered by new U.S. economic data showing among other positive indicators, that job vacancies declined less than anticipated in March, saying the numbers “cemented the case that the conflict’s wider economic impact was still fairly muted.”
“This helped oil prices to come back down again and ease fears about a renewed escalation, with investors a bit more hopeful that an extended stagflationary shock would be avoided,” they added.
Hopes were also riding on the possibility China would prevail on visiting Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi to persuade Iran to uphold the current truce with the United States, so as not to throw a wrench into Trump’s visit to Beijing on May 14, the first by any U.S. president in almost a decade.
China is one of Iran’s largest customers for its oil exports.
