But, despite all its glory, the site never attracted enough visitors to operate a sustainable business.
In a bid to save the location from ruin, Zip World took over in September and vowed to install a huge zipwire.
The company has submitted a planning application which, if accepted, would see a switchback zipwire made.
Tourists would be strapped into a chair that takes them from the top of the Orbit and back up again.
The wire would measure a whopping 440m and stretch over to London Stadium.
Plans need to be approved by Tower Hamlets and Newham council officials.
If they are given the greenlight, it is estimated the attraction would fetch 60,000 visitors each year.
Designed by Sir Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond for London 2012, the ArcelorMittal Orbit delighted visitors during the games before reopening to the public in 2014.
The ArcelorMittal Orbit isn’t just a huge sculpture, it’s also home to the world’s biggest tunnel slide, the Helix.
Standing at 76m and stretching for 178m, brave visitors can reach speeds of up to 15mph on the slide.
The huge tunnel slide also features 12 turns, which twist and snake around the Olympic Park sculpture, making for a dizzying journey.
If this sounds too stomach-churning, then visitors can also take in panoramic views over London from the ArcelorMittal Orbit 360 viewing deck.
Located at the top of the sculpture, the viewing platform boasts views for as far as 20 miles on a clear day.
Visitors have praised the attraction in their reviews on TripAdvisor, with one person writing: “The views across London are spectacular, and you get great views across the park, the stadium, and the city”.
ZipWorld boss, Andrew Hudson, said earlier this year: “We are excited to announce the re-opening date for the ArcelorMittal Orbit at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, ready for half term.
“This is just the start for Zip World in London, and we can’t wait to welcome both locals and thrill-seekers from around the world.
“We’ve got many more epic adventures lined up that will redefine urban excitement in the heart of the city.
“We’ll continue working closely with LLDC as we expand our off world-class experiences to bring something truly unique to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.”
Entry tickets to the ArcelorMittal Orbit 360 viewing deck start from £7, with tickets for Helix starting from £14.
Adventure giant Zip World has a host of other attractions in the UK, including the UK’s first zipline rollercoaster at Penrhyn Quarry in Snowdonia.
The Aero Explorer ride opened in 2023 and offers thrill-seekers a “high-speed journey across the quarry” like no other.
An overhead track is connected to a harness on the rider, which enables them to glide around as if they’re on a rollercoaster.
The track is found high above the quarry, offering views of the landscape as people fly around connected to the circuit above.
Plus, how London’s newest tourist town in a “forgotten” district is a £1.3billion attraction with hotels, theatre and a rooftop bar.

Global Finance presents its 32nd annual list of the best banks worldwide.
If one word described the global economy in 2024, it would be “resilient.” Growth was up slightly, with global GDP growth hovering around 3.1%, while the pace of global inflation slowed to approximately 5.8% from 6.8% the previous year, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Although many thought a financial crisis was imminent, none materialized as businesses continued to focus on strengthening and diversifying their supply chains, implementing digitalization strategies, and responding to rising geopolitical tensions.
In this environment, French banking giant Societe Generale took numerous crowns, winning as Global Finance’s World’s Best Bank, World’s Best Frontier Market Bank, World’s Best Transaction Bank, and World’s Best Supply Chain Provider—Bank awards.
Throughout 2024, the financial group generated €4.2 billion in group net income (up 69% from the previous year) on €26.8 billion in revenue (up 6.7%) through its 26 million clients worldwide while streamlining its core businesses and divesting others.
The Return Of The M&A
The bright spot for 2024 was the return of M&A.
“On the surface, it may appear difficult to remain sanguine after anticipating a full market resurgence for several years,” wrote Jake Henry and Mieke Van Oostende, senior partners at McKinsey, in the firm’s 2025 annual M&A report. “But many of the dynamics that stymied dealmaking for the past three years, including some that limited 2024 global deal value and volume to roughly the average of the past 20 years, are receding.”
According to data from WTW’s Quarterly Deal Performance Monitor, 15 megadeals worth more than $10 billion each closed last year, a 36% increase from 2023, and there were 162 deals valued between $1 billion and $10 billion, for a 21% increase. The number of deals totaling between $100 million and $1 billion grew approximately 15% over the same period.
Although not the “full throttle comeback that many dealmakers hoped for in 2024, performance improved (in some regions, significantly),” the McKinsey report noted. “Global dealmaking was curbed by a variety of pressures and delivered moderate returns, with deal value up 12% to $3.4 trillion.”
The year’s M&A deals were not evenly distributed geographically, however, according to WTW. North America saw the most deals closed, with 361, up 14% from the previous year. Europe notched 155 deals, up 32% from 2023. In the Asia-Pacific region, companies concluded 163 deals, representing a 5% increase.
Overall, Global Finance’s Best Banks led the way in helping to grow the M&A pipeline.
Along with the World’s Best Bank award, global honors this year include recognition as Best Corporate Bank, Best Consumer Bank, Best Banks Worldwide in Emerging and Frontier Markets, and Best Sub-Custodian Bank. All are being announced here for the first time.
Previously announced honors include Best Global Transaction Bank, Best Bank for Sustainable Finance, Best Islamic Financial Institution, Best Investment Bank, Best Cash Management Bank, Best Trade and Finance Providers, Supply Chain Provider—Bank, Best Foreign Exchange Provider, Best Private Bank, and Best SME Bank.
Methodology
The editors of Global Finance, with input from industry analysts, corporate executives, and technology experts, selected the global winners of the World’s Best Banks 2025 using information provided by entrants as well as independent research based on objective and subjective factors.
Entries are not required, but experience has shown that the information supplied in an entry can increase the chances of success. In many cases, entrants present details that may not be readily available to the editors.
Judges considered performance from January 1 to December 31, 2024. Global Finance applies a proprietary algorithm to narrow the list of contenders and assign a numerical score, with 100 signifying perfection. The algorithm weights a range of criteria for relative importance, including knowledge of the sector, market conditions and customer needs, financial strength and safety, strategic relationships and governance, capital investment and innovation, scope of global coverage, size and experience of staff, risk management, range of products and services, and use of technology. The panel tends to favor private-sector banks over government-owned institutions.
The winners in each category are those banks and providers that best serve the specialized needs of corporations engaged in global business.

World’s Best Bank 2025
Societe Generale
In a year of economic uncertainty, persistent inflation and supply chain reorganization, Societe Generale stood head and shoulders above its global competition, earning the titles of World’s Best Bank and World’s Best Frontier Market Bank.
Its three core businesses—French Retail Banking; Global Banking and Investment Solutions; and Mobility, International Retail Banking, and Financial Solutions—generated €4.2 billion in group net income (up 69% from the previous year) on €26.8 billion in revenue (up 6.7%).
Throughout the year, Societe Generale combined strategic investments in cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and innovation with a drive to streamline core businesses while divesting non core areas.
The French banking giant has leveraged AI in approximately 420 use cases across its operations to enhance customer support via its Sobot chatbot and Elliot callbot, personalize advice for private banking clients using its Synoé platform, and numerous middle- and back-office operational, security, and risk management functions.
The bank surpassed its goal of contributing €300 billion to sustainable finance by 2025, a year ahead of schedule. It has since raised its target to €500 billion, comprising €400 billion in financing and advisory services and €100 billion in sustainable bonds, by 2030. Sustainable finance deals, including acting as the mandated lead arranger for a $1.2 billion green loan that enabled ReNew Power to develop a combined wind, solar, and battery storage infrastructure in its home market of India, have helped Societe Generale maintain a leading global role in this field.
Among the new offerings the bank debuted in 2024 were a joint venture with AllianceBernstein, dubbed Bernstein, which combines the two companies’ equity research, sales, and trading operations.
Societe Generale meanwhile strengthened its capital base by simplifying its business model, improving efficiency and increasing existing synergies through a series of strategic divestitures. It exited its private banking operations in the UK and Switzerland with the sales of SG Kleinwort Hambros and Societe Generale Private Banking Suisse and continued divestment of its African subsidiaries in Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, and Morocco.
Despite these changes, Societe Generale remains the leading player in frontier markets through its Global Transaction Banking network, which spans more than 50 countries and offers a range of integrated services including managing cross-border payments, liquidity, and trade finance. Leveraging its expertise in sustainability, the bank has partnered with the International Finance Corporation to accelerate financing of energy transition projects in developing markets through its Solar Pack initiative.

World’s Best Corporate Bank 2025
BBVA
BBVA claims the title of World’s Best Corporate Bank for the third consecutive year, having expanding its market share and deal leadership during 2024. It led 86 deals across telecommunications, energy, infrastructure, consumer goods, and services for a total volume of €5.16 billion. Among these was the €6.6 billion underwriting of MasOrange, formed by the merger of the telecom companies Orange and MasMovil.
BBVA also reinforced its commitment to sustainable finance, leading the €383 million project financing of Repsol Renovables’ Gallo portfolio, a 777-megawatt solar and battery storage facility spanning Texas and New Mexico as well as the refinancing of the Monegros wind project in Aragón. Additionally, the bank directed €51.1 billion into sustainable financing throughout the year.
All told, BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking division earned some €5.8 billion in revenue in 2024, up 27% from the previous year, while increasing its net attributable profits by 30%.
Helping to fuel its growth has been the bank’s strategic investment in its infrastructure and technology partnerships. BBVA’s internal AI Factory has applied AI and machine learning to enhance customer experiences and streamline internal processes.

World’s Best Consumer Bank 2025
State Bank of India
Continued investment in digitalization, a growing global footprint, and innovative offerings earned the State Bank of India (SBI) its first World’s Best Consumer Bank award. Building on a history that dates back to 1806, SBI continues to enhance a menu of digital offerings that serve 132 million internet banking and 287 million mobile banking clients.
SBI reimagined its You Only Need One (YONO) banking and lifestyle mobile app in 2024 with its midyear announcement of YONO 2.0. The latest version enables users to initiate transactions at an SBI branch and complete them on the app, and vice versa, and features a more modular architecture for faster processing and transaction speeds. Other innovations include the debut of a tap-and-pay function in its BHIM SBI personal banking app, which leverages India’s Unified Payment Interface, as well as an end-to-end digital loan application for the bank’s Surya Ghar Loan scheme for the installation of rooftop solar collectors.
Despite its stress on digitalization, SBI also invested in 600 new branches across India to improve accessibility for underserved rural and semi-urban areas: more than fourfold the number of branches it opened the previous fiscal year.

World’s Best Emerging Markets Bank 2025
JPMorgan Chase
One of the largest financial institutions globally, JPMorgan Chase (JPMC), wins the World’s Best Bank for Emerging Markets award for its broad set of offerings, continued focus on serving emerging markets, and overall expertise.
Although many of its competitors are pulling out of emerging markets, JPMC is expanding into them. It plans to enter new African markets or deepen its existing presence there “every couple of years or so,” Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon told Reuters last October. The bank set up a representative office in Kenya that month and new offices in Côte d’Ivoire later in the year.
JPMC had a strong 2024, raising more than $400 billion in emerging market debt, including on a rising number of debt-for-nature transactions that enable countries to repurchase existing debt on better terms and use the savings to benefit the environment. El Salvador utilized the structure to secure an approximately $1 billion loan from the bank, then used it to repurchase $1.03 billion in a tender offer. The savings were allocated to improve and protect the country’s Lempa River watershed.
Besides raising debt, JPMC’s advisory services were strengthened by the launch of a Center for Geopolitics, which provides expert analysis of geopolitical trends aimed at helping clients navigate the complexities of the global economy, manage risks, and identify new opportunities.
Emerging market clients also benefit from the bank’s global infrastructure and sizable investment in its technology platforms, JPMC says. Access to these cutting-edge systems gives clients a more efficient, secure, and convenient way to manage their finances and business operations.
World’s Best Frontier Markets Bank 2025
Societe Generale
Frontier markets are playing an increasingly important role in the global economy, as they offer significant growth, albeit with smaller capitalization and higher volatility. Banks serving frontier markets must provide a comprehensive blend of corporate and commercial banking services that go beyond lending and deposits to more complex offerings, such as trade finance, securities servicing and sustainable finance. French banking giant Societe Generale is a leader across the board, with its broad range of offerings, and has beaten out its competitors to win this year’s World’s Best Frontier Market Bank award.
The bank, with over 160 years of experience, boasts a global network spanning more than 50 countries and offers highly integrated solutions for trade finance, cross-border payments, and liquidity management.
Through increased investment in artificial intelligence and other technologies, the bank has automated numerous processes and digitized others. In securities servicing, the company has leveraged generative AI, smart workflows, and robust data management to provide an enhanced client experience for its corporate and institutional clients, resulting in a doubling of client recommendation rates and increased participation in satisfaction surveys.
Meanwhile, Societe Generale has made great leaps in sustainable finance. The bank has committed 300 billion euros to sustainable finance by 2024 and introduced a new target of 500 billion euros by 2030, with a focus on decarbonization in sectors with the highest carbon-intensive emissions. To further strengthen its position, the bank also launched its Sustainable Global Transaction Banking Framework, which enables businesses to assess and monitor the environmental and social impacts of their working capital, trade, and liquidity management activities.
Societe Generale also signed a collaboration framework agreement with the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation to accelerate sustainable finance through investments in clean energy, water, and other infrastructure projects, as well as in agribusiness and women entrepreneurs.
World’s Best Transaction Bank 2025
Societe Generale
Societe Generale excels at navigating the complexities of realtime payments, offering rigorous testing and dedicated IT support including client training. While clients expect similar functionalities for domestic and cross-border payments, Jean-François Mazure, head of Cash Clearing Services, notes that they struggle to differentiate. Converging both payment types, which hinges on interlinking financial market infrastructures, is critical, he argues.
Numerous market initiatives, including immediate cross-border payments (IXB) between the US and Europe, face significant hurdles, Mazure warns: “It is truly complex from a compliance and legal framework standpoint. So, for the moment, none of these initiatives has succeeded in scaling up.”
To interconnect real-time payment systems, he says, the most likely way forward is to adopt the “one leg out” (OLO) principle already in operation for transactions involving one bank inside the European Economic Area and one bank outside. But all parties will need to continue to align for interconnectivity to be achieved, he adds. OLO’s success hinges on compliance with ISO 20022 standards as well as resolving commercial and liability challenges across various schemes.
Mal Cullen, CEO
World’s Best Sub-custodian Bank 2025
CIBC Mellon
CIBC Mellon continues to refine its comprehensive asset-servicing business model, emphasizing innovation, process efficiency, and client service. Jointly owned by Bank of New York Mellon and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, CIBC Mellon leverages CIBC’s local knowledge in the Canadian market combined with BNY’s technology and global custody infrastructure to serve institutional clients in Canada and globally. The combination has yielded consistent growth; assets under administration recently surpassed C$3 trillion ($2.2 trillion).
Ongoing priorities focus on broadening customer relationships and services through continual investment in IT and partnerships with the fintech sector, aimed at providing greater levels of core service automation along with enhanced transaction transparency and execution efficiency. This includes better straight-through processing for a seamless and secure transmission of client data, investment in pre- and post-trade communication services for trade matching and routing, and tracking of the settlement lifecycle.
Project Fuel, an enterprise-wide data and innovation initiative, is focused on transforming the client experience by equipping customers with tools to manage and analyze data more effectively, improving transparency and accelerating decision-making.
CIBC Mellon continues to enhance its online reporting platform, NEXEN, which integrates data and predictive analytics to provide clients with faster, real-time cash position and activity reporting through an improved user interface. Digital assets are expanding in the market; the bank is collaborating with stakeholders in Canada and globally and with BNY’s digital-asset unit to develop offerings in this area. This involves bolstering its data analytics capabilities and digital infrastructure through enhanced customization, automation, and service flexibility with a view to assisting clients to launch new offerings including alternative-asset ETFs and cryptocurrency funds.

The bank provides transition-related financing for these organizations at the corporate, project, and asset levels. Among its offerings are green, sustainability-linked, and social loans and bonds, along with carbon-market financing and other products.
Standout transactions in 2024 included a loan to LG Energy to construct a plant in Poland that manufactures batteries used in electric vehicles. A HK$3 billion (about $385.7 million) loan to the Hong Kong Housing Society will help create affordable residential projects. A S$300 million (about $224.2 million) bond will help Singaporean developer CapitaLand develop projects in alignment with green finance frameworks.
In addition, the bank develops analytical tools to track and analyze climate data and engages with industries—notably in the power, automotive, steel, shipping, and real estate sectors—and policymakers to chart paths to a healthier environment.
Khaled Yousef AlShamlan, Group CEO

Kuwait Finance House (KFH) is recognized as the World’s Best Islamic Financial Institution for strengthening its franchise in multiple markets, for financing innovation, and for its overall operating performance. KFH provides services to customers in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia through extensive distribution channels, with an increasing emphasis on digitalization. The bank has subsidiaries in Kuwait, Turkey, Egypt, Bahrain, Iraq, Malaysia, the UK, and Germany.
KFH has made significant strides toward digital transformation in risk management, adopting the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics to enhance risk measurement and monitoring. Tam Digital Bank, KFH’s digital bank in Kuwait, recorded strong customer numbers and transaction growth in 2024.
The bank’s financial profile is noticeably sound; a successful capital management program yielded a capital adequacy ratio (CAR) of 19.9%, considerably exceeding regulatory requirements and promising to support growth in the coming years. Return on average assets is good at 1.8% and loan asset-quality metrics are robust. KFH’s Islamic banking products and services cover commercial, retail, and corporate banking as well as real estate, trade finance, project finance, asset management, and investments.
World’s Best Investment Bank 2025
BofA Securities
Against the backdrop of thriving global stock markets and rising debt-finance activity, Bank of America (BofA) Securities’ global operations achieved an impressive 43% year-over-year jump in investment banking fees as of the fourth quarter of 2024.
The numbers were buoyed mainly by the bank’s three big areas of operations: North America, Latin America, and Europe, where the bank controlled a commanding 8.3%, 9%, and 4.4% of total investment banking fees, respectively. That boosted revenue for the full year to nearly $5.5 billion, according to Dealogic, representing around 6.2% of the global investment banking market.
BofA also scored big on M&A despite somewhat subdued activity in the field, serving as lead buy-side advisor on the $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines by Alaska Air. The bank also acted as sole buy-side financial advisor on Keurig Dr Pepper’s $990 million acquisition of energy beverage company GHOST.
Brian Moynihan, Chairman and CEO
World’s Best Bank for Cash Management 2025
Bank of America
Reflecting the demand for consistent global visibility and control, Bank of America saw the app version of its CashPro platform surpass $1 trillion in payment approvals in 2024. CashPro allows clients to manage treasury operations across multiple channels: online, app, APIs, and file-based interfaces.
“One thing that distinguishes CashPro is its global consistency,” says Tom Durkin, head of CashPro at BofA’s Global Payments Solutions, “so that when a company’s finance team has team members in different countries, they’ll all have access to the same tools, views, and processes. The advantages are obvious: better visibility and control and no additional financial outlays.”
Much of CashPro’s success is due to BofA’s close engagement with clients, Durkin notes, particularly those who participate in client board meetings.
“This dialogue is so important,” he says. “We do deep dives into our clients’ priorities and challenges, we present options for new functionality and discuss whether those innovations are going to solve their real-world issues.”
The bank’s strategic vision for CashPro “will always be to provide a best-in-class platform that is personalized, predictive, and proactive,” he adds. “One recent demonstration is how we’ve embedded CashPro into our clients’ own systems through the CashPro Network, a collaboration with third-party providers allowing quick, easy connection to the bank with little to no investment.”
World’s Best Trade Finance Provider 2025
BNP Paribas
Offering global trade finance in 44 countries and more than 100 trade centers across more than 60 countries gives BNP Paribas a strong geographical foundation for its offering of seamless trade finance solutions across borders, supporting client growth throughout the entire trade cycle.
A broad range of traditional trade finance and working capital management solutions and substantial investment in technology, including web-based e-banking platforms like Connexis Guarantee, Connexis Trade, and Connexis Supply Chain, helps the French multinational support clients with complex international trade operations. Leveraging digital solutions, such as blockchain and AI, streamlines processes, improves efficiency, and enhances customer experience.
In 2022, BNP Paribas launched a program using AI to streamline the processing of trade finance documents and improve traceability for its clients. Since then, the bank has rolled the program out to 15 countries and processed 40,000 transactions.
“We have implemented AI technology to help classify, extract data, and automate controls. This is live today and being further expanded in terms of functionalities,” says Jean-François Denis, global head of Trade Solutions. “Bank guarantees also present the potential for AI usage, such as verifying guarantee clauses against acceptable clauses, policies, and guidelines. Anti-money laundering is yet another area where we have deployed AI.”
World’s Best Supply Chain Finance Provider – Bank 2025
Societe Generale
The French banking giant introduced a new workflow product in 2024 that includes external data and better analyzes clients’ working capital needs. The new offerings include peer comparison of key receivables and payables financing elements.
On the sustainability front, Societe Generale offers an ESG version of its full range of solutions, including green or social-focused factoring, forfaiting, and sustainability-linked supply chain financing (SCF). The bank also offers a dedicated and simplified solution for retail clients and SMEs based on their ESG rating.
Finally, establishing connectivity to CRX Markets, the marketplace for working capital finance, has improved support for SocGen’s largest clients, helping to grow the bank’s SCF programs.
World’s Best Global Foreign Exchange Bank 2025
UBS
Upon completing its megamerger with Credit Suisse in May 2024, UBS leveraged its already best-in-class corporate banking, foreign exchange (FX), and product offerings for a record-breaking year. Not only did its global operation more than double analysts’ expectations in the third quarter of 2024, booking a massive $1.4 billion in net income, but it did so with a significant contribution from its corporate banking division, which saw revenue jump by more than 8% year over year.
Those numbers received a massive boost from UBS’s thriving FX operation, which averaged over $125 billion in daily electronic FX trades, with more than 2,500 active global clients. The bank posted substantial growth across several geographies and currency pairs. Among the highlights: solid profitability growth in Middle Eastern and Northern African currencies and a massive 40% market-share increase in Scandinavian currencies. In Asia, UBS’s continued efforts to improve its already top-tier suite of electronic FX capabilities paid off handsomely in China and Singapore, where it has doubled down on its data center improvement efforts.
On the technology front, UBS further expanded the limits of the global FX market, hosting the world’s first intraday FX swap in a regulated venue in July. The bank recently launched its blockchain-based multicurrency payment solution, UBS Digital Cash, processed through its flagship FX Engine Room, enhancing its overall FX offering.
World’s Best Private Bank 2025
J.P. Morgan Private Bank
For the fifth consecutive year, J.P. Morgan US Private Bank has excelled at adapting to shifting macroeconomic conditions, delivering best-in-breed results to its clients. Riding the phenomenal rebound in global investing built on improving monetary conditions and subsiding inflationary pressures, the bank saw client assets rise by 24% over the previous year, totaling more than $2.5 trillion under supervision.
Against this backdrop, revenues increased 18.5%, with pretax income showing an even more significant 36% boost year on year.
On the product side, J.P. Morgan made significant strides at integrating advanced AI tools, including JPMorgan Chase’s Connect Coach and the Chase Connect mobile app, into its award-winning product portfolio. These include risk analytics and portfolio management services that serve as a benchmark for many in the industry. Alongside these product advances, the bank added over 300 expert advisors to its team, helping it attract more than 5,400 new clients.
Roberto Sallouti, CEO
World’s Best SME Bank 2025
BTG Pactual Empresas
BTG Pactual Empresas boasts an SME lending portfolio that reached R$22.1 billion (approximately $3.9 billion) in the first quarter of 2024, its SME credit book growing 52% year on year. SME business now accounts for 12% of BTG Pactual’s total portfolio.
The bank attributes its SME growth in part to its digital capabilities. Its digital platform offers an integrated portfolio of SME products and services, providing access to the bank’s credit, guarantee, insurance, investments, foreign exchange, and derivatives products. Associated services accessible via the platform include creation of invoices payable by QR code; online invoicing; instant electronic bank transfers; open banking; payments to suppliers, tax authorities, and utilities; budgeting and categorized spending services; and digital receipts. The platform offers more than 45 integrations, including Telegram and Google Workspace, along with a extensive range of productivity improvement products.
Speed is a crucial benefit. The platform enables BTG to disburse 95% of its loan funds in less than 10 minutes, the bank says, 16 times faster than its competitors.
Agriculture is a big part of the Brazilian economy, and BTG offers services tailored to the sector including credit lines for agricultural products (fertilizers, pesticides, seeds); equipment financing; and infrastructure financing for the construction of silos, warehouses, and other facilities.
Activities addressing ESG issues are also important to BTG. Of its loans to corporations and SMEs, 72% are subject to social, environmental, and climate-risk analysis, in line with international best practices. R$8.9 billion of its lending portfolio aligns with the bank’s sustainable financing framework.

Hollyoaks actor Jeremy Sheffield previously appeared in Coronation Street before securing his memorable parts on the Channel 4 drama.
The 59-year-old actor is recognised for portraying Chester’s Patrick Blake between 2012 and 2016, and has recently returned to the enduring soap as the character’s twin sibling Jez.
Jeremy initially left Hollyoaks in 2016, when his character met a shocking end at the hands of killer granddaughter Nico Blake (Persephone Swales-Dawson).
Discussing his character in 2024, actor Jeremy hinted at a troubling history between Jez and his late twin, reports the Manchester Evening News.
He revealed to Inside Soap magazine: “A huge event blew the brothers apart and Jez disappeared – whatever went on was so traumatic he just had to escape. I imagine Jez was Patrick’s first victim.”
However, before the actor set foot in Chester as Patrick or his wicked serial killer twin Jez, Jeremy featured on competing soap Coronation Street and contributed to a beloved character’s exit.
In December 2011, Jeremy joined the Cobbles as Danny Stratton, who became a fresh romantic prospect for unlucky-in-love Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly).
Danny, working as a hotel manager, initially encountered Becky at a perfect moment as she attempted to move forward from her collapsed marriage to Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who had swiftly begun a fresh relationship with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).
Becky and Danny’s romance hit a rocky start when she discovered a woman and a young lad at his house, leading her to believe he was a married man.
However, Danny quickly clarified that the individuals were his sister and son, Billy.
When Tracy accused her romantic rival of causing her miscarriage, the Weatherfield locals turned against Becky.
But, Danny, being the good soul he is, stepped in to clear Becky’s name and expose Tracy as a fibber.
Just as things seemed to be looking up for the new couple, Danny and Becky, they were left heartbroken when his hotel company moved him to Barbados, putting their relationship in jeopardy.
In a surprising romantic turn, Becky chose to join Danny and Billy in their new life overseas, bidding a final farewell to Weatherfield in January 2012.
Apart from Hollyoaks and Corrie, soap star Jeremy has featured in several other telly shows and films, including Murder in Suburbia, Hotel Babylon, Creep and The Wedding Date.
He also portrayed Alex Adams in Holby City from 2000 to 2003. In 2010, he took part in the ITV series Dancing On Ice.
According to IMDB, Jeremy’s first acting gig was as a dancer in Queen’s iconic music video for the chart-topping ‘I Want To Break Free’. He also played the man in Natalie Imbruglia’s music video Torn.
Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am

The world’s most famous and fanciest train has announced a new route.
There are few, if any, rail operators as synonymous with opulent luxury and glamour as the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE). Close to a century and a half since the original train launched, the new service, which takes inspiration from the original, continues to wow guests.
According to Travel + Leisure, the VSOE will travel from Paris to the Amalfi Coast in Italy and will be inaugurated on May 4, 2026.
The train trundles out of the French capital for an overnight journey to Pompeii. The going is leisurely, with guests able to enjoy food and drink in the painstakingly preserved 1920s carriages. It will feature cocktails and live piano music in the train’s famed Bar Car 3674.
Train travellers can disembark in Pompeii and explore the historic UNESCO site, which has been preserved by ash from Mount Vesuvius. Grand Suite guests can enjoy exclusive access to the rarely opened Casa del Larario Regio V, an archaeological treasure that Caruso supports through its preservation efforts.
A boat will then whisk guests to the lavish Caruso hotel in Positano for a two-night stay. The hotel is known for its history and its newly restyled La Piscina infinity pool, perched 1,000 feet above the sea.
Venice Simplon-Orient-Express general manager Pascal Deyrolle told WWD: “This journey offers guests a unique way to experience one of Italy’s most celebrated coastlines — with its cliffs, villages and sea views revealed in a way that only the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express can provide.”
Before you book any annual leave, it’s important to note one thing. The trip is not cheap. The price tag for a ticket on the Paris to Amalfi service looks to set you back a hefty £8,600.
While that may sound pretty expensive (and it is), that fee does include all meals, transfers and excursions. It’s all relative at least. The priciest route could leave you more than £60,000 lighter for the Grand Suite on a five-day expedition travelling from Istanbul to Paris.
There are other luxury trains on offer.

MORE of an all-rounder? You’ll love the adults-only Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade on board Royal Caribbean’s newest ship Star of the Seas.
The lively venue is crammed with screens showing the biggest sports games and events.
For something more physically challenging, the sports court has a basketball area, pickleball and football. Or at Adrenaline Peak, guests can take on the rock-climbing wall or try riding waves on the surf simulator.
The procession attracts thousands of visitors with transport, accommodation and even drinks difficult to come by on the big night.
The event begins with a torch-led procession, before bonfires are held across the town.
Firework displays are also conducted towards the end of the evening.
Ahead of the event on November 5, a multi-agency group has issued a series of advice for the public.
Transport restrictions
Transport restrictions are also being put in place to prevent visitors from attending the event.
In a statement, the group, which includes Sussex Police and the British Transport Police, said: “We ask that you do not attend Lewes Bonfire unless you are local because the crowds and narrow streets can present unique safety challenges.
The event also marks the memory of 17 martyrs from the town who were burnt at the stake for their religious beliefsCredit: REUTERS
“The decision to bring in travel restrictions has been made in the best interests of safety, by limiting the number of people attending.
“It is hoped that those who are inconvenienced will understand that and have time to make alternative arrangements where possible.
“It is recognised this will impact motorists and train passengers who are not planning to attend the event.”
Locals have been reacting to the news on Facebook.
One said: “Lewes is in lockdown for the bonfire, so you can’t get there.”
Another posted: “The more you tell someone not to do it the more they do.”
For the last several hundred years, Lewes Bonfire has taken place in the small Sussex town.
The event marks both Guy Fawkes Night and the memory of 17 martyrs from the town who were burnt at the stake for their religious beliefs.
There are thought to be more than 3,000 bonfire society members who take part in the procession each year, while up to 80,000 people have been known to watch the town’s parade.
The population of Lewes town is just more than 17,000.
A series of road closures will also be in place from 4.45pm on November 5, with residents advised to get any vehicles to their homes before 4pm to avoid disruption.
From 5pm that day, no trains will stop at Lewes, Falmer, Cooksbridge, Glynde and Southease.
South Korea is setting its sights on joining the ranks of the world’s top four defence powers by 2030, with President Lee Jae Myung announcing a major funding boost for weapons and aerospace research at the country’s largest-ever arms fair on Monday.
Speaking at the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025, President Lee unveiled plans for a “larger-than-expected budget” dedicated to defence innovation, including next-generation weapons, unmanned systems, and AI-driven combat technology.
South Korea, currently ranked 10th globally in arms sales according to SIPRI data, has rapidly emerged as a major weapons exporter, fueled by rising global demand following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Becoming one of the top four powerhouses in the defence industry is by no means an impossible dream,” Lee declared, outlining a strategy centered on self-reliance and technological sovereignty.
Technological Focus: Building Independence
Lee emphasized that Seoul’s path to military dominance will hinge on indigenous innovation from advanced semiconductors to locally developed materials and components critical for modern warfare systems.
“We will establish technological sovereignty by focusing investment on technologies, parts, and materials that must be secured independently,” Lee said, signaling a drive to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and strengthen Korea’s high-tech defence ecosystem.
Why It Matters
South Korea’s defence surge represents a new phase in global power dynamics, as traditional arms leaders like the U.S., Russia, and China face rising competition from technologically agile exporters. The move also underscores Seoul’s bid to leverage its world-class electronics and shipbuilding expertise for military dominance.
With defence exports surging from howitzers and missiles to warships and ammunition South Korea is fast becoming a preferred arms supplier for nations seeking reliable alternatives amid supply disruptions from traditional powers.
Government: Pledging billions in R&D and industry subsidies through 2030.
Korean Defence Firms (Hanwha, LIG Nex1, Hyundai Rotem): Showcasing AI-enhanced and unmanned weapons at ADEX to attract new export clients.
Overseas Buyers: Poland, Australia, and the UAE remain top partners, signaling Seoul’s growing footprint in both European and Middle Eastern markets.
Industry Analysts: See the move as a turning point that could push South Korea past traditional mid-tier arms exporters like France and the U.K. in global rankings.
What’s Next
South Korea plans to use the ADEX 2025 platform to announce new export deals and joint ventures aimed at expanding its defence technology abroad. The government is expected to release its 2030 Defence Industry Roadmap early next year, detailing specific spending targets and export goals.
If successful, Seoul’s ascent could redefine Asia’s military-industrial balance transforming the country from a security consumer into one of the world’s dominant arms producers.
NEW images have revealed what the world’s biggest airport will eventually look like.
Located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, King Salman International Airport is set to surpass all other airports in size, including the current biggest airport in the world which is also in the country.

The 22sqm airport will feature six runways – up from two – parallel to each other and will be built around the existing King Khalid International Airport.
It will approximately be the same size as Manhattan in New York – or twice the size of the city of Bath, in the UK.
And now the airport has moved into its construction phase.
The airport will be designed by Foster + Partners, a UK firm which is behind London‘s famous Gherkin.
Inside, travellers will be able to explore 4.6sqm of shops.
A lot of features in the airport are set to include high tech, such as climate-controlled lighted.
Travellers will have plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor spaces with greenery and vast glass windows, ideal for a bit of plane spotting.
Foster + Partner’s is also developing the Wadi Loop, which will connect the airport to other developments allowing travellers to access different sites more easily.
The airport was announced back in 2022 and is part of Crown PrinceMohammed bin Salman‘s Saudi Vision 2030 – which is set to make Riyadh into a major hub for transport, trade and tourism.
It will eventually accommodate up to 120million passengers each year, which is then expected to rise to 185million by 2050.
And the number of aircraft takeoffs will rise from 211,000 per year to over one million.
In total, the project is estimated to cost around $30billion (£22.5billion).
Earlier this year, the existing airport revealed a newly-expanded terminal with 38 new check-in counters, 10 self-service kiosks, 26 passport control counters and 10 automated gates.
Terminal 1 also has 24 boarding gates, 40 passport control counters in the arrivals area and 11 self-service gates.
As a result of the expansion, Terminal 1 will be able to handle seven million passengers a year – up from three million.

The attraction would be split into five lands, with each dedicated to a different decade – 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Then there would be an additional zone, that would allow a “glimpse into the unknown future“.
Once open, the theme park would include immersive attractions, rides, activities, dining, shopping and live entertainment – all themed around the five decades.
Social media influencer Daniel Leo Jr is behind the theme park which he has been working on with his father for the past seven years.
Announcing the news on his Instagram, Danie-Leo Jr said: “When you enter the park, you will begin your journey through the time travel portal and then from there you will be transported back to the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.
“The park will be anchored by the Fountain of Youth, that will feature a nightly firework and laser light show spectacle, that will celebrate the icons of American pop culture, through the decades.”
Little details about the theme park have been officially confirmed, but the company has released a lot of concept art revealing what could possible appear at the attraction.
In ‘The Fabulous 50s’ land, there would be ‘The King’ diner that appears to be a tribute to rock and roll legend Elvis Presley.
There would also be a ‘Monroe Cocktail Bar’ in this land, dedicated to icon Marilyn Monroe.
In this land, it looks like there will be a car water-based ride as well.
Heading onto ‘Peace & Love 60s’, the art shows there would be a ‘Yello Submarine Coffee House, perhaps as a tribute to The Beatles who rose to fame in the early 60s.
And the ‘Rocket Bar’ would be themed around the space race.
In the 70s land, there would be a ‘Twist and Shout’ restaurant and a ‘Disco Bar’.
Then for the 80s, decade icon Pac-Man will get its own bar.
For the 90s land, there will be a skate park area and a ‘Grunge’ area.

The futuristic zone looks like it would include lots of high-tech attractions.
Daniel-Leo Jr added: “RetroEscapes is being designed as a hybrid indoor/outdoor, multi-level park with cooling measures in place to ensure a comfortable experience year-round.
“We’re currently in active talks with land partners, the city/county, and strategic partners. It’s still too early to give an exact timeline, but updates will be shared as things progress.”
He also claimed that the park is being designed by PGV Destinations, the same company behind Ferrari World, Europe Park and Universal StudiosFlorida.

Despite not having a timeline, people are still getting excited with many taking to social media to express their love for the planned attraction.
One person said: “Can’t wait to watch this build out happen! Find me in the 90s era! Blockbuster and Pizza Hut, scrunchies and slap bracelets all day!”
SOUTHWEST Airlines has revealed its new cabin interior and the seats have been made to be extra comfy.
The budget airline says it has listened to travellers and improved facilities in its updated cabin like USB chargers and entertainment holders.

Southwest Airlines is the world’s biggest budget airline as it serves the largest number of routes around the world.
Now, it has revealed the new design onboard its Boeing 737 MAX 8 – the airline even took passenger feedback into account when creating the new cabin.
It has covered “employee perceptions of color, comfort, and aspirations for the overall onboard experience, and it’s meant to create a cabin environment that feels modern, welcoming, and uniquely Southwest.”
The airline added that its seats “are intuitively designed for ultimate comfort, while maximizing seat width and overall support”.
The design should make for better lumbar support than the current seats on Southwest’s planes.
Along with a new seat design the cabin has bigger overhead lockers with space for 60 per cent more bags, USB-A and USB-C chargers at every seat and carpeting and lighting updates.
It even has a holder for electronic devices on the back of seats, and tray tables have inset drink holders on left and right.
On the plane are extra legroom rows which have been fitted ahead of the official launch of assigned seating from January 2026.
More than half of the carrier’s planes have now been fitted with extra legroom as of mid-October 2025.
So while economy seats have been fitted with extras, they aren’t any bigger. The pitch is 31″, while extra legroom seats have five inches more legroom.
There’s lots more room on the overhead lockers in the new cabin fitCredit: Instagram/@southwestair
Extra legroom seats also come with two free checked bags, early boarding, premium drinks and snacks, and free Wi-Fi.
Earlier this year, Chris Perry, a Southwest spokesperson, told USA TODAY: “We didn’t want to remove any seats from the planes so we pulled down an inch of pitch to accommodate the ELR [extra legroom] seating and stay at 175 seats” referring to the Boeing 737-800 and Max 8 planes
He added the airline’s 737-700s will each have six fewer seats after retrofits.
WestJet announced it has had a “full cabin refresh” and introduced economy seating with a “fixed recline” to its Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-800 aircraft.
WestJet explained that the reason for this is to “help preserve personal space”.
There’s space to perch and charge personal devicesCredit: Instagram/@southwestair
For passengers who do want to put their seats back, you can do so in premium – a new seating option which has been added to the aircraft.
The airline went on to add that the new seating options are good news for passengers as it will result in cheaper tickets.
This is because filling economy seats means that airlines can cover basic costs, whereas selling premium or first class tickets is where they make their money.
By reducing the size of economy seats, or even taking some out altogether, airlines have room to create more space for high-profit cabins.
From December, as new coat of arms will appear on the front, designed by Prince Charles.

Iron Rattler, the tallest tilt coaster in the world at 208 feet tall. And Gyrospin, the tallest pendulum ride in the world will be 173 feet tall.
The Six Flags Qiddiya City will have six different lands; Steam Town, City of Thrills, Twilight Gardens, Grand Exposition, Valley of Fortune and Discovery Springs.
Discovery Springs is where visitors will be transported to deep underwater.

It also has a water drop adventure ride, and playground for children called Aquatopia.
There will be eight themed zones inspired by the wildlife found in Saudi Arabia, for example Camel Rock and Viper Canyon.
Inside the water park that’s also set to open in late 2025, will be 22 rides, a surf pool, water coaster and slides.
It’s not all rides and rollercoasters at Qiddiya City, the site will open its own racetrack that spans across two levels – the first of its kind in the world.
The track has even been designed by racing drivers and will have the very first elevated track corner which is 70-metres high – which equates to a 20-storey building.
While the track will mostly be used by professionals, it will host open days for members of the public.
The Indonesia government said last week it will not grant visas to Israeli gymnasts for the World Championships.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected appeals by the Israel Gymnastics Federation to be allowed to compete at a world championships in Indonesia this weekend.
The CAS also turned down Israel’s request to force the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to guarantee Israel’s participation, or alternatively cancel or move the artistic worlds, set to start on Sunday in Jakarta.

The Indonesian government last week said it will not grant visas to Israeli gymnasts, and the Swiss-based CAS said on Tuesday that FIG stated it has no control over Indonesia’s visa policies.
In its reaction to Indonesia’s move, the FIG did not threaten to take the event away from Indonesia as stipulated in its statutes for cases where the host refuses to issue visas. Israel wanted the FIG “taking note” of the government statement to be annulled, but CAS also rejected that on Tuesday.
Indonesia’s decision to deny visas came after Israel’s planned participation sparked intense opposition in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, which has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinians.
Israel is among 86 countries registered to compete at the worlds, with a team featuring 2021 Olympic gold medallist and defending world champion Artem Dolgopyat in the men’s floor exercise.
Now its participation is in doubt, even though the Israeli federation said in July that it had been assured by Indonesian officials that it would be welcome at the worlds. That would have gone against Indonesia’s longstanding policy of refusing to host Israeli sport delegations for major events.
The gymnastics spat is the latest example of how the global backlash against Israel over the humanitarian toll of the war in Gaza has spread into the arenas of sport and culture.

Following her achievement, Hunt claimed that she would celebrate with some karaoke.
Quizzed what she’d be singing, the confident star said: “Probably Maneater.
“That’s really boring but I feel like that was the vibe tonight, just sexy and aggressive.”
Hunt, who has a degree in English Literature from Cambridge, continues to have her eyes firmly set on further prizes.
Speaking to The Times, the 200m specialist said: “Obviously, as a female athlete, you also have to plan when you think motherhood is a feasible thing for you.
“But the world is very open to me and I will get a sense of what I want to do when the moment is right.
“I actually always joke to my coach, ‘medals before men’, that’s the quote of the day!”
Hunt has not ruled out balancing her blossoming athletics career with further studies.
She added: “I change my mind on it every year. Immediately after coming out of university I thought about the V&A and doing a Masters — with the hope of maybe going on to do a PhD, because I always thought being ‘Dr Amy’ would be pretty cool.
“But then my mind changed and I think I’d want to actually work at a museum or gallery and curate.

We discovered unforgettable scenery, culture and cuisine on a trip to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador’s western coast, with glacier-carved fjords and the Earth’s mantle

We explored Western Newfoundland, Canada and its untouched beauty(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
Majestic mountains, ancient glaciers and miles of untouched landscapes where moose and caribou thrive are just part of what makes Western Newfoundland so spectacular. With a rich history filled with Indigenous, English, Irish and French influences, this region in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador is a place of pure beauty, with a charm echoed by its residents.
You’ll be welcomed with open arms and told, “It’s the people that you’re going to meet that will make your experience.” The uncrowded paradise stretches 750 kilometres and is one of the rare places in the world you can walk on the Earth’s mantle and gaze at glacier-carved fjords. The area is known to experience four seasons in a day, as locals told us, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes!”
Our first stop was family-run Shallow Bay Motel & Cabins in the small fishing village of Cow Head. Our room was cosy and comforting with views out to the serene waters. The inviting wooden porch was the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee in the morning, and the motel also offers guests a dip in its outdoor heated pool or hot tub overlooking the sea.
Our next stay was further down the coast in the town of Norris Point. Sugar Hill Inn is set on a hillside and has generously sized rooms and wrap-around porches. Our room had charming wooden floors and interiors, and an outside entrance led to our decking area with wooden Adirondack chairs for lounging.
Natural wonders
Carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age more than 10,000 years ago, the landlocked fjord of Western Brook Pond is one of the most popular places to visit in Newfoundland. Located in Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it has towering cliffs, misty waterfalls cascading from 2,000-feet high and a pristine freshwater lake. We marvelled at this breathtaking fjord with its picture-postcard views during a two-hour boat trip, complete with insightful commentary from a friendly Bontours crew member. Keep an eye out for the hidden face in the rocks, naturally chiseled by time and weather, known as the Tin Man.
The Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park is one of the few places in the world where you can encounter the Earth’s mantle – the layer of silicate rock between the crust and the outer core. In an experience we won’t forget in a hurry, we walked on the exposed ground – which we were told is similar to that on Mars – along a 4km trail through the striking valleys.
Cultural tour
In Norris Point, we threw ourselves into the local culture and journeyed back in time on an Indigenous Tour with Gros Morne Adventures, experiencing life through the eyes of the first inhabitants. Starting in a canoe, we paddled across serene waters as bald eagles flew above to Bonne Bay, where colourful cabins decorate the shoreline. A speed boat then took us to Gadd’s Harbour where we disembarked to hike through woodland, following moose trails while passing wildflowers, raspberry shrubs and squash berries.
We learnt how locals had a“boil up”, making a campfire to serve tea while out in the wilderness – a tradition many still hold today. We also made Lu’skinikin (bannock), a traditional Indigenous bread, before trying our hand at creating a fire using Stone Age tools.
We also took a stroll around Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, which once guided fishermen and sailing vessels into Bonne Bay, and sampled local honey during a tour at the Cormack Bee Company. We couldn’t resist buying their red Thai chilli-infused honey to bring back home.
For a night like no other, we attended the annual Writers at Woody Point Literary Festival, where we enjoyed live music from the likes of Ed Robertson, frontman of the band Barenaked Ladies, and who wrote the theme song for sitcom The Big Bang Theory. It was an evening we’ll remember forever.
Coastal cuisine
We discovered a thriving food scene in Newfoundland, with nods to Indigenous dishes while paying homage to its European influences, and a strong focus on fresh fish and seafood. At the Buoy & Arrow Restaurant in Rocky Harbour, we had our first taste of moose in a soup, before sharing a snow crab Nmjinikej dip with salted flatbread chips. A visit here wouldn’t be complete without ordering their signature lobster roll.
Shallow Bay Family Restaurant in Cow Head saw us dine on fresh salmon from their menu of local favourites and sip refreshing beer, brewed with iceberg water, while admiring the views of the bay through their panoramic windows.
Another highlight was Chanterelles at Sugar Hill Inn, which offers a fine dining experience in an intimate yet relaxed setting. We started with the seafood cakes with shrimp, salmon and cod, before relishing the succulent roasted duck breast with partridgeberry and orange gastrique and roasted garlic mash.
The Black Spruce at Neddies Harbour Inn was nothing short of perfection too – even our freshly baked bread with molasses butter to start left us speechless. Some favourites on the menu include the seafood chowder and the Atlantic beef tenderloin.
How to book
Rooms at Shallow Bay Motel start from £87, and at Sugar Hill Inn from £134 per night, based on two sharing. Air Canada offers return flights from London Heathrow to Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador (via Halifax, Nova Scotia) from £587pp. See newfoundlandlabrador.com and atlanticcanadaholiday.co.uk for more details.
Indonesia has denied visas to Israel athletes ahead of the upcoming world championships in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation.

Gymnastics’ governing body has given a muted reaction to Indonesia’s announcement that it would block Israeli athletes from competing at the upcoming world championships in Jakarta.
“The FIG takes note of the Indonesian government’s decision not to issue visas to the Israeli delegation registered for the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics, which will be held in Jakarta from 19-25 October, and recognizes the challenges that the host country has faced in organizing this event,” it said in a short statement on Friday

The statement did not threaten to take the event away from Indonesia, as stipulated in FIG statutes for cases where the host refuses to issue visas.
“The FIG hopes that an environment will be created as soon as possible where athletes around the world can enjoy sports safely and with peace of mind,” it said.
Indonesia’s decision to deny visas to the Israeli athletes came after their planned participation had prompted intense opposition in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, which has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinians.
Israel is among 86 countries registered to compete at the worlds, with a team highlighted by 2020 Olympic gold medallist and defending world champion Artem Dolgopyat in the men’s floor exercise.
Now its participation is in doubt, even though the Israeli Gymnastics Federation said in July that it had been assured by Indonesian officials that it would be welcome at the worlds. That would have gone against Indonesia’s longstanding policy of refusing to host Israeli sports delegations for major events.
On Thursday, Indonesia’s senior minister of law, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, made it clear the Israeli team will not be allowed into the country, despite Israel and Hamas having agreed to a ceasefire.
“We respect every decision taken by the government with various considerations,” Indonesian Olympic Committee president Raja Sapta Oktohari told a news conference in Jakarta on Friday.
Indonesian Gymnastics Federation chairwoman, Ita Yuliati, said that she has briefed FIG president Morinari Watanabe about the decision and claimed “the FIG has expressed support”.
The gymnastics spat is the latest example of how the global backlash against Israel over the humanitarian toll of the war in Gaza has spread into the arenas of sports and culture.
Indonesia was stripped of hosting rights for football’s Under-20 World Cup in 2023, only two months before the start of the tournament, amid political turmoil regarding Israel’s participation.
Instead of disciplining Indonesia, FIFA awarded the country hosting rights to a different youth World Cup later that year, which Israel had not qualified for.
Indonesian football was seen to benefit from its leader Erick Thohir’s close ties with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who, like Thohir, is a member of the International Olympic Committee.

But Natasha Crown’s ‘before’ photos have now left the internet gobsmacked, with some crying at how “gorgeous” she was before going under the knifeCredit: Youtube/Truly
Natasha, who is 6’1 and describes herself as an “Amazon,” said she first realised she wanted a super-sized bum at the age of 17.
Three years later, she started her cosmetic journey from an “athletic teen to a curvy goddess.”
Now, Natasha has spent over $150,000 [£111,650] going under the knife and has had five Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL).

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a painful surgery where fat is taken from the stomach, lips, lower back, or thighs and transferred to the buttocks.
This results in an hourglass figure and a larger bum and can cost up to £8,000.
Not only is it expensive, but it is incredibly dangerous and has in some cases led to death.
But Natasha has no desire to stop surgeries any time soon, as she explained: “When I was 17, I saw a girl with a really big bum, and I was sold.
“I have added 100lbs [7stone 1lbs] to this big bum.
“I love having big curves. Everything needs to be big.
I’m 30 & have had 4 BBL’s – trolls say my bum looks like a wisdom tooth but I don’t care about the risks, I want curves
“I love surgery and I will keep going. I’m growing my bum to be over 100 inches.”
As well as five BBLs, Natasha, who is “famous” for her big bum and believes “the bigger the booty, the better,” has also had breast implants, Botox and fillers.
When I’m out, people stare. Online, people are mean, but it doesn’t affect me

But she doesn’t have any fears the impact of such procedures will have, as she added: “I don’t have any concerns about my health.”
Getting candid on the public’s reaction to her look, Natasha claimed that her “body shapescares men.”
What are the risks of getting surgery abroad?
IT’S important to do your research if you’re thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.
It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.
Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.
No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.
If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.
Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.
Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.

She continued: “When I’m out, people stare. Online, people are mean, but it doesn’t affect me.”
Discussing the reality of having such a large derrière, the content creator admitted: “Things that are difficult having this big butt – when I fly, I need to have two seats. I bump into people when I’m at restaurants.”
