Now photos show This Morning host Cat, 48, without her ring on her wedding finger.

The TV presenter has instead swapped it onto her right hand, in a nod to this new chapter of her life.

Cat was spotted without the bling on her left hand while stepping out to run errands in a very chic outfit.

She had a crisp white shirt on and denim jeans, and wore her hair down in loose waves.

The mum-of-two clutched onto her purse while out and about near the former couple’s marital home.

Cat looked sunkissed following her recent trip to Spain with a hairdresser pal.

The star was seen out for dinner with a male friend in Sitges, Spain on August 2 – just days after she and Patrick, 54, split.

Onlookers told the Daily Mail how the presenter looked “crestfallen” during the “difficult time”.

The snaps obtained by the publication show Cat without her wedding ring as she and hairdresser pal Ben Skervin tucked into dinner at restaurant Chiringuito de Garraf.

Patrick Kielty ‘didn’t feel like an equal partner’ in failed marriage to Cat Deeley – admitting ‘rough patches’ they had to work through

Ben is a celebrity hairstylist and has worked with the likes of the Spice Girls, Mariah Carey and Madonna

A fellow diner said: “Cat looked a bit down and a touch crestfallen, not her usual spritely self, which is understandable given her marriage split.

“Her accent was recognisable to a number of Brits at the restaurant, which is popular with celebrities, and she had interacted with a few British kids also dining there

“She clearly needed to be around her nearest and dearest during such a difficult time.”

Cat was a no-show at the funeral of Patrick’s mother in March, his family “knew the marriage was over”

One said: “Whatever rockiness was going on in the marriage, something as momentous as his mother’s funeral, you would make up even temporarily and just put your ‘best face’ on as we say in Northern Ireland.

“Cat obviously knew how close Patrick was to Mary and she should have come to be by his side, a hand on his shoulder as he buried his mother.

“The fact that she stayed in London and presented This Morning on the day, it’s not been forgotten.

At the time of Mary’s funeral, Cat insisted she’d stayed in London to be with their sons Milo, seven, and James, five.A spokesman for Cat told the Mail: “Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.”

Heartbreak for Jeff Bezos as his mother Jackie dies aged 78 following dementia battle just weeks after Venice wedding

JEFF Bezos is mourning the loss of his mother, Jacklyn “Jackie” Bezos, who has died at the age of 78.

The Bezos Family Foundation announced the news, revealing she passed away peacefully at her Miami home today.

While no cause of death was given, the Foundation said she was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2020.

In an emotional post, Jeff reflected on how his mom’s life as an adult began early, becoming a mother at just 17.

He said she “pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity,” later bringing his stepfather Mike into the family and expanding her love to his siblings Christina and Mark.

Bezos said her “list of people to love never stopped growing” and that she “always gave so much more than she ever asked for.”

He shared that after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, Jackie died surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and Mike.

“I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life,” he wrote, adding: “I hold her safe in my heart forever… I love you, mom.”

In a heartfelt tribute, the Foundation described Jackie as “the true meaning of grit and determination, kindness and service to others” — values she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

It praised her husband, Mike Bezos, for staying by her side “at every step” of her illness and thanked the healthcare team who cared for her.

Born December 29, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Jackie had Jeff at 17 with her first husband, Ted Jorgensen, before the couple split when Jeff was a toddler.

She later married Cuban immigrant Miguel “Mike” Bezos in 1968 — a lifelong partnership that lasted nearly six decades.

In 1995, the couple famously invested just under $250,000 into Jeff’s then-new venture, Amazon.

A devoted mother to Jeff, Christina, and Mark, Jackie juggled work, night school, and family life — making countless trips to Radio Shack for Jeff, supervising cheerleading practice for Christina, and hauling drums in the family station wagon for Mark.

She later earned her psychology degree at 45, proving, as the Foundation put it, “it’s never too late to follow your dreams.”

In 2000, she and Mike founded the Bezos Family Foundation, spearheading initiatives such as Vroom, which supports early childhood development, and the Bezos Scholars Program for students in the US and Africa.

She also played a major role in funding groundbreaking cancer research at Seattle’s Fred Hutch Cancer Center.

Her greatest joy, however, was family — particularly her 11 grandchildren, for whom she created “Camp Marmie,” a summer tradition of adventures, problem-solving, and laughter.

Jeff’s wife, Lauren Sánchez, re-shared the tribute on Instagram Stories with a broken heart emoji.

Jackie is survived by Mike, her children Jeff, Christina, and Mark, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The family is asking people to honor her memory by supporting a meaningful nonprofit or performing a simple act of kindness.

Don’t spend a fortune on wedding guest dresses – I found a stunning option is Asda for just £6, I’m 5ft3 & a size 12/14

A SAVVY shopper has bagged stunning wedding guest dresses from Asda for less than a tenner.

TikToker Christina Mitsi, who’s 5ft 3 and a size 12/14, headed to George at Asda in search of the perfect big-day look and found a whole rail of gorgeous dresses from just £6.

Don’t spend a fortune on wedding guest dresses - Asda has options for just £6, , https://www.tiktok.com/@christinatmitsi/video/7529189527513058582?_r=1&_t=ZN-8yg0Cd6waik

Her favourite set her back just £6Credit: Tiktok/ @christinatmitsi

And while you might expect the cheapest frock to look like a bargain bin disaster, she reckons it’s one of the best of the lot.

Among her top picks was a beautiful navy satin-style number – simple, elegant and with a stretchy back that made it “so comfy” to wear.

The dress only set her back £6.

She laughed: “Can you imagine turning up in that and everyone saying, ‘Your dress is gorgeous, where’s it from?’ and you say Asda, six quid.”

She also fell in love with a flowy green dress for £15.

For something a little more versatile, she tried a multi-way bridesmaid-style gown for £32, which can be tied and styled in several different ways.

“So affordable if you need matching dresses for your bridesmaids, this is a fantastic option,” she said.

Christina was seriously impressed with the quality, comfort and price of most of the range.

And with dresses starting at just £6, she says it’s the perfect excuse to splash out on a fancy handbag and heels instead.

“Why spend more when you can get a lovely dress for £15 or less?” she added.

Fans were just as impressed.

Kat Farmers new George at Asda Collection

One user said: “Wow, you look stunning.”

Another added: “Love – makes me want to buy it in case I ever get invited to a wedding”.

While a third said: “They all look gorgeous on you x”.

It came just days after another savvy fashionista showed off her £3 event dress she bagged from Asda’s clearance rail.

The bargain-hunter, @finchofautismlife took to TikTok to show off the stunning satin dress from George at Asda.

And fans were totally obsessed.

“You look stunning,” one viewer gushed.

Another said: “Wow, I love it, that dress is gorgeous!”

Last week, shoppers were sent into a frenzy over a sweet broderie anglaise white mini dress, reduced from £22 to just £15, with rave reviews calling it “classy”, “lightweight” and the “perfect fit”.

Others have gone wild for a £20 floral dress hailed as “perfect in every way” , ideal for summer weddings or garden parties, while a £12 leopard print denim shirt dress became a best-seller thanks to its comfy oversized fit and transitional style.

But the £3 event dress might just take the crown for the best fashion bargain yet.

So if you’re in the market for an affordable outfit that’ll turn heads without emptying your wallet, it might be worth swinging by your local Asda and checking the rails.

The buzz comes after Asda launched its first-ever stand-alone George store in Leeds earlier this year, which could be rolled out nationwide if it proves a hit.

The new store, which opened on Saturday, May 10, in the old Asda Living unit at Crown Point Retail Park, is a dream come true for George fans.

It’s packed with affordable fashion, stylish homeware, must-have toys, and adorable baby gear, plus a brand new café to keep you fuelled mid-shop.

There are currently 30 Asda Living stores in the UK, but the supermarket giant is testing the waters with this new George-only concept.

Bosses are expected to make a decision later this year on whether more will launch across the country.

The George brand, first launched in 1989 by fashion guru George Davies, changed the game as the UK’s first supermarket clothing label.

By 2004, it had become the nation’s biggest clothing retailer, and today it’s still going strong, racking up 260 million visits a year to its site and stocking shelves in 560 stores.

How to save at Asda

Shop the budget range

Savvy shopper Eilish Stout-Cairns recommends that shoppers grab items from Asda’s Just Essentials range.

She said: “Asda’s budget range is easy to spot as it’s bright yellow! Keep your eyes peeled for yellow and you’ll find their Just Essentials range.

“It’s great value and I’ve found it has a much wider selection of budget items compared to other supermarkets.

 Sign up to Asda Rewards

The savvy-saver also presses on the importance of signing up to Asda’s reward scheme.

She said: “Asda Rewards is free to join and if you shop at Asda you should absolutely sign up.

“As an Asda Rewards member, you’ll get exclusive discounts and offers, and you’ll also be able to earn 10% cashback on Star Products.

“This will go straight into your cashpot, and once you’ve earned at least £1, you can transfer the money in your cashpot into ASDA vouchers.

We’ve previously rounded up the best supermarket loyalty schemes – including the ones that will save you the most money.

Look out for booze deals

Eilish always suggests that shoppers looking to buy booze look out for bargain deals.

She said: “Asda often has an alcohol offer on: buy six bottles and save 25%.

“The offer includes selected bottles with red, white and rose options, as well as prosecco. There are usually lots of popular bottles included, for example, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot, Oyster Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot and Freixenet Prosecco D.O.C.

“Obviously, the more expensive the bottles you choose, the more you save.”

Join Facebook groups

The savvy saver also recommends that fans of Asda join Facebook groups to keep in the know about the latest bargains in-store.

Eilish said: “I recommend joining the Latest Deals Facebook Group to find out about the latest deals and new launches in store.

“Every day, more than 250,000 deal hunters share their latest bargain finds and new releases.

“For example, recently a member shared a picture of Asda’s new Barbie range spotted in store.

“Another member shared the bargain outdoor plants she picked up, including roses for 47p, blackcurrant bushes for 14p and topiary trees for 14p.”

Lucy Letby pictured laughing and dancing at wedding while on bail for murdering babies

A childhood friend of Lucy Letby has revealed the serial baby killer attended her wedding day while she was on police bail after being granted ‘special permission’ to go

A childhood friend of Lucy Letby made a shocking revelation after showing off pictures of the baby killer at her wedding – while she was on police bail.

Letby was first arrested in July of 2018 on suspicion of murdering eight babies. She was officially charged in November 2020 before being found guilty across two trials of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven more. Dawn Howe, who went to Aylestone Secondary School in Hereford with Letby, brought out a stash of photos during a new ITV documentary called Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt?

And some pictures showed Letby smiling and dancing at Dawn’s wedding, which took place while Cheshire Police investigated whether the neonatal nurse at Countess of Chester Hospital was possibly Britain’s most prolific child killer.

Speaking on the documentary, Dawn said: “Definitely got some holiday snaps, birthdays, holidays I’ve forgotten we even had. The wedding photos are definitely my favourite.”

Laughing, she added: “There is Lucy at my wedding. I am just so glad she could be there because it was while she was on bail, she had to get special permission to be allowed to come from the police.”

Lucy Letby

The shocking photo shows Letby, wearing a red top and grey skirt, beaming while others alongside her clap on the dance floor.

Another image shows a just-married Dawn walking past Letby, who is throwing confetti in the air.

Dawn and Lucy met as teenagers and reflecting on the wedding snaps, she said: “Shortly after this she was held in custody so… I don’t think Lucy has seen these.”

Speaking about how she reacted when her friend was arrested before her big day, she said: “I watched it all unfold every step of the way. I just couldn’t believe it. It was beyond belief that this could be happening.”

And later in the programme, Dawn features once again. She is seen driving to Letby’s former school, where they spent most of their adolescence together.

Out of their friendship group, she said Letby was the only one who had a clear career path, and during her A-levels, she was eager to one day “be a nurse and deal with really poorly babies”.

Lucy Letby
Dawn shared photos showing Letby at her special day (Image: ITV)

And speaking on camera, she said: “We were here and then university and then a few years after university is when she is supposed to have gone off on this killing spree…”

Dawn was working when Letby’s guilty verdict was announced in August 2023 and she described being “dumbfounded” when she heard the news.

Her immediate thought was what happened next. She remembered thinking: “She can’t just spend the rest of her life in prison.”

Lucy Letby
She is now serving 15 whole-life sentences (Image: PA)

Letby lost two attempts last year to challenge her convictions at the Court of Appeals. Her legal team meanwhile, led by barrister Mark McDonald, also submitted evidence from a panel of international experts to the Criminal Cases Review Commission in April, in an attempt to have her convictions overturned.

Dawn supported Letby throughout the trial and is continuing to do so now, but she said she felt guilt for being free while her friend was serving 15 whole-life sentences.

She concluded: “I am living a life Lucy should be living beside me in parallel. We should both be having families and we both bought our houses and we were looking forward to the next chapter of our lives and then all this happened.

Lucy Letby adn Dawn Howe

“It is just… there is so much guilt that I am sort of living a life that Lucy should also be living.”

Cheshire Police were contacted regarding claims made in this story but they chose not to comment.

Lucy Letby: Beyond Reasonable Doubt? will air on ITV1 at 10.20pm on Sunday August 3.

Coronation Street wedding day interrupted by horror collapse as death ‘sealed’

Love is in the air for Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter on Coronation Street – but a burglary, debauched behaviour, and a medical emergency risk ruining their big day

Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter are set to marry on Coronation Street this week
Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter are set to marry on Coronation Street this week

It is wedding season on Coronation Street – and Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter are set to tie the knot with a lavish ceremony. But as fans of the long-running ITV continuing drama will know – happiness rarely runs smooth in the world of soaps.

Dev, played by Jimmi Harkishin, has been living on the Cobbles since 1999 and married Sunita Alahan, played by Shobna Gulati, in 2004 – before she was killed off in 2013, surviving the Rover’s fire only to be murdered by arsonist Karl Munro, played by John Michie. Fans may be hoping Dev has a happier second marriage.

And he is set to swap vows with Bernie, played by Jane Hazlegrove, in scenes this coming week. The pair have been an on-screen item since September last year – growing close after the death of Bernie’s son, Paul.

After enduring a brief split, the pair will become husband and wife – if they can survive a series of dramas. Stag party shenanigans, a burglary, a surprise proposal, a shock collapse and a hospital dash midway through the ceremony all look to cause havoc with the wedding plans.

Fans tuning in at the start of the week will see Dev and Bernie embracing the last of their single lives as they celebrate their stag and hen parties. But when Bernie learns Dev and the boys have hired a pole dancer to join them at the Rovers, she is not best pleased.

With the ceremony set to appear on Wednesday’s episode, trials face the couple as some guests fall ill and have to watch via a live stream. Bernie’s emotions run wild when she forgets her lucky charm locket that contains a photo of late son, Paul – and disaster strikes when she runs home to retrieve it only to find a burglar in her house.

While the big day is supposed to be all about Dev and Bernie, Debbie Webster steals some attention for herself when she gets down on one knee to propose to Ronnie. And fans will need to wait to find out if Bernie even makes it down the aisle – as she collapses in front of Dev, leaving him scared for the life of his bride.

The Corrie cast have been discussing all the highs and lows of the wedding day plans. Bernie actress Jane, 57, laughs: “The day goes from bad to worse!

But disaster strikes on the cobbles before the couple can say ‘I do’(Image: ITV)

“That’s what is so brilliant about Coronation Street, you don’t know what you’re going to get until you open the page of the script and that’s what is so fantastic about how it plays out – we’ve got this woman raving down the aisle and the next minute she’s collapsed and an ambulance is on its way!”

Jane also revealed that she had a hand in the design of Bernie’s wedding dress.

She revealed: “I knew that Bernie wouldn’t go down the road of wearing a traditional dress. I had seen some old footage of Elkie Brookes on TV and she was wearing a kaftan.

“I am a big fan of Elkie so that was the initial inspiration, but this is for Bernie so it needed to be a bit extra. Our fantastic talented costume department came up with the 1970s style white dress that is a bit Elkie Brookes, a bit Demis Roussos and very Bernie Winter.”

Fans can see all the drama unfold as Coronation Street airs this week on ITV1 and via ITVX on Monday at 8pm, Wednesday at 8pm, and Friday at 8pm.

Protesters flood Venice’s streets during Amazon founder Bezos’s wedding | Protests News

Protesters denounced the Amazon billionaire’s multimillion-dollar wedding in Venice as the city deals with environmental concerns.

Hundreds of protesters marched through Venice to say “no” to Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos’s wedding on its third day of a multimillion-dollar celebration.

The world’s fourth-richest man, Bezos, and his bride, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, got married in a private ceremony on Friday with about 200 celebrity guests on the secluded island of San Giorgio.

But before the final party on Saturday evening as part of a three-day wedding event, protesters filled Venice’s central streets and held banners that read “Kisses Yes, Bezos No” and “No Bezos, no War”.

Another poster read: “The planet is burning, but don’t worry, here’s the list of the 27 dresses of Lauren Sanchez.”

For the past few days, residents have protested across the city over what they have said is anger as Venice suffers from over-tourism, high housing costs and the constant threat of climate-induced flooding.

Martina Vergnano, one of the demonstrators, said they were here to “continue ruining the plans of these rich people, who accumulate money by exploiting many other people … while the conditions of this city remain precarious”.

According to the Venetian Environmental Research Association, Bezos donated 1 million euros ($1.17m) each to three environmental research organisations working to preserve Venice.

Flavio Cogo, a resident who also joined Saturday’s protest, said they want a “free Venice, which is finally dedicated to its citizens”.

“Those donations are just a misery and only aimed at clearing Bezos’ conscience,” Cogo said.

Venetian businesses and political leaders welcomed the wedding, despite the protests, and hailed it as a significant economic boost.

Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said those protesting were “in contradiction with the history of Venice, which is a history of relations, contacts and business”.

“Bezos embodies the Venetian mentality. He is more Venetian than the protesters,” said the centre-right mayor, adding that he hoped Bezos would return to the city to do business.

Reality stars, actors, royals and a whole host of A-listers have travelled to Venice for the lavish wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and TV presenter Lauren Sanchez.

Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom, Kylie Jenner and Ivanka Trump were just some of the celebrities seen on the boats and streets of the Italian city on Thursday and Friday.

The festivities are expected to last three days, ending with a large party for the married couple and their hundreds of guests on Saturday.

The event has attracted protests from a variety of groups in Venice, including locals fighting over-tourism to climate change activists.

Sanchez, 55, wore a lace Dolce & Gabbana haute couture gown for the wedding – she was seen smiling alongside a jubilant Bezos, 61, after the ceremony, in a picture posted on Instagram.

An estimated 200 people were invited to Friday’s ceremony on the small island of San Giorgio, where Matteo Bocelli – son of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli – reportedly performed.

While the exact cost of the wedding is not known, estimates range from $20m (£14m) to more than $50m.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez get married: What to know about wedding

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are officially husband and wife.

The Amazon founder, who’s been linked to Sánchez since 2019, hosted an extravagant, reportedly $50-million celebration in Venice, Italy, stretching three days. From the lavish location to the celebrity guest list, the event has attracted a media frenzy, but also experienced its fair share of hiccups — including a last-minute venue change to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Here’s what we know about the wedding so far.

The wedding dress

Sánchez opted for a custom Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown inspired by Sophia Loren’s gown in the 1958 film “Houseboat.” This marks the first time Sánchez has worn such a high-necked formal dress, she told Vogue.

“It is a departure from what people expect,” she said, “from what I expect — but it’s very much me.”

The bride shared two images of her dress Friday on Instagram, where she also updated her handle to @laurensanchezbezos.

Other ensembles planned for the big day were a corseted gown inspired by the Rita Hayworth film “Gilda” and an Oscar de la Renta cocktail dress with 175,000 crystals, according to Vogue.

Something Blue Origin

Sánchez’s “something borrowed” was a pair of Dolce & Gabbana Alta Gioielleria Miracolo earrings, according to Vogue. And her “something blue,” she revealed, was a souvenir she brought on her controversial 11-minute Blue Origin spaceflight.

“It was literally one of the most profound experiences I’ve ever had in my life,” she told Vogue. “Jeff said, ‘It’s gonna change you more than you think,’ and it completely has, visually, spiritually.”

A star-studded guest list

As expected, several A-listers made the 200-person guest list.

Notably, Orlando Bloom arrived solo after reportedly ending his engagement with Katy Perry. Sánchez seemed to acknowledge Perry’s absence, commenting, “We miss you Katy,” Friday on the pop star’s Instagram. Perry famously joined Sánchez on the Blue Origin space flight and has received a disproportionate amount of the criticism.

Though President Trump was not present (despite reports that he received an invitation), his daughter Ivanka Trump and Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, were in attendance, along with in-laws Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner.

Other celebrities in attendance were Kim and Khloé Kardashian; Kris, Kylie and Kendall Jenner; Bill Gates and Paula Hurd; Sydney Sweeney; Tom Brady; Leonardo DiCaprio; Usher; Eva Longoria and José Bastón; Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller; Oprah Winfrey; and Gayle King, who was also aboard the Blue Origin spaceflight.

Protests and criticism

The lavish celebration was not without its critics. The No Space for Bezos movement — a combination of anti-cruise ship campaigners, university groups and housing advocates — staged protests throughout Venice leading up to the event, even planning to obstruct canal access to prevent wedding guests from reaching the venue, according to the Associated Press. The newlyweds reportedly had to make an eleventh hour venue change, opting for the more secluded and secure Arsenale for the Saturday reception, according to local media.

‘When Calls the Heart’s’ Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum get married

In true Hallmark fashion, “When Calls the Heart” co-stars Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum found love on set. Now, the two are officially married.

The newlyweds, who have appeared in the period drama since the show premiered in 2014, confirmed their union Monday with a joint Instagram post of photos from their wedding, captioned with a simple infinity symbol.

Krakow, 40, and Rosenbaum, 38, first sparked romance rumors in 2023 when Krakow revealed on Instagram that they had adopted a dog, Willoughby, together. But it wasn’t until a year later that the two confirmed their relationship on Valentine’s Day.

The actors, who have kept their relationship relatively private, surprised fans with news of their nuptials.

“Y’all dropped a whole wedding like it was a Tuesday fit check,” one social media user commented. “Plot twist of the year!!”

But this isn’t the first marriage to come out of “When Calls the Heart.” Last September, co-stars Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace also wed.

“I’m still crying. My favorite pairing!” Wallace commented on Krakow and Rosenbaum’s post, adding wine and cheese emojis.

“Beautiful pictures, beautiful friends, beautiful husband and wife – xo,” McGarry wrote.

“When Calls the Heart” is Hallmark Channel’s longest-running original series and was recently renewed for a 13th season, scheduled to premiere in 2026. The release date has not yet been announced. Krakow stars as Elizabeth Thornton (and also serves as an executive producer) and Rosenbaum plays Mike Hickam on the popular western.

Bezos-Sanchez wedding worries: Blockades, yacht parking

Be glad you’re not Jeff Bezos or Lauren Sánchez. Sure, being that rich would be awesome, but being rich comes with rich-people problems. With their Italian wedding imminent, they have a host of things to worry about that would never cross the imaginations of other, more average couples who don’t have 12 digits representing their net worth.

Most details of the Venice fête are being kept close to the vest. A couple of local companies have confirmed they are contributing handcrafted glassware and local pastries to the wedding-favor goodie bags. Some guests’ names leaked when the invites went out in March (we name-drop below, never fear).

But a few details that might be quite vexing to the bride and groom are playing out in public. Let’s take a look.

Your destination wedding’s destination might hate you

All of Venice may not truly be ticked off, but photos, activists and media coverage make it seem that way.

Venice teacher and activist Marta Sottoriva called the wedding “the symbol of all that is wrong with Venice.”

“There’s a lot of anger in the air because once again the council has enslaved itself to the logic of profit — our city has been sold to the highest bidder,” she told the Guardian. “Every time an event of this kind happens, the city comes to a standstill, certain areas become inaccessible and even more tourists arrive.” (Venice has been really annoyed lately by its number of tourists, kind of like the Louvre is really annoyed.)

But tourism councilor Simone Venturini was shocked that anyone might be upset that such a high-profile event was happening in the city.

“We should all be proud that the Bezos wedding, an event of international importance, is being held in the waters of our lagoon,” he told the Guardian. “Instead, the usual protest professionals have wasted no time. We want to reiterate that Venice is open to everyone.”

Venturini was more colorful in speaking to the Wall Street Journal, saying, “If Bezos’ wedding goes ahead as planned, without these pain-in-the-ass protests, Venetian citizens won’t even notice.”

The couple’s London-based wedding planners, Lanza & Baucina, told CNN in a statement, “Rumors of ‘taking over’ the city are entirely false and diametrically opposed to our goals and to reality.” They and the client, the planners said, wanted to minimize any disruption to the city.

That said, it’s impossible to get a reservation this week at the Aman Venice, the nearly 500-year-old hotel on the Grand Canal where the happy couple are rumored to be staying, at least for part of their wedding week, along with a host of wedding guests. The place is fully booked through Sunday, per TMZ, at a reported $2,000 to $10,000 a night per room.

Protests could really screw things up

Forget throwing soup on the “Mona Lisa” — the Bezos wedding protesters might do something truly offensive: They are threatening to screw up traffic on the big day.

“Bezos will never get to the Misericordia [event space],” activist Federica Toninello told an appreciative crowd last week, according to CNN. “We will block the canals, line the streets with our bodies, block the canals with inflatables, dinghies, boats.”

Having just learned what the Misericordia is, we have no idea what role the location might play in the nuptials, but it looks like a nice enough spot for a reception. Fondazione Giorgio Cini, a cultural center built in 1951, has also been floated as a wedding venue. But let’s get back to the blockades and such.

Another speaker at that same rally said she didn’t want Venice remembered as a beautiful wedding venue but “as the city that did not bend to oligarchs.”

“We can’t miss a chance to disrupt a $10-million wedding,” Na Haby Stella Faye said — because, really, how often does that chance come around? Although her goal stated at the rally was “to stop this wedding,” in her Instagram stories Monday, she was promoting a planned Saturday protest of Bezos, President Trump and, well, war.

Less aggressive protests include a host of banners and “No Space for Bezos” posters that have been hung around the city. A colossal message from Greenpeace to Bezos was laid out Monday in the Piazza San Marco. The square banner, which read “IF YOU CAN RENT VENICE FOR YOUR WEDDING YOU CAN PAY MORE TAX,” was quickly folded up and carried away by local cops, the Associated Press reported.

“It’s absurd to treat this city like it’s Disneyland,” said Grazia Satta, a retired teacher and social worker, per the Wall Street Journal. “The message this wedding sends is that rich people can do whatever they want. We shouldn’t kneel before wealth like this.”

By Monday, Bezos’ security team was making last-minute changes to try to outsmart the activists, according to TMZ. Even the water-taxi companies are being “kept in the dark,” the site said, and if the water taxis don’t know what’s going on, who really does?

Perhaps Bezos could tap that $212-billion bank account and enlist a Prime Delivery person to drop off himself and his bride discreetly at their reception? Though the human-size Amazon box could be a dead giveaway.

Whose yacht is biggest — and where will they park?

Yes, we know yachts don’t “park,” they drop anchor. But no matter what you call it, the biggest yachts can’t drop anchor in all parts of Venice.

One wedding theory has held that Bezos and Sánchez will exchange their vows on his 417-foot yacht, the Koru, where he proposed to her two years ago after five years of dating. But reported plans to dock the yacht in a lagoon might have changed. Apparently the close-to-shore concept is starting to look like a safety hazard due to those threatened protests of the second-richest man in the world.

The Koru is far from the only big boat floating around town, mind you. Venice has nine “yacht ports,” all of which have been booked for the wedding week. Apparently, TMZ reported, noncelebrity billionaire yacht owners are altering their Venice vacation plans to avoid the crush. That has to sting.

Fortunately, although the yacht situation is fluid and the airspace over Venice is closed, CNN reported that private helicopters are being given a pass, in case a head of state decides to chopper in. As one does.

One type of watercraft not involved in the festivities? Gondolas, or at least those piloted by people the WSJ talked to. “We are too slow,” one gondolier lamented.

International events might affect the guest list

President Trump reportedly scored an invitation to the wedding. Unclear if a plus-one for Melania was included. However, the commander in chief is a wee bit busy handling world events these days — hard to tell if he will be able to get away, even for a gala event like this one. Aren’t destination weddings the worst? So inconvenient.

That said, Ivanka Trump and hubby Jared Kushner reportedly got invited too, along with Jared’s brother Joshua Kushner and model wife Karlie Kloss. So the first family might be represented after all. And who knows, POTUS could swing by. Does Marine One count as a “private” helicopter?

Others on the guest list, per TMZ, include Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Bill Gates, singer Jewel, Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Barbra Streisand, Eva Longoria, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Brian Grazer, Barry Diller, Diane von Furstenberg, models Brooks Nader and Camila Morrone, and Queen Rania of Jordan. Perry won’t attend, though, because she’s on tour.

Aaron Rodgers reveals secret wedding on his first day with Pittsburgh Steelers

New Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has revealed he had a secret wedding earlier this year.

The NFL’s four-time Most Valuable Player spent months contemplating his future before deciding to sign a one-year deal with the Steelers.

Rodgers signed his contract on Saturday and in a picture posted by the team on social media,, external he had a black band on his wedding ring finger.

The 41-year-old held a news conference on Tuesday after spending his first day training with the Steelers and one of the last questions was about the ring.

“Yeah, it’s a wedding ring,” said Rodgers.

Asked how long he’s been married, he added: “It’s been a couple of months.”

Rodgers was released after a disappointing second season with the New York Jets, becoming a free agent for the first time in his 20-year career.

He had visited the Steelers and reportedly received an offer from the New York Giants, but in April, Rodgers said that he was “open to anything”, including retirement.

The 2011 Super Bowl winner previously said that he delayed his decision because of personal reasons and, earlier in Tuesday’s news conference, he said: “I was dealing with a lot of things in my personal life.

“Some things improved a little bit, where I felt like I could fully be all in here with the guys.

“I didn’t want to short-change the guys and be signed but be elsewhere mentally or physically. Until I could be here and be all in, I needed to take care of my business.”

NICK Knowles’ new wife Katie has shared some new photos from this wedding – and she’s already changed her name on Instagram.

Nick, 62, and Katie, 34, said ‘I do’ in the same venue where Rylan Clark married ex-husband Dan Neal in 2015.

The DIY SOS star and the mum-of-two were all smiles as they posed outside the country house, with the bride showing off her chic style in a stunning blue and white gown.

And they’ve given fans a glimpse into their big day and were seen enjoying their first slow dance together after exchanging vows at Braxted Park in Essex.

Now, Katie, who has already changed her surname to Knowles on social media, has shared a string of stunning photos from inside their big day.

She penned to her 90,000 followers: “When you marry your soulmate.”

Katie shared photos of her and Nick hugging on the dance floor, as well as some beautiful black and white images of them cutting their three-tiered wedding cake.

She also posted sweet polaroid snaps with family and friends, and a fun photo of her and Nick posed in playful costumes against a floral backdrop.

Fans flooded the comments with messages of congratulations.

One person wrote: “Congratulations to you both Katie and Nick I’m happy for you both,” and a second added: “Gorgeous .. wishing you all happiness in the world.”

A third said: “Looks like you had the perfect day even though the buried sausage didn’t work,” referring to the rainy weather.

Nick Knowles and wife Katie Dadzie show off their dance moves on wedding night

Fans also loved watching clips of the couple’s first dance.

DIY SOS presenter Nick was decked out in his pink jacket while lingerie boss Katie sported her elegant blue floral gown as they swayed and gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes.

Even the joker Nick couldn’t resist having a laugh and busted out some twerking at the end while Katie jokingly shook her head.

Katie then did an outfit change and slipped into a white mini dress with match trainers and a glittery hat.

Nick clearly liked what he saw, removing his jacket and spinning it around over his head.

And despite having to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing due to injury last year, Nick proved he’s still got the moves as he spun his wife around the floor.

Later the pair let their hair down further by downing shots with their pals.

There was also lots of entertainment for guests, with a carnival dancer taking to the stage at one point.

Later, a band performed songs for the merry crowd.

Nick and Katie spared no expense on the big day, which is rumoured to have cost six figures.

Amy Childs’ concerned pals work out real reason she’s called off wedding

TOWIE star Amy Childs’ friends are worried about her relationship after she postponed her wedding to fiancé Billy Delbosq for the second time

Amy Childs has left friends and fans worried after calling off her wedding to fiancé Billy Delbosq for the second time, sparking rumours of relationship troubles among those who are close to her. The former beautician, who shot to fame on The Only Way Is Essex nearly 15 years ago, became a household name thanks to her larger-than-life personality — and introducing the public to the concept of ‘vajazzling’.

After a romantic past full of ups and downs, Amy, 34, seemed to have finally found lasting love with Billy, a fellow reality star who once appeared on Channel 4 ’s First Dates. The couple got engaged in 2023 after welcoming twins Billy River and Amelia Mae.

Amy Childs and her fiancé Billy Delbosq
Friends have expressed their concerns about Amy Childs’ relationship after she postponed her wedding for the second time(Image: @amychilds1990/Instagram)

But last month she postponed their wedding again, after already delaying it last year over doubts about whether Billy was truly ready to tie the knot.

This latest cancellation has caused speculation that not all is well in their relationship. Friends close to the couple have voiced their fears, with one source telling the Daily Mail : “Billy has always been a player. He’s one of the biggest players in Essex…now there are fears that all is not well, that something could have happened between them.”

Fuel was added to the fire when Amy was spotted in Brentwood looking visibly thinner and not wearing her engagement ring. However, another source close to the couple insisted the pair are still going strong, and suggested she only removed the ring to work out.

In the paparazzi snaps that sparked concern, she was indeed dressed in gym gear. However, Amy and Billy were also seen at Stansted Airport on Thursday while en route to Spain for TOWIE filming, looking “preoccupied and unsmiling”. One pal admitted: “They usually seem so happy together. This time they looked really down in the dumps, neither particularly looked like they wanted to be there.”

Behind the scenes, Amy has been privately coping with a family crisis. She recently told The Mirror that her mum Julie, who has also made appearances on TOWIE, suffered from a heart attack in April and had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.

She added: “It has been intensely stressful. None of us was expecting Mum to have a heart attack – it turned our world upside down.

“It was so frightening. She had a stent put in and was in hospital for six days. She’s now home but she’s being monitored daily and is on a lot of medication. It’s so tough for her – she sometimes struggles to walk upstairs.”

Amy and Billy made the difficult decision to postpone their September wedding at Cliveden House in Berkshire. The TOWIE star explained: “It’s upsetting, but I know we’ve made the right decision. Right now, we’re focused on looking after Mum.”

In response to the online abuse over her weight loss, Amy hit back, saying: “People don’t know what is going on behind closed doors…To be honest I do feel better when I’m a bit heavier than I am at the moment. There’s so much going on – it’s the result of pure stress.”

Despite facing these heart breaking family challenges, Amy is still hopeful that her and Billy will be able to get married abroad next year, and have planned for their kids to play a special role in the wedding. She concluded: “We just want it to be amazing, not rushed.”

I was fuming when I found out why my family hadn’t RSVP-ed to my wedding – now they’re uninvited for being so petty

A WOMAN has threatened to “uninvite” two family members from her wedding after they complained about the menu choices.

Stef explained that her sister had contacted their relatives to ask why they hadn’t received an RSVP back from them for the nuptials.

And when she did so, she found out the bizarre reason they’d delayed their response to the invite – despite the fact they insisted they were coming.

“I know they’ll be there, but I need to know their food options,” she said in a TikTok video.

“And the reason they gave for not RSVPing was there’s no fish on the menu!”

She said that she and her husband-to-be had given their guests a meat choice or a vegetarian choice for both the starter and the main course.

“If you don’t like the meat, then you can have a really lovely Parmigiana aubergine gnocchi,” she added.

“It’s amazing!”

Not only that, but the two family members actually eat meat.

“So my sister was like, ‘Right, okay, so you’re not gonna come to the wedding because there’s no fish on the menu?'” Stef continued.

“And they were like, ‘No, no, no, of course we’re gonna come, we just don’t really know what to say’.”

And when her sister asked the relatives whether or not they could eat either the vegetarian or meat option, they said they could, but “just really wanted fish”.

Watch the moment wedding guest couple get slammed as ‘tacky’ as he gets down to propose right in front of the bride who has no idea is was going to happen

“Are you f**king joking?” Stef raged.

“I’m sorry, but my wedding is not a restaurant.

“You don’t get a full menu, you don’t get to choose from 10 different options.”

In addition, it would cost Stef an extra £10 per person to provide a meat, vegetarian AND fish option, as she noted: “It’s a 160 person wedding.

“I don’t f**king think so.

“My wedding is a two day event. You’re getting two lots of breakfast from me.

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

  • Food – £6,000
  • Honeymoon – £4,329
  • Wedding outfits – £3,500
  • Entertainment – £2,000
  • Engagement ring – £1,948
  • Flowers – £1,110
  • Wedding ring – £1,000
  • Wedding transport – £700

Total = £20,587

“You’re getting a rehearsal dinner. You’re getting your wedding breakfast.

“You’re getting a pizza from the night of the wedding. I think you’re doing all right.

“It’s a free bar. Sit back and enjoy yourself.”

When the pair admitted the reason they hadn’t wanted to RSVP was because of the menu, Stef’s sister told them: “If you don’t like the food choices, then go f**k yourself”.

“Couldn’t agree more,” she added.

Sharing the tale on TikTok, Stef wrote: “Please tell me I’m not the only other person experiencing this level of crazy around their wedding?!”

People quickly obliged by sharing their own shocking stories in the comments section.

“Literally lost family members who threatened to not attend so I told them not to,” one said.

“Then a ‘friend’ said she’s not coming to my hen now because she had a disagreement over money with my maid of honour!”

“What is up with people and fish?!” another exclaimed.

“I was told I HAD to give a fish option. Excuse me. I hate fish so I give a fish option that means I the bride don’t have a choice on the day?”

“People are unhinged!” a third sighed

“We got married in Feb and some of the comments we got! The worst were from immediate family!!

“One moaned about the FREE wine choices on the table… don’t drink it!!”

Fortune Feimster, Jax Smith are getting a divorce

Fortune Feimster and her wife of five years, Jacquelyn “Jax” Smith, are divorcing, the former couple posted Monday on social media.

“Together, we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage,” they wrote in a statement posted on their Instagram accounts. “We’ve been separated for a little bit, both of us dealing with tough health situations in our families, so it wasn’t something we were ready to talk about.”

They continued, “While we are sad to see this chapter of our lives come to a close, we wish each other nothing but the best as we move forward. We’ve had 10 years together, and there’s so much to celebrate about that and so much we will look back on fondly.”

“The Mindy Project” actor, a Groundlings veteran, requested privacy in the wake of the news.

Smith was a kindergarten teacher and later joined Feimster’s creative team, executive producing three of her comedy specials, “Sweet & Salty” in 2020, “Good Fortune” in 2022 and “Crushing It” in 2024. The two met at a 2015 Pride event in Chicago, dated long distance for a few years, got engaged in 2018 and married in a small ceremony during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The women’s families attended the wedding via Zoom.

“I want people to know me and Jax are like everybody else,” the 44-year-old comedian told People in October 2022. “We happen to be gay but our story is not much different from other people’s. … You don’t have to be gay to relate to an engagement story.”

Divorce? Definitely — albeit unfortunately — relatable.

Feimster credits Chelsea Handler with launching her career as a writer-performer-standup comedian. She is credited as a writer on almost 600 episodes of “Chelsea Lately” between 2011 and 2014.

“She was putting people on TV that no one else was putting on TV,” Feimster told The Times in 2023, “and not really caring if you fit the mold of who should be on TV. … She was the first person who gave me the ‘yes’ when everyone was telling me ‘no.’”

No Wedding Bell Blues for Gay Couples

On the day that the U.S. Senate publicly spurned gay and lesbian activists, Helen and Tina Stiefmiller straggled home from their jobs, exchanged embraces and office news and began the usual litany of domestic chores and pastimes.

Over a dinner of takeout chicken, they discussed an unexpected plumbing problem and its impact on the household budget. They agreed to spend the weekend fishing with Tina’s mother and stepfather at a nearby lake. They watched a television documentary about one of Helen’s personal and professional passions: Native Americans. As Helen patiently sewed beading onto a Native American doll outfit, Tina mused happily about the prospect of the two raising children together.

Only hours before, the Senate had narrowly defeated a bill that would have made it illegal for most employers to discriminate against gay men and lesbians. And in an even more resounding message to homosexuals, the upper chamber overwhelmingly approved the Defense of Marriage Act. The legislation, which President Clinton signed into law early Saturday morning, would allow states to disregard gay and lesbian marriages performed in other states. It defines marriage, for federal purposes, as a union between a man and a woman.

On the floor of the Senate, lawmakers had brandished Bibles, invoked historians, cited legal scholars and thundered about the sanctity of heterosexual marriage, the preconditions of the nation’s greatness and the responsibilities of lawmakers to preserve and protect the traditional family.

But for Tina and Helen, the Senate’s rhetoric, the subsequent votes and Clinton’s signature are strangely irrelevant. Three years ago this November, the Stiefmillers legally merged their names (from Tina Stief and Helen Miller), exchanged matching rings and recited vows of commitment in a ceremony attended by 300 guests. Today, the couple look forward to the possibility that Helen could be pregnant as a result of a donor-insemination procedure that she underwent only days before the Sept. 10 Senate vote on the marriage measure.

“In many ways it hasn’t changed anything,” Tina said of the measure. “I didn’t lose the right to legally marry because I didn’t have it before. We’ve known all along that if we waited for some type of societal or governmental recognition of our marriage, we might never be married. For us, regardless of what the Senate does, we’ve made those vows; we’re married.”

In places such as Oklahoma City, where homosexuals are a quiet presence rather than a political force, gay and lesbian couples took the news with a measure of both resignation and equanimity. For now, about the best they can hope for is that the Defense of Marriage Act is but a temporary setback in the gradual assimilation of same-sex couples into mainstream culture.

Judging from the experiences of same-sex partners here in America’s heartland, that process is proceeding with or without the nation’s political consent.

“History is very helpful to me in this: I don’t know of any social-change movement that hasn’t had some losses,” Tina said after the vote. “People keep trying–they get knocked back, and they get up and keep going. I can look at the struggles of lots of groups and know that nobody ever had immediate success.

“I want to be a happy person, have a fulfilling relationship, have children,” she continued. “So I’m going to go ahead and do those things regardless.”

Helen and Tina are products of the heartland, and they want all of the heartland stuff–the marriage, the kids, the white picket fence. Long after the years of car-pooling and soccer games and PTA are over, the Stiefmillers envision their lives together in retirement: an RV and a fishing boat, a garden and kids–lots of grandkids–to complete and carry on their family.

“In 30 years, when we’re still together, maybe we’ll be role models for straight and gay couples,” said Helen, 33, a museum curator and historian in Guthrie, Okla. By then, she added hopefully, “we’ll be obsolete as activists.”

Enactment of the Defense of Marriage Act ensures that, for the foreseeable future, Tina will get no health insurance through Helen’s state-funded job. It means that there will be no implicit understanding about inheritance and no legal certainty that each woman could make medical decisions for the other in an emergency. If the law stands, it mandates that neither will have a right to survivor benefits accrued by her mate during a lifetime of work.

As the nation’s tolerance of gays and lesbians has increased over time, activists had hoped, at least, for these things. More subtly, they have longed for the acceptance into mainstream American life that they believe legal recognition would bring.

That is something that even the defeat of the Defense of Marriage Act could not have given them. But its approval is a stark reminder of how far from that goal they are.

“Some people are very frightened by us, and I’ve yet to figure it out,” said Jack Wozniak, a 44-year-old Oklahoma City resident. He and partner Don Hanks, who have been together for 13 years, celebrated their relationship six years ago in a garden ceremony that brought family and friends together.

“I forget,” Wozniak said. “I’m so fortunate in my life, my work situation, my circle of friends.

“I forget that it’s an issue with people, that there are people who hate me or are frightened by me,” he said. “And when something like this happens, it’s like I’m looking at it all over again for the first time.”

Wozniak, managing editor of the Gayly Oklahoman, a weekly newspaper for gays and lesbians, sees the gay-marriage issue as a simple matter of civil rights.

“We should be able to use the same terms for our relationships that everybody else uses for theirs,” he said. “If we accept another term for the same thing, we’re separating ourselves. And we all know that separate-but-equal doesn’t work.”

*

Since the introduction of the Defense of Marriage Act four months ago, gay and lesbian activists have watched, disheartened, as it moved steadily toward becoming law. In July, the measure won approval in the House on a 342-67 vote, with almost two-thirds of Democrats voting in favor. It was approved by the Senate on an equally lopsided 85-14 vote. As he signed the bill at 12:50 a.m. EDT Saturday, Clinton noted that he has always opposed legal recognition of same-sex unions.

The legislative success of the Defense of Marriage Act owes much to the American public’s deep discomfort with same-sex marriage. In a poll conducted for Newsweek magazine in May, 58% of respondents said they opposed extending legal recognition to such unions, while just 33% approved of such state recognition. About 44% agreed with the argument made by the bill’s authors that legal recognition of gay marriage would undermine traditional marriage between heterosexuals.

Supporters of the legislation said it is needed because a Hawaii Supreme Court case threatens to redefine marriage throughout the nation. Still awaiting final resolution, the Hawaii ruling tentatively concluded that to deny gay and lesbian couples marital rights would be discriminatory and contrary to the state’s constitution. If the court ultimately holds that same-sex marriages are allowable, other states might have been obliged to honor such unions performed in Hawaii. The Defense of Marriage Act states that no state is required to recognize homosexual marriages performed outside their borders.

*

In places such as Oklahoma City, where gay men and lesbians live and work and form couples against a backdrop of conservative values, the Hawaii case has encouraged longings that many had never dared entertain before.

“I never considered marriage a possibility in my life–it was never going to happen,” Wozniak said. “All of the discussion about marriage now has made me excited about it, and I’ve really become adamant about it. I not only want it, I damn well want it. Because now there’s a glimmer of hope. Now we might be able to be accepted.”

Some gay and lesbian activists have argued that the Defense of Marriage Act is not an issue on which the homosexual community should make its stand, but others say it is a fight from which they cannot walk away.

The right to marry–and to have one’s commitment recognized by the state–is a right too fundamental, they say, to be subject to further compromise. And the respect they hope that right would bring is a hope too cherished now to give up.

“You have to do it,” said John Doneti, a 33-year-old Oklahoma City social worker who considers himself married to 36-year-old Terry Dennison. “You have to wake up and yell and scream and fight and fight. You may get set a of couple steps back in the process, but you have to do it.”

Doneti and Dennison send each other red roses on the anniversary of their first date. They have been together since that date 12 years ago. While the two have made no public commitments to each other, they are so much a couple that they have outlasted many straight friends’ unions. They often cannot agree on where to go out to dinner when neither wants to cook, but they have an agreed tiebreaker– a friendly neighborhood restaurant–when the bickering threatens to become too intense. They have an uneasy truce over who mows the lawn (John) and who does the laundry and cleans the kitchen and bathroom (Terry).

In their quiet, tree-lined neighborhood, straight neighbors lounge with them on the hood of their car on languid summer weekends, sharing neighborhood gossip. An elderly neighbor gratefully accepts Doneti’s offer to mow her lawn and clear the ravenous bagworms, sending over a pot-roast dinner in appreciation.

In the Stiefmillers’ neighborhood, 79-year-old retiree Dale Webster used to amble off his front porch every now and then and, in a grandfatherly way, ask Tina and Helen when they were going to go off and get married. He did not, of course, mean to each other.

*

As the women’s relationship became more evident, Webster halted the misguided inquiries. But he and his wife, Wanda, have remained friendly. Wanda, who is 69, declines to comment on the Stiefmillers’ lifestyle. But she volunteers that she and her husband “get a kick out of them” as the two “buddies” come and go on their camping trips, play with their dogs and tend the garden between their houses. Helen regularly mows the Websters’ lawn, Wanda noted. “They’re very good neighbors,” she said.

Doneti sees such acceptance as a measure of progress. But the overwhelming popularity of the Defense of Marriage Act bears witness to the difficulties still facing gays and lesbians in their battle for acceptance.

“You’ll know we have arrived,” Doneti said, “when gay people can live in suburbia and just be people–not the two fags, but the couple down the street.”
