The new Netflix film features a familiar face from one of the streamer’s biggest shows, as well as a Disney child star.
Netflix’s new Christmas romcom is sure to give fans of Mrs Doubtfire a major sense of déjà vu.
My Secret Santa landed on the platform today and follows Virgin River actress, and romcom legend, Alexandra Breckenridge as a single mother who is fired from her job just before Christmas.
When her daughter gets accepted into an expensive snowboarding school, the mum-of-one starts desperately searching for a role that can help her raise money quickly. That’s when she learns that the school offers half-price admission to children of the resort’s employees.
However, the only available position at the resort is performing as it’s seasonal on-site Santa Claus. So, she opts to go through a Father Christmas makeover, complete with the grey beard and a jolly big belly.
Similar to Robin William’s 1993 comedy, Mrs Doubtfire, the secret plan makes way for hilarious scenes. The mission also provides a perfect meeting spot for our main character and her love interest, who just happens to manage the resort.

Alexandra Breckenridge as Taylor Jacobson
Breckenridge stars as single mum Taylor Jacobson, who disguises herself as Santa.
Netflix viewers will recognise the actress as Mel Monroe from hit romantic drama Virgin River, which is set to return in 2026 for its seventh season.
The 43-year-old has also starred in a string of iconic romcoms, including 2006 teen comedy She’s The Man and 2002’s Big Fat Liar. In more recent years, Breckenridge has appeared in NBC drama This is Us, as main character Kevin Pearson’s ex-wife Sophie.
Ryan Eggold as Matthew Layne
A less familiar face to romcom fans, Ryan Eggold plays Taylor’s boss and love interest.
He recently appeared in the Oscar-winning biopic BlacKkKlansman, as well as beloved medical drama New Amsterdam, in which he played protagonist Dr. Max Goodwin.
Tia Mowry as Natasha Burton
Disney fans will be more than acquainted with Tia Mowry, who plays Matthew’s colleague Natasha. She spends most of the story vying for the hotel manager’s job, making her the romcom’s ‘villain’.
In her heyday, Mowry starred in the beloved nineties show Sister, Sister alongside her twin Tamera. The 47-year-olds also fronted Disney’s Twitches movie franchise.
Madison MacIsaac as Zoey Jacobson
Rising star Madison MacIsaac takes on the role of Taylor’s teenage daughter, Zoey. She made her acting debut just three years ago in Bring It On: Cheer or Die.
MacIsaac has since bagged roles in 2023 horror Elevator Game, action comedy Nobody 2 and fellow Christmas film Never Been Chris’d.
