EastEnders Lillia Turner’s life away from Lily Slater and close bond with co-star

Lillia Turner, who plays Lily Slater on EastEnders, has forged a remarkable bond with her on-screen mother Lacey Turner – and the pair share more than just a surname

EastEnders star Lillia Turner joined the soap as Lily Slater back in 2020.

The actress may share a surname with her on-screen mum Lacey Turner, but the pair are not related in real life though you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

The teenager, who plays feisty Lily on the BBC One soap, has built a warm and genuine relationship with Lacey, who plays Stacey Slater and the bond between them is clear both on and off set.

Lillia was born on 16 March 2009, making her 17 years old, while her on-screen character Lily is currently 16. She took over the role in 2020, having been chosen to breathe new life into the character previously played by Aine Garvey from 2014 to 2019.

Away from the bright lights of Walford, Lillia lives the life of a typical teenager. In May 2025 she temporarily stepped away from EastEnders to focus on her GCSE examinations, demonstrating that despite her impressive acting career, her education remains a firm priority.

She returned to screens in August 2025, picking up where she left off and continuing to impress both fans and fellow cast members alike.

One of the most charming glimpses into Lillia’s life away from the soap came when she teamed up with co-star Thomas Law, who plays Peter Beale, for an impromptu singing session.

The pair took advantage of a break on set to record a rendition of Best Part by Daniel Caesar, with Law posting a snippet of the performance on Instagram, writing: “[Lillia] and I stealing the echos from the staircase for our teaser version of this beautiful song.”

The clip quickly drew warm reactions from their EastEnders colleagues. Bobby Brazier, who plays Freddie Slater, wrote: “Omg so happy to see, yes lilia,” while Denise Fox star Diane Parish called them “Cutie pies.” Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline Jossa added: “Lillia amazing beautiful girl x.”

The performance offered a peek at a hidden talent that has clearly delighted her castmates, with Lillia’s singing voice earning particular praise in the comments.

Despite not being related in real life, fans frequently mistake Lillia and Lacey for genuine family members thanks to their striking facial similarities, matching surnames and undeniable on-screen chemistry.

Lacey has been vocal in her admiration for her young co-star, heaping praise on Lillia in an interview with Digital Spy.

“Lillia is such a great little actress. There’s something about her that is so warm and so natural, and her instincts are just bang-on,” Lacey said. “She’s been so desperate for a storyline of her own for so many years, so to see her have one is lovely.

“To watch her absolutely nail it has just been brilliant. I’ve tried to stay out of it as much as I can because Lillia actually doesn’t need any help, tips or guidance because she’s just great. She’s got something that is so natural that I don’t want to take that away from her.”

It is high praise indeed from one of EastEnders’ most beloved and long-standing stars, and a testament to just how much of an impression the young actress has made since joining the cast.

Since her arrival on EastEnders six years ago, Lillia has tackled some of the soap’s most challenging storylines, most notably when Lily discovered she was pregnant at just 12 years old.

The powerful performance earned Lillia the Best Young Performer award at the 2023 British Soap Awards, cementing her status as one of the most talented young actresses on British television.

More recently, Lily has found herself at the heart of a gripping new storyline surrounding the attack on Joel Marshall, with the character confessing she had been withholding key information about what she witnessed that night.

With her GCSEs behind her, a soap award already on the mantelpiece, and a castful of admirers cheering her on, Lillia’s future both on and off screen looks extraordinarily bright.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer

Why Callum Turner’s plasterer dad missed starstudded wedding to Dua Lipa

IT was billed as the showbiz wedding of the year. As Elton John, Charli XCX and Hollywood royalty descended on Sicily to watch Callum Turner marry Dua Lipa in a £1.5million extravaganza, one notable guest was nowhere to be seen.

Instead of raising a glass with his son, Callum’s father Laurence Coles was more than 2,000 miles away at an altogether different event in North London. Now, I can reveal the shocking reason why the actor’s dad missed the celebrity ceremony – and the complicated family history that makes his absence all the more surprising.

Two thousand miles away in North London was Laurence Coles – known to friends as ‘Larry’, and to Callum Turner, ‘Dad’.

The actor has previously described his relationship with Laurence as “loose” – hardly surprising given the pair spent much of Callum’s childhood living at opposite sides of the world.

However Larry’s recent return to the UK has allowed him to build a relationship with Callum – with the family spending time together and mingling on holidays.

Yet, in an unexpected turn, I am told that Laurence, who lives in Hastings, East Sussex, travelled to London for a wedding – albeit not his son’s.

Callum’s parents Larry and Rosemary Turner were unmarried and living at separate addresses when he was born in February 1990.

Callum was given his mother’s name, Turner, and was brought up by Rosemary in a council flat on an estate in Chelsea, West London.

Meanwhile, Larry was beginning an entirely different life on the other side of the world.

The former Hammersmith plasterer swapped London’s building sites for Sydney, where he also retrained as a psychotherapist, settled down and started a second family – leaving Callum growing up almost 10,000 miles away.

Fast-forward three decades and things looked very different.

Despite the fractured start to their relationship, father and son appear to have grown much closer in recent years.

But in a surprising twist to their father-son relationship, Larry not only missed his son’s wedding – he was attending a completely different one instead.

Instead, he was a guest of Jamie Rae Keeble – the daughter of Spandau Ballet drummer John Keeble – as she tied the knot in the capital on the same day as Dua and Callum.

The contrast could hardly have been starker. While Callum’s guests were arriving at a secluded Sicilian estate by chauffeured cars for what insiders dubbed the “showbiz wedding of the year”, Laurence was celebrating another couple’s big day back in the capital.

The revelation comes despite signs that father and son had grown closer in recent years

Last Christmas, Callum was pictured enjoying a festive meal with Laurence, fiancée Dua and his younger half-siblings Louis and Clemmie after Larry returned to Britain following almost three decades in Australia.

Clemmie has become particularly close to the couple, joining Dua on girls’ trips to Ibiza.

She also has a sweet snap of her and Callum on her Instagram from the GALA Festival in South London in 2019.

A source said: “Laurence and Callum have been estranged over the years but it was nonetheless strange that he was at a wedding on the same day his son got married.

“Laurence kept a low profile but some people questioned the fact that he was at a wedding on the same day his son was marrying Dua.”

Growing up, Callum’s mum Rosemary worked as a promoter for the clubs in SW3 – brushing shoulders with models and musicians on the fashionable King’s Road in London’s Chelsea.

Rosemary is now the co-founder of Counselling For Life and is described as an “experienced psychotherapist” on LinkedIn.

The actor previously told the Evening Standard: “The thing I always found interesting in my childhood was, yeah, I was growing up on an estate, single mum, working-class, but then I also had all these colourful characters around.

“It wasn’t about navigating two worlds,” he said. “There were three, four, five more.”

However Callum, who starred in Marc Webb’s 2017 film The Only Living Boy in New York, also said the father-son relationship was “alien” to him.

“I didn’t understand the relationship between the son and the father,” he said in 2019.

“It was completely alien to me.”

Larry, now 66 and once again single, lives in a period flat in a smart garden square in fashionable Hastings on the east Sussex coast, from where he practices his therapy.

Friends locally have said they know Larry is now in regular contact with his son, and is reportedly “unashamedly proud of Callum.”

That makes his absence from one of the biggest days of the actor’s life all the more surprising.

Though his father wasn’t in attendance, Callum’s half-siblings Louis and Clemmie attended the spectacular Sicilian wedding,

Beyond family, their three-day Sicily extravaganza was every bit the A-list affair insiders had promised.

Around 200 guests descended on the 18th-century Villa Valguarnera, with Joe Alwyn, Mark Ronson, Grace Gummer, George Daniel, Elton John and Charli XCX among those celebrating.

Guests were reportedly asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, while metal barriers surrounded the historic estate to keep fans and photographers at bay.

The property, which featured in the opening credits of HBO drama The White Lotus 2, is widely considered one of the most historically and culturally significant villas in Sicily.

It was once a Mafia hideout but has since been taken on by 76-year-old Italian author and translator Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca, the Princess of Valguarnera, who still lives in the estate.

One Kiss hitmaker Dua, who has an estimated net worth of £150million, and Callum hired the venue for a reported £86,000.

Dua stunned in a bespoke Chanel haute couture gown featuring a seven-foot train, handcrafted using 25,000 feathers and almost half a million beads, while Callum opted for a custom Louis Vuitton suit.

Days earlier the pair had made things official during a private legal ceremony at London’s Old Marylebone Town Hall before jetting to Sicily for the lavish celebration.

Dua was introduced to Callum in 2023 while having dinner at The River Cafe in London with her dad and manager Dukagjin Lipa.

They were introduced by the restaurant’s co-founder, Ruth Rogers, after having crossed paths many times before.

The Sun revealed that the pair officially started dating in 2024 and confirmed their engagement in British Vogue last summer.

Dua told the fashion bible: “This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don’t know, be best friends forever – it’s a really special feeling.”

Inside Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s incredible Italian wedding with TWO designer dresses and Elton John performance

DUA Lipa partied with friends until 6am at the finale of her three-day Sicilian wedding after Elton John sang and played piano for her ceremony.

The Be The One singer, 30, downed Negronis, drank champagne, smoked cigarettes and snogged new husband Callum Turner, 36, through the night, insiders said.

But The Sun can reveal security downed two drones by jamming their signals after they flew over the party, causing a huge security scare for the A-Lister guests.

We can also reveal she wore two dresses over the course of the night, both believed to have been designed by Donatella Versace.

Both dresses were white and floor length, and described by onlookers as “glittering”.

Dua, who wore her hair down, had a long train for her wedding ceremony, but slipped into a more comfortable one so she could dance at the afterparty.

Guests wept earlier in a hugely emotional moment as Sir Elton John serenaded Dua by playing piano and singing Your Song.

But a source told The Sun there were concerns for the Rocket Man legend, who was visibly struggling with his eyesight and appeared frail as he had to be supported by two men holding him.

A source told The Sun: “He had a person on each arm to guide him because he couldn’t see but he played the piano so well.”

They were then treated to a wedding feast which included a catalan lobster salad, tuna, and pasta with lobster.

Guests also had cannoli – Sicilian sweet pastry treats.

Sir Elton John left after the dinner, around the same time as Versace left too.

An Albanian community group based in Palermo also danced at the reception for Dua as bands played live music to guests whose cheers could be heard from the neighbouring streets.

Kosovo-Albanian singer Besnik Qaka and his band performed inside the venue in the evening.

A spectacular ten-minute firework display wowed guests at 11.30pm, before they moved inside the Villa Valguarnera for the afterparty. DJs played music including discotech.

A huge security presence threw a ring of steel around the event, and staff all signed NDAs and had to hand their phones in at 11am and did not get it back again until they left in the early hours.

Dua and Callum Said I Do in the Garden before the reception began.

Guests sat on wicker chairs adorned with white ribbon and gifted hand-embroidered white handkerchiefs with ‘Stay Mad with Me Forever’ on them in red.

They also got a white cotton bag with a red ‘D and C’ on the chair, which was filled with biodegradable confetti.

Elton, 79, who flew in by private jet for the ceremony, and Dua are close friends after they collaborated on the track Cold Heart in 2021.

Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace, 71, was also at the wedding, held in the grounds of the 18th-century Villa Valguarnera in Bagheria, and is believed to have designed Dua’s dress.

Yesterday’s service followed an official one at Old Marylebone Town Hall in central London last week.

A-list guests in Sicily included Brit actor Joe Alwyn, American actress Grace Gummer and her husband DJ Mark Ronson, and pop star Charli XCX and her husband George Daniel, the drummer with The 1975.

Some guests were understood to have signed non-disclosure agreements to protect the privacy of the star-studded three-day celebrations, which kicked off on Friday.

A ring of steel surrounded the venue with metal barriers erected along the roads leading to it.

The villa, which featured in the opening credits of HBO drama The White Lotus 2, is widely considered one of the most historically and culturally significant villas in Sicily.

One Kiss singer Dua, who has an estimated net worth of £150million, and Callum hired the venue for a reported £86,000.

It was once a Mafia hideout but has since been taken on by 76-year-old Italian author and translator Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca, the Princess of Valguarnera, who still lives in the estate.

A huge floral installation of white peonies, hyacinth and lily of the valley from a local florist served as the backdrop for the couple’s vows in the striking courtyard.

Meanwhile the grand entrance to the villa was adorned with purple bougainvillea flowers — a defining feature of Sicily.

Dua is understood to have walked down the aisle with her dad and manager Dukagjin through the courtyard. Pale wooden chairs draped with a cream ribbon were arranged for 200 guests in a semicircle for the ceremony.

Wedding favours included white hankerchiefs embroidered in red with “Stay mad with me forever” and there was also a photo booth.

Guests arrived in chauffer-driven cars and were served wine and popcorn while waiting for the ceremony to commence.

The ceremony was followed by a traditional Sicilian menu from chef Tony Lo Coco’s Michelin-starred Bagheria restaurant I Pupi.

Guests then partied into the night with an outdoor DJ set.

Dua and Callum — who is among the favourites to be the next James Bond — are staying in a £6,000-anight suite at the five-star 19th Century Palazzo Villa Igiea in nearby Palermo.

They are reported to have reserved two floors of the hotel and are staying in the Donna Franca Suite with the private terrace offering panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

They also shut down two city centre squares in Palermo for the first of three days of parties.

Last week The Sun revealed that Dua paid £5,000 to residents who live around the area to thank them.

But she was criticised by locals who stuck up posters accusing the singer of making their public space a “living room for the rich”. Others said: “Palermo is not for rent.”

Sir Elton John left Palermo in a private jet just after 12.30pm local time today.

The music legend, 79, was accompanied by husband David Furnish, 63, who took a photo of the singer with ground staff.

The £24,000 private jet headed towards Farnborough, near his home in Windsor. Elton was a blue tracksuit while David wore a yellow suit.
