Looking for a festive day out for all the family? Many theme parks will be opening their doors for the Christmas season with a range of activities for all the family. In addition to themed days out, some parks will also be offering special short breaks, with extras such as Santa visits and evening entertainment and even the chance to enjoy a festive-themed sleepover at the on-park hotels. Here’s a round-up of some of the most popular theme parks in the UK and what they’ll be offering this November and December.

Alton Towers – Magical Days Out

From £18 per person

In the run up to Christmas and the New Year, Alton Towers offers Magical Days Out starting at just £18 per person. While it’s a cheaper way to visit the park, it’s worth noting that only CBeebies Land and Mutiny Bay are open, plus a couple of the bigger rides, so you don’t expect all the usual thrill rides to be available.

However, the park is set to be decked out in festive decorations, and visitors can enjoy Christmas-themed shows such as Hey Duggee Live: The Christmas Badge!, which is bound to be a hit with the younger members of the family.

Families can also book a Santa Sleepover at one of the park’s on-site hotels, starting at £91 per person. This includes a one-day theme park ticket, a visit to Santa’s grotto, a traditional pantomime, and a festive dinner and entertainment for the whole family. Booking the Santa Sleepover also gives you access to the on-site waterpark and crazy golf.

Gulliver’s – Christmas and Land of Lights

From £27 per person

Three of Gulliver’s theme parks will be offering Christmas events: Rotherham, Milton Keynes, and Warrington, with a selection of Christmas rides and attractions open during this time. What’s available over the festive period varies by park, and some of the activities on offer include festive breakfasts, Santa’s grottos, Christmas shows, Elf workshops, and more, with a variety of packages available.

Each park will also have a Land of Lights attraction – a spectacular light trail that opens during the winter. Tickets for this attraction are sold separately and start at £13.75 per person.

Drayton Manor – Christmas Wonderland

From £20 per person

Drayton Manor say they’ve unwrapped their “biggest and most magical Christmas plans ever”. The Midland-based park, which is best-known for being the home of Thomas Land, will open on selected dates from November 22 to December 31 with most of the park’s rides open.

There will also be a range of themed attractions for family days out. Fans of Elf on the Shelf can enjoy Elftoria, with the cheeky creatures taking over the park and adding a mischievous touch to your day. Children can even take part in pranking workshops and enjoy a live elf show.

Kids can visit the Castle Grotto, which will include a story-time experience with Mrs Claus and a visit to the man in red, while Thomas Land will be decked out in seasonal decorations and have festive family shows. In the evening, families can board the Twinkling Express, a gentle journey surrounded by Christmas light trails.

Paultons Park – Celebration of Christmas

From £20 per person

Paultons, perhaps most famous for being the home of Peppa Pig World, will be turning their park into a Christmas wonderland. On selected dates through December, visitors can visit Peppa and friends in their festive clothing, enjoy Santa’s Christmas Wish show, or enjoy festive-themed menus in the park’s cafes.

If you prefer thrill rides, the Tornado Springs are will be also be open as well as selected rides in Lost Kingdom and Critter Creek.

Chessington – Christmas Village

From £32 per person

Chessington’s Christmas village ticket will include a selection of the park’s rides, as well as access to the zoo and SEA LIFE centre. Visitors will be able to enjoy a Christmassy silent disco, wander through a snowy trail, and see the elves making toys in their workshop. Of course, there’s also a visit to Santa to give him your Christmas list.

Visitors can stay for longer by booking the on-site Safari or Azteca Resort Hotel, and there’s even a range of VIP experiences that can be added onto your package to create unique Christmas memories. Book an elf wake up call, with a small pre-Christmas gift for the kids, or take part in a reindeer encounter and see Santa’s helpers up close.

But the fun doesn’t stop once January comes round. Chessington now offer a themed Christmas Room, which will be a permanent fixture in their hotel year-round. No matter when you visit, you’ll be able to enjoy a decorated tree, Christmas crackers, hot chocolate, and even a decorated Christmas parking space. Dogecoin (DOGE -17.67%) was never really supposed to be a functional cryptocurrency. It’s a clone of a clone of Bitcoin with a few funny tweaks to the code, intentionally making Dogecoin less secure and less valuable in the long run.

Yet, its adorable dog mascot and support from popular meme lords made Dogecoin one of the most valuable cryptos on the planet. With a $37.6 billion market cap as of Oct. 9, it would be a mid-range member of the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) if it were a stock, comparable to household names like Yum! Brands or Delta Air Lines.

But these things change over time. Five years ago, Dogecoin was only the 43rd-largest name in crypto, with a $328 million market value. About one-third of the coins ranked above it in 2020 have fallen out of the top-100 list, according to CoinMarketCap.

And I think Dogecoin’s days in the spotlight are numbered. Thanks to firmer regulation, the advent of crypto-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and the incoming Web3 trend, the top coins of the relatively near future will have to prove their worth with real-world usage. Dogecoin doesn’t have much to offer in that department. By 2030, I expect Chainlink (LINK -15.25%), Avalanche (AVAX -14.17%), and Polkadot (DOT -21.71%) to have passed Dogecoin’s market value.

Let’s talk about the Web3 revolution

Spoiler alert: I’ll keep coming back to Web3 ideals in these explanations. Cryptocurrencies should go mainstream in that world, where internet users own their data, digital assets, and online identities through blockchain technology rather than relying on big tech companies.

I mean, most people may be unaware of the Web3 changes going on behind the scenes, and the best Web3 apps will surely look and feel like any other application. But the structural changes are still necessary, and that’s why I like this particular trio of future crypto giants.

1. Polkadot connects the crypto universe

On that note, I have to mention Polkadot. It’s the brainchild of the Web3 Foundation, founded by Web3 champion and Ethereum (ETH -6.65%) co-founder Gavin Wood.

Polkadot’s main purpose is to help app developers take full advantage of many other cryptocurrencies and blockchain ledgers. It connects to the other cryptos, easily transferring data between them and simplifying the design of complex crypto apps.

It’s also incredibly fast, which comes in handy when interacting with some of the highest-performance crypto systems available. And thanks to a recent community vote, there is now a hard cap on the number of Polkadot coins that will ever exist — making it as inflation-resistant as Bitcoin.

Polkadot is much smaller than Dogecoin today, with a market cap of just $6.6 billion. That value relationship should flip by 2030.

2. Smart contracts would be pretty dumb without Chainlink

Chainlink is another crucial Web3 component. The leading oracle coin collects real-world data and delivers it to blockchain systems, usually to trigger smart contracts.

Development ecosystems such as Ethereum and Polkadot often rely on Chainlink to collect critical data. Popular data feeds include stock market pricing, foreign exchange rates, weather reports, and sports results. Without these data feeds, the Web3 world would grind to a halt — and Chainlink is the top data provider by far.

Chainlink is currently the 11th-largest cryptocurrency, with a market capitalization of $15 billion. This figure should trend higher over the next few years as Dogecoin fades.

3. Avalanche brings eco-friendly speed to Web3

Finally, Avalanche is a high-performance alternative to Ethereum. This coin combines quick smart contract execution with an energy-efficient computing back-end, making Avalanche a popular platform for eco-friendly decentralized apps.

And the Avalanche-based app portfolio is growing by leaps and bounds right now. Fresh examples include a global social network for sports fans, a decentralized fine wine database, and digital tickets to the Latin American baseball championships of 2025. These projects all hit the public market in the last two weeks.

Avalanche’s market cap stands at $12.0 billion today, up from $7.7 billion six months ago. Avalanche is a vibrant cryptocurrency with a real shot at Web3 relevance. Sorry, Dogecoin — Avalanche will probably also eclipse you in the next five years.

From hunting down freebies, to spotting a hidden bargain or downloading apps for discounts, people are trying their best to not overspend.

Luckily, money saving experts are sharing their top tips on social media so that everyone can get by without having to scrape the coins. 

Chloe, who is known as ‘chloesdealclub’ on TikTok, has recently shared a video showing how she manages to get a free breakfast from Lidl. 

And the best part about it? There’s no minimum spend either. 

Speaking to her 48.3k followers, Chloe explained that customers just need to download the Lidl Plus app and create a new account. 

She advised to get someone else in your household that doesn’t have one to do this if you have already got one. 

After downloading and signing up for the app, Chloe explained that you should receive three freebie coupons into your app. 

She showed that the coupons include a free Lidl tote bag, a bakery item, and fresh fruit. 

Chloe said: “So go to Lidl and get a pastry and some fruit, or you could even get stuff to make avocado on toast. There’s loads of options.” 

She added: “You’ve got a free breakfast and a bag to carry it home in.” 

In the caption section, Chloe also explained that there’s “no minimum spend so you can get these freebies without buying anything else.” 

The video received 78.5 views and 74 comments after four days of being shared on her account.

Many wanted to share their excitement after hearing the news. 

One wrote: “Got mine. Thank you for sharing.”

A second added: “Free strawberries! I’m going to get everyone in my house to download it!” 

Whilst a third said: “It’s true, I had also downloaded the Lidl app, from which I also got this shopping bag, muffins and many other things.”
