Kim Kardashian can’t sleep at night after robbery hell without huge life change

Appearing in a Paris court last month, Kim Kardashian revealed the impact of her 2016 robbery as she’s had to make a huge life change to finally feel safe at night.

Traumatised by her 2016 ordeal, Kim Kardashian recently revealed she “can’t sleep” without a security team nearby.

“I thought I was going to die.” That’s how Kim Kardashian described the moment masked intruders tied her up, gagged her and held her at gunpoint inside a luxury Paris hotel.

On the night of October 2nd 2016, five men, disguised as police, stormed into her room during Fashion Week, making off with an estimated $10 million worth of jewelry (£7.5m) – including a $4 million diamond ring gifted by Kim’s then-husband Kanye West – and fleeing by bicycle.

But what they left behind was far more lasting: fear, trauma and a permanent scar on the life of one of the world’s most recognisable women.

“It was terrifying and life-changing and I don’t wish that kind of terror on anyone – to think you could be killed or raped – I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy,” Kim told a Paris court last May.

Now, BBC Three delivers a gripping retelling of the heist, featuring never-before-heard witness accounts from friends, police, security experts and journalists in The Kim Kardashian Diamond Heist.

The documentary lays bare the brazen crime, security failures and the devastating emotional aftermath that reshaped Kim’s life – from the incident itself to her confrontation with the men responsible for her trauma.

Nine years after the heist, Kim told the court that “everything changed” after that fateful night. She grew increasingly terrified of going out and said that she employs up to six people to guard her house at night. “I can’t even sleep at night if I know there’s not multiple security,” she said.

In court, Kim faced down ten men accused of planning and carrying out the robbery. Eight of them were ultimately convicted of kidnapping and violent theft, though most received mild sentences due to age or health.

Ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache received an eight-year prison sentence with five-year suspended, while three other defendants – Yunis Abbas, Didier Dubreucq, and Marc-Alexandre Boyer – were sentenced to seven years, also with five years suspended. Due to these suspended sentences, none will serve any time in prison.

Yunis Abbas, 71, wrote a book about the heist in 2021 and had previously served 20 years for burglary. One person was also found guilty on a weapons charge and fined, while two were acquitted.

The Kim Kardashian Diamond Heist also scrutinises serious security lapses – from minimal protection in a high-profile location to the risks of real-time social media. Experts suggest Kim’s lavish Instagram posts may have been a beacon to criminals.

For Kim, it’s time to move forward. “This is my closure and my opportunity to put this to rest after everything I’ve been through,” she told the court, adding that her responsibility was to “tell my truth and hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”

Man vomits before he lets his girlfriend sleep with another man in bizarre experiment

A Channel 4 sex experiment show has left viewers shocked as committed couples agree to have sex with other people to see if they are willing to have a polyamorous relationship

A Channel 4 reality show has left viewers stunned – and some reaching to turn off the TV – after a contestant vomited while participating in a bizarre sex experiment that saw his girlfriend sleeping with other men.

In the latest explosive episode of Open House: The Great Sex Experiment, Tom and his girlfriend Lauren signed up to explore non-monogamy in an attempt to reignite their relationship – but the reality proved too much for Tom to stomach, quite literally.

The controversial show, which airs on Channel 4, invites committed couples to a luxurious countryside retreat to test the boundaries of their relationships by experimenting with open sex – all under the watchful eyes of cameras and sex therapists.

Touted by the show as a bold dive into “one of society’s greatest taboos” – monogamy – Open House has become one of the broadcaster’s most talked-about series, following in the footsteps of the equally provocative Virgin Island, which was slammed by some viewers as “creepy” and “uncomfortable”.

In one episode, Tom and Lauren were advised by non-monogamy coach Effy Blue to try spending time independently to see how it would impact their bond. But things quickly turned from awkward to distressing.

Despite Lauren’s pep talk – “Don’t be nervous. You absolutely got this” – Tom looked pale and anxious as she reassured him about the day ahead. Moments later, he was seen rushing off camera to vomit in the bathroom.

“This is going to be horrible,” he admitted. “I feel absolutely petrified and sick.”

Lauren, hugging him from behind, gently urged: “All that anyone can ask is that you just try, okay?”

Lauren had been the one to suggest they experiment with other people from the outset. Speaking to the camera, she said: “Yes, it’s throwing me and Tom in the deep end… but for him to have the confidence that we can go off, have our fun, and come back to each other at the end of the night – it’s insane.”

But viewers weren’t convinced – many taking to social media to question both the format and the wellbeing of those taking part.

“I’m no prude, but this is unnecessarily graphic and getting away with it by being ‘educational’,” posted one user on X. “Grow up, Channel 4. Full of exhibitionists.”

Another wrote: “Tom needs help and support – he shouldn’t be anywhere near this show. #OpenHouse.”

“Honestly feel bad for Tom,” added one viewer. “He needs counselling, not cameras in his face.”

A fourth branded the episode “so awkward to watch,” while others said Channel 4 was simply pushing boundaries for shock value.

Tom had opened up about bedroom issues in the episode, explaining he struggled “to get it up” due to performance anxiety. But later on, his worries passed as both he and Lauren had sex with different people in separate rooms at the same time.

Open House: The Great Sex Experiment is available to stream now on Channel 4.

I’m a hot sleeper, Simba’s ‘cool touch’ duvet sends me to sleep in a heatwave

Sleeping in the heat has interrupted my sleep pattern but Simba’s Summer Hybrid Duvet has been a game changer for regulating body heat at night

persons sleeping in bed
The summer hybrid duvet has a cool touch to help regulate body temperature

Sleeping in summer has been a struggle for me especially when the heatwave hit and I ended up tossing and turning in bed all night, but that’s not the case until I tried Simba’s Summer Hybrid Duvet, a down-like comfort designed for lightweight warmth.

Available in Single, Double, King and Super King with prices starting from £129, the Hybrid Duvet is a 4.5 Tog bedding that features innovative Stratos tech to keep hot sleepers like me to slumber down for a restful sleep. I don’t own a cooling fan so the special webbing pattern stitched to the bottom of the duvet is the next best thing that keeps me from oversweating at night.

While 10.5 Tog is generally considered for all-year use but for those who are prone to cold might want to invest in a two-in-one duvet such as Dusk’s Feels Like Down Duvet Collection, their All Seasons duvet is comprised of two separate 4.5 and 9 tog duvets, fastened together with buttons. It’s retailed at £63 but shoppers can enjoy 20% off with code EXTRA20 at checkout.

I have been sleeping with open windows and legs out of my duvet cover but the traffic noise and night owls on the street have made an impact on my sleep quality. Since I swapped my duvet to Simba’s Hybrid Duvet, I’ve had some of the most peaceful sleeps and it kept my body temperature cool.

The special square stitched Simba Renew Bio Fibres fill prevents any uneven coverage and the fresh cotton cover had me ditching the duvet cover. Having said that, there is a risk of getting stains on the pristine white fabric.

Offering superbly light and gentle warmth, it’s made from recycled plastic bottle fibres combed into airy layers, and is designed to allow plenty of airflow through the duvet for wonderful, drier warmth.

But shoppers will be pleased to know that it is machine washable and it fits in most at-home washing machines and it also dries pretty fast (when the sun is out and about).

For those who prefer to add colours or patterns to their bedding essentials, the Night Lark Gingham Print Coverless Duvet in blue and taupe are perfect for summer styles and they are available in both 4.5 and 10.5 tog with prices starting from £60.

I’ve been sleeping soundly in hot days with this new duvet

I enjoy using the Simba duvet however, my brother is not a big fan as he finds it “too cold”. He said: “It’s nice to sleep in it but after a few hours, I felt cold and had to grab a fleece throw instead. It’s too lightweight and I like to sleep with a weighted blanket.”

While some customers find it pricey but for me, it saved me from buying a cooling fan, which could cost £100 extra. One shopper added: “A wonderful duvet, I cannot recommend it more. Just like a feather on top of you, and seems very temperature regulating.”

Another shared: “Warm yet light and regulates temperature so well. We are using the duvet now when we would have changed to a low tog summer duvet to keep cool. It’s not immediately obvious which is the top and bottom side so adding a label which states top and underside would be helpful.”

Layering up in the bedroom is key

However, property expert Liv Conlon – who stages homes for a living – has shared her essential 10 tips for boosting value.

And some cost just pennies but can had hundreds to the asking price.

Liv, 26, is the CEO of multi-award-winning ThePropertyStagers.co.uk, which furnishes more than 400 homes a year, as well as a StagerBoss – a coaching business teaching other women how to do the same.

The Scots mum, who was brought up in Glasgow and now lives in Marbella with son Cash and mum Ali, says: “From posh pillows to hotel-style bedding, the right styling can make buyers fall in love and nudge them above the asking price.

“So before you stick up the For Sale sign, check out these smart, simple ways to get buyers battling to pay more than the asking price.”

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

A buyer decides in 10 seconds whether they are going to buy your home or not – so your entrance and hallway need to make a good first impression.

Make it warm and welcoming. Buy a new door mat that’s only used for viewings, with no dirty shoe marks, and place two identical plants at either side of the door – which is either clean, new or given a lick of paint. Opt for colours such as black or navy blue so it looks ‘classy’, rather than something more ‘out there’.

Clear away the clutter, and lose the smelly shoes and dumped coats.

LIVING ROOM VISION

The living room is the heart of the home – and buyers know it. It’s where they picture relaxing with a glass of wine, watching TV, or hosting friends.

Teachers told me I was runing my life leaving school at 16, now I run a seven-figure business

Get this room wrong and you risk turning off even the most interested buyer. Make it feel spacious but not sterile, styled but still homely.

Pull sofas away from the walls to create cosy conversation zones, and use a large rug to anchor the space – this helps define it and adds warmth.

Then ditch harsh overhead lights and go for soft lamps, layered lighting and oversized accessories to give a sense of luxury. Use neutral tones for your sofa and walls, then add depth with textured throws, scatter cushions and artwork.

GO BIG

Tiny trinkets and dinky lamps really don’t cut it when you’re trying to wow a buyer. One of the biggest styling mistakes sellers make is going too small with their accessories – it makes your home look underwhelming.

: I’m a millionaire, here’s how to make your home look expensive on a budget - and you’ll get a much higher asking price.Teaser: LIV Conlon, 25, originally from Glasgow but who now lives in Marbella, can also give style advice to sellers who are looking to achieve above the asking price..Subdeck: Liv Conlon is an expert when it comes to making homes look posh

5

Go big with accessories

If you want to create that lux, showhome feel, size matters. Think
big and bold. Oversized lamps on side tables make a dramatic statement, especially when paired with plush sofas or layered cushions.

Chunky candlesticks, large framed art or statement vases add instant impact – and make the space feel styled, not stuffed.

DON’T LOO-SE OUT

Bathrooms are an important room but are often forgotten about when it comes to staging. The key to success with styling this room is to compliment not clutter.

You can do this by adding simple styling accessories, layers and textures. Consider pops of colour in your accessories, such as a soap dispenser or a toothbrush holder, which you can pick up for as little as £3 in places like Home Bargains. This draws the eye and helps your images jump off the page.

5

Don’t forget to add a pop of colour in the bathroom

Add textures with towels and bath mats, but also through the type of glass or ceramic in your accessories. Small touches can have a big impact.

RIGHT RUG

Rugs are the unsung heroes of home staging – they define spaces, add texture and instantly warm up any room. In large, open-plan layouts, rugs create natural boundaries between living,
dining and kitchen zones, making the space feel organised and inviting.

Don’t overlook the ‘forgotten’ spaces – utility rooms, hallways or entryways can be transformed with a well-chosen rug to feel cosy and purposeful.

Rugs can tie together the design elements, especially through colour and texture, in a space while providing a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

They can also significantly reduce noise levels by absorbing sound – a quieter home is always more appealing to buyers.

ALL WHITE

Five-star hotels use crisp, white bedding for a reason, as it exudes luxury and cleanliness, and it immediately puts a viewer at ease.

Patterned or busy linens can feel cluttered and overly personal, turning off potential buyers. Investing in high-quality, bright white sheets creates a serene, spa-like oasis that invites buyers to imagine themselves unwinding there.

The clean, neutral backdrop also lets you introduce pops of colour and texture with cushions and throws – easy updates that make the room feel stylish without overwhelming the senses.

GET DRESSED

Layering is the secret to making your home feel styled, warm and high-end – without overdoing it.

In the bedroom, start with white sheets, then double up on duvets: one laid flat, the second folded neatly at the end for a boutique hotel look. Use feather insert cushions -not flat polyfills – and build texture with velvet throws, faux fur or quilted finishes.

In the living room, mix cushion sizes and textures on your sofa – linen, boucle, chunky knit – to add depth. Coffee tables and
sideboards should be styled too: think a stack of hardback books, a sculptural candle and one standout vase. Keep it intentional, not cluttered.

STAR OF THE SHOW

Not much beats getting ready at a dressing table. The feeling of space and time – rather than catching a quick glimpse in the closet mirror before rushing out the front door.

Create that same feeling in your bedroom by setting up a designated space in your bedroom to put on make-up and style your hair.

This can be a dual purpose area that could also double up as a work from home space too. To add real luxury, add a table standing mirror, and opt for a mirrored dressing table if your budget allows.

CLEAR OFF

Nothing puts buyers off faster than clutter. It makes rooms feel smaller and chaotic. When people view your home, they’re not just looking at the space – they’re imagining their life in it.

That’s hard to do if every surface is piled high with post, toys or toiletries. Start by stripping back.

Clear kitchen worktops, bedside tables and bathroom counters. Invest in clever storage: ottomans with lift-up lids, under-bed boxes and baskets for toys or blankets.

Hide away anything personal or bulky. Less stuff equals more space.

MIRROR IMAGE

Create symmetry in your rooms with matching bedside tables on either side of the bed. Not only does this add practicality and storage, but it instantly makes the room feel more polished.

Then, top each table with oversized, identical lamps – these create drama and a high-end vibe without breaking the bank.

Symmetry tricks the eye into seeing order and elegance, making your
bedroom feel like a five-star retreat buyers won’t forget.

Eight quirky ways to stop the ageing process from how you should stand to what type of music to listen to

THEY say age is just a number – but how old you feel does not correlate to the number of candles on your birthday cake.

A new study found 36 years old is the age when most of us notice we are no longer in the first flush of youth.

But there are plenty of ways to continue to feel young at heart.

Here Laura Stott suggests ways to turn back time in a flash, whatever your age . . .

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

Whether it’s a fun run, starting dance lessons or walking 10,000 steps a day, set a target that is achievable.

Completing a task that stretches your capabilities has been shown to build confidence and provide a sense of accomplishment, which makes us feel more youthful.

Feeling physically fitter puts a youthful spring in your step, too.

Forget Botox or going under the knife, if you want to take decades off in an instant, then just smile more.

Research has found that people with happy faces are perceived as younger than they are, and also feel it.

One study found that images of cheery faces were considered much to be more youthful-looking than those with neutral expressions.

Whether these are rave tunes or power ballads might depend on how many decades have passed – and whether you first heard them on CD, vinyl or cassette.

But whatever, listening to those songs can turn back the years in your mind.

Making love can leave you looking and feeling five years younger, according to one study.

The research, for the charity Age UK, revealed that keeping busy between the sheets makes older adults both look and feel years younger.

Experts believe this is because sex releases feelgood hormones, endorphins. Another UK study even found that regular sex can make you look up to seven years younger.

How to reverse ageing in just 2 weeks, according to royal go-to nutritionist

LONDON -based Gabriela Peacock, who has helped the likes of Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie prepare for their weddings.

She told Fabulous: “The science is evident that we all have the power to make simple life changing alterations to better our future selves – no matter what genetic hand we might have been dealt with.

“The reality is, we all sometimes indulge in unhealthy eating habits like processed foods, smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol, inhaling city pollutants, and even drinking water from plastic bottles – none of this is good for us.

“All this does is promote the ageing process, but we all have the potential to change this.”

It may be hard, but try to keep away from sugary carbohydrates, because they feed chronic inflammation, which is one of the worst enemies of reversing ageing.

Now only will you end up putting on weight if you consume them regularly, but your energy and hormonal levels will be affected and this will influence how you look and feel.

Whatever your age or state of health, it’s never too late to reverse how quickly you are ageing and embrace the energy and vigour of a younger you.

Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, are essential in neutralising free radicals—the culprits behind premature ageing.

Integrating a spectrum of colourful fruits and vegetables into your diet provides a potent source of antioxidants.

Omega-3 fatty acids, abundant in fatty fish like salmon and flaxseeds, are vital for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration.

Omega-3s act as nourishment for your skin, locking in moisture and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen, a structural protein dwindling with age, can be replenished through collagen-rich foods like bone broth and lean protein sources.

How to fall asleep anywhere this half term – including upright plane seats, bumpy car rides and unfamiliar hotel beds

WE all function better after a decent night’s sleep, but sometimes life gets in the way and we simply can’t bank the hours of shut-eye we need to feel energised, upbeat and alert.

Getting up at the crack of dawn for an early morning flight, long train journeys on uncomfortable seats, and staying in unfamiliar hotel beds can make it difficult to get the slumber we want.

Collage of a woman sleeping, headphones, a broken clock, and other people sleeping.

7

We may even find it hard to squeeze in a daytime nap on the sofa or in the car when our bodies are crying out for some more rest.

Joshua Piper, sleep clinician at Resmed UK, tells Sun Health: “Whether you’re on a plane, in a hotel or trying to sneak a power nap in the car, falling asleep away from home can be tricky.

“Thankfully, there are some sneaky little tips that can help you to sleep, no matter your location.”

In a hotel bed…

YOU’VE splashed out for a trip overseas, staying in a nice hotel with a bed that’s far more luxurious than the one you have at home.

Yet for some reason, your sleep couldn’t be worse. Sound familiar? You’re not alone.

Research by the Sleep Foundation found that the majority of people get less sleep in hotels than at home.

When asked where they slept best, a measly 13 per cent of people chose hotels compared with 65 per cent who chose their own bed.

Plus, only 54 per cent of people questioned said they got seven hours of sleep a night in a hotel.

“Hotel rooms can throw sleep patterns off with bright lighting, unfamiliar beds, and that ‘not-quite-home’ vibe,” says Joshua.

“Even if the bed is great, your brain is subconsciously on alert. It’s called the ‘first night effect’.”

Doctor reveals the dangerous effects going to sleep after midnight has on our brain

“One half of your brain stays more vigilant in a new setting as a survival mechanism, especially during deep sleep stages,” adds Jules Goldberg, an expert in sleep health and technology and founder of sleep tech brands, Sleepwave and Snorelab.

Jet lag can play a role, but your production of the sleepy hormone melatonin can take a hit regardless of timezone.

Routine is key here, according to Joshua.

“Keeping your bedtime routine the same, even on the road, is one of the simplest ways to ease into sleep,” he says.

“Brush your teeth, do your skincare routine, read your usual two pages of a book. Do whatever tells your brain ‘it’s time for bed’.”

Jules adds: “Keep the room cool and dark. Try setting the temperature to around 18C, which is ideal for sleeping.

“And if the curtains don’t quite cut it, a sleep mask can help you block out the light.”

She also suggests bringing something familiar to the hotel.

“Whether it’s your pillowcase or a small item from home, that sense of familiarity can help signal to your brain that it’s time to switch off,” she says.

On a plane…

A LONG journey means a long snooze, right? Well, it’s not quite so easy.

Joshua says that sensory overload can make sleep very difficult.

Think loud noises, people talking and unless you’ve splashed out for business class, you’ll likely be in an upright, uncomfortable seat too.

Where possible, select your seat in advance – and choose wisely

“A window seat away from foot traffic helps, and sitting over the engine can provide that steady white noise effect,” says Joshua.

Aim to keep your sleep short too – around 20 minutes maximum. You want to feel refreshed, not groggy

Jules GoldbergSleep expert

The exact location of over-engine seats varies, but they’re typically in the middle, near the wings of the plane, or to the rear of the plane.

“Eye masks, neck pillows, warm socks and a blanket go a long way too,” says Joshua.

“And a proper travel pillow can stop your head from nodding and waking you up repeatedly,” adds Jules.

Wear loose clothing when you fly so that your movement isn’t restricted.

And if you have time before a flight, try to squeeze in some exercise, such as a brisk walk, jog or gym session.

Research published in the journal Advances in Preventive Medicine found that exercise improves sleep quality and duration.

In the car…

MUCH like in a plane, if you have a long car journey ahead, you might be planning a little sleep, if the driver doesn’t mind you dozing off!

For a decent rest, recline your seat slightly.

“Being fully upright makes it harder for your body to enter proper rest,” says Jules. “Even 15 to 20 degrees helps.”

As for background noise, go for calm, instrumental music.

“Ambient playlists work best,” says Jules. “But if you prefer, choose a chatty radio station as this may help you to drift off.

“Aim to keep your sleep short too – around 20 minutes maximum. You want to feel refreshed, not groggy.”

Whatever you do, make sure you’re safe and stay belted if you’re in a moving vehicle.

On the sofa…

We all need a sofa nap now and then – but limit yourself to 20 minutesCredit: Getty

BIG night ahead and want to bank some sleep so you can stay awake into the early hours?

“If you’re going for a tactical 3pm sofa snooze, aim for it to be around 20 minutes,” says Joshua.

“This is typically enough to recharge without dipping into deep sleep.

“Most of us take eight to 10 minutes to drift off, so set an alarm accordingly.”

While you can’t force sleep, you can create a peaceful, sleep-promoting environment.

“Even if you don’t fall fully asleep, a period of restful stillness can recharge you enough to feel sharper and more energised,” Jules says.

“Dim the lights as bright light confuses your internal clock, and do a short breathing exercise or body scan to calm your system.”

In the journal Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, mindfulness activities like body scans were shown to help improve sleep quality and even reduce some sleep issues.

A body scan involves focusing on a spot on your body, such as your right foot, and noticing how it feels or if there is any pain or tension.

Then, you move on to another area until you’ve covered your entire body.

By this point, you’re hopefully drifting off – or already asleep!

WHETHER it’s a cruise ship, ferry or commuter boat, trying to catch some Zzzs on the water isn’t always smooth sailing.

“With long-term motion comes some detriment,” says Joshua.

“Motion sickness has been shown to have negative effects on sleep duration and quality.

“This often creates a vicious cycle, as sleepiness increases the risk of motion-related illness.”

The best thing you can do is maintain a consistent sleep schedule, sticking to your wind-down activities like normal to prepare your body for sleep.

For me, the bedroom is for sleep and, if the stars align, sex! That’s it. No TV, no laptop, no doom-scrolling. Otherwise, your brain won’t associate that space with winding down

Joshua PiperSleep clinician

Avoid using screens before hitting the hay as this can exacerbate the symptoms of motion sickness as your brain is receiving conflicting signals from your eyes and inner ear about movement.

But, boat sleeping isn’t all bad. Joshua says that the gentle rocking can actually help support sleep.

“Plus, quite often, being at sea means you are governed by natural light, which can have positive effects on sleep as you align more closely to your natural circadian rhythm, aka your body clock,” he adds.

“We also tend to have reduced noise pollution and other environmental disturbances.

“Just make sure everything is tied down!”

WE all want to get good sleep at home.

While the NHS recommends we get seven to nine hours of sleep each night, half of Brits don’t get nearly enough, according to research by YouGov.

More than a third (34 per cent) struggled to drift off three or more times a week, and almost half (44 per cent) have called in sick to work because of extreme tiredness, research by Resmed shows.

Making your bedroom a sleep sanctuary goes a long way in improving your shut-eye.

“It’s about giving your brain the right signals,” Joshua says.

“For me, the bedroom is for sleep and, if the stars align, sex! That’s it. No TV, no laptop, no doom-scrolling.

“Otherwise, your brain won’t associate that space with winding down.”

You also don’t need to spend thousands of pounds on blackout blinds or fancy gadgets.

“Start with small steps, like an eye mask, a bit of down time before bed, even dimming the lights,” he adds.

“Stick to the same wake-up time (on weekends too) and get some morning sunlight.

“It’s the best natural reset for your body clock.”

The 8 sleep-destroying habits that are waking you up in the night

By Lucy Gornall, health writer

IT can be frustrating when you get into bed early, ready for a solid night’s rest, only to wake up several times.

Bad sleep can leave you grouchy, unproductive and of course, very tired.

Young children, loud noises and a restless sleeping partner can all cause you to wake up in the night.

But if none of these are affecting you, then why are you still unable to sleep through, undisturbed? Experts say it could be one of eight things:

  1. Your sleep posture is wrong
  2. You’re not getting enough sunlight in the day
  3. You have sleep apnoea
  4. You’re having coffee in the afternoon
  5. You’re stressed
  6. You’re eating chocolate after dinner
  7. You’re having wine with dinner
  8. Your joints are aching

You can read the full article, which includes how to combat these issues and top feeling tired all the time, here.

Newcastle star Callum Wilson bravely opens up on moment he considered taking his own life as a child

CALLUM WILSON revealed he contemplated suicide aged 12 and how seeking therapy a year ago saved him from the demons.

The father-of-two forward, whose Newcastle contract expires next month, bravely spoke out during Mental Health Awareness week and hopes his story will inspire others to ask for help.

Man sitting in a chair being interviewed with a microphone.

England international Wilson, 33, bared all about growing up in Coventry as one of six children with a single mum and with a different dad to his siblings.

The Leeds transfer target spent time in foster care and had to regularly use food banks while also staying in safe houses after witnessing domestic violence at home.

He told the High Performance podcast: “I cried myself to sleep at night. I got to about 12, 13 – it was like suicidal moments.

“When I say I cried myself to sleep, I was just praying to God like ‘take me out of this environment, I want to become a footballer’.”

He admitted: “I’ve walked alongside the train track and was building up the courage to jump basically in front of the train.

“I’ve tied cables around my bedroom rail and my PlayStation remote controller to see if it was strong enough to hold my weight.

“Football really was my saviour, it was my escape.”

Wilson, though, refuses to blame his mother for any of his unstable upbringing, saying: “It was my mum on her own, all my siblings in the house.

“We had a three bedroom council house. Food was sparing to come by. That, along with a bit of turmoil.

“I probably have a lot of aggression from that point, but football was a place that I could be aggressive in my position on the pitch and it would be ok. So it was like a release really.”

Champions League places CONFIRMED after Aston Villa VAR controversy as Newcastle have to be saved by Man Utd

Despite all of the success in his career on the pitch, Wilson admitted that he had started to become more aggressive over recent years and he started to gamble.

Though he hailed a Newcastle physio for spotting he needed help and making him take it – which felt “like a weight was lifted” after the very first session.

He added: “Once I started speaking, and revealed everything I’ve been through in life, she was like ‘Wow, how have you got to this point already without not seeing a therapist?’

“I speak to my wife about it, but I didn’t want to blur the lines with our relationship.

“She’s not my therapist, she’s my wife and the mother of my children, so I didn’t want to burden her with problems.

“You can speak to a therapist and it does feel a sense of relief afterwards.

“It’s an investment in yourself and more than worth it. I’m probably learning a lot about myself now – little traits that I have that were obviously triggered by things as a kid. I’m really happy.”

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organizations provide support:

Meanwhile, Wilson appeared to wave goodbye to Newcastle with a tearful solo lap of honour round the St. James’ pitch on Sunday after the Magpies had secured Champions League qualification.

Although Magpies boss Eddie Howe refused to rule out a potential stay.

Howe said: “Let’s wait and see. We’re going to sit down and talk with his representatives.

“What I can say is Callum Wilson is and has been just an incredible footballer for Newcastle.

“Someone who epitomises the spirit that’s got us to where we are really professional. Brave.

“To come here and be the No.9 in the manner and the moment that he did in the club’s history.

“It was a difficult moment and the club needed hope and Callum gave them hope, led the line with that responsibility and the pressure that role brings unbelievably.

“He brings a positivity to the group. He’s a leader within the change room. He’s just been incredible and let’s wait and see what happens.”

Jim Irsay dead at 65: Indianapolis Colts’ owner for 28 years who led franchise to Super Bowl glory dies in his sleep

INDIANAPOLIS Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay has died at the age of 65, the team has confirmed.

The franchise said Irsay “passed away peacefully in his sleep” on Wednesday afternoon.

Details surrounding his death have not yet been released, though he had been battling various health issues in recent years.

Irsay took control of the Colts in 1997 following the death of his father, Robert Irsay, who bought the team in 1972 for $12 million.

“We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon,” the Colts said in a statement.

“Jim’s dedication and passion for the Indianapolis Colts in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed.”

“Our deepest sympathies go to his daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, Kalen Jackson, and his entire family as we grieve with them.”

Irsay’s career with the team began decades earlier when he worked in every department before becoming the NFL’s youngest general manager in 1984, just as the Colts moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis.

After assuming full ownership in the late 90s, he helped guide the team to its first Super Bowl title in Indianapolis and oversaw a string of division championships.

“Jim’s love and appreciation for the NFL in addition to its history, tradition, and principles influenced him to become a steward of the game throughout his 50-plus years in the League,” the statement continued.

He was also known for his philanthropy and passion for music.

“He made philanthropy a daily endeavor. He never hesitated to help countless organizations and individuals live better lives.

Controversial Tush Push AVOIDS ban by NFL after Philadelphia Eagles send Jason Kelce to league meeting

“Music was one of Jim’s passions and the ability to share his band and collection with millions of people across the world brought him tremendous joy. ”

“Simply put, he wanted to make the world a better place and that philosophy never wavered.”

“Jim will be deeply missed by his family, the Colts organization, and fans everywhere, but we remain inspired by his caring and unique spirit.”

“NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said: “We were deeply saddened to learn of Jim Irsay’s passing today.

“Jim was a friend, and a man deeply committed to his family, the game, the Colts, and the Indianapolis community.

“On behalf of the entire NFL, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jim’s daughters and their families, and to his many friends throughout the NFL.”

Irsay was arrested in 2014 for driving under the influence, a charge he later claimed stemmed from being singled out as “a rich, white billionaire.”

He maintained that a recent hip surgery—not alcohol—was the reason he failed the field sobriety test.

Emma mattress FAQs

Are Emma mattresses any good?

For us at Sun Shopping, the answer to this question is a resounding yes.

Whether you opt for the economical Emma Original or the more luxurious Emma Premium mattress, we think you’re getting value for money and giving yourself the best chance of a good night’s sleep.

It is important to do your research to figure out exactly what specifications you need from a mattress.

In the Emma premium mattress review, our tester noted that “Having a high-quality mattress has truly levelled up my sleep game”.

This will help you buy one that’s right for your requirements and needs, and will hopefully ensure longevity and overall satisfaction.

Which Emma mattress is best?

The Emma NextGen Premium Mattress is a great all-rounder.

It has a combination of memory foam, springs and cooling technology, so ticks the boxes for anyone wanting the most bang for their buck.

That’s not to say we don’t love the Emma Original Mattress though, and the single version is ideal for children — check out our Emma Kids’ Single Mattress review to find out more.

Make sure you add the discount code THESUN for an extra 5% off any Emma deal.

Are Emma mattresses any good for side sleepers?

Emma doesn’t exclusively reference mattress technology specifically for side sleepers, however, the NextGen Cooling mattress does offer full body pressure relief and support.

The mattress has seven different pocket spring zones, which provide specific support to different areas of the body.

This particular Emma mattress has received plenty of positive reviews online.

Fans have shared their thoughts on the quality of the design and improved sleep, with one reviewer stating it has created an “optimum balance between support and comfort”.

Our own The Sun shopping tester, “who sleeps chaotically on all sides” also gave the mattress top marks in our best cooling mattress roundup.

What is the life expectancy of an Emma mattress?

Emma offers shoppers a 10-year guarantee on all its mattresses, a policy that starts as soon as you receive your mattress.

If you encounter any problems with your mattress, Emma’s customer service will assist you in resolving the issue including completely swapping out your faulty mattress for a new one.

A mattress is certainly an investment piece, so Emma customers can also make the most of the brand’s 200-day sleep trial.

It means you get enough time to really road-test your mattress in real life and decide if it works for you.

What is the firmness of an Emma mattress?

Emma’s mattresses are rated using a scale to explain how firm their mattresses are.

The firmness of Emma’s mattresses is the product of premium extra-tall springs aiding support and correct spinal alignment.

A majority of Emma mattresses are scored with a medium-firm rating, reviews suggest that the Simba Hybrid is firmer than Emma mattresses.

However, it is important to do your own research to find the mattress suitable for you.

If you do purchase an Emma mattress, you can trial it for up to 200 days to make sure it is right for you.

For further inspiration take a look at our top picks of the best mattress you can buy right now.

What are the disadvantages of the Emma mattress?

While Emma consistently ranks among the UK’s top mattress brands, there are some potential downsides worth considering before you commit.

First, several customers report that Emma mattresses tend to sleep warmer than advertised.

Despite the cooling technology, hot sleepers may find the heat retention problematic, particularly with the all-foam models.

The price point sits firmly in the premium category. Even with impressive discounts, you’re still looking at a significant investment compared to budget alternatives – though the quality generally justifies this.

Some users note a longer-than-average break-in period, with firmness levels feeling excessive during the first few weeks before the materials properly adjust to your body.

What is the bestselling Simba Mattress?

Simba’s bestselling mattress is the Hybrid Pro – a popular choice for its perfect blend of comfort, support and advanced sleep technology.

It combines five layers including Simba’s signature Aerocoil springs and cooling foam, which offer tailored support and temperature regulation.

Our writer Clara Wolsey put it to the test in our Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress review and raved: ‘It remains my favourite mattress that I’ve tested.’

She also rated it for its tailored support, adding: ‘Previously, my partner and I found it very difficult to roll over or get out of bed without waking one another up.

How long does a Simba mattress last?

Simba mattresses aren’t the cheapest options out there, so it’s worth knowing how long your investment will actually last.

While the company backs its products with a 10-year guarantee, the real-world lifespan depends on a few key factors that are worth understanding before you buy.

The good news is that Simba mattresses are genuinely built to last. Their hybrid models combine multiple layers of foam with innovative spring technology, creating a structure that holds its shape much better than traditional mattresses.

Most owners report their Simba mattresses maintaining good support and comfort for 7-10 years with proper care – significantly longer than cheaper foam-only alternatives that can start sagging after just 3-4 years.

To get the maximum lifespan from your Simba, make sure you rotate it regularly (every 3-4 months) and use a mattress protector to prevent stains and moisture damage.

Unlike some cheaper options, Simbas won’t need flipping as they’re designed to be one-sided, making maintenance simpler.

For the price point, Simba’s durability makes them a worthwhile long-term investment for quality sleep.

Are Simba mattresses good for bad backs?

Simba states that you should always seek professional medical advice when it comes to what’s best for your back, and we completely agree – especially if you’re having trouble sleeping.

However, Simba has received a flood of positive comments from sleepers who say their Simba mattress has helped them finally get a good night’s sleep after years of suffering from aches and pains.

The extremely light comfort spring layer is one of the technologies Simba added to help make your sleep as soothing as it can be.

And you shouldn’t feel poked in the back, as Simba claims that its springs are lighter and finer than standard hefty ones.

We’ve rounded up the best mattresses for back pain and included some options from Simba.

It’s also worth checking out our selection of the best memory foam mattresses, as memory foam is great for back pain.

Are Simba refurbished mattresses any good?

Simba offers a range of refurbished mattresses and accessories that come with a reduced price tag – a great choice for anyone in need of a mattress on a smaller budget.

Don’t let the refurbished title fool you into thinking they’re of worse quality, though.

They’ll still provide you with award-winning, restorative sleep – just for a lower cost.

The refurbished items go through rigorous hand testing and inspection to ensure the product is still up to scratch and any part that fails the test is replaced completely.

Lastly, everything is deep cleaned by Simba to hospital standards, so it’s essentially as good as new.

What’s the difference between Simba and Emma?

Simba and Emma are both leading mattress brands in the UK, but they differ in construction and feel.

Reviews suggest that the Simba Hybrid is firmer than Emma mattresses.

However, although Simba mattresses are medium-firm, the squishy top layer makes them feel soft and comfortable to lie on before you feel the firmness underneath.

Obviously, it’s down to personal preference to a certain degree.

However, both Simba and Emma hybrid mattresses contain multiple layers, with foam and springs, and both are available in a range of sizes.

Plus, both offer a 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee on their mattresses.

Therefore, it’s really a case of doing your research to see which is likely to suit you best: from how firm the mattress is, to its cooling layers, materials and price.

Does Simba offer NHS discount?

Yes, Simba offers a 20% discount to all healthcare workers, including care and social workers.

Students, teachers and military personnel are also entitled to the discount.

To take advantage, all you need to do is visit the discounts page on the Simba website and enter some details to verify your eligibility (Simba says this usually takes about thirty seconds).

Once you’ve been verified, you’ll receive a code to use at checkout.

It’s a great way for NHS staff and other healthcare professionals to enjoy high-quality sleep products at a reduced price, as a thank you for their service.
