Only Murders in the Building undergoes huge filming shake-up for season 6

The popular murder mystery series will undergo a huge format change for its highly anticipated sixth season

Only Murders in the Building is headed to London to film the sixth season of Hulu and Disney+’s hugely popular crime comedy.

The hit series starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez has just wrapped up its fifth season with another jaw-dropping finale.

This time, the podcasting trio have been investigating the mysterious murder of the Arconia’s beloved doorman Lester (played by Teddy Coluca) they suspect is connected to the New York mob.

Meanwhile, a rival trio of powerful billionaires, portrayed by season guest stars Christoph Waltz, Logan Lerman and Renée Zellweger, quickly become their prime suspects when they arrive to sabotage their detective work.

With the fifth season coming to an end with another show-stopping finale this Tuesday (28th October), countless fans are already itching for the next instalment, which has now been officially confirmed.

Disney+ and Hulu have also confirmed that Only Murders is eyeing a change of scenery next time as the series is heading to London.

This is the first time the trio will venture out of the United States as part of their investigations, which rarely leave New York.

Season four saw them vacate the confines of the Arconia to head to Hollywood, California, though season six will be at least partially set on a whole new continent.

Spoilers won’t be revealed here, but fans may discover a hint towards Charles, Oliver and Mabel’s next case in the recently released finale.

This is the biggest shake-up to the series yet, as all five seasons of Only Murders so far have revolved around murders in their iconic apartment block.

Whatever awaits in season six, the series is expected to continue to prove a monster hit for Hulu as an army of fans have already devoured the latest episode.

Viewers have already been singing the episode’s praises on X, where one user posted: “What a finale!!! I can’t say everything cuz of spoilers but this is what Television is all about.”

“What a season finale, what a cliffhanger,” another shared. “I didn’t see that coming, can’t wait to see season 6.”

Someone else teased: “That last scene of the Only Murders in the Building finale?! I literally gasped when they revealed who’s the victim next season.”

Big Brother announces major vote shake-up as George removed for ‘unacceptable behaviour’

Big Brother host AJ Odudu announced a huge change to the show’s voting system for Friday’s eviction after housemate George Gilbert was removed from the house earlier today

Earlier today, Big Brother announced that George Gilbert had been removed from the house over “repeated use of unacceptable language and behaviour”. George was one of four housemates facing eviction on Friday, and the public vote has now been halted due to this.

Yesterday, the housemates nominated for the first time, and it was revealed that George, Elsa, Richard and Cameron B would be facing the public vote. George, Elsa and Cameron B received the most amount of votes from their fellow housemates, and Richard was atomically up as he had the cursed eye.

Addressing the situation as she opened Big Brother’s Late and Live tonight, host AJ Odudu said: “George was removed from the Big Brother house today following repeated use of unacceptable language and behaviour.

“As he was up for eviction, the vote has been closed for now. So if you’ve voted already, your votes don’t count. But new votes between Cameron B, Elsa and Richard will be opening tomorrow and you’ll have five new votes. So tune in tomorrow to see the housemates reaction to the news.”

In a statement following George’s removal, ITV told The Mirror: “Following repeated use of unacceptable language and behaviour, George has been removed from the Big Brother House with immediate effect and will no longer participate in the programme.”

It was later revealed that George’s comments will not be aired on the show as they are contrary to broadcast standards. Contestants were told the rules regarding language and behaviour ahead of entering the Big Brother house, receiving training in respect, dignity and inclusion.

However, later on in the day, it was reported that George left his co-stars horrified after making offensive comments which could be interpreted as antisemitic. “Everyone was absolutely disgusted,” a source revealed to The Sun. “Nobody could believe what he said – he was clearly out to shock people.”

It’s been reported that he was called into the Diary Room after making the comments, and was immediately ejected from the show.

George received a warning over his behaviour earlier in the week after imitating housemate Sam during a game of Truth or Dare. He was told by Big Brother in the diary room: “At 11:26, during a game of Truth or Dare, when asked about your least favourite qualities of other Housemates, you said the following, ‘Sam, um too…’, you then went on to mimic Sam using both noises that mocked the way Sam talks and body language that included limp wrists.

“Do you understand how both your language and behaviour could be offensive to Sam, your Housemates and the viewing public?” George then said that he had apologised to Sam after making the comments.

However, The Mirror understands that George was given several warnings for unacceptable language which were not broadcast as they were contrary to broadcast standards.

Big Brother airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Airline to remove bag sizer at gate in major boarding shakeup

American Airlines has moved its bag sizers away from the boarding gate. Now, passengers are being encouraged to check whether their luggage is too big when checking in, rather than just before they enter the aircraft

American Airlines is moving its bag sizers from the boarding gate to the check-in area in a process shakeup.

The airline—the third biggest in the world by number of employees—charges passengers whose carry-on bags are too big to check in.

While the size limits will still apply, American Airlines has moved its bag sizers away from the boarding gate. Now, passengers are being encouraged to check whether their luggage is too big when checking in, rather than just before they enter the aircraft.

That should, in theory, give them more time to repack or remove items from their carry-on bags before they get to the boarding gate, when time and space can feel limited.

READ MORE: Major airline now serving free beer and wine to economy passengers on every flightREAD MORE: Travel experts reveal the best month to fly in 2026 if you want to avoid delays

In an internal memo, American Airlines team members have been directed to “use their judgment” and “err on the side of the customer” when passengers arrive at the boarding area from now on. If there is uncertainty over the size of items to be taken on board with passengers, only luggage that is “clearly oversized” should it be forcibly checked in, the new rules say.

“Team members will continue to monitor carry-on baggage in the lobby and at the gate, and oversized items will still be required to be checked in ahead of the flight,” the carrier said.

American insists that the changes are part of improvements to the boarding process that the carrier has been making since 2024. But some might argue that boarding with carry-on bags is about to become a more subjective process as a result of the rule change, making it harder for passengers to prove that their bag is within reasonable limits.

American Airlines allows passengers one “personal item” and one carry-on. The personal item should fit under the seat in front and be no bigger than 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm). Meanwhile, the carry-on should be able to be placed under the seat in front or in an overhead compartment and cannot exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm).

It’s definitely not something you’d want to get wrong. The most expensive fee for an oversized bag with American is $200 (£150).

The news has been met with a mixed reaction by those who fly regularly.

“Honestly, I think this is an unnecessary and stupid change. The size restrictions haven’t changed, but now there’s no way to check them at the gate? And when the gate agent has to stop someone with an oversized bag, they don’t have proof to back them up?” one person wrote on the American Airlines subreddit.

“I’m sure they were used occasionally by overly-eager gate agents, but I personally have never seen the sizers used except by curious passengers sizing their own bags. There’s no reason for them not to exist; they should just (continue to) only be used when necessary.”

A defender on the new system said: “This is an awesome move. Those gate sizers were never accurate and just made people feel like rubbish.”

Big Brother in huge shake-up ahead of launch for landmark series

Celebrating it’s 25th year, the hit reality competition series Big Brother has revamped its iconic chair as strangers from all over the country descend on the famous house

Iconic moments have happened on the Big Brother chair. It’s where Nikki Grahame had asked “Who is she?” over and over again after being nominated for eviction. It’s where Alison Hammond said she could probably “bend it back” after she broke a table whilst trying to spy on security. And now it’s got a brand new look.

Big Brother, which turns 25 this year, has completely revamped it’s house for the next series, including the diary room. The brand new diary room chair is just as colourful as the rest of the house, complete with green and orange cushioned arches over a giant cushioned eyeball. There, contestants will be able to talk to Big Brother.

This is the third series of the show to air on ITV2. Previously, Big Brother has been on Channel 5. Hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best will return to welcome the housemates from across the UK.

In a chat with The Mirror, AJ said she was “excited” to see the new chair and how the rest of the house had changed. “And of course, we’re all excited to see the new diary room chair and how the house has been tweaked. Bigger? Smaller? Who knows! But what’s certain is another dynamic and exciting series.”

Since 2000, strangers from all over the country have descended on the Big Brother house to compete to be crowned the winner of the show. Housemates not only have to survive being locked in a house together, but they must complete tasks and try not to get evicted from the house. ITV has promised viewers new twists and turns, as well as elaborate challenges and live evictions.

Following each episode, there is a spin-off show, Big Brother: Late & Live. This show gives viewers exclusive content from the house, along with fiery debates and hot takes from a celebrity guest panel. This year will also feature an extra week of the show, bringing it up to seven in total.

Since it started airing on ITV, Big Brother has had a number of memorable moments, not least a romance between 2023 housemates Jordan Sangha and Henry Southan. The two got close on the show and ended up in a relationship for over a year afterwards, before sadly breaking up earlier this year.

This year’s edition of Celebrity Big Brother also saw a romance spark on the show. Pop star Jojo Siwa became close friends with Love Islander Chris Hughes, which eventually developed into a relationship. The two are still together and rumoured to be thinking about marriage.

Will Best said he’d be upset if the pair ever broke up. “If Jojo and Chris don’te last, I genuinely don’t know what I’ll do.” Later, he added that he was excited to celebrate 25 years of Big Brother and thought audiences would be too.

“Bring on the housemates, bring on seven weeks, and bring on a happy 25th anniversary to Big Brother! I think [audiences will] be happy about the extra week.

“Last series could easily have gone on longer, so this will be a nice touch. But the exciting thing is, we never really know what’s going to be new. Fans are already buzzing from the trailer and the Big Brother eye reveal.”

She confirmed: “14 minutes past six is the time. The founding member of the band The Turtles, Mark Volman, has died at the age of 78.”

Following a clip from one of their classic tracks, photographs of Mark flashed across the screen.

She went on: “The band was known for the number-one hits Happy Together and Elenore. Volman passed away yesterday after a brief and unexpected illness, according to his representative.”

Gogglebox shake-up as five new families join Channel 4 show and one couple departs

When the Channel 4 show returns tomorrow night for series 26 there will be a lot of fresh faces lighting up the screen – but what does it mean for the regulars?

Andrew and Alfie
Andrew and Alfie, a married couple with a 30-year age gap, are joining Gogglebox

Gogglebox is to be given a major overhaul with five new families joining the regulars for the new series from their sofas – after just one pair were axed.

Earlier this summer, it emerged that Scottish couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle were leaving the show after producers decided not to invite them back for the 26th run, which starts on Channel 4 tomorrow.

Now two new Scottish duos are among the incoming groups of telly watchers – pals Jake, 27, and Calum, 31, from Glasgow plus sisters Rosie, 68, and Susie, 70, from Edinburgh.

The Gordon family
Among the newcomers are the Gordon family, from Surrey

The show is also to get its oldest contributor in the form of 87-year-old Sara from Yorkshire, who will watch the box alongside her daughter-in-law Lara, 58.

The other two families are the Gordons from Surrey, comprising parents Andre, 49, and Sarah, 47, alongside their daughter Chee, 25 plus married couple Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, from the Cotswolds.

One insider said the changes were to “inject a bit of freshness” into the long-running show, which remains one of Channel 4’s best-loved titles after 13 years on air.

But the injection of new faces could cause stress for some of the Gogglebox regulars, who may feel they are now in danger of being pushed out in the coming months if the new arrivals prove popular.

Jake and Calum
Glasgow-based Jake and Calum are one of the two new Scottish duos brought in to replace outgoing pair Joe and Roisin

The series will showcase the new groupings on screen from tonight at 9pm. Mike Cotton, creative director for production company Studio Lambert, said it was “a delight” to welcome the fresh households into the Gogglebox family, adding: “Along with our much-loved returning cast, we can’t wait to join them in their living rooms and hear their candid thoughts on this weeks most talked about TV.”

They will join regular Goggleboxers pals Jenny and Lee, the Siddiqui family, the Malone family, married couple Giles and Mary, sisters Ellie and Izzi, Welsh married couple David and Shirley, the Plummer brothers, sisters Amira and Amani, the Worthington family, siblings Pete and Sophie, friends Abbie and Georgia, married couple Sue and Steve, siblings Simon and Jane, married couple Ronnie and Annie, pals Danielle and Daniella, married couple Teresa and Anita and parents Michael & Sally, who appear with their teen twins Jake and Harry.

Joe and Roisin took to social media in July to tell fans that they were not returning for the show’s next series. They wrote: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore, we are leaving the Gogglebox family.”

Jenny and Lee from Gogglebox

Thanking the producers, they added: “The experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights! It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.”

A spokesperson for Channel 4 said they wished the pair all the best for the future, adding: “We thank Joe and Roisin for their contributions to Gogglebox over the years.”

‘No 10 shake-up’ and Labour’s ‘asylum crackdown’

The headline on the front page of the Guardian reads: "PM tries to regain policy control from Treasury in No 10 shake-up".

Sir Keir Starmer’s shake-up of his No 10 team as Parliament returns from recess dominates Tuesday’s papers. The Guardian reports the prime minister is attempting to “wrest back control” of economic policy from the Treasury by creating two new roles. Elsewhere, the paper also spotlights the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan with a picture of a man walking past piles of rubble carrying the body of an infant.

The headline on the front page of the i Paper reads: "Starmer seizes grip of Budget after Treasury 'mistakes' hit Labour in polls".

“Starmer seizes grip of Budget” is the i’s take, as the paper says the PM’s move to boost his economic team comes ahead of the critical autumn Budget. It also features a source who claims that Downing Street is “frustrated” at Chancellor Rachel Reeves over policy “mistakes”. Insiders insist Reeves and Sir Keir remain politically close, the paper adds.

The headline on the front page of the Daily Telegraph reads: "Smiling through the pain".

Reeves is “smiling through the pain” declares the Daily Telegraph, as it fills its front page with a picture of an upbeat chancellor leaving the Treasury on Monday. The paper says the PM’s team reshuffle “undermines” Reeves’ authority, quoting one Labour MP who says the move is “a signal that she is in a weak position and it’s deteriorating”. Reeves’ allies say she discussed the shake-up several times over the summer, the paper reports.

The headline on the front page of the Financial Times reads: Starmer acts to arrest slide with shake-up in Downing St".

The Financial Times focuses on what the No 10 rejig means for what it says are Labour’s sliding poll numbers. The paper says the PM’s popularity has been “languishing” and the party’s standing in the polls is “at just 20%”. Also front and centre is the three-way meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trio are pictured smiling and talking on the sidelines of a regional security summit in China.

The headline on the front page of the Times reads: "Refugees to be stopped bringing in families".

Migrants granted asylum will be temporarily stopped from bringing their family members to the UK, the Times reports. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has announced a halt to the refugee family reunion scheme until she can bring forward some conditions. The paper says the decision is an attempt by Labour to “counter the threat” of Reform leader Nigel Farage over immigration.

The headline on the front page of the Daily Mail reads: "3,567 in, zero out".

The Daily Mail takes aim at Labour’s “one in, one out” asylum scheme with the headline “3,567 in, zero out”. The paper says Labour has admitted that no small boat migrants have been sent back to France since the returns deal was signed. It also notes Cooper telling Parliament on Monday that deportations are expected to begin “later this month”.

The headline on the front page of the Metro reads: "I'd be safer in Somalia".

An asylum seeker who has been in the UK for 20 years is asking to be sent back to Somalia because he would feel safer there, the Metro reports. The paper quotes the man named Yusuf saying “this country is not safe” amid rising hostility towards migrants and asylum seekers.

The headline on the front page of the Daily Express reads: "Farage's 'I'll get rid of you' threat to PM".

Nigel Farage says it’s “insulting” that Labour has refused to invite him to the upcoming state banquet for US President Donald Trump, according to the Daily Express. In an interview with the paper, the Reform leader issues a warning to the PM: “I’ll get rid of you”. The paper also teases actress Emily Blunt’s “wild” return to The Devil Wears Prada sequel film.

The headline on the front page of the Daily Mirror reads: "Ban the vapes".

An “e-cig epidemic fear” leads the Daily Mirror. The paper highlights a call from health experts to ban vapes amid fears the devices raise the risk of strokes, cardiovascular disease and asthma. Sharing the top spot, the Mirror previews “unseen pictures” of the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex. The paper says they offer an “extraordinary glimpse into the years that shaped them”.

The headline on the front page of the Daily Star reads: "Emily: my grope hell".

Rivals star Emily Atack details her “set horror”, reports the Daily Star. The actress says she was groped on set or at wrap parties “multiple times” throughout her career by several people in the TV industry.

The headline on the front page of the Sun reads: "Strictly fat jabs alert".

Finally, the Sun issues a “Strictly fat jabs alert”. It reports five stars on Strictly Come Dancing have been taking weight loss jabs ahead of the new series, sparking fears that they “won’t last” the distance on the show.

Loose Women announces huge panel shake-up with brand new line up this week

Loose Women has had one off specials before and this week there will be another change to their panel amid ITV cost cutting exercises

Loose Doctors panel
How the Loose Doctors panel will line up on Wednesday(Image: ITV)

Loose Women will change up their panel for the first-ever Loose Doctors special on Wednesday.

Dr Amir Khan, Dr Zoe Williams, Dr Hilary Jones and Dr Nighat Arif will examine the health issues that matter most to viewers and explain how we can all improve our own wellbeing.

During the lunchtime show, the four ITV Daytime doctors will tackle the taboo topics that people are often afraid to ask about and share their top tips for living a longer and happier life. And it comes after ITV fans accuse Alan Titchmarsh of ‘ruining’ garden as foster parents were left sobbing

READ MORE: Why the new Bonnie Blue documentary may be the worst thing I’ve ever seen on Channel 4READ MORE: John Torode’s businesses collapsed after racking up eye-watering debts

Ahead of the episode, Dr Amir, who often works on Good Morning Britain, said: “This is the first time four of ITV’s Daytime doctors will be on the panel together to look at the health issues that affect us all.

“We’ll be sharing our expert medical advice and having some very candid conversations about the things that our patients are often too embarrassed to talk about, but shouldn’t be, and hopefully giving them the confidence to make the most of their appointments. I’m really looking forward to the episode and hope that viewers will enjoy it, as well as learning some important and potentially life saving tips too.”

This Morning star Dr Nighat added: “I couldn’t be happier sharing a panel with some dear colleagues and friends for this special episode. We will be opening up on some of our own heartfelt health stories and having a number of important conversations about how viewers can look after themselves, as well as sharing our top self-examination tips.

“As doctors, we are also humans and hope that by sharing a little part of our own lives, our patients and viewers know that they’re not alone and sometimes, we’re going through similar things to them.”

The special follows on from other one-off versions of the programme including Loose Men panels on International Men’s Day.

Dr Zoe said: “I’m so excited for this episode of Loose Doctors. While the four of us know each other well, we’ll be sharing some of our own stories and experiences, just as our patients bravely share theirs with us. We hope this offers viewers the chance to get to know us better and helps people feel more comfortable opening up. We’re going to be tackling some of the taboo topics people might not always want to discuss, to empower you to feel confident in understanding and checking your own body, and knowing when to seek help.”

And Dr Hilary, well known for working with Lorraine Kelly on screen, said: “I think viewers are going to love the first-ever Loose Doctors episode.

“You’ll see four of ITV’s Daytime doctors open up about their personal journeys whilst offering some of our tips to look after you and your family. I hope that viewers will learn a lot and be entertained at the same time as we open the Loose Doctors doors for the first time.”

Loose Women has been on ITV since 1999 and normally sees a rotating panel comprised of women discussing issues from a their perspectives, from politics and current affairs to all the latest gossip.

It is one of a number of daytime shows at ITV facing cuts and the daytime panel show will be down to 30 weeks a year in 2026.

It means some of the panelists are likely to lose their jobs.

* Loose Doctors airs on Wednesday 6th August, from 12:30pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.

LAPD undergoes first major leadership shake-up with McDonnell as chief

In his first major shake-up since taking over the Los Angeles Police Department in November, Chief Jim McDonnell has given new assignments to more than a dozen officials from the upper ranks.

Faced with ongoing struggles to woo new recruits and uncertainty around his plans to overhaul the LAPD, McDonnell gave the first indications about how he intends to reorganize by elevating three deputy chiefs — Emada Tingirides, Michael Rimkunas and Scott Harrelson — to top positions and resurrecting a long-dormant bureau.

The moves were announced in a departmentwide email last week but aren’t expected to take effect until later this month.

Tingirides, who lost out to McDonnell in a bid to become chief last fall, becomes assistant chief in charge of the Office of Operations, which oversees patrol functions. She was recently announced as a finalist for the same job in Fort Worth, according to local news reports. Her recent promotion is seen by some inside the department as a move to convince her to stay. She becomes the highest-ranking Black woman in the department’s history.

Harrelson will now be in charge of the department’s training and recruitment efforts as the head of the Office of Support Services, replacing Assistant Chief Daniel Randolph, who is expected to retire in the coming weeks.

Filling out McDonnell’s inner circle are two other holdovers from the administration of former Chief Michel Moore: Rimkunas and Dominic Choi, who served as interim chief until McDonnell took over in November. Choi remained an assistant chief but was named McDonnell’s chief of staff — in effect the department’s No. 2.

The head of the bureau that includes internal affairs, Rimkunas will now run the Office of Special Operations.

McDonnell also resurrected the department’s Human Resources Bureau, which was shut down in 2004 when McDonnell he was a senior official under former Chief William J. Bratton. He didn’t immediately say what the new bureau’s responsibilities will be.

It’s unclear whether McDonnell will have to submit parts of his reorganization plan to the City Council, which in the past has had to sign off on changes to the department’s structure.

When he took the job last year, McDonnell initially said he wanted to spend at least three months studying the LAPD to understand how it had changed since he came up through the ranks. He left in 2010 to become the top cop in Long Beach, then served a term as L.A. County sheriff. His early review timeline was thrown off, he told reporters at a news conference last week, because of the fires in January and the recent protests over federal immigration raids.

The series of major incidents, McDonnell said, presented an unexpected opportunity to evaluate his senior staff to see how they performed “in crisis mode.”

The chief added that he had delayed his realignment for the “outcome of the budget to see where we were” and the completion of a monthslong study of the department by Rand Corp., a global policy think tank brought in last year to conduct a top-down review. The study was recently finished, and McDonnell said he was reviewing its recommendations, as well as those made by the numerous internal working groups he had convened to look at recruitment, discipline and other workplace issues.

Without offering details, McDonnell hinted that another one of his priorities will be beefing up the department’s detective ranks and overhauling the system that handles misconduct complaints against officers, long a source of controversy and frustration.

“I have in rough form what I think it could look like, but I certainly want to get the input from those who are dealing with it on a day-to-day basis on how do we best deal with the nuances of doing the job today with the number of resources that we have,” he told reporters.

McDonnell has come under growing pressure from critics who have said he is moving too slowly to make changes, with more urgency required as the city gets ready to host events such as the next year’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games.

In other personnel moves announced last week, McDonnell moved Deputy Chief Marc Reina from the Training Bureau to South Bureau, where he previously worked as captain, and promoted German Hurtado, the department’s immigration coordinator, to deputy chief over Central Bureau, which has been the epicenter of recent protests.

Hurtado has been named in at least two pending lawsuits by LAPD officials accusing him of covering up unjustified uses of force by officers during the 2020 protests. The city has denied wrongdoing and is fighting the cases in court.

“As far as I know, I’m only named as a witness in those cases, and I’m not at liberty to talk about ongoing lawsuits,” Hurtado said when reached Monday by The Times.

McDonnell also demoted Assistant Chief Blake Chow to his civil service rank of commander — a similar trajectory to McDonnell, who was made to drop a rank during the tenure of former Chief Charlie Beck. Capt. Ray Valois, who helped oversee the department’s response to the Palisades fire, was elevated to commander in the Valley Bureau.

EastEnders fans won’t be able to take their usual Thursday visit to Albert Square tonight, as the soap has been taken off air yet again in another huge schedule shake-up.

The BBC soap has seen huge changes in the schedule over the past few weeks with major sporting events such as Wimbledon and the Women’s Euros broadcasting on the BBC. Although Wimbledon came to an end over the weekend, the Women’s Euros are still in full swing – affecting EastEnders‘ schedule.

The Lionesses are still very much in the running to take home the title with their quarter final against Sweden being broadcast on the BBC tonight from 7pm, wrapping up at 10.15pm. This means that unfortunately there’s no room for EastEnders on tonight’s schedule.

However, EastEnders fans still received their two hour dose of Walford drama this week, as the soap aired a double bill on Tuesday night. The dramatic episodes saw Karen Henthorn reprise her role as Julie Bates after 27 years as Jay Brown contacted her to let her know Nigel was in Walford.

Julie wasn’t best pleased that Nigel and Phil had kept her in the dark, and towards the end of the double bill, she was seen taking Nigel home to Scotland. A heartbroken Phil couldn’t bring himself to say goodbye to his best friend – but is it the last we’ll see of Nigel?

EastEnders fans will have to wait until Monday for the next instalment, and once again, they’ll have to deal with another schedule shake-up. Fans will be treated to another double bill on Monday night, with both episodes dropping at 6am on iPlayer.

Oscar Branning
This week saw the return of Oscar Branning – and he’s set to up the drama next week(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

For those who want to wait until the evening, the first episode will be airing on BBC One at 7.30pm, with the second airing straight after at 8pm.

The soap will air in its usual 7.30pm slot on Tuesday, however will be taken off air again next Wednesday for the second semi-final of the Women’s Euros. Business will commence as usual on Thursday evening, as the soap will be back in its usual 7.30pm slot.

Spoilers for next week tease an explosive week for the soap, as the new owners of the Queen Vic will be revealed. It’s the end of an era for the Carters as Linda and her mother Elaine agreed to sell. Next week, the auction will begin as a bidding war ensues between the Slaters, the Beales and a developer. But who will emerge victorious?

Elsewhere, it looks like Max Branning may not be too far away from returning to Walford as Linda Carter decides to tell Oscar the fact her daughter Annie is his biological half-sister. Oscar’s father Max Branning has no idea Linda’s daughter is his child.

Oscar decides Max needs to know the truth and is keen to tell him, leaving Linda terrified. Lauren Branning is tasked with trying to reason with her brother – is Max’s return sooner than we think?

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Durham propose county cricket shake-up including Grand Final

Durham chairman Phil Collins said in a statement on the club website, external: “We support the 18-county model but, believe the current 10/8 division structure lacks meaningful fixtures as the season progresses.

“The current structure produces a plethora of games in both divisions that do not have any meaning; teams involved in mid table games in the last third of the season onwards do not have any jeopardy… the teams involved cannot get into a title or promotion race and are safe from relegation.

“We don’t believe this produces the intensity of cricket that our great game needs and is something that both players and fans constantly comment on to us.”

The proposal also suggests the T20 Blast should be reduced in size and comprise three groups of six teams each, with the entire competition played before The Hundred begins.

The county said the plans have been drawn up following a Professional Cricketers’ Association survey, which found that 83% of players think the current schedule “harms physical wellbeing”, 72% saying it “hinders high performance”, and over two-thirds claiming mental health is affected by the intensity.

The statement added that other counties have proposed alternative structures, including an 8/10 and a 10/8 division split.

Collins said the idea will be discussed at a members forum on 30 July.

“These proposals aim to reduce workload, enhance performance, and offer more compelling cricket. We believe they represent the best way forward,” he added.

The ECB has been approached for comment.

Zelenskyy nominates Yulia Svyrydenko as new Ukraine PM in cabinet shake-up | Russia-Ukraine war News

President Zelenskyy taps economy minister to lead government in most significant reshuffle since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he has recommended Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko to become prime minister in a significant political shake-up for the war-scarred country.

The announcement on Monday could herald a wider reshuffle in the government, three and a half years into the Russian invasion.

“I have proposed that Yuliia Svyrydenko lead the government of Ukraine and significantly renew its work,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media. “I look forward to the presentation of the new government’s action plan in the near future.”

The recommendation is part of what he called “a transformation of the executive branch” of government in Ukraine.

The two discussed “concrete measures to boost Ukraine’s economic potential, expand support programs for Ukrainians and scale up our domestic weapons production”, Zelenskyy said.

Svyrydenko, 39, gained prominence this year during fraught negotiations around a rare minerals deal with the United States that nearly derailed ties between Kyiv and its most important military ally.

If the change is approved, she would replace Denys Shmyhal, who became prime minister in 2020.

“The government needs a change because people are exhausted,” said Tymofiy Mylovanov, a former economy minister who worked with Svyrydenko.

Mylovanov, who now heads the Kyiv School of Economics, said the changes would likely bring “a sort of freshness” after more than three years of war.

Zelenskyy is also considering naming Defence Minister Rustem Umerov as Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington, he said at a news conference last week.

Zelenskyy met Umerov over the weekend, after which he said, “Ukraine needs more positive dynamics in relations with the United States and at the same time new steps in managing the defence sector of our state.”

Svyrydenko, who is also a deputy prime minister, was appointed to manage Ukraine’s struggling economy months before the Kremlin launched its full-scale assault in February 2022.

Her appointment will require approval by parliament, which has largely united around Zelenskyy since the invasion and is unlikely to vote against the president.

Love Island fans hit out at Harry’s behaviour amid dramatic villa shake-up

Unsurprisingly, Love Island’s Movie Night caused quite the stir in the villa, with the big screen’s revelations causing Helena Ford to confront Harry once again – leaving viewers fuming

Love Island fans were left raging after Sunday night’s episode, after one contestant’s “manipulative” behaviour got too much to take. Harry Cooksley, 30, had rubbed viewers up the wrong way with his popcorn-eating, leaving them feeling ill.

The ITV show’s ever-dramatic Movie Night left islanders reeling after they saw clips of incriminating conversations projected on the big screen for all to see. But it was Harry who left them all fuming, with his partner on the show, Helena Ford, confronting him about his actions.

She told him: “I’m getting fed up with this ‘I only do it to Helena because she lets me get away with it’… you’re making me look stupid again! Literally every person that comes into the Villa says, ‘you let Harry walk all over you.'”

Despite previously breaking up and recoupling, Harry went on to deny intentionally upsetting Helena. But Sunday night’s episode saw viewers take issue with the way he continued to eat leftover popcorn while she was trying to speak to him.

Shakira, who was speaking with Toni, said that watching him eat was making her feel sick. Fans agreed, taking to social media to share their thoughts.

One wrote: “There’s no way I’m trying to have a serious conversation with a man and he’s answering with a mouthful of popcorn not even looking at omg.” Another commented: “Oh my days, Shakira is so right, Harry is making me feel sick too cause WHY IS HE EATING LIKE THAT IS HE FIVE?”

A third fan echoed: “I hate the way Harry ate his popcorn during that conversation with Helena; he doesn’t take anything seriously.” Someone else typed: “I would have f****** thrown that popcorn over Harry if he was eating like that when I was trying to have a serious conversation with him.”

Even Maya Jama had something to say after Harry had been up to his old tricks in Casa Amor. Shortly after she was reunited with Harry, Helena was introduced to dumped islander Rheo Parnell, who had grown close to Harry in Casa Amor. Rheo said: “I don’t think I need to explain what he may have been up to over there. Harry strikes again!”

Helena asked: “How bad are we talking?” Rheo replied: “Well, I mean there were kisses in bed. There was like … cuddles.” Amid discussion about his latest antics, Harry said that he had been “exploring the connection” whilst in the other villa.

Andrada Pop added: “I did ask Harry did he miss Helena and he said he didn’t.” Helena reacted: “To be fair, I think I did say I didn’t miss Harry on the first day either.” Helena and Harry were then seen laughing together over the situation.

Rheo said: “Fair enough.” Love Island host Maya then shared her thoughts, saying: “I don’t know. I probably wouldn’t find it that funny if I was in a couple with someone like that but…”

Jamie Rhodes said: “Yeah, I can’t lie, this is like repeated behaviour. Like you gotta wake up at some point.” After confirming he was talking to Helena, he added: “Personally, I think you deserve more respect.”

Maya – who also confronted Ben Holbrough in the episode over a comment that he made in another scene – said: “Helena, you laugh quite a lot when he’s been doing things. Is that to avoid upset or are you genuinely not bothered?”
