17 splendid things to do in Laguna Beach

For the uninitiated, Laguna Beach is Southern California at its most postcard-worthy, a stretch of the Orange County coastline filled with frothy waves, winding canyons and afternoon beachgoers. Yet it doesn’t take long to realize that it’s not just Laguna Beach’s sand that’s worth digging into.

Laguna Beach, for instance, is art.

The modern history of the beachside community often zeroes in on its artistic legacy. And for good reason. Plein air artists — that is, those dedicated to painting outdoors and capturing the beauty of a landscape or a moment — are believed to have begun descending upon the region in the late 1880s. In the early 1900s, it was plein air artists who established the Laguna Beach Art Assn., which ultimately led to the founding of the Laguna Art Museum.

And today, Laguna Beach stages two of Southern California’s most cherished art events. The Festival of the Arts, home to the summer tradition that is the Pageant of the Masters, and the Sawdust Art Festival continue to define Laguna Beach as an art-forward haven for free thinking.

Laguna Beach is also history.

The aforementioned Laguna Art Museum is one of the oldest artistic institutions in Southern California, its current location dating to 1929. The city’s Marine Room Tavern, established in 1934, is one of the oldest bars in Orange County, the site of the second liquor license ever approved in Laguna Beach. Its Catholic church, St. Francis by the Sea, was built in 1933 and once held the mantle of the smallest cathedral in the world. And the Laguna Playhouse is said to be one of the oldest not-for-profit continuously operating theaters on the West Coast, with a history dating to the 1920s.

And yet Laguna Beach is tension.

Summer crowds, a tourism necessity for the area, also bring with them a host of nuances for locals — traffic, trash, public drunkenness and the risk of dirtying up the city’s pristine beaches, five of which ranked among The Times’ list of the best in the state. It’s a privileged party atmosphere that no doubt once contributed to the area’s spotlight for trashy reality television.

Yet that wasn’t the real Laguna, as Laguna Beach is a community.

Today, it’s a place one can find a magical wonderland dedicated to the joy of fairy tales, and to walk its Coast Highway — or take in its sights via one of the city’s free trolleys — is to find a host of quirky surf shops, chocolatiers, wine and snack outposts, and a bounty of galleries. And, yes, those magnificent beaches.

Love Island fans work out real reason Yasmin was crying in the final after she sparks concern

LOVE Island fans claim they’ve figured out the real reason Yasmin Pettet was in tears during the series finale.

Yas, 24, who finished third with Jamie Rhodes, 26, was spotted crying behind host Maya Jama as she interviewed second-place pairing Shakira Khan and Harry Cooksley.

Emotions were running high on the night and viewers originally believed she was weeping over her friends’ success.

But last night Yasmin revealed her beloved pet cat Miaow Miaow died while she was in the villa and fans think she might have learned the news during the finale.

Yasmin explained she had a gut feeling something wasn’t right while she was in the villa.

And her mum, Mitra, and sister, Zara, told her the white lie that “everything was fine” when they visited as part of the the Meet The Parents episode.

But people are now speculating the sad news somehow got to Yasmin before filming wrapped on Monday night.

One wrote on Facebook: “I bet that’s why she was crying in the background.”

Another said: “Maybe that’s why she was crying during the final as well.”

The reality star spoke lovingly about her cat numerous times in the villa.

Her partner Jamie even gifted her a ring with a paw on it because he knew she loved her cat so much.

Announcing Miaow Miaow’s death, Yasmin wrote on Instagram: “As I’ve spoken about her on the show I’m sure a lot of you will know I have a cat called miaow miaow who’s been by my side for 11 years now.

Viewers confused as Love Island star makes reference to fan nickname for her and ask ‘how does she know?’

“When I was filming Love Island I had a bad gut feeling something
was off and when my mum and sister came into the villa I asked
them and still felt like something was off.”

She continued: “Rightfully they didn’t tell me because I was still in the villa but after the final I called my sister and she told me that miaow miaow had cancer and died whilst I was away filming Love Island.”

Yasmin explained she was doing her best to maintain a visible presence online in light of the news, but it was proving hard.

She said: “I’m trying to be as active as I can be on socials but am taking time for myself to process this heartbreak.

“RIP to my beautiful baby girl, you were so loved and will always be
in my soul.”

Yasmin returned to social media yesterday to thank fans for supporting her on the show.

She said: “My love island journey has been crazy to say the least but I really wouldn’t have been able to do it without my Jamie, Toni and Shakira.

“I feel so grateful and blessed and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Jamie, who affectionately describes Yasmin as having ‘black cat energy‘, made his feelings toward her, writing: “Absolutely smashed it, wouldn’t want to do the journey with anyone else.”

Toni Laites and Cach Mercer were announced as the winners of Love Island 2025.

During the finale, Yasmin’s twin sister Zara and mum Mitra hosted a TikTok livestream.

Speaking in the clip, Mitra said: “What you don’t understand is this is not a paid vote.

“If it’s not a paid vote, you cannot see the results. That means they can say whatever they want.

“Do you understand? For you to see the result – a correct result that people vote – you have to pay cash.

“Because this is free voting, they decide.”

Mitra referenced Yasmin and Dejon writing each other’s names on their boards during a villa game.

The Islanders were asked who they’d couple up with if their actual partner wasn’t in the villa.

She added: “I always knew after that episode that Yasmin’s not going to win – because of the way they edited it.”

The Sun approached ITV for comment.

ITV later released the finale’s voting percentages, as they do each year.

Winners Toni and Cach secured an impressive 33.5 percent of the audience’s support.

Shakira and Harry drew a sizeable 26.2 percent of the votes, while Yas and Jamie were not far behind taking 22 percent.

Aesthetics practitioner Angel, 26, only made her debut on July 17, and managed to secure 18.3 percent of the overall voting audience with Casa Amor boy Ty.

The real reason the West is warmongering against China | International Trade

Over the past two decades, the posture of the United States towards China has evolved from economic cooperation to outright antagonism. US media outlets and politicians have engaged in persistent anti-China rhetoric, while the US government has imposed trade restrictions and sanctions on China and pursued military build-up close to Chinese territory. Washington wants people to believe that China poses a threat.

China’s rise indeed threatens US interests, but not in the way the US political elite seeks to frame it.

The US relationship with China needs to be understood in the context of the capitalist world system. Capital accumulation in the core states, often glossed as the “Global North”, depends on cheap labour and cheap resources from the periphery and semi-periphery, the so-called “Global South”.

This arrangement is crucial to ensuring high profits for the multinational firms that dominate global supply chains. The systematic price disparity between the core and periphery also enables the core to achieve a large net-appropriation of value from the periphery through unequal exchange in international trade.

Ever since the 1980s, when China opened up to Western investment and trade, it has been a crucial part of this arrangement, providing a major source of labour for Western firms – labour that is cheap but also highly skilled and highly productive. For instance, much of Apple’s production relies on Chinese labour. According to research by the economist Donald A Clelland, if Apple had to pay Chinese and East Asian workers at the same rate as a US worker, this would have cost them an additional $572 per iPad in 2011.

But over the past two decades, wages in China have increased quite dramatically. Around 2005, the manufacturing labour cost per hour in China was lower than in India, less than $1 per hour. In the years since, China’s hourly labour costs have increased to more than $8 per hour, while India’s are now only about $2 per hour. Indeed, wages in China are now higher than in every other developing country in Asia. This is a major, historical development.

This has happened for several key reasons. For one, surplus labour in China has been increasingly absorbed into the wage-labour economy, which has amplified workers’ bargaining power. At the same time, the current leadership of President Xi Jinping has expanded the role of the state in China’s economy, strengthening public provisioning systems – including public healthcare and public housing – that have further improved the position of workers.

These are positive changes for China – and specifically for Chinese workers – but they pose a severe problem for Western capital. Higher wages in China impose a constraint on the profits of Western firms that operate there or that depend on Chinese manufacturing for intermediate parts and other key inputs.

The other problem, for the core states, is that the increase in China’s wages and prices is reducing its exposure to unequal exchange. During the low-wage era of the 1990s, China’s export-to-import ratio with the core was extremely high. In other words, China had to export very large quantities of goods in order to obtain necessary imports. Today, this ratio is much lower, representing a dramatic improvement in China’s terms of trade, substantially reducing the core’s ability to appropriate value from China.

Given all this, capitalists in the core states are now desperate to do something to restore their access to cheap labour and resources. One option – increasingly promoted by the Western business press – is to relocate industrial production to other parts of Asia where wages are cheaper. But this is costly in terms of lost production, the need to find new staff, and other supply chain disruptions. The other option is to force Chinese wages back down. Hence, the attempts by the United States to undermine the Chinese government and destabilise the Chinese economy – including through economic warfare and the constant threat of military escalation.

Ironically, Western governments sometimes justify their opposition to China on the grounds that China’s exports are too cheap. It is often claimed that China “cheats” in international trade, by artificially suppressing the exchange rate for its currency, the renminbi. The problem with this argument, however, is that China abandoned this policy around a decade ago. As the International Monetary Fund (IMF) economist Jose Antonio Ocampo noted in 2017, “In recent years, China has rather been making efforts to avoid a depreciation of the renminbi, sacrificing a large amount of reserves. This may imply that, if anything, this currency is now overvalued.” China did eventually permit a devaluation in 2019, when tariffs imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump increased pressure on the renminbi. But this was a normal response to a change in market conditions, not an attempt to suppress the renminbi below its market rate.

The US largely supported the Chinese government in the period when its currency was undervalued, including through loans from the IMF and World Bank. The West turned decisively against China in the mid-2010s, at precisely the moment when the country began to raise its prices and challenge its position as a peripheral supplier of cheap inputs to Western-dominated supply chains.

The second element that’s driving US hostility towards China is technology. Beijing has used industrial policy to prioritise technological development in strategic sectors over the past decade, and has achieved remarkable progress. It now has the world’s largest high-speed rail network, manufactures its own commercial aircraft, leads the world on renewable energy technology and electric vehicles, and enjoys advanced medical technology, smartphone technology, microchip production, artificial intelligence, etc. The tech news coming out of China has been dizzying. These are achievements that we only expect from high-income countries, and China is doing it with almost 80 percent less GDP per capita than the average “advanced economy”. It is unprecedented.

This poses a problem for the core states because one of the main pillars of the imperial arrangement is that they need to maintain a monopoly over necessary technologies like capital goods, medicines, computers, aircraft and so on. This forces the “Global South” into a position of dependency, so they are forced to export large quantities of their cheapened resources in order to obtain these necessary technologies. This is what sustains the core’s net-appropriation through unequal exchange.

China’s technological development is now breaking Western monopolies, and may give other developing countries alternative suppliers for necessary goods at more affordable prices. This poses a fundamental challenge to the imperial arrangement and unequal exchange.

The US has responded by imposing sanctions designed to cripple China’s technological development. So far, this has not worked; if anything, it has increased incentives for China to develop sovereign technological capacities. With this weapon mostly neutralised, the US wants to resort to warmongering, the main objective of which would be to destroy China’s industrial base, and divert China’s investment capital and productive capacities towards defence. The US wants to go to war with China not because China poses some kind of military threat to the American people, but because Chinese development undermines the interests of imperial capital.

Western claims about China posing some kind of military threat are pure propaganda. The material facts tell a fundamentally different story. In fact, China’s military spending per capita is less than the global average, and 1/10th that of the US alone. Yes, China has a big population, but even in absolute terms, the US-aligned military bloc spends over seven times more on military power than China does. The US controls eight nuclear weapons for every one that China has.

China may have the power to prevent the US from imposing its will on it, but it does not have the power to impose its will on the rest of the world in the way that the core states do. The narrative that China poses some kind of military threat is wildly overblown.

In fact, the opposite is true. The US has hundreds of military bases and facilities around the world. A significant number of them are stationed near China – in Japan and South Korea. By contrast, China has only one foreign military base, in Djibouti, and zero military bases near US borders.

Furthermore, China has not fired a single bullet in international warfare in over 40 years, while during this time the US has invaded, bombed or carried out regime-change operations in over a dozen Global South countries. If there is any state that poses a known threat to world peace and security, it is the US.

The real reason for Western warmongering is because China is achieving sovereign development and this is undermining the imperial arrangement on which Western capital accumulation depends. The West will not let global economic power slip from its hands so easily.

Plane passengers discover ‘real’ reason your phone must be on airplane mode

Ever wondered why you have to put your phone on airplane mode during a flight? Here, people share the real reason behind the long-standing rule, and it may surprise you

As your plane ascends, you’re well aware that your mobile phone must be switched to airplane mode. But have you ever pondered why this is necessary, especially considering your phone probably wouldn’t function at 42,000 feet anyway? One curious traveller took to Reddit’s ‘ask’ forum to find out what could possibly go wrong if they used their phone mid-flight and whether it could lead to disastrous consequences.

And they finally uncovered the true reason behind the need to switch off your phone on a plane. They queried: “Why do they ask us not to use our phones during flights? I am just curious, what are the stakes here? Will it go boom?”

A response came: “No. There are two reasons for this:

  1. Against popular thinking, the main reason is that it was feared that as the plane is taking off and landing, the phones would be connecting/disconnecting to multiple phone towers rapidly, which would cause issues with those towers. However, this isn’t really a problem in this day and age, especially. It was a precaution anyway.
  2. It could mess with flight instrumentation, especially the radio. Ever had a speaker or radio open and when you get a call, you can hear sounds from the speaker? This does still happen, but is more rare nowadays as you need to receive GSM call really”.

Another Redditor chimed in: “And to have a better chance that people will listen to the safety briefing. Pay attention, people! It might just save your lives!”

“Honestly, that’s probably 100% the reason. Using your mobile on a plane shouldn’t interfere with any instruments. Doesn’t even make sense. We are surrounded and being bombarded and flying through all sorts of electronic signals. Plus they offer WiFi ON some planes,” someone else added.

Another person shared: “It’s for peace and quiet and to control a herd of people. It’s the only place left on earth where you can disconnect and nobody cares. I hope it never changes”.

One bloke stated: “I’ve read it largely has to do with potential interference with the pilot’s headset”.

When somebody responded saying it’s been tested and showed no interference, he replied: “That small sample size doesn’t dismiss the risk, nor does it take into account future headsets. I’d rather play it safer than sorry during the statistically most dangerous parts of flying”.

What is the real reason you can’t use your phone on a plane?

The genuine reason you’re told not to use your phone for calls or texts during flights is chiefly down to regulations and potential interference concerns, rather than any immediate threat to the aircraft.

Previously, there were worries that signals from numerous phones might potentially disrupt the delicate navigation and communication systems on board, particularly during take-off and landing.

Today’s aircraft are well-protected, and the likelihood of interference is now deemed extremely minimal.

Nevertheless, rules have stayed cautious.

Another factor is that at flying altitude, your mobile would attempt to link with several ground-based cell towers, potentially creating network issues for phone companies and rapidly depleting your battery.

Furthermore, airlines and aviation authorities wish to preserve a peaceful cabin atmosphere, and permitting voice calls might disturb fellow travellers.

For these reasons, you’re usually required to activate aeroplane mode, which switches off cellular connectivity whilst still enabling Wi-Fi access if the carrier offers it.

Therefore, it’s advisable to turn off your phone, or activate flight mode, whenever you step aboard an aircraft.

People are travelling to McDonald’s restaurants in Italy for one strange reason

Dedicated fans of McDonald’s have been racing to Italy where the fast food chain has begun a new promotion. Many are heading overseas to be a part of it and posting the results online

Whilst many fans of McDonald’s collect the fast food chain’s merchandise – most commonly Happy Meal toys – occasionally the company embarks on other promotions to attract customers. For some, that’s meant travelling to Italy just to get their hands on some new ‘Maccies’ goods.

Just as it did last year, McDonald’s in Italy has launched a new adult meal campaign where the toy has been replaced by something much different – a beach towel. One person who travelled across Europe especially took to TikTok to document her adventure. “POV [point of view] You go to Italy to get the McDonald’s towel,” Leonie penned in a caption alongside her video.

After entering the restaurant, Leonie could be seen heading straight to the touchscreen ordering system, where she picked out the “nuovi teli mare” [new beach towels] option.

“Hoping for the ice cream or the burger,” she continued. Indeed the McDonald’s Italy website reveals there are four towels in the range, featuring a Big Mac, a drink, fries and a McFlurry ice cream.

However, after opening her paper bag, she was disappointed to realise she’d been given the drink version. “Not the freaking soda,” she exclaimed. Despite her modest following of just 228 on the social media platform, 1.4 million TikTok users tuned in.

Elsewhere, a second McDonald’s fan from Australia made the mammoth trip to Europe to get her hands on the coveted merch. “I travelled all the way to Italy to secure a McDonald’s beach towel,” confirmed Ana in a clip, which has also been viewed 1.4 million times.

Her grand reveal saw her become the proud owner of the fries design, meanwhile, as she Ana pointed out she was actually in Sardinia rather than the Italian mainland.

Writing in response, one TikTok user quipped: “This is actually really dangerous because now we’ve all had to book flights to Italy to get a McDonald’s beach towel.”

A second replied: “What! I’m going to Italy on Monday. I’m gonna go to McDonald’s.”

A third person praised: “I literally told my parents all about it and we are in Italy right now and we drove to McDonald’s and my parents are getting me one.”

Whilst a fourth joked: “The only thing my six-year old enjoyed in Italy.”

And in response to questions from other intrigued McDonald’s lovers, Ana explained: “You have to order specific meals! There is an option at those kiosks that tell you which ones you need to order to get the towel.”

If you’re tempted to travel to Italy to snap one up for yourself, be wary that McDonald’s Italia says of the promotion: “Offer valid at participating McDonald’s locations. While supplies last. Purchase of a Large McMenu or Happy Meal includes a Beach Towel.

“Check prices at participating McDonald’s locations. Beach towels cannot be sold separately. You cannot choose the design of your beach towel.”

Immigration judges fired by Trump administration say they will fight back

Federal immigration judges fired by the Trump administration are filing appeals, pursuing legal action and speaking out in an unusually public campaign to fight back.

More than 50 immigration judges — from senior leaders to new appointees — have been fired since President Trump assumed office in January. Normally bound by courtroom decorum, many are now unrestrained in describing terminations they consider unlawful and why they believe they were targeted.

The reasons, they believe, include gender discrimination, decisions on immigration cases played up by the Trump administration, and a courthouse tour with the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat.

“I cared about my job and was really good at it,” Jennifer Peyton, a former supervising judge, told the Associated Press last week. “That letter that I received, the three sentences, explained no reason why I was fired.”

Peyton, who received the notice while on a Fourth of July family vacation, was appointed judge in 2016. She considered it her dream job. Peyton was later named assistant chief immigration judge in Chicago, helping to train, mentor and oversee judges. She was a visible presence in the busy downtown court, greeting outside observers.

She cited top-notch performance reviews and said she faced no disciplinary action. Peyton said she’ll appeal through the Merit Systems Protection Board, an independent government agency Trump has also targeted.

Peyton’s theories about why she was fired include appearing on a “bureaucrat watchdog list” of people accused by a right-wing organization of working against the Trump agenda. She also wonders about a courthouse tour she gave Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the minority whip, in June.

Durbin blasted Peyton’s termination as an “abuse of power,” saying he’s visited before as part of his duties as a publicly elected official.

The nation’s immigration courts — with a backlog of about 3.5 million cases — have become a key focus of Trump’s anti-immigration crackdown. The firings are on top of resignations, early retirements and transfers, adding up to 106 judges gone since January, according to the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, which represents judges. There are currently about 600 immigration judges.

Several of those fired, including Peyton, have recently done a slew of interviews on local Chicago television stations and with national outlets, saying they now have a platform for their colleagues who remain on the bench.

“The ones that are left are feeling threatened and very uncertain about their future,” said Matt Biggs, the union’s president.

Carla Espinoza, a Chicago immigration judge since 2023, was fired as she was delivering a verdict this month. Her notice said she’d be dismissed at the end of her two-year probationary period with the Executive Office for Immigration Review.

“I am personally committed to my career. We’re not political appointees,” she told AP. “I’m entitled to a reason.”

She believes the firings have disproportionately affected women and ethnic minorities, including people with Latino-sounding surnames like hers. She plans to take legal action before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which has also shifted focus under Trump.

“There’s a very strong pattern of discriminatory factors,” she said.

Espinoza thinks another reason could be her decision to release a Mexican immigrant falsely accused of threatening to assassinate Trump. Ramón Morales Reyes was accused by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem of writing a threatening letter. But the claims fell apart as Wisconsin authorities determined that Morales Reyes was framed by a man who had previously attacked him.

Espinoza said she felt pressure given the public scrutiny, media coverage and Noem’s statements about Morales Reyes, which weren’t corrected or removed from social media.

“It’s hard to silence the noise and just do your job fairly when there’s so much distraction,” she said. “I think I did. And I stand by my decision as having been a fair one to release an individual who I believe was twice victimized.”

The Executive Office for Immigration Review, part of the Justice Department that oversees the immigration courts, declined to comment on the firings through an agency spokesperson.

Peyton said she isn’t sure that working as an immigration judge is still her dream job.

“It’s important that everyone in our country knows what’s happening in our immigration courts,” she said. “The Department of Justice that I joined in 2016 is not the same one now.”

Tareen writes for the Associated Press.

I visited the UK’s ‘prettiest’ seaside town and won’t be going back for one reason

It is often named as one of the prettiest seaside towns in the UK and is a popular tourist spot – but there’s one major reason why I won’t be returning with my family

The view from the top of Robin Hood's Bay
The view from the top of Robin Hood’s Bay(Image: Rebecca Koncienzcy)

Before I begin, I must clarify that I don’t usually criticise seaside towns. Coming from New Brighton in Merseyside, I’m well aware of the challenges faced by Northern coastal towns.

However, during our family’s UK staycation last summer, we embarked on a mini tour of Yorkshire and, for the most part, thoroughly enjoyed it. But there was one location that I believe is overrated – Robin Hood’s Bay.

It consistently ranks as one of the top seaside towns to visit and features prominently in lists of the most picturesque coastal towns.

Granted, the old fishing village is charming, but having visited once, I doubt I’ll return as a tourist, and here’s why.

The beach. Living right next to a stunning golden sand beach has perhaps spoiled me, making our trip to Robin Hood’s Bay somewhat underwhelming, reports the Express.

While we adored the journey down the town’s winding streets, brimming with boutique shops, ice cream parlours and quaint cafes, the beach itself fell short of my expectations.

The sand seemed drab and muddy, flies were abundant, and there was an unpleasant sewage odour in the air on the day of our visit.

However, it is dog-friendly if you wish to bring your furry friend along.

The sand at Robin Hood's Bay
The sand at Robin Hood’s Bay wasn’t what I was used to(Image: Rebecca Koncienzcy)

After settling in for the morning, my husband and eldest son ventured off to explore the nearby rock pools, which they found intriguing but not unique.

The bay wasn’t overly crowded when we visited, though there’s been chatter about the surge in tourists to Robin Hood’s Bay in recent years. This influx has reportedly become a strain and is driving up property prices.

After a day at the beach, you’re faced with the daunting climb back uphill to the car park – though we did pause for fish and chips on our way, which was a treat.

Robin Hood’s Bay town is charming, picture-perfect in spots, with friendly and welcoming locals. However, for families, I believe there are superior beaches elsewhere.

That being said, I can envision a couple relishing a romantic staycation here, with plenty of dining options after strolling hand-in-hand through the cobblestone streets.

While I likely won’t be returning, I reckon some might adore exploring this Instagram-worthy town as an ideal way to spend an afternoon.

Many of the cottages fall within the conservation area, meaning they’ve retained their original charm.

There’s also a museum where you can delve into the town’s history, and regular ‘ghost walks’ are on offer.

‘Mum asked to swap seats on plane for pathetic reason – it quickly escalated’

A woman has left people divided after a mum asked her to swap seats with her son for a ‘stupid’ reason, but she branded her as selfish and accused her of ‘making a scene’

Everybody has their preferred plane seat, which is likely to be a window or an aisle. The middle seat is often one that’s dreaded – especially if you’re sitting next to random people. But when one woman asked if she could swap with the occupant of a window seat on the plane for a “stupid” reason and was told no, she was seething.

Posting a video of her side of the interaction, @life_in_mini_stories shared a clip of a woman sitting in a window seat, minding her own business. Of course, many times when you occupy these seats, you’ve paid an additional fee for the pleasure.

She shared a woman allegedly said to her: “Excuse me, would you mind switching seats? My son really wants to sit by the window. He just loves watching the clouds.”

The female responded by saying she couldn’t switch, because she “picked this seat ahead of time”. The woman in the video also shared she also likes looking outside during a flight.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

The mum was incensed already, saying she didn’t understand why the woman wouldn’t swap with her, pointing out “nobody has ever refused before”.

She also seethed: “You must not have kids; otherwise, you’d know it’s normal to give your seat up for a child. Or do you want him crying for the whole flight?”

The woman in the video explained it wasn’t her “problem” if the child was crying, stating once more that she wouldn’t be giving up her seat.

“If you wanted your son to sit by the window, you should’ve planned ahead and booked a window seat,” she pointed out.

The mum said she wasn’t “paying extra just because one person thinks she’s smarter than everyone else”. She also continued her attack, saying: “You’re a grown woman, have some shame,” accusing her of “making a scene”.

But the female responded by pointing out she knows she’s a “grown woman,” and that’s why she books her seat “ahead of time instead of guilt-tripping strangers into giving theirs up”.

The mum accused her of not caring about other people’s feelings, or children, branding her as “disgusting”.

In the comments of the video, someone wrote: “You’re 100% in the right and she has absolutely no right to ask.”

Another added: “Asking is okay, but she needs to take no for an answer.”

“While I agree that I’d keep my seat, I also think the mother of the child has a right to ask as much as I have the right to say hell no,” somebody shared.

A man seethed: “NEVER give up a seat you prepaid extra for! ESPECIALLY to accommodate those who tried to be clever by not paying for seats they wanted.”

Someone joked: “You’re teaching that child and parent a great lesson… In the real world you, #1 plan ahead, #2 stand your ground, #3 you can’t get what you want by crying.”

Love Island fans gutted as they ‘uncover major reason’ Billykiss and Cach won’t last

Love Island fans were over the moon when they saw Billykiss and Cach have a one on one chat – but others have ‘worked out’ why they won’t work on the outside

There were tears and revelations in tonight’s Love Island, as the Islanders came to terms with what happened during last night’s shock recoupling. Amid all the drama, Boris and Billykiss called it quits.

Billykiss was later seen chatting to Cach who had broken things off with Toni – and fans who had been rooting for the couple were ecstatic. However, other fans were left gutted as they uncovered a major reason the two wouldn’t work on the outside – and it’s to do with a former Islander.

Boris and Billykiss met during Casa Amor and it seemed like they formed an instant connection. However, during last night’s recoupling speech, fans noticed there was something off between the pair – as Billykiss didn’t gush over her partner.

Billykiss and Cach
Billykiss and Cach were seen having a chat in tonight’s episode

In tonight’s episode, it became evident that the initial spark between the pair had disappeared – as they called it quits. Billykiss then told Cach the news. She made it clear she wanted to get to know Cach – and they both agreed to get to know each other as well as others.

Before entering the villa, it was rumoured Billykiss had previously dated season 8 finalist, Dami Hope. Cach and Dami also happen to be friends – leaving fans gutted.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter one fan penned: “Billykiss and Cach is not gonna happen cos Billykiss is his friend’s ex #loveisland,” while another agreed: “billykiss is damis ex girlfriend and dami is cach best friend (in case ppl are wondering why they aren’t exploring each other)”.

“Please do not suggest Billykiss and Cach coupling up. That’s Dami’s ex (Cach’s best friend), and he’s trying to keep it respectful,” said a third.

However, other fans were more hopeful: “now let’s hope CACH AND BILLYKISS can get together,” said one, as another agreed: “pls i just want billykiss x cach.”

Boris on the other hand, wasted no time in getting to know another bombshell however, as he quickly made his move on Harry’s ex Emma. Things went from steamy to steamier as Boris asked Emma whether she wanted to spend the night in the Hideaway, before sharing a kiss.

Emma was previously coupled up with Conor, however he called things quits as he thought Emma was becoming too involved in the drama with her ex Harry. He’s now coupled up with Shakira who he’s been friends with from the start.

How will their relationship progress?

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Danny Dyer shares real reason he’d turn down knighthood

EastEnders legend Danny Dyer has revealed he’s planning on following in his ‘hero” Harold Pinter’s footsteps by turning down a knighthood if he’s ever offered the accolade

Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer has shared why he’d turn down a knighthood.

The 47-year-old actor says that he was too “anti-establishment” for the title which are given to individuals by the monarch for a significant contribution to society.

He told Radio Times that he’d follow in the footsteps of his “hero” Harold Pinter, who turned down a knighthood back in 1996.

Nobel-winning playwright Pinter declined the honour of a knighthood offered to him on behalf of the late Queen Elizabeth II by former prime minister John Major, but later accepted the award of Companion of Honour in 2002.

When asked if he’d ever been approached about appearing on the New Year’s Honours list, Danny explained: “Have I f! Harold was my hero and turned down a knighthood.

“He was anti-establishment as well, so I don’t think it’s for me.”

Danny became a household name acting in EastEnders from 2013 to 2022 as fan favourite Mick Carter and has since gone on to star in Disney’s hit series Rivals, Sky comedy show Mr. Bigstuff, and an upcoming Irish film Three Quick Breaths.

It comes after Danny left his daughter Dani Dyer horrified with his honeymoon confession.

During a recent episode of their podcast Live And Let Dyers, the Love Island winner opened up about her romantic getaway with new husband and West Ham star Jarrod Bowen, while proud dad Danny managed to overshare in true Dyer fashion.

Back from her sun-soaked trip to Lake Como, Dani revealed the newlyweds were hit with gloomy weather but still made the most of their honeymoon bubble.

“The weather was terrible, it rained for three days but we were very lucky, because it always stopped raining when we went for lunch and for dinners and stuff,” Dani told her dad on the pod.

While the couple had hoped for some sunbathing time, Dani admitted they swapped tanning for telly, champagne and baths.

She added: “We just could never sunbathe, and there’s not really much to do there so, we just binged the whole series of MobLand. We ate and I’d just drink champagne and have loads of baths.”

However, it wasn’t long before Danny spun the convo onto his honeymoon and things got very a little too honest.

He said: “To be fair, you shouldn’t really be getting out of bed a lot in your honeymoon because me and your mother ended up in Florence, and you know, we was appalling!

“I mean, honestly, I look back on it and I think, ‘f****** hell! How on Earth did I manage to get in those sorts of positions!.”

A shocked Dani responded saying: “Oh, you’re disgusting!” before he hit back with: “What do you mean disgusting? There was two people sharing their love. Them days are long gone now!”

Death in Paradise’s Tobi Bakare shares real reason for exit from BBC show as he returns

Death in Paradise’ JP Hooper, played by Tobi Bakare, is making a comeback to the show after departing the BBC programme in 2021 after seven years on the island of Saint Marie

Death in Paradise fnas were thrilled when the programme returned to BBC for a fresh series, showcasing familiar faces alongside newcomer DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet).

Nevertheless, there’s a recognisable character making their way back to Saint Marie after leaving in 2021. Performer Tobi Bakare, who played JP Hooper on the enduring BBC drama for seven years, chose to step away from the role.

Viewers of the BBC favourite watched the beloved character’s departure after Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) presented him with an opportunity elsewhere.

Taking up the fresh role, JP moved his family and departed at the end of series 10. The performer revealed that he sensed his stint on the programme was coming to an end three years before his character bid farewell to Saint Marie.

Death In Paradise season 14 will see the return of Tobi Bakare as Sergeant JP Hooper for episode one.

He told RadioTimes that the realisation struck him during filming for series seven whilst in a church.

He explained: “The preacher mentioned seven years in a message. As soon as he mentioned seven years, I don’t know what happened. It just clicked.

“It was like a moment of realisation. I had three more years left. It was three more years until it would be seven years, but it just hit me so hard. At this time, my wife was in the UK, and I told her that I know when it’s going to be time for me to leave the show.

“But I wanted her to go away, pray about it, and think about it. She’d done so, and called me up the next day, and said, ‘2020’. So the exact time of the seven years. So we were like, ‘Yeah, that’s the time.’ That’s the actual reason.”

Although Tobi revealed this to co-star Tahj Miles, who portrays Officer Marlon Pryce, their on-screen partnership almost made him reconsider his decision to leave.

He admitted: “You were the one that created the conflict in between me leaving because we found the flow.”

Tahj’s character was introduced in season 10, and despite some initial friction with JP, they eventually formed a strong bond.

However, it remains uncertain how their relationship will evolve upon JP’s return. Fans were overjoyed by the news, as revealed on Death in Paradise’s official Instagram, with comments flooding in.

One thrilled viewer exclaimed: “So nice to see Tobi back, loved his character,” while another expressed: “I miss you JP!” A fan posted: “OMG I hope we get JP for more than one episode!” With another remarking: “Hope JP is back to stay!”

Another wrote: “Yayyy! Would LOVE to have JP back for several episodes,” and another simply enthused: “Ahhhh JP is back!”

Seasons one to 14 of Death in Paradise are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Pilots are ordered to fart in front of each other for alarming reason

Airline pilots are told they should let rip in the cockpit, according to an air hostess who has revealed some wild facts from her experiences in the sky

It’s one of those taboo habits that most travellers would agree is just not on.

Farting on a plane is simply wrong for the same reason car wind and lift trumps are ‘illegal’ – the victim is trapped and cannot escape.

Sitting next to another passenger with wind is indeed a very unfortunate event and a rotten start to your holiday or trip. You either have to keep getting up out of your seat to let them go to the toilet every time they need to privately pop off, or you suffer the revolting indignation of breathing the foul air that has blasted out directly from their intestines into your lungs.

However, if you’re a pilot rather than a passenger, you will have been told you MUST toot freely while in the cockpit, according to an one Argentine flight attendant.

Barbara Bacilieri, also known as Barbie Bac to her almost 2.65milion YouTube million followers, claims pilots are “prohibited” from holding in their gas because the discomfort it causes can distract them from their crucially important role.

To make matters worse, flatulence is heightened when the plane reaches an altitude of 30,000 feet. “At high altitudes, atmospheric pressure is lower, which increases the volume of internal gases,” she explained. “This can cause discomfort and distraction in the cockpit when the pilots should be focused on doing their job, not in pain from being full of gas. That’s why it’s always recommended that pilots, if they have to, just release them.”

Her wild assessment is even backed up by a 2013 study by Danish and British gastroenterologists. Hans Christian Pommergaard, Jakob Burcharth, Anders Fischer, William Thomas and Professor Rosenberg told the New Zealand Medical Journal that holding your farts in may seem preferential but they suggested that for the sake of their health and comfort, passengers and crew should set them free.

Not doing so could lead to pain, bloating, indigestion, stress and even nausea, they said. According to the Sydney Morning Herald they concluded: “There is actually only one reasonable solution – just let it go.” The medics did recognise that air cabin quality may be diminished for other passengers though.

The gassy dilemma also applied to the cockpit and pilots, the specialists found. “If the pilot restrains a fart, all the drawbacks previously mentioned, including diminished concentration, may affect his abilities to control the airplane. If he lets go of the fart his co-pilot may be affected by its odour, which again reduces safety on board the flight.”

Barbie Bac also claims the pilots eat different meals – not to see who can produce the biggest back draft but so they don’t both suffer another unfortunate bowel incident. “The commander and the copilot choose different meal options. One will choose chicken and the other will choose pasta,” she says.

This apparently is to lessen the chances of them both getting food poisoning, which would mean no one would be able to fly the plane – not ideal. “It’s almost always the captain who makes the choice, and the copilot is the one who has to accept the alternative,” explained Bacilieri, who works for a Spanish budget carrier.
