The grim reality of a tourist hotspot has been exposed as ‘thousands’ of holidaymakers were filmed queueing for an Instagram picture at 6.30am. Tayyba Adeel woke up early to secure a cinematic sunrise snap on her trip abroad.

Unfortunately, it seems like every other visitor on the holiday island had the same idea. The Brit was left stunned after joining a queue of ‘thousands’ of tourists waiting to get a picture in front of the iconic blue dome.

According to Tayyba, tourists flooded the streets of Santorini, known for its whitewashed cave houses, blue-domed churches, and vibrant sunsets. Santorini sees around 3.4m visitors every year – with the huge number of travellers creating long queues for the perfect holiday photo.

Posting the clip online, the video racked up over 110,000 views. Tayyba said: “The famous Santorini blue dome photo spot at 6.30am. The whole internet got the same travel tip. Social media ruined it (Santorini). You only see people without noticing the beauty of the place.”

The footage shows Tayyba walking up the huge line, where she claimed ‘thousands’ of tourists waited. One woman in her wedding dress with her photographer was also sitting waiting for her turn to get her dream snap.

Members of the public have slammed the long queues. One viewer said: “I’d be p*ssed if this was outside my home or rental.”

Another commenter said: “What a waste of a holiday.”

One other person added: “People are so embarrassing.”

A British holidaymaker has captured the moment hundreds of guests queued from 7.30am before racing for sunbeds when a hotel pool opened in Benidorm. Teaching assistant Hayley Newland, 39, from Brighton, was staying with her family at a hotel when she witnessed the scramble.

Hayley said she had never experienced anything like it, despite being familiar with the infamous holiday sunbed rush. The footage shows a large crowd waiting behind a barrier before security guards open the pool area at 9am.

As soon as the barrier lifts, guests stream through in a bid to claim their spot. Hayley said the same thing happened every morning during her 10-day stay, with some holidaymakers beginning to queue as early as 7.30am. She said: “It was madness, I have never experienced anything like this before. I would watch this all happening from the breakfast hall.”

Despite the dramatic scenes, Hayley said the rush was ultimately unnecessary – as she had no trouble finding sunbeds once the crowds had dispersed. She said: “Once the chaos was over, I would go and find some beds for my family with no problem.”

She described it as “chaos for no reason”, but admitted it was also entertaining to watch. The footage is likely to reignite the debate among holidaymakers over whether it is ever worth getting up at the crack of dawn to bag a sunbed.
