Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Rodrygo BOOST, Eze updates, multiple Prem clubs chase Gunners winger – latest

Birmingham interested in former Arsenal star

Birmingham City are interested in the signature of Alexander Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The 32-year-old plays his football for Turkish giants Besiktas, who are reportedly willing to allow the former England international to move on a free transfer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made almost 200 appearances for the Gunners in his six-year spell with the club.

He came through the Southampton academy and also played for Liverpool before moving abroad.

Arsenal’s unlikely star

Arsenal cruised to a 1-0 victory over Man Utd in their opening game of the4 season, but the difference maker proved to be a surprising name.

All eyes were on new forward signing Viktor Gyokeres to open his competitive tally with the club

But it was defender Riccardo Calafiori who would nod in at the back post after Utd keeper Altay Bayindir fluffed his lines attempting to punch a corner away.

Mikel Arteta is determined to deploy Calafiori higher up the pitch than his size and position might usually dictate, and he could be one to watch this season for his attacking contirbutions.

Broadcast change causes Arsenal controversy

Arsenal found themselves at the mercy of a new broadcast rule introduced for the upcoming Premier League season during their season opener against Man Utd.

Captain Martin Odegaard was caught in the Old Trafford tunnel at half-time and interviewed on camera regarding the game’s events so far.

The out of breath Norwegian said: “It has been a bit too hectic at times.

“So much space is too open, we need to control it a bit better.

“When we get the ball, pick the right moments and be a bit more accurate when we counter.”

The Gunners went on to win the game 1-0 and get their title challenge off to a flyer.

The new interview type was introduced for the upcoming campaign to mixed reception from fans and former pros.

But not everyone enjoys the new insight, with fans questioning the quality of interview that broadcasters will get out of players in such high pressure situations.

Xabi Alonso speaks out on Rodrygo

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed his position on Arsenal target Rodrygo.

It was uncertain where the Brazilian would fall into the newly appointed boss’ plans, but the Spaniard appears to have found a place for him.

He said: “There are many rumors in the summer, but I’ve seen him well and I count on everyone.

“I count on Rodrygo for sure, 100 per cent.”

Mikel Arteta defends Gyokeres debut despite fans’ uncertainty

The Gunners boss said: “He did a lot of things very good. You can tell, especially in our high pressing, the rhythm that we demand, especially in the first half, we’re giving a bit too much time.

“It’s something that we have to work on, especially there.

“And then in the finalising situation, he didn’t have that many chances to do that because, as I said, on the previous action before we had to play that last ball that the line was standing still with 40 metres behind, we managed to put the ball through to exploit his quality.

“But overall, coming away to Manchester United, winning your first game with Arsenal, it’s a good start.”

Eze battle nears its conclusion

Arsenal are set to lose out on priority target Eberechi Eze, if reports from Fabrizio Romano are to be believed.

North London rivals are offering up to a £60million package including add-ons for the England international.

The 27-year-old has been hugely influential in attack for Crystal Palace since arriving in 2020.

He appeared to have opened the scoring with a free-kick in the Eagles’ season opener against Chelsea, before it was ruled out due to Marc Guehi’s proximity to the wall.

Sesko deal takes twist

Man Utd’s tussle with Newcastle over Benjamin Sesko has welcomed a new twist.

The Red Devils and the Magpies have been hot on the heels of the Slovenian striker, 22, in recent weeks.

And now, according to German outlet Bild, Sesko has told both clubs that he is only opening to joining them.

Sesko informed his agent that he will choose between either Man Utd or Newcastle if he were to leave RB Leipzig this summer.

The chat allegedly took place during a meeting on Sunday after Sesko was left out of Leipzig’s squad for their friendly against Atalanta.

Newcastle made their first move on Saturday with a club-record offer worth £69.8million including add-ons.

But that was knocked back by Leipzig who are now demanding £70million guaranteed.

The total package is expected to exceed £70million when the clubs include add-ons.

Everton agree Dewsbury-Hall deal

Everton have reached an agreement with Chelsea over the transfer of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The deal includes a £25million fixed fee with add-ons which could take it up to £28/£29m.

Newcastle set to re-enter race for Guehi

Newcastle are set to go back in for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to The Times.

However, the Magpies are not willing to pay more than £40million.

Palace currently value him at £50m.

Everton make improved Dibling bid

Everton have tabled a fresh bid to sign Tyler Dibling from Southampton, according to The Athletic.

The offer is understood to be in the region of £40million including add-ons.

However, Southampton are expected to reject it and demand a higher fee.

Burnley reach Ugochukwu agreement

Burnley have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, according to The Athletic.

The 21-year-old has been granted permission to undergo medical tests.

Should all go to plan, he will pen a five-year deal.

Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Eze ‘open’ to Gunners move, Trossard ‘wanted by two Prem clubs’, Saliba contract update

Eze ‘keen’ on Emirates move

Eberechi is eager to up sticks from Selhurst Park and move to the Emirates, it’s been claimed.

Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I’m told that the negotiation club to club has not started yet. But sources at Crystal Palace expect Arsenal to arrive for Eze.

“Why? Because Arsenal have been in contact for months now with the agents of Eze, because Eze is very appreciated by Arsenal, because Arsenal still want to add the player if they will have the opportunity to.

“They spoke to the player several times and the player is also very keen on a move. So Palace expect Arsenal to arrive.”

Merino talks Spurs loss

Mikel Merino reckons Arsenal’s loss to Spurs can be used as a catalyst for a solid start to the new Premier League season.

The Spain international said: “Obviously, winning is a priority for us, but in pre-season, there are other things that have a lot of value, like getting fit, keeping that connection with the fans here in this amazing city.

“We adapted quickly to the pitch, to the opponent, I think we dominated most of the game.

“The result is obviously the worst part, but we have to take the positives.

“Obviously, this feeling is going to be the gasoline for the season to keep growing, keep learning and hopefully go upwards.”

Arteta praises Dowman

Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on Max Dowman for his displays during pre-season.

He said: “I’m not surprised, he’s been really impressive with what he’s done again at his age, the way he has entered the matches and with that determination, that quality, that decisiveness I would say.

“The same with the other kids that played, so it was another exposure to them, which is not easy, especially at that age.

“They certainly have done so, so well and made a lot of people proud.”

Although Evans will no longer have an influence on the pitch, he is now expected to be given a new role behind the scenes.

The Athletic reports that Man Utd want to retain the ex-defender following the expiry of his contract.

Evans’ new staff role will see him put in charge of loan deals for emerging talents.

The United hierarchy were impressed with his influence off the pitch during his time as a player.

He regularly offered advice to young players and taught them about United’s heritage.

Evans also spoke passionately about staff members losing their jobs in the first round of redundancies last summer during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The former Northern Ireland international made 241 appearances for Man Utd across two spells.

He first spent 11 years at the club between 2004 and 2015 before joining West Brom.

The Prem: Former Hundred champion Rob Calder on rugby’s top-flight relaunch

A record 1.26m television audience for Bath’s victory, combined with demand outstripping supply for the 82,000 tickets, suggests the Premiership is nurturing new fans.

There has been big growth in engaging supporters between the ages of 18-34, while Red Bull’s reported interest in buying Newcastle Falcons would tie in perfectly with a parallel aim of attracting youth-orientated brands.

It is a brief Calder has worked to before.

Before he arrived in rugby, he was the commercial director for the Hundred, the neon-spattered, slog-heavy cricket format that launched in 2021 and raised more than £500m with the sale of its franchise sides earlier this year.

That was revolution. In rugby, Calder is aiming for evolution.

“With the Hundred, we were clear that a distinctly new approach was going to be critical to get to the next generation,” he says.

“When I did research on the Hundred though I looked at rugby clubs and how they compared in terms of appeal to younger audiences and they actually performed pretty well.

“There are some strong brands in there – be it Harlequins or Leicester Tigers or others – with legacy and awareness of those identities.

“So I think we’re starting from a different level with rugby.”

The rebrand will include more behind-the-scenes content from the league’s bright, young things and more intelligent highlights, with dramatic moments, such as shuddering hits, try-saving tackles and interactions between players, included alongside the scores.

Some of the strategy is more mundane than the marketing, but just as important.

“The first time people come to rugby grounds, we have got to make them welcome,” says Calder.

“We’ve got to point out where everything is, to make sure there’s enough toilets for women, that the facilities are clean and the rest of it.

“Rugby is probably a little bit behind where some sports are, but that’s a massive focus for us.

“We’ve invested in gathering match day experience scores from fans and match day experience training with the clubs.”

Bryan Mbeumo alternatives

Manchester United have identified two alternatives in case they miss out on Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

According to ESPN, Man Utd are considering Bournemouth ace Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as plan Bs.

Eze has also attracted interest from Aston Villa after leading Palace to their first ever FA Cup.

However, SunSport understand the Eagles have slapped a whopping £65m release clause on their star player.

The playmaker has a complicated valuation based on several factors at Selhurst Park.

The Red Devils are also understood to be leading the race to sign Semenyo.

Jorrel Hato interest

Arsenal have been linked with Ajax ace Jorrel Hato ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the Gunners are reportedly taking advantage of Chelsea’s participation in the Club World Cup to try and overtake them in the race for Hato.

The same report claims the Blues remain interested in the left-back despite the recent pause.

Arsenal are said to have held positive talks with the Netherlands international’s representatives with discussions over a six-year contract.

Barcelona star targets

Barcelona are targeting four top wingers ahead of the summer transfer window.

Barca saw their attack explode last season with Ballon d’Or candidates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha contributing 102 goals.

However, manager Hansi Flick wants to add even more firepower to his ranks in a bid to retain the Spanish league title and better last season’s semi-final appearance in the Champions League.

And Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford is among the Blaugrana’s top targets… As are the below:

  • Luis Diaz (Liverpool)
  • Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
  • Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao)
  • Ivan Perisic

Inside Gyokeres saga

Viktor Gyokeres has been embroiled in a heated fall-out with Sporting Lisbon amid a turbulent transfer saga.

And Gyokeres’ agent has come in claiming he has proof of an alleged agreement that can allow the Manchester United and Arsenal target to leave for less than his astronomical release clause.

The 27-year-old has come to blows with club bosses after trying to force through a dream move to the Premier League.

The striker is furious with Sporting for going back on their word over a promise to lower his £84million asking price and reportedly plans not to play for the club again.

The Sweden international believes he had a gentleman’s agreement to leave the Portuguese champions for £50m with a further £8m in add-ons.

But that claim has been denied by club president Frederico Varandas, who insisted he will not be bullied into letting Gyokeres move to the Premier League on the cheap this summer.

‘Back for Watkins’

Arsenal have put their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres on hold and reignited their interest in Aston Villa ace Ollie Watkins.

The Gunners held talks with Gyokeres’ agent over a summer move to the Emirates earlier this week.

But according to reports, the North Londoners have temporarily shelved their interest in the striker to re-examine a move for Watkins.

According to Record, Arsenal have put a move for the Sweden international on ice because Sporting won’t reduce their asking price.

That’s despite Gyokeres reportedly snubbing a move to Manchester United.

Zirkzee stays, Hojlund leaves

Manchester United have made a major decision regarding the future of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at Old Trafford.

According to Corriere dello Sport, United have decided to hold on to Zirkzee.

This comes amid intense interest from Inter Milan for Hojlund, whom Man Utd are open to selling this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are so keen on the striker they are set to go “full speed ahead” for his signature.

The two Italian sources claim the Red Devils are much more interested in a permanent deal.

And Amorim’s side value the striker at around £34-38million this summer.

Inter prefer a loan deal with a purchase clause which is almost an obligation to buy in 2026.

The Nerazzurri’s offer would also include a hefty loan fee for the initial year.
