A TikTok video has showcased the stunning lake, with the bubblegum pink hue leaving viewers desperate to visit the spot

When you picture Spain, you imagine stunning beaches, delicious cuisine and breathtaking scenery. And this specific corner of Spain has now got tourists buzzing about its natural beauty.
The must-visit bubblegum pink lake sits just an hour’s drive from popular British hotspot Benidorm. Holiday provider Travel Republic has shared everything you need to know about the must-see travel spot, including its health benefits and the reason behind its striking pink hue.
One TikTokker, who goes by the username @carielizabethh, has posted a video of “one of the coolest” experiences you can have just outside of Alicante, Spain.
The video has amassed over 6.5 million views and it’s easy to see why. She goes on to explain that while visiting her boyfriend’s parents, who live nearby, they took the couple to experience the spectacular Laguna Salada de Torrevieja.
The captivating lake is described as “one of the most unique experiences” thanks to its salt content which allows you to float with zero effort.
What’s more, legend has it that covering yourself from head to toe in mud before swimming offers numerous therapeutic benefits.
Users of the platform are intrigued and keen to visit, taking to the comments to say: “It’s giving rose quartz lake vibes”, “omg so cool” and “We have to go “.
The video does caution, however, that visitors should be “super respectful” and not “swim outside of the designated area which is protected by wooden planks”.
So what exactly gives it that striking colour?
The lake’s distinctive strawberry hue is down to the activity of various microorganisms living within the water.
The two key ingredients are salt bacteria and micro-algae. Both flourish in highly saline conditions and produce natural pigments responsible for the water’s stunning pink appearance.
What are the ‘therapeutic’ benefits of the Laguna Salada de Torrevieja?
This remarkable salt lake and its mud are said to offer a wealth of health benefits. Immersing yourself in this natural spa has been credited with helping to prevent skin and lung conditions, while also deeply exfoliating and nourishing the skin.
It’s reportedly beneficial for those suffering from eczema and may also assist with reducing inflammation and easing pain. Those with sensitive skin are advised to take care, however, as the high salt content can cause irritation or a mild stinging sensation.
The water’s elevated salt levels also provide the ideal habitat for brine shrimp, making it a prime feeding ground for flamingos. It is, in fact, these very shrimp that are responsible for giving flamingos their iconic pink plumage.

Reports suggest 1,000 people have been invited to the festivities from July 2 to July 4, including an intimate 100-person gathering.
Photos and video footage obtained exclusively by The U.S. Sun show the hustle and bustle had already begun outside of MSG in the sweltering summer heat.
On Tuesday afternoon, a team of construction workers were seen rolling out a salmon-pink carpet down a series of steps at the VIP South Entrance as passers-by gathered to watch.
More than a dozen workers spent time making sure the entrance was fit for royalty as they smoothed down the carpet and trimmed the edges.
One of the staffers was seen wearing a T-shirt from Flemington Department Store in Raritan Township, New Jersey.
Asked what the carpet was for, one of the workers said, “A wedding.”
Another told The U.S. Sun that Taylor was hosting an event on Friday, although the ceremony was on another day.
According to Page Six, the carpet was later ripped off the stairs because it wasn’t meant to be rolled out yet.

A truck from Printhead Studio was also seen pulling up outside the venue.
The company produces seamless fabric backdrops up to 16 feet high for events, suggesting large curtains or decorative draping could be part of the setup.
Some event staff appeared to have flown in from Los Angeles, including stagehands, and said they were “excited” to be part of the celebrations, even if it meant working in the heat.
Manufactured white backer, often used as a structural foundation for temporary event installations, was also seen arriving at a separate entrance.
The U.S. Sun also spotted a worker wearing a T-shirt for Disco Pixel Productions, an New York-based technology design firm specializing in video and projection support for Broadway, touring theater, and live events.
Instagram photographs show the business was involved in the production of Wicked The Musical.

City permits have also been filed to close sections of West 31st Street and West 33rd Street around Madison Square Garden during the celebrations.
According to multiple reports, both vehicles and pedestrians will be barred from the affected areas while tents and canopies are erected to shield guests arriving at the venue.
Reported attendees will include Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Zoe Kravitz, the Haim sisters, Suki Waterhouse and members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization, while Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw have reportedly been lined up to perform.
Several of Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs teammates are also said to have booked rooms around this time at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
Additionally, Amtrak police officers who typically patrol the station beneath the arena have reportedly been warned that the celebrity couple’s nuptials will be held at the venue.
The New York Times also reported that people who work for Taylor have been spotted at Rock Lititz, a production company in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, which constructs major concert sets.
Thousands will also flock to New York and New Jersey for the FIFA World Cup game on July 5 at MetLife Stadium, adding to the city’s already overcrowded streets.
Some fans believe that the lovebirds could host a smaller celebration at a different venue before that, but clues have already sent them on a wild goose chase over where the nuptials might be.
Taylor and Travis were originally thought to get married in a fairytale wedding in Rhode Island on June 13.
We rented Il Nido because we thought other people wouldn’t like it. Small and basic, without internet, the property was supposedly beside a beautiful national park famous for its coastline and migratory birds. The online picture suggested it was pressed up against one of those concrete pillars (common around Sicily) supporting a deserted and rotting motorway flyover. I was writing a thriller with mafia connections. My partner wanted to scrape off six months of fumes from her new job in London. Our daughter needed fun.
“This is a bomb,” said the hostess, opening a cupboard under the sink. “You turn it anticlockwise to go off.”
“Not bomb, bombola,” whispered my partner. “It’s the gas canister, for the stove.”
From outside in the driving rain came the sounds of traffic and sodden animals – frogs and a goose, always in that order: frog croak, goose quack; frog croak, goose quack.
We woke up on the Saturday to the first sunshine in six months. The roar we had thought was traffic was the crash of waves. The sound of a goose eating a lot of frogs in quick succession turned out, in fact, to be the call of wild flamingos. We were, just as our hostess had promised, in a tumbledown farmstead – what Sicilians call a baglio – among the shimmering lemon groves, on the edge of the Vendicari nature reserve; and it was glorious.
A baglio is more specifically a fortified group of buildings around a central courtyard, the stone barn equivalent of “circling the wagons” in America. In the 19th century, armed gangs roamed the fields of south-east Sicily. Isolated farms were attractive targets because they stored a whole year’s crop – grain, olives, wine, tools, animals. The two barns opposite our building were caved in, the stone courtyard was more a sunken boulder. In one corner, a vast cluster of poppies and marigolds billowed in merry defiance. On top of a collapsed roof was a starling with 17 voices, including one that sounded like a falling bombola, tossed over the wall by a bandit, and another that suggested a laughing computer.

Vendicari is small, but it is one of the most important wetland nature reserves in Sicily. In the 1970s, the owners of an asphalt and petroleum company wanted to build an oil refinery here. The local officials, looking across the valley from their glorious baroque buildings in Noto, approved the plan. They hadn’t reckoned on the force of Bruno Ragonese, a local eccentric who kept 20 abandoned dogs as pets, and wasn’t even Sicilian: he was an immigrant from Libya. He strode out to the site, gathered evidence on migratory birds, built local environmental groups into a powerful alliance and, brilliantly, argued that since these birds were migrating (as he had done) from Africa to Europe, this was a much bigger issue than a wallet-stuffer for the Noto politicians – it was an international scandal.
Next came the property developers. Again, the Noto councillors patted their pockets. And again the extraordinary young man swung into action. No, replacing the drained wetlands with fake ponds did not constitute “sympathetic, environmental building”. No, migratory birds wouldn’t be perfectly happy on a smaller patch of land in a cheaper sector – they weren’t social housing tenants. Yes, this is the head of Ramsar (the organisation upholding an international environmental treaty protecting wetlands) on the phone wanting to know why you plan to destroy one of Europe’s essential marshlands.
The nature reserve was established in 1984.
For a piffling €7 a day for a whole family or €3.50 for adults, the entire park is yours. After a breakfast of fresh ricotta, honey and local oranges (all from a Coop: these shops look just as plain as the UK Co-ops, but equal the best London delicatessens for good things), we started our visit on Calamosche beach. With juniper bushes, wild irises, tumbling cacti and the lilting flight of hoopoes, it is a blissful stretch of sand sloping into gentle waves. On the left, the rocks lead up to the Grotta di Calamosche, a cave with a tree growing inside. From there, the exquisite view looks almost solid, as if sealed by light.
It is easy to walk the length of Vendicari in two hours, from the ruins of Eloro, a seventh-century BC Greek colony, past the flamingos, to the eerie modern remains of a tuna-canning factory, where the oil refinery was going to be. For hundreds of years, until 1944, tuna were caught here by a brutal method of netting and trapping called mattazana, literally “the slaughter”. Now roofless, with staring windows and only a crowd of thin pillars remaining, this Colosseum for fish feels as ancient as Rome.
“Did you know flamingos are pink because they eat shrimp?” said my daughter, interrupting my pleasantly gloomy mood thinking about time, loss and tins of fish.
I did not, and I don’t believe it. There’s only so much silliness from nature that I’m prepared to accept. “And what colour are flamingos that don’t eat shrimp?” I said, in a superior tone.
“No colour. The world is full of invisible flamingos.”
Flamingos in Vendicari. Photograph: Lee Dalton/Alamy
The two lakes at the heart of the reserve were thick with these fantastical birds, gabbling and scooping at the water, and coming in to land like badly piloted pink planes.
I retorted with science. “Those tiny buildings?” I pointed towards ancient Syracuse, glimmering in the distance. “Birthplace of Archimedes, one of the greatest mathematicians of all time, inventor of … No, don’t look it up on your phone – phones are banned!”
But it was too late. She had captured another flash of internet. “Hey! There’s an H&M in Syracuse. Let’s go!”
The path around the reserve does not entirely encircle it. You set off left, walk for 5 miles (8km), then half a mile before you get to your ruined farmhouse home, your way is blocked by a private lemon grove. You must not go through it. You are not allowed through it.
We went through it. It was lovely.
In this part of Sicily, lemons are so plentiful and the trees so giving, that you feel the fruit is being forced on you by nature, Breughel fashion; it would be rude not to accept. Of course, you must not add theft to trespass. But I thoroughly recommend you buy some from the farmer: they are delicious. Organic, bloated, dazzling growths of oily yellow, I think they are the famous Femminello Siracusano lemons. Because local regulations forbid the use of wax or pesticides, every part is edible.
After the lemon grove came a path of marigolds, as tall as my shoulder, and wild fennel, above my head. We arrived home at sunset, where we cooked tagliatelle al limone rubato on the bits of the stove that did work, and ate it overlooking Syracuse and its H&M, with three invisible flamingos for company. Here’s the recipe:
Pasta al limone rubato
Lardo or bacon, as much as you want 1 lemon, zest and juice Scrubland herbs thyme, oregano or whatever you can find. Fennel is good Pasta, perhaps tagliatelle Parmesan cheese, lots
Fry the lardo, add the lemon zest, herbs, a little pasta cooking water, and stir. Add pasta. Mix in grated cheese and lemon juice until it tastes nice. Serve under cover of darkness.
When manufacturers begin to design new boots – a process that can start up to two years before release – they often consult trend forecasters such as WGSN to learn which colours, themes and styles are likely to be ‘in’ when the product eventually hits the shelves.
But there are other factors as to why pink has been a hit in football.
Of course, players are far more open to wearing extravagant boots than previous generations.
But the simple reason the companies have hit upon pink is because of how it contrasts with the green of the pitch.
It stands out whether you are watching on television, at the stadium, or scrolling on your phone.
The pink boot shows up if you are looking at slow-motion clips, or watching under stadium lights.
In a nutshell – it is highly visible.
But the irony may be that, with so many manufacturers arriving at pink, perhaps it is more difficult for their designs to stand out?

The UK’s only direct flight to a destination known as the ‘pink city’ has been launched by Wizz Air, and flights start from £45.99 with no visa required for Brits
The ‘pink city’ is said to be an undiscovered destination(Image: Getty Images)
Wizz Air has launched the UK’s only direct flight to a walkable destination dubbed the ‘pink city’, which has ditched visa requirements for Brits.
In an exciting addition for the budget airline, holidaymakers can now jet off from London Luton Airport to Yerevan, with flights starting from just £45.99. The Wizz Air route launched on Tuesday, 9 June and is the only direct flight available from the UK to Armenia.
Flights will operate from London Luton to Yerevan, Armenia, twice a week on Mondays and Fridays throughout the year. The direct route takes just over five hours, and after that time, travellers will be rewarded with the dramatic landscapes of mountains and historic architecture in a destination known as the ‘Pink City’.
The city earned its moniker due to the rose-hued stone that characterises its buildings, in addition to its tree-lined boulevards and lively public squares. There are historic monasteries, museums, galleries and markets, along with a thriving café culture.
On the UK’s first direct route to Armenia, Wizz Air pilot, Tom Copestake, exclusively told the Mirror: “I’m really excited about landing in Yerevan, Armenia. It’s a new destination for us, but it’s surrounded by big mountains, and it’ll be an interesting experience to fly around there.”
Adding to the appeal of a trip to Armenia in Asia, British holidaymakers can visit without a visa for up to 180 days a year. Whereas a list of Asian countries still requires Brits to obtain a visa at an additional cost.
Following the new flights, Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said: “Today [9 June] marks an exciting moment for Wizz Air as we launch the UK’s only direct route to Armenia, opening up a destination that remains largely undiscovered by British travellers. At Wizz Air, we’re committed to making travel more accessible and helping our customers explore beyond the obvious. Yerevan is a city rich in history, culture and character, offering an incredible experience for travellers looking for something different, all at an affordable price.
“The response to our Let’s Get Lost campaign showed there is real appetite among travellers to step outside their comfort zones and discover destinations they may never have previously considered. We’re proud to be making Armenia more accessible than ever before and can’t wait to welcome more passengers on board as they experience everything this remarkable country has to offer.”
Alberto Martin, Chief Executive Officer at London Luton Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Wizz Air’s new service to Yerevan, marking the UK’s first direct link to Armenia and further strengthening London Luton Airport’s increasingly diverse route network. This exciting new destination in the South Caucasus is a unique city that offers a fascinating cultural scene of contrasts to suit all tastes.
“As well as reinforcing our long-standing partnership with Wizz Air, the addition of Yerevan to our departure boards signals our commitment to offer even greater choice as part of our simple and friendly passenger experience.”

It might not be on most Brits’ bucket list, but Armenia is a more unique destination for those wanting to go off the beaten track.
The pink nickname comes from the buildings made from rose-coloured stone which, during sunrise and sunset, can even turn into a vibrant pink or violet.
The country bordered by Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran is also backed by the enormous Mount Ararat which make for incredible views.
They said: “Arriving in Republic Square, the heart of the capital city Yerevan, the Saturday evening atmosphere was electric with hordes of people enjoying live music alfresco.
“We wandered the main streets past buildings made from pink volcanic stone, before reaching the Cascade Yerevan.
“Made up of 572 steps (we took the interior escalator), this mighty landmark is a must-visit. From its peak, we had stunning views of the snow-capped Mount Ararat, now in modern-day Turkey.”
Away from landmarks, Armenia is known for its brandy and there are lots of vineyards dotted around Mount Ararat.
For those who want to learn more about it, there’s a museum dedicated to it and at the ARARAT Museum, a guided tour which includes a tasting starts from £9.

An hour outside of is the popular spot of Lake Sevan which is one of the world’s highest freshwater alpine lakes.
For anyone visiting in the summertime, it’s a popular swim spot and has a sandy shoreline for sunbathing.
You can also pick up local beer for as little as £1 and coffee from £1.20.
According to Kayak, 3-star hotels in Yerevan can start from £30 per night – or if you consider hotels overnight stays can be as little as £15 per night.
One-way flights with Wizz Air start from £45.99.
It is cheaper to visit too, after visa fees were droppedCredit: Alamy
It’s also cheaper for Brits to visit because Armenia has dropped its visa fees.
Holidaymakers can now visit for up to 180 days within a one year period.
The best time to visit Armenia is between May and June as well as autumn between September and October due to the mild temperatures up to 25C.
Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK, said that the route opens up “a destination that remains largely undiscovered by British travellers”.
She added: “At Wizz Air, we’re committed to making travel more accessible and helping our customers explore beyond the obvious.
“Yerevan is a city rich in history, culture and character, offering an incredible experience for travellers looking for something different, all at an affordable price.”

Vilnius is having a moment as a city break destinationCredit: Getty
Travel Reporter Alice Penwill recently visited and was stunned by how cheap it was.
She said: “Eating and drinking out is such a bargain, so it makes for an insanely affordable European weekend break.
“I found bars serving beer for around £2.60, and coffee for just a few quid.
“Even cocktails like Aperol Spritzes were under a fiver – and make sure to soak it up with some ‘kepta douna’ (a local garlic fried bread that’s a popular bar snack).”
Yes, Vilnius has one of Europe’s oldest and best-preserved medieval Old Towns but it’s quickly gaining a reputation as a capital of cool.
With a thriving arts scene and a vibrant coffee shop culture, it’s a great value option for a weekend break with beers from £3.50 and a traditional lunch for under £9.
It’s also just 15 minutes from the airport to the city centre.
While there’s history and amazing architecture aplenty in the Old Town, cross Vilnele River to enter the self-declared ‘Republic’ of Uzupis.
This bohemian neighbourhood has its own constitution, president, currency and anthem celebrating free spirit, art and community with lots of cafes, galleries and bars.
Don’t miss Literatų Gatvė (Literature Street), a winding alleyway decorated with more than 200 small pieces of art dedicated to famous writers.

HIDDEN GEM
Lukiškės Prison 2.0 has seen a high security prison that doubled as a filming location for the Netflix smash Stranger Things transformed into a museum and arts venue.
There are more than 250 creators working in the repurposed former cells. Take a tour to find out about its grim history then stay for a gig or a drink in the courtyard in the evening.
BEST VIEW
Take in the Old Town’s unique red-tiled roofs, church spires and narrow streets from 14th Century Gediminas Tower.
Set at the top of Gediminas Hill, it houses an interactive exhibition. Also great for panoramic views is the Hill of Three Crosses.
RATED RESTAURANT
You can’t go to Vilnius and not try its legendary Pink Soup – a cold beetroot soup.
The traditional dish is so popular there’s even an Pink Soup Festival with themed food, music and festivities to kick off summer.
This year it runs from May 29 to 31.
And you can try the soup at any time of year at Lokys in the Old Town where a bowl costs £7.50 and comes with baby potatoes.

BEST BAR
For sheer quirkiness, check out Peronas Bar, literally next to the tracks at the main train station and great for live music – don’t miss the giant statue of Tony Soprano by the al-fresco tables!
For pint professionals, head to Alaus Biblioteka – an actual Beer Library where there are 60 styles of beer with 17 beer taps and almost 500 bottled beers from around the world.
HOTEL PICK
The 4* Neringa Hotel has a great combination of historic vibes and modern touches.
Freshly revamped, there’s a restaurant and rooftop bar to admire the views and you’re within walking distance of all the main sights.
Rooms are very Scandi-chic and prices are keen.
Three nights’ room-only is from £240pp including flights from Stansted in June. See onthebeach.co.uk.
It’s famous for its bright pink colourcaused by halobacteria (a microorganism) and Dunaliella salina (a type of algae), which are both naturally pink in color and release a pigment into the water.
The high concentration of salt in the lake means that technically you’d be able to actually float in the water – but swimming here is actually banned.
For the best chance of a deep pink lake, holidaymakers should aim to visit the lake between June to October.
Otherwise, make sure to head there during late August and early September where you’ll see as many as 2,000 flamingos in its shallow water.
Laguna Rosa is just one place to stop by on a visit to Costa Blanca which has been dubbed a ‘dupe’ for far-flung Red Sea-style escape.
Other popular spots around Torrevieja include Tabarca Island, is about an hour by boat from Alicante.
It has crystal-clear waters, calm coves, and is a sought out snorkelling destination with plenty of marine life to see – which is why it’s been compared to the Red Sea.

When it comes to getting a bite to eat, the region has its own signature dish called ‘caldero’.
It’s a rich fish stew cooked with fresh local catch and rice.
The Costa Blanca coastline is cheap too. TravelSupermarket worked out that the average price of a holiday per person is £566.
In Alicante, which is the capital of the region, you can pick up beer for €3 (£2.61), coffee from €1.89 (£1.64) and a meal for as little as £13.
And when it comes to where to stay First Choice recommends Albir Garden Resort.
Families can base themselves at Albir Garden Resort which pools with aqua park’s slides and fountains, buffet restaurants and a kids’ club with daily activities.
Each one bedroom apartments accommodation comes with a lounge area, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and balcony.
