Prep talk: South Gate QBMichael Gonzalez is making an impact

If you want to see a player whose impact is growing, go watch South Gate junior quarterback Michael Gonzalez. He’s listed as 5 feet 9 on the Rams’ roster, but what an arm he has and he can run, too.

He passed for 273 yards last week in a loss to Garfield. He has passed for 1,999 yards and 22 touchdowns in eight games. He’s also scored six touchdowns.

Receiver Nicholas Fonseca, another junior, has 52 receptions for 1,027 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was the City Section Division II player of the year last season.

South Gate is 5-3, with the duo leading the way. The Rams’ passing attack could set them apart for the Division I playoffs.

Vinicius Junior smiles again but his Real Madrid future has never been more uncertain – Guillem Balague column

The hostility towards Vinicius is real – and it has names, dates, and court sentences.

He has been insulted in stadiums across Spain. He has testified in trials after a black mannequin wearing his shirt was hung from a bridge.

He has seen fans being sanctioned with suspended sentences for racist abuse in Valencia and Mallorca, largely thanks to LaLiga’s efforts to ensure those actions do not remain unpunished within a judicial culture that long treated football’s “industrial” language and “banter” with indulgence.

And yet, each time he reacts – pointing to the stands, asking referees to act, refusing to pretend it didn’t happen – the same voices reappear: “Yes, they insult him, but he should behave better.”

It’s as if his protest and his provocation didn’t come from the same place. His gestures, his anger, his resistance all emerge from living in a context that demands he smile while being insulted.

To be a black footballer is to play under constant scrutiny in Spain. Every movement becomes evidence in a cultural trial. Every expression is judged through a gaze that demands docility.

Spanish football insists it isn’t racist, and maybe that’s part of the problem. The bias isn’t shouted; it’s whispered through commentary, coded in tone.

That’s Vinicius’ existence: being himself while constantly measured by someone else’s comfort.

This fight happens every weekend, in stadiums and studios alike. His dance is joy, but also defiance. His anger is not petulance – it’s protection.

Spain’s moral code still confuses composure with virtue. It rewards the player who remains calm, who never challenges the crowd, who fits the image of the polite star. But that code was built in a football world that no longer exists.

Today’s players are not silent idols. They are global citizens, performers, brands, and sometimes activists. Visibility is a tool. Vinicius understands that his presence and his defiance carry meaning.

Yet, instead of recognising that courage, much of the public reads it as provocation. He isn’t misunderstood because he behaves badly; he’s misunderstood because his existence unsettles old certainties about who gets to define respect.

He also represents something else – the transformation of the footballer into a public narrative. The modern player doesn’t just play; he builds identity through social media, sponsorships, personal branding.

Lamine Yamal’s birthday celebration – luxury, lights, spectacle – is a sign of that new world. His display can be read as authenticity, an embrace of modern fame.

Vinicius, however, is treated differently. He is loud, but his noise has purpose.

He stands at the crossroads of football, race, and modern celebrity – a figure both sociological and sporting.

He’s not just a winger; he’s a symbol of a new generation of athletes who refuse to shrink themselves to fit into someone else’s comfort.

Vinicius Junior doesn’t need to change for Spain to understand him. Spain needs to change to understand itself.

Ayala High’s Joshua Townsell appreciates character award

Ayala High basketball coach Sameer Bhatt, who also teaches AP Government, says of his senior point guard, Joshua Townsell, “He’s the epitome of what you want a student athlete to be.”

On Monday, Townsell and 10 other Southern Section athletes were honored at the 20th Dr. Jim Staunton Champions for Character Awards.

Besides being given a $1,000 scholarship, Townsell received a gift certificate for free Raising Cane’s chicken for a year. That’s what he was most bragging about.

His coach sent out an email to the entire Ayala faculty, saying, “While he may not seek the spotlight, the impact he has made on our basketball program, and the wider Bulldog community, is nothing short of remarkable.”

He has a 4.0 grade-point average and serves as a mentor to many of his teammates. He has volunteered to assist in water development projects in Nigeria and community service in Pomona. He’s also a star point guard who was first-team all-league as a junior.

Teammates will be congratulating him — and asking to accompany him when he goes for a chicken dinner.

Man Utd hero now playing for same club as his son 21 years his junior after emotional transfer

ASHLEY and Tyler Young are set to become the first father-son duo to take to the field in Championship history.

The pair were denied a historic meeting by Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson in last season’s FA Cup when Tyler and his Posh team-mates took on Premier League side Everton.

Had Tyler taken to the pitch while his old man was on the field, they would’ve become the first father-son duo to play against one another in the 154-year history of the FA Cup.

But now, they could potentially play for the SAME TEAM after Tyler was signed to Ipswich Town‘s Under-21s following a successful trial.

Former Manchester United and England star Ashley joined the Tractor Boys this summer at the ripe old age of 40.

And the magnitude of Town’s signing of his son hasn’t gone unnoticed by football fans.

One wrote on X:”Like father, like son.”

Another said: “Hopefully, they get given a game together.”

And another said: “Finally get to play together professionally.”

One remarked: “Would love to see them play in the same team together.”

Another chimed in: “Father and son at the same club, a beautiful story.”

Ashley inked a one-year deal with Ipswich in July following his release from Everton.

Darren Ferguson says Everton star ‘had a pop at me’ for not bringing on Ashley Young’s son Tyler

Manager Kieran McKenna said of his arrival: “Ashley has had a fantastic career and his achievements speak for themselves.

“He has maintained an extremely high level of professionalism and competitiveness through his career and he is still playing at a very good level.

“We feel his leadership and experience will be valuable to the group this season and he is very hungry to contribute on and off the pitch.”

Ipswich will be back in action a week on Friday night, welcoming Sheffield United to Portman Road.

Running back Moyo Odebunmi breaks loose for Cleveland High

Moyo Odebunmi, a junior running back at Cleveland High and native of Nigeria who had never played varsity football until this season, is quickly adjusting to the speed of the game.

On Thursday night against Arleta, his first three carries resulted in touchdown runs of 68, 85 and 59 yards. He also caught a touchdown and had a 99-yard kickoff return in Cleveland’s 70-37 win. He finished with 303 yards rushing.

Odebunmi, who is 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds, didn’t play football as a freshman, came out last season and learned the game on junior varsity. Now coach Mario Guzman can’t find enough spots to use him.

“We had him all over the field,” Guzman said. “He’s just an athlete we have to have out there.”

Another big contributor for Cleveland was soccer athlete Samael Cerritos, who was 10 for 10 on PATs.

Real reason Junior Andre stayed silent during parents’ ‘embarrassing’ row & why ‘sad’ mum Katie will never get him back

FROM their sultry connection in the jungle to bitter legal feuds, Katie Price and Peter Andre’s fiery war of words has spanned 16 years.

And, as their recent explosive row has proved, it shows no signs of ending soon – but one person who has so far remained silent is their 20-year-old son Junior Andre.

An insider said Junior tries to ‘disassociate himself as much as he can’ from his mumCredit: Getty

While his 18-year-old sister Princess is currently taking centre stage with her ITV documentary, The Princess Diaries, Junior prefers to keep out of all drama.

According to a source, when it comes to his feuding parents, the aspiring singer is firmly on dad Peter’s side, and is “embarrassed” by former glamour model Katie.

A source told Fabulous: “Junior is on his dad’s side 100 per cent.

“He has no time for his mum as harsh as that sounds.

“She represents negativity and sadness in his life and he has been trying to move away from that and heal for a long time.

“He hates how his mum is a laughing stock and tries to disassociate himself as much as he can without starting World War 3.”

Junior’s Instagram page, where he boasts 555,000 followers, rarely features his reality star mum.

The glamour model, 47, who is currently dating Married at First Sight’s JJ Slater, 32, hardly features in any of his posts, unlike his dad, 52, and Princess, whom he regularly posts pics and videos with.

The insider added: “He posts a happy birthday message to her to keep up appearances and to not ruin her day but they don’t hang out much at all.

“As far as Junior is concerned, he’s his dad’s son.

Emotional Peter Andre reveals strict rule for Princess and Junior

“His dad has brought him up and raised him to be the man he is today – he knows he wouldn’t be anywhere today without his dad’s love and support.”

Junior moved out of Katie’s infamous “Mucky Mansion” ten years ago to live full-time with Peter and stepmum and NHS doctor Emily MacDonagh, 36, in their Surrey mansion.

The pair also have their own three kids, Amelia, 11, Theo, eight, and one year-old Arabella, who they typically keep out of the spotlight.

Emily, who has been married to Peter for ten years, features heavily in Princess’ new show – while Katie was allegedly banned from filming by bosses for being “too trashy”.

And insiders say that Emily has been “more of a conventional mum” to Junior over the years.

They added: “Junior wasn’t lacking anything and so he had no need to see Katie.”

Junior is said to have made the decision to avoid the notorious nine-bedroom Sussex pad – which has now been sold – as it was “so horrific.”

BOMBSHELL STATEMENT

The source claimed: “Junior hasn’t had much to do with his mum in recent years.

“He totally avoided visiting her at the Mucky Mansion. He didn’t want to live in squalor.

“It was constantly chaotic and the house was always full of people and this revolving door of men – and Katie’s dramas.”

After he left, they say Junior rarely went back to visit Katie and as she wasn’t welcome at Pete’s house “they didn’t see each other much” and now “he rarely visits her”, despite her moving out of the squalid home.

Junior was later joined by sister Princess, and it has been revealed the family courts issued a legally binding order for the living arrangement in 2019.

Mysterious Girl singer Peter claimed in a bombshell statement that the pair were placed in his care “for their safety”.

The outburst came after Katie claimed Peter and his management wouldn’t allow her to do any publicity with Princess.

“Unfortunately, the management team and Pete won’t allow me to be near her,” she ranted earlier this month.

“They have made it clear, they won’t allow Princess to do photoshoots with me, they won’t allow me to go to any events with Princess – because they think I am trash basically.”

Peter then hit back at Katie’s claims, slamming her in a furious Instagram statement.

Peter wrote: “For sixteen years I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silence has been incredibly frustrating.”

He continued: “That ends today.”

This outburst is said to be out of character for Peter, who allegedly “never bad mouths Katie in front of the children”.

However, Junior, who the source claims is an “exceptionally bright young man”, has “seen it all and come to his own conclusions”.

The insider claimed that Junior was “shocked” that Peter spoke out but “doesn’t blame him”.

However, they added: “He’s really sad to see his mum and dad’s feud playing out in public again.

“Obviously he’s read a lot about it over the years – he’s old enough to read Google.”

PRIVATE LIFE

While Katie famously courts the spotlight, and his sister is doing her new documentary, the 20-year-old is said to prefer a “quiet life at home with his girlfriend”.

Junior has been dating his girlfriend Jasmine Orr, 24, since last April, with their relationship going from strength-to-strength.

The couple have now opened up about a huge step they have taken together, while talking about the possibility of getting wed.

Revealing their huge milestone to OK! Magazine in a new interview, Junior explained how he and Jasmine, who previously appeared on Celebs Go Dating in 2023, now have a place of their own.

“Yes, we’ve moved into our own little flat together,” he told the magazine.

He then detailed their one-bedroom abode in Surrey, and spoke about how they are currently decorating it.

Junior then gushed about wanting to spend “every day” with his girlfriend and said that they felt “ready” for the next step.

Growing up, Junior is said to have “hated” being featured in Katie’s photoshoots and TV shows.

The insider added: “He was just a young boy finding his way in life and wanted to focus on his hobbies and friends.

“He grew up embarrassed of his mum and it’s hard to shake that.”

Pete paid for Princess and Junior to have a private school so they have had the very best education and they are incredibly bright.

The youngsters have capitalised on that schooling, with Junior releasing a No1 single and Princess signing a huge beauty deal and launching her own brand.

The source added: “Junior has protected his energy and spirit and Pete is very proud – and relieved – that he hasn’t turned out to be anything like his mum.”

MOVING ON

In recent months he had been impressed by Katie making changes and was looking after herself.

However, the recent feud has left Junior with a “bad taste in his mouth”, according to the source.

They claimed: “Now, he feels more sorry for her.

“He’s sad about it all.

“He wants to get on with his life and explore his own path, but he feels like his mum is constantly in the background casting negativity over everything.

“He thinks she just needs to get over it [not being with his dad] and move on now so everyone can get on with their lives in peace.”

Katie Price’s love life

We take a look back at the highs and lows of Katie Price’s relationship history.

1998-2000: Katie described Dane Bowers as ‘the love of her life’ but she broke up with the singer when he allegedly cheated on her.

2001: Footballer Dwight Yorke is the father of Katie’s eldest child Harvey. He has had very little to do with Harvey throughout his life.

2004-2009: The jungle romance resulted in Katie marrying Aussie pop star Peter. They had two kids, Junior and Princess, before their bitter split in 2009.

2010-2011: Fresh from her break-up with Peter, Katie enjoyed a whirlwind relationship and marriage with cage fighter Alex Reid. They split 20 months after their Las Vegas wedding.

2011: Katie briefly dated model Danny Cipriani… but it ended as quickly as it begun.

2011-2012: They didn’t speak the same language, but Katie got engaged to Argentinian model Leandro Penna in 2011. He later fled home to South America.

2020-2023: Car salesman Carl Woods took a shining to Katie in 2020. Their relationship was up and down for three years. They broke up for a final time last year.

Junior Andre’s girlfriend Jasmine Orr has revealed that she was “so upset” after seeing reports comparing her to Junior’s mum Katie Price. The 24-year-old opened up about experiencing fame on The Princess Diaries – ITV2’s new Princess Andre reality show.

In one episode, Princess was holidaying with Junior, 19, and Jasmine in Ibiza when Junior spoke about making his relationship public. The couple began dating in April 2024, having met through events while she was working as a PR.

“I feel like with Jasmine it’s really nice to have an older sister figure kind of thing but being part of our family isn’t as simple as it seems,” Princess told the cameras. Junior then revealed that comparisons between his girlfriend and his mum began when they met for the first time. It comes after Katie Price reaches out to Harvey’s lookalike half-brother but fears ‘he’s too scared’.

“When she met mum, obviously I want my girl and my mum to get along, who doesn’t?” Junior said. He added that he soon saw headlines “comparing the two”.

“They’re saying that my girl is trying to look like my mum,” he said. Jasmine then added: “They say that Kate’s copying me, I’m copying her. I literally was so upset and I cried.”

Princess went on to tell the camera: “I can only imagine how weird it would be to be compared to your partner’s mum and I don’t think mum would ever say that she wants to look as young as Jasmine. I think she’s happy with how she looks at the moment.”

Earlier this year, Junior and Jasmine spoke to OK! magazine about their relationship, revealing that they had moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Surrey together.

Speaking about moving, Junior said that both mum Katie and dad Peter Andre had been “really supportive”. He said: “They were really happy for us. My parents were both there if we needed anything while moving, and we’re still going to be going for barbecues at Dad’s, or to my mum’s for movie nights.

“Family is so important. We’re going to host them here, too, once everything is settled.”

The Princess Diaries airs Sundays at 9pm on ITV2, with all episodes available to stream on ITVX.

Vinicius Junior: Four people sentenced over effigy of Real Madrid star | Football News

It’s the fourth court sentencing in a year related to racial abuse and threats directed at the Real Madrid footballer.

Four people have been handed suspended jail sentences of between 14 and 22 months by a Madrid court after being found guilty of a hate crime related to an effigy of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, Spain’s La Liga has said.

“The defendant who posted the video online received a special disqualification from working in education, sports, or recreational youth settings for four years and three months, while the others received three years and seven months,” a La Liga statement said on Monday.

They were all involved in hanging a banner reading “Madrid hates Real” and an inflatable black effigy in a replica of the Brazilian’s number 20 T-shirt on a bridge before a Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

According to the ruling, one defendant was sentenced to 15 months in prison for a hate crime and an additional seven months for making threats, having distributed images of the act online. The other three were sentenced to seven months in prison for hate crimes and seven months for threats.

They will not serve prison time, however, after all four signed a letter of apology to Vinicius, Real Madrid, La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF).

The first defendant was also fined 1,084 euros ($1,257) and the other three 720 euros ($835), with additional punishments including a 1km (0.6 miles) restraining order from Vinicius, his home and workplace, and a ban on approaching football stadiums during La Liga or RFEF matches.

They will all be required to participate in an educational programme on equal treatment and non-discrimination for the prison sentences imposed to be suspended.

There was no immediate confirmation from the court and no immediate reaction from Vinicius, who is currently playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Victim of repeated racial abuse

La Liga has filed complaints about various incidents of racial abuse and threats against the Brazilian international in recent years.

On June 10, 2024, three Valencia football fans were sentenced to eight months in prison for hate crimes directed against Vinicius in May 2023 in what was the first conviction for racist insults in a football stadium in Spain.

Last September, a Spanish court sentenced a Mallorca fan who racially abused Vinicius in February 2023, and former Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze a week later, to a year in prison and issued a three-year stadium ban.

Last month, five people were handed 12-month suspended prison sentences and fines for racially abusing the Real Madrid forward during a December 2022 match in a landmark first ruling in Spain to condemn racist insults in a football stadium as a hate crime.

I wed a Nigerian toyboy 43 years my junior – people think I’m ‘crazy’, call me his ‘grandma’ & say he’s with me for cash

A 68-YEAR-OLD woman has revealed that she said ‘I Do’ with her Nigerian toyboy, who is 43 years her junior.

When Kay, 68, and Ablack, 25, first connected on Facebook, they had no idea that a simple social media like would lead to marriage

But now, the couple have opened up on their unique relationship and explained how just three days after meeting in real life, Kay’s toyboy popped the question.

Revealing all to Truly, on an episode of Love Don’t Judge, the couple admitted that they are constantly stared at in the street and Kay has even been accused of being Ablack’s “grandma”.

Opening up about how their relationship first blossomed, Kay recognised: “He liked something I posted. He went from somebody who liked my post to my very best friend, I could tell him everything. It just kept getting stronger and stronger.”

After three failed marriages, Kay was initially “very leery about being scammed” by the youngster.

Not only was the mother called “crazy” by many, but before long, the couple had tied the knot, with Ablack being Kay’s fourth husband.

Despite falling in love, the couple constantly face judgement over their age gap, with Kay being 43 years older than Ablack.

But Kay beamed: “I do not feel old when I’m around him. I feel very young, like a teenager.”

With Ablack based in Nigeria and Kay over in the US, the pair have had to make the relationship work with the geographical distance.

However, Ablack knows that the pair are destined to be, as he acknowledged: “A prophet told me that I’m going to get married to a white woman and here she is.”

But although destiny brought them together, not everyone agrees with their relationship, as Ablack said, “Some people say, ‘she’s old enough to be your mum’. Some say, ‘you’re married to your grandma’, ‘she’s too old for you’.

I’m 20 and my man is 63 – people say he looks like Shrek and I must be in it for the money, but I’d still love him if he was a cleaner

“Anywhere we go, people take pictures of us.”

Not only this, but people have even accused Ablack of getting “married for a US green card”.

Be careful girl. Scammers can be “in love” too!

YouTube user

Clearly unfazed by the judgement, Kay, who is often referred to as Ablack’s “sugar mummy”, said: “I’ve never felt love like this before.

“This is the one I’m supposed to be with, I just had to wait a long time for him to be born.

“He treats me like a Queen. I’m his priority.”

A-list age gap relationships that have stood the test of time

The Kardashian matriarch, 69, met her younger man, 44, at a mutual friend’s 40th birthday party in Ibiza. They’ve been together since August 2014.
  2. Sam & Aaron Taylor-Johnson – 23 years
The director, 57, and actor, 34, reportedly met at a film audition in 2009, and were married by 2012. The pair share two daughters and Sam has two children from a previous marriage.
  3. Rosie-Huntington-Whiteley & Jason Statham – 20 years
The model, 37, started dating actor Jason, 57, in 2010. They were wed in 2016 and have since welcomed a son and a daughter together.
  4. Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas – 25 years
Catherine, 55, was introduced to Michael, 80, a film festival in 1996 and engaged three years later. Shortly after their engagement, the couple welcomed a son and married in 2000.

Social media users react

Social media users were left stunned by the couple’s age gap relationship – and nasty trolls were out in full force in the comments on the YouTube clip.

One person said: “As a middle aged woman who’s probably close to her age, this makes me uncomfortable.”

This is the one I’m supposed to be with, I just had to wait a long time for him to be born

Kay

Another added: “The prophet”s name is Visa.”

A third warned: “Be careful girl. Scammers can be “in love” too!”

At the same time, someone else wrote: “Hope she has a lot of money to feed his whole family, why else would a 25 year old be with a woman in her 60s.”

Prep talk: Grant Leary of Crespi is a golfer to watch

Grant Leary of Crespi High has a future as a golfer _ and photographer.

After winning the Southern Section individual title last week with a 66, Leary went on to practice his other fun endeavor — photography. He was shooting photos for the school yearbook at Crespi’s Southern Section Division 1 baseball playoff game.

Asked to set up a photo of himself, he brought out an iron, put one of his unused tees in his mouth and posed with a smile.

Only a junior, Leary won the tournament at Temecula Creek Country Club. He went to the final hole tied. He faced a seven-foot putt for a par but wasn’t aware of its importance.

“I knew it was a very big putt,” he said. “I didn’t know if it was for a tie or the win.”

He didn’t celebrate after making it but later learned it gave him victory.

Golf was the last sport he started playing in eighth grade. His father is a golf instructor.

Next up is the regional state qualifier on Thursday at Los Serranos Golf Course.
