All eyes were on Danny Jones and Maura Higgins after their illicit snog at the Brit Awards six months ago.

They stood apart on stage as Danny delivered the acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, the singer performed with band McFly to open the show, then was seen with Maura to collect the gong.

But then he scarpered.

On the award win, runner-up Coleen Rooney later said: “It’s amazing, it was a tough category. We’ve had a fantastic year.”

Co-star Oti Mabuse said to press: “Our king of the jungle Danny has left already!

“He wanted us to say he is on tour so he had to leg it.”

Last month, Danny shared holiday snaps with wife Georgia and son Cooper.

The king of the jungle sported a tan after he jetted off to a mystery European seaside location.

He posted a string of assets onto his Instagram profile as he strolled through the streets with Georgia and their seven-year-old son Cooper.

These Were the 5 Top-Performing Stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average in August 2025

Good news and some surprise investments fueled Dow winners in August.

August 2025 was a big month for a handful of stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. While the index, which tracks 30 of the most influential publicly traded companies in the U.S., was up 3.8% on the month, there were some outliers that drove the component’s overall performance even higher.

Here are the five companies that led the way in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and why they led the charge.

UNH Chart

UNH data by YCharts.

UnitedHealth Group: Up 30.3%

UnitedHealth Group (UNH 1.53%) stock has been a disappointment in 2025, down 50% heading into August. But it made a massive turnaround on a couple of key investments.

First, Berkshire Hathaway, led by famed CEO Warren Buffett, disclosed a $1.5 billion position in UnitedHealth, pocketing 5.04 million shares. It was a big move for Berkshire, which also operates an insurance company in GEICO, and signaled to investors that the beaten-down insurer was ripe for the picking.

Second, investor Michael Burry disclosed his own investment through his Scion Asset Management hedge fund. Burry, who’s best known for his bet against the housing market that was dramatized in The Big Short, disclosed that Scion bought 20,000 shares of UnitedHealth stock and another 350,000 call options.

The company’s second-quarter earnings were also solid, with revenue of $111.6 billion up $12.8 billion from a year ago. UnitedHealth issued full-year guidance for revenue between $344 billion and $345.5 billion, which would be up 15% from 2024.

Apple: Up 14.7%

Buffett’s cash to fund his UnitedHealth purchase came from his sale of Apple (AAPL -0.16%) stock. The Oracle of Omaha trimmed Berkshire’s stake by 20 million shares. But Apple had some other positive things going for it, so it still had a very good August.

First, Apple had a better-than-expected earnings report. Financials for its fiscal 2025’s third quarter (ended June 28) showed revenue of $94 billion, up 10% from a year ago. Earnings per share totaled $1.57, which was a 12% increase from last year.

Apple badly needed a quarter like that because the company’s revenue has been flat since 2023. While some investors were expecting more of the same, Apple was able to report double-digit growth in its iPhone, Mac, and Services segments.

American Express: Up 12.6%

American Express (AXP -1.30%) is a credit card company that has distinct advantages over competitors Mastercard and Visa. While it has a smaller market share, American Express caters to corporate accounts and affluent customers who crave the American Express gold or platinum card perks.

In addition, the company operates its own payment network and extends loans, giving it another income stream from the interest charged.

Although there remains some concern about the strength of the economy, American Express reported revenue that was up 9% in the second quarter to $17.8 billion. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $4.08, up 17% from the second quarter of 2024.

American Express isn’t sitting on its laurels, though. CEO Steve Squeri indicated that the company is looking to upgrade its Platinum card in an effort to draw Generation Z and millennial customers.

Amazon: Up 6.6%

Amazon (AMZN -1.46%) has multiple growth engines with its lucrative Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing segment and its powerful e-commerce division. Both had good news to report in August, pushing Amazon shares higher.

First, the company’s second-quarter results showed strong performance from AWS, with revenue in the segment coming in at $30.87 billion and operating income of $10.16 billion. AWS is by far most profitable segment for Amazon, and its cloud computing division is essential for companies that are looking to operate artificial intelligence-infused programs without spending massive amounts of money to create their own data centers.

A stock chart.

Amazon also is seeing greater success with advertising. Its advertising-services segment brought in $15.69 billion in the second quarter, up 23% from the previous year.

Finally, the company’s Amazon Prime Day shopping event in July brought in billions. The company said it was the biggest Prime Day event in its history. While Amazon didn’t release sales figures yet, Adobe Analytics projected $23.8 billion in overall sales from the three-day event.

Home Depot: Up 8.8%

Home Depot (HD 1.69%) had a good August after reporting solid earnings of its own. As home sales are struggling in 2025, more people seem to be putting work into their existing properties, according to CEO Ted Decker, who cited “smaller home improvement projects” as driving the company’s successful quarter.

Home Depot said it saw sales of $45.3 billion in the second quarter, up 4.9% from a year ago. Adjusted earnings per share of $4.68 were $0.01 per share higher than a year ago. The home-improvement retailer reaffirmed its 2025 guidance for sales growth of 2.8%.

American Express is an advertising partner of Motley Fool Money. Patrick Sanders has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has positions in and recommends Amazon, Apple, Berkshire Hathaway, Home Depot, Mastercard, and Visa. The Motley Fool recommends UnitedHealth Group. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.

‘I made five seasons of The Voice and this is what it’s really like working with Sir Tom Jones’

The Voice UK has been a hit with viewers since it first aired in 2012

The Voice UK first graced our screens in 2012 and has been a hit ever since, now filming its 14th series.

The popular show features blind auditions, where the star-studded coaches hit a button to turn their chair if they like what they hear, seeing the performer for the first time.

If more than one coach turns, the artist chooses a mentor for their journey on the show. After the blind auditions, the contestants are divided into four teams, each mentored by a coach who selects songs for their artists to perform in a series of battles until a winner is crowned.

The Voice UK has welcomed many musical talents to the coveted coach chair, but one constant presence since the beginning is Sir Tom Jones.

Sir Tom, 85, was part of the original panel alongside will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue. However, as filming for series 14 commences, only Sir Tom and will.i.am remain from the original line-up, reports Wales Online. For series 14, they’re joined by Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones sharing coaching duties, and Kelly Rowland.

A familiar face behind the scenes of The Voice UK is executive producer, Moira Ross, who has produced five seasons of the successful singing series.

Speaking in an exclusive interview to discuss her new series KPOPPED, Moira, whose work also includes Strictly Come Dancing, The Masked Singer and Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas, told us: “It’s some time ago now but I made five seasons of The Voice when it first launched in the UK.

“That was my sort of insight into A-list superstar music talent. That was a big learning curve, you know, to understand firsthand just how hard these people work.”

Talking about working with Sir Tom, Moira added: “Tom is the ultimate professional and it was always a privilege to hear him sing. Even in rehearsals, it was just an absolute privilege so it never felt like a job that show.

“It was a really fun time, actually, for those five years and hanging out with the likes of will.i.am. He’s a lot of fun, Will, he’s got endless bags of ideas!”

Moira has been able to utilise her experience on The Voice UK for her latest project Apple TV+’s KPOPPED, where she worked as an executive producer.

The new series sees something of a shake-up to the format, with a new line-up of award-winning judges including LeAnn Rimes, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher on a joint chair, Will i am, and Sir Tom Jones

The eight-part programme, from executive producers Lionel Richie and Miky Lee, sees each episode presented by Soojeong Son and it showcases two Western music legends – from Patti LaBelle to Boy George, Kesha to J Balvin and Megan Thee Stallion to some members of the Spice Girls – teamed up with a premier K-pop act, including ITZY, Billlie, BLACKSWAN, and STAYC. The K-pop group splits into two units, each teaming up with one of the guest artists.

They have just hours to reinvent a global hit, whilst also working on choreography, vocals, and visuals to wow the audience during their live stage performance. K-pop fans are then asked to choose the winning collaboration.

Discussing the filming process, Moira confessed it’s the “fastest turnaround” she’s ever experienced in her impressive career.

She said: “The Western stars would arrive and we would have approximately 48 hours! They’d arrive, they’d maybe get their bearings, they’d get to rehearsals and they were straight into work with the K-pop bands.

“There would be some sort of relief in terms of that experience of seeing some of the sights of Seoul and the cultural exchange. Then we’d rehearse again and next day we’re in studio, so rehearsing on set and they’re in front of that live audience of very excited K-pop fans.”

Moira added: “It’s the fastest turnaround I’ve ever done in terms of these entertainment productions but because of their level of stardom and professional capacity, they could pick it up like that and they all work so hard so it all fell into place.”

Gavin & Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones ‘sign huge deal’ for new series

Gavin & Stacey may have come to an emotional end on Christmas Day, but it seems James Corden and Ruth Jones aren’t quite done yet as they have reportedly signed a huge new deal

James Corden and Ruth Jones are reportedly set to reunite once again despite Gavin & Stacey coming to an emotional end last Christmas. The show creators and stars are said to be putting their brains together once again for a follow-up to the iconic BBC comedy.

They said they hoped to work together again after Gavin & Stacey ended, and it seems fans might not have long to wait. Just last month, Gavin actor Matthew Horne teased to the Mirror that something big is up their sleeves.

It has now been reported we can expect to see a brand new ten-part comedy drama from James and Ruth as they have reportedly signed a huge deal with AppleTV+. Their new show will be set in the UK with filming starting next year, according to reports.

It is expected to hit screens in 2027, with AppleTV+ winning against interest from the BBC, Netflix and Amazon Prime. “Naturally there was a lot of interest around the script and a major bidding war to land this production,” a source told the Sun.

“But James already had an excellent relationship with AppleTV+. It acquired the rights to his Carpool Karaoke, and it made sense to go in this direction.”

They explained how Ruth and James stayed “loyal” to the BBC for Gavin & Stacey’s finale as they turned down Netflix. However, it seems they may have branched out for the new series that’s set to include a “new format and new characters”.

Casting for the new show is yet to begin, but those involved are said to be “incredibly excited”. It comes at a busy time for both James and Ruth, who are working on their own projects.

James is starring in New York Broadway show Art, while Ruth has been writing her novels ahead of starring in Netflix thriller Run Away. In August, the Mirror revealed how Gavin & Stacey star Matthew plans to appear in the new show.

When asked on his future plans with the show’s creators, he said: “I would love to work with James and Ruth again. In fact James and I have been discussing doing a play because we are both going back into the theatre for a while – but not in the same play.

“James and I have been talking about doing a play, maybe next year or maybe the year after that. And as for Ruth, she is writing her novels at the moment.

“And she has written a new novel (By Your Side) and it is all set on a fictional island in Scotland and my heritage is Scottish, I am actually mostly Scottish by blood. So I am hoping to get into something because a lot of her novels are going to be turned into TV stuff so I’d like to work with her on that level.”

He then teased while at a talk: “And I know they are doing something with Apple at the moment, they are writing something for Apple. So I think my working relationship with both of them will continue but it may not be imminent but I think we definitely will come back together so that will be really exciting and I would jump at the chance to do that.”

Speaking in May at the BAFTAs, Ruth also said she wanted to make more TV with her friend and co-star. Ruth said: “I love working with James Corden, I really do, and I hope that we will carry on working together.”

A source close to James previously confirmed he was working on writing new projects with Ruth but said as well as Apple, a number of TV channels and streamers were keen to screen whatever they come up with.

US Open: Francesca Jones qualifies for first time with win over Arianne Hartono

Although Hartono, 29, improved as the set progressed – she hit 13 winners compared to her opponent’s four – the Dutchwoman was made to pay for her 13 unforced errors.

The second set went with serve until the third game, when Jones – top seed in the qualifying draw – fought back from 40-15 down to secure her third break of the day.

World number 187 Hartono immediately hit back with a break of her own as Jones became a little passive, but the Briton tightened her footwork and broke once again to wrestle back control of a topsy-turvy set.

She finished the match with 10 consecutive points on serve before she sprinted over to her team in celebration.

An increased prize pot meant the Bradford-born world number 86 has won $10,000 (£7,392) for reaching the first round.

Gangs of London’s Lucian Msamati teases new Netflix show Hostage with Suranne Jones

Reach Screen Time spoke exclusively to Lucian Msamati about working with Suranne Jones

One of the leading actors from Netflix‘s new adrenaline-fuelled political thriller Hostage, has given us a sneak peek behind the scenes, following lead actress Suranne Jones’ unexpected revelation, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In an exclusive chinwag with Reach Screen Time, Lucian Msamati, known for his roles in Gangs of London and Game of Thrones, spilled the beans about the twist-filled series and his experience working alongside the Gentleman Jack star.

Msamati, 49, shared: “I think there was great spark. Suranne and I just got on like a house on fire and we sort of became work husband and wife, which is really at the centre of both of their jobs.

“They’re both hard-headed, they’re both very good at what they do and they both care.”

He hinted: “I think the scenes, without giving too much away, there are later scenes to come which were tough in good way. But that’s the juice that we’re after.”

Hostage is a five-part Netflix series and marks Coronation Street and Vigil actress Jones’ first venture with the streaming behemoth.

The star collaborated closely with creator and Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman, who penned the script for Hollywood film Bridge of Spies, on the story. She also wore the hat of a producer on the TV series.

Msamati portrays prime ministerial aide Kofi Adomako, who is tasked with advising Jones’ British premier Abigail Dalton after her husband is kidnapped and her resignation is demanded as the ransom for his release.

The distinguished British-Tanzanian actor revealed he was attracted to the project by Charman, and disclosed how the playwright rang him about the role which was penned specifically with the star in mind.

Looking back on his preparation for the character of Adomako, the actor explained: “I think I’ve had the benefit of playing lots of conciliatory types, lots of right-hand, king of the hand type characters. This is watching people who are immediately behind the throne.

“There were some really interesting books, the calculation that has to happen. A person whose job it is to anticipate, the person whose job it is to go, ‘What are the possible outcomes here? Can I get ahead of this?’ Just being, you know, ultimately loyal, ultimately responsible.”

He continued: “And he sort of, for myself, this guys’s been there, he’s done that, several governments, he knows his stuff. We don’t know his political allegiance but we know he’s first duty is to the office of the prime minister.”

Msamati is currently occupied with numerous other ventures and according to IMDb, he will be featuring in the mini-series Run Away.

The star also revealed: “There are a few interesting theatrical projects bubbling and brewing and there may or may not be another well-known television series that may or may not be coming out later this year that I may or may not be a part of. You’ll just have to wait and see.”

The interview coincides with Sky’s confirmation of a fourth season for Gangs of London. However, considering the recent plot developments, it seems improbable that Msamati will make a comeback.

US Open: Francesca Jones begins qualifiers with win

Top seed Francesca Jones took the first step to reaching the US Open main draw by winning her opening qualifier, but Heather Watson was among four Britons to lose on Tuesday.

British number four Jones beat Slovakia’s Viktoria Hruncakova 6-3 6-4. She will face Ekaterine Gorgodze of Georgia on Wednesday as she looks to reach the US Open main draw for the first time in her career.

Jones has never received direct entry to a Grand Slam through her ranking and narrowly missed out this time, despite having climbed to a career-high 86th in the world since the US Open cut-off point.

The 24-year-old served six aces in a match lasted one hour 22 minutes and notched an 87% win rate on her first serves.

Meanwhile, former British number one Watson was defeated 6-3 3-6 4-6 by Gorgodze as she failed to reach the main draw for a fourth successive year.

British women’s number seven Harriet Dart edged out Romanian Anca Todoni – who sits 112 places above her in the rankings – 7-5 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (10-6).

British men’s number five Jan Choinski lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 to Argentina’s Andrea Collarini, but Oliver Crawford beat Alex Bolt of Australia 5-7 6-4 6-4.

George Loffhagen was beaten 4-6 5-7 by Jason Kubler, while 22-year-old Jack Pinnington Jones lost 6-3 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (14-12).

Jodie Burrage began her qualifying campaign with a win on Monday, but British number five Dan Evans was eliminated and will miss out on the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2018.

There are six Brits in action on Wednesday in the second round of qualifying:

  • Jodie Burrage v Arantxa Rus

  • Jay Clarke v Arthur Cazaux

  • Billy Harris v Mikhail Kukushkin

  • Harriet Dart v Ayana Akli

  • Oliver Crawford v Garrett Johns

  • Fran Jones v Ekaterine Gorgodze

Players must win three matches in qualifying to advance to the main singles draws for the tournament, which begins on Sunday.

Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Jacob Fearnley have direct entry into the men’s singles, with Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal in the women’s.

Dana White puts final nail in coffin of Jon Jones’ UFC return plans with brutal White House card statement – The Sun

DANA WHITE has all but ruled out the prospect of Jon Jones headlining the UFC’s White House card next year.

The former light-heavy and heavyweight champion ended his retirement after just TWO WEEKS in July after learning of the promotion’s plans to stage a fight card at Donald Trump‘s residence.

White was initially open to having ‘Bones’ top the bill, but has since performed a public U-turn.

The veteran promoter claimed he couldn’t “trust” Jones enough to give him the honour of headlining the historic card after he pulled the plug on fighting Brit Tom Aspinall.

And he brutally doubled down on his claim during the UFC 319 post-fight press conference on Sunday morning.

He asked a reporter: “What do you think Jon would do in the next couple of months that would make me trust putting him on the White House card?”

“I already said I don’t trust him, and you’re asking me, ‘What could he do for me to trust him in the next three months?’

“You don’t trust him!

“I haven’t talked to him at all. I would not bet on it.

“If I have to make odds, it’s a BILLION TO ONE [that] I put Jon Jones on the White House card.”

Jones, 38, was set to unify the heavyweight belts against interim titleholder Aspinall in a historic showdown at Madison Square Garden in November.

But despite the UFC brass meeting his demands to be paid “f**k you money“, he opted NOT to go through with the fight.

The former pound-for-pound king insisted a bout with Wigan warrior Aspinall did nothing for his legacy.

But he believes a fight at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will add to it.

He said: “In a recent interview, I shared that the opportunity to fight at the White House gave me something deeper to fight for, a ‘why’ that goes beyond paychecks or belts.

If I have to make odds, it’s a billion to one I put Jon Jones on the White House card.”

“Fighting for my country gives me a greater purpose!

“The silver lining in all this is knowing the fans see my heart.

“They see, I am ready and willing to take on anyone, to represent my country on a historic stage.

“For me, it’s never been just about the opponent. I’m chasing legacy, something timeless, something bigger than the moment.

“So for now, I’ll keep grinding, stay patient, and stay faithful. I’m ready to fight on July 4th.”

Cowboys’ Jerry Jones has ‘no tumors’ after melanoma battle

Jerry Jones was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma in 2010 but overcame it with the help of an experimental trial drug, the Dallas Cowboys owner revealed this week.

“I was saved by a fabulous treatment and great doctors and a real miracle [drug] called PD-1 [therapy],” Jones told the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday. “I went into trials for that PD-1 and it has been one of the great medicines.

“I now have no tumors.”

Jones told the Morning News that he was diagnosed with cancer in June 2010 and began treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston soon after. In the decade that followed, Jones said, he underwent lung surgery twice and lymph node surgery two times as well.

He did not indicate when he began the PD-1 therapy.

According to the American Cancer Society, PD-1 is a protein that acts as an “off switch” to keep certain immune cells — T cells — from attacking normal cells. PD-1 inhibitor therapy blocks this protein to help the immune system better find and attack cancer cells.

Jones, 82, serves as the Cowboys’ president and general manager in addition to his role as owner. The first public mention of his diagnosis appears to have come during Episode 5 of the Netflix docuseries “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” which will be released Tuesday.

While telling an anecdote about a completely different subject — his relationship with former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson — Jones casually mentions that “12 or so years ago … I had some cancer treatment” at MD Anderson.

The Morning News followed up on that comment during its wider-range interview with Jones.

Corrie’s Suranne Jones plays Prime Minister with rap star for Netflix thriller

After gracing the Weatherfield cobbles and other hit shows, Suranne Jones stars in Netflix’s political thriller Hostage, sharing the spotlight with a grime star.

Bombshells, diplomacy and danger collide in Matt Charman’s new thriller Hostage – and some grime fans might be surprised to see one of their favourite stars grace the screen.

From the cobbles of Coronation Street to Doctor Foster, Vigil and Gentleman Jack – winning a TV Bafta on the way – Suranne Jones has cemented herself as one of Britain’s best-loved acting talents.

Now, the versatile star is taking on her most powerful role yet – quite literally – as the British Prime Minister in Hostage, Netflix’s explosive new political thriller from Oscar-nominated Matt Charman (Bridge Of Spies).

In Hostage, Suranne plays Abigail Dalton, a politician plunged into chaos when her husband, Dr Alex Anderson, is kidnapped. And she made sure she was thoroughly prepared and did her homework.

“I don’t think I’m allowed to say [who], but I did speak to three really high-up women from different parties,” Suranne, 46, says. “I read their books and I interviewed them, and that was very exciting.”

That attention to detail paid off. Abigail isn’t just a PM fighting for her family – she’s a woman balancing power and vulnerability. Portraying the latter involved getting close to her co-star and on-screen husband, Ashley Thomas, aka grime star Bashy.

“We did chemistry tests, and when he came in, it was just like, ‘Oh, you’re intriguing, handsome, lovely, smart, intelligent,’” Suranne remembers. “And then we met our daughter (Isobel Akuwudike), who is also brilliant. It was her first job.”

Ashley also prepared thoroughly to portray medic Alex. He consulted real-life doctors, but it was the emotional weight of Alex’s kidnapping that hit the hardest.

“That was tough. Putting yourself in those places is heavy – especially as Alex is a father,” says Ashley. “The environment I’ve come from, I’ve witnessed and experienced a lot of trauma, so there were things I was able to pull from.”

While Abigail grapples with domestic turmoil, things aren’t calm across the Channel either. French President Vivienne Toussaint – played by French-American actress Julie Delpy – is battling her own political scandal after being blackmailed.

During a state visit to the UK, Vivienne is forced to work with Abigail to expose a common enemy, despite their vastly different political backgrounds.

“She’s quite conflicted, which I liked,” Julie, 55, says. “She is someone who started out with ideals but had to give up part of what she believes in to get access to power.”

Vivienne is dangerous and captivating – a role that seemed made for Julie, who has spent her career tackling complex characters. “She might not be a very good person, but she’s more than just a bad guy,” Julie adds.

But beneath her icy exterior lies a secret: an age-gap relationship that threatens everything. “A May-September relationship these days isn’t a big deal – but this is a little darker and more complicated than that. A little more destructive,” Julie explains.

Bashy aka Ashley Thomas takes centre stage in Hostage as Suranne Jones' on-screen husband

“Her husband is key in her ascent to power, so to put herself in this situation and put everything at risk is kamikaze.” Hostage shows Vivienne’s struggle to keep her Achilles’ heel hidden.

“She’s good at handling situations and power, but her weakness is her hidden side,” Julie says. “She’s romantically involved with someone she shouldn’t be and that’s a huge weakness for a politician – especially a woman.”

Before Sunrise actress Julie embraced the opportunity to portray someone morally grey. “I loved the idea of playing someone very different from me,” she says. “She’s not the most likeable of characters, but that’s fine with me.

If they are unlikeable as a person, you find a way to approach them as a human being. When I played a Nazi character, she was obviously repulsive, but then you have to think that she sees it differently.”

Despite Vivienne’s complicated personality, Julie found herself intrigued by her. “It was interesting to see someone that seems so rational and together, but behind the mask, her life is a mess,” she says.

“I’m the opposite – I look messy and crazy, but I would never do what she does!” And when it comes to politics? “I’m not interested at all [in politics] because of the compromises you would have to make. I don’t even do that in the movie business, and you see a lot of people give up their morals to succeed. I’m not able to do that. I’m just not that kind of person.”

Julie’s first day of filming for Hostage set the tone that the tense series demanded. “I’m always nervous, and not just on the first day,” she admits.

“My first day on Hostage was a kissing scene – so it was even more stressful than usual. I didn’t know this person so I had to switch off my mind a little.”

If that wasn’t enough, the role involved linguistic hurdles, too. Julie had to learn the more official, formal speeches in English. “Those are hard enough in your own language, but to do them as a non-native speaker was tough,” she says.

Luckily, the tension on screen was offset by the real-life camaraderie with her castmates – particularly Suranne. “She’s a lovely person and a great actress,” Julie says.

“Sometimes, it takes a little time to find your way with certain people, but with Suranne it was immediate. I like communication to be quick and fast and clear, I have no time for ego and she’s like that as well. So it made it very easy.”

The friendly feelings appear to be mutual. Suranne revealed during a recent appearance on the Table Manners podcast, “There were a lot of unrepeatable stories, told in the make-up trailer. Julie would be talking in the corner, and then everyone would go quiet!”

Gethin Jones sends poignant message to co-star Helen Skelton amid ‘romance’

Gethin Jones has further fuelled speculation he’s in a new romance with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after sending her a flirty birthday message

Gethin Jones has continued to fuel romance rumours with his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton after he sent her a sweet birthday message on social media.

The TV presenters have been close pals for a while, but their friendship is said to have developed into something more after they were spotted leaving the BAFTAs together back in May. Though they have yet to confirm they are in a relationship, they have been spotted hanging out off set and enjoying a spa day at a country club recently.

In a further clue things are hotting up between the pair, Gethin, 47, took to his Instagram stories to publicly wish Helen happy birthday as she turned 42 on Saturday. Posting a photo of animal-loving Helen surrounded by a flock of sheep, Gethin wrote ‘Pen-blwydd Hapus’, which is Happy Birthday in his native Welsh.

He then joked: “Having the best time hanging out with your mates,” and added a kiss at the end of the message, suggesting their relationship is more than platonic.

The single stars have both had their hearts broken in recent years. Gethin’s engagement to Katherine Jenkins was called off in 2011 and he’s had a string of short relationships since. While Helen split from ex-husband Richie Myler – who she shares three kids with – back in 2022.

Helen and Leeds Rhinos rugby player Richie, 35, had been married eight years and had just welcomed their third child, Elsie, when he they split. He now has two more children with Stephanie, also 35, whose millionaire father Andrew Thirkill is president of Richie’s rugby club.

Shocking her followers at the time, Helen broke the upsetting news on Instagram and said: “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children.”

Writing in her 2023 autobiography, In My Stride, Helen recalled her heartbreaking split and described how she hadn’t seen it coming. She wrote: “I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn’t see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me.”

Despite Richie leaving her, Helen refuses to cut him out of her life entirely for the sake of their kids. She says she always wants her children to have a father figure and know their parents were once in love and happy. It’s for this reason she’s decided to keep photos of her and Richie on her Instagram, instead of deleting them. She explained: “I want them to know that we loved each other, but things change and that’s OK too.”

Welshman Gethin has not been romantically linked to anyone since he dated First Dates star Cici Coleman. In the past, he is also thought to have briefly dated former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh.

Gethin and Helen first sparked rumours of a possible romance in March when they both took part in a 24-hour roller skate challenge for Comic Relief which raised £34 million for charity. Gethin has publicly praised Helen’s resilience as he gushed about how he loved spending time with her.

While Helen publicly said of Gethin: “My dear @gethinjonesc… You are some man. I don’t publicly say often enough how much love and respect I have for you my friend because I assume it is well known, but for the record you’re a legend and I am beyond grateful to have you by my side on the rink, the sofa and beyond.’

So if Helen has found love again with Gethin it would be some happy news. And it certainly looks like it’s heading that way. A source told MailOnline: “Helen and Gethin have an extremely close working relationship and there’s a feeling in recent months their friendship has blossomed into a deeper connection. They’re both keen to keep a lid on it to avoid public scrutiny, but there’s no denying their closeness both on and off screen.”

Trump sues Dow Jones and Rupert Murdoch over alleged Trump letter to Epstein

President Trump sued Dow Jones and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, for libel on Friday, striking back against the publication of a bombshell story in the Wall Street Journal alleging the president sent a sordid letter to notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein in the early 2000s.

The Journal, a Dow Jones publication, reported Thursday that Trump sent a raunchy 50th birthday card to Epstein that included a sketch of a naked woman, featuring breasts and a squiggly “Donald” signature mimicking pubic hair.

The paper said it had reviewed copies of a collection of lewd letters that Epstein’s longtime companion, Ghislaine Maxwell, gathered from Epstein’s friends and colleagues and compiled in an album to mark his 2003 birthday.

“We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS ‘article’ in the useless ‘rag’ that is, The Wall Street Journal,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Friday, adding that the suit also targets Murdoch and the reporters on the story.

The suit comes amid renewed questions over the nature of Trump’s years-long friendship with Epstein, the late and disgraced financier whose sprawling sex trafficking ring victimized more than 200 women and girls.

On Friday, the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said that FBI officials reviewing more 100,000 records from the Epstein investigation in March were directed to flag any documents that mentioned Trump.

In a letter to leadership of the Justice Department, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois said his office “was told that these personnel were instructed to ‘flag’ any records in which President Trump was mentioned.”

Trump had already been facing mounting pressure from his MAGA base to publicly release Justice Department files from the case of Epstein.

Trump ordered Atty. Gen. Pam Bondi to reverse course on a recent decision to close the case and unseal grand jury testimony. The Justice Department filed a motion to begin that process on Friday afternoon.

“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,” Trump announced Thursday on Truth Social. “This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!”

The Department of Justice and FBI declared earlier this month in a memo that Epstein’s case was closed and his 2019 death in a New York city jail was a suicide. But Bondi, a Trump appointee and arch loyalist, immediately agreed Thursday to Trump’s new demand.

“President Trump — we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts,” Bondi wrote on X.

It remains to be seen if Trump and Bondi will persuade a federal judge in New York to release the grand jury transcripts. Such documents are typically not made public and released only under narrowly defined circumstances.

Trump and Epstein became friends in the 1980s.

“I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,” Mr. Trump told New York magazine, in 2002, noting that Epstein was “a lot of fun to be with” and “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

But their friendship apparently broke down in 2008 after Epstein was convicted of child sexual offenses. Their relationship — and the possibility of Trump’s involvement in Epstein’s crimes — has been scrutinized ever since.

The Epstein case has riveted Trump’s Republican base, largely because of the multimillionaire financier’s connections to rich and powerful people they suspect were involved in his child sex trafficking.

But releasing the files is not entirely up to Trump, even if he wanted to.

“You’ve got decades’ worth of materials,” said David Weinstein, a Miami defense attorney and former federal prosecutor, who said the disclosure of grand jury information is governed by federal rules and cannot be released without a court order.

Even if material does get released, it will pertain only to Epstein and Maxwell’s direct activities — and will be much more limited than the volume of investigative materials, including witness interviews, emails, videos and photos that otherwise exist.

Additionally, “there’s a lot of redactions that will have to be made,” Weinstein said, noting the number of individuals who might have been associated with Epstein during the investigation but were not themselves suspected or charged with crimes. “You’ve seen some of that already in the civil cases that were filed, and where courts have said, ‘No, this is what can be put on the docket.’”

After the Department of Justice dropped the case, many of Trump’s most vocal allies, such as U.S. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), openly dissented from the administration and called for the release of all files.

Earlier this week, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie introduced the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, which would require Bondi to make public all unclassified records, documents and investigative materials that the Department of Justice holds on the Epstein case.

“We all deserve to know what’s in the Epstein files, who’s implicated, and how deep this corruption goes,” Massie said in a statement. “Americans were promised justice and transparency. We’re introducing a discharge petition to force a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on releasing the COMPLETE files.”

A poll conducted by the Economist/YouGov this month found that 83% of Trump’s 2024 supporters favor the government releasing all material related to the Epstein case.

Japan v Wales: Adam Jones outlines what a player feels like after losing for Wales

Just such an opportunity comes in Kobe on Saturday, as Wales look to level the series in their final game of the season.

Wales are aiming to ensure they do not go a full international campaign without a win after suffering nine defeats in 2024-25.

“At the moment we’re in this big losing streak but that one win will give them a bit of confidence to kick on,” said Jones.

“It’s the last week of the season, which is always tough, but there’s a carrot at the end of it.

“They’ve got five weeks off after this now, so they’ve put everything into this last game and hopefully we’ll get the result we want.”

While the players get five weeks off, Jones will be straight back to the day job at Harlequins on Monday morning after having had two stints with Wales during the Six Nations and summer tour.

Jones was brought into the Wales set-up by Warren Gatland, who then left his role after defeat against Italy in Rome in February, with Matt Sherratt taking over as interim head coach.

Jones was retained for the summer tour, with his Harlequins head coach Danny Wilson also brought in on a temporary basis to look after the forwards.

Despite all the trauma, with six defeats and no wins so far while he has been involved, Jones has no regrets about his international return, after playing his final game for Wales in 2014.

“I’ve loved it, it’s been brilliant,” said Jones.

“It’s been just over a decade since I last played for Wales and I loved representing my country.

“Playing for them for 11 years changed my life. The chance to represent them as a coach has been just as special.

“It’s been frustrating. It’s been pretty strange with Gats bringing me in where I had god knows how many questions over whether we get on anymore.

“Next thing he’s gone, so that was strange.

“I have enjoyed it but then I just get straight back into it with Harlequins on Monday and I might be a bit jet-lagged.”

Tired, maybe, but Jones will hope he has the memory of that long-awaited Wales win to give him a boost.

The One Show dropped from BBC schedule as Alex Jones makes announcement

The One Show has been dropped from BBC schedules after it was announced that Alex Jones and Roman Kemp are taking a long break from the hit BBC programme

The One Show is set for a hiatus from BBC schedules due to a significant TV revamp – and it won’t be back for a while.

Presenters Alex Jones and Roman Kemp are stepping away from their usual weekday slot at 7pm on BBC One as Wimbledon takes centre stage.

From Monday, June 30, the prestigious tennis event will dominate the main BBC channels, running daily for a fortnight.

Wimbledon coverage will alternate between BBC One and BBC Two, with evening broadcasts on the primary channel at 7pm, usurping The One Show’s regular timeslot.

Alex concluded last Friday’s episode by announcing: “We are taking a bit of a break for the next four weeks and we’ll be back on Monday, 28th July but there’s plenty to enjoy like Wimbledon and the Euros,” reports Wales Online.

In other changes, EastEnders will temporarily move to BBC Two on June 30 and July 1, featuring consecutive episodes at 7pm and 7.30pm.

Daytime TV is also affected, with Escape To The Country being ousted from its familiar 3pm weekday spot on BBC One to make room for tennis.

On Wednesday, July 2, Wimbledon’s evening matches will air on BBC Two, while BBC One airs Match of the Day for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Group A match between Switzerland and Norway.

This programming overhaul follows closely behind another announcement made on The One Show.

During the June 25 broadcast, Alex Jones, alongside Clara Amfo, welcomed Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox to commemorate Watchdog’s 40th anniversary.

In honour of the significant milestone, Matt and Nikki dedicated the show to the programme, reflecting on some of their recent triumphs, which ranged from undercover investigations to major business policy changes and substantial refunds.

As the show concluded, Matt expressed: “Happy birthday Watchdog and everybody who has worked on the show, amazing people. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us over the last 40 years because without you it would not mean a thing.”

Nikki chimed in: “We can not do it without your stories.”

The television presenter then revealed that the show will be taking a ‘break’, announcing: “Watch Dog is going to be taking a break over summer and we are back in September so please keep them coming.”

Chandler Jones, San José football standout, dies at 33 in collision

Chandler “the Jet” Jones, a local football legend who set records as a wide receiver at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance and San José State University, died at age 33 in a freeway accident in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to the L.A. County medical examiner.

Jones was hit by a Toyota RAV4 near the Centinela Avenue off-ramp of the 90 Freeway around 2 a.m. Sunday, the California Highway Patrol told MyNewsLA.

“It is with great sadness that we share the passing of alum, Chandler Jones ‘09,” Bishop Montgomery High School said in a Facebook post. “Jones was a standout player on Bishop’s football team and still holds the record for longest kick-off return (97 yards) and longest fumble recovery (98 yards).”

Jones was a star wide receiver as a San José Spartan and, after a brief stint in the pros, went on to hold coaching positions at his alma mater, as well as the College of Idaho and the Montreal Alouettes.

“Forever in our hearts, #89,” the San José State football program wrote on X. “In loving memory of Spartan wide receiver and coach, Chandler Jones.”

For the record:

9:44 a.m. June 24, 2025A previous version of this article listed the wrong university for coaches Brent Brennan and Greg Stewart. They coach at the University of Arizona, not Arizona State University.

His former San José State football coach Brent Brennan, who now coaches at the University of Arizona, said on X that his heart was broken by the news of Jones’ death.

“From his freshman year as a WR, to coaching on our staff, he made @SanJoseStateFB better everyday,” said Brennan. “The Jet was special. Love you brother.”

During his 2013 season at San José State, Jones ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West Conference in receiving yards per reception. During that season, he caught he caught 79 passes for 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns from quarterback David Fales, who went on to play for the Chicago Bears, according to reporting from CBS Sports. Jones also ranks second on the Spartans’ career leaderboard in receiving yards with 3,087.

After finishing his Spartan career, Jones went on to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns practice squads in 2014. He joined the Montreal Alouettes practice squad in 2015 and played for the team in 2016, before returning to San José State as a coach in 2017.

“My heart is truly broken — My good friend and my fellow coach welcomed me with open arms when we met in Idaho,” wrote University of Arizona assistant football coach Greg Stewart on X. “Chandler “The Jet” Jones was the real deal, I will always cherish my time with you my brother.”

BBC The One Show’s Alex Jones left red-faced as Roman Kemp forced to step in

The One Show host Alex Jones was left red-faced during Tuesday’s episode as she suffered an awkward blunder

The One Show’s Alex Jones was left red-faced after a hilarious on-air gaffe required her co-star to jump in.

In the episode aired on Tuesday (June 24), the Welsh presenter was joined by Roman Kemp as they chatted with a host of celebrities on the BBC One show.

The pair welcomed Lena Dunham, who discussed her latest Netflix romantic comedy ‘Too Much’, with co-stars Megan Stalter and The White Lotus actor Will Sharpe lounging on the famous green sofa.

Football legend Ian Wright also featured, sharing his journey back to his roots to kick off a girls’ football team, alongside head coach Paul Palmer.

But it was a particular moment that caused Alex to blush. With Wimbledon fever gripping the nation, they tuned into a pre-recorded segment with Chris Bavin at a strawberry farm, highlighting the soaring demand for strawberries during the tournament, with a staggering 200 million expected to be consumed, reports Wales Online.

Returning to the studio post-clip, Alex seemed momentarily unprepared to proceed, casually asking Roman: “Do you put sugar on your strawberries?”

Roman hesitated, prompting Alex to interject: “I was thinking that watching and thought I bet you do” to which Roman confessed: “You know I put sugar on everything. It’s just the way it is.”

Caught up in their banter, Alex turned to Roman and urged him to take over, saying: “Right carry on.” Realising her error, she glanced at the camera and said: “Oh it’s me.”

The studio erupted in giggles as Roman queried: “Do you want me to go?” and a red-faced giggling Alex responded: “Yeah go on.”

It comes as another blunder earlier this week saw Alex come to the rescue after EastEnders legend Michelle Collins made a mistake.

In the episode aired on June 24th, the Albert Square favourite discussed her upcoming hiatus from the beloved BBC soap to embark on a new challenge.

This August, the seasoned actress is set to captivate audiences at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with her solo act in the darkly humorous Motorhome Marilyn, penned by Ben Weatherill.

Fellow guest Sean Hayes, curious about her performance schedule, enquired: “So when does it start?” eliciting an uncertain reply from Michelle, “Umm 29th of July?”.

An awkward pause later, Alex had to intervene correcting Michelle, with an animated look towards the lens, “No. It’s the 30th.”

Laughter filled the air as Michelle quickly amended: “The 30th, thank you Alex. Don’t come on the 29th.”

UFC: Jon Jones did not retire to avoid Tom Aspinall, says Ilia Topuria

Former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones did not retire to avoid fighting Tom Aspinall, says Ilia Topuria.

Britain’s Aspinall was upgraded from interim to undisputed heavyweight champion this week after Jones, 37, announced his exit from the sport.

Jones’ retirement followed seven months of the American not committing to fighting 32-year-old Aspinall in a unification bout.

Spain’s Topuria, who faces Brazilian Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title at UFC 317 in Las Vegas on Saturday, says Jones did not “duck” a fight with Aspinall.

“No, no, no, no, no. Jones fought the best of all time. In the last 10 years he fought the best fighters in the world. He’s not ducking anyone,” Topuria told BBC Sport.

“I think that he could retire whenever he wants. He has done amazing things in the sport. He’s let’s say, the best to ever do it. So I think he took a good decision. He’s the GOAT [greatest of all time].”

Tom Aspinall is UFC’s undisputed heavyweight champ as Jon Jones retires | Mixed Martial Arts News

Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Jon Jones has retired, and interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has been elevated to the undisputed title holder, Dana White, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president and CEO, confirmed.

“Jon Jones called us last night and retired,” White said during a news conference on Saturday in Azerbaijan, where UFC Fight Night was held.

“Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.”

Jones, who turns 38 on July 19, has compiled a win-loss record of 28-1 with 11 total knockouts (TKOs), capturing UFC titles at light heavyweight and heavyweight. He was in line for a highly anticipated unification bout with Aspinall, 32, who became the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion in November 2023 when an injured Jones could not fight.

Englishman Aspinall (15-3 win-loss in MMA, 11 TKOs, 8-1 win-loss in UFC) posted a message on Instagram after White’s announcement.

“For you fans. It’s time to get this heavyweight division going,” wrote Aspinall, 32. “An active undisputed champion.”

Jones last fought on November 16, 2024, winning by a third-round TKO over Stipe Miocic. Jones has won six consecutive bouts since a no contest with Daniel Cormier on July 29, 2017.

White’s announcement countered words of Jones on Thursday when he appeared on the “Full Send” podcast.

“I don’t want to say that I’m retired because fighting’s in my blood,” Jones said on the podcast, per multiple media reports. “Right now, I could really care less about fighting. I’ve been doing it my whole life at a very high level and when the itch comes back – and if it comes back too, then I’ll do it with my whole heart, do it to the best of my abilities.”

Jones has had a chequered history out of the octagon, where he became the youngest UFC title holder at age 23 with a win over Mauricio Rua for the 205-pound crown. Jones, who is 16-0 in UFC title bouts, has dealt with legal issues was well as a yearlong suspension in 2016 for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs – a result he disputes.

Rountree Jr downs Hill in Baku

Meanwhile, former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Khalil Rountree Jr earned a dominant unanimous decision against Jamahal Hill in the main event of the Fight Night, taking the cards 49-46, 50-45, 50-45.

Utilising leg kicks and knocking the former light heavyweight champion down on several occasions, Rountree Jr (15-6 win-loss in MMA) is open to multiple options for his next fight, as long as he remains in the light heavyweight title picture.

“I didn’t come in here underestimating Jamahal,” Rountree said.

Hill (12-4 win-loss in MMA) has lost three in a row and is searching for his first win since January 2023.

The co-main event went the way of hometown lightweight Rafael Fiziev (13-4 win-loss in MMA), winning a unanimous decision against Ignacio Bahamondes 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 for his first victory since July 2022. Fiziev’s striking ability made the difference, as it was the first loss for Bahamondes (17-6 win-loss in MMA) since August 2023. Fiziev does not prefer whom he fights next, as he entered the bout ranked 11th in the division.

Heavyweight Curtis Blaydes outlasted debutant Rizvan Kuniev, earning a split decision 29-28, 28-29, 29-28. Blaydes (19-5 win-loss in MMA) bounced back after falling victim to UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall last July at UFC 304.

In one of the most high-octane UFC fights in recent memory, lightweight Nazim Sadykhov overcame a Herculean effort from Nikolas Motta to secure a late second-round TKO at 4:17. Sadykhov was nearly finished by a plethora of Motta strikes in the first round before Sadykhov turned the fight around in the second. Sadykhov (11-1-1 win-loss MMA) has won 11 of his last 13 fights, landing a 75-punch combination to seal the deal. Motta (15-6 win-loss MMA) suffered his first loss since June 2023.

Netflix has released first look images of Hostage, a new political thriller starring Suranne Jones in her first-ever project for the streaming platform.

The five part series will see Jones take on the role of British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, who finds herself in crisis when her husband is kidnapped. French screen queen Julie Delpy will co-star as fictional French President Vivienne Toussaint, who is blackmailed around the same time.

Both women end up having to make very difficult decisions which put their political reputations on the line. Netflix’s synopsis teases: “When the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped and the visiting French President is blackmailed, the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices.

“Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?”

The series is written by Bridge of Spies and Treason creator Matt Charman, with Jones doubling up as an executive producer. The Vigil and Doctor Foster star has opened up about the project, saying: “I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

“We’d talked about projects previously, but for me it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect – me and Matt together backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.”

Charman praised Jones’s performance, saying: “I’ve been dying to find the right story to tell with Suranne and I honestly believe what she’s done with this character is going to blow the Netflix audience away. An embattled British PM in the middle of a fight for her country and her family – she’s fierce, ruthless and you can’t take your eyes off of her.”

Julie Delpy will also be joining Jones on screen alongside a star-studded cast that also includes Queen Charlotte’s Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati (Gangs of London), Ashley Thomas (The Ipcress File), James Cosmo (Shetland), Martin McCann (Blue Lights), and Jehnny Beth (An Impossible Love). Hostage will premiere on Netflix on August 21.

Suranne Jones has also recently joined the cast of a new ITV heist drama, Frauds. She will be starring as Bert, a criminal who ended up in a Spanish prison for a decade but still has plans to complete one final big job when she gets out of lockup.

The actress spoke about the show, which she is starring in alongside Jodie Whittaker, saying: “Working on Frauds with Anne-Marie and Monumental for the last two years has been a wild ride. We took the idea of toxic female friendship and turned it on its head to give the heist genre an emotional heartbeat.

“I have always wanted to work with Jodie, and now I am. I hope you love Bert and Sam and all they get up to as much as we do.”
