THE beloved “Hogwarts Express” steam train could be heading for the buffers thanks to a bitter health and safety row.

The iconic service, made famous by the Harry Potter film series, is under threat after rules forced a major overhaul.

The iconic train, known as The Jacobite steam train, runs through Scotland’s stunning countryside between Fort William and Mallaig, crossing the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct.

But now the popular locomotive – which is enjoyed by around 70,000 passengers a year – is at a crossroads due to a long-running dispute over safety regulations and the resulting financial strain.  

Old-style carriages used in the films have effectively been banned because their doors don’t have central locking.

Operator West Coast Railways says being forced to swap them out has caused huge problems.

Newer coaches are unpopular with tourists and far more expensive to run. They even require a diesel engine at the back just to power air conditioning.

The train, which should have started running this month, has yet to begin its 2026 season.

Bosses are now begging regulators at the Office of Rail and Road to allow the return of the original carriages.

James Shuttleworth of West Coast told The Telegraph: “I don’t know what we would do. We were losing money working like that and you don’t go into business to lose money.”

Local businesses are already feeling the pain, with trade slumping as visitors stay away.

Fears are now growing that unless a solution is found soon, the world-famous Hogwarts Express could run out of track for good.

MYLEENE Klass is back in the swim of things in a white bikini — 20 years after famously wearing one in the I’m A Celebrity jungle shower.

The presenter, 48, wore the simple two-piece in the sea in a South Africa photoshoot.

The design is for Freemans.com — after her first range for them sold out last year.

Myleene first wore her most famous look during a stint on the ITV1 show in 2006, on which she was a runner–up behind winner Matt Willis, 42.

She then returned to the jungle to compete in 2023’s first all-stars series, I’m A Celebrity… South Africa, which she won.

She previously said she had no idea the 2006 swimwear — later auctioned for £7,500 for charity — would cause a stir and bought it in a rush before the show.

She admitted last year: “I remember one of the show’s producers looking at my bikinis in the hotel before I went to camp.

“One was covered in stripes, and they said, ‘We’ll have to stop at the shops as that’s probably going to strobe on camera’.

“I ran into the shop en route to the jungle and asked the shop assistant for the plainest bikini she had. Best $40 I ever spent!”

Reaching his father’s time will be hugely challenging – some might say impossible.

“Most people who know swimming will be like, ‘he has no chance’,” Adam says. “But I want to try.”

But Adam says the 12 months ahead are about more than strokes, leg kicks, minutes and seconds.

Having not swam seriously since he was 18, he only got back into the sport after his father’s death to “feel connected to him” as he grieved.

Adam hopes to travel to some of the pools his father swam in, including in Sri Lanka – where David was born to Scottish parents, in Scotland itself, Miami and even Montreal.

He will also raise money for Sports Aid, who help support youngsters with the expense that come with chasing sporting dreams, and take advice from his dad’s former team-mates.

“Doing this challenge has allowed me to go back through his life,” Adam says.

“My dad retired at 22, long before I came along, so it’s a part of his life that I didn’t necessarily know that much about.

“I’m hoping I’ve got a lot of his swimming genes, so we’ll see as the year unfolds.

“I want this story to demonstrate how amazing swimmers are, how hard this sport is and how much effort, time and work these guys and girls put in to get to where they are.

“And I want to demonstrate how good my dad was.”
