Robbie Williams breaks silence after eclipsing The Beatles to make chart history and reveals why he’s QUIT UK

HE is already one of the most famous men in Britain, with a record 18 Brit Awards and record sales exceeding 80million.

And today, Robbie Williams has made history once again when his latest album Britpop soared to the top of the charts – meaning he has now surpassed The Beatles to become the act with the most No1 albums in UK history, with a total of 16.

In an exclusive chat after finding out the news, he said: “It’s absolutely insane.

“I’m still trying to take it all in and figure out what it all means.“I can just tell you that I’m glad that it’s happened to me.”

It comes a week after it was revealed he has quit the UK and is now splitting his time between the Bahamas and Miami, having only moved back to London from Los Angeles in 2022.

Revealing why he left the UK, he said of his new life in the sun: “Not going to lie, it’s not s**t. I’m done with bad weather.“

HE’S THE ONE

Inside Robbie Williams’ wild career as he looks set to eclipse The Beatles

BRIT OF A SHOCK

Robbie Williams surprises fans by dropping new Britpop album

“I was out of the UK for like 24 years and then I was in the UK, and I know what I prefer.

“Unfortunately it goes dark and grey at the end of September. And if you’re lucky, it doesn’t stop being dark and grey until the end of May.

“So I’m doing away with that bit and just being in the sunshine. And if you can, why not? Why wouldn’t you?”

And maybe he’ll come back here in the summer?

“Yeah. I mean, everybody’s heading to the Cotswolds, aren’t they? I’d like to do that.”

I’m bigger than the Beatles and Jesus. There you go, there’s your headline.

Robbie Williams

Robbie’s incredible new chart feat was unveiled this afternoon, although neither of the surviving Beatles members Sir Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr had been in touch… yet.

He quipped: “No, but I’m bigger than the Beatles and Jesus. There you go, there’s your headline.

‘I’m a more monster’

“It doesn’t make any sense. The Beatles, the best band to ever exist. They did everything before they split up and then achieved what they achieved with their solo careers and stuff.

Along with explaining why he is quitting the UK – Robbie also revealed he’ll be celebrating with an (expensive) present for wife Ayda FieldCredit: Getty

“And here’s this daft [bloke] from Stoke, wandering into the party and claiming some sort of record that overthrows them for five minutes.

“In my life and in my mind, I’ll have that mean happiness for me.

“But I also realise that the Beatles are the Beatles. Elvis is Elvis. And I should be stacking some shelves in an Asda in Stoke-on-Trent, so I’m just very, very lucky.”

It’s an astonishing feat, having landed his first solo No1 album in 1997 with Life Thru A Lens after leaving Take That – and also scoring seven No1 singles along the way.

Ayda’s coming in tomorrow and a few of the kids are coming in tomorrow too. I guess I’ll be celebrating by buying Ayda a handbag. She doesn’t do cheap handbags.”

Robbie Williams

Joining on a Zoom call from a lavish hotel suite in Paris, he said he will be celebrating there this weekend – and his wife Ayda Field will be reaping the rewards.

He admitted: “Ayda’s coming in tomorrow and a few of the kids are coming in tomorrow too. I guess I’ll be celebrating by buying Ayda a handbag.

“She doesn’t do cheap handbags.”

At only 51, there’s plenty of life in Robbie yet, and I won’t be surprised if he has loads more No1s in the future.

Asked if he has a total he wants to hit, he said: “I think this could be an end to want and need in this particular field…”

But then he conceded: “Oh, who am I kidding?

“I always want more. I’ve got a more problem. I’m a more monster. The hole is unfillable. So, yeah, f**k, scrap everything I’ve just said. I want more.”

And he is relishing the success.

On whether he knows where his other No1 awards are, he panned the camera over to a table featuring all 16.

“Why would I?” he chuckled.

“They’re coming everywhere with me now.

“There’s nothing in my house that would suggest I am me and I do what I do for a living.

“Those should be somewhere. Maybe in the garage where I could, if I’m just showing people around, go, ‘Oh, yeah, those. Oh, who put those there?’”

During the chat, he also let slip that he has “five albums ready to go”, so there will be more music to come in the next few years.

He explained: “They’re all demos right now. But I don’t think I will be writing, I don’t think I have to write for a long time. I’ve already done it all. There’s a vault full of stuff.”

But self-deprecating as always, he added: “Whether great swathes of the general public will want it from me, who knows and who cares? But I’ve got stuff to deliver.”

Aston Villa: Unai Emery says he pushed Youri Tielemans because ‘he’s my son’

“It might be innocent, but I don’t like that,” former Villa defender Joleon Lescott said on TNT Sports.

“Regardless of what it was for, if it was the other way around and the player refused to shake his manager’s hand, there would be uproar, and his mentality and professionalism would be questioned.

“I’m sure it’s more innocent than it looks, but I don’t like the look of it.”

Emery, who has won the Europa League a record four times as a manager, was managing his 100th game in the competition and said he is “dreaming” of a fifth title.

Bush Says He’s ‘Aware of What’s Going On’

President Bush said that he did not live “in a bubble” and that he was well aware of what was going on outside the White House, rejecting critics’ claims that he was out of touch with public opinion.

“I don’t feel in a bubble,” Bush said in an interview on “NBC Nightly News.”

“I feel like I’m getting really good advice from very capable people, and that people from all walks of life have informed me and informed those who advise me. And I feel very comfortable that I’m very aware of what’s going on,” Bush said. “Every morning, I look at the newspaper.”

Since his split from TV presenter Fearne 13 months ago, Jesse has struggled to find paid work and is living off savings, the Daily Mail reported.

He was summoned to Lavender Hill Magistrates Court after he was snapped driving at 27mph in a 20mph zone in Earls Court last year.

Representing himself in court, the father-of-four said: “I was due to be employed in 2024 but it got delayed.

“At the moment I’m living off my savings and I am looking to get employment.”

Fearne Cotton’s ex Jesse Wood makes first public appearance with girlfriend

He added that his income recorded on last years tax returns cashed in at around £14,000.

Son of Rolling Stone legend Ronnie Wood, Jesse lives in a £3 million townhouse in Richmond.

He shares two children with Fearne and two from a previous relationship.

Jesse apologised to the court for his fourth speeding incident, which occurred on the A4 Cromwell Road.

The court was told he already had nine points on his license for similar speeding offences recorded in the last year.

Jesse pleaded guilty to the latest offence and received a six-month driving ban and three additional penalty points.

His plea secured him a third of a reduction on the fine which was cut from £134 to £89.

The court ordered him to pay a surcharge of £36 and £130 contribution to court costs.

Fearne announced her split with Jesse on December 16 2024, following 10 years of marriage.

A statement read: “It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage.

“Our priority has been and always will be our children.”

At the time, The Sun understood Jesse moved out while Fearne remained in the family home in West London.

The Sun previously revealed Fearne, 43, has found love again with TV director Elliot Hegarty.

Meanwhile Jesse made his first public appearance with his new girlfriend, Made In Chelsea alum Gemma Gregory in July 2025.

He’s 94 and still a ‘lifer’

At 94, John Rodriguez has the dubious distinction of being the oldest inmate in the California prison system.

He looks the part, with his snow-white hair and unsteady gait. But given the crime that put him in prison, he’s hardly a sympathetic character.

Rodriguez murdered his wife during a drunken rage on a December day in 1981. He claimed she’d been cheating on him. For that, he stabbed her 26 times with a paring knife. His punishment was a sentence of 16 years to life, and he’s spent most of it at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo.

He’s been recommended for parole six times, all of which have been rejected by the last three governors, who characterized him as a threat to society.

Rodriguez isn’t alone in his inability to get parole. Since 1988, when California voters gave the governor the power to overrule parole board recommendations for “lifers,” the number from that category who have been freed has slowed to a trickle.

Gov. Gray Davis released only six lifers during his five-year tenure. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s numbers are higher but dropping steadily. In 2004, he released 72 lifers, but only 23 last year.

In today’s era of stiffer sentences, California politicians are less likely to let convicted murderers go free. But pressure to release the elderly and infirm is increasing, given the state’s overflowing prisons. In Sacramento recently, demonstrators urged lawmakers to start thinning the inmate population by releasing geriatric and incapacitated prisoners such as Rodriguez.

Don Specter, whose nonprofit Prison Law Office offers free legal services to California prisoners, said the Rodriguez case “shows how irrational the parole process is.”

“The law says you should pay a price for this kind of crime, but not your whole life,” he said. “The question becomes, what does the state gain by keeping this man in prison?”

Rodriguez uses a walker and is hard of hearing. He has arthritis and is often forgetful. He’s taken some hard falls over the years, breaking his arms and severely bruising himself. He’s lived in the prison hospital for two years, sleeping in a dormitory setting rather than a cell.

He’s become a fixture around the low-security hospital, where his normal daytime attire is pajama bottoms and a blue prison shirt. Part of his routine is a Sunday visit to the Indian sweat lodge on the prison grounds. And he is a regular at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, an important facet of his life if he ever wants to be released.

For the moment, though, his chances don’t look good.

His latest parole hearing is set for June, a few weeks after he turns 95. But Schwarzenegger has already turned him down once, saying that the “gravity alone of the murder” is enough to conclude that Rodriguez would pose an “unreasonable public safety risk.”

Rodriguez’s lawyer, Michael Beckman, contends that a crime that took place more than a quarter-century ago does not equate to the feeble man in prison today. Since he was sentenced, Rodriguez’s most flagrant violations involved phone privileges. Larry Vizard, a prison spokesman, said Rodriguez’s last infraction of any kind was in 1992.

Besides his clean prison record, Beckman also points to the Bronze Star that Rodriguez won during World War II and the fact that he has a family willing to take him in.

The office of Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) has taken an interest in the case because of Rodriguez’s veteran’s status.

There is no organized opposition to his release except from the Monterey Park Police Department, which investigated the murder of his wife, Alicia Trejo.

“The victim is not here, and we’re still the advocate of the victim,” said Capt. James Smith, a department spokesman.

Rodriguez says he has remorse over the murder, that he was insane with jealousy because his much younger wife had taken up with a man closer to her age.

“I just want to get out and be left alone,” he said. “I’m sorry for what happened and I shouldn’t have done it.”

He’s been saying that for a long time. The reasons the governors have given for denying parole focus largely on the heinous nature of the crime and concern that Rodriguez would hurt someone else if freed. According to parole hearing documents, much of that centers on the possibility that he will get drunk and go on a tear.

Beckman said Rodriguez has done 10 years more than his minimum sentence for second-degree murder, has never been a disciplinary problem and should be released.

As far back as 2002, Tom Bordonaro, then the parole board’s presiding commissioner, said that if anyone was eligible for release, it was Rodriguez. “He’s clearly done his time,” Bordonaro said after the hearing. “He’s clearly beyond his matrix.”

Words to that effect have been spoken five other times, and Rodriguez responded with gratitude — only to be told later that the parole had been reversed.

The story of John Rodriguez is set against the backdrop of a prison system in which the population is getting dramatically older, facilities are overcrowded and the mechanism to parole inmates is weighted down by bureaucracy and antiquated procedures — so much so that California is under federal court order to speed up the process to resolve the backlog.

The problem facing the prison system was perhaps summed up best — if inadvertently — by Lawrence Morrison, an L.A. County deputy district attorney, in his argument last year against Rodriguez’s release: “This is a difficult case of the type of which the board and governors and prosecutors are going to be facing with an increasing aging population,” he said. “Looking at the inmate right now sitting in a wheelchair, he looks like everybody’s grandparents.”

More and more will be looking like Rodriguez in the coming years. One recent projection is that by 2030, California will have 33,000 geriatric prisoners, compared with about 9,500 now. The increases are attributable to longer sentences, mandatory minimum-sentencing laws and tighter parole policies.

According to one study, the average cost of housing a geriatric prisoner — defined as 55 or older — is about $70,000, two to three times the cost for a younger inmate. The bill climbs even higher for those with serious physical and mental disabilities.

No one, including Rodriguez, tries to downplay the murder that sent him to prison.

As Rodriguez recounted to police, he began drinking early that morning in 1981 and, by about 5 p.m., had consumed an estimated 18 beers.

He then went to Trejo’s home and struck her when she opened the door. He began stabbing her with a paring knife, chasing her from room to room as she tried to escape. After he killed her, Rodriguez walked to his own home, where he was waiting when police arrived to arrest him. He was 68 at the time.

When his parole was rejected last year, Linda Shelton, the presiding parole board commissioner, said she wanted to help him avoid having a board decision again reversed by the governor. She suggested that he become a regular at AA meetings.

“You don’t have to talk in there,” she said. “You just have to go to meetings and listen and you might be able to help other people too.”

He does attend meetings, but Beckman contends his client wouldn’t present a problem even if he did drink: “If he drank a beer, it would probably put him to sleep.”

Beckman also said the aging inmate has been offered a place to stay on the outside.

It comes from Dolores and Antonieta PonceDeLeon of Los Angeles. Dolores said her husband, Fernando, met Rodriguez in prison, liked him and wanted the family to offer him a place to stay when he was released.

Fernando PonceDeLeon died of a heart attack 10 years ago, after his own release from prison. But mother and daughter feel duty-bound to offer Rodriguez a place to stay as a way of honoring Fernando’s wishes.

They have sent letters to the board guaranteeing a room for Rodriguez. They sent another one in mid-March when they thought the parole hearing was days away. It was later moved to June.

“He’s getting so discouraged each time he doesn’t get out,” Antonieta PonceDeLeon said. “I think he’s got a few years left where he could have a good life.”

A long criminal history

John Rodriguez was born in Mexico and spent most of his life in Louisiana, Texas and California. His criminal history includes several drunk driving offenses and a conviction for dealing heroin.

His first brush with the law occurred in 1929, when he was stopped in Dallas on a traffic violation. After serving in the European theater in World War II, Rodriguez returned to California, where he was arrested in 1951 — at age 38 — on suspicion of robbery.

In 1957, he was arrested in the first of 10 drunk driving offenses. And in 1961, he was convicted of conspiring to possess and sell narcotics and of possessing heroin. He was sentenced to five years to life and was paroled in 1969.

Rodriguez was married four times and fathered nine children. As far as prison and parole officials know, he has little, if any, contact with his children, the oldest of whom is 72.

During his working life, Rodriguez was a cook, an interpreter and a delivery driver. He now spends much of his day lying in a prison hospital bed, though he takes pride in the fact that he still has some vigor left.

“I don’t look like I’m old,” he said. “There’s a 70-year-old man here who looks older than me.”

Trump says he’s ‘inclined’ to keep ExxonMobil out of Venezuela after CEO’s remarks

President Trump said Sunday that he is “inclined” to keep ExxonMobil out of Venezuela after its top executive voiced skepticism about oil investment efforts in the country after the U.S. toppling of President Nicolás Maduro.

“I didn’t like Exxon’s response,” Trump said to reporters on Air Force One as he departed West Palm Beach, Fla. “They’re playing too cute.”

During a meeting Friday with oil executives, Trump tried to assuage the concerns of the companies and said they would be dealing directly with the U.S., rather than the Venezuelan government.

Some weren’t convinced.

“If we look at the commercial constructs and frameworks in place today in Venezuela, today it’s uninvestable,” said Darren Woods, chief executive of ExxonMobil, the largest U.S. oil company.

An ExxonMobil spokesperson did not immediately respond Sunday to a request for comment.

Trump signed an executive order Friday that seeks to ensure that Venezuelan oil revenue remains protected from being used in judicial proceedings.

The order, made public Saturday, says that if the funds were to be seized for such use, it could “undermine critical U.S. efforts to ensure economic and political stability in Venezuela.” Venezuela has a history of state asset seizures, ongoing U.S. sanctions and decades of political uncertainty.

Getting U.S. oil companies to invest in Venezuela and help rebuild the country’s infrastructure is a top priority of the Trump administration after Maduro’s capture.

The White House is framing the effort to “run” Venezuela in economic terms, and Trump has seized tankers carrying Venezuelan oil, has said the U.S. is taking over the sales of 30 million to 50 million barrels of previously sanctioned Venezuelan crude, and plans to control sales worldwide indefinitely.

Trump says he’s not worried about China’s blockade drills of Taiwan

Dec. 30 (UPI) — China continued its live-fire drill called “Justice Mission 2025,” on Tuesday creating a blockade around Taiwan and disrupting flights, but President Donald Trump said he’s not worried.

Reporters asked Trump about the drills Monday, and he said he has a “great relationship with President Xi [Jinping], and he hasn’t told me anything about it.”

“I certainly have seen it … I don’t believe he is going to be doing it,” Trump said. He didn’t elaborate on what he meant that Xi could do. “Nothing worries me.”

“They’ve been doing naval exercises for 20 years in that area,” he told reporters.

Trump is expected to make a formal visit to Beijing next year.

Though Taiwan is a self-governing democracy, China claims it is a Chinese province. China has been pushing for a “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan. But it hasn’t ruled out taking the island nation by force.

On Friday, China sanctioned U.S. companies and their leadership after the United States announced an $11.1 billion arms deal with Taiwan on Dec. 18.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said it detected 130 Chinese military aircraft and 22 naval and coast guard vessels in the past 24 hours up to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“China ignores the expectations of the international community for peace and persists in destroying regional stability with military threat, which is a blatant provocation to regional security and international order, and I would like to express my strongest condemnation,” President Lai Ching-te said Tuesday in a Facebook post.

Lai also said the drills were disrupting trade and air traffic.

“China’s military provocations along the First Island Chain severely disrupt global maritime trade, air traffic and regional peace. #Taiwan continues to act responsibly, neither escalating tensions nor yielding to threats – we will steadfastly defend our freedom against coercion,” he said on X.

Taiwan Defense Minister Wellington Koo said the drills disregarded international norms and “clearly aim to achieve cognitive warfare and deplete Taiwan’s combat capabilities … and to create division and conflict within Taiwanese society,” The Guardian reported.

This exercise is the sixth of its kind since 2022, though it’s the largest. In 2022, the drills were in retaliation for then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi‘s visit. But this is the first time since then that China has created “maritime exclusion zones.” Planes and boats were not allowed to pass during the drills.

‘I’ve worked with Bradley Walsh for years and know what he’s like behind the scenes’

Following claims that he “corpses deliberately” on The Chase, a long-time friend has revealed what Bradley Walsh is really like when the cameras stop rolling

A friend and colleague of Bradley Walsh has revealed what it’s been like working alongside The Chase presenter for over four decades. The 64-year-old host has been at the helm of the ITV quiz programme since its launch in 2009.

Never one to take things too seriously, Bradley regularly has a laugh with the chasers and contestants and has been known to be left in hysterics over amusing questions and responses.

One of his most unforgettable moments occurred when he couldn’t contain his laughter over a query about German skier Fanny Chmelar.

After some viewers accused him of faking his reactions, Bradley set the record straight, insisting he doesn’t know what’s coming next.

“I don’t pre-read them, I do it as it is, I literally play the game,” he explained. “If I get a reaction, then it’s much better.”

During an appearance on Laura Hamilton’s Mile Fly Club podcast, he added: “I’ll read what’s on the autocue and half the time, I don’t realise what I’ve said,” reports the Express.

Discussing the infamous Fanny Chmelar incident, Bradley went on to say: “And people, still today, think I’m corpsing deliberately but I’m not, that’s actually me laughing, I had no idea that was [coming] up.”

Backing his long-time friend, Joe Pasquale said The Chase host is the same person on and off screen.

“Bradley is what you see, he does what he says on the tin, what you see is what you get with Brad,” the comedian revealed.

“We’ve been mates for 40 years, myself, Brian [Conley] and Shane [Richie], we all started off together, which is what’s great about The Prat Pack tour.”

Beyond their joint touring, Joe also recently caught Bradley off guard when he turned up as the fresh quizmaster on Beat The Chasers.

Joe joined the panel for a special one-off episode, adopting the moniker Maverick.

Prior to unveiling his true self, Joe was given strict instructions to keep his identity under wraps from the Chasers, audiences, and particularly Bradley.

Speaking about the measures he took to remain disguised, he revealed: “I’d been on the road with Bradley all year, we’ve known each other for 40 years but literally just before filming we had been on the road together. He knows me inside out, he knows my body movements.

“I had to be really calm because I talk really fast and I’m very physical, the producer said, ‘Don’t move, just keep really still and talk very slowly so he doesn’t suss it’s you.’ So it was quite hard for me.”

Thankfully, the comedian succeeded in concealing his identity from Bradley, leaving the presenter “genuinely surprised” by his reveal.

When questioned whether the host was miffed by his deception, he quipped: “He’s never furious with me, he’s like my big brother.”

He’s Taking Local Politics National : Derek Shearer, a Top Adviser to Bill Clinton, Learned a Lot at City Hall

Derek Shearer is in the big leagues now, but he cut his political teeth in Santa Monica.

Shearer, a top economic adviser to Democratic presidential nominee Bill Clinton, was a planning commissioner in Santa Monica for five years. He credits the city with teaching him about politics and about what an activist government can do.

Now busy with the Clinton campaign, Shearer can be found churning out memos, fielding press calls, lunching with Clinton supporters and doing a hundred other tasks necessary to run the campaign in California. He has been on leave since June from his position as a public policy professor at Occidental College.

The Santa Monica resident spends half his time on the road trying to get across to the electorate Clinton’s economic manifesto, which he helped craft along with Rhode Island businessman Ira Magaziner and Harvard economist Robert Reich. The booklet-length document outlines Clinton’s economic plan and is credited with helping revive the lagging Clinton campaign in June.

An old friend of Clinton, Shearer said the plan incorporates few of his own original ideas. “I don’t try to push my solutions” on the candidate, he said. Instead, he advises Clinton on a range of subjects, helping the candidate find information and expertise.

“Derek is the kind of person that thinks you should bring a lot of people together to discuss an issue,” said Manuel Pastor, an economics professor at Occidental and a fellow at the college’s International and Public Affairs Center, which Shearer directs.

But Shearer is a believer in the Clinton message.

“The core message is not that we need better tinkering with the Federal Reserve or we need to tinker a bit with this or that tax rate,” Shearer said. “It’s that there are structural problems in the economy. We need to deal with the institutions in the society, a lot of which are run down or decayed or not running very well.”

He points to SMASH, the alternative public school his children attended in Santa Monica, as an example of the country’s decaying infrastructure. Built in the 1930s, the school is “crumbling,” Shearer said.

Shearer and Clinton met in the late ‘60s when Shearer was working as a free-lance journalist in London and Clinton was on a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford. Both shared an opposition to the Vietnam War and a passionate interest in government. The two men, both 45, have remained friends since.

Shearer said that when they met Clinton was much the same as he is today–”a natural politician” and unrelentingly gregarious.

When Clinton visited Shearer’s home during the California primary, he stood out in the middle of the street and talked to neighbors, Shearer recalled.

And during an impromptu visit to the Venice beach boardwalk, Clinton took the opportunity to talk policy with roller-skaters. He attracted such a large crowd in a bookstore that he eventually had to make a quick getaway out the back door, Shearer said.

“He’s very at ease with people and always has been,” he said.

Even during the lowest points of the Clinton campaign–when charges of marital infidelity were flying–Shearer never lost faith in his chosen candidate.

And he had been there before. “I had been involved in the (Gary) Hart campaign four years before. I had always felt that Hart should not have withdrawn, that the American people want to hear about issues,” Shearer said. He felt the same way about Clinton.

Shearer has taught at UCLA, Tufts University in Massachusetts and the UC Santa Barbara. He moved to Occidental in 1981 and now directs its public policy program.

He tries to bring his zest for real world politics to the classroom, teaching about “how policy really gets made.” His students learn to deal with bureaucracies, write up policy decisions and even craft public relations brochures.

Shearer said he often invites journalists, campaign consultants and local politicians to talk to students, along with nationally known figures such as consumer advocate Ralph Nader and economist John Kenneth Galbraith.

By most accounts, Shearer is more liberal than Clinton. In fact, the Orange County Register in an Aug. 4 editorial singled out Shearer as evidence of the Clinton campaign’s leanings to the left.

But Shearer rejects the “liberal” label in favor of “progressive.”

“What being a progressive means is that you believe that government can make a difference in people’s lives,” he said.

To Shearer, the city in which he lives offers an example.

Smart planning and wise public investment have given Santa Monica its place in the sun, he said. He pointed to the Third Street Promenade–and the decision to zone it to encourage movie theaters to move to the area–as an example of good planning. The theaters attract lots of customers who patronize other businesses on the walkway, he said.

Although Santa Monica is touted by travel writers and urban planners alike as a pleasant and livable community, elections have always been contentious. Because of his experiences here, he is unfazed by the bruising presidential race.

Shearer recalled personal attacks when he ran on a reform slate in Santa Monica in 1981. When his wife, Ruth Goldway, served as mayor in the early ‘80s, she received death threats and had to have police protection, he said.

Shearer made the leap from local politics to the national scene quite some time ago. In fact, it seems as if the Yale graduate was destined for a role in government. His office at Occidental is full of photographs of himself with well-known political figures, among them Sen. Alan Cranston and, of course, Clinton. One black-and-white photo shows Shearer’s journalist father interviewing Lyndon Johnson.

Shearer served on the board of directors for the National Consumer Cooperative Bank during the Carter Administration, and in the 1970s, he was an economic adviser to Jerry Brown.

But Shearer refused to speculate about the role he would play in a Clinton administration.

“I’ve learned . . . that you don’t plan your life around the outcomes of campaigns,” he said.

‘Doomed’ Nickelodeon star Tylor Chase reveals horror list of drugs he’s on

A FORMER Nickelodeon child star has laid bare his life on the streets, revealing a staggering list of drugs he says he is taking even as his mother urges fans not to help him financially.

Tylor Chase, 36, once a fresh-faced teen actor on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, is now roaming the streets of Riverside, California, picking up cigarette butts and discarded Christmas cards.

When reporters found Chase behind a 7-Eleven on Monday, he was digging in the dirt, dressed in a torn jacket, a scruffy LA Raiders polo and pants patched with characters from Rugrats.

His hands were cut and blistered, dirt packed under his fingernails.

Offered food, Chase instead asked for marijuana.

“I could use maybe a joint or a bong. Do you guys smoke weed?” he told the Daily Mail.

He also revealed the list of drugs he says he is taking while living on the streets.

“I like to vape,” Chase said, adding that he takes “Prozac, Adderall, Sudafed, Wellbutrin or also Zoloft,” which he claimed were prescribed by a psychiatrist, though he denied having any diagnosed mental health conditions.

Chase rose to fame at 15 playing brainy Martin Qwerly on the Nickelodeon hit from 2004 to 2007.

After the show wrapped, his acting career fizzled and his life slowly unraveled.

In 2014, he posted bleak poetry online hinting at his mental state.

In one poem titled Bipolar, he wrote: “I’m a leaf in a running gutter with the inevitable fate of ending up in a drain… Perhaps I am doomed. Perhaps I have done nothing. Perhaps I am nothing.”

The former actor eventually moved to Riverside “about seven to nine years” ago, where his mother lives.

He tried to pursue art, self-publishing two fantasy novels in 2020 and continuing to post poetry online until 2021.

But Chase also began spending more time on the streets and racked up a long rap sheet.

Riverside County court records show 12 criminal cases since August 2023, including eight this year.

His most recent arrests involve alleged shoplifting and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Both cases are ongoing.

Riverside Police say Chase is not wanted for any crimes.

Police spokesman Ryan Railsback told the Mail that during all interactions with cops, Chase “has been cordial and cooperative”.

He added that officers offer him shelter, treatment and mental health services weekly, all of which he has declined.

Despite his appearance, Chase insisted he is not homeless.

“I stay around here locally. My mom is here,” he said.

“I have a lot of good people helping me.

“It’s not too shabby. A lot of people help out. It goes a long way.”

Chase said he may move back to Georgia to live with his father and enter a housing assistance programme.

“I’m not really active homeless at this time,” he said.

“I’m thinking that I would like to go see my dad… Probably a housing assistance program in Georgia most likely.”

After videos of Chase looking unrecognisable went viral, a GoFundMe raised more than $1,200.

But his mother, Paula Moisio, demanded it be taken down.

“Tylor needs medical attention not money. But he refuses it,” she wrote in messages shared online.

“Money would not be a benefit to him. He can’t manage money for his meds by himself.”

Trump says he’s inviting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to next year’s G20 summit in Miami

President Trump said he will be extending invitations to next year’s U.S.-hosted Group of 20 summit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as the Republican administration looks to deepen its relationship with the Central Asian nations.

Trump announced the plan on Tuesday after holding separate phone calls with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Neither country is a member of the G20, but the host country of the annual leaders’ gathering of major economies often invites non-members to attend the summit. The 2026 gathering is planned for Trump’s golf club in Doral, Fla., near Miami.

“The relationship with both Countries is spectacular,” Trump said in a social media post about the calls. Trump is currently on vacation at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The Kazakh and Uzbek leaders visited Washington last month along with the leaders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan for talks with Trump.

The administration is giving greater attention to Central Asia, which holds deep reserves of minerals and produces roughly half the world’s uranium, as it intensifies the hunt for rare earth metals needed for high-tech devices, including smartphones, electric vehicles and fighter jets.

Central Asia’s critical mineral exports have long tilted toward China and Russia.

During last month’s visit, Tokayev announced that his Muslim-majority country will join the Abraham Accords, the Trump administration effort to strengthen ties between Israel and Arab and Muslim majority countries.

The largely symbolic move came as the administration is trying to revive an initiative that was the signature foreign policy achievement of Trump’s first term, when his administration forged diplomatic and commercial ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco.

Trump last month announced that he is barring South Africa from participating in next year’s summit at his Miami-area club and will stop all payments and subsidies to the country over its treatment of a U.S. government representative at this year’s meeting.

Trump chose not to have an American government delegation attend this year’s summit hosted by South Africa, saying he did so because its white Afrikaners were being violently persecuted. It is a claim that South Africa, which was mired for decades in racial apartheid, has rejected as baseless.

Jason Manford hits back as he’s branded ‘unfunny’ after hosting Royal Variety

Salfordian comedian Jason Manford was forced to defend himself when Royal Variety Performance viewers went in on him after he hosted the annual televised charity event

Jason Manford got defensive on social media when Royal Variety Performance viewers slated him on social media after it was aired on Sunday. Salford native Jason, 44, hosted the annual charity event, which saw the Prince and Princess of Wales enjoy the show.

But Jason Manford appeared to divide opinion with his jokes about class, opening the show with a quip about his kids being middle class, after he was brought up as a working class lad. Kicking off proceedings on the ITV show, Jason stated: “I’ve created monsters,” before explaining his kids refused warm ‘smashed avocado’, joking that it was actually mushy peas from the chippy.

Although his comedy seemed to go down well with the royals, even getting a chuckle from the Prince of Wales, viewers at home were more critical of the comedian. One viewer commented on social media: “Can’t believe Jason Manford is rehashing all this stuff about his brother and class. Been doing it for years #royalvariety.” Another added: “Nice enough bloke but he ain’t that funny. #RoyalVarietyPerformance.”

A third viewer wrote: “You complete ****hole! 99% of Uk can’t stand u!!” But Jason wasn’t accepting any negativity, replying to the unhinged comment: “Merry Christmas mate.” Not letting go, the viewer added: “You jumped up halibut! You’re a pauper in most eyes!” Jason responded: “And a Happy New Year xx”

Another viewer – who also had no profile picture – commented: “It would be better if he did not shout so much.” On one, Jason added: “It’s a a big room sweetie.”

Someone else commented that they thought Jason is being eyed up for the Strictly job, to which Jason joked: “Funnily no one has called, unless it’s a surprise to me too.” Oblivious, another viewer replied: “No one will either.” Jason got shirty, hitting back: “That was the joke f*** face.”

When another fan commented that Jason was “smashing it”, a disgruntled viewer replied: “We must be watching different shows,” to which Jason said: “Maybe you’re just not in the mood.”

But for every critic, there was praise for Jason’s hosting skills. One viewer posted: “You’re brilliant on Royal Variety! Definitely need to host again next year!” Others realised they’d caught feelings, with one typing: “How good does @JasonManford look!!! I mean DAMMN the crush I have on him wasn’t on the bingo card for 2025 #RoyalVarietyPerformance”

The event, which was recorded in November at the Royal Albert Hall, but aired on Sunday, raises funds for the Royal Variety Charity. The organisation supports entertainers and their families facing hardship and poverty.

For this year’s show, Westlife performed World Of Our Own ahead of their huge tour in their matching black suits and bowties. It was followed by a special performance from the Live Aid musical ‘Just For One Day’ followed, with Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure making an appearance to tell the story.

Stephen Fry appeared as Lady Bracknell from The Importance of Being Earnest, while Jessie J performed an emotional version of her track I’ll Never Know Why. Elsewhere, Britain’s Got Talent winner Harry Moulding performed an trick with the help of members of the audience, while Strictly’s Johannes Radebe led a performance from musical Kinky Boots.

Impressionists followed, with impressions of political leaders including Sir Keir Starmer, Donald Trump and Boris Johnson, while Jason went on to take part in a panto section. The show concluded with a Les Misérables performance, which saw 400 performers, including Michael Ball, Matt Lucas, Katy Secombe, Bradley Jaden and Killian Donnelly, mark the show’s 40th anniversary.
