Passengers warned ‘do not drive’ to Heathrow Airport as flooding shuts roads to two terminals during summer holidays
PASSENGERS are facing serious delays and disruption at Heathrow Airport following flooding in the central terminal area.
Access to both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 is restricted with flyers warned not to try and access either by road.
Heathrow has asked the public to only travel to the terminals via rail and underground services.
If passengers must travel via road they are asked to use park and ride and head to Terminals 5 or 6 to use the free rail services from there.
The airport said: “Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused.”
It comes amid the school summer holidays – marking the busiest period of the year for Heathrow.
In a statment issued via social media Heathrow Airport asked passengers to utilise the Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and Picadilly line services to access the airport.
The statement read: “Flooding in the central terminal area has resulted in on-going road closures restricting access to Terminals 2 and 3.
“Passengers travelling to or from either of these terminals today must not travel by road.
“Passengers are strongly advised to use Heathrow Express, Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line rail services where possible.
“Any passengers that must travel by car must use Park and Ride, head to Terminals 4 or 5 and take free rail services from there, or change at local rail stations.
“Please allow extra time for your journey. Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused.”
