Ryder Cup star dumped from BMW PGA Championship in bizarre SECOND CUT as golf bosses forced into rarely-seen rule change

A RYDER CUP star was dumped out of the BMW PGA Championship after three rounds – following a rarely-seen SECOND CUT.

All 12 Team Europe players plus captain Luke Donald teed it up at Wentworth this week in the last big event before they fly to New York to face the USA.

But DP World Tour chiefs were forced into an unusual rule change.

A whopping 86 made it through the regular cut at the mid-way point after 36 holes on Friday evening – with 26 players tied on two-under-par.

However, a secondary cut can be introduced by the Tournament Director after the third round on Saturday to reduce the field for the final day if more than 84 make it to the weekend.

The secondary cut is designed to ensure the maximum number of players on Sunday is 78.

This was the first time the little-known rule was implemented on the DP World Tour since the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in 2023.

That ensures the leaders can go out at 11.10am on Sunday – allowing enough time for a possible play-off and to stick to TV schedules.

However, it was bad news for Robert MacIntyre.

The fiery Scot – who slammed his driver into the ground after a wayward tee shot on the sixth hole – missed out on a tee time for Sunday’s final round as one of the unlucky 13 to miss the additional cut.

His level-par 72 kept him at -2 and sent him packing alongside Alex Fitzpatrick and Niklas Norgaard among others.

But unlike the regular cut, the 13 golfers ditched after Saturday are still entitled to both ranking points in the Race To Dubai and prize money from Wentworth.

Tommy Fleetwood, fresh from his maiden PGA Tour win, just scraped through to Sunday on -3 with Rory McIlroy two shots better off.

Justin Rose, Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry are all at -7 with Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick on -10.

But MacIntyre’s European team-mates Viktor Hovland (-12) and Tyrrell Hatton (-13) will be hoping to chase down the leaders Alex Noren and Adrien Saddier on -15.

Ironically, Noren is a vice-captain for Donald at Bethpage Black in two weeks’ time.

Emma Raducanu dumped out of US Open by ruthless pal Elena Rybakina as Brit suffers one of her worst Grand Slam defeats

EMMA RADUCANU suffered one of her heaviest defeats at the Grand Slams as she was blown away by clean-hitting Elena Rybakina.

The former US Open champion was crushed 6-1 6-2 in the third round by the 2022 Wimbledon conqueror.

The pair may have shared the doubles court together and have a decent relationship in the locker room but it was one-way traffic for the Eastern European.

Fashion mogul Anna Wintour watched on from Raducanu’s box as the 22-year-old, wearing her lucky colour of red, was easily beaten before most New Yorkers had grabbed their lunches.

It is her misfortune that she has been dumped out of the four Slams this year by multiple champions Iga Swiatek (Australia and French Open) and Aryna Sabalenka (Wimbledon).

The first clash against the Pole represents the heaviest major loss on her CV – a 6-1 6-0 walloping in Melbourne in January.

Up to 34 in the world, her task ahead of the 2026 Australian Open is to be one of the top 32 seeds so she avoids a big name in the opening rounds.

Raducanu’s serving had been impressive this week but then she did have to play two qualifiers from Asia, Ena Shibahara and Janice Tjen, who were both eliminated in under 62 minutes.

This was a significant step-up in class, though Rybakina does not have a great record at the US Open, having never made the quarter-finals before.

Raducanu, 23, was broken for the first time in the tournament as Rybakina managed to read the return and was hitting the ball cleanly and with authority, crushing every ball from the baseline.

The Moscow-born Kazakhstani, 26, was giving Raducanu no time to breathe on a much cooler morning at Flushing Meadows, far removed from some of the more stifling, humid days the players have had to experience in tournaments past.

Rybakina was firmly in charge when she broke for the second time in game six of the first set.

Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper accused of ‘ex vibes’ as Carlos Alcaraz is upstaged by Brits’ awkward embrace at net

The Brit had no answer and after 27 minutes, despite coach Francisco Roig’s constant talk and instructions from the sidelines, she was a set behind.

Even when she thought she could make an inroad into the Rybakina serve, her opponent produced a powerful first serve in response.

Having cruised through her opening two appearances, this was an example of the real Grand Slam challenge, with Rybakina hitting 11 winners, six off the forehand.

Things got any worse at the start of set two as Raducanu crumbled from 40-love up and was  broken by the No9 seed.

Roig, formerly in the Rafa Nadal camp, shouted out “the ball is very heavy” and that is true but it does not help when it comes back at you at such pace and precision.

On the Louis Armstrong Stadium, named after the famous New Orleans-born trumpeter and jazz musician, Raducanu did not have all the time in the world.

In fact her time in the event was all over when 62 minutes on the match clock — her quickest Grand Slam exit.

Man Utd dumped out of League Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town | Football News

Man Utd lost on penalties to Grimsby Town of the fourth tier of English football following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Manchester United sank to a new low under Ruben Amorim by getting eliminated by fourth-tier Grimsby Town after a marathon penalty shootout in the second round of the English League Cup.

Grimsby won a dramatic shootout 12-11 at the 9,000-capacity Blundell Park on England’s east coast, with Bryan Mbeumo missing the decisive penalty on Wednesday.

United needed late goals by Mbeumo and Harry Maguire just to salvage a 2-2 draw in regulation, having trailed 2-0 at halftime.

It will go down as one of the most embarrassing results in United’s history and leaves the team winless in three games so far this campaign, after a woeful 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.

“It’s an amazing feeling, one that will live on forever,” said Grimsby’s Charles Vernam, who scored one of the team’s goals.

Grimsby’s jubilant fans stormed onto the field to celebrate with the players after Mbeumo’s spot kick rebounded off the crossbar to seal United’s fate.

The home team is currently fourth in League Two, and finished the match with a lineup containing several academy graduates and a Faroe Islands international.

United, meanwhile, had 200 million pounds ($270m) worth of new signings just in its attack in Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

Cunha also failed in the shootout by having his weak attempt saved.

“Going into the penalty shootout, the gaffer (manager) said to us, ‘Lads, all the pressure is on them,’ and it was really,” Grimsby midfielder Kieran Green said.

The result piles more pressure on Amorim, who came into the game with 16 wins from his 44 matches in charge of United after being hired in November.

United was only playing in the second round – for the first time since 2014– after failing to qualify for European competition last season.

That year, the team lost 4-0 at third-tier MK Dons in the second round.

Brighton cruised into round three with a 6-0 demolition of Oxford as Stefanos Tzimas scored twice on his debut.

Fulham and Everton also progressed with 2-0 wins over Bristol City and Mansfield respectively.

Married at First Sight star Marilyse Corrigan has been left single again after her partner of one year ‘dumped her over text’. The personal trainer, who found fame when she met and married Franky Spencer, 50, on the set of the E4 series, and, while they quickly realised it wasn’t meant to be, she found love again with someone else.

Marilyse, 40, met her mystery man, who is not in the public eye, a year ago and things seemed to be going well between the pair but now an insider has claimed that the whole thing has come to a very abrupt end. A source told The Sun : “Marilyse is really upset and can’t believe she’s ended up single again. She was dumped over text after falling head over heels. It was a whirlwind romance and in hindsight she feels she was love bombed.”

Lovebombing, which originated as a term in the 1970s but has gained particular momentum since the advent of social media, is used to describe the action of showering someone with affection to an excessive degree shortly after meeting as a way to secure them into some kind of romantic relationship. The reality star is yet to break her silence on the matter publicly, and has instead chosen to keep her 131,000 Instagram followers up to date with health and fitness tips instead.

After both she and Franky agreed to go their separate ways following their time on the television experiment in 2021, Marilyse struck up a relationship with fellow MAFS star Matt Murray, 34, but even that fizzled out after six months, and she claimed at the time that the whole thing had felt “too intense” for her liking.

At the time, she told new! magazine: “Matt likes to have all of your attention when you’re in a relationship with him. He was needy and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t be his all the time.

“I wouldn’t call them red flags, but there were times when he’d question me about silly things – things that were unnecessary – and then question me about them again.”

In response to Marilyse’s claims, Matt told the Mirror: “I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the comments made about me by Marilyse regarding our relationship.

“Whilst I acknowledge Marilyse’s feelings, I do not agree with her comments. Relationships can be complex and there are always two sides to every story.

“I am very private so I don’t wish to share my side of the story publicly. I would like to draw a line under this now.” He added: “While I understand that Marilyse has shared her perspective on our time together, I want to make it clear that I hold no ill feelings towards her and I wish her nothing but the best.

“I am committed to growth. Moving forward, I am focusing on the positive and surrounding myself with supportive people who encourage me to be my best self.”

“So I started feeling on edge around him.”

Matt had moved on with Marilyse after his spontaneous marriage to Hughes didn’t work out, even though they appeared to have hit it off to begin with. Things turned sour and she decided to call it a day and dumped the tattooed barber with sources claiming he had been causing upset while “gaslighting” his social media followers.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, a source close to Marilyse said: ” We’re all so relieved that Marilyse saw sense and ended things with Matt. He treated her appallingly, she was totally blinded by him, he love-bombed her and she always sees the good in people which left her vulnerable to him.”

When approached for comment at the time, a spokesperson for Marilyse said: ” Marilyse is not surprised by Matt’s recent behaviour on Instagram. She expects nothing less from him.

“Marilyse tried to see the good in him because she knows oh too well how the show edits can portray cast members inaccurately, but unfortunately, as time went on it became clear he didn’t appreciate her.”
