LAST OUTING

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “I’m both devastated and heartbroken to hear of the passing of my MAFS queen and friend Mel.

“I had the pleasure of spending time with Mel in her last days and will forever treasure the laughter, the memories and love we had for each other.

“Mel’s love for life, jokes and of course dancing will forever stay in my heart. What I wouldn’t give to be dancing to Beyoncé with you right now.

“Sleep in perfect peace Mel. Love you ♥️”

Mel was previously diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023, which later spread to her lungs and brain.

Her husband Gareth Brisbane announced the heartbreaking news today in an emotional Instagram post.

Alongside touching pictures of Mel, he said: “Melanie Jane Brisbane-Schilling passed away peacefully today, surrounded by love.

“In her final moments, when I thought cancer had taken away her ability to speak, she ushered me closer and whispered a message for Maddie and me that will sustain me for the rest of my life.

“It took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me.”

He continued: “This is a woman who became a new mum and a TV star at 42 — and nailed both.

“This is a woman who, through two years of chemotherapy, when she could barely lift her head from the pillow, never complained and never stopped showing courage, grace, compassion and empathy, and never missed a day of filming.

“To most of you, she was Mel Schilling — matriarch of MAFS and queen of reality TV. To Maddie and me, she was our wee Melsie: an incredible mum, role model, and soulmate.”

Tributes have poured in for the TV star since the tragic announcement.

Channel 4 hailed Mel as a friend who “radiated joy, warmth and optimism”.

Issuing a statement, it said: “Our thoughts and condolences are, first and foremost, with her family and loved ones.

“We’re privileged to be the channel that is home to Mel’s work, which was at the heart of Married At First Sight‘s phenomenal success, both in the UK and Australia.

“It reflected so much about her – her fierce advocacy for other women, her passion for healthy relationships and her mission to unite people in love.

“For many who work for Channel 4, Mel was not just a colleague but a friend, someone who radiated joy, warmth and optimism, who energized every room she walked into, with humour and positivity.

“Everyone who knew her will miss all this about her and much more. We share in the sorrow that we’re sure many viewers will now feel at this terrible loss.”

She is survived by her daughter Madalyn Rose.

Fleming was confirmed dead by her co-star and friend Jim Beaver in a statement to Variety.

The star died on February 26, from complications after battling the deadly illness.

Later, in a lengthy heartfelt tribute posted to Facebook, 75-year-old Beaver called Fleming his “soulmate”.

STAR MYSTERY

6 unanswered questions in Towie star’s death from eerie phone location to CCTV

“To find a soul mate once in life is something of a miracle. To find one twice is almost unimaginable,” he said.

“To love and be loved is a pearl above price, but such pearls do come more than once or twice to the lucky.”

Beaver said loving her had been devastating, after losing Cecily – the mother of his child – to the same disease.

“I lost Cecily to cancer in 2004,” he said.

“Thursday, I lost Carrie to the same disease. I never thought my heart could break so badly more than once.

“But it has. But, oh, the two torches I carry – what bright, bright light they shed.”

He continued, recounting the first time they met on the set of the popular television series.

“Carrie Anne Fleming was cast as my wife on Supernatural in my fifth season on the show,” he said.

Beaver revealed he had “fallen for her hard” just seconds after meeting her for the first time.

He said he had been “shocked” to find she felt the same way.

“To find oneself paired with someone who not only loves and is loved, but who seems by magic or the grace of the gods to understand you, to want what you are, to want you to be what you are, who GETS you and never feels the need to have you defend who you are, and about whom you feel the same – how many of us can say that spark of divinity has alighted on us once, much less twice? I can,” he said in the heartbreaking tribute.

The pair bonded over both having daughters named Madeline Rose, with Beaver saying the discovery had been “the beginning of a beautiful friendship”.

“We ran lines of dialogue together in my trailer and talked for hours that first day, and the electricity between us was practically visible,” he wrote.

Beaver said the actress had “an amazingly good nature … a rapturous laugh and an utterly adorable personality that didn’t seem to have an off switch”.

“I was so in love I think my eyes turned silver,” he said.

“She seemed to think I was worth hanging around with, too.”

Fleming also starred in other popular shows including iZombie, Smallville, Good Luck Chuck, The L Word, Married Life and Supergirl.

Born on August 16, 1974, in Digby, Nova Scotia, Fleming studied at Mount Douglas Senior Secondary in Victoria, British Columbia, and later attended the Kaleidoscope Theatre as well as the Kidco Theatre Dance Company for drama.

She broke into the industry through an uncredited appearance in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, and later in a role in Viper.

In 2005 she was cast in Dario Argento’s show Masters of Horror, starring as a disfigured woman with cannibalistic urges.

She went on to appear and star in other horror shows, including Bloodsuckers and The Tooth Fairy.

More recently Fleming played Candy Baker on five seasons of the CW’s iZombie.

She also appeared in the 2015 TV film The Unauthorized Full House Story, exploring the behind-the-scenes making of the hit sitcom.

Fleming played the mother of Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, who portrayed D.J. Tanner on the show.

Fleming also performed in a number of British Columbia stage productions, including Steel Magnolias, Noises Off, and Romeo and Juliet.

Tourists devastated after jetting off to Tenerife after saving up for holiday

Storm Therese has battered the Canary Islands with severe weather warnings for storms, flooding, heavy rain, and strong winds – and the chaos is set to continue for several more days

Holidaymakers in Tenerife have been left furious after spending the entire year saving for a week of sunshine – only to arrive and find dreary weather greeting them. During March, Tenerife usually basks in temperatures ranging from 16 to 22 degrees, as Spain starts welcoming visitors back before its hectic summer period.

Yet the island has been battered by Storm Therese, delivering unexpectedly cold temperatures, gloomy conditions, flight cancellations, and even snow alerts in certain regions. Discussing the weather this week, TikTok user @seb_tenerife, who is presently residing on the island, remarked: “This might be the first or second of four bad days of weather.

“A storm – what is going on? It’s meant to have the best climate, I’d say, in Europe, and now we’re four days into a storm. You know we’re in a crisis – I’m in a full tracksuit. What has happened?”

He continued by explaining that visitors have been contacting him regarding the conditions, enquiring whether the weather is expected to improve. Nevertheless, he confessed the forecast keeps shifting every time he examines it, leaving him uncertain whether conditions will brighten up anytime soon.

Responding to his video, one user said: “Same in January. Was great at Christmas. Climate change.”

Another commented: “The last year has been a bit mad weather-wise there. I went in April and then December, and both weeks were overcast and a good few degrees colder than previous years. My friend said it was the coldest December she’s ever had in 10 years of spending Christmas and New Year there.”

A third user said: “Try going in August. I’ve been in April, August, and December for the last three years, and August wins every time – around 28 to 32 degrees last year.”

The forecast

The Canary Islands have been battered by severe weather – and the chaos is far from over. An orange weather alert was issued after days of heavy rain and strong winds, with forecasters warning the miserable conditions could drag on for at least another five days – potentially ruining holiday plans for Brits abroad.

Shocking scenes in Tenerife showed the usually sun-soaked hotspot covered in snow, with icicles forming in some areas. Stunned tourists filmed the whiteout conditions in Teide National Park, where several roads were forced to close.

Snow is expected to continue falling in higher above 1,800 to 2,000 metres, as Storm Therese continues to lash the islands. Torrential rain has already triggered flash flooding and landslides in some areas.

Warnings have been issued for multiple types of extreme weather, including storms, flooding, strong winds, heavy rainfall and dangerous waves. Wind gusts have exceeded a staggering 74mph in places – with the sunshine holidaymakers expect nowhere to be seen. The wild weather has also caused travel chaos, with at least seven flights cancelled or diverted on Thursday alone, following 36 cancellations the day before.

Conditions are expected to worsen on Friday, which could mark the peak of Storm Therese. Orange rain alerts are in place for Tenerife, El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera. Forecasters warn up to 111mm of rain could fall within 12 hours in some areas, while Gran Canaria is under an amber alert, with up to 80mm expected.

Sea conditions are also turning dangerous, particularly between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where waves could reach up to six metres alongside force eight winds. While the storm may ease slightly on Saturday, disruption is still expected. Orange alerts remain in place for Tenerife and La Palma, with winds of up to 55mph set to continue.

Tourists and locals have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from coastal and mountainous areas, and follow official guidance. Schools across the islands have also been forced to close until conditions improve.

Absolute Radio DJ reveals his devastated parents have ‘lost everything’ in scam using fake Martin Lewis ad

ABSOLUTE Radio DJ Andy Bush has revealed heartless scammers have stolen his elderly parents’ life savings.

In total, the devastated couple, both 78, were swindled out of £16,000 in an elaborate scheme that used Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis‘s trusted name to entice them.

A ‘broker’ going by the name of ‘John’ gained Andy’s dad’s trust after he clicked into an online link promising to maximise his savings. In reality, Good Morning Britain star Martin had no affiliation with the advert at all.

Andy, who hosts Hometime with Bush & Richie, told The Sun: “They’re really humiliated.

“My dad’s an ex-computer programmer, systems analyst. So he feels someone like him, who’s had a job like that, shouldn’t be falling for a scam like this. So they feel very, very humiliated.

“I feel like a lot of their kind of plans and dreams have kind of gone up in smoke a little bit because that little nest egg that they had to go and do nice retirement stuff is now suddenly completely gone.”

BANK FAIL

Banking giants hit by ‘glitch’ with customers seeing other users’ transactions

MART-ASS

Martin Lewis’s weird workplace behaviour that left ITV staff ‘mortified’ revealed

Andy’s dad has memory issues, which his son believes made him more susceptible to the scam. Neither Andy, nor his brother, had any idea his parents were moving around large sums of money, and he believes they were coerced by ‘John’ not to tell anyone.

Once his dad had clicked the dodgy link, a portal opened to ‘John’ who was then on the phone to them “non-stop”.

Andy likened it to a romance scam and said his parents told him they would speak to ‘John’ on the phone two or three times a day.

“Even when it all came to light that it was a scam, my mum still wouldn’t believe that John, lovely John, would do this to them. So, they really bought into him as a person,” said Andy.

‘John’ set up a Revolut account on Andy’s parents behalf and began transferring large chunks of money from their TSB savings account.

He coached them on what to say to TSB agents when they queried the transfers — though Andy is upset that the bank didn’t do more to clamp down on the out of character money movements.

“Every time they transferred a chunk of £5,000, £6,000 or whatever, TSB would phone up and go, ‘just making sure you’re not transferring this to whatever’. And they would say, ‘no, no, it’s for this, that or whatever’,” he said.

‘John’ then instructed them to put an app on each of their phones, which allowed him to have full access to all their details and to see what they were doing on their devices.

He also installed a fake crypto exchange that showed their money rising at an impressive rate when in reality it had all but disappeared.

Eventually, Andy found out something was amiss when his mum asked if she could borrow £4,000 in order to deposit it into her account to pass an ‘anti-money laundering check’.

Alarm bells immediately rang and Andy asked her to show him the email from ‘John’. Upon seeing it, he said he knew “straight away” that it was fraudulent.

In the meantime, ‘John’ had arranged a £4,000 loan with M&S Bank, which led to Andy’s parents having to cancel their cards after multiple payments began to be made on them.

Andy’s intervention didn’t immediately put an end to the scamming.

Two days later, his parents received an email from a fake cryptocurrency loss recovery company that claimed it could recover their stolen money.

The fresh scam asked for forms to be submitted and a £3,000 payment paid. Andy said he believed the original scammers were behind it.

Even though, his parents’ phones have been wiped, he said there are still concerns the scammers have access.

Andy and his parents have now instructed CEL Solicitors who specialise in recouping money lost to fraud and have contacted the police.

CEL told him that they deal with 500 such cases a month and some £500m is stolen from people each year in total.

He said: “I’ve had so many messages from people who have not just had their parents scammed like this, but a woman in her 30s was scammed out of money when her baby was seven days old because she wasn’t concentrating properly and just pressed the button. You know, young people, old people.

“My mum and dad don’t know who to trust now.

“It’s brought up some really horrible conversations. My mum and dad have always been very outgoing and doing different things, and they’ve always got plans and all that kind of stuff. Now they have to run pretty much everything past me and my brother just to double-check that they’re not being scammed again.”

HOW TO NOT GET CAUGHT OUT BY A SCAM

Follow these tips by Virgin Money to avoid being caught in a trap…

Protect your details

Never disclose security details, such as your PIN, full banking password or one-time passcode to anyone, even bank staff.

A genuine bank or organisation will never ask you for these on the phone.

Don’t assume an email, text or phone call is authentic.

Just because someone knows your basic details (such as your name and address or even your mother’s maiden name), it doesn’t mean they are genuine.

Remember, criminals can also make any telephone number appear on your phone handset so even if you recognise it or it seems authentic, do not use it as verification they are genuine.

Don’t be rushed

A genuine organisation won’t mind waiting. Under no circumstances would a genuine bank or some other trusted organisation force you to make a financial transaction on the spot.

Always remember: Stop. Think. Check.

Listen to your instincts

You know if something doesn’t feel right.

Criminals may lull you into a false sense of security when you are out and about or rely on your defences being down when you’re in the comfort of your own home.

Stay in control

Don’t panic and make a decision you’ll regret. Have the confidence to refuse unusual requests for personal or financial information.

It’s easy to feel embarrassed when faced with unexpected or complex conversations. But it’s okay to stop the discussion if you do not feel in control of it.
