ONE busy London station has closed until next month – and it is bad news if you are travelling during the day.
Southwark Underground Station in London has now closed during the daytime, every weekday across the next month.

The closure started on August 17 and will run until September 11.
This means that the Jubilee Line will not stop at the station at certain times of the day.

Commuters shouldn’t be impacted too much though as the station will only be closed between 9:45am and 4:15pm, but Transport for London (TfL) is advising passengers to check before they travel.
But families or tourists travelling off peak will not be able to get off at the station.
The tube station is undergoing extensive construction works above ground including two mixed-use buildings being added on top of the site.
High noise levels mean that it is unsafe to run operations during the time construction work is being done.
There will also be a new shopping area and cafe space, as well as a public garden and a play area.
The next nearest station on the Jubilee Line is Waterloo, which is around an eight to 10-minute walk away.

Once work has finished on the station and surrounding site, there will be a 15 storey building with 429 ensuite studio rooms, used as student accommodation.
There will then be another nine storey block, with 44 council homes.
Southwark station opened back in 1999 as part of the Jubilee Line Extension (JLE) and today, 30 trains per hour in each direction at the station.
In November 2025, the station was officially awarded Grade II-listed status by Historic England.
Experts at the time even labelled it as “one of the most memorable and theatrical spaces on the London Underground network”.

Loganair has confirmed it will withdraw all of its operations from a UK airport in October.
The public service obligation (PSO) route is supported by the local authority and the Scottish and UK governments.
But, Loganair stated the contract was “financially unsustainable”.
After announcing the closure of the route, the airline added that it would support its Dundee-based employees to find alternative roles.
Currently, the service runs twice a day during the week and once on Sundays and has been in operation since 2014.
It was originally expected to end earlier on September 28, but the last flights will now run the following month.
The closure of its operating base in Dundee will impact air travel to Orkney and Shetland.
A Loganair spokesperson said: “Following a review of the route’s long-term viability, Loganair can confirm that its Dundee–London Heathrow service will cease after Friday 23 October, and the operating base will close.
“Earlier this year, we served notice to the stakeholder group behind the Public Service Obligation route after the contract became financially unsustainable.
“We have since explored alternative options but have not been able to identify a viable way forward that meets the objectives of the PSO while allowing the route to operate sustainably.
“Customers affected by the change will be contacted directly. We are also supporting Dundee-based colleagues and will explore alternative roles across the Loganair network wherever possible.
“These decisions reflect the same disciplined, decisive approach that has driven previous improvements in Loganair’s punctuality and resilience, protecting the long-term future of the airline, our people, and the lifeline connectivity we provide to communities across our network.”
Budget airline easyJet has confirmed that it was asked to cancel flights from August 10 to October 24, with passengers offered alternative flights.
UK flights to and from the airport, usually operated by easyJet and Air France, include Newcastle, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, Birmingham and Edinburgh.
In an official statement on the airport’s website, it says: “During the work on the runway at Paris-Orly, some flights will be transferred to Paris-Charles de Gaulle from 10 August to 17 December 2026.
“Before you travel, check the flight information provided by Paris Aéroport and view real-time updates on your departure or arrival terminal.”

The main airlines impacted include Air Algérie, KM Malta Airlines, RAM, Pegasus, Iberia and Tunisair.
Works at the airport include renovating the pavements, upgrading lighting and improving the aircraft stands.
Paris- Orly and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport are at opposite sides of Paris, taking around 45 minutes in the car or just over an hour on the train to get between the two.
A POPULAR beach has been partially closed for the remainder of the summer holidays.
Sea dredgers will pump thousands of tonnes of shingle onto the beach to extend part of it by 25m and protect the coastline.

A groyne is also being added at Hove beach, located near Brighton, East Sussex.
Hove was described by The Times as one of the best seaside towns in the UK and “far less crowded and chaotic than Brighton with its relentless stream of boozy day-trippers”.

The partial closure, which begins today, forms part of a wider project that started earlier in the year, to add nine new groynes – known as a groyne field – to the beach, which is scheduled to reopen at the end of August.
A spokesperson for Brighton and Hove City Council (B&HCC) said: “The new shingle will extend the beach between the King Alfred Leisure Centre and Second Avenue by around 25 metres out to sea.
“Helping to protect the area from flooding and coastal erosion, the larger beach will also reduce the amount of shingle washing up onto the promenade, like we see during storms and windy conditions.”
The spokesperson added that the work is scheduled to take around four weeks and needs to be done around high tide.
“During the work, this section of the beach will need to be closed to keep everyone safe,” they added.
Hove Beach is backed by a long esplanade with a cycle lane as well as a grassy area where visitors can find cafes, an amusement arcade, crazy golf and the King Alfred leisure centre.
As previously reported in The Sun, the leisure centre is set to be demolished to make way for a £65 million “entertainment zone”.
The red-brick building has dominated the seafront of one of the UK’s most popular resorts since the outbreak of the Second World War.
Campaigners vying to save the centre were hoping for a last-minute reprieve from Historic England but B&HCC has now approved the plans.

She had announced that Studio Yours, which was a creative space for content creation in the North East, was being closed.
Her post read: “After an incredible couple of years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Studio Yours.
“We want to say a huge thank you to every single person & business who booked in to use our creative space.

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes video to share the secrets of her company, she admitted her financial struggles have been the hardest part of running her company.
Charlotte said: “I have literally put so much money into this business. That is no word of a lie.

A MUCH-LOVED family ride has been forced to close after it appears it derailed and the track split.

Yesterday afternoon, the wooden rollercoaster was forced to close and is still closed today, following some of the carriages of the ride derailing, with a video shared on social media also showing the track split down the middle.

The track in front, which rises before a drop, appears to be broken in several places – though, reportedly, no one was hurt.

More than 750,000 people have travelled with the company since it opened in 2002, with destinations including Prague and Barcelona.
The company also traded under other names including Groupia Golf, GoHen, StagWeb, Groupia School Trips and Company Away Days.
According to the company’s website, Groupia Ltd entered administration on June 16.
The website states: “Nigel Fox and Christopher Marsden of S&W Partners LLP appointed as Joint Administrators.
“The Company has now ceased taking new bookings, and arrangements are in place with ABTOT (a UK government-approved travel protection scheme) to support customers with existing bookings.”
For anyone who had an upcoming event or holiday on or before August 31, “ABTOT have arrangements in place”with events “expected to go ahead as planned”.
Travellers can use the company’s existing VIP booking system to manage their bookings.
On the other hand, if you had something booked from September 1 onwards, the website states: “Your event will unfortunately be cancelled and is subject to a refund claim.”
You can claim back in different ways – either by requesting a credit card refund or a debit card back-charge, with different letters for each available on the company’s website for customers can send to their banks.
There is also an option for anyone who paid a different way to either credit or debit cards.
The website also warns that refunds might take up to six weeks.

The United States has launched fresh strikes against “multiple targets” in Iran at President Donald Trump’s direction, in a fresh escalation that prompted Tehran to declare the Strait of Hormuz closed to “all types of vessels”.
The US military said the strikes late on Wednesday were “in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression”, as Iranian state media reported explosions on Qeshm Island and in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik along the Strait of Hormuz.

Blasts also hit the southern city of Kargan, wounding at least two people.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps accused the US of “repeated violations” of their April ceasefire, and said the Strait of Hormuz was “closed until further notice”.
It said all traffic in the vital waterway, including oil tankers and commercial vessels, would be affected, and firmly rejected the US’s previous claims that it had helped ships pass through the strait.
The IRGC subsequently added that “two oil tankers attempting to illegally pass through the strait were hit”.
The escalation comes a day after the US and Iran exchanged tit-for-tat strikes over the downing of a US Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier, Trump said the US would hit Iran “very hard”.
“We’ll see what happens with the deal. We were really close to a deal. But they keep stringing us along. They keep playing us for suckers because you know what? They dealt with some very stupid presidents. I have to say that I’m embarrassed to say it,” he told reporters at the White House.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian slammed Trump’s threat in a post on X.
“Critical infrastructures are the lifeblood of the people. Threats to target them – from transportation networks to the electricity and water industries – are not a show of strength but a sign of desperation in the face of a nation’s will,” he wrote.
“Iran, relying on the knowledge and capabilities of its specialists, national unity, and solidarity, will stand firm against any pressure or threat,” he added.
Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman cut deeper into the lead of reality television personality Spencer Pratt on Saturday, as his lead slimmed to just a single percentage point.
Pratt fell to just over 27% of the vote while Raman jumped up to slightly over 26%, according to the results from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder. Pratt now leads Raman by just 7,494 votes.
“We’ve seen Nithya Raman catching up on every update and the last two in particular she’s accelerated,” said Paul Mitchell, vice president of the bipartisan voter data firm Political Data Inc. “She’s continued to gain at a rate that means she will eventually catch up unless Pratt starts getting some ballots coming in that are either geographically or demographically better for him.”
Democratic consultant Michael Trujillo, who doesn’t represent anyone in the mayoral race, said the results suggest Raman will surpass Pratt as more votes are counted.
“I think it’s over,” Trujillo said. “It appears Nithya will be in the runoff. Pratt doesn’t appear to be growing much more.”
The second-place finisher in the mayoral primary will face Mayor Karen Bass in a Nov. 3 runoff. On election night Tuesday, the Associated Press determined that Bass had secured enough votes to qualify for the runoff.
Pratt has been in second place since then, but Raman has gradually eroded his lead as mail-in ballots have been counted. The updated vote tally released Thursday showed Pratt with 29% of the vote and Raman with 23%.
With Friday’s update, Raman’s share had risen to 25% and Pratt’s shrank to 28%, for a 3 percentage point gap.
In the most recent batch of mail-in ballots counted, Raman received 23,514 votes, while Pratt gained 10,336.
Election analysts expected Raman to gain ground as the mail-in ballots were tallied, reasoning that many left-of-center voters — Raman’s base — held onto their mail-in ballots until the last minute as they waited to choose between Democratic gubernatorial candidates. They also say younger, more progressive voters tend to hold onto their ballots longer generally.
Although the mayor’s race is nonpartisan, Pratt is a Republican in a city that is overwhelmingly dominated by Democratic voters and elected officials.
A poll by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies, which was co-sponsored by The Times, had Pratt running in third place behind Bass and Raman.
The poll of 1,351 likely voters conducted May 19-24 had Bass with 26% support, Raman with 25% support and Pratt with 22% support, with a 3% margin of error.
Los Angeles voters have become accustomed to seeing election results change as late-arriving ballots are tabulated. In the 2022 mayoral primary, real estate developer Rick Caruso led the pack for about a week before Bass pulled ahead.
Pratt was favored in many of the same neighborhoods that voted for Caruso, according to a Times analysis of precinct-level returns provided by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder on Wednesday, when an estimated 62% of the projected vote had been counted. Raman, by comparison, made inroads in progressive areas dominated by Bass four years ago.
Pratt, whose Pacific Palisades fire home burned in the January 2025 fire, was strong there and on the Westside, as well as in the San Fernando Valley communities of Encino, Woodland Hills, Chatsworth and Sunland-Tujunga.
Raman dominated precincts known for their progressive politics, particularly those with younger people in renter-heavy neighborhoods stretching from Hollywood to Highland Park, including her home base of Silver Lake.
Mail-in ballots with an election day postmark will continue to be accepted by county election officials through Tuesday.
