Cheryl plots huge comeback with new documentary as streaming giants prepare bidding war

CHERYL TWEEDY is set to make a huge comeback with her own documentary.

The Girls Aloud singer has kept a low profile in recent years, but remains one of the UK’s most successful female solo artists and telly stars.

I’m told she is in early talks to create a film about her life and look back at her past successes.

The plan is to document her rise to fame auditioning on Popstars: The Rivals and being a judge on The X Factor as well as touching on her love life.

She is currently single after high-profile marriages to footballer Ashley Cole and restaurateur Jean-Bernard Fernanzed-Versini plus relationships with US dancer Derek Hough and the late One Direction singer Liam Payne, who is the father of her son Bear.

A source said: “Cheryl is incredibly picky about what she chooses to do these days and spends a lot of time on motherhood, but she feels like she has a story to tell.

WHAT NOW?

The chilling questions plaguing the coroner over Liam Payne’s final hours

“The doc could create a bidding war between all of the big streamers — Netflix, Amazon Prime and Apple.

“She would also have creative control over the project.”

Cheryl’s TV project comes after successful documentary series from David and Victoria Beckham, Robbie Williams and Katie Price.

Her PR man did not respond when I reached out for comment.

Last year it was reported that Cheryl was in talks to make a telly comeback by appearing on The Voice, and she was spotted having a low-key dinner in Italy with pal Will.i.am, who is a mentor on the ITV talent show.

Over the years Cheryl has featured in several high-profile documentaries including Access All Areas, which followed her first solo arena tour.

Speaking about the 2012 doc, she said: “I literally had a friend of mine filming so that I would not feel like I had a camera crew in my way and at times forgot myself.

“I have since regretted this decision. The number of times I cringed watching it.”

I’m sure fans would love to go behind the scenes with Cheryl.

SLIPKNOT ‘CUT TIES’ WITH SID

SID WILSON has been “kicked out” of heavy metal band Slipknot after 28 years, according to sources.

The American DJ and keyboardist, who joined the group in 1998, is understood to have been sent packing on Friday.

It comes just five months after Sid – known in the band as #0 – split from his fiancée Kelly Osbourne.

I can reveal Slipknot have also parted ways with the PR company that has represented them since 1995.

A source close to the band told TMZ, “Sid was notified late Friday afternoon that he has been permanently kicked out”.

The musician proposed to Kelly backstage at her dad Ozzy Osbourne‘s final Black Sabbath gig at Villa Park in Birmingham last July.

Just weeks later, Kelly suffered heartbreak when Ozzy passed away.

She and Sid had started dating in 2022 and had son Sidney at the end of the same year.

However, she has since sparked fresh romance rumours with her supposed new hairdresser partner Kiinicki – a Los Angeles-based barber and creative behind the brand Hella Good Hair.

Kelly shared snaps of herself with Kiinicki, who uses they/them pronouns, in April.

And the pair were spotted at an after-party following Lily Allen‘s gig at the London Palladium in March.

Sounds like Kelly has got Sid out of her hair.

JESSICA’S NETFLIX DOCU

AMERICAN singer Jessica Simpson is set to have her life made into a Netflix documentary.

It will be developed by director Joe Pearlman, who created Robbie Williams’ docu-series and Lewis Capaldi How I’m Feeling Now film.

A source said: “It will be a four-parter similar to Robbie Williams’ one. Like him, Jessica has faced her demons and been through trauma having started in the music industry aged 17.

“Filming is expected to start this year and will show Jessica talking about everything she’s been through.”

SAM THOMPSON and Pete Wicks seem to be building an empire – having joined forces on a new financial venture.

I can reveal that former Made In Chelsea star Sam and ex-Towie hunk Pete, who own Staying Relevant Productions and co-host a podcast, have set up PWST Investments Ltd.

Details lodged with Companies House show the nature of the business is “security dealing on own account”, which relates to investing in stocks and shares, futures, securities and commodities.

A source said: “Sam and Pete have become comedy gold on their podcast, but they are serious when it comes to business.”

Move over power couples, bromances are big business.

Bidding for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar UCLA jersey passes $1 million

A UCLA jersey worn by Lew Alcindor in the 1968 NCAA national championship game and the 1969 Final Four is set to garner more than $1 million at auction.

The man who has owned it for the past half century — a former Los Angeles resident who was a huge fan of the player now known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — didn’t have to pay nearly as much for the historic piece.

In fact, he paid no money at all. Instead, he traded for it after a Lakers game in the Forum parking lot back sometime in the mid- to late-1970s, giving up one of his prized possessions as a teenager living in South Gate:

His transistor radio.

“I used to listen to Dodger games on it under my pillow,” said the auction’s consignor, a man named David who asked to have his last name withheld because of privacy concerns.

Back then, David and some friends would often take the bus to the Forum, where they would try to convince fans to give them their extra tickets to attend the Lakers game that night. Afterward, they would wait in the parking lot for players to leave the building.

A UCLA jersey, worn by Lew Alcindor during the 1968 national championship game and a 1969 national semifinal, is up for bid at Grey Flannel Auctions.

(Grey Flannel Auctions)

“We were young and crazy. We waited till the players came out and kind of talked to them,” said David, who says he once walked with Wilt Chamberlain to his car. “And there were other kids there. We would trade stuff, and that is basically how I got the jersey.”

By then, Abdul-Jabbar was a star with the Lakers, after winning three NCAA titles under legendary UCLA coach John Wooden and leading the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship in 1971.

The young man who was originally wearing the No. 33 Bruins jersey that night was actually a USC fan, David said, so the trade was fairly easy to pull off.

“Back then transistor radios were real popular,” David said.

Over the decades, he mostly kept the jersey stored away neatly, occasionally pulling it out for a look or to show others. Recently, David said, he was “just cleaning things out” and decided it was time to part ways with the cherished item.

“I said, you know, someone else will really enjoy this,” David said. “And they’ll display it, and people can enjoy it more than I will stuck in some kind of storage thing.”

According to Michael Russek, director of operations for Grey Flannel Auctions, David didn’t know a lot about the jersey’s history when he first brought it in, only that it was issued by UCLA and had likely been worn by Alcindor in some game at some point.

Photo-matching revealed that he had worn it in several games, including some very significant ones. He wore it while scoring 34 points with 16 rebounds in UCLA’s 78-55 victory over North Carolina in the 1968 national championship game and also during multiple games the following season, including the Bruins’ 85-82 victory over Drake in a national semifinal game (Alcindor had 25 points and 21 rebounds).

“That’s when it really started to come together that we have something that’s truly special,” Russek said.

As of Friday morning, bidding had reached $850,101, with a 22% buyer’s premium bringing the price to nearly $1.04 million. The auction ends Aug. 16.

David said he was “very surprised at how it took off so quick. I’m not familiar with these kind of auctions or jerseys, really. But there’s a lot of alumni from UCLA down there, and a lot of people would like something like that.”

The current Oregon resident added that he hasn’t thought about what he’s going to do with all that cash.

“I’m not the kind of person who does plans for money until I have it,” he said.

World Cup 2026: Lamine Yamal bidding to join elite group of teenagers as Spain play Argentina in final

When asked if Spain would win the World Cup, Lamine Yamal simply smiled and said “yes”.

His words to American broadcaster CBS in the build-up would have come as a surprise to no-one who has seen the confident teenager become one of the best players on the planet.

For many though, for his prediction to come true, Lamine Yamal was going to have to set the tournament alight in his first ever World Cup.

So far, that has just not happened.

The 19-year-old has scored one goal and has not made an assist, but his country have cruised into the final anyway and will face Argentina on Sunday.

While the likes of fellow superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland have had starring roles, Lamine Yamal’s World Cup has been surprisingly understated.

But could this be his moment?

Lamine Yamal’s stats for Spain are incredible. He has yet to lose for his country in the 27 competitive matches he has played. He has started 12 games at major tournaments for Spain and won all of them, the longest 100%-win rate of any European player across major tournaments when starting.

If he scores in New York on Sunday he will become just the third teenager to find the net in a World Cup final, after Pele in 1950 and Mbappe in 2018.

Win the tournament and he becomes just the fourth teenager to ever start a World Cup final and win the trophy, after Pele, Mbappe and Italy’s Giuseppe Bergomi in 1982. Nineteen-year-old team-mate Pau Cubarsi could become the fifth.

“No-one will care whether Lamine has scored lots of goals and created lots of goals,” said one Spain fan. “If he wins the World Cup with Spain, he will be a legend forever.

“If we lose to Argentina, no-one will remember his first World Cup. We know he will have lots of other World Cups and we believe he will become the greatest.

“But not many teenagers get the chance to win a World Cup. This is his chance. He will have regrets if we lose and he hasn’t been able to play his best.”
