Everything you need to know about Strictly Come Dancing’s 2025 final
The three finalists have finally been confirmed after three nail-biting months. This week, EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after her sixth dance off of the series. She went up against Love Island star Amber Davies and her professional partner Nikita Kuzmin.
Balvinder and Julian Caillon performed their Salsa to Rhythm Is Gonna Get You/Get On Your Feet by Gloria Estefan. Meanwhile, Amber and Nikita danced their Couple’s Choice to Fly Me to the Moon by BRIT Award-winner RAYE. Motsi chose to save Amber and Nikita, as did Head Judge Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke. This week, the casting vote was with Craig Revel Horwood, who also chose to save Amber and Nikita.
This means that Amber and Nikita will be competing against George Clarke, Alexis Warr, Karen Carney, and Carlos Gu in the final. The remaining couples will start their rehearsals almost immediately as they each battle it out to be crowned the champion of Strictly Come Dancing 2025.
Speaking about her time on the show, Balvinder said: “I’ve absolutely adored every single minute. All the dance-offs, all the challenges, but just more than anything, just being in this building and dancing on this floor with such an amazing human being. It was my Yes Year, and I said yes to Strictly. My family, we’ve had some hard times, but they’ve been here.”
Speaking about his dance partner, Julian added: “I just think that Bal embodies what this competition is about. Her spirit is unbreakable, and [to Bal] you have shown me that I’m actually dreaming too small, and Bal can inspire us that whatever any of us want in life, all you have to have is the desire to go after it. It took six dance-offs and a perfect score to take this lady out, so I am so, so proud of you!”
This week’s results also had a surprise for hosts Tess and Claudia, who will leave at the end of this series. Ahead of their departure, the pair were shown highlights from their over two decades on the programme – including interviews from the judges and footage alongside the late Sir Bruce Forsyth. Dancer Kai Widdrington also awarded the pair their own and the first-of-its-kind Glitterball Trophy.
Despite next week being Tess and Claudia’s last ever final, the pair will still front the Christmas special episode, which has been pre-recorded.
In October, the pair announced they would be passing over the baton to new presenters in a video shared on social media. Claudia said: “Hi it’s Claud and Tess. There have been some rumblings, and we want you to hear this from us…” Tess then added: “Yeah we have news. After 21 wonderfully joyful years on Strictly we have decided the time is right to step aside and pass on the baton…” “The very sparkly baton…” Claudia continued before she turned to Tess and said: “You’ve been here since the beginning…” Tess then replied: “2004 with Brucey – lovely Bruce. That’s over two decades ago and a lot of that time has been with you. It’s been a huge part of our lives, hasn’t it? Since our children were literally babes in arms and now they’re young adults and I think, genuinely we have cherished every second.”

Filmmaker Carl Erik Rinsch, who directed the 2013 action film “47 Ronin” starring Keanu Reeves, was convicted Thursday for defrauding Netflix of $11 million.
U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff found Rinsch guilty of wire fraud, money laundering and other charges, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York announced. Attorney Benjamin Zeman, who represents Rinsch, denounced the verdict in a statement shared Friday.
“I think the verdict was wrong and I fear that this could set a dangerous precedent for artists who become embroiled in contractual and creative disputes with their benefactors,” Zeman said, “in this case one of the largest media companies in the world, finding themselves indicted by the federal government for fraud.”
A representative for Netflix did not comment on Rinsch’s conviction.
Federal prosecutors alleged in a March indictment that the $11 million was meant to go toward finishing a TV show in which $44 million had already been invested. Prosecutors allege the money instead went into Rinsch’s personal accounts, his personal spending and his personal gains and losses. The director, 48, “quickly transferred” the money from the Rinsch Co. account, where it had been deposited March 6, 2020, by Netflix, through a number of additional accounts until about $10.5 million wound up weeks later in a personal brokerage account. Rinsch proceeded to lose more than half of that money in less than two months via risky investments in the stock market, the indictment said.
Though he told the streamer that his sci-fi show “White Horse” was “awesome and moving forward really well,” Rinsch, over the next couple of years, allegedly moved the remaining money into cryptocurrency and ultimately profited from crypto speculation. He was accused of spending around $10 million on five Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari, watches, clothing, luxury bedding and linens, credit card bills, attorneys to sue Netflix for more money, and lawyers to work on his divorce.
According to the indictment, about $3.8 million was spent on furniture and antiques, including two mattresses that cost $638,000 total. The half-dozen cars cost a little over $2.4 million.
Rinsch was arrested in West Hollywood in March and released the same day after agreeing to post a $100,000 bond to guarantee his appearance in a New York federal court.
“Carl Erik Rinsch took $11 million meant for a TV show and gambled it on speculative stock options and crypto transactions,” U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said Thursday. “Today’s conviction shows that when someone steals from investors, we will follow the money and hold them accountable.”
Rinsch never finished the show. His sentencing is set for April.

EXCLUSIVE: Countryfile and Good Morning Britain presenter Sean Fletcher got emotional as he opened up about losing his mum to bowel cancer eight years ago and running the London Marathon in her memory

Sean Fletcher, known for his roles on Countryfile and Good Morning Britain, has candidly discussed the loss of his mother to cancer and his ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the devastating disease. Besides being a TV presenter and father, Sean is also an avid outdoorsman and runner.
The Countryfile host has recently partnered with GO Outdoors and is now the face of their AW collection. Discussing the new range and the positive impact of outdoor activities on his mentalhealth, Sean said, “So I suppose quite a few of the programmes I do are outdoors, so that’s the first thing, and so, it is either you’re doing some activity outdoors, or meeting people who work and live outdoors.”
He added, “So, it’s a real dream job, because you’re meeting people who are doing something on the land. They do something outside. It might be a farmer, it might be some activities, a person who jumps off cliffs, or something like that, and they’re really passionate about something they do outdoors.”
Sean continued, “I came to this conclusion a long time ago, but it’s just so nourishing. It’s really great for your mental well-being, and personally, I feel that going out recharges my batteries. Whether you’re in a London park or in a place like that, in the middle of nowhere, and you’re being battered by the weather. I just feel really nourished, and I feel better, and I always feel better about being outdoors.
“So, yeah, working with GO Outdoors really makes sense, and then we talk about the growing mental health crisis, and obviously, there are serious mental health issues, but there are people who are struggling on a lower level and going out to these things that are all of ours. It’s all of our countryside,” reports the Express.
The BBC presenter continued, “I just feel really passionate about whether you’re the pensioner who lives in a nice village in the Cotswolds, or you’re a kid from a disadvantaged background in Manchester, it’s all of ours, and it should be accessible to all of us. And part of that is clothing, making it accessible so you can participate in those things.
“They all sort of tie in and kind of by accident, you know, I’ve got into doing some of these things in my work, and I realised that the outdoors was good for me, and then I thought, ‘Oh, actually, it’s good for everyone’, and then I’m working with GO Outdoors because clothing is an important part of that.”
Sean discussed some of his go-to pieces from the range, highlighting a Peter Storm 3-in-1 jacket, whilst emphasising that “layers are important”.
The journalist, who is also an avid runner, spoke candidly about losing his mother to cancer and completing the London Marathon in her honour. The GO Outdoors ambassador revealed he was approached by a GMB producer to participate in the London Marathon for the programme, and despite initial hesitation, Sean described it as the best thing he had ever done.
He revealed: “So my mum had died of bowel cancer eight years before, and so I was an ambassador for Bowel Cancer UK, and it’s emotional, it’s hard, it’s really hard. But I remember I was crying, and what’s so good about the London Marathon is that there are just so many people supporting you.
“Everybody you look at, they’re running for someone who’s died, or someone’s struggling, or a charity that they’re raising money for. It’s just such a feel-good event, and it was amazing, so I ran around four in a row.”
Reflecting on the moment she died, Sean said, “It was all quite quick. It was eight years before, but she kind of kept it from me, and didn’t tell me that she had bowel cancer. And I lived in Wales, and she lived in East Essex, so quite a long way to get to. It took five hours, so I’d have to arrange trips to come and see her.
“She masked it quite well and made sure she was in the hospital, and then I remember visiting her once when she was ill, and she was in the hospital. I went to the ward, and I remember just looking around, thinking, like, ‘gosh, everybody looks very ill’.
“You know, it looked like everybody was very close to death, and so I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ I mean, I’m a journalist. I was like, ‘Well, I’ve got to ask some questions. ‘ So I asked the doctor, and they said, ‘Well, you need to ask your mum, she needs to be the one to tell you’.
“So anyway, I thought, oh, there’s something wrong here. So I quizzed them all, and managed to find out, and three and a half weeks later, she was dead.”
Sean started to become emotional as he recalled, “It was just horrific, and for two of those weeks, I mean, it actually gets me now, those weeks she didn’t talk, so I literally had a week and a half with her because she just spiralled really quickly. It was heartbreaking.”
Sean is a proud ambassador for GO Outdoors, the UK’s largest outdoor retailer. You can shop his autumn-winter collection online or in-store now.

While Junior, 20, and Princess, 18, have grown up in the spotlight both have large followings on social media, Peter and Emily have kept the lives of their younger children much more private, and don’t show their faces on social media.
Peter, who grew up in Australia and whose parents still live there, wrote in his latest New! Magazine column: “Australia has implemented their social media ban for under 16s, and it’s great.
“When people ask me if it’s a contradiction that I’ve had my kids on social media, we have to remember that when social media first started, we were all new to it. We didn’t know the pitfalls of it.
“Now, we’re seeing what AI can do; that’s why our youngest children are not on it.
“I fully support the ban. I know that’s not what kids under 16 want to hear, but it will do them so much good.”
He concluded: “I hope the rest of the world catches on. The dangers are so real.”
On December 10, the Australian Government required social media platforms to deactivate accounts of users under the age of 16.
The platforms – including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat among others – must then take “reasonable steps” to prevent people under 16 from holding an account or face a fine of up to $49.5m (£24.5m).
While Peter and Emily reside in the UK, they do visit his family in Australia, and if they lived there, the ban would apply to all three of their youngest children.
Meanwhile Princess recently opened up exclusively to The Sun about her ITV reality show, The Princess Diaries, which has landed a second series.
She said: “I feel like I’m stepping into adulthood now, and that’s what series two will be more about.
“It is still following my life and everything that I do and everything on there is natural and what my life really is like.
“I’m used to the cameras following me around now, and nothing will be guarded or held back, because there’s nothing that I need to hide.”

Andy Dick says he is “110 percent” fine after video of him slumped over unresponsive on some steps from an apparent overdose in Hollywood circulated this week.
The comedian and convicted sex offender has been updating numerous outlets about the incident, telling the New York Post on Friday that he believes fentanyl is to blame for his medical emergency. This follows his Wednesday interview with TMZ in which he mentioned he doesn’t “mind doing a little crack [cocaine] every now and then.”
“It has to be [fentanyl],” Dick said to the Post, explaining that paramedics told his friends that the synthetic opioid was the likely cause. “That’s the only thing that can kill you that quickly, like I just dropped.”
Dick recounted to both outlets how he was out with friends Tuesday when he saw a stranger waving him over. He then “snuck away” briefly and did some drugs.
“There was a guy that was my age and I felt for him,” Dick said to TMZ. “He was depressed and he was on the sidewalk … and then he whipped out [what looked like] crack. And I’m like, you know what, I might need a little bit of that.”
He told the Post that he then “just dropped,” but declined to elaborate any further.
According to Shawn Harrell, who came across the scene as friends were trying to revive the unresponsive comedian and was present when first responders arrived, Dick was in pretty bad shape Tuesday.
“He was blue. His hands [were] blue and his face was blue,” Harrell told People. “His body was limp. It was like deadweight. … I thought he passed away.”
But after being administered some Narcan, the brand name of a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, Dick reportedly was able to leave the area with a friend and was not transported to a hospital.
“It was a group effort,” one of Dick’s friends said to TMZ.
According to the Post, Dick’s comments about crack were meant to be a joke.
“I jokingly said ‘a little crack every now and then [is] not gonna kill anybody,’ but it killed me,” Dick said. “It killed me. I died, you know, my lips turned purple.”

A former Love Island star has announced her engagement.
Hayley Hughes has shared a collection of glamorous proposal photographs from Dubai on Instagram, showcasing her stunning engagement ring.
The blonde bombshell appeared on the fourth series of the ITV2 reality programme in 2018, which saw Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham crowned winners.
She captioned the post: “12/12 – my forever love. I love you so much.”
Hayley has chosen to maintain her partner’s privacy by cleverly cropping his face from photographs and avoiding any social media tags, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Her son Cody, born in 2023, features in the images, with one touching moment showing Hayley’s fiancé cradling the youngster.
Unsurprisingly, Hayley’s announcement has sparked an avalanche of congratulatory messages from her supporters.
Rosie Williams, who starred alongside Hayley in the same Love Island series, commented: “Congratulations my girl! So happy for you.”
Fellow Islander Liberty Poole, from series seven, simply added: “Congratulations”.
One fan gushed: “Omg huge congratulationsssss. The ringgg. The flowerssssss.”
Another enthused: “Ahhh best news ever! ! So happy for you, wifey era pending.”
Hayley entered Love Island as an original islander in 2018, but following unsuccessful romantic pursuits with Eyal Brooker – who memorably declared “I’m not your hun, hun” – and Charlie Brake, she departed the villa.
Following her Love Island exit, she embarked on a relationship with DJ Tom Zanetti, even appearing in one of his music videos, though their romance concluded after seven months. As 2023 kicked off, Hayley penned a post about spending “another year” with her enigmatic beau.

In a chat with RadioTimes.com following her villa exit, Hayley reflected: “I did really think that Eyal was a bit full on with Megan [Barton Hanson] so soon and he wouldn’t really let Alex [George] have a chance to get to know and speak to her.”
She added: “Obviously I feel like I genuinely am Team Alex in every way because I genuinely want him to meet someone that he has a connection with, because he does have low confidence and things.”

The pair had spent the day together celebrating and marking Zara’s first birthday since they have been a couple.
The Sun were the first to reveal at the start of the year that Zara and Louis had begun dating each other just weeks after she split from long-term partner, reality star, Sam Thompson.
This new image is a rare public show of affection from the couple with Zara and Louis often choosing to keep their romance away from social media.
Louis has never shared an image of the couple on his main social media feed.
But they appear more loved-up than ever thanks to their latest snap.
Commenting underneath the snap, one fan said: “Omgg you’re the sweetest couple. Happy birthday sweetheart.”
As another penned: “The cutest pic I’ve seen in a while!! U look so happy, I love it.”
A third also commented: “Happy birthday Zara!!! And this completely makes my morning! So happy for you guys!!”
It comes as her ex Sam also began to post his new romance to Instagram.
Sam is in the very early days of a romance with influencer Talitha Balinska but he has been quick to flaunt it online.

Zara and Sam split in January 2025 when she chose to end the relationship after five years.
She began dating Louis just weeks later.
Zara and Sam were also plagued by a cheating shock when it was revealed that the BBC Three star had cheated on Sam during the early days of their romance.
She broke down in tears when begging for him back amid the infidelity in an infamous Made in Chelsea scene.

There were only four days left of shooting on “Hamnet” when Chloé Zhao realized she didn’t have an ending. The filmmaker had led the cast through a week filming the pivotal climactic sequence inside the Globe Theatre, where William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) is staging his opus “Hamlet,” but something was missing. The script had Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes (Jessie Buckley), and her brother Bartholomew (Joe Alwyn) witnessing the demise of Hamlet (Noah Jupe), a denouement that should have evoked a sense of release. But even though the moment was meant to tie Shakespeare’s masterpiece to the still-fresh death of Will and Agnes’ 11-year-old son, Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe), neither Zhao nor Buckley could feel the necessary catharsis.
“Jessie and I avoided each other for the rest of the day because we both knew we had no film,” Zhao says. “We both went home feeling completely lost.”
“We were searching for this ending,” Buckley adds. “It was a daunting idea to try and pull together all the threads of the story we’d woven prior to this moment. I felt incredibly lost and a bit untethered.”
Zhao admits that she rarely preplans the endings of her films because she doesn’t tell stories linearly. She imagines the journey of her characters unfurling in a spiral, with the story extending downward into the darkness before rising back up.
“I’ve had to wait on every single film,” she says. “But this time I was going through the ending of a relationship, so I was terrified of losing love. I was holding on to it with dear life.”

(Agata Grzybowska)
The morning after they filmed the scripted ending, Buckley sent Zhao Max Richter’s “This Bitter Earth,” a reimagining of his song “On the Nature of Daylight” with lyrics. The filmmaker played it in the car on her way to the set.
“I could feel the tears and the heart opening, and then I started reaching my hand out towards the window,” Zhao remembers. “I was trying to touch the rain outside of the car. I looked at my hand and I realized that I needed to become one with something bigger than me so I would no longer be afraid of losing my love. Because love doesn’t die, it transforms. When we’re one with everything around us, it’s the illusion of separation that makes us so afraid of impermanence.”
The true culmination of “Hamnet” occurred to Zhao as she reached for the rain. If Agnes reached her hand toward the dying Hamlet, he could then rest and she could let go of her grief over losing Hamnet. And if the audience joined her, the sensation of release would be even greater.
“The thing I didn’t expect, the surprise of it, was the absolute communal surrender,” Buckley says. “The way the fourth wall was broken between the play and the audience, the need to reach out and touch the core of the play. Agnes’ compass has always been touch.”
Although the specifics didn’t come to life until those final days, Zhao always planned the production so the Globe scenes would be done last. Production designer Fiona Crombie re-created the historic open-air theater on the backlot at England’s Elstree Studios using real timber brought in from France. The set version, which took 14 weeks to build, is smaller than the original Globe to create a sense of intimacy.
Plans for the building of the Globe Theatre set in “Hamnet.”
(Agata Grzybowska)
“This is my version,” Crombie says. “Our footprint is a bit smaller overall, but the essential architecture of the tiers and the roofline and the shape and everything is accurate. By virtue of having real beams that are scarred and aged, it feels more realistic. We wanted the whole thing to feel completely authentic. You want to smell these sets and feel these textures off the screen.”
“I told Fiona I wanted it to feel like the inside of a tree,” Zhao says. “So, spiritually, it’s correct for this story. And the play is accurate. We didn’t change any lines.”
Historically, there would not have been a backdrop onstage. But for the thematic purposes of “Hamnet,” a backdrop was essential. “There was a whole conversation about not just the aesthetic but the importance of that motif,” Crombie says. “It’s also a wall that separates Will from Agnes.”
“Hamnet’s” Globe was constructed to have a working backstage so Mescal, Jupe and the players could move in and out of the wings. There were real prop tables and makeup stations, as well as a nod to other Shakespeare plays. “We had a horse from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ that was loaned from the real Globe,” Crombie says. “There were loads of details everywhere that honored theater.”
The actors learned significant portions of “Hamlet.” Mescal led the cast of players in rehearsals before filming. “We would rehearse later in the evenings as an ongoing part of the process,” Mescal says. “Once the camera came in, it was Chloé’s baby, but we rehearsed consistently throughout the production. It was so cool. I have a lot of sympathy for directors. What I loved about it wasn’t necessarily the act of directing. It was more so the part of the process in helping me to act. It felt weird to direct them as Paul, but I could direct them as Will.”

Mescal and the players acted out 30 to 40 minutes of “Hamlet” while filming. The actor describes the feeling of being on the Globe stage as “sacred,” both because of the physical space and because of the emotional quality of the scenes.
“It felt very charged,” he says. “Up until that point we knew we had made something very special, but we were also acutely aware that this is where you had to land the plane. And that came with its own pressure. There’s something very special about playing Shakespeare and hearing Shakespeare’s words spoken in that place. The film is talking about the collision of art and humanity, and there are no greater words to communicate that feeling than the words in ‘Hamlet.’”
Zhao enlisted 300 extras to be the theater’s crowd. Each day, Zhao and Kim Gillingham, a dream coach who worked on the film, led the cast and extras in a daily meditation or dream exercise. It was unlike anything many of the actors had previously experienced.
“Everyone dropped into this very deep place of connection to themselves and to what was happening in front of them on the stage,” Alwyn says. “It was this amazing collective feeling of catharsis and connection to something bigger than ourselves.”
(Evelyn Freja / For The Times)
“The performances from some of the supporting artists are extraordinary,” Mescal adds. “And that was intentional in terms of how Chloé constructed that feeling and by having Kim there.”
After Will notices Agnes in the audience, he goes backstage and finally breaks down, experiencing a long-awaited release of grief. Mescal prepared for the scene by listening to Bon Iver’s “Speyside.” Fittingly, it was the last thing he filmed.
“The play becomes something different because it’s being witnessed by Agnes,” Mescal says. “It comes alive for the audience because of this weird alchemy. Something feels different in the air. That moment felt like such relief, like he could just let go.”
“Hamnet” ends with Agnes reaching for Hamlet. In doing so, she gives herself permission to let her son go. It was a moment that had to be discovered rather than constructed.
“The scene became a holding of collective grief in a communal space where we were allowed to let it out,” Buckley says. “It was like a tsunami. I’ll never forget it.”
In Mescal’s mind, the film’s ending is really its beginning. He imagines the relationship between Will and Agnes will go on, continuing the spiral.
“I have no idea how a relationship survives the death of a child, but I do think there is a miraculous hope and they can see each other again in that moment,” Mescal says. “They’ve abandoned each other in certain moments, but now she understands where he went. And I think they will return to each other.”

The Traitors star, Charlotte Chilton, has been rushed to hospital for brain surgery as fans expressed their concern for the mum-of-one.
Charlotte, 32, who made it to the finale of the second series of the BBC show in 2024, shared a photo of herself from her hospital bed, telling her followers she will need to will need to undergo an operation to manage her trigeminal neuralgia. The chronic pain condition characterised by intense, electric shock-like pain in the face, typically triggered by light touch or routine activities.
Admitting she felt ‘daunted’ ahead of the operation, Charlotte, who is currently undergoing a bitter paternity battle with YouTuber, Conor Maynard, 33, wrote: “As many of you know I have tried raise awareness of the condition trigeminal neuralgia. I have unfortunately found myself back in hospital with a terrible attack and this has resulted in me needing another neuro surgery to control it. Having surgery on your brain is always daunting, however this has long term relief and allows me to get on with my life.”
Saying she was rushed to A&E after suffering a “huge attack” in what was a “hellish week”, Charlotte continued: “After being rushed into A&E with a huge attack, I have been taken care of by the amazing Neuro team at QE hospital and today I have an operation to relieve me of my physical torture.
“For my TN followers keep fighting to find the right team to support you. I’m so grateful for my family and friends who have supported me through this hellish week! Wish me luck and see you on the other side!!”
It’s been a tough time for Charlotte as she continues to fight to find out the paternity of her daughter Penelope – as she insists that social media star, Conor, is the father.
In the summer, the pair took a DNA test, with the results validating the earlier test which showed that Conor was not the dad of baby Penelope.
Following the bombshell, Charlotte released a statement via her representatives. They told the Daily Mail: “For those of you who have followed Charlotte’s journey since her appearance on BBC’s The Traitors, will know she has fought an extraordinary battle for truth and justice with heartfelt conviction. Charlotte will now take time to process, heal and reflect and when she is ready, she will finally share her story in full.”
She then told The Sun she will prove that Conor is the father of her daughter Penelope – despite two paternity tests saying he isn’t.
Claiming the DNA tests were inaccurate, she said: “I have had so much abuse from people wondering why I am saying he is her father. I am saying it because I know it is true. But I’ve also had messages off people who have had DNA tests with strange results like this too. There are so many scenarios.”
However, breaking his silence on the results of the second test on social media, Conor said: “Today I received the results of a second paternity test, which was requested by Charlotte Chilton regarding her baby girl, Penelope. As with the last test, this test has confirmed again that I am not Penelope’s father.
“As Charlotte requested, Penelope’s, Charlotte’s and my DNA were all taken at a Ministry of Justice accredited DNA facility that was selected by Charlotte. The results are therefore conclusive.
“This has been difficult for me and my family, and I’m so grateful for everyone’s support. I’m glad we can now finally draw a line under this.”
Meanwhile, a second name has been thrown into the mix following Conor’s constant denials and two paternity tests confirming he isn’t the father. It has now been revealed that Charlotte’s co-star Jonny Holloway also claimed he slept with the reality star around a similar time.
However, Charlotte has denied sleeping with Jonny. He claimed that he has asked for a DNA test – but she has since changed her mind, according to Jonny, and won’t discuss the paternity with him.
The Mirror has contacted Charlotte’s reps for comment.

Heading out in Manchester, glamorous Molly-Mae joined a group of pals to celebrate the 30th birthday of Erin Jones, her close friend and assistant.
They have since gotten back on track and are in the process of renovating their new family home and preparing to have their first Christmas together since reuniting.
However, things haven’t been smooth sailing when it comes to parenting Bambi, as the couple admit she’s a handful.
The first-time mum, who previouslyconfessed parenting so far hasbeen an “emotional rollercoaster”, said last week that Bambi is like having a “teenager”.
She replied: “She definitely keeps me on my toes,”
“The way Bambi acts it’s like she’s a teenager in a two year old’s body. She knows exactly how to work both me and Tommy.”
The blonde beauty explained how some days are so “amazing” that she “could have 14 more” kids, but that’s not always the case.
“Other days consist of me going to the toilet and pretending I’m going for a really long number two just so I can hide.”

“Saturday Night Live” hosts typically make their mark on the show, either by boosting the sketches they’re in with charm and good timing, or making a lesser kind of mark by awkwardly revealing why they aren’t right for live sketch comedy.
So what are we supposed to make of British actor Josh O’Connor, who hosted “SNL” for the first time and left almost no impression at all?
O’Connor, known for playing Prince Charles in “The Crown” and for performances in “Challengers” and the new Netflix movie, “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” seemed game enough, but throughout most of the show, he had little opportunity to do much more than blend into sketches centered around characters he was not playing.
He played supporting parts including the Tin Man in a revamped “Wizard of Oz” sketch involving the male characters deciding they actually want a “big old thang” instead of their original wishes, a fellow student in a sketch about a 12-year-old college prodigy (Bowen Yang), Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in a Christmas characters piece that was a take on Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” and an awkward brunch attendee.
Only in a few sketches, including a “Dating Game” parody featuring Ashley Padilla as a rowdy 84-year-old contestant, a hospital sketch in which he played a bad intern, and one in which O’Connor and Ben Sherman played sensitive male strippers at a bachelorette party did he have lead roles. And they weren’t particularly memorable characters or portrayals. Only when he kissed fellow cast members at the end of sketches (Yang and Sherman) did things seem to liven up.
In fact, it felt more like a spotlight episode for Yang — who played the Wizard; the fast-talking, high-attitude Doctor Please in the hospital sketch; and the 12-year-old college student — and for musical guest Lily Allen. Allen’s scathing performances of “Sleepwalking” and “Madeline” from her new breakup-with-David Harbour album were high drama. The latter song featured a big surprise: actor Dakota Johnson spoke from behind a scrim as the titular character and then appeared next to Allen when the song ended. Another Allen song, “West End Girl,” was the subject of an entire brunch sketch in which cast members sang about their feelings to the tune of the music. Allen showed up as herself, but filling in as a waitress at their table.
It’s hard to say if the material just misfired for O’Connor or if he’s just an awkward fit for “SNL,” but unfortunately what stood out in the episode had little to do with him.
In addition to the sketches, this “SNL” episode included a Christmas-themed “Brad and His Dad” animated short.
Ready for another President Trump-centered cold open? Sorry, you got one anyway. James Austin Johnson once again aced his impression of Trump with a stream-of-conscious ramble for reporters aboard Air Force One that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt (Ashley Padilla) attributed to exhaustion. “I took an Ambien and an Adderall, let’s see which one wins,” said Trump before inappropriately fixating on Leavitt’s lips and denying that affordability is a problem. “Economy is very strong,” he said, “from the billionaires all the way down to the poor millionaires.” Trump addressed attacks on Venezuelan ships, saying, “We’re doing pirate now, argh,” and promising that attacks would move from the sea to the air, leading to a visual joke of Santa Claus and his reindeer on radar being shot out of the sky.
O’Connor’s monologue focused on two things those unfamiliar with his acting should know about him: that he has a reputation as a “soft boy,” someone who embroiders, scrapbooks and gardens like an “average 65-year-old woman.” The other is that he resembles chef Linguini from the Pixar film “Ratatouille,” and though a rumor that he wanted to play the character in a live-action version was unfounded, he would very much like to play that character. “For what it’s worth,” he said, “I would kill as Linguini.”
Best sketch of the night: You ate how many nuggets this year?
Even though it’s already well-trod meme material (including an almost identical comic strip’s premise), “SNL” was still able to squeeze some juice from Spotify’s Wrapped, a year-in-review feature, which returned for another round earlier in the week. Uber Eats has a year-in-review, too, and you absolutely don’t want your significant other to see what fast food you’ve ordered and whether you’re in the top 1% of nugget eaters. If your Uber Eats age is “52 and Fat,” it may not be knowledge you wish to have. The mock commercial does a great job balancing the shame we feel about the awful foods we eat with the amount of data we could learn about those habits, if only anyone ever wanted to see that.
Also good: These kind male strippers give the best empathy hugs
A bachelorette party at a cozy cabin is interrupted by two hired male strippers, Augie and Remington (Sherman and O’Connor), who ask for consent before entering and are soon removing their cardigans to reveal another layer of cardigan. The men dance to an emo version of “Pony” before revealing that one of them has a Zohran (Mamdani) tattoo on his stomach. They give lap dances, but one of them gets overstimulated and cries. “I was just thinking about the Supreme Court,” he moans. Not the most original sketch idea, but the specific details of the characters and Padilla’s smitten reactions as the bachelorette saved the sketch from overstaying its welcome.
‘Weekend Update’ winner: Superheroes, Santa and your boss all want you to behave
Jane Wickline did a nice job with a surprisingly violent original song about stopping the biggest threat facing the world: not AI, but the grown-up child actors from “Stranger Things.” But it was Marcello Hernández who got big laughs recounting what Christmas is like for his Cuban family. It includes dealing with new boyfriends of family members pretending to be who they aren’t. “You don’t like the food, Kyle, you like having sex with my cousin!” Hernández wandered a bit, straying to talk about “Home Alone” and uncles who give unsolicited sex advice, but the heart of the segment was impressions of his father calling to encourage his son as different characters including Santa Claus, Spider-Man and his boss, Lorne Michaels.

This Morning star gives birth to baby as ITV co-stars rush to congratulate(Image: ITV)
A beloved star on This Morning has revealed the exciting news that she has welcomed her first baby.
TV chef Poppy O’Toole, also known as the Potato Queen, first joined the ITV series a few years back and has made countless appearances to cook up a feast on the show.
This year though, she confirmed she was pregnant with her first baby, just months after getting married to her partner of 15 years Tom Shattock.
Since then, an excited Poppy has been keeping her thousands of online fans updated on her pregnancy journey. And on Saturday (December 13) Poppy revealed she recently welcomed a baby daughter.
Taking to her Instagram, the TV star shared several photos of her posing with her new baby in front of a Christmas tree. She captioned the post: “The baby potato arrived last week and she is doing amazingly. Thanks for all the love and messages.”
As expected, fans and co-stars rushed to the comments section to send their well-wishes. ITV and Lorraine star Dr Amir Khan penned: “Huge congratulations.”
Content cannot be displayed without consent
Gordon Ramsay also wrote: “Congratulations to you both sending lots of love from all the Ramsays.” Fellow chef John Torode gushed: “Congratulations.. so bloody wonderful.”
Meanwhile, one fan declared: “Congratulations!!!!! Wishing you so much love and happiness.” Another followed chimed in: “Congratulations to you both! Wonderful news and lovely little squishy Potato tot cuddles. Have the best Christmas.”
Earlier this year, Poppy revealed she married her partner. However, talking about their special day on social media at the time, she admitted it was an “unconventional” day, as they failed to give at least 29 days’ notice before the ceremony.
Failing to give the required notice of marriage can prevent a wedding from taking place on the intended date. If couples fail to give 29 days notice, the ceremony may need to be rescheduled, and additional fees may be incurred for rebooking.
In the end, the couple took care of all the “official stuff” in Redditch, not forgetting to take a series of snaps outside the registry office. Despite it not being a traditional day, it didn’t dampen Poppy’s spirits, as she took to Instagram to share in the joyous news.
This Morning airs Monday to Friday at 10am on ITV1.
AN iconic film has just returned to Netflix, and fans are realising that its ‘hot blonde’ bombshell hasn’t aged a day.
It’s been over two decades since the legendary comedy first graced screens across the globe, with this ‘hot blonde’ character only being in her 20s at the time of filming.

American film and TV actress Darcy Donavan, is best known for her feature in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), where she shared the screen with Hollywood heavyweights Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd.
Anchorman became considered as a “cultural phenomenon” in the world of comedy, loved for its absurd humour, witty characters and highly-quotable lines – and it’s returned to streaming service Netflix this week.
Following a hotshot television anchorman (Ron Burgundy), viewers are taken along on a journey of life in the newsroom, from breaking stories to feuds, new hires, and jealousy.
Anchorman, which also starred a stunning Christina Applegate, was nominated for countless awards in the year following its debut.
Though Darcy didn’t have a huge role in the movie, being officially listed under the role of ‘hot blonde’ in such a big show made her character all the more iconic.
20 years on, it’s hard not to notice from recent snaps of the hot blonde – who is now in her forties – that she’s barely aged over the decades.
Darcy has maintained her svelte figure over the years, stunning in a bodycon sparkly dress on her Instagram recently.
The same signature blonde hair that also landed her the part of ‘hot blonde’ remains as beautiful as ever, now falling down past her chest.
Fans also got a glimpse of her age-defying beauty in a recent appearance on the Rollin’ Olan podcast with host Jeff Olan.
During their chat, the film and TV star recollected her filming experience on the set of Anchorman.
She told Jeff that the whole movie “was pretty much improv” and praised her famous scene partners for their wit and acting talents.
“Will Ferrell is definitely, you know, a comic genius.
“And Paul Rudd, I mean, he’s such a sweetheart. I really became good friends, too, with the director [Adam McKay].
“He is so talented, but he’s just really down to earth, you know, and, uh, he’s a phenomenal director.
“He understands, you know, how to get the best out of an actor and not feel pressure. And that’s the one thing I just think is phenomenal about him.”

Following the success of the first film, the lead stars returned for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues in 2013, though Darcy did not reprise her role.
The ‘hot blonde’ has however starred in lots of other films and TV shows since, including popular series Modern Family, dystopian sci-fi Westworld, and even CSI.
But she still performs the occasional more anonymous role, such as ‘hot housewife’ in My Name Is Earl.
Darcy’s most recent work is on 2025 movie Hollywood Grit.
Starring alongside others including Max Martini and Tyrese Gibson, the production follows the story of a detective who’s looking for somebody’s daughter who vanished from a Hollywood jazz club.

Just over a decade ago, a baby-faced Hesperia, Calif., native auditioned on “La Banda,” a Spanish-language reality TV series designed to assemble the next great Latin boy band.
To honor his Mexican roots, 16-year-old Joel Deleōn, then known as Joel Pimentel, belted out the Manuel Bonilla classic “Eran Cien Ovejas” before a formidable panel of judges: ex-Menudo member and global pop icon Ricky Martin, as well as the Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, and Italian diva Laura Pausini. In the middle of his audition, Pausini asked for a different song selection — which led Deleōn to sing Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire,” which helped him move forward in the competition.
“It’s crazy to think that it’s already been 10 years,” he recalls, now a bearded 26-year-old with an abundance of tattoos. “I didn’t think I could win ‘La Banda,’ especially at a time where I didn’t speak Spanish fluently. To think that going for the audition changed my life… It’s a constant reminder [to not be] afraid to go after what I want.”
Martin and former “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell, who famously helped propel One Direction to greatness, created “La Banda” to fill the void for a boy band in the Latin market, which was left by Menudo in the 1980s. Eventually, during the show’s finale, dated Dec. 13, 2015, viewers voted for Deleōn to join CNCO with Christopher Vélez, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón and Zabdiel de Jesús.
Each member represented a different part of Latin America, but onstage the boys were in sync with their heartthrob harmonies and tight choreography. Fame quickly followed for CNCO with multiple world tours, a best new artist nomination at the 2017 Latin Grammys, and multi-platinum hits like the alluring “Reggaetón Lento (Bailemos)” and the anthemic “Hey DJ.”

Much like Geri Halliwell in the Spice Girls, Zayn Malik in One Direction, and Camila Cabello in Fifth Harmony, Deleōn shockingly decided to leave the group in 2021 to “start building my own path and career.” That’s when he changed his stage name from Joel Pimentel to Joel Deleōn, as a nod to the surname of his late grandfather, who inspired him to pursue music.
After releasing a few solo singles under CNCO’s label, Deleōn found himself at a creative standstill. In 2023, he took the independent route and released the fittingly titled EP “Ahora Me Escuchan???” (Can You Hear Me Now???) — unveiling a more punchy and playful sound that recalls Joe Jonas’ pop-rock side project, DNCE, but with more Latin detours.
Since then, Deleōn has found his own groove as a Chicano pop-R&B star. This past year, he went on his first solo tour of Latin America — and on Nov. 28 he teased his upcoming debut album with the bilingual banger “Me Alegro Por Ti.” In honor of CNCO’s 10th anniversary Dec. 13, De Los caught up with Deleōn about the group’s legacy, his departure and life after the boy band.
What did you take away from your time with CNCO? I take with me a lot of dedication to the art of music. You have to have a lot of dedication and passion for your music. I feel like that’s a big reason why CNCO became so big: There was so much dedication and so much hours put into the studio, choreography, interviews and things like that. Obviously, I take those awesome memories I lived with the four other guys, and it’s something that motivates me to keep working to get to that level as a solo artist as well.
What kind of impact do you think CNCO had, 10 years later? A huge impact! The band’s legacy is going to live on for a long time. I keep seeing the support from the fans. I don’t feel like CNCO is completely done. Eventually, there will be something that happens between all of us. Obviously, each of us wants to take our time to do our things individually. It’s insane. Sometimes I think to myself, “If I ever become a dad, I’m going to be like, ‘Look, I was in this boy band that got to travel to Asia, Europe, and was listened to in Africa.’”
What do you remember about the time you decided to leave the band? Would you change anything about that? It was obviously difficult. It was a decision that I meditated on. It was never intended to make it seem like I was abandoning them. The guys and I, we’re cool. I don’t keep [as] much contact with them as before, but it’s normal. Each person is doing their own thing.
Look: I probably would have been in CNCO a little longer if it weren’t for certain things, which maybe I’ll leave this as a theory for the readers to fill out, and see what it could be. [Laughs.] It definitely had nothing to do with the guys. If anything, those last couple of years were the nicest years I had with them personally.
I don’t regret it because throughout these last four years as a solo artist, I’ve learned so much — so many things that I wouldn’t have learned being in the band. [These were] years of growth. Obviously, when you’re in a band that’s managed by this huge record label, everyone is taking care of your things. You don’t have anything to worry about, but once you’re out, and you have to do it for yourself, you learn so much. I am grateful for the way everything turned out, to be honest.
Joel Deleon
(Ricardo Rosales)
To further your solo career, how important was it for you to go the independent route? I think being independent for me is the best thing that could’ve happened, without throwing any shade at any record labels. When you come out of a boy band and you’re signed to such a big record label, sometimes [executives] expect you to do a certain thing that they think [will] work out, [and] at the end of the day, they’re the experts. But if this is something that an artist loves and wants do for the rest of their life, it’s also important for the artist to be genuine [and] share what they want to share.
The best part of being an independent artist is the creative freedom. I could use some help in other areas. [Laughs.] It’s been really cool. The producer I’m working with, Palace, he’s amazing. He gets it. He understands me. I think that it’s really important to have a producer that actually understands you and wants to build the vision that you have.
You kicked off a new era last month with your song “Me Alegro Por Ti” — what else can we expect? I would describe it as the most vulnerable era that I’ve had so far. This song [describes] one of the first phases of a relationship, once you’re done with it. Eventually, throughout this conceptual album, you’re going to see every emotion a person goes through from the beginning of a relationship to the end of it and afterwards. This song fits into that “I’m having fun without you” phase, but soon you’ll hear the rest of the story. The music and genre are definitely something that feels 100% real to me. This really does fit with who I am, especially as an artist. I’m excited for what’s to come. Hold tight for 2026. There’s going to be so much music.
You recently wrapped your Latin American Nostalgia tour, which included both your songs and CNCO’s hits. Could you bring it to the U.S.? There’s a big chance, to be honest. I look at my streaming numbers and the U.S. is actually the second country with the biggest audience that I have. So there has to be something done over here.
In the future, would you be open to doing a reunion tour with CNCO? I would love to. There’s some people that didn’t get to come to our shows [back then]. It wouldn’t just be for us to enjoy the good old times, but to give these good old times to the people that have never been a part of it, the people that want to relive those times, or those fans that have a kid now and want to introduce them to the music they grew up listening to. I’m not sure where the guys’ heads are at right now, but I think it would be a good idea.
Now that you’re all solo, each member could have a section of the tour to perform their own songs too. That would be sick! We could create an EP or album without any label involved. We could create music from where we stand and what our hearts are saying, so the fans can connect even more to us. They already connected to us at such an extreme level back then, but to connect to music that’s a lot more vulnerable and real to us, would be something they would go crazy for. It would be great to showcase our solo work as well, so it’s a whole big party of different things.

It’s safe to say Tyler, the Creator caused an “Earfquake” at Hawthorne High School on Friday afternoon.
The graduating class at the South Bay High School gathered in the school’s auditorium for what they thought was a spirit rally. Little did they know rapper Tyler, the Creator was waiting, ready to surprise them with words of inspiration and iPad Pros.
Surrounded by screaming teenagers and a sea of recording phones, the rapper was taken back to when he was a student at the school from 2005 to 2006. He shared memories of doodling on his pants, rap battling in the courtyard and skating down El Segundo Boulevard with dreams of being famous.
“Being from this city, man — it’s kind of like a weird place, because it’s not Inglewood and it’s not Manhattan Beach, it’s just its own little world. I always would tell myself, ‘One day I’m really going to make it out of this place and make something of myself,” said the rapper from the center stage.
The event was hosted by with Apple Music, who had named the 34-year-old rapper as its artist of the year. Prior to Tyler’s appearance, the streamer brought together local vendors like Crenshaw Juice Co. and Happy Ice, a photo booth and a DJ for the seniors to enjoy.
Tyler, the Creator speaking to students at South Bay High School on Friday afternoon.
(Apple Music)
After Tyler finished his speech, senior Kennesha Sylester was one of the first students to get her iPad. She said that she knew someone was coming to surprise the class, but she had heard a rumor that it would be YouTuber Mr. Beast.
“To be honest, him revisiting the school that he attended shows he really cared for the school. Every time I look [at the iPad] I’m going to think about how I got it from Tyler, the Creator,” Sylvester said. “I admire him so much for how he expresses himself and really does whatever he wants.”
In light of Tyler’s hallmark year, he saw it fit to return to the halls where it all began and give back to the community that raised him. He attended both freshman and sophomore year at Hawthorne High School before founding the quirky hip-hop collective Odd Future. The group would be both Tyler’s introduction to the music industry and his ticket to global stardom.

Now nearly 20 years later, he’s one of rap’s biggest names. Within a year, he headlined music festivals including Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Osheaga, as well as his own festival Camp Flog Gnaw. He embarked on his biggest world tour yet for his eighth studio album, “Chromakopia.” While he was on the road, he simultaneously released his latest record, “Don’t Tap the Glass” over the summer, which yielded one of the biggest tracks of his career thus far, the funky earworm “Sugar on My Tongue.” Both of these projects have earned him five Grammy nominations.
He left the senior class with one last piece of advice: “I know it sounds corny sometimes, but let me be the example. You could be whatever you want to be in this life. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Don’t let the version that you are today dictate the version that you plan on being. Rock this s—.”
Then he resumed pointing at members of the crowd, yelling, “You got an iPad,” referring to the forever viral clip of Oprah Winfrey giving out free cars.
Music mogul Simon Cowell admits hearing of One Direction star Liam Payne’s death while filming almost lead to him cancelling his new Netflix series The Next Act
Simon Cowell almost cancelled new Netflix series after he heard about Liam Payne’s ‘horrific’ death(Image: NETFLIX)
But the record label owner was cautious about airing the footage, sending it to the late star’s family and his ex, Cheryl Tweedy, ahead of it being shown on TV. The show sees Simon on the hunt for the next big boyband, following the record-breaking success story of One Direction, but filming was almost cancelled when he found out the heartbreaking news of Liam’s death.
During the six-part series, Simon said of Liam: “He was just so normal and down to earth, he always had a sparkle in his eye. Everyone adored him. You don’t know how you feel about someone until you lose them. I am going to genuinely miss him.”
Speaking at the launch of the Netflix series, Simon opened up on how he handled the footage, which came as a complete shock to him and the crew. He told the Sun: “In the middle, there was that moment with Liam, which was just horrific. That really threw us.
“I was very close to him, and that was hard. We almost stopped filming. I had to go away, clear my head.
“We took a break for about two weeks. Before that it had been almost every day. I sent [parts of episode three] to Liam’s parents and Cheryl to see, for obvious reasons, and I said, ‘Look, I don’t want you to just see it when it airs’.
“And so the production company sent it to them, and they were fine with it. It was respectful, I think.”
The show also sees Cowell team up with Brit Award-winning singer-songwriter Kamille, who helps her former mentor Simon find a new boyband. She commented on Simon’s decision to continue filming the series in a Q&A with The Mirror.
She explained: “Not so much, at the time he took a break from filming because it was so devastating and he needed time to process it. We were all there for each other but it was such a sad time, I think part of you’s still shaken by it. But you know what, Simon’s very strong – and he really didn’t want to let these boys down, I think he carried on for that reason.”
The official synopsis reads: “Music mogul and record executive Simon Cowell has single-handedly created some of the biggest music superstars in the world. In this brand-new Netflix docu-series, cameras follow him everywhere as he sets out to do it again, to try and create the next global boyband sensation.
“This is unlike any show he has made before. From raw open casting calls to the release of their debut single, this is an all-access pass for viewers to catch every moment of Simon’s next chapter. Will he strike gold once again?”
“He was so happy, content and excited about the future. The sweetest, kindest soul. He just went to sleep and didn’t wake up.
“.I can’t imagine how the next days and weeks will unfold but I know we are able to cope – love always helps. I am him and he is me.
“Sleep tight Barney. Dad x… Appreciate your kindness and sensitivity towards the family at this time.”
Tributes have flooded in for the comedian’s son, including from fellow comedy star John Bishop.
He said: “Justin this is so heartbreaking. I remember the kind fun little boy who grew to be a man to be proud of.
“There are no words. All of our love goes out to all of you at this time.”
Actor Steve Evets, who starred alongside Justin in Looking for Eric, wrote: “Justin, my heart goes out to you and all your family and friends of Barney.
“I can never imagine the grief you all must be in right now…
“I know my words are meaningless to you all but please take my best wishes to you all at this terrible loss.”
Comedy legend Justin played Young Kenny in Peter Kay‘s sitcom Phoenix Nights.
The Channel 4 show first aired in 2001 and lasted for two series, with Justin cast as the role of idiotic handyman Kenny.
In one iconic episode, he walks around with his face painted like a tiger for days because of a dodgy face painting job at a family fun day.
The stand-up comedian went on to star in the blockbuster film Looking For Eric alongside football legend Eric Cantona.
From 2010 to 2011 he starred in Harold Brighouse’s play Zack at the Royal Exchange in Manchester.

Film fans like to lament: They don’t make them like they used to, specifically the kind of wry, life-affirming dramedies that director James L. Brooks perfected back in the 1980s and ’90s like “Terms of Endearment,” “Broadcast News” and “As Good as It Gets.” Movies of that tone and character are rare these days, so it’s worth noting when a new one comes along. But with Brooks’ latest, the deeply strange “Ella McCay,” he doesn’t make them like he used to either.
“Ella McCay” is a portrait of a lady on fire, from stress. The quirky, twitchy Ella (Emma Mackey, horrifically bewigged) is the youngest lieutenant governor in her unnamed state, an awkward policy wonk serving under her mentor, Gov. Bill Moore (Albert Brooks). When he’s tapped for the Cabinet, Ella gets the promotion that she craves, sworn in as the youngest female governor of her state, even as her family life descends into chaos. But Ella’s family life has always been chaotic, as we see in flashbacks to her teenage years, wherein our narrator describes how Ella experiences seeing other happy families — as a stab in the heart.
Our narrator is Estelle (Julie Kavner, best known as the voice of Marge Simpson), Ella’s secretary, who explains that she’s biased, claiming “I’m nuts about her.” The year, by the way, is 2008, “when we could still talk to each other.” So Brooks sets this political film in the recent past, giving a wide berth to the third rail that is MAGA. But by shrinking away from political hot buttons, he renders the whole gambit frustratingly vague and meaningless. Ella lives in the “state,” she runs afoul of the “party,” but skirting these details feels too timid. It’s clear that Ella’s politics are liberal, as she champions a bill designed to support parents and kids in early childhood (she tears up over “tooth tutors”). But why play coy with the specifics?
All Ella wants to do is run her policy meetings, but the men in her life keep getting in the way. First there’s her dad (Woody Harrelson), an inveterate philanderer who would like to make amends — in order to please his new girlfriend. Then there’s Ella’s agoraphobic brother (Spike Fearn), over whom she frets (the less said about his bizarrely tacked-on romantic entanglement with an ex-girlfriend played by Ayo Edebiri, the better). Then there’s her husband (Jack Lowden), a seemingly nice if cocky guy who suddenly starts to love the warmth of the spotlight as Ella ascends.
Again and again, Ella runs in circles trying to put out fires with these men without ever getting to her meetings or doing the job she claims she loves so much (and when she finally does get to her meeting, it’s a flop). The entire movie is about how men are always getting in the way of women’s work, but it’s not entirely clear that Brooks knows this is what his film is about, as Ella happily embarks on pointless side quests with her dad and brother and becomes embroiled in the tamest political sex scandal of all time. The real scandal here is why she entertains any of these losers at all.
It never feels like Brooks has a grasp on the material, which careens aimlessly through Ella’s harried day-to-day in a handsomely bland, serviceable style. The thread about Ella’s childhood trauma resulting from her parents’ messy relationship is lost — and was never that convincing to begin with. She has an unconventional family but her aunt Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis), who helped raise her, is a fierce protector and confidant. Their relationship is fun to watch, so why bother with all these men and their inane storylines? The only worthy one in Ella’s life is her designated security detail (Kumail Nanjiani). In another movie, they’d have a romance, some sexual tension or at least a heartfelt and wise conversation. Here, his character is denied any chance of that.
As we move from broken home to political scandal to another broken home, Ella finally realizes that a woman’s place is not in the capital, but rather in the nonprofit sector (not that she has much choice in the matter). What, exactly, is Brooks trying to say? We spend two hours watching men mess things up for Ella and then she just accepts it and moves on? Even if that message weren’t profoundly weird, dramatically it falls flat, despite Estelle trying to tie it up with a positive final message: “The opposite of trauma is hope.” Whatever that means. It’s apt that this closing phrase makes as much sense as the rest of the movie, which is to say, very little.

Actress Kym Marsh has been known for playing a variety of roles over the years. But now, viewers will have to brace themselves for her latest role in the Channel 5 drama The Imposter, as she undertakes her raunchiest role to date.
The 49-year-old mother of three has revealed that some of the sex scenes had to either be cut or toned down in a bid to make it appropriate for TV viewing. The former Coronation Street star, who shot to fame on Pop Stars in 2000 as part of the group Hear’Say, is now playing a “villainous heartbreaker in the gripping TV drama, set in an Australian seaside hotel.
In a recent interview, she said: “Episode two was particularly raunchy. It’s the flashback to London where she first meets her Australian lover. There was quite a lot of stuff that I believe they’ve had to tone down.
She added: “I spoke to the executive working on it and he said, ‘Hey, you did it so convincingly’, and I was like . . . thanks.” The drama takes viewers on a journey of sibling rivalry with “deadly consequences.”
And according to the singer turned actress, she plays the seductive role of Amanda in the four-episode drama. Speaking of her role, she proudly stated that she felt “brave and powerful”, taking on a sexy role as she prepares to celebrate her 50th birthday next June.
She told The Sun on Sunday: “I’ve done a few things on stage, but they are very tame in comparison to this role. The crew and the cast were so respectful, and the director was brilliant. Everyone just made you feel very safe, and obviously, we had an intimacy co-ordinator on set. “
She continued: “But you know what? I went into it, and I was a bit like, ‘I’m 49 years old, I’m not as body confident as I used to be’ because as you get older, you’ve got that kind of thing going on. And I’m on screen, kind of barely dressed. “
She admitted to feeling nervous in certain parts of filming the drama, but due to the relaxed nature of the production staff and her co-stars, she was put at ease. Kym flew to Australia and was there on her own, leaving behind all her comforts for six weeks.
In an interview with the Mirror, she said: “I am a 49-year-old woman, but it was the furthest I’d ever gone before alone. I was all by myself flying off for six weeks without any of my family, but they very quickly put me at ease. It felt like I had known everybody forever.”
She stars alongside Jackie Woodburne, who is well known for playing Susan Kennedy in Neighbours and TV personality Dannii Minogue. Speaking about her co-sta,r Jackie, she added: “Jackie was just incredible. She’s a bit of a royal, really, in terms of the TV world and she’s done a lot of stuff and she’s this very seasoned actress and then to work with her like that, she did take me under her wing because she knew I didn’t know anyone in Australia and we worked together a lot.”
And she went on to say: “A lot of our scenes were together and she was just very supportive and lovely. I went out for dinner with her and I just felt very welcomed. And I think Jackie will be a friend forever, actually.” In one part of the drama, viewers will see Kym film a sex scene where her co-star had his head between her legs as they pretended to act out a sex act.
Kym said that she was able to film the scene because she had built up a level of trust with her co-star. Having a strong support system around her but this may now prove slightly tricky as her son David has expressed that he wants to see her latest drama.
She told the publication that was felt compelled to warn him of the scenes. On the back of her admission, her 30 year old son quickly told her she will have to skip past those scenes and just fill him in.
Kym has been in a number of roles, including Coronation Street and Waterloo Road, as well as stage performances, where she has earned a legion of fans.
