META has launched a dizzying array of new hi-tech glasses – including a posh pair with a built-in screen for seeing apps.
The new specs were unveiled at today’s Meta Connect event by tech boss Mark Zuckerberg, alongside a genius AI that can create any video game that you dream up.

Meta Connect is the company’s annual showcase for new gadgets and apps.
META RAY-BAN DISPLAY
This year, the headline product is the Meta Ray-Ban Display.
This is the company’s most advanced pair of smart specs to go on sale so far. The Sun’s Sean Keach has already tried them – read his Meta Ray-Ban Display hands-on impressions.
Regular Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses come with a built-in camera and microphone, and an AI assistant to answer questions – even about real-world objects that you’re looking at.
But the new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses go one step further and feature a built-in screen.
This display is invisible to the outside world, so no one can see what you’re looking at.
But it can show you apps – like WhatsApp text chains, Instagram Reels, or your camera viewfinder – that float in your field of view.
You can even use it to see live captions over the face of someone speaking to you.
It’s a full-colour display but you can still see what’s going on behind the overlays.
You can even use it to follow directions that float in front of your eyes – but only for walking, not for driving.

They come with a Meta Neural Band, which goes on your wrist and detects tiny movements that let you control what you’re seeing.
So tap your fingers together to select, or roll your thumb to scroll.
The glasses start at $799 and are available from September 13 at limited stores in the US, followed by a UK release in early 2026.
They come in two colours, Black and Sand, with colour-matched Meta Neural Bands to go with them.

META RAY-BAN GEN 2 GLASSES
The regular Meta Ray-Ban glasses have also been upgraded.
There’s now a new Gen 2 version that Meta says serves up twice the battery life of the old model.
And you’ll get 3K Ultra HD video capture too.
They’ll still feature the AI assistant, offer real-time translation, and music playback too.

But now they’ll last eight hours with “typical use”, according to Meta.
And you can charge them up to 50% in 20 minutes, with a charging case that gets you an extra 48 hours of use.
There’s also an upcoming Conversation Focus mode that amplifies the voice of the person that you’re talking to.
So you can hear them better when you’re somewhere with a lot of ambient noise, like a busy restaurant.
There are some new styles too, given that this is effectively a fashion accessory as well as a gadget.
The new glasses go on sale today and start at $379 – with the Gen 1 version priced at $299.
META OAKLEY VANGUARD GLASSES
Meta has also teamed up with Oakley for some proper sports-friendly smart-glasses.
There’s a new product category called Oakley Meta Vanguard, which are meant for high-intensity activities.

So think: outdoor cycling, mountain biking, trail running.
They have an “action-ready camera” built in, and a three-point-fit system plus three replaceable nose pads so you get a secure fit.
After all, you don’t want your posh specs falling off a cliff.
They have Oakley PRIZMTM Lens tech to block out sun, wind, and dust – and feature built-in speakers too, plus a five-microphone array that reduces wind noise.

You’ll get nine hours of battery life from a pair – or six hours with continuous music playback.
And the charging case gets you an extra 36 hours of charge, with 50% refuelling for the glasses in 20 minutes.
You can also pair the glasses with Garmin and Strava to query your performance, and even overlay your exercise metrics on the video you capture.
The glasses start at £499 in the UK and $499 in the US.
META AI TO CREATE YOUR OWN GAMES
Meta also showed off a special tool that makes it extremely easy to create your own video games.
The games live inside Meta’s Horizon metaverse, which is a series of digital worlds that you can share with pals.
And now Meta has developed its AI helper to let you create massive virtual worlds, game textures, audio, skyboxes, and characters all just by typing in some words.
You can even generate custom voices for characters, give them personalities, and they’ll spring to life in seconds.

The AI lets you create game rules and systems, spawn objects, and change what you’ve magicked up on the fly.
Importantly, you don’t need any experience of coding.

Fans don’t have long before it’s released on the platform
Netflix has given fans their first glimpse at a new series penned by the creator of John Wick – and fans don’t have long to wait.
Following on from the success of the Keanu Reeves-fronted franchise, Derek Kolstad has now turned his pen to the first-ever adaptation of the award-winning video game series, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.
The action movie architect served as the head writer on Netflix’s upcoming animated series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch which stars Liev Schreiber (The Perfect Couple) as the voice of black ops agent Sam Fisher. Meanwhile Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman) takes on the role of Zinnia McKenna.
The first Splinter Cell game released in 2002 with the latest dropping in 2013. Eager fans have speculated that the upcoming adaptation is set after the events of 2005’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

Netflix shared the first official trailer for the series yesterday (August 22). The 70-second clip teases plenty of action to come, and gave fans a proper look at Schreiber’s take on the legendary character as he takes on a mission that’s “personal”.
According to the brief synopsis for the upcoming series: “Legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back into the field when a wounded young operative seeks out his help.” It is slated for release on October 14, meaning fans have a few more weeks to wait.
One excited fan penned: “So it’s actually real. Feels like I’ve been waiting for this forever. Now all we need are some remaster/remake/sequel games. Would love to see remakes of the first two or three games.”

“The last Splinter Cell game was Blacklist released in 2013. How time flies… But I’m glad Sam Fisher is back, at least in animation,” said a second franchise fan. Meanwhile a third added: “It’s the adaptation we didn’t know we needed but now we need it.”
One John Wick fan quipped: “From the writer of the John Wick Franchise. Say less,” as another shared their surprise at Schreiber’s Sam.
“Didn’t expect Liev Schreiber to play a decent Sam Fisher!” they started. “Def not Michael Ironside but imo it’s better than what we got in Blacklist. Here’s to hoping this show succeeds so Ubisoft will give us another damn game already!”

An official adaptation of a ‘masterpiece’ FromSoftware game will soon be available to stream and fans have just been given their first glimpse at it.
The first trailer for upcoming anime miniseries, Sekiro: No Defeat, dropped on Crunchyroll’s YouTube channel last night and amassed well over a million views in a matter of hours. It is an adaptation of FromSoft’s revered video game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Set to release sometime in 2026 (an official release date is yet to be announced), the anime will be fully hand-drawn, with streaming service Crunchyroll teasing a “tale of loyalty and blood, set in a fantastical reimagining of Sengoku-era Japan.”
The synopsis reads: “Japan is fractured into many independent nations entangled in ceaseless war. At the center lies Ashina, a land of sacred earth and ancient mystery. Two decades after Sword Saint Isshin Ashina reclaimed the region in a brutal coup, a new threat emerges from within: The Interior Ministry.

“Desperate to protect his homeland, Isshin’s grandson Genichiro turns to forbidden powers. The only hope lies in a kidnapped boy — the Divine Heir — and his silent protector: a loyal shinobi known only as Sekiro. One Punch Man animator Kenichi Kutsuna is at the helm as director, while the voice cast includes Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Kuro/The Divine Heir and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina.
“We are taking on the monumental task of animating the breathtakingly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In doing so, we are pouring every ounce of our artistic vision and passion for beauty into its production,” director Kenichi said.

The upcoming show was announced during Gamescom 2025, and fans flocked to the trailer to offer-up their first thoughts.
“The giant ape episode is gonna be one for the books,” one FromSoft fan predicted, as a second shared: “A million views in a day is a sign for the game makers that a sequel Sekiro 2 is badly wanted.”
Meanwhile a third penned: “There isn’t enough budget in this world to animate the mist noble fight and do it justice,” while a fourth shared: “I just hope that the Mist Noble battle gets a whole episode dedicated to it. Such an insane fight.”

The games for PS4 are DayZ and My Hero One’s Justice 2, and Lies of P will be free for those who have a PS4 or PS5.
Lies of P is an action role-playing game, which reimagines The Adventures of Pinocchio – an 1883 children’s fantasy novel by Italian author Carlo Collodi.
The game follows the life of a puppet in a fictional city plagued by an epidemic and a puppet uprising.
My Hero One’s Justice 2 is a fast-paced 3D arena fighter based on the hit anime My Hero Academia, featuring intense battles where gamers control their heroes and villains with special moves.
DayZ is a survival game where up to 60 players fight to survive in a zombie-infested wasteland.

First off, there’s a more involved plot than previous follow-ups like DOOM (2016) and 2020’s DOOM: Eternal.
You play the heavy-footed Doom Slayer called upon by the Night Sentinels of Argent D’Nur and the mysterious Maykrs in their battle against the dark forces of Hell. Your job? To save humanity.
The Maykrs have a strange hold over the Slayer who gradually starts to think, and fight, on his own terms.
Previous follow-ups to this mega franchise were decent nods to the original but they weren’t truly great games. They lacked what makes a DOOM game utterly brilliant – an intense, mind-blowing run-and-gun experience which takes your breath away. Literally.
The Dark Ages, however, achieves this in bundles.

Because you become so engrossed in dispatching the multitude of enemies spawning all around you that you forget to breathe.
I lost count of the times where I finished a chapter (there are 22 to smash through), let out an exhausting breath… and noticed that I was two feet away from my gaming chair.

Each chapter is gorgeous in its detail and impressive in scope. The map is easy to read and offers a clear pathway to cute collectables, gold chests and secret areas you won’t want to miss in your 20+ hours of the game.

Even the soundtrack is gloriously DOOM-esque. A head-banging barrage of heavy metal which delights the senses when blasted through decent headsets – I couldn’t help but ramp up my Turtle Beach Stealth 700s to complete the experience.
It all makes for an epic romp in Hell – you won’t just dip your toes in the Lake of Fire, you’ll want to go skinny-dipping and plunge in head-first.
