Female goalkeepers development – from being trolled to loved

McCaldon works with Republic of Ireland number one Brosnan at Everton.

From his experience in the women’s game, McCaldon believes a host of factors have come together to develop the modern goalkeeper.

Only in recent years have goalkeeping coaches worked with female players on a full-time basis.

Former England international Karen Bardsley trained alongside men in college and felt it was beneficial to her, but the growing availability of top-class coaching designated for female goalkeepers has been a game-changer.

“The profile of the women’s game is also getting bigger, so there’s more of a player pool,” McCaldon told BBC Sport.

“There’s more resources for female goalkeepers in regards to strength and conditioning exercises, sports science and nutritional research.

“If you package all of it and other holistic stuff like yoga or meditation, you are only going to get better.

“It’s a natural thing that’s happened because of the investment in the women’s game. It wasn’t there when I first started.”

Skinner, before he moved to Manchester United, recruited Hampton for Birmingham City’s academy and would later hand her a first-team debut in 2017.

He went on to work with Earps at United, before American Tullis-Joyce emerged with an impressive first season as the club’s number one.

According to Skinner, a period of “progressive professionalism” has influenced the development of female goalkeepers.

“The athleticism of female goalkeeping has got a lot greater and the development of sport science has improved that,” said Skinner.

“Phallon [Tullis-Joyce] is unique because of her athletic prowess. She has the ability to move around the goal really quickly.

“The other aspects of goalkeepers are developing – tactical knowledge, building structural knowledge and being able to adapt.

“Everyone prides themselves on short passes as a goalkeeper but – and you can see the way Hampton does this – the distribution is now really key.”

Gogglebox legends Dave and Shirley defended after being trolled with cruel comments

Gogglebox stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths have been married for 49 years and have been a part of the Channel 4 show since 2015 – but they were cruelly trolled online

Gogglebox viewers have come together to defend cherished stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths after nasty internet bullies took aim at them online.

The Welsh duo initially appeared on the Channel 4 programme back in 2015 – and it wasn’t long before they captured viewers’ hearts.

Throughout the years, Dave and Shirley – who have been wed for 49 years and are mum and dad to two youngsters – have left audiences in hysterics with their side-splitting quips and observations about the newest television offerings.

Beyond the programme, Dave and Shirley consistently update their supporters via their Instagram account – which boasts a remarkable 208k followers.

On Friday (September 19) the couple posted on the social media site and revealed a sweet snapshot of themselves whilst on their overseas getaway, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Dave and Shirley displayed their affection in the photograph as they grinned towards the lens. They wrote alongside the image “Happy #gogglebox Friday everyone #fresheveryfriday don’t forget tonight #channel4 9pm drinks and snacks out it’s gogglebox time.”

Nevertheless, whilst numerous Dave and Shirley admirers were thrilled by their post, the duo faced a barrage of vicious remarks from online tormentors.

Racing to the couple’s defence, one supporter penned: “These are funny people on Gogglebox but why do people have to make comments about her face we are all getting older and you can’t do much if you’re prone to wrinkles give her a break.”

The backing wasn’t missed by Dave and Shirley who ‘liked’ the message. Another devotee also commented: “People can be so mean.”

To fans’ absolute joy, Dave and Shirley have made their comeback for the fresh Gogglebox series – which kicked off earlier this year. Nevertheless, things are looking rather different, as it was confirmed in July that cherished stars Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle wouldn’t be making a return.

The pair etched their names into Gogglebox folklore as the inaugural Scottish duo to join the programme back in February 2022.

Breaking the news of their exit from the Channel 4 programme, Roisin turned to TikTok to deliver the disappointing news, penning: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26.”

Gogglebox continues every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.

I’m trolled for my decision to never wear a bra but don’t get why people care – Jennifer Aniston did it so why can’t I?

A WOMAN who “never” wears a bra has hit back at those criticising her for the choice.

Lauren has never made a secret of her dislike of the underwear, but her openness has seen her hit with criticism online.

However, in a video on her TikTok page, she responded to the backlash, and said she doesn’t understand why people care.

“I don’t know why so many of you have got such a problem with the fact that I don’t wear a bra,” she said.

“I don’t have enough chest, I don’t think, to warrant wearing a bra every single day.”

Lauren added that if she “absolutely has to”, she’ll put on a bra, but will always go for an unpadded, unwired ‘bralette’ type option.

But even wearing one of them makes her feel “anxious and antsy”, and makes her “skin itch”.

And considering Jennifer Aniston made it “trendy not to wear a bra” in the 90s, Lauren doesn’t get why she can’t get away with it in 2025.

“It doesn’t affect your day, whether I wear a bra or not… why do you care?” she continued.

“If somebody else walking down the street didn’t wear a bra, I’d be like, ‘oh, she’s not wearing a bra’ and continue with my day.

“I don’t care who wears a bra or who doesn’t. I don’t care what other women decide to do with their bodies.

“That is up to them. It is none of my business!

‘Finally’ big busted girls praise Primark’s new saucy matching £8 underwear sets and they now go up to size 44H

“If I don’t wear a bra because I don’t want to, that is none of your business. Okay?”

“I don’t care what other women decide to wear or not wear, if your comfortable and happy and living your best life then you do you boo,” Lauren captioned her video.

People were quick to comment on the video, with one admitting: “If I could get away without wearing one, I would.

“In the house I never do, or as soon as I’m home it’s off, but when I’m out I have to.

“They’re so uncomfortable and make me feel restricted. But no-one wants to see this swinging about in public.”

“The fact people care or have an opinion on other people wearing a bar is WILD to me,” another added.

Top bra tips

Fabulous’ Deputy Fashion Editor, Abby McHale has shared her tips for keeping your bras looking their best.

1. Don’t wash your bras in the washing machine on their own, this is how your wiring will get damaged. Instead either wash in a pillowcase or take them in the shower with you and wash as you would your body.

2. Always start on the loosest hooks for your back, that way as the bra is worn more and the elastic stretches you can tighten it up with the tighter hooks.

3. If you wear your bra two to three times a week then it should last between six months to a year before you need to replace it.

4. You should always be able to feel your bra throughout the day, if you don’t it means it’s not doing its job properly.

5. It’s actually the band across the back that keeps your boobs upright and not the cups itself.

“You do you babe!”

“It’s no business of anyone else, you do what is comfortable for you, and sod the haters!” a third insisted.

“You look absolutely fabulous without one and I think you should wear whatever you like,” someone else agreed.

“Just be free and enjoy,” another urged.
