Uefa give green light to Barcelona and AC Milan playing games abroad but insist Premier League matches are going nowhere

UEFA chiefs want to block clubs from playing domestic games abroad.

But they are powerless to prevent La Liga and Serie A chiefs heading out of Europe this season.

In a measure that could stymy any long-term Prem plans to play matches out of the UK, Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin confirmed his deep personal opposition to the concept.

That is despite giving the green light for Barcelona to play Girona in Miami in December and Milan to face Como in Perth in February.

Uefa explained its ruling executive committee had “reluctantly taken the decision to approve, on an exceptional basis” the requests from Spain and Italy, citing a lack of rules to prevent the games being switched.

But Euro chiefs pledged to work with Fifa to “uphold the integrity of domestic competitions and the close bond between clubs, their supporters and local communities”.

Ceferin said: “League matches should be played on home soil.

“While it is regrettable to have to let these two games go ahead, this decision is exceptional and shall not be seen as setting a precedent.

“Our commitment is clear – to protect the integrity of national leagues and ensure that football remains anchored in its home environment.”

Prem chief Richard Masters has emphasised his total opposition to the prospect of English games being played overseas.

However, that policy could change if 14 of the 20 top flight clubs voted to explore the option.

Fan group Football Supporters Europe said: “We regret the decision to allow the requests but all 55 national associations have committed not to make further requests for domestic matches abroad without first consulting UEFA.

“The onus is now on FIFA to plug this regulatory gap. We welcome UEFA’s commitment to work with FIFA to ensure that future rules uphold the integrity of domestic competitions.”

Porro produced the assist for Mohammed Kudus‘ winner and he was also able to have a bit of fun in the second half.

As the full-back prepared to take a corner in front of the Leeds fans a vape was thrown at him.

The vape hit Porro and he responded by picking it up and pretending to smoke it.

And the Spaniard wasn’t done having his fun with the moment.

He wasted no time in uploading an Instagram post from the game, including an image of him holding up the vape for referee Tom Bramall.

He captioned the post: “Back on track with the boys… Didn’t feel like vaping today, fancied the three points instead.”

The cheeky jab went down well with fans, who flocked to his comments to praise him for his conduct on and off the pitch.

One commenter said: “Guys a comedian hahahaha unreal”

And another fan added: “Brilliant Pedro!!! Great performance too.”

The incident amused the Spurs faithful, but another moment in the second half had them tearing their hair out.

The best dressed football supporters revealed – where did your team rank in the style list?

IT will come as no surprise to their stylish famous fans, but Chelsea supporters are the best dressed in the Premier League.

The club’s followers are most likely to wear a smart suit for a night out, a survey has revealed.

Illustration of a bar chart showing the percentage of Premier League fans from different clubs who said they wear a suit on a night out, with Chelsea fans being the highest at 16% and Wolves fans the lowest at 1%.

Celebrity fans including Gordon Ramsay, Jeremy Clarkson, David Baddiel, Madness singer Suggs and actor Phil Daniels are always well turned out for a trip to the club’s Stamford Bridge home — and regular fans have followed suit.

But it’s not really a surprise, as back in the Seventies Chelsea’s players, including Alan Hudson and Peter Osgood, were known as the kings of the King’s Road for their fashionable sense of style.

And the club’s 21st-century fans have maintained the tradition, according to research by betting site freebet.com, with 16 per cent getting suited and booted for a big night.

While fans of Newcastle, Burnley and Wolves were in the relegation zone with just one per cent being bothered to look smart.

The table shows there’s a clear North/South divide when it comes to off-the-pitch style.

The top seven spots are filled by teams from London and the south, with Man City and Leeds sharing eighth place with Brentford and West Ham with five per cent.

Spokesman Tim Agnew said: “Our research shows Chelsea fans are the best dressed fans in the Premier League.

“They already had a reputation for wearing Gucci and Prada and our research confirms Chelsea fans like to look sharp.”

I was in a Premier League ‘Bomb Squad’ like Sterling but it wasn’t horrible – I even used the chance to do some coaching

ISAAC HAYDEN feels sympathy for Chelsea ‘bomb squad’ members Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi.

The ex-Newcastle midfielder, now at QPR, spent the first five months of last season in limbo after failing to secure a summer move.

Sterling shared a photo of himself training alone late in the evening, while boss Enzo Maresca admitted he has not even spoken to the winger this season.

Hayden, 30, was not in Eddie Howe’s plans but his circumstances were slightly different.

He told SunSport: “I have sympathy because footballers want to play — but everyone’s got different reasons as to why they find themselves in a so-called ‘bomb squad’.

“It happened to me because I couldn’t find a solution during that summer window which fitted in with what Newcastle also wanted.

“But I had constant contact with Eddie and was given nothing but support.”

Hayden made 187 appearances for Newcastle, won the Championship title in 2017 and had five seasons playing in the Premier League.

But a knee injury in December 2021 sidelined him for 5½ months and Howe later told him he was surplus to requirements.

Hayden said: “By the time I’d come back, they had signed Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton was playing as a No 8 — so there was no space.

RYDER CUP 2025 BETTING TIPS, FREE BETS AND LATEST ODDS

“And the team had been transformed from one fighting relegation to having top-six form.

“Eddie was honest and said he had five players in front of me. You think to yourself, ‘I know where I stand’. I’d rather  that than the manager not talking to me.

“You hear people talk about bomb squads where they isolate you, and that’s horrible — but Eddie and Newcastle didn’t do that.

“We had the conversation as to why he couldn’t name me in the 25-man squad.

“And it’s not as simple as, ‘Why not let him train with the first team?’. If you’re doing an 11 v 11 game and everyone’s fit, you’re not going to be able to train with the group because there are too many players.

So Eddie’s solution for me to train with the Under-23s was better. It meant I could train normally every day — and not by myself.”

Hayden actually embraced that period and even did some coaching.

He said: “The bottom line is you’re getting paid good money by the club as a professional footballer. So you give 100 per cent to them in whatever role you’re in.”

After spending the second half of last season on loan with Portsmouth, Hayden joined QPR permanently in the summer.

And now he is hoping to play for Jamaica at next summer’s World Cup.

He said: “One of the huge blessings to come out of that period was I was able to go to Jamaica for a few days to sort my  passport out so I could play for them.

“Had I been playing first-team football every week I’d have not been able to.

“Now I have a chance of making the World Cup. It goes to show you can make everything work out in the end.”

‘He should be at home planning’ – Man Utd fans want club legend, 44, to replace Amorim after Prime Video punditry debut

MANCHESTER UNITED fans are calling for a club legend to replace struggling manager Ruben Amorim at the helm.

This comes after the five-time Premier League champion made his punditry debut at Amazon Prime during the Champions League‘s opening week.

That is none other than United hero Michael Carrick, who was joined by fellow club icons Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney, with whom he won the Champions League in 2008.

And Man Utd fans were left in awe with the ex-England international’s knowledge and insight while discussing tactics at the studio ahead of his other former club Tottenham‘s clash with Villarreal.

So much so that a number of the Red Devils’ faithful took to social media calling for minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to bring the former Middlesbrough manager to the Old Trafford hotseat.

One fan tweeted: “I want Carrick!”

Another commented: “Would give Carrick a run.”

A third wrote: “Give Carrick at a run at it. If he’s good give him a permanent.”

This fan said: “Why is Carrick doing punditry? He should be at home planning the filthy 4-2-3-1 he’s gonna cook up for us in a few weeks.”

That one posted: “Carrick such an intelligent and good pundit.”

And another fan stated: “Michael Carrick doing punditry for Amazon, bring him to the club.”

This comes amid United‘s worst ever Premier League start which has seen Amorim’s men lose two of their first four matches, of which they barely won one.

David Beckham says he’s ‘fed up’ as he makes rare public comments about Man Utd problems

This follows the Manchester giants’ worst ever Prem finish last season, which saw them sink to 15th place under the Portuguese tactician.

But club bosses are continuing to back the 40-year-old as it is still early in the season.

Nevertheless, Man Utd would have to pay the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss a huge severance fee if they sack him before November 1.

Amorim would be in line to pocket a whopping £12million if he is axed before the first anniversary of him taking the job.

The United head coach’s coaching staff would also be in line for a pay-off if Ratcliffe decided to pull the plug.

Champions League LIVE SCORES: Action on NOW as Tottenham host Villarreal after Arsenal score late win over Athletic

From Martin Lipton at Tottenham

Still feels odd to see the list of Spurs executives on page 5 of the match programme and not reading “Daniel Levy”.

He hasn’t been completely air-brushed. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham’s notes start by him paying “tribute” to the ousted man.

Venkatesham adds: “The club has come a long way over the last 25 years and that is down to Daniel’s vision, passion and commitment.

“He has played a huge part in the transformation of the club and his contribution to where Tottenham Hotspur is today is quite immense.”

Athletic Bilbao 0-2 Arsenal

90+2. Into stoppage time now, six minutes added on.

The Gunners have managed this match brilliantly, controlling the tempo and closing out the game with composure.

That crucial second goal from Trossard looks to have sealed all three points for the travelling side.

Athletic Bilbao 0-2 Arsenal

88. Again, it’s the Arsenal substitutes linking up again as it’s Trossard who makes it two goals to the good!

Another driving run from Martinelli, he uses his pace to breeze past the tiring Bilbao fullback and lifts his head to pick a pass.

He finds Trossard, who swivels smartly before firing a shot that takes a deflection off Vivian and nestles into the back of the net.

From Martin Lipton at Tottenham

Hope is in the air in N17.

For the majority of the fans, this will be the first game they’ve attended since the forced exit of Daniel Levy.

Many of them have chanted against the former chairman for a long time. Now he is part of Tottenham history.

His legacy, though, is here. A giant concrete, glass and plastic monument to commercial ambition. And, maybe, now, football ambition too.

Thomas Frank and his players will not be immune to the change in mood, either. Any grumblings, for now, will be directed at them, not the board.

Getting off the Champions League mark at the expense of the side that finished fifth in Spain last term would be a good way to kick off the future.

Goal Arsenal! – Leandro Trossard

Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Arsenal

82. Bilbao struggling to get back into this game now.

Arsenal are seemingly happy to soak up this pressure from Bilbao, and they’re not creating much from their attacking threats.

Their earlier sub Unai Gomez has had to come off with an injury, he’s replaced by Nico Serrano.

Arsenal play the ball into Trossard, he wins a corner for the Gunners, it’s just their second corner of the evening.

Fans seeing LESS football this season with ball in play 133 seconds fewer per game on average thanks to new trend

THE return of the long throw has had an impact on how much football Prem fans have seen this season.

Brentford’s stoppage time leveller against Chelsea after the Blues could not cope with a ball hurled into their box came in the week that Thomas Tuchel signposted his willingness to go direct with England.

2

There have been 130 long throw-ins so far in the Premier League so far this seasonCredit: Getty

And the statistics show that the Bees are not the exponents of old-fashioned Pulis-ball.

In the 40 Prem games so far this season, there have been 130 long throws, at an average of 3.3 per match.

That compares to last season’s average, over the 380 games, of 1.5 per match – a doubling of the frequency.

And senior figures believe the return of the long throw has been a factor in a significant shortage of actual playing time.

Figures provided by Stats Perform show that across the 40 top flight games the ball has only been in play for an average of 54 minutes and 21 seconds, down 133 seconds from last season’s average.

The analysis by Prem insiders suggests that one major reason is that the extra number of long throws has seen more teams sending their centre-backs up into the opposition box.

A similar amount of positioning, by both attacking and defending sides, at corner kicks, has also been noticed, with many sides now having specialist set-piece coaching teams.

And with goalkeepers unable to hold onto the ball for more than eight seconds under the new Laws, also taking longer at goal kicks when the ball goes out of play, fans are getting less value for their ticket prices.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS

One expert explained: “What we’re seeing makes it clear that the amount of long throws in particular is making a difference.

“It will be interesting to see if it continues for the rest of the season or is just a passing fad.”

Amazing Premier League XI worth £360MILLION in line for debuts this weekend including Isak, Garnacho and Sancho

CLUB football is back for the Premier League this weekend after the international break.

After the last round of fixtures, a chaotic transfer deadline day followed as clubs splashed out £375million on new talent to take the overall spending for the window to over £3BILLION.

And with that wave of new arrivals, including emergency loans, the conclusions of blockbuster sagas and shrewd deals, there will be several new faces for fans to watch.

SunSport has taken a look at stars who could make their debuts this weekend, including two club-record signings.

Kicking off the team in goal is new Manchester City star Gianluigi Donnarumma, who arrived on deadline day from Paris Saint-Germain for £26million.

New £18m Manchester United star Senne Lammens could have been selected just as easily, but they can let their goalkeeping do the talking during the Manchester Derby on Sunday.

Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie – signed on loan from Bayer Leverkusen with a £45m option to buy – put in a great display for Ecuador against Argentina and will partner £13m Bournemouth signing Veljko Milosavljevic and West Ham loanee Igor Julio in defence.

There are three more loanees to consider going forward: Tottenham’s Randal Kolo Muani, Nottingham Forest‘s Oleksandr Zinchenko and Aston Villa‘s Jadon Sancho, who all arrived in the twilight hours of the summer window.

Harvey Elliott followed Sancho to the struggling Villans from Liverpool on an initial loan with a £35m obligation to buy next summer.

The front three is where the majority of the star power and cost come into play.

BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK

Alejandro Garnacho, a £40m sale from Man Utd to Chelsea, was not a deadline day switch but was only announced after the Blues’ most recent game at Stamford Bridge – meaning he will be in line for his debut this weekend.

Newcastle star Nick Woltemade is the club’s record signing at £69m.

Liverpool sign Isak for £130m

The 23-year-old German looked impressive during the Under-21 Euros this summer, while he scored 17 for Stuttgart last season.

But he – alongside fellow new Toon ace Yoane Wissa – will have big boots to fill following Alexander Isak‘s record-breaking £130m departure to Liverpool.

Isak’s saga dragged on all summer and was on and off and then on and off again, before possibly the move of the summer was finally put to bed on deadline day.

Elsewhere, there are the likes of Kevin, Fulham‘s own £35m record-breaking arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk, Jaydee Canvot at Crystal Palace and Brian Brobbey at Sunderland who could also make first appearances for their new clubs at the weekend.

What does Daniel Levy leaving mean for Tottenham’s ownership?

TOTTENHAM have announced that Daniel Levy has stepped down from his role as Executive Chairman after nearly 25 years at the helm.

The huge announcement on Thursday evening brings to an end a quarter of a century of his leadership at the club.

Levy oversaw regular European qualification and two trophies during his era – the 2008 League Cup and last season’s Europa League triumph.

He also played a key role in Tottenham’s moves into their new training ground and their new stadium.

But fans want to know what that means for the club.

What does Daniel Levy leaving mean for Tottenham’s ownership?

There will be no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the club, Tottenham have announced.

Daniel Levy said: “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level.

“More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”

Ex-Premier League star demands justice after losing millions in investment scandal that drove him to alcohol and drugs

FORMER Prem stars who lost tens of millions in failed investments are demanding justice.

TV pundit Danny Murphy, 48, said he was a victim of “financial abuse” — turning to booze, drugs and gambling after losing about £5million.

He was among up to 200 players who invested with Kingsbridge Asset Management in the 1990s and 2000s.

It attracted up to £417million before failed ventures led to loss of homes and bankruptcy.

Investors were deemed to be “victims of crime” in a police investigation but are still being chased for millions in tax.

Murphy is one of 11 stars, including ex-Arsenal ace Michael Thomas, calling for more protection from tax charges.

David McKee and Kevin McMenamin, who ran Kingsbridge, denied wrongdoing on BBC’s Panorama last night.

Murphy said he feels “shame” over his involvement.

“It’s the shame, embarrassment and guilt of getting yourself in a position that you think you’re better than,” he said.

“I’ve lost four – maybe five – million, roughly.

“The financial abuse I’ve suffered has caused me monumental problems in my life.”

He added: “The financial abuse in football and the dark side of football, is something that has gone under the radar for too long.”

Man Utd fans convinced Jose Mourinho could replace Ruben Amorim as interview from last season goes viral

MANCHESTER United fans and neutrals alike have revisited a video of Jose Mourinho from last year as evidence that he could be on his way back to Old Trafford.

The tongue-in-cheek comments about a return on social media come off the back of the Red Devils’ embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to League Two outfit Grimsby on Wednesday.

The iconic manager made comments last October hinting that he would be open to a return to a bottom-half Premier League side, after his Fenerbahce side secured a draw in the Europa League AGAINST Man Utd.

He told the press: “The best thing I have to do is – when I leave Fenerbahce – I go to a club that doesn’t play Uefa competitions.

“So if any club in England, from the bottom of the table, needs coach in two years – I am ready to go.

Fans across the English game this window have jumped on the bandwagon, with Leeds, West Ham, Wolves and Utd fans all linking themselves to the manager through the video on social media.

One United fan succinctly commented on the post: “So Mourinho is going back to Man Utd, innit?”

Fans are split on the Portuguese, who already spent two years at the helm at Old Trafford between 2016-18, but at least some of the Red Devils faithful would be open to the move.

Speaking on the players, one X user commented: “None of them can manage the pressure and the culture of winning. We just need Jose Mourinho back.”

Fans of other clubs have also been circling around the old clip as it circulates on X.

MANCHESTER UNITED are at rock bottom after the biggest cup upset saw the club crash out of the Carabao Cup second-round to League Two Grimsby Town on penalties.

Ruben Amorim’s United lost to a four-tier side for the first time ever.

When is Champions League draw? Start time, FREE stream and pots as Arsenal, Liverpool & Chelsea await league phase fate

THE best teams in Europe are set to go head-to-head once again as the Champions League returns for another thrilling season.

PSG are the current kings of the continent after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the Munich final last term.

The French giants are among the favourites for the trophy once again, as are Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Six Premier League teams have earned the right to mix it with the big boys in the Champions League this season.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Europa League winners Tottenham will all be in the draw for the league phase.

The Gunners went the furthest of the English sides competing in Europe’s elite club competition last term.

Mikel Arteta‘s men reached the semi-finals, losing 3-1 on aggregate to eventual winners PSG.

English sides will be looking to stop the rot after failing to make an appearance in the Champions League final in back-to-back seasons.

First up is the league phase, and SunSport brings you the all-important details ahead of the draw.

When is the Champions League draw?

  • The draw for the league phase of the 2025/26 Champions League will take place on Thursday, August 28.
  • The show will begin at 5pm BST.
  • Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum will stage the draw.

How to watch the Champions League draw FREE

  • The Champions League draw will be broadcast live on Uefa.com.
  • TNT Sports 1 will also air the draw on regular TV.
  • The broadcaster will also provide a FREE live stream via the TNT Sports YouTube channel.
  • Alternatively, you can discover all the confirmed ties by following SunSport’s live blog of the draw.

How does the Champions League league phase draw work?

Like last year, the league phase has 36 teams from across Europe competing, with each side handed eight games.

The 36 clubs are split into four pots based on their Uefa coefficient, with the opponents generated by automated software.

Starting with Pot 1, one physical ball will be drawn before the automated software randomly draws two opponents from each pot, one home and one away.

Teams cannot face more than two opponents from the same country and are not permitted to face other sides from the same association as theirs.

The top eight teams in the final table will automatically go through to the last 16.

They will then be joined by the eight play-off winners of ties between the sides who were placed ninth to 24th in the table.

Champions League draw pots

Pot 1: PSG, Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona

Pot 2: Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Benfica, Atalanta, Villarreal, Juventus, Eintracht Frankfurt, Club Brugge

Pot 3: Tottenham, PSV, Ajax, Napoli, Sporting, Olympiacos, Slavia Prague, Bodo/Glimt, Marseille

Pot 4: Copenhagen, Monaco, Galatasaray, Union Saint-Gilloise, Qarabag, Athletic Club, Newcastle, Pafos, Kairat.

Transfer targets ahead of Gameweek 3: featuring Harvey Barnes, Chris Wood and others

We’ve assembled some tempting transfer targets separate from the too-obvious-to-list options for your consideration.

Harvey Barnes (£4m)

Anthony Gordon (£4.5m) would have been a viable option this week had he not seen red against Liverpool on Monday night.

But Dream Team managers can follow the same logic with Newcastle’s No11.

The Magpies are due to face Leeds this Saturday with the Whites having been hammered by Arsenal in Gameweek 2.

Daniel Farke’s side were also humiliated by Sheffield Wednesday’s youngsters in the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle may have had their hearts broken by Arne Slot’s troops last time out but they showed they pack a punch even when a man down to the champions.

Barnes is a true horses-for-courses selection as he boasts a formidable record against Leeds of five goals in six Premier League appearances.

The 27-year-old should be guaranteed playing time while Gordon serves his suspension with Newcastle’s next home game also a favourable match-up in the form of Wolves.

Dream Team bosses could do a lot worse than targeting West Ham’s weaknesses at present.

The Hammers lost 3-0 to Sunderland on the opening weekend and got thrashed 5-1 by Chelsea in Gameweek 2, not to mention a Carabao Cup capitulation at Wolves.

Nottingham Forest will feel confident of a positive result against Graham Potter’s mob this Sunday and their big target man might be first in line to benefit.

Alternatively, four of their midfielders are already into double figures for points: Morgan Gibbs-White (£4.7m), Callum Hudson-Odoi (£3.7m), Dan Ndoye (£3.3m) and Elliot Anderson (£3.7m).

September brings a tricky trip to Arsenal for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men but that’s more than countered by favourable fixtures against Burnley and Sunderland.

Forest will also commence their Europa League campaign after the international break.

Dream Team bosses should ensure they have plenty of players active in Europe once the midweek fixtures start coming thick and fast.

Both Brennan Johnson (£4.7m) and Richarlison (£3.3m) are among the most popular recruits ahead of Gameweek 3 at this stage.

And that’s perfectly understandable.

But we’re choosing to shine a light on Tottenham’s defence after two clean sheets from as many outings.

Cristian Romero (£3.6m), Micky van de Ven (£3.8m) and Djed Spence (£3.8m) are all more affordable but it feels like Porro is on the brink of a mega haul.

The Spaniard continues to take up advanced positions and, in the absence of James Maddison (£4.5m), he’s on set-pieces.

It’s worth remembering that Porro racked up a whopping 51 bonus points last season.

Spurs host Bournemouth this weekend but it’s their trip to West Ham in Gameweek 4 that looks most inviting.

Matheus Cunha (£5m)

A pure one-week punt to finish.

Manchester United are at home to Burnley on Saturday and their new No10 will be licking his lips at the prospect.

Only two players have registered more shots than Cunha across the first two league games and the Brazilian forward is the outright leader for shots on target.

It feels as if his first goal in red is just around the corner and what better platform than Old Trafford against a newly-promoted team?

Many gaffers will feel they can’t accommodate a short-term move such as this (a Manchester derby awaits in Gameweek 4) especially with the European competitions looming large but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Cunha bagged a big double-digit haul against the Clarets.

Tottenham set to seal Eberechi Eze transfer after £60m offer over weekend but Crystal Palace will keep playing him

EBERECHI EZE’S transfer from Crystal Palace is NOT expected to happen before the Eagles’ Conference League tie on Thursday.

Tottenham are pushing to land the England attacker and there were doubts over whether he would play in yesterday’s goalless draw at Chelsea.

But boss Oliver Glasner never doubted Eze, who had a stunning free-kick ruled out at Stamford Bridge, would be available despite uncertainty over his future.

Glasner said: “He was picked because he’s a Crystal Palace player, and he’s a very good

“He trained the whole week, so there was no reason not to pick him.

“He will come to the Crystal Palace training ground today, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad.”

Eze, 27, wants to join Spurs, who over the weekend are understood to have made an opening offer in the region of £60m.

His potential departure will also depend on whether or not Palace can land a replacement before the window closes.

They are chasing Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge midfielder Christos Tzolis.

Glasner added: “The players are giving the answer week by week, it was the same last week against the Community Shield, winning against Liverpool on penalties.

“Then starting here against the Club World Cup champions.

“It just shows that this group is such a great group of characters.

Roy Keane launches into ‘garlic bread’ rant as Sky Sports capture awkward moment between Marc Guehi and Oliver Glasner

“We have no influence on all the noise and all the rumours around us, but we know what we want to do, we know how we want to play, and this is what we want to show every single game.

“The players did great.

“They didn’t just show they are great footballers, but they are great people and that’s what I expected.”

Eze previously had a £60m release clause, including a further £8m in add-ons, but Glasner confirmed that has now expired and said his star man’s future was in the hands of club bosses.

Glasner added: “I’m quite calm.

“I also know, we have two weeks to go and I know Ebs’ clause is gone.

“So it’s the club’s decision, and we will see what happens.”

Tottenham first team to benefit from new Premier League rule as Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka penalised by referee

MARTIN DUBRAVKA fell foul of the new rules over goalkeepers holding onto the ball too long.

The Burnley stopper was punished for taking an age to release it out of his hands inside four minutes against Spurs.

Martin Dubravka was the first goalkeeper to fall foul of the new Premier League rules

New regulations cite that goalies cannot hold the ball for any longer than eight seconds.

Slovakian Dubravka, making his Clarets debut following his switch from Newcastle, was deemed to have taken longer than that and ref Michael Oliver intervened.

The whistler awarded a corner, as is the new rule, which Burnley managed to clear.

Spurs took the lead six minutes later, as Richarlison converted a cross from new signing Mohammed Kudus.

The Premier League circus is back, but after a summer of splurges who’ll be laughing when the curtain comes down in May?

IT’S opening night at football’s multi-billion dollar circus and spending has gone through the big-top roof.

So despite an almighty spree of his own, Arne Slot believes his Liverpool side will face tougher competition than ever if they are to retain their Premier League title.

England’s biggest five clubs have already shelled out more than £1billion between them this summer, in a whopping total spend of £2.1billion — or £2.5bn including deal add-ons.

And as the defending champions roll up to Anfield to face Bournemouth, kicking off another season for the greatest show on Earth, the Dutchman expects the title battle to be fiercer than ever.

Liverpool’s imminent signing of Giovanni Leoni would take their summer outlay to around £300m  — with deals for Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi still possible.

But world champs Chelsea have spent another quarter of a billion, followed by Manchester United (£200.5m), Arsenal (£181.8m) and Manchester City (£150.1m for a total of £324m in the calendar year).

And Slot said: “The reason why it’s so difficult lies mainly with the fact there are so many that can win the league over here.

BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS

“To win it once is very special, if you can win it twice in five years like us — and City did even better — then that is unbelievable.

“And probably this year’s going to be harder than any year before because every team brings in new players. Our main competitors definitely did as well.

“The challenge in the Premier League is always the teams. We start with Bournemouth — the most intense in the league in terms of running and also playing style — and after that it’s Newcastle and Arsenal.

“That sums up this league and the challenges we have.”

If winning the title is a serious achievement, retaining it is far tougher — only Pep Guardiola’s City, Sir Alex Ferguson’s United and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea have won back-to-back Premier League crowns.

Meet the Premier League’s newest wags after their star partners transfers including nurse, lawyer & make-up expert
Premier League summer spending table, showing the amount spent by each club.

7

Slot would be walking among giants if he wins a second title in two  seasons.

And while the signings of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez provide a major platform, he still wants Newcastle striker Isak as well as Guehi, the England defender who skippered Crystal Palace to beat the Reds in Sunday’s Community Shield.

Perennial runners-up Arsenal are in  a major recruitment drive too — adding Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa  Arrizabalaga and Cristhian Mosquera ahead of a critical campaign for Mikel Arteta.

As ever, Chelsea have bought in bulk — with strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap joining wingers Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian, left-back Jorrel Hato and midfielder Dario Essugo at a club powered by its own brand of chaos.

Guardiola’s City — four-in-a-row champions before  last term — have made four big signings in Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and James Trafford, to add to their January quartet.

With United’s attacking overhaul bringing Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in, never before have all of England’s major clubs seen such change.

Europa League winners Spurs have spent  £100m-plus, with more to come — with even promoted Sunderland well over nine figures.

The league is increasingly competitive. The Liverpool-City duopoly — when two near-perfect teams needed close to 100 points to take the crown — is over.

No longer does one defeat spell disaster, yet fewer fixtures are a formality for any title-chasers.

With Liverpool making so many changes, Slot faces a different pressure to when he inherited Jurgen Klopp’s squad last summer.

He said: “I took over a team with only two weeks to prepare due to the Euros and Copa America.

“This year we’ve brought in very good, intelligent players who need to integrate. Bournemouth will bring a big challenge but everyone is looking forward to it.”

Roll up, roll up — tonight’s the night we begin to find out if they all have more money than sense.

Major TV provider axing ‘on demand’ sports app in major blow to fans and the cut-off is BEFORE Premier League ends

A MAJOR UK TV provider is scrapping a popular sports app in just weeks, in a major blow to football fans.

Customers will lose access to the service before the end of the Premier League, with Brits urged to upgrade to avoid missing out.

TNT Sports logo

Affected devices will no longer show TNT Sports on demandCredit: TNT

From September 22, a number older of EE TV boxes will stop supporting the Discovery+ app, the streaming home for TNT sports content.

You will still be able to watch shows in real-time, but all on-demand content will be removed from your TV box.

That means customers will no longer be able to access Premier League highlights, catch up on missed Champions League matches, or watch any of their favourite Discovery+ reality or entertainment shows on demand.

The EE TV devices that will lose support for the Discovery+ app are:

  • 4K Recordable TV Box
  • TV Box
  • Recordable TV Box

The newer devices, TV Box Pro, TV Box Mini, and the custom Apple TV 4K EE Box will continue working as normal.

Following the changes, your subscription won’t be cancelled, and you can still watch Discovery+ and TNT Sports on other devices.

If your TV box is affected, then you will need to upgrade, or find an alternative means of watching.

To upgrade to a newer model, all you need to do is call EE.

The device will typically be sent to you for free, however, you will usually need to begin a new 24-month contract to get the upgrade.

TNT Sports will be broadcasting multiple football games from top compitions in the coming season

However, it is important to note that any recordings on your older device will not be switched over to the new device, so you should make sure to watch them all before making the switch.

If you don’t want to upgrade, you can still watch Discovery+ on your Smart TVs, tablets and laptops and smartphones.

If you’ve got a Smart TV, you can watch TNT sports and Discovery+ using that, and use your EE TV box for everything else.

Alternatively, you could switch to another TV subscription service instead.

EE TV (formerly BT TV) is a service available to BT and EE broadband customers.

It offers various packages ranging from a £20 a month entertainment package to an £80 a month Full Works plan.

In May, Spurs ended their 17-year trophy drought with a stunning 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Bilbao final.

New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank will get the chance to claim silverware in his first competitive match at the helm as he looks to lead the Lilywhites to the Super Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

The former Brentford boss will know it will be a big ask for Spurs as they face a PSG side who were the best team in Europe last season.

But this summer, the French giants failed to add the Club World Cup to their four trophies last term after they were thrashed 3-0 by Chelsea in the final.

Luis Enrique’s side will be looking to bounce back and add more silverware to their ever-expanding collection.

But it’s not just a trophy up for grabs in Udinese, with the Super Cup having huge cash incentives for both clubs.

What is the Super Cup prize money 2025?

Both PSG and Spurs will earn £3.4million each for playing in the Super Cup.

Whichever team goes on to lift the trophy, they will pick up an extra £900,000.

Meaning the Super Cup winner will bank a total of £4.3million.

How to watch the Super Cup 2025

  • The Super Cup will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.
  • You can live stream the match via the discovery+ app/website.
  • Alternatively, you can follow SunSport’s live blog for minute-by-minute updates.

Crystal Palace handed further blow as Premier League take ‘outrageous’ decision after Europa League expulsion

CRYSTAL PALACE fans have been struck by another bout of tough luck as the Premier League has rescheduled their upcoming match with Aston Villa

The match, scheduled to be held at Villa Park on Friday August 29th, has been moved to a 7pm Sunday kick-off.

The move adds insult to injury following the confirmation of their demotion to the Europa Conference League for the upcoming season.

The rescheduling has been made to accommodate the second leg of the Eagles’ opening fixture of that competition.

They will face either Fredrikstad or Midtjylland on August 28th.

The decision has piled the misery on to fans who are only just coming to terms with the brutal rejection of their CAS appeal on Monday.

Some fans have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with the impractical timing of the fixture.

One fan said: “7pm on a Sunday is outrageous.”

Another sarcastically pointed out the difficulties the fixture can bring travelling fans.

They said: “Oh brilliant. That will be fun with an early shift the next day.”

The game’s 9pm finish will cause havoc for fans making the over-200-mile round trip from Selhurst Park to Villa Park.

The topsy-turvy week just keeps getting more conflicting for fans following their surprise victory over Liverpool to secure the Community Shield on Sunday.

Crystal Palace lose appeal against their demotion from Europa League

Ecstasy made way for disappointment as news emerged of their defeat at CAS the following day.

Now news has emerged that Spurs have joined Arsenal in their pursuit of Palace talisman Eberechi Eze.

And now Liverpool have reportedly agreed terms with Palace captain Marc Guehi over a move to Anfield.

Should one or both of those deals go through, the club will be in dire shape ahead of their season opener at Chelsea this weekend.
