A woman has issued a warning to all British passport holders after her holiday plans ended in tears at the airport. Travel blogger Chelsea Rodd fell victim of a rule she was unaware of, resulting in her having to cancel her plans despite the fact her passport is yet to expire.
“I should be in Milan right now with the girls,” began a tearful Chelsea in a TikTok video. She continued, explaining that after arriving at London Gatwick Airport ready to drop off her baggage, her passport was subsequently checked and it soon became apparent she wouldn’t be heading to Italy. “I’m not sure if this is common knowledge – I travel all the time – but because my passport’s start date is July 2015, it’s just gone over the 10-year mark even though it doesn’t run out until April 2026,” Chelsea explained.

So what’s the problem? “I learned the hard way that for travel to the EU your UK passport must have been issued within the last 10 years – even if it hasn’t expired yet,” she revealed.
Chelsea continued: “I’m absolutely shocked by that. When you go to book your flight to the EU, nothing on the website mentions this and at the point of check-in nothing was said.”
Attempts to fly with a different airline, on alternative flights and to another airport all proved in vain. “I even tried the Passport Office and booking an emergency appointment online” Chelsea said. “But there was nothing until Monday when we’d be due to come back. I tried everything and the girls didn’t want to go without me, but I wanted them to have a lovely time as we’ve been planning it so long.”
To compound her misery, Chelsea revealed she will now be forced to miss out on numerous content creation opportunities she had arranged with a number of brands over the course of the past year.
She closed by urging others: “If you have a trip coming up, check your passport’s start date, not just the expiry date. This rule came in after Brexit, but it’s still catching so many people out.
“Previously when you renewed a passport, if you did it before the 10 years was up they would give you the extra on top – this was my issue. They don’t do that now.”
Writing in response, one TikTok user shared the same frustration, penning: “The annoying thing is when you check in and put your passport details in they only ask for expiry – and given this has happened so many times of people being unaware airlines should ask for start date too.”
A second person added: “This happened to me many years ago. I organised a trip to Milan. We all at airport checking in. That’s when I was informed that my passport had expired. I had to wave goodbye to my friends.”
While a third fumed: “Happened to me too a couple of weeks ago at Gatwick. Passport expires Sept 2026 and issued June 2015. Don’t get how they allow you to book. I always thought you had to have 6 months from when you return.”
The European Union’s travel website advises: “If you are a national from a country outside the EU wishing to visit or travel within the EU, you will need a valid passport and possibly a visa.
“Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU and it must have been issued within the last 10 years.
“This means your travel document must have been issued within the previous 10 years the day you enter the EU on condition that it is valid until the end of your stay plus an additional 3 months.”
Miriam Margolyes appeared in a pre-recorded clip on BBC Breakfast, where she choked back tears
Miriam Margolyes choked back tears after addressing her health concerns on Saturday (September 27).
The beloved actress featured in a pre-recorded segment on today’s BBC Breakfast, where she spoke to presenter Charlie Stayt about her illustrious career.
She also paused to address her wellbeing amid recent rumours. Miriam previously disclosed that she and her partner are preparing to relocate to Tuscany, sparking concern amongst fans who feared she might be unwell.
“There has been quite a lot of press speculation because you’ve said you’re leaving the UK to go and spend more time elsewhere, Tuscany I think it is. And I think people read into that that maybe you’re not well,” Charlie began.
“Two years ago, I had a TAVI [Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation] operation or a procedure. I had a cow’s aortic valve. I was offered a pig’s, and I said, ‘No, I’m Jewish. I better have a cow just to keep it level,”” Miriam explained, reports the Express.
“They used that as if I was dying now. I’m no more dying than you’re dying. Because we’re all dying eventually, but I don’t know when and I hope it’s a long time away.”
Charlie then said: “Well, there will be many people who are reassured to hear that from you.”
Miriam added: “I’m perfectly fine. I’m 84, I’ve got various ailments, a weak bladder which is because I didn’t do pelvic floor exercises. But I am fine. I am not mental. I am a working actress and an extremely successful writer.”
The star later grew tearful as she reflected on cherished memories of her late mother, including the duo belting out musical numbers together.
Miriam is currently performing in her solo show, entitled Miriam Margolyes: From A to Z, which is touring throughout the UK and Ireland. The production showcases touching tales from her youth, alongside professional stories.
“I do not [sing]. I look as if I can sing. I do sing in my show, only one song which is Daisy, Daisy. My mother, whom I adored, used to sing musical songs with me. She played the piano and she wanted to be an actress,” Miriam disclosed.
She emotionally continued: “When she had a stroke, which was after I told her I was gay, and I think it really crushed her, the only words that she could speak were, ‘I can’t afford a carriage,’ and that makes me think of her when I sing it.”
Charlie then remarked: “And for those that don’t know, that’s a line from the song [Daisy, Daisy]. I can see that gets you, even just recounting the story.”
Miriam concluded: “I’m aware of being old, although still spirited. And it makes me remember when I was little and I was with her. I loved her so much. Life’s a rollercoaster, thank God we’re still rolling.”
MAFS UK decsended into chaos once again tonight, as one groom broke down in tears after his wife told him he was ‘too negative’ during a camel ride in Morocco
22:35, 25 Sep 2025Updated 23:06, 25 Sep 2025
Another honeymoon spiralled into disaster during tonight’s episode of Married At First Sight, as Julia-Ruth and Divarni headed off to Morocco.
The couple tied the knot during last night’s E4 episode, and they instantly bonded, with Divarni even going as far as to say it was “love at first sight”. However, tonight things took a huge U-turn with Divarni left in tears after a ‘disastrous’ camel ride date.
Things started to change the morning after the wedding, when Julia said that she’d woken up with a different thought, and despite being a sexual person, the desire wasn’t there for her.
Things took an awkward turn when they arrived at their destination, and began talking about their first impressions of each other after walking down the aisle.
“I think there was an expectation around height,” Julia-Ruth told her new husband. “I have dated taller guys,” she said, before crying to the cameras, telling them she “didn’t want to be mean to him”.
Divarni was left shocked, telling cameras he was hurt by the admission. However, they didn’t let it put a halt to the honeymoon, as Julia-Ruth seemed bored in her husband’s company.
Things got too much during their camel ride, as Julia-Ruth asked Divarni what his greatest fear was – but the answer isn’t what she was expecting.
“Growing up, I was always alone,” he said. “I think knowing that I could probably be alone for the rest of my life, that would be the worst.”
Speaking to the cameras, Julia-Ruth said: “That’s not what I meant at all. With Divarni it’s quite hard to see the fun, light-hearted side. It’s just too deep, he doesn’t see any positives, it’s just too much.”
She then went on to tell her groom that he “focuses on the negatives” which will make him attract it. “The camel ride was a disaster,” she told cameras. “I can’t lift us both up.”
Later at dinner, the pair talked it out, with Julia-Ruth saying she needed positivity and fun. “I don’t want you to feel that you can’t open up to me because that’s not what the case is. There just needs to be a balance and a time and place for things.”
Divarni responded that it wasn’t his intentions to “be Mr Negative” – while his bride responded: “The last thing I want to do is have a talk about traumas and then, like, get into bed with you,” as they slept in separate rooms.
Opening up once again to the cameras, Divarni said: “The thing that hurt me the most is sleeping in separate rooms, but if she needs her space, I’lll give her space.”
He was then seen with his head in his hands as he sat on the floor in tears, but can they come back from this?
JIMMY Kimmel returned to his show on Tuesday night after ABC yanked him from the air nearly a week ago.
Kimmel, 57, addressed his audience after his show was pulled last week over controversial comments he made about political activist and influencer Charlie Kirk’s shooter.

During his opening monologue, Kimmel took the time to speak out about free speech and the political climate in America.
The late night host took to the stage as he was welcomed with a standing ovation and chants of “Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy.”
The comedian opened the show with a crack, “If you’re just joining us, we are preempting your regularly scheduled encore episode of Celebrity Family Feud to bring you this special report.”
“I’m happy to be here tonight,” he added.
“I’m not sure who had a weirder 48 hours, me or the CEO of Tylenol,” he said with a chuckle.
Kimmel took the time to thank a slew of friends, including his “fellow late-night talk show hosts, my friend Stephen Colbert who found himself in this predicament. My friend, John Stewart, Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon.”
He also thanked the many people who don’t align with his political leanings but who still stood up for his right to say it.
He thanked Ben Shapiro, Clay Travis, Candace Owens, Mitch McConnell, and then said “and even my old pal Ted Cruz,” before running a sound bite from the Texas senator.
Kimmel then continued “Some of the things they say even make me want to throw up but it takes courage for them to speak out against this administration. They did it. They deserve credit for it.”
ON HIS COMMENTS ON CHARLIE KIRK’S KILLER
The late-night host’s voice cracked as he opened up about the murder of activist Charlie Kirk and cleared the air, denouncing his killing unequivocally.
He continued, “I do want to make something clear, because it’s important to me as a human and that is you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” he said as he fought back tears.
“I posted a message on Instagram the day he was killed, sending love to [Kirk’s] family and asking for compassion, and I meant it, and I still do, nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual.”
“That was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make. But I understand that to some that felt either it was ill-timed or unclear or maybe both, and for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset,” he continued.
“If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way. I have many friends and family members on the other side who I love and remain close to, even though we don’t agree on politics at all, I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone.
“This was a sick person who believed violence was a solution and it isn’t it ever and also, selfishly, I am the person who gets a lot of threats. I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my co workers because of what I choose to say, and I know those threats don’t come from the kind of people on the right who I know and love.”
“So that’s what I wanted to say on that subject,” he continued.
ON RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH
Kimmel then turned to the First Amendment, explaining that he’s spoken with comedians in countries like Russia and the Middle East who said they’d be thrown in jail or worse for making fun of those in power.
“They know how lucky we are here.
“Our freedom to speak is what they admire most about this country, and that’s something I’m embarrassed to say I took for granted until they pulled my friend Steven [Colbert] off the air and tried to coerce the affiliates who run our show in the cities that you live in to take my show off the air.
“That’s not legal. That’s not American. That is un-American.”
He then turned his sites to Federal Communications Chairman, Brendan Carr.
“Brendan Carr, the chairman of the FCC, telling an American company, We can do this the easy way or the hard way,’ and that these companies can find ways to change conduct and take action on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead, in addition to being a direct violation of the First Amendment, is not a particularly intelligent threat to make in public,” Kimmel said.
The late night host then shared a clip of President Donald Trump vehemently heralding free speech in a quote in 2022.
He then played another quote from the president, which was from this week, in which he said of Kimmel “Look, he was fired. He had no talent. He’s a whack job, but he had no talent. More importantly, then talent, because a lot of people who have no talent get ratings, he had no ratings,” to which the audience booed.
Kimmel then joked “He tried, did his best to cancel me instead, he forced millions of people to watch the show which backfired ‘bigly.’
“He might have to release the Epstein files to distract us from this now,” to which his audience erupted in raucous applause.
RATINGS BOOST?
As The U.S. Sun previously revealed, ABC execs are expecting Tuesday night’s show will prove a ratings boom.
The source said, “Everybody is excited about Kimmel’s expected ratings boost this week.
“Jimmy is becoming an icon for free speech… and now he’ll be even more secure as long as he plays his cards right.”
However, the late night host’s big return wasn’t aired in all markets.
Affiliate carriers, Sinclair and Nexstar, said they wouldn’t be airing Kimmel’s return on their stations.
“There are ongoing talks this morning [Tuesday] between Nexstar, Sinclair, and Disney, but Disney has drawn the line and is prepared for the fight,” an insider revealed.
On Monday night, Sinclair Broadcasting Group announced its decision to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! across its ABC affiliate stations, replacing the program with local news.
However, an insider pointed out that affiliate stations have contractual obligations to carry ABC programming, including advertisements that have already been sold.
Jimmy Kimmel return date revealed after ABC yanked host for ‘ill-timed and insensitive comments’
The source alleged, “The affiliates are basically posturing for the White House,” while suggesting that the companies may be attempting to breach their contracts with ABC.
NEXSTAR’S BIG MOVE
Nexstar is seeking approval from the Trump administration’s FCC for an unprecedented acquisition of its competitor, Tegna, according to The New York Times.
If approved, the deal would likely surpass the current cap on households a single media company can reach.
An insider told The U.S. Sun that Disney is ready to take on Sinclair and Nexstar in the ongoing dispute over the suspension of Kimmel Live!
“Disney legal is prepared to fight it out, and right now, from a brand perspective, they’ve got nothing to lose by fighting,” the source said. “Disney holds the cards here.”
When reached for comment by The U.S. Sun, Nexstar declined to respond.
ABC and Sinclair were also contacted for comment.

LATE NIGHT DRAMA
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was suspended after backlash erupted over controversial comments the comedian made regarding the suspected assassin of activist and influencer Charlie Kirk.
Just hours before his scheduled return on Tuesday night, Kimmel broke his silence.
The comedian posted a photo of himself with his late friend and producer Norman Lear, captioned, “Missing this guy today.”
KIMMEL RETURNS
On Monday afternoon, ABC issued a statement confirming that “thoughtful discussions” had taken place with Kimmel following his suspension.
The statement read, “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country.
“It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.
“We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
EXACTLY WHAT KIMMEL SAID THAT GOT HIM YANKED
This is Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue from Monday, September 15, that got the show pulled from air.
Kimmel said, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.
“In between the finger-pointing, the White House flew the flag at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president was taking this,” he continued before the show cut to a clip of Trump.
The president was seen standing on the White House lawn as a reporter asked him how he was “holding up” a day and a half following Kirk’s death.
“I think very good,” said Trump before abruptly pointing to trucks and saying they are starting construction on the new White House ballroom.
The show then cut back to Kimmel, who said, “He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,” before the audience burst out in laughter.
“This is not how an adult grieved the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish. OK?”
Kimmel said this wasn’t the first time that Trump has dodged questions about Kirk, and the show cut to an interview the president had with Fox & Friends the morning after the conservative activist’s death.
Trump told the hosts that he was chatting with architects about the White House project when he learned about the shooting before the show cut back to Kimmel.
“And then we installed the most beautiful chandelier,” mocked Kimmel.
CHAOS ON SET
As The U.S. Sun exclusively revealed last week, the decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel Live! was made just minutes before taping began on Wednesday, September 17th.
“Things transpired very fast. Word filtered down to the individual stations around 3 pm that Jimmy would get pulled, and it sent station heads panicking,” an insider shared.
“Jimmy and the crew were getting ready to film when, at 3:45 pm, news broke widely, and that’s how the crew found out. They were shocked.”
Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, described Kimmel’s remarks as “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse.”
KIRK’S MURDER
Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10th while speaking with students at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Tyler Robinson, 22, allegedly fired a single shot at Kirk, according to officials.
Robinson turned himself in 33 hours later after confessing the crime to his family, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed.

Married at First Sight UK returned tonight and E4 viewers saw bride Sarah getting emotional before walking down the aisle as she spoke about the loss of her late mother
MAFS UK: Sarah opens up about missing her late mum
One of the brides on the new series of Married at First Sight UK was seen emotional just minutes into the launch episode whilst discussing her life. Sarah spoke about losing her late mother Julie ahead of walking down the aisle.
Sarah, 31, from Aberdeen, was introduced on the E4 show tonight in the first episode of the latest series. She brought up the loss at her joint hen do with some of her co-stars ahead of her match in the experiment being unveiled.
The recruitment consultant said that she would be walked down the aisle by her dad, who she described as her “rock”. Sarah then spoke about her mother Julie, saying: “I lost my mum was I was 22. She passed away. So she won’t be there.”

In a confessional on the show, Sarah told viewers: “My mum was my hero but round the age of 12 I noticed that she had a problem with alcohol. I would come home from school and I would find her intoxicated on the couch so I had to take on a carer role, essentially, at a really young age.”
Sarah was seen looking through a photo album with her father as they reflected on the past. Moments later, she was seen in tears as she opened up about her mother’s death in a confessional that was shown amid the hen party scenes.
She shared with viewers in the scene that was broadcast earlier this evening: “By the time I was 22, she was admitted to hospital for the final time.” Visibly emotional, bride Sarah then added: “She passed away three days later.”
As she wiped tears from her eyes, Sarah said that she took “comfort” from her mother being “at peace”. She said: “We went back to see her and she was so at peace, which is the comfort that I take from it and I miss her all the time.”
She shared with viewers that her late mother Julie had died when Sarah was in her early twenties(Image: E4)
At the party with her co-stars, Sarah said: “So [I’ve] sort of gone into most of my adult life obviously not having my mum.” She shared that she particularly finds it “quite hard” going into life events and “not having her there”.
Sarah, who moments later suggested that she didn’t want to get “upset” at the party, added: “One of those things like it’s never really like the same but you just get on with it.” She then told the group that mother will be “so proud” of her.
The bride said: “She’d be absolutely buzzing and I know she will be watching this being like ‘go on Saz’. Like ‘you’ve got this girl’ so she’s gonna be so proud of me.” The group then raised a glass to her late mother Julie in the scene.
If you are struggling with alcohol abuse or addiction, advice and support can be found at alcoholchange.org.uk.
The new series of MAFS UK continues tomorrow night on E4 from 9pm. The first episode is available on demand.
STRICTLY Come Dancing has seen some iconic pairings during its two decades on screen.
Tonight, the class of 2025 will learn who their pro-partners are on the pre-recorded launch show.

The Strictly 2025 pairings will be revealed tonightCredit: PA
But many will be hoping their Strictly partnerships don’t go the way of these past duos, who didn’t exactly see eye-to-eye, to put it politely.
Here’s a recap of some of the worst Strictly pairings ever.
Fiona Phillips and Brendan Cole

Former GMTV host Fiona took part in the third series of Strictly back in 2005.
She wasn’t a natural on the dancefloor, and she has claimed pro-partner Brendan Cole made his feelings on that very clear.
In her book, Remember When: My Life With Alzheimer’s, Fiona – who is battling the disease – wrote: “He could also be seen looking at my dancing and saying, ‘Pathetic, it’s not good enough!’
“Then I’m begging him to ‘stop shouting’ and worrying that I look completely ridiculous. There’s a clip where I say to the cameraman that Brendan is looking at me like he’s stepped in something.
“I really don’t remember much of that time now – maybe I blocked it out because all I recall is the sense that it was incredibly traumatic.”
She added that she was on ‘the brink of tears’ most of the time and quickly regretted her decision to sign up.
Johnny Ball and Aliona Vilani

Johnny Ball accused his partner Aliona Vilani of ‘faking’ an injury – prompting her to get her solicitors involvedCredit: BBC
Legendary TV presenter Johnny, 87, was part of the 2012 series, where he was paired with the previous years winner, Aliona.
Aliona left the early stages of the 10th series due to an injury and Johnny was paired with Iveta Lukošiūtė instead.
Strictly’s Danny John-Jules fails to join Amy Dowden for exit chat on It Takes Two
He told The Sun on Sunday: “Aliona fell on a flat floor in flat shoes and said she had broken her leg.
“The next day she flew to the South of France for a pre-arranged weekend with her boyfriend.”
The star was then paired with Iveta – and he claimed that she devised a routine that was too difficult for him.
He said: “When I was knocked out she said, ‘That’s funny, my contract ends on Tuesday’.”
Aliona later took to X to deny his claims, saying: “I am aware that Johnny Ball has made allegations regarding my fractured ankle during 2012 SCD, which I strongly deny.
“I have instructed solicitors and am taking legal action in relation to his allegations.
“It’s therefore not appropriate to comment further at this time.”
Fern Britton and Artem Chigvintsev
6
Fern Britton accused Artem Chigvintzev of ‘kicking and shoving’ her, which he vehemently deniedCredit: BBC
Fern was paired with Artem, 43, in series 10 in 2012 and was the fifth celebrity to be eliminated.
While her run on Strictly wasn’t long, it was tough, with Fern previously telling The Times: “He would look at my feet and just kick me or shove me.”
Artem denied Fern’s claims of him ‘kicking or shoving her’ during tense rehearsals.
He told the Daily Express: “I believe I treated Fern with respect and genuine care and these claims about me are the opposite of everything I believe in and the person I am.
“I cannot imagine what has prompted such statements which come as a shock to me.”
She added in her book, Fern Britton The Older I Get, how her confidence was knocked straightaway with Artem.
Describing the rehearsals as “challenging”, Fern added: “As the weeks went on, I found it increasingly hard to gather up my self-confidence and there were days I was crying before I even got into the rehearsal room.”
Lynda Bellingham and Darren Bennett

The late actress and Loose Women star Lynda Bellingham signed up for Strictly in 2009.
She was paired with series two champ Darren Bennett, but the duo were voted out on the fourth week.
Following her death in 2014 from cancer, her husband Michael Pattemore claimed in a book that Lynda had “hated” her time on Strictly.
He wrote: “There were two things about Strictly she didn’t like. One was her body image. She always thought she looked fat. I kept saying she didn’t.
“She picked this ruched gold dress and she said it made her look 20 times bigger than what she was.
“And the other thing, she said her partner Darren Bennett was such a miserable git. There was no laughter, no fun.
“All the way through rehearsals she didn’t mind training hard, but it was solid dance. He was just hard work.
“If Lynda had had a partner like Anton du Beke or someone, now they would have had some fun together.”
Danny John-Jules and Amy Dowden

Back in 2018, Red Dwarf star Danny was paired with pro dancer Amy Dowden.
While the pair produced some great routines, rumours of behind-the-scenes tension were rife.
The Sun revealed at the time that Danny, 65, had received a final warning by show bosses for “bullying” partner Amy.
When they were voted off in week eight, Danny opted not to take part in their exit interview on spin-off show It Takes Two, leaving Amy to do it on her own.

Melissa Higgins took her family on a three-day trip to Disneyland Paris on funded by Make A Wish Foundation with her 14-year-old son Anthony Higgins on August 27

A schoolboy was left in tears after easyJet staff allegedly forced him to abandon his wheelchair battery or risk not being flown home from Disneyland.
Melissa Higgins took her family on a three-day trip to Disneyland Paris, a journey funded by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with her 14-year-old son, Anthony (AJ) Higgins, on 27 August.
Anthony suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive genetic disorder that causes muscle weakness and leaves him unable to walk. Melissa says his £10,000 power-assisted wheelchair is his ‘life’ as it provides him with independence.
The mother-of-four claims a pilot refused to allow the wheelchair battery onto the return flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Manchester airport on 29 August because the wattage wasn’t visible.
Anthony had to leave his wheelchair behind(Image: Kennedy News/Melissa Higgins)
The full-time carer insists she’s never encountered problems before, including on their outbound flight with easyJet, and maintains she had paperwork stating it was safe to fly – but was compelled to leave it in Paris.
Without his wheelchair, the teenager is now ‘stuck’ inside his house and unable to go to school, the family has claimed.
Melissa, 37, is still hopeful that the £1,000 battery will be returned to them and she has since received an apology over the phone from the airline.
The mum, from Speke, Liverpool, said: “I was in shock on the plane and thinking, ‘What’s going on?’. We’ve not had this problem before. I don’t get why all the commotion’s gone on for nothing. It was a lifelong dream of AJ’s to go to Disneyland. He was able to fly to Disneyland with no problems.”
Melissa explained how, on the way home, a pilot spotted the battery and told the family they couldn’t travel with it.
“It went through customs perfectly fine. If there was something wrong with it they would’ve known. He was like, ‘It hasn’t got a wattage on it’ but these batteries don’t have a wattage on them because they’re dry and not liquid,” Melissa said of the pilot.
“We were there for about an hour and a half and he was trying to get this wattage for the battery, but I explained ‘it doesn’t have a wattage, we have all the paperwork from the manufacturers’. He said it puts the other travellers at risk.”
She added: “Doing this in front of everyone was humiliating and everyone on the plane was moaning. We were all crying. In the end we just wanted to get the kids home so we had to leave the battery behind and had to come home without it. Obviously we wanted to bring the chair back with us because it’s his life.”
The mum says her son has lost all of his independence without his wheelchair and is hoping to be reunited with the battery to avoid having to fork out £1,000 for a new one.
An easyJet spokesman said: “Safety is easyJet’s highest priority and airlines must follow the safety regulations for the carriage of batteries, which are allowed to travel on the aircraft as long as the required information for safe carriage can be provided, and we advise customers of these requirements ahead of travel.
“Unfortunately, as the necessary information could not be provided for this battery, in line with safety procedures, it was unable to travel. However we fully understand the frustration this will have caused and are in contact with the family to offer further assistance and have arranged to return the battery to them today.”

“Are you ok?” quizzed another.
A third person wrote: “If I was there I would have give u a hug.”

Myleene’s shock feud explained
Myleene Klass has found herself embroiled in a bitter feud.
And with the National Television Awards taking place this week, it has been revealed Myleene will skip the event to avoid any awkward run-ins with the two women.
A source told The Sun: “There has been wild speculation lately that the women don’t get on after falling out years ago.
“Fortunately, they will avoid a public clash as Myleene, who has been a regular at the glitzy event over the years, is swerving it this year as she has work commitments.”

It was also the last time son Jack saw his dad, he shared in a new YouTube video.
“My dad was great. He was in a good mood he was happy,” he said.
“I woke up in Los Angeles to a knock on my house door at around 3.45 in the morning.
“Someone who has worked for my family for about 30 years now was knocking on my door and when I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I knew something bad had happened.
“I was informed that my father had passed.”
The grieving son continued: “So many thoughts, there was a level of like “okay, he’s not struggling. He’s not suffering anymore”. And that is something.
“I wish he was still here, you know? I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go and I think people saw that at the show.”
Jack rushed back to England to support his family, and prepare for the funeral, as well as a procession through Birmingham in his father’s memory.

“I speak for the family when I saw this. We are so grateful for that and it meant so much…. it was validating because I know we weren’t alone”, Jack added.
The late rock legend’s son previously shared a heartwarming clip to Instagram and explained how hand-written letters, memorabilia, and merch were being “carefully preserved”.
Jack told how every item will be recorded on a digital database and given to the Osbourne family.

He said: “I haven’t really wanted to post anything since the passing of my father. My heart has hurt too much.
“I’m gonna keep this short because he certainly hated long rambling speeches.
“He was so many things to so many people, but I was so lucky and blessed to be apart of a very small group that got to call him “Dad.”
“My heart is full of so much sadness and sorrow, but also so much love and gratitude.”
Jack continued: “I got 14,501 days with that man and I know that is such a blessing. I think this quote best describes my father.
“Hunter S. Thompson once said: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body… but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!'”
He added: “That was my dad. He lived and he lived his life fully. I love you dad.”
In recent years, Ozzy had been battling numerous health conditions, including Parkinson’s.
His official death certificate lists ‘acute myocardial infarction’ and ‘out of hospital cardiac arrest’ under the cause of death section.
It also listed coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction as “joint causes” of Ozzy’s death.
In his final performance, Ozzy sang five songs in his own set, with fans waving torches from their phones during Mama, I’m Coming Home.
He finished his performance with Crazy Train, before confetti rained over a packed Villa Park.

The reunion special of Love is Blind UK has arrived on Netflix – however, it proved to be an emotional one for co-host Emma Willis with the star forced to pause filming
Emma Willis bursts into tears on the Love is Blind UK reunion
Love is Blind UK’s Emma Willis burst into tears during the Netflix show’s emotional reunion special and was forced to take a break after the episode took an emotional turn. The second series of the dating competition came to an end this week, with the couples reuniting for a highly-anticipated special.
While the final episode of Love is Blind UK saw three couples say ‘I do’ at their wedding ceremony, the reunion revealed that only Kieran and Megan were still together. Kal and Sarover admitted that they separated back in January after Kal decided that they were no longer compatible.
“I have faith in love from this experiment and being brave every single day of that experiment,” she said. “And exposing myself in every possible way because I wanted this to work.
“And I wanted to find true love and someone who would make me feel safe every single day. I want someone with a backbone. Someone who loves me for me and all of me 365 days of the year until we pass.
“I want that love story and I deserve that love story and I love myself for that. And love me unconditionally every single day and not give up within three months because I have a role which is very similar to yours, where I travel at times.”
Ashleigh’s speech left Emma in tears, with the presenter saying: “I know, I know this is really hard. But thank you both so much for being here, for being honest and I do hope you both find genuine love until the day you die.”
She added: “Oh, you got me you two did,” while husband and co-host Matt Willis comforted her. “Shall we take another break?” he asked, before Emma decided that it would be best if they paused filming.
During the reunion, Sarover opened up about her break-up from Kal, saying that she “never saw the end coming”. Kal repeatedly said: “I just don’t think I’m compatible in a long-term relationship, and it took me to meet on paper the perfect woman to realize that.”
However, Sarover hit back and criticised him for going through a “legal commitment” she didn’t think he ever should have made if he had doubts about their future.
Sheridan Smith is being praised for her powerful performance in I Fought the Law, a new ITV drama based on the real-life harrowing story of a Brit who fought for justice after her daughter’s murder

The four-part series, which started airing tonight (August 31), tells the harrowing true story of Ann Ming – the woman who changed an 800-year-old law in her fight for justice following the murder of her daughter Julie.
Smith, who has become the go-to star for bringing real-life figures to the screen in acclaimed dramas such as The C Word, The Moorside, Four Lives, Mrs Biggs and Cilla, is being called one of the best British actors in existence for her role in this show.
She gives viewers a glimpse of what Ann may have gone through from the moment Julie went missing in 1989 until the end of her 15 year campaign to overturn the ancient British double jeopardy rule that was keeping her daughter’s killer out of jail.

Audiences were stunned with the actresses’ portrayal of a parent’s worst nightmare in episode one as Ann fought with indifferent police after her daughter vanished, eventually resorting to chasing leads on her own before making the heartbreaking discovery of Julie’s body 80 days later.
One fan took to social media to share how touched they were by the performance, writing: “Just finished watching #IFoughtTheLaw Sheridan Smith utterly fantastic in the role of Ann Ming. I’m in bits tbh. What a wonderful achievement in changing the double jeopardy law to finally get justice for Julie.”
Another admitted: “Just binged every episode! Horrific crime. Disgusting policing. Outstanding woman. Sheridan is amazing as always. It’s a must watch. Cried my eyes out. Lots of love to Julie’s family.” A third chimed in: “This is so tense. You can feel the panic.”
The series is adapted from Ann’s memoir For the Love of Julie and written by Jamie Crichton (All Creatures Great and Small, The Last Kingdom).
Unlike a traditional whodunit, the show reveals the culprit early on, and spends most of its runtime on Ann’s long legal battle to overturn double jeopardy after her daughter’s killer was acquitted despite compelling DNA evidence.
Ann Ming’s campaign eventually led to the Criminal Justice Act 2003, which created an exception to the double jeopardy rule.
This paved the way for a retrial of William Dunlop, who had confessed to Julie’s murder. In 2006, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
Sheridan Smith was almost unrecognisable on screen after spending hours in the make-up chair every day ahead of playing Ann. Her costume included a wig that demonstrates her aging as the episodes progress and years of campaigning and grief take their toll on the mum.
The actress admitted that she barely recognised her own reflection during filming, explaining: “I couldn’t even see myself in the mirror. It just wasn’t me, and I didn’t see where I was. So it was a magic shoot.”
The star also said that playing such a weighty character came with a deep sense of responsibility. Smith told The Hollywood Reporter : “I felt such responsibility to do her story justice, because she’s trusted these guys to tell her story. At the end of the day, it’s her real life. It’s not just a TV show, it’s her life and her family, and it matters.”
Tearfully recalling the moment, she said: “I saw Leo on his bike perched up against a wall, and he was talking to himself as if he had an imaginary friend, and it made me fall in love with him so much.
“But equally and probably one of the reasons why it’s jerking tears is because, I guess for a second I thought, ‘oh god is this because he doesn’t have any siblings?’’.

As Ryan attempted to reassure his emotional partner, she revealed her first time mum fears that Leo’s behaviour was “abnormal.”
He reflected: “I think that’s very normal for kids, I’m pretty sure I had imaginary friends.”
To this, Louise shared: “I guess Leo’s our only child and we’re still first-time parents and navigating all of those milestones for the first time.
“And you don’t really know what to expect when you have one child, you have nothing to compare it to, so I didn’t know whether that was normal.”
However, she then claimed a fan had got in touch with her to tell her that a child having an imaginary friend was a “sign of intelligence.”
Alongside the podcast clip, Louise wrote: “First-time parenting really is just learning on the go, isn’t it?
Louise Thompson’s fiance Ryan admits he ‘resented her’ after traumatic birth of son where she asked him ‘am I dying?’
“Every week there’s something new, something that makes you stop and think.
“It can feel scary, but it’s also the most rewarding thing in the world.”
I worried that it was because we haven’t been able to give Leo a sibling yet
Louise Thompson
Opening up about the support from fans, the brunette beauty wrote: “One of my followers messaged me to say that having an imaginary friend at a young age is a sign of intelligence.
“That was really kind of her because as an anxious first time mum navigating this whole world as each milestone passes, I worried that it was because we haven’t been able to give Leo a sibling yet.”
Numerous other fans followed and eagerly rushed to the comments to share their support and reassure Louise that Leo’s behaviour was in fact “normal”, as one said: “Bless though wonderful mummy tears. That raw protective emotion we feel is unmatched to one another.”
A second chimed in: “All the only children I know are so smart, great with people of all ages and very capable and independent thinkers.”
Is it selfish having an only child?
MARRIED gift company owner Calypso, 40, has a five-year-old son. She says:
I took great pride in being an only child. That’s why I deliberately have just the one.
I never felt I was missing out on anything through not having a sibling. There was never a time when I craved a brother or sister.
It was not until I was in junior school, aged eight, that I gave it any thought. I wasn’t a loner – I had lots of friends – but the advantage was I got to have time alone too.
I’d make up games or draw for hours. If anything, being an only child stretched my imagination.
Mum worked long hours in the TV industry. People might think it’s glamorous but working freelance meant she couldn’t afford to have another child, financially or time-wise.
I’ve always been told I have “only child” traits, like working for myself or being a bit bossy. And I’m the first to say I am headstrong. I certainly don’t take to being told what to do, either.
I’d always known I would have just the one child – and that’s because I like my independence. We get to go away. I cycle everywhere with my son on the back of my bike and we live on a canal boat.
It’s a life we all love and it wouldn’t work with four of us. I also have more time for my other half, as my mum is very happy to look after one child.
I like an easy life. I just don’t know how parents cope with three kids. One child is enough for me to parent. I like my moments of peace and I don’t enjoy chaos.
I’ve got enough energy, resources and focus to make sure he gets my attention to live his best life.
It’s working so far. He hasn’t noticed that he doesn’t have any brothers or sisters.
He thrives on having lots of “Mum and Dad time”. My husband has a brother yet he wasn’t fussed about having more than one kid. He also prefers an easy life.
With the financial resources we have, I can give my son a good life filled with love, adventure and my undivided attention.
Maybe I’m selfish but we are working to our capabilities to keep a happy and healthy family unit.
Meanwhile, a third penned: ”I have a daughter, only child, and I still worry and she’s 33! She is the kindest, most grounded girl and I’m so proud of her….. you’re doing an amazing job.”
At the same time, one mother explained: “Our 5-year-old daughter used to have an imaginary friend called Boxy. I was worried at first but it’s very normal and also a sign of great imagination. I love her for it.”
With the desire to extend her family in the future, Louise has also spoken of difficulties and admitted she will “never carry another child.”

She told Grazia: “For a long time I was so triggered by babies – I couldn’t look at people’s babies and pregnancy announcements and those sorts of things.
“The tricky thing for us is that this just isn’t really possible in the conventional way because I’m not going to carry another child.
“I really wanted to freeze my eggs and some embryos last year, but I was overcoming my stoma surgery for a good chunk and then that was when I started to feel really well.
“And I feel like I slightly missed the boat but I can’t put the blame on myself because there wasn’t really an appropriate time before I started taking a bit of a dip again.”

The Repair Shop featured the case of grieving parents John and Margaret Ivin this week – but there was more to the tale than met the eye, and the fresh detail is tragic
John and Margaret Ivin took to The Repair Shop crumbled bits of plaster that had special importance
A heartbreaking blog details a son’s brave journey with cancer – which this week led to an emotional restoration on BBC’s The Repair Shop which left viewers in tears.
Chris Ivin had written by hand a note on the wallpaper on his family home when he was 14 and, when this was discovered behind a cupboard when parents John and Margaret did some renovation work recently, they hoped to get it turned into a treasured memorial. This was because Chris since died following his battle with testicular cancer and his grieving mother and father were desperate for fresh mementos.
A blog has come to light which, though dormant for years since Chris’ death in May 2012, detailed the man’s journey with the disease. He gave moving and often humorous accounts of the ups and downs of daily life with his parents and fiancée Inna – who he referred to as “The Russian” – at his side.
Chris Ivin, of London, was a talented camera operator and technician
In one entry, Chris told how he had “still got my chin up” while adding: “It’s not all beer and skittles, this ‘being off work for way over a year’ thing. What I’ve got at the mo does have its drags, let me tell you. There are some very low days indeed.
“The Russian and I call them bad cancer days It’s very upsetting to be back on chemo after such a long time of recovery. I know I was told things were bad again back in Feb, hence the trip up north.
“It’s very sad to know that I’m back to not understanding my body and being very unpredictable about plans and seeing any of you guys.
“The worst was to come. After being released from hospital there were times I couldn’t even muster the coordination to walk or climb stairs. Help was required on a permanent basis either from the Russian or my mum and dad.”
The young man died in 2012 after a battle with cancer
Chris, who started his career as a camera assistant recording videos of live music performances including AC/DC and Tina Turner as well as for comedians Eddie Izzard and Lee Evans, was diagnosed with the rare form of testicular cancer in January 2011.
The media professional, from southeast London, underwent a series of gruelling treatments but died less than 18 months after his diagnosis on May 29, 2012. Among the treatment, Chris had experimental mistletoe therapy treatment in northern Scotland.
In another blog post, he wrote: “Every week I got a bit better but to be that reliant really took some getting used to. Eating, drinking, fetching the smallest things. Impossible. I really had to be waited on hand and foot. Sounds great? No way!.”
The team on The Repair Shop was able to carefully restore Chris’ message
Chris became a freelancer for the BBC, before landing a sought after job in Formula One providing coverage for broadcasters around the world. His blog also alluded to his illustrious career but later featured references to his dark days towards the end of his cancer battle.
And his dad left one of the final, devastating post in May 2012. Announcing the heartbreaking news of his death John wrote to followers: “For all those people that do not know that our beloved son, Chris ‘Milton’ passed away 13.26 this afternoon (29-05). He did not want to go, but when he did it was peacefully.”
John and Margaret, who are in their 70s, were overwhelmed with emotion when The Repair Shop team presented them with the restored message, complete with a tidy frame, in this week’s episode. Margaret gasped: “That’s amazing” at the treasure.

Speaking to the show’s agents, she said: “Well, I’ve been thinking quite a lot whilst we’ve been in Ibiza and I think I need to date in more of a natural environment.
“I think I just would love to meet somebody and date more privately. It’s where I’m kind of feeling myself going back, when I want to go freely forward.
“Right. And I’ve made the decision to leave the agency.”

Continuing she said: “But as much as I am very, very comfortable talking about my sexuality and being me, and I know that I want to continue dating women, I’ve found that outside attention far too much.
“And I’ve found myself feeling like I’m hiding more. And I don’t want that. That’s not what I want.”
Christine then began to cry as she revealed she just wanted to “go home” and “be with her children”.
The tearful star said: “”I’ve been missing the kids loads this week. I think all the love I need right now is waiting for me at home.”
In an exclusive interview with The Sun earlier this month, love guru Anna Williamson opened up Paddy’s ex-wife’s sudden exit.
Emotional Christine McGuinness opens up about Paddy’s ‘mistakes’ in split saying ‘the trust was broken’
The star admitted Christine’s decision to join the show after her public split was a “brave” move, and it equally took courage for her exit the process after discovering it “wasn’t the right time” for her.
Anna explained: “It wasn’t the right time for Christine to continue her journey in the agency.
“I think this is the absolute beauty of what the Celebrity Dating agency does – yes it’s a TV show, but it’s also real.”
Anna added: “She realised that perhaps this actually wasn’t quite the right time for her to be doing that and took a great deal of confidence and bravery inside to recognise and actually now is not the right time.”

In a statement, she said at the time: “I joined Celebs Go Dating with great intentions but have realised that dating on a public platform and the attention that brings is just too soon for me.
“They’ve said the door is always open for me, which I’m so grateful for, but for now I’m returning home to my family.”
Antiques Road Trip star Angus Ashworth has recalled a heartwarming moment in his career
Antiques Road Trip star Angus Ashworth left a guest “in tears” with a valuation after his wife’s cancer battle.
The BBC antiques expert and auctioneer, who currently appears on The Yorkshire Auction House, admitted that emotions often run high when dealing with the estate of a loved one who has passed away.
In an exclusive chat with the Express, Angus shared some touching experiences with owners of antiques.
He explained that while he often witnesses “incredible” reactions, there have been those who are “just in it for the money” over the years.
Angus revealed: “We’ve had a lot of good reactions. It’s usually people that are not doing it for the money. They’re doing it because they’ve got to clear the house, so they’ve never really considered the value. It’s just part of the process, then all of a sudden you tell them they’ve made £10,000.
“There’s been several like that where they’re absolutely speechless. We’ve had some incredible reactions. People genuinely do break down into tears,” reports the Express.
Angus Ashworth left one client in tears(Image: BBC)
“On the telly, a chap’s wife was badly ill [with cancer] and he wanted to raise enough money to get a second-hand stairlift put in to help her mobility.
“He was hoping to raise £2,000 because that’s what he needed for the stairlift and we made him £9,000. He just couldn’t comprehend it.”
The TV auctioneer went on: “You’ve always got to be mindful when you step into a house. You’ve got to read the room, and read the client. Everybody’s situation is different – some of them, it’s very straightforward and businesslike.
“But what you’ve got to remember is even if something is not saleable, and doesn’t have a commercial value, it has a sentimental value. I’ve always gone by the mantra that whenever you talk about something, you’ve got to remember it belonged to somebody’s late father, mother, brother.
“That might be their prize item. You can be enthusiastic about something, just because it’s not [worth much commercially]. There’s a lot of empathy that’s got to be given, put yourself in their shoes.”
Angus is known for appearing on Antiques Road Trip(Image: BBC)
He added: “I suppose that’s partly why people get us in – because we can take a non-attached approach to it, we can just do the job. But there are odd stories you get where you go, ‘Ugh, that’s tough’.”
Angus then recalled meeting a woman who was moving to Spain to start a new life after her son had died.
“I’d not long had children at that point and I was [holding back tears]. Every once in a while you’re just… taken aback,” he said.
Angus further shared: “A slightly different one that hasn’t aired yet was a military veteran who was badly injured and suffered very badly with PTSD, and we were the first people he’d let in his house for 15 years. That was a different sort of emotional.
“He got us because we’ve got the military connection and he felt he could let us in – that was a massive step for him. It’s not always about people who are deceased. It’s a unique job.”
He concluded: “Then you get clients where it’s all about the money and they’re there to the penny, saying ‘You didn’t quite get what we were thinking’. Auctions are like that – some things will do better than expected, some things will do worse.”
Antiques Road Trip airs on BBC One and BBC Two. The Yorkshire Auction House is available to stream on Discovery+

She then said: “To the mum who posted this, I love you.”

Instead of wrestling her son Max to close his eyes so she could apply the spray sun cream to his face, the youngster instead put two spoons over his eyes.
Gemma was then able to spray his face with sun cream, without it getting in his eyes and causing any tears.
Moments after, the woman’s daughter then did the same, yet again ensuring a seamless application with no irritation of the eyes, whilst at the same time, making the often agonising process much more exciting.
Thrilled with her hack, Gemma later wrote: “It’s been a game changer.”
Clearly beaming with the simple trick, the mother added: “It’s made my day, I had the kids crying on holiday until we found this hack.”
Gemma’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @gemmamccartan, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 200,800 views.

Not only this, but it’s also amassed 2,074 likes and 138 comments.
Parents were impressed with the “genius” trick and many thought it was a “great” idea.
One person said: “What a brilliant idea.”
Another added: “That is genius.”
My son has allergies so this is amazing

Whilst a third commented: “Not only practical, it gives the kids a feeling of control over what’s about to happen, so they are more willing to cooperate. Great idea.”
Meanwhile, someone else gushed: “Best idea ever for sun cream.”
The importance of sun cream in your skincare routine
Dermatologist and skincare enthusiast Andrea Suarez – known as Dr Dray – revealed why you should wear suncream.
The one thing you can do that will make the biggest difference – and this matters for all ages – is protecting your skin from the sun, Andrea stressed.
“The vast majority of external aging is due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation,” she continued, not because you’re “not using some jazzy serum or layering 90 different things on your face everyday”.
“If you’re not doing in your 20s, get on that now.”
But she said the use of sun cream alone doesn’t go far enough. Andrea urged that you also wear sun-protective clothing like broad-brimmed hats and long sleeves, on top of not staying out too long in the sun.
Doing this over your lifetime – and all year, not just during the summer or on sunny days – “will reduce the visible signs of photoageing”, Andrea said.
Those are wrinkles, muddled pigmentation and sagging skin.
However, at the same time, one user wrote: “Should have cream on eyelids too as they can burn, I know it stings if it gets in eyes but it’s such a sensitive area so best to have full coverage.”
To this, Gemma wrote back and explained: “Yes but my son has allergies so this is amazing.”
Not only this, but another person asked: “Won’t they get a burnt line where the handles are?”
In response, Gemma confirmed that instead of spraying the sun cream on her youngster’s eyelids, after the fun part, she then uses her finger for a more controlled application, as she acknowledged: “I use my finger to do the sides and lids.”

A Great British Sewing Bee contestant broke down in tears after judges hailed his “beautiful” creation, which carried a poignant connection to his late mum.
Judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young set the sewers a challenge this week to craft garments using reused and recycled materials, with many contestants bringing along old family clothing.
Durham-based stitcher Dan, who started sewing aged just 10, gathered a collection of matching Christmas t-shirts his family had worn in 2022.
His plan was to transform them into a single halter-neck dress, complete with a faux-fur muff.
Discussing the accessory, he revealed: “This was a shawl that I made for my mum that she only wore once, unfortunately she passed away,” reports Wales Online.

“So I thought it’d be really nice to have her touch.”
When his finished creation was unveiled, Dan’s garment was described as “beautiful” and he even claimed Garment of the Week honours.
“I’m glad I did this, because I wanted my mum to be represented,” he wept.
He later reflected: “This week has been insane, I can’t believe all the good comments they said.

“It was really nice they got my vision and knew where I was going with it, especially this one in particular, it was really personal to me.”
Patrick also lauded Dan’s finished piece, declaring: “It’s absolutely stunning and such a beautiful story behind it.
“The perfect way to go from an unwanted pile of old pyjamas into this beautiful, beautiful outfit.”
Following his victory, Dan said: “I’ve just got to trust my instincts and go with it. I’m glad that I did it on this week, where it was something so personal.”

Another viewer expressed: “Really pleased for Dan,” while another added: “Definitely want to give Dan a huge cuddle.”
“Dan smashed it this week!” a fourth fan praised, while another admirer commented: “Well done Dan, that looked really good.”

Emotions were at an all-time high during Tuesday’s instalment of This Morning.
During the ITV show, viewers saw Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary speak to one dad whose son has suffered severe burns.
At the time, nine-year-old William Tyler ran across boiling hot sand, which had still been scorching from a disposable barbecue.
As a result, William needed multiple surgeries on his burns. During the show, his father, Toby, was overcome with emotion as he recalled hearing his son in pain.
Alison said, “So, you’re having a lovely time. You’re there with your wife Claire, your daughter Lily, and William, having a lovely time on the beach. Then the two kids go off, have a little run, and the next thing you hear is your son William, screaming.”

He said: “Yeah, that was a-“, Toby started to choke up with emotion as he recalled the horrific moment.
Realising his struggle, Alison commented: “Oh, I’m so sorry.”
Toby added: “It was a really hard point because it was so out of the blue, and it’s something that doesn’t go away. They were literally just playing, and his feet sank into sand where the barbeque had been several hours before.
“We were clueless about what had happened. We thought’ he’d trodden on something sharp, so it took a minute to work out what had happened.”

Alison told viewers the sand was still extremely hot, despite it being hours after the barbecue had been moved.
He added: “As soon as he comes out, you could see his foot basically stripped of the skin. I think that was the difficult thing. It looked extraordinary.
“We couldn’t work out what he’d done, we thought something had pierced it to take the skin off, there was no blood. Literally, the skin had died across his foot straight away.”
With their car far away, Toby had to carry his son on his shoulders as he recalled William being in ‘extraordinary pain’.

Praising his son, Toby added: “He was incredible really, just managing to sustain things whilst we got him to hospital.”
After William was given some pain relief, he had to be transferred to another hospital to a burns unit, where he spent nine days.
In the end, the child needed skin grafts to replace the skin on his feet.
