Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham make EFL Cup history

Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham will find out who they will play next when the fourth round draw is made at around 22:00 BST on Wednesday, following Arsenal’s televised third-round tie at Port Vale.

There are seven Premier League sides in the hat so far – Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Fulham and Wolves – along with Wycombe Wanderers, of League One, and League Two club Grimsby Town, who knocked out Manchester United in round two.

As well as the Arsenal tie, Manchester City are in action on Wednesday at Huddersfield Town, while Newcastle United host Bradford City and Tottenham Hotspur are at home to Doncaster Rovers.

There is a decent chance, therefore, that Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham could face heavyweight opposition as they look to reach the quarter-finals.

There is also the possibility, of course, of a Carabao Cup Welsh derby.

Adam Idah: Premier League ‘the big aim’ for Swansea City

Swansea claimed their most memorable cup triumph in recent memory against Forest, coming back from 2-0 down to shock the Premier League club thanks to two goals in stoppage time.

Alan Sheehan’s side had no time to celebrate, however, with a tricky league trip to Birmingham City to come on Saturday (12:30 BST).

The likelihood is that Idah will be back among the substitutes at St Andrew’s given the form of Zan Vipotnik, who came off the bench against Forest to score his fifth goal in his past five Swansea appearances.

“That’s the best problem to have,” Idah said.

“Zan has been in fine form and hopefully that continues.

“We all want to get to the Premier League and we are all in it together. I think the competition we have in every position is brilliant. If we are all pushing each other, that’s a good start.”

Nottingham Forest got too ‘comfortable’ in shock EFL Cup loss at Swansea, says Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou says his Nottingham Forest players got too “comfortable” after Championship side Swansea scored twice in stoppage time to knock them out of the Carabao Cup.

Two first-half goals from Igor Jesus had put the Premier League side firmly in control of their third-round tie.

However, a Cameron Burgess goal gave the Swans hope and, in a stunning finale, Zan Vipotnik levelled before Australia international Burgess scored his second to send the 2013 winners into the last 16.

“We had to finish them off and we had plenty of opportunities to do that, and a couple of decisions didn’t go our way,” said Forest boss Postecoglou.

“I think the lads got a bit comfortable in that moment and you’ve got to know the warning signs.

“Players just thought it would naturally finish that way and we’ve paid a heavy price for that. We need to improve.”

The former Spurs boss had promised this would be the night fans started to see his imprint on the side he inherited from Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground.

Instead, Forest conceded three for a second game in a row under Postecoglou, who added: “Tonight was a great opportunity for us to progress in a cup and give ourselves an opportunity to that success – and to let it slip is hugely disappointing.

“But it doesn’t change anything – we understand some of the things we have to work on.”

Kaelan Casey: Swansea City close in on West Ham United defender

Swansea City are closing in on the loan signing of West Ham United defender Kaelan Casey.

The 20-year-old Hammers academy product has made two substitute appearances in the Premier League, but will head out on loan in search of first-team experience.

Casey could well make his Swansea debut in their Championship opener at Middlesbrough next Saturday, with Alan Sheehan short of options as things stand.

Club captain Ben Cabango is doubtful for the Boro trip having been troubled by a calf injury during pre-season.

Fellow centre-back Ricardo Santos is also sidelined by injury, as is youngster Filip Lissah.

Cameron Burgess, another of Swansea’s summer recruits, is Sheehan’s only fit senior centre-back at present, with under-21 player Arthur Parker and midfielder Jay Fulton used at the heart of defence at times during pre-season.

Swansea are still looking for a number of new signings following a raft of summer departures, with a striker another top priority following the exits of Jerry Yates and Florian Bianchini last week.

Snoop Dogg: Why Swansea City and what next as he joins Luka Modric in south Wales?

Three months after Luka Modric’s surprise arrival has come the even more eye-catching news that Snoop Dogg is joining the Croatia legend as an investor and co-owner at Swansea City.

Which celebrity will be coming to our club next, Swansea fans might now be forgiven for wondering.

In the current climate, where clubs must find new ways to generate income and stars seem to be attracted to football, they probably should not rule anyone out.

Even if there are no more new faces, Swansea now have their share of glitz in the boardroom, where there was a major change last November following a takeover led by American businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.

We wait to see how much involvement Modric – who is known to have spoken to Swansea transfer targets in recent months – and Snoop Dogg – who, as far as we know, has not – will have in the running of the Welsh club.

One conversation that has taken place already was between Modric and Snoop Dogg, with the duo discussing the latter’s potential involvement at Swansea before the deal was finalised.

Snoop Dogg, meanwhile, is understood to be planning a trip to the Swansea.com Stadium to watch a game.

Swansea believe the big names mean a better chance to achieve big things, which in their case means a return to the Premier League.

Should they make it, maybe Snoop Dogg will lead a singsong – Swansea’s answer to the Anfield Rap, perhaps – on the open-top bus parade.

He would surely savour a promotion party given his love of sport.

Here BBC Sport looks at Snoop Dogg’s sporting background and wonders what influence he might have on a Championship club from south west Wales.

Harry Darling: Norwich City sign defender after Swansea exit

Norwich City have signed defender Harry Darling after he rejected a new deal offered by Championship rivals Swansea City.

The 25-year-old, who began his career at Cambridge United, has agreed a three-year deal at Carrow Road with the option of a further 12 months.

He is the second signing by the Canaries since the appointment of new head coach Liam Manning, following goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw.

Darling spent three seasons with Swansea, making 112 appearances in all competitions and scoring 12 goals.

He said: “I’m delighted, it’s been a long time coming after a lot of conversations. I’m happy to finally get it sorted and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“Liam being in charge, I worked with him before at MK Dons so I didn’t need convincing too much about the style of play. I really enjoyed it last time working with him.”

Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to get this deal over the line. There was of course big competition for Harry’s signature, so we’re delighted to secure his services.”

Earlier, in a post on X, Darling told Swansea fans he was leaving with a “heavy heart”.

He added: “As I move on to the next chapter of my career, I will always reflect warmly on my time as a Jack, and I thank you for your support in good times and bad over these last few years.”
