Hoda Kotb shares one real reason that she left ‘Today’

Will Hoda Kotb replace Kelly Clarkson as a talk-show host, giving rise to “Hoda in the Afternoon”? The retired morning-show anchor quickly shut down that rumor Wednesday when she popped back up on “Today” for the first time since her January departure from the show.

“Do y’all think — I want to ask y’all a real question — do you think, if I ever came back to TV, do you know where the only place I would ever come back to is?” Kotb asked her former colleagues after replacement co-host Craig Melvin inquired about that rumor. “Right here. This is the spot.”

“Delete, not true,” she said of the Clarkson rumor.

Something that is true? Kotb revealed that she left “Today” in part to take care of 6-year-old daughter Hope, who was diagnosed about two years ago with Type 1 diabetes. Previously known as juvenile diabetes because it’s most often diagnosed in childhood, the autoimmune disorder can occur in adults as well.

Hope’s health issues arose more than two years ago, she said. Now the child has to use synthetic insulin regularly to stay well, since her condition prevents insulin production by her pancreas.

“As anyone with a child who has Type 1 [knows], especially a little kid, you’re constantly watching, you’re constantly monitoring, you’re constantly checking, which is what I did all the time when I was [at ‘Today’],” she told Melvin and Savannah Guthrie. “You’re distracted.”

Hope, however, is just like “every other kid” except for about five minute at breakfast, lunch, dinner and sometimes overnight, Kotb said.

But being there for her daughter had become nonnegotiable, she told People in a story published Wednesday, so “Today” had to become part of yesterday. No more alarms going off at 3:15 a.m. every morning.

Now she sleeps in until 4:30 a.m. She also just launched a new wellness venture, Joy 101. But her children remain her focus.

“I really wanted to and needed to be here to watch over [Hope]. So, whenever she needs anything, and it can happen at night, multiple times, I’m up — I’m up up up,” she said.

“But I would never, ever want Hope to one day grow up and say, ‘Oh, my mom left her job because [of me].’ It wasn’t that alone. But if you look at it cumulatively, it was a part of that decision.”

Kotb, 60, and ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman adopted Hope in 2019 and sister Haley in 2017. The couple split up in 2022 but remain friends and co-parents.

Hope, Kotb told People, “is a happy, healthy, rambunctious, amazing kid, and we have to watch her. Diabetes is a part of her, but not all of her. I hope it shapes her but never defines her.”

Expert shares five ‘vital safety measures’ to protect yourself from new holiday phone hacking surge

Holidaymakers have been warned against a new ‘hacking’ crime which is particularly rife during the summer months – and can lead to theft ‘within minutes’

The festive season may be in full swing, but it’s also a prime time for scammers to strike, particularly targeting travellers and commuters when they’re distracted.

Con artists are using a particularly sneaky tactic: swiping mobile phones and then convincing network providers to switch the number to a new SIM card they control, allowing them to intercept vital calls and texts, including one-time passcodes used for two-factor authentication. This gives them unparalleled access to everything from bank accounts to cryptocurrency wallets.

Ryan Sweetnam, Director of Crypto Fraud and Financial Litigation at CEL Solicitors, raised the alarm, saying: “SIM swap fraud is one of the fastest-growing cyber threats we’re seeing, particularly affecting people when they’re more relaxed.

“This can be whilst you’re walking around town, to the tube, bus or just along the street, or even when you’re on holiday, be it in the UK or abroad.”

READ MORE: Man, 23, took own life after £10k scam left him ‘stressed and embarrassed’READ MORE: Drug gangs ‘grooming’ young Brits with proven tactic as they flock to ‘booming’ Golden Triangle

He added: “Once a scammer has your phone they can potentially access your banking and crypto accounts within minutes.

“Holidaymakers are often easy targets, with many admitting they don’t regularly monitor their financial accounts while overseas. That, coupled with the use of unsecured public Wi-Fi and international roaming, creates the ideal conditions for these high-tech thieves,” he said.

Mr Sweetnam issued a stark warning about the silent nature of financial crime, cautioning: “The real danger is that people don’t always notice what’s happened until it’s too late.

“You might not see missing funds for hours or even days, giving criminals a huge head start.”, reports the Express.

He further highlighted the risks associated with modern technology, stating: “Even those who have their phones stolen out of their hands will quickly report the theft to law enforcement or their banks, but with the growing number of people with access to stocks, shares and cryptocurrencies on their phones, this is often forgotten until it’s too late.”

In response to these dangers, specialists at CEL Solicitors are calling on Britons to adopt a set of five vital safety measures to safeguard against such crimes:

  • Beware of unsolicited requests for information: Never share personal data such as your date of birth, address or account details in response to texts, emails or phone calls—even if they appear to be from your bank or mobile provider.
  • Ditch SMS authentication: Opt for app-based two-factor authentication instead. Unlike SMS, these apps don’t rely on your phone number, making them far more secure.
  • Keep tabs on your accounts while abroad: Regularly check your banking and crypto platforms for any suspicious activity.
  • Strengthen your digital defences: Use robust, unique passwords and consider a password manager. Also, update your security questions to make them harder to guess.
  • Act fast if your phone loses signal unexpectedly: This could be an early sign your number has been transferred without your knowledge. Contact your mobile provider and bank immediately.

With cybercriminals becoming increasingly cunning, Mr Sweetnam says vigilance is vital—especially during the holiday season:

“Staying informed, especially when you’re out of your usual routine, is essential. Fraud can happen to anyone but preparation can make all the difference.”

Good Morning Britain paused as Susanna Reid shares ‘devastating’ Liverpool update

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid shared an update after a car ploughed into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid delivered “horrific” breaking news on Tuesday (May 27).

At the top of the programme, Susanna reported that four children were among those injured at yesterday’s Liverpool FC parade.

A man, aged 53, has been taken into custody following an incident where a car struck several pedestrians in Liverpool city centre during the Premier League victory parade.

Eyewitness accounts and videos circulating on social media depict the vehicle ploughing through a crowd, causing people to flee the scene.

The police have stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related and appears to be an isolated event, reports Bristol Live.

“Our breaking news this morning is that we now know that four children were among the dozens injured yesterday as a people carrier was driven into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade,” Susanna began.

Good Morning Britain
Susanna Reid announced breaking news minutes into Tuesday’s (May 27) show

“Firefighters had to lift up the vehicle to rescue a child, who was among four people trapped underneath it.”

Ed Balls chimed in: “The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the city’s unity, saying Liverpool stands together and the whole country stands with Liverpool.”

Chief correspondent Richard Gaisford was reporting live from Liverpool, while Nitya Rajan was stationed outside Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Before airing a pre-recorded segment, Richard issued a cautionary note to viewers. Following this, Nitya provided details about the injuries sustained in the incident.

“One child out of the four that were injured has sustained serious injuries,” she confirmed.

Back in the studio, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls discussed the heart-wrenching impact of the incident on the community.

Good Morning Britain
A car ploughed into a crowd at the Liverpool FC parade on Monday

“Devastating scenes there. Of course, everyone thought that they were celebrating something joyful,” Susanna said.

“This parade was miles long, and initially people would not have realised what happened in Water Street if they had already drifted off in other directions.

“Obviously, your heart goes out to everyone injured, those who saw what happened, people would have been really devastated witnessing that, but everyone else in the parade thinking it was one of the best days of their life, and all that’s come over that now is just awful.”

Ed added: “It’s so particularly upsetting for this to happen in Liverpool. They were denied a parade during the pandemic when they won the league. Liverpool has faced such terrible football hardship over the years.

“For this to happen again and on the day when they’re celebrating such a dramatically brilliant win in the Premier League is really unfair. It’s terrible.”

Liam Payne’s grieving girlfriend Kate Cassidy shares ‘sign’ from One Direction star

LIAM Payne’s grieving girlfriend Kate Cassidy has shared a ‘sign’ from the tragic star.

The One Direction star died in October last year at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

Influencer Kate, 25, had been dating Liam, 31, for two years when he died.

She had been with him in Argentina until two days before his death.

Seven months on from that tragic day, Kate has discovered a previous social media tribute to the singer, has been shared 4,444 times.

It is very similar to the 4:44 figure adopted by Liam and Kate as their ‘angel number’ prior to his sudden death.

Drawing attention to her shares and their likeness to the angel number on Instagram, Kate, 26, said: “Hi Liam.”

In numerology, 444 is a sign that the ‘angels are with you’ and are ‘there to guide you step by step’.

The way the figures are formed means they represent stability and a reassurance that you are not alone.

Following his death, Kate added ‘444’ to her emotional tribute to her ‘angel’ boyfriend and shared a snap of a note where Liam had written the numbers.

It showed the former One Direction band-member’s fascination with ‘angel numbers’ and ‘manifesting’.

Kate revealed that she and Payne had been ‘manifesting their lives together’ – which was heavily associated with the number 444.

Numerology expert Sunny Dawn Johnston told Glamour: ‘When you see these numbers, know deep within that the angels are speaking to you, guiding and supporting you.

‘It’s a blessing to be in such direct communication with the divine.’

Only a few days ago, heartbroken Kate shared a snap a sweet unseen snap of the singer taken before his sad death.

Although you couldn’t see their faces, Liam’s distinctive eagle tattoo could be seen on his hand.

Liam Payne’s sad death

On October 16, 2024, Liam Payne sadly died, leaving family, friends and fans devastated.

Here we take you through the biggest stories to unfold since his tragic passing:

The grieving girlfriend often posts sweet pictures of her beloved Liam, as she tries to come to terms with his death.

Just over a week ago, she shared a slew of snaps from their last holiday together.

Kate has had an incredibly tough time, following Liam’s shock death.

In March, she discussed how she was finding life and dealing with the pain of such an enormous loss.

Speaking to ITV‘s Lorraine, she said: “I’m going through this healing journey, sometimes it’s hard for me to get out of bed in the morning and something I don’t want to do.”

Kate had been staying with Liam in Argentina but flew back to America before his fatal accident.

In an interview with The Sun last month she revealed his death “still doesn’t feel fully real”.

She added: “Love is so optimistic, and you just hope that everything will work out at the end.

“Obviously if I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”

Strictly’s Wynne Evans shares what he really said at photocall and Janette’s surprising response

Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans hits back at claims he made a sexual slur against his co-star Janette Manrara, which happened when Wynne was standing in the middle of a line-up of the entire cast in Birmingham

Wynne Evans has opened up about 'what he really said' to Strictly Come Dancing's Janette Manrara

Wynne Evans has opened up about ‘what he really said’ to Strictly Come Dancing‘s Janette Manrara after he was ‘forced’ to apoplgise for the sexual slur – which he now claims was the farthest thing from what he actually meant it to be. The opera singer, 53, best known for his Go Compare adverts, was caught on camera in January making a vile “spit roast” remark towards a co-star.

The footage, which was released in January, shows Wynne standing in the middle of a line-up of the entire cast in Birmingham as Janette, who is the host of the BBC spin-off show It Takes Two, is asked to join them.

Wynne was recorded making an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette Manrara, who acts as host on the tour, when she walked over to the group. He sang out: “Go Compare,” before adding: “Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick].” He then used the hugely demeaning term “spit roast” in reference to a lewd sexual act.

At the time, Evans said in a statement to the Mirror: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.” He was seen with the tour cast as they turned up to Liverpool after having to pull out of the Glasgow shows due to an injury. However, he later pulled from the tour entirely.

However, Wynne has denied making the comments caught on camera. After issuing an apology at the time, the opera singer has now revealed what he actually meant by saying the words ‘spit-roast’, claiming it was a nickname for his fellow Strictly star and EastEnders actor, Jamie. Wynne told The Sun in a new interview: “I didn’t see the statement. Old Spit-roast Boy was a nickname for Jamie Borthwick. I’m not a bad guy, I’m not a misogynist, I’m not any of these things.”

Wynne now insists his mistakes on the show were simply light-hearted pranks which completely backfired on him, leading to his career taking a massive plunge. The Strictly star has also revealed that he suffered a dreadful mental health collapse after his axe from the show, admitting that he was on even 24/7 suicide watch by an NHS crisis team.

“I would be the first to apologise if I had used it in the double meaning of that word,” Wynne told the publication. But it absolutely wasn’t meant sexually – and the fact I used ‘boy’, all right it’s nuanced, but it shows I was talking to Jamie, NOT Janette.

“Anyway two weeks after that photocall, I was sat in this hotel room and I start to get these calls saying, ‘You have used a term that is really offensive’. And then I’ve got my team ringing me, I’ve got the Strictly team ringing me, I’ve got the tour team ringing me.”

Wynne went on to claim that he didn’t see the press statement that was published on his behalf, and was left blindsided by it. “Of course, your natural reaction is, if you’re told you’ve offended someone, you say, ‘God, I’m so sorry’. And so I went, ‘I’m so sorry’. And that was taken as a formal apology, so the press team issued a statement. I didn’t see it,” he said.

The Strictly star has revealed what he really said in the footage

“When I read the apology within the context of the story as it had been written, I was absolutely horrified. And I was embarrassed and I was ashamed of myself. Because the apology always makes it look worse.

“It validates the story. It’s been a truly awful past few months, having to keep my counsel and let the narrative that I’m some sort of weirdo run. I’m not a misogynist, I’m not any of these things.” The statement which was released on his behalf at the time read: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.”

The broadcaster has launched an investigation into his behaviour and the conclusion is believed to be revealed in a couple of weeks. A BBC spokesperson also previously confirmed they had spoken to Wynne and stated they “do not tolerate such behaviour.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the live tour said: “We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.”

Former cabin crew shares why passengers should never eat unsealed food on planes

A former Caledonian Airways cabin crew member has shared her advice on what foods to avoid on-board and explains why a more expensive travel class may not mean a better meal

Many airlines have been striving to improve the poor reputation of in-flight food by expanding their menus. But one former cabin crew member says there are some foods you should still avoid.

Charlotte Crocker spent 12 years working as cabin crew on long-haul flights for airlines including Thomas Cook, Astraeus and Caledonian Airways. Speaking to Metro, Crocker shared what in-flight food you should avoid, and explained why the meals are so salty.

When it comes to food worth avoiding, the ex-air hostess shared that passengers should avoid any food (fruit and salad in particular) that isn’t served in a sealed packet. “Cabin crew are trying their best, but it gets very busy in the galley during catering, sometimes lids get dropped and salad doesn’t always get washed,” explains Crocker.

Though she emphasises that you are unlikely to get food poisoning on a flight and that travellers just need to use “common sense” when it comes to what they’re eating. She also shared that she avoids drinking alcohol on planes.

“Personally, I don’t drink alcohol on planes as it’s very dehydrating. I also try to stay away from anything fizzy as well as food that’s too salty or spicy because it causes bloating and nobody wants to be unwell on a plane.”

Crocker explains there is a reason in-flight meals are typically salty(Image: Getty Images/EyeEm)

You may have noticed that the food choices in the cabin are not known to be particularly healthy, and tend to be quite salty. She added: “It’s difficult to have healthy food at 35,000 feet” and there is a reason it’s usually sodium-heavy.

“Our bodies are functioning differently at that [high] altitude, so our tastes change and the food becomes bland, so we end up having to put lots of salt and seasoning on the meals to make it taste better,” she explained.

She also says that if you are looking for quality food, you’ll probably need to upgrade your seat. “If you’re in economy, the frozen meals are not the greatest quality and that’s because of the budget – if you want really cheap flights, you’re not going to be able to have the type of food that you get in first-class, which is of a much higher standard.”

Food served on board of business class airplane on the table.
While first-class meals may be more lavish, Crocker says that the first-class ovens “aren’t actually any different” from those in the other cabins(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

That said, the ex-cabin crew member admits it’s difficult to produce decent meals when you don’t have a proper kitchen on-board, which affects all classes of passengers. “The galley in first-class is lovely but the ovens aren’t actually any different to the ones down the back of the plane.”

Crocker says that the best meal to eat on a flight is actually the one you bring yourself. While she and her fellow crew used to “polish off whatever passengers didn’t want” this didn’t leave her feeling great.

“There’s too much fat and salt in the meals and snacks – I would end up feeling absolutely horrendous,” she said. “I had to reprogram myself and start taking my own food on flights. It’s a complete pain to have to do meal prep, but it makes such a difference and I recommend giving it a try as it’s so much better for you.”

Each airline has specific guidelines on what food and how much you can bring into the cabin, so you will need to familiarise yourself with these regulations before flying. Crocker says she usually opts for “packet soups, tea bags, oatcakes and instant porridge pots” – though keep in mind some crew members warn against drinking the hot water on planes.

US Steel shares soar on Trump’s apparent blessing for deal with Nippon | Business and Economy News

Investors interpreted Trump’s comments to mean Nippon Steel had received his approval for its takeover of US Steel.

United States President Donald Trump has expressed support for Nippon Steel’s $14.9bn bid for US Steel, saying their “planned partnership” would create jobs and help the US economy.

Shares of US Steel soared 21 percent on Friday after Trump’s comments as investors interpreted the president’s post on Truth Social to mean Nippon Steel had received his approval for its long-planned takeover, the last major hurdle for the deal.

“This will be a planned partnership between United States Steel and Nippon Steel, which will create at least 70,000 jobs, and add $14 Billion Dollars to the US Economy,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Friday.

This week, the Reuters news agency reported that Nippon Steel has said if the merger is approved, it would invest $14bn into US Steel’s operations, including up to $4bn in a new steel mill.

Trump added that the bulk of that investment would occur in the next 14 months and said he would hold a rally at US Steel in Pittsburgh next Friday.

Nippon Steel said it applauded Trump’s decision to approve the “partnership”. The White House did not immediately reply to questions about the announcement.

US Steel share price kept rising after hours and reached $54, just shy of Nippon Steel’s $55-per-share offer price made in late 2023. While no details were released, investors expressed confidence that terms will be similar to those agreed in 2023. Investors said that eventually US Steel will no longer be publicly traded and they will receive a cash payout for their shares.

Politically controversial

The deal has been one of the most highly anticipated on Wall Street after it morphed into the political arena with fears that foreign ownership would mean job losses in Pennsylvania, where US Steel is based. It factored into last year’s election that saw Trump return to the White House.

Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick, who also called the deal a “partnership”, on Friday said it was a “huge victory for America and the US Steel Corporation”, that will protect more than 11,000 Pennsylvania jobs and support the creation of at least 14,000 more.

The last pieces of the deal came together surprisingly fast. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS), which reviews deals for national security risks, told the White House this week that the security risks can be addressed, Reuters reported, moving the final decision to Trump’s desk.

Following an earlier CFIUS-led review, former President Joe Biden blocked the deal in January on national security grounds.

The companies sued, arguing they did not receive a fair review process. The Biden White House rejected that view.

The companies argued Biden opposed the deal when he was running for re-election to win support from the United Steelworkers union in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. The Biden administration had defended the review as essential to protecting security, infrastructure and supply chains.

Trump also initially opposed the deal, arguing the company must be owned and operated in the US.

The United Steelworkers were against the deal as recently as Thursday when they urged Trump to block the deal despite the $14bn investment pledge from Trump.

For investors, including prominent hedge funds, the news spells relief after more than a year of waiting for a resolution. “There were huge high-fives all around today,” one recent investor said, adding, “We understood Donald Trump’s psyche and we played it to our advantage here.”

Investors said Trump appears to have won ground after the pledge for new investments was increased.

“This deal ensures that steelmaking will live on in Pittsburgh for generations,” another investor said.

Colson Smith has already lined up his next career move following his Coronation Street exit.

His character Craig Tinker was killed off on Wednesday night in highly emotional scenes. It follows Colson learning from bosses that he had been axed back in October.

But after processing the news and filming his final scenes, the star, who opened up on the “grief” like feelings of his departure, revealed all on what he was up to post-Corrie. While he did not go into detail, he confirmed there was something already in the pipeline.

While he didn’t specify what it was or whether it was TV or something else, he did confirm he was already working on something with other big plans ahead. He spilled: “There are irons in the fire, but I will do the typical showbizzy thing of just teasing.

“Everyone always thinks there’s nothing going on, but there actually is. So you know, I’ve got stuff going on. I’m excited. I’m going through the process still of winding down from having been somewhere for 14 years, but I’m excited to see what’s next, and hopefully I can find somewhere to go to work and have fun.”

On what he hopes to move onto next, Colson fancies himself as a presenter. He explained: “I make no secret that I want to be a presenter, that’s where my love and passion lies at the moment. Ever since starting on the sofa with Jack [P Shepherd] and Ben [Price] and doing bits of TV with the games and Big Brother.

“I enjoy being Colson, and I enjoy telling stories, and I enjoy holding a show and being direct down the lens to camera, but I also enjoy going to work.” Colson does hope to continue acting, but wants a role that isn’t the same as his Corrie alter ego.

He said: “I’m looking forward to playing a character that isn’t Craig like I’m looking forward to getting back into acting and comedy acting, and really being a character and developing something. After 14 years of the same thing, you kind of have a taste for something else.”

Colson shared that while he didn’t necessarily feel like he was grieving for is Corrie character, he did have “grief” in the sense of knowing no other job that comes his way will be the same as his experience on the ITV soap.

He explained: “I feel like I will miss Corrie, like I do miss Corrie. I miss going to work, I miss having a job, and I feel like I’m accepting of nothing will ever replace that.

“I can do anything in the rest of my career, the rest of my life, and I’m fully aware that I will never get what I have got from Coronation Street from anywhere else.

“That’s the thing that I’m going to ponder for. That’s the thing that I’m going to miss. I just know that it won’t be Corrie, it’s that bit. That’s my grief as such is that it’s not Corrie. That’s done, that’s over, that chapter’s shut.”

He said: “My dump from my final block as Craig Tinker on Coronation Street. Thank you for having me.” Colson gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at his final outing as Craig, where he showed off his naughty side.

In one snap, Colson could be seen on top of the Rovers Return as he perched out of the top window. He also tried to keep smiling while filming his death scene as he laid out on a crash mat.

Colson gave fans a sneaky look into the dressing room as he showed how he was covered in cuts and scars thanks to the makeup department.

Despite the harrowing scenes, the TV star managed to take selfies while covered in blood in-between shots, with one backstage and another on his hospital stretcher.

Colson even topped up his tan in his full police uniform while waiting for camera to get rolling on his murder scene.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, actor Colson shared his true thoughts on his axing and his exit plot. He also shared the shocked reaction of others when they found out his news.

Colson told us: “I think Craig dying, and Craig dying in the line of duty as a copper, that kind of hero’s death was by far the most perfect story for the exit. The last few weeks were mint, they were perfect and it was a really nice way to go out.

“I worked with great people, and I feel very lucky, and I felt very confident in everything that we did. I feel like the story worked.” Colson revealed the moment he figured out he had been dropped from the show, before soap boss Kate had even spoken to him.

He explained: “I knew that Craig had backed himself into a corner that was going to be really hard to get out of, so I fully expected the chat to go that way.”

Colson admitted he wanted Craig to be killed off and wouldn’t accept any other way of leaving. “I would want to die, I would want the door to be shut, so then I can kind of know in my head that Corrie has been this, Corrie has done that, and it is now done, and Craig’s journey is over,” he said. “So in a really weird way, it was the right thing for me to be killed.”

Good Morning Britain fans were left scratching their heads after Richard Arnold dropped some ‘special’ baby news on the show.

On Monday’s (May 20) episode of ITV’s popular morning programme, presenters Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid were joined by the showbiz guru, who hinted at having ‘special oinking news’ to share.

Richard announced: “I have some baby news for you, what a beautiful day it is today. Now, as you know, I’ve interviewed Hollywood stars, music icons, sporting legends but the nation has been gripped by my biggest ever exclusive chat with Mummy Pig, when she announced, if you remember, her pregnancy back in February.”

He added: “Over 60 million of you on TikTok have been following Mummy Pig and the rest of the pig family while they get ready to welcome their new addition. This was the interview where it all started.”

Revealing the big news, he said: “Since then, Mummy, Daddy and Baby Pig painted Battersea Power Station pink as they revealed the gender of their baby. Peppa and George will be welcoming a little sister and now, it brings me great joy to announce that she’s here!”, reports Bristol Live.

Susanna quickly chimed in with her congratulations, saying: “Aww, congratulations.”

Richard gushed: “It’s a beautiful thing, like I said, Daddy Pig has just shared these pictures with me of Peppa’s brand new baby sister Evie named after Mummy Pig’s Aunt Evie, she was born at 5:34am this morning, thankfully, just in time to watch her first ever Good Morning Britain.

“She’s certainly receiving the royal treatment so far with the town crier announcing her birth and a special plaque, how very royal, all the birthing details unveiled. Beautiful pictures here too, as you can see of the happy family.”

He continued: “Understandably, Mummy Pig is resting but Daddy Pig has let me know he will be free to catch up next week for his first ever TV interview and another glimpse of the new baby. You can find out when Peppa meets the baby this autumn.”

Another posted: “Am I having a fever dream? A whole segment about a cartoon pig? Is this what we’ve become? ! ! #Gmb.”

Vick, 35, shared a photo of her in an orange bikini and an oversized white shirt, with her bump peaking through.

The radio presenter and international DJ Calvin enjoyed a baby shower with her friends and family in Ibiza a few weeks ago.

Vick was also seen staring adoringly at her growing stomach while wearing a flowy turquoise green summer dress.

In another snap, the Strictly star opted for a patterned bikini top and a pair of blue shorts as she hit some balls on the court.

She flashed a big smile and held two racquets in her hand, which slightly covered her bump.

Vick captioned the post: “Touching grass lately: Friends, family, farmyard animals.”

Many fans were quick to share gushing messages of congratulations.

One wrote: “Looking fabulous. This era suits you.”

A second posted: “Beautiful mama to be.”

Calvin and Vick have a stunning 138-acre organic farm in Ibiza, known as Terra Masia.

The Spanish estate produces fruit, vegetables, eggs, and wine, and represents Harris’s shift from jet-set lifestyle to a more rural affair.

A source told The Sun in 2022: “Calvin employs an expert team, including farmers and chefs, but he’s also hands-on, regularly getting involved in planting and other farm activities. He’s truly passionate about the project.”

They also have a 10-acre estate in the Cotswolds, which Calvin purchased for £3.6m in 2019.

Over the last few years a bespoke new mansion has been built on the Oxfordshire site which will become the family’s primary residence.

Architect Ben Pentreath, a favourite of the royals, designed the property which will be completed this year.

A source told the Mail: ” There’s no expense spared and it’s going to be amazing.”

Vick shared her happy baby news live on Radio 1 today, telling Jamie Laing: “I should probably also say this is my final week before I go on maternity leave.”

Jamie told her: “You’re an amazing friend, an amazing person, and you’re just going to be an amazing mum,.”

She replied: “Oh, thank you.”

Vick and Calvin’s love story was a longtime coming, with its origins going back to 2007, when Calvin was in his ‘Acceptable in the ‘80s’ era.

He had a crush on BBC star Vick, but when he worked up the courage to ask her out, she rejected him.

She told You Magazine: “It’s something that we laughed about on our first proper date…

“We still laugh about it now.”

Vick later confessed on Capital Radio: “I went off with either Scouting for Girls or The Wombats. I don’t know which.

“I thought they were going to be bigger, but no, it turns out Calvin Harris was going to turn into an Adonis.”

Despite Calvin’s failed attempt at a date in the mid 2000s, he did eventually get the girl.

The couple made their first official outing at The Chelsea Flower Show in May 2022.

People couldn’t help but notice a sparkling diamond sitting on Vick’s ring finger – just five months after they got together.

They married in September 2023 at Hulne Priory, Alnwick, Northumberland

During the ceremony, the pair shared their personal vows and listened to poems.

Nile Rodgers and Chic kicked off the reception with Luther Vandross’ 1981 hit Never Too Much, which was followed by songs by MadonnaBeyoncéPharrell Williams and David Bowie.

Biden shares thanks for ‘love and support’ after prostate cancer diagnosis

May 19 (UPI) — Former President Joe Biden sent out a thank you Monday to those who have shown concern since it was announced that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“Cancer touches us all,” Biden posted to his social media outlets Monday, “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

A Biden spokesperson confirmed Sunday that he has an aggressive form of prostate cancer that was discovered Friday after he had experienced urination issues. It was also found that the disease has metastasized to his bones and was considered to have a Gleason score of nine, which is seen as a “high-grade” level of cancer that can spread quickly.

However, the cancer appears to be a hormone-sensitive type, which allows for efficient management.

Several current and former holders of public office have since sent well wishes to Biden, from both sides of the American political landscape.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” wrote President Donald Trump to Truth Social Sunday. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

“Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family,” posted former President Barack Obama to his social media Sunday. “Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.”

Then-Vice President Biden was the lead advocate of the “Cancer Moonshot” cancer cure initiative launched by the White House during the Obama administration and then re-launched it in 2022 as President.

“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis,” wrote former Vice President Kamala Harris Sunday. “We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter, and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership.”

“We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”

Cancer has directly impacted the Biden family before, as the former President’s son Beau Biden died at age 46 in 2015 from an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Victoria Beckham says ‘we love you so much’ as she shares family photo with son Brooklyn amid feud

VICTORIA Beckham has publicly sent her love to Brooklyn Beckham amid the family’s feud.

The 51-year-old Spice Girl and fashion designer has expressed her love for her eldest son despite rumours of a rift.

She said “we love you so much” alongside a snap of the family, with Brooklyn seen front and centre in the photograph.

In the snap, Brooklyn could be seen beaming beside his two brothers, his sister, and his grandparents.

Cruz was stood next to Romeo who was standing beside their grandma Jackie and their granddad, with Harper then standing as her brother Brooklyn put his arm around her.

“We both love you all so much,” she penned alongside the snap.

Victoria then tagged her mum Jackie Adams, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

This comes after Brooklyn and his wife Bates Motel actress Nicola Peltz were notable absentees from David Beckham‘s recent birthday bash – with whispers of a rift ramping up.

Brooklyn’s siblings Romeo, Cruz and Harper all turned out to party with their dad, mum, and famous names like Tom Cruise and Guy Ritchie.

Meanwhile, the eldest Beckham child and his wife were nowhere to be seen.

And since the snub, a rift between Brooklyn and his younger brother Romeo has been uncovered.

Romeo’s girlfriend is Kim Turnbull, who previously dated Brooklyn for a short while.

Romeo and his girlfriend Kim have kept things low-key since going public in November.

The Sun understands Nicola and Brooklyn had intended to be at David’s birthday bash but cancelled at short notice due to Kim being in attendance.

Brooklyn felt uncomfortable that his ex would be in attendance.

But the blame is being levelled at Nicola, which has upset Brooklyn, according to a source.

Posh and Becks’ plan to make Harper Beckham a star

David and Victoria Beckham are reportedly planning to help their daughter Harper become a star. The couple, who have already seen their sons Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz venture into the public eye, are said to be keen on guiding their youngest child into the limelight. Harper, who is 13 years old, has already shown a keen interest in fashion and beauty, much like her mother, Victoria.

Victoria, a former Spice Girl turned fashion designer, and David, an ex-footballer, believe that Harper has the potential to make a significant impact in the entertainment industry. They are allegedly exploring various opportunities for her, including social media ventures and brand collaborations. The Beckhams are known for their savvy business acumen and are reportedly ensuring that Harper’s foray into stardom is carefully managed.

The couple’s decision to support Harper’s ambitions comes as no surprise, considering their own successful careers and the prominence of their family in the media. With her parents’ guidance and the resources at their disposal, Harper could very well follow in their footsteps and carve out her own niche in the world of fashion and entertainment.

They said: “She has never told him what to do and has been nothing but supportive — she’s a loyal wife.”

Brooklyn and Nicola also missed an intimate evening earlier this month at the family’s £10million Cotswolds mansion.

The dinner was attended by VictoriaRomeoCruz, and his girlfriend Jackie.

Kim was absent, as were Brooklyn and Nicola.

Katie’s boyfriend rose to fame on Married At First Sight, where he was romantically involved with Ella Morgan, but the pair have since split.

Now, he’s shared a photo from hospital, and revealed a syringe in his arm.

The reality star leg and body were in shot, and he wrote over the snap: “Hate to see it.

“The reality of living with type 1 diabetes. Late nights in A&E.”

It was back in 2023 when JJ was diagnosed with the life-changing condition after losing almost two stone.

He was told how his body had “deteriorated” and that his “life would never be the same” due to the condition.

JJ’s weight dropped from 13.3 stone to 12 stone ahead of his medical emergency.

He said of his symptoms at the time: “I was waking up four to five times needing the toilet.

“Then I started to lose weight quite quickly. I lost about a stone and a half in three weeks, but I was still eating the same and going to the gym every day.”

Heartbroken Katie Price reveals she’s suffered a miscarriage at 46 after unexpectedly falling pregnant

He added: “I hadn’t changed anything, but my body was deteriorating so I knew something was wrong.

“I was getting lightheaded often, I was on the sofa watching TV and then stood up and fell to the floor… so, I knew something wasn’t right.

“I had a blood test and my doctor said I probably wouldn’t hear anything until after Christmas, but I woke up the following morning to three missed calls from 111 and voicemails saying ‘as soon as you wake up, go to hospital’ … I have never woken up so quickly.

“I panicked thinking it was the worst news.”

Katie Price’s love life

We take a look back at the highs and lows of Katie Price’s relationship history.

1996-1998: Katie got engaged to Gladiators star Warren Furman – aka Ace – with a £3,000 ring. But their relationship didn’t make it as far as ‘I do’.

1998-2000: Katie described Dane Bowers as ‘the love of her life’ but she broke up with the singer when he allegedly cheated on her.

2001: Footballer Dwight Yorke is the father of Katie’s eldest child Harvey. He has had very little to do with Harvey throughout his life.

2002: Rebounding from Dwight, Katie famously had one night of passion with Pop Idol star Gareth Gates, allegedly taking his virginity.

2002-2004: Katie was dating Scott Sullivan when she entered the jungle for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!. He threatened to “punch Peter’s lights out” when chemistry blossomed between her and Peter Andre.

2004-2009: The jungle romance resulted in Katie marrying Aussie pop star Peter. They had two kids, Junior and Princess, before their bitter split in 2009.

2010-2011: Fresh from her break-up with Peter, Katie enjoyed a whirlwind relationship and marriage with cage fighter Alex Reid. They split 20 months after their Las Vegas wedding.

2011: Katie briefly dated model Danny Cipriani… but it ended as quickly as it begun.

2011-2012: They didn’t speak the same language, but Katie got engaged to Argentinian model Leandro Penna in 2011. He later fled home to South America.

2012-2018: Wedding bells rang once more after Katie met Kieran Hayler in 2013. They had two kids together, Jett and Bunny, before their break-up and divorce.

2018-2019: Katie moved on quickly with Kris Boyson. They had an on-off romance for one year and even got engaged. They split for good in 2019.

2019: Katie was linked to Charles Drury during her on-off relationship with Kris. Charles, who also dated Lauren Goodger, has always denied being in “official relationship” with her.

2020-2023: Car salesman Carl Woods took a shining to Katie in 2020. Their relationship was up and down for three years. They broke up for a final time last year.

2024-present: After weeks of rumours, Katie confirmed her relationship with Married At First Sight star JJ Slater in February this year.

Since getting together with Katie, the couple have endured a rather rocky relationship.

Katie previously sparked concern the couple had parted ways after sharing a cryptic post about “trust”.

The ex-glamour model, who shot to fame as her alter-ego Jordan, has been engaged eight times and has previously had three husbands.

Woman shares ‘secret’ to travelling to the Maldives without spending a fortune

Tasha, who has been travelling the world for two years, recently visited the Maldives and was left amazed by the paradise islands – and how affordable they can be

Dhigurah, Maldives - March 24 2024: Aerial of a luxury resort in the south Ari Atoll in the Maldives

A savvy traveller has taken to TikTok to share how to enjoy the Maldives on a budget, proving that paradise doesn’t have to cost the earth.

Tasha, a seasoned explorer who’s been trotting the globe for two years, unveiled the truth about affordable Maldivian adventures, stating: “Why don’t more people know this about the Maldives? And that is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to visit here.”

Keen to share her knowledge, Tasha explained that swerving the costly private resorts in favour of cosier, more economical options is the key.

Reliving her visit to Dhigurah, one of the archipelago’s local islands, she called it “just the most beautiful island paradise surrounded by palm trees and blue water”.

This scenic bliss could slash your trip expenses by half since digs can be scooped up starting at just £50 per night – a fraction of the overwater villa prices often flaunted online.

Tasha divulged: “There are hundreds of local islands that you can choose from.”

She explained how public ferry transportation is a bargain at merely £1, and pointed out beachfront accommodation deals starting at around £50 per night; local fare can be found at about £5, while outings are pegged at £50, astonishingly less than resort equivalent excursions.

“I don’t know why more people aren’t discovering the local island of the Maldives, because this is the way you can discover paradise on a budget,” Tasha gushed enthusiastically.

She continued: “So next time you’re thinking of a tropical island getaway, forget Thailand, forget the Philippines, Maldives needs to be number one on your bucket list.”

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Tasha did point out some constraints when visiting local islands, like the requirement to dress modestly and avoid alcohol due to the Maldives being a predominantly Muslim nation with specific public decorum.

Opting for a private beach or island allows for a more laid-back vibe and lenient rules, but be warned – it comes with a heftier price tag.

Tasha’s insider info has struck a chord with other globetrotters; comments poured in with one travel enthusiast sharing, “I loved Dhigurah! So gorgeous,” and another chimed in, saying, “Dhigurah is the best place. I miss it so much!”.

One commenter expressed surprise: “I had no idea. Always wanted to go to the Maldives but thought it wouldn’t happen for a long time.”

While yet another grateful wanderer added: “Maldives is honestly so amazing, thanks so much for the tips.”

How to do Maldives on a budget

1. Go off peak – The Maldives’ off-season is from May to October, which overlaps with the monsoon season. Although you might experience occasional rain, you can enjoy significant discounts on flights, accommodations, and activities.

2. Stick to local islands – Instead of staying at luxurious private island resorts, opt for budget-friendly guesthouses or boutique hotels on inhabited local islands. Popular local islands for budget travellers are Maafushi, Dhigurah, Fulidhoo, Thoddoo, and Hulhumalé.

3. Take the ferry – The Maldives has a reliable ferry network connecting Malé (the capital) to local islands. Public ferries are incredibly affordable, costing as little as £1 per trip.

4. Eat like a local – Skip the pricey resort restaurants and eat at local cafés (called “hotaa”). Traditional meals cost around £5. Traditional Maldivian dishes include mas huni (tuna and coconut), fish curries, and roshi (flatbread).

5. Book affordable trips – Excursions (like snorkelling, diving, or sandbank trips) from resorts are usually quite expensive, but guesthouses on local islands offer budget-friendly packages starting at about £20-£50 per activity.

Trading bots are evolving: What happens when AI cheats the market?

Malevolent trading practices aren’t new. Struggles against insider trading, as well as different forms of market manipulation, represent a long-running battle for regulators.

In recent years — however — experts have been warning of new threats to our financial systems. Developments in AI mean that automated trading bots are not only smarter, but they’re more independent too. While basic algorithms respond to programmed commands, new bots are able to learn from experience, quickly synthesise vast amounts of information, and act autonomously when making trades.

According to academics, one risk scenario involves collaboration between AI bots. Just imagine: hundreds of AI-driven social media profiles begin to pop up online, weaving narratives about certain companies. The information spread isn’t necessarily fake, but may just be the amplification of existing news. In response, real social media users start to react, highlighting the bots’ chosen message.

As the market is tipped by the crafted narrative, one investor’s roboadvisor rakes in profits, having coordinated with the gossiping bots. Other investors, who didn’t have the insider information, lose out by badly timing the market. The problem is, the investor profiting may not even be aware of the scheme. This means that charges of market manipulation can’t necessarily be effective, even if authorities can see that a trader has benefitted from distortive practices.

Social platforms are changing trading

Alessio Azzutti, assistant professor in law & technology (FinTech) at the University of Glasgow, told Euronews that the above scenario is still a hypothesis — as there’s not enough evidence to prove it’s happening. Even so, he explains that similar, less sophisticated schemes are taking place, particularly in “crypto asset markets and decentralised finance markets”.

“Malicious actors… can be very active on social media platforms and messaging platforms such as Telegram, where they may encourage members to invest their money in DeFi or in a given crypto asset, to suit themselves,” Azzutti explained.

“We can observe the direct activity of human malicious actors but also those who deploy AI bots.”

He added that the agents spreading misinformation may not necessarily be very sophisticated, but they still have the power to “pollute chats through fake news to mislead retail investors”.

“And so the question is, if a layman, if a youngster on his own in his home office is able to achieve these types of manipulations, what are the limits for the bigger players to achieve the same effect, in even more sophisticated markets?”

The way that market information now spreads online, in a widespread, rapid, and uncoordinated fashion, is also fostering different types of trading. Retail investors are more likely to follow crazes, rather than relying on their own analysis, which can destabilise the market and potentially be exploited by AI bots.

The widely-cited GameStop saga is a good example of herd trading, when users on a Reddit forum decided to buy up stock in the video game company en masse. Big hedge funds were betting that the price would fall, and subsequently lost out when it skyrocketed. Many experts say this wasn’t a case of collusion as no official agreement was created.

A spokesperson from ESMA, the European Securities and Markets Authority, told Euronews that the potential for AI bots to manipulate markets and profit off the movements is “a realistic concern”, although they stressed that they don’t have “specific information or statistics on this already happening”.

“These risks are further intensified by the role of social media, which can act as a rapid transmission channel for false or misleading narratives that influence market dynamics. A key issue is the degree of human control over these systems, as traditional oversight mechanisms may be insufficient,” said the spokesperson.

ESMA highlighted that it was “actively monitoring” AI developments.

Is regulation ready?

One challenge for regulators is that collaboration between AI agents can’t be easily traced.

“They’re not sending emails, they’re not meeting with each other. They just learn over time the best strategy and so the traditional way to detect collusion doesn’t work with AI,” Itay Goldstein, professor of finance and economy at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, told Euronews.

“Regulation has to step up and find new strategies to deal with that,” he argued, adding that there is a lack of reliable data on exactly how traders are using AI.

Filippo Annunziata, professor of financial markets and banking legislation at Bocconi University, told Euronews that the current EU rules “shouldn’t be revised”, referring to the Regulation on Market Abuse (MAR) and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II (MiFID II).

Even so, he argued that “supervisors need to be equipped with more sophisticated tools for identifying possible market manipulation”.

He added:  “I even suggest that we ask people who develop AI tools for trading on markets and so on to include circuit breakers in these AI tools. This would force it to stop even before the risk of manipulation occurs.”

In terms of the current legal framework, there’s also the issue of responsibility when an AI agent acts in a malicious way, independent of human intent.

This is especially relevant in the case of so-called black box trading, where a bot executes trades without revealing its inner workings. To tackle this, Some experts believe that AI should be designed to be more transparent, so that regulators can understand the rationale behind decisions.

Another idea is to create new laws around liability, so that actors responsible for AI deployment could be held responsible for market manipulation. This could apply in cases where they didn’t intend to mislead investors.

“It’s a bit like the tortoise and the hare,” said Annunziata.

“Supervisors tend to be tortoises, but manipulators that use algorithms are hares, and it’s difficult to catch up with them.”

Former Eurovision Song Contest hopeful Katie Price has reflected on competing to represent the UK amid the 20th anniversary of her performance. The reality TV star was runner-up in the Making Your Mind Up selection contest.

Katie, now 46, was among the five finalists on the BBC show in 2005, which was used to decide who would represent the UK at Eurovision in Ukraine that year. She ended up placing second behind Javine Hylton, who went on to perform her song Touch My Fire in the international competition.

Podcast host Katie, who was pregnant with her son Junior Andre at the time, competed in Making Your Mind Up with the song Not Just Anybody. Her performance is said to have earned her a combined score of 101 points, which wasn’t enough to beat Javine, who had instead amassed 116 points.

She’s reflected on the experience ahead of watching the final of this year’s Eurovision in Switzerland on Saturday. She spoke about the contest on the latest episode of her podcast, the Katie Price Show, which was released today.

Katie told her sister Sophie Price: “For years and years, I always remember us always watching Eurovision and then I was up to do it.” She added that she will livestream herself watching the final with her partner JJ Slater and some pals.

Katie added: “I can’t wait for the Eurovision. I haven’t got any memories of Eurovision apart from when I was gonna represent the UK [in 2005] and they weren’t good memories.”

Sophie then asked her: “What was your song?” Singing part of the song that she had competed with, Katie replied: “I’m not just anybody …” Her sister reacted: “Oh god, that song!”

Katie continued by saying that although she “can sing,” she “couldn’t” sing Not Just Anybody back then or now. She said: “The thing is I couldn’t even sing the song then and I couldn’t sing it now, yet I can sing. But I still can’t sing that song.

“I hated it! The whole b***s*** about ‘oh you’re gonna get a Sony album but you have to do this song’ and then they found out I was pregnant and then I lost by one per cent.”

Katie went on to share that she “regrets” taking part in Making Your Mind Up two decades ago. She said on the newly-released episode: “It’s just all political stuff, as usual – but anyway, that’s always a regret of mine doing that.”

The I’m A Celebrity winner added in the discussion about the contest: “If there’s any regret of any job, it was me doing Eurovision in the pink rubber catsuit being seven months pregnant. Trying to hide the fact that I was pregnant.”

The Eurovision Song Contest 2025 final will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 8pm on Saturday night. The Katie Price Show is available on podcast platforms.

Travel expert shares ‘most important’ tip for never getting lost on holiday

Getting lost on holiday can be a nightmare, but one travel expert has shared his top tip so that is doesn’t happen to you

Ever found yourself hopelessly lost while on holiday? It can be a real dampener, especially if you’ve got plans. While stumbling upon hidden gems in a new city can be exciting, it’s not ideal when you’re racing against time to meet reservations.

This is why travel expert Neil Atkinson, the brains behind Luxury Group Stay, has revealed his number one trick for never losing your way – and it involves a bit of a throwback approach. Neil said: “Downloading an offline map of the area you’re travelling to is one of the most important travel hacks I always recommend. It’s completely free and can save you hours of stress, whether you’re exploring the Lake District or wandering through Barcelona.”

Having an offline map means even without data, you’re sorted. Just don’t forget to download the map while connected to the internet. Neil said: “I always tell people to do it before leaving home, or at least while still on hotel Wi-Fi.”

There are some drawbacks, although they’re small fry. Neil said: “You’ll only get driving directions when offline, not public transport routes, and you won’t see real-time traffic updates.”

The great news is offline maps are light on storage, so even for sprawling cities, you won’t need to fret over space, reports the Express.

Neil’s parting wisdom focuses on preparation: “Make sure to download a wider area than you think you’ll need. Better to have too much map than too little when you’re in the middle of nowhere!”.

To grab a map for offline use, just follow these steps:

Fire up your Google Maps app on your iPhone or Android

Hit your profile snap in the top right nook.

Choose “Offline maps” then “Select your own map”.

Tweak the blue square to blanket your intended spot.

Tap “Download” and you’re done.

Travel expert shares six things to do to avoid loneliness when on holiday

Travelling solo can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can also be lonely. Travel expert Will Sarson has shared his top tips for beating loneliness while travelling alone.

If you’ve ever ventured on a solo journey, you’ll know it’s an extraordinary adventure. Solo travel lets you set your own rhythm, immerse yourself in new cultures, and bond with the locals.

Yet, it can also pose its own set of challenges. Travelling on your own might sometimes lead to feelings of loneliness.

Will Sarson, Travel Expert at Riviera Travel, has shared his six essential tips for overcoming loneliness and maximising the enjoyment of your solo travel escapades. He advised: “Whether it’s friends or family you’re missing, it’s important to know what to do to navigate these feelings to get the most out of your trip.”

His primary advice is to have a plan full of activities – whether that’s a beach day or a guided excursion, reports the Express.

Will explained: “When enjoying a solo holiday, it’s important to plan ahead and arrange enjoyable activities to keep yourself engaged and avoid feelings of loneliness.”

“Smaller tour groups are often a better choice for solo travellers. Many holiday packages are designed with this in mind, ensuring those travelling alone don’t feel overwhelmed or lost in a crowd.”

It’s equally crucial not to shy away from engaging with locals or fellow travellers. Even though it may seem daunting, initiating a conversation is worthwhile – you never know what insights you might gain.

Will remarked: “Taking that first step can increase the chances of establishing strong connections and making lifelong friends.”

Chatting with individuals from diverse countries, backgrounds and cultures can widen your horizons. Solo travel is supposed to be enlightening, and striking up conversations with new people plays a key role in this experience.

Opting for a cruise or group tour tailored for solo voyagers ensures you’ll be among other lone adventurers, offering company when desired or the option to relish solitude.

The evening often poses the greatest challenge to evade feelings of loneliness – spending the day exploring might keep it at bay. To combat feeling down as dusk falls, carving out some quality relaxation time is crucial.

Getting engrossed in an absorbing book or podcast, or taking an evening stroll through the local neighbourhood can be perfect remedies.

Will emphasises: “I believe it’s extremely important to plan for the downtime in the evenings, to avoid long nights with nothing to do – which naturally increases boredom and loneliness.”

For those about to embark on a maiden solo journey and who may harbour some apprehension, Will suggests joining a dedicated tour for solo travellers. He advises: “These trips often include thoughtfully planned itineraries designed to keep solo travellers engaged and connected with others. For example, a welcome dinner on the first night gives travellers a chance to meet fellow solo travellers.”

Gone are the days when solo travellers had to make do with substandard lodgings, with many travel companies now offering spacious rooms or for those on cruises, double cabins that boast all the comforts one would expect on a group or family getaway.

If you find yourself still trying to stave off homesickness after booking a packed itinerary, taking some alone time, joining a tour, or attempting to forge new friendships, there’s no shame in reaching out back home. Will advises: “Checking in while abroad can give people a sense of comfort. Social media can be a great way of keeping in touch while on a solo trip while also allowing friends and family to know you’re safe.”

“It’s not often you get to enjoy a holiday on your own, so my best advice is to embrace it, learn from the experience and do your best to enjoy it! Solo travelling is a fulfilling experience that forces people to cultivate independence and enjoy their own space.”
