The three ice creams will be inspired by some of Britain’s favourite cakes, including a birthday cake flavour.
Aldi has described the birthday cake ice cream as having a “party in every tub”.
Every sponge-flavoured treat is slathered in sweet marshmallow and raspberry sauces before being finished with rainbow sprinkles.
The second new ice cream comes in a red velvet flavour, which has rich cocoa frosting and baked sponge pieces.
Aldi’s final new flavour is the Cherry Bakewell ice cream, which is infused with sweet-almond and covered in pastry flavoured ice cream.
All three ice cream flavours will hit the shelves on September 15th and, according to Aldi, they will sell for just £2.49.
The news comes after the brand confirmed its Christmas plans three months in advance.
Like many other retailers, Aldi will be closing its doors for three days over the festive period to give its hardworking staff some time off.
All 1000 of Aldi’s sites will close on Christmas Day before reopening on December 27.
The shop will close again on New Year’s Day.

Rebecca Heley, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “Christmas is a special time, and we want to ensure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to relax and enjoy it with their loved ones.
“That’s why all Aldi stores will be closed on Boxing Day this year.
“We know how hard colleagues work to deliver an amazing Christmas for our customers, and this is one small way of saying thank you.”
The supermarket chain has also announced that it is rolling out a huge change across all of its stores very soon.
Aldi will be stocking wines themed around autumn and winter from next week, after it was crowned Wine Supermarket of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards.
Sam Caporn, Aldi’s resident Master of Wine, said: “As summer fades, it’s time to uncork the flavours of autumn. Think medium-bodied reds for cosy evenings, or a tropical Stellenbosch Chardonnay alongside a Sunday roast.
“And here’s a secret – the Cigales Rosé isn’t just for summer. Its vibrant acidity makes it a surprisingly perfect partner for winter dishes too.”

A PENSIONER is having to sell her home to cover a £113,000 legal bill after losing a five-year dispute over a 1ft strip of land.
Jenny Field, 76, was told to pay £14,000 after her initial court defeat to Pauline Clark, 64, but her repeated challenges saw the total rocket.
A judge has now told her she must pay the resultant £113,126 in three months or flog her £600,000 bungalow in Hamworthy, Dorset, so the cash can be recouped.
The divorcee told a court: “I am selling it because I have to and I’m fed up with living here but I will offer to pay her £1 per week.”
Their feud began in 2020 after Mrs Clark replaced a fence between the properties.
Ms Field claimed it had encroached on her garden and had it demolished, but Mrs Clark sued for damages and won the first case in 2022.
Several appeals followed and Ms Field was accused of wasting time by bombarding the court with papers.
A bid by her to sue for £500,000 in damages was also dismissed as “totally without merit”.
District Judge Ross Fentem said Mrs Clark had been kept from money owed to her for a long time and told Bournemouth county court the order for sale was “a last resort and draconian remedy”.

The first will open on October 1 in Gateway Park, Lincoln, and will be called The Hykeham Manor.
A further three will open in October and November at sites in Annitsford, Northumberland, Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, and Emersons Green in Bristol.
The pub chain’s commercial director, Michael Barron, said: “We are delighted to have signed agreements with The Papas Group.
“We are looking at further opportunities and are confident that more franchise agreements will be signed.”
The Papas Group is a family-owned business which runs casual dining restaurants such as Papa’s Fish and Chips and Wendy’s, mostly in the north of England.
Wetherspoons already has several franchise agreements. They include tie-ups with the holiday park operator Haven and the universities of Newcastle and Hull — running a pub at each campus.
These arrangements are common in the hospitality sector and allow an independent operator to run an established chain using their brand and products.
Wetherspoons has opened pubs at several locations this year, including in Fulham, West London, and Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

THE number of low-deposit mortgages has hit the highest level in 17 years, according to Moneyfactscompare.
There are currently 1,360 90 and 95 per cent deals available, representing 19 per cent of the residential mortgage market.
The news comes after HomesEngland, the Government’s housing agency, and Countryside Properties signed a long-term deal to build more homes.
The partnership will be backed by £150million of investment and will focus on building houses as part of the Government’s housebuilding target.
SUNNY SALES
RETAIL sales were up 3.1 per cent in August driven by good weather and an interest rate cut, official figures show.
The year-on-year uptick beat last August’s 1 per cent. Tech items did well but school uniforms and shoes disappointed as families tried second-hand, said the British Retail Consortium-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor.
Home appliances, DIY and garden goods all saw sales growth last month.

OIL prices rose by more than a dollar a barrel yesterday as increases in supply looked set to stall and Russia braced itself for the impact of new EU sanctions.
OPEC countries have voted to lift production by 137,000 barrels per day in October — far less than previous monthly increases.
Experts have warned of a glut of oil next year as demand falls. Nevertheless Brent crude rose to $66.70 per barrel.
Pret will trial meal deals in October, November and DecemberCredit: Alamy
Pret plans to trial the meal deal format in the final three months of the year.
Boss Pano Christou said the chain’s focus is on “offering great value for money” as part of its medium-term strategy to grow and return to sustainable profits.
Details on pricing and locations for the trial have yet to be revealed.
Pret’s latest accounts showed a pre-tax loss of £525.2 million for the year to January 2 – largely due to a £552.9 million write-down after a reassessment by owner JAB, which bought the chain in 2018.
This followed a £61.7 million loss the year before.
Despite the losses, Pret said its earnings before adjustments rose 36 per cent to £98 million for the year.
Meanwhile, total revenue dipped 4.2 per cent to £868.4 million compared to the previous year.
Like-for-like sales grew by 2.8 per cent, helped by an 11 per cent expansion to 717 shops as the business continued to grow internationally.
Pret said it is keen to expand further in the US, especially around city centres and travel hubs.

Christou, Pret’s CEO, said: “2024 was another year of growth for Pret, where we took disciplined decisions to protect sales, despite intense strains on the hospitality industry.
“Going forward our priority will be to drive transactions and sustainable growth by offering great value for money for Pret customers.
“Our focus will be on growing Pret’s market share in the UK and internationally, prioritising city centres and travel hubs, backed by the experience and expertise of additional world-class board members and a strengthened management team.”
Pret opened its first shop in London in 1986 and now employs 12,500 staff across over 700 locations in 21 countries.
KINDER has crunched multipacks of its iconic Bueno bars from eight sticks to six in the latest blatant example of shrinkflation ripping off hard-up Brits.
Alex Paver, pricing and customer director at Morrisons, said: “At Morrisons we believe great quality should be affordable for everyone, and we know that the cost of everyday products really matter to our customers right now.
“That’s why we’re cutting the prices of over 650 items, from fresh favourites to cupboard staples, so our customers can trust they’re getting real value every time they shop with us.
“These price cuts mean customers can spend less on the essentials and still enjoy the great quality Morrisons is known for.”
In addition to the price reductions, Morrisons has also launched a number of weekly deals.
These include discounts on popular items like wine, coffee, and tea.
Vodka to the Rescue: Morrisons’ Unconventional Emergency Tactics
As part of a cost-cutting overhaul, the grocer also shut more than 50 of its in-store cafés, 35 meat and fish counters, and 18 Market Kitchen food courts earlier this year.
It cited the need to cut costs amid rising financial pressure.
It is instead investing in tech, rolling out new “Tally” robots to help customers find items on the shelves and improve stock management.
However, the business has returned to profit for the first time since 2021, when the chain was bought by US private equity investor Clayton Dubilier & Rice (CD&R).
Morrisons posted a pre-tax profit of £2.1billion for the year ending October 27 2024, reversing losses of £919million in 2023 and £1.3billion in 2022, according to new filings on Companies House.
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
HIGH streets across the UK are facing more closures as major retailers shut their doors today.
Poundland, Game, and The Original Factory Shop are among the chains cutting back on stores, leaving shoppers with fewer options.

These closures are part of wider restructuring plans as businesses adapt to changing shopping habits and financial pressures.
Here are all the stores shutting on your local high street today.
Game
Game is closing its Metrocentre store in Gateshead today (September 7).
The closure is part of changes by its owner, Frasers Group.
The company is reducing the number of stores as more shopping moves online and into concessions.
The chain has around 240 stores across the UK. Another store in the Galleries Shopping Centre, Bristol, will close on September 25.
However, a Game concession inside the Sports Direct store in the same shopping centre will stay open.
Both closing stores are holding big sales to clear stock.
Shoppers can get discounts of up to 20%.
Claire’s Bankruptcy: 290 Store Closures & What Shoppers Need to Know
Poundland
Poundland’s Pontypool store is set to close today (September 7), followed by the closure of its Irvine branch on 14th September.
Recently, discount chain avoided going into administration by getting creditors to agree to restructuring plans, which included closing stores and cutting jobs.
Companies often use CVAs to avoid insolvency, which could otherwise force stores to close or trigger the collapse of the entire business.
They allow firms to explore different options, such as negotiating reduced rents with landlords.
But The Original Factory Shop previously told The Press and Journal that a “number of loss-making stores would have to close” in the restructuring.
What else is happening on the high street?
Bodycare, which begun as a market stall in Lancashire back in the 1970s and has 147 UK stores, appointed administrators from Interpath Advisory on Friday.
Currently, 115 stores remain open and are trading as usual while administrators explore options for the future of the business.
However, if a buyer cannot be found, further store closures may occur.
Like many of its peers, Bodycare has felt the burn of risings cost coupled with shoppers having less money to spend at the till.
Recently, River Islandavoided going into administration by getting creditors to agree to restructuring plans, which included closing stores and cutting jobs.
River Island will close up to 33 stores in January to help write off the fashion brand’s debts.
Locations in major UK cities including Edinburgh, Leeds, Oxford, Brighton and Perth are all expected to close.
The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury’s hike to employer NICs will cost the retail sector £2.3billion.
The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year.
It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year.
Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: “The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025.”
Professor Bamfield has also warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector.
“By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer’s household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020.”
SEVERAL major high street bank brands are set to slash opening hours at hundreds of branches within days, The Sun can reveal.
Lloyds Banking Group, which operates Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, is set to shake-up opening hours at all 757 of its branches from September 29.
1
Under the new rules, branches will open later and close earlier than many currently do
The move is being branded as a step towards consistency and improved staff wellbeing, but it will also mean less time for customers to access in-person banking services.
Under the new rules, branches will open later and close earlier than many currently do.
Weekday opening times will shift from 9am to 9.30am, with an even later start of 10am on Wednesdays to allow for dedicated staff training and development.
Closing times, which currently vary between 4.30pm and 5pm depending on the branch, will now be standardised to between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
This means customers who previously had access to branches for longer hours will now lose up to 90 minutes of service each day.
Saturday hours are also being reduced, with branches opening at 9.30am instead of 9am.
Most will close by either 1pm or 3pm, cutting 30 minutes from morning banking services.
These changes will result in a net reduction of banking hours across the week.
For example, customers who rely on branches that currently open at 9am and close at 5pm could lose significant time for banking tasks.
The reduction in opening hours reflects a broader trend in the banking industry, as more customers shift to online and mobile banking.

With fewer people visiting branches in person, banks are cutting back on physical service times.
The changes are set to come into effect on September 29, with staff already being informed of the adjustments.
Customers who rely on in-branch services are being advised to check the new opening hours before planning their visits.
You can check your local branch’s operating hours by visiting branches.lloydsbank.com.

How do I switch bank accounts?
SWITCHING bank accounts is a simple process and can usually be done through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS).
Dozens of high street banks and building societies are signed up – there’s a full list on CASS’ website.
Under the switching service, swapping banks should take seven working days.
You don’t have to remember to move direct debits across when moving, as this is done for you.
All you have to do is apply for the new account you want, and the new bank will tell your existing one you’re moving.
There are a few things you can do before switching though, including choosing your switch date and transferring any old bank statements to your new account.
You should get in touch with your existing bank for any old statements.
When switching current accounts, consider what other perks might come with joining a specific bank or building society.
Some banks offer 0% overdrafts up to a certain limit, and others might offer better rates on savings accounts.
And some banks offer free travel or mobile phone insurance with their current accounts – but these accounts might come with a monthly fee.
This move came as part of a broader restructuring, which also includes theclosure of 95 branchesand the conversion of 18 to “counter-free” service desks.
People like David Elkins, 82, a retired service engineer from Calne, Wilts, who saw his HSBC branch close in 2023 and had to travel ten miles to the next nearest.
He has a kidney issue and needs frequent dialysis, making it impractical.
Banking hubs are emerging as a solution to address the gaps left by widespread closures – but there are not enough of them.
There are plans for 231 of these, but so far there are only 160.
You can use one of the Post Office’s more than 11,500 branches to perform basic banking tasks, but they don’t allow you to open or close accounts for example.
It’s now been revealed that this year’s payment will be between £100 and £300, to help cover the cost of higher heating bills this winter.
The money will become available to most eligible pensioners in November or December.
The amount is determined by both age and household circumstances of a claimant over the qualifying period, which is the week of September 15 to 21.
Where you were born is also a contributing factor.
Letters can be expected for those who qualify for it in England and Wales in October or November.
Scottish State Pensioners to Receive Winter Fuel Payment Boost in 2025
The letter will provide details on how much money you will be offered, as well as which bank account the payment will go into – which is usually the same as where you receive State Pensions or other benefits.
DWP guidance states: “You’ll get a letter in October or November telling you how much Winter Fuel Payment you’ll get, if you’re eligible.
“If you do not get a letter but think you’re eligible, check if you need to make a claim.”
This scheme follows similar eligibility criteria as outlined by the DWP, but will be issued automatically by Social Security Scotland from the end of November.
The GOV.UK website provides further guidance on the scheme and how to be a claim.
It also warns people to be wary about scammers who may send out trick messages that provide a link to click on and make a claim.

Enormous damage would be caused if the 15 per cent tax paid by bookmakers is brought into line with online gaming which is taxed at 21 per cent.
Horse racing will go on strike next Wednesday when four race meetings are put on hold in protest at the proposed changes.
The horse racing industry would be dealt a £66 million a year hit and threaten thousands of jobs.
Ministers have been warned that any such move will have be catastrophic for racing’s fragile finances with punters also being driven to illicit markets.
READ MORE ON GAMBLING TAX
A spokesperson for the Betting and Gaming Council said: “Hiking gambling taxes would backfire spectacularly.
“Far from boosting the Treasury, it will push punters towards the unsafe black market, which pays no tax, backs no sport and has zero standards.”
They add that it would shrink the legal market and damage sport.
The industry says it already pays £4 billion in taxes, supports 109,000 jobs and pumps £6.8 billion into the economy.
Ex-PM Gordon Brown has called for an increase on gambling taxes to help take children out of poverty.
The Treasury has previously said: “We are consulting on bringing the treatment of online betting in line with other forms of online gambling to cut down bureaucracy – it is not about increasing or decreasing rates, and we welcome views from all stakeholders including businesses, trade bodies, the third sector and individuals.”

HOUSEHOLDS across the country are being warned to brace for a financial squeeze as the cost of government borrowing skyrockets to levels not seen since 1998.
This now directly threatens to push up mortgage rates and could usher in a new wave of tax hikes.
1
The rise in government borrowing costs is putting serious pressure on household budgets in two key waysCredit: Getty
The pound has tumbled in response to the growing unease, highlighting investor concern over the UK’s economic stability.
At the heart of the issue are government bonds, known as “gilts,” which the government issues to borrow money.
These bonds offer investors a return, referred to as the “yield.”
In recent weeks, gilt yields have been rising rapidly, making it more expensive for the government to borrow.
This morning, yields soared further, with 30-year gilts reaching 5.72% – the highest level in nearly 30 years – while 10-year gilts climbed to 4.85%.
This spike signals that investors are nervous.
They are demanding a higher return to lend to the UK, worried about stubborn inflation and a gaping £51billion hole in the nation’s finances.
The rise in government borrowing costs is putting serious pressure on household budgets in two key ways
Firstly, it’s driving up mortgage rates.
The link between government gilt yields and mortgage rates is direct and unavoidable.
Lenders use “swap rates,” which closely track gilt yields, to set the prices of fixed-rate mortgage deals.
As these rates climb, fixed mortgages become more expensive.
Since August 1, two-year swaps have risen from 3.56% to 3.74%, while five-year swaps have gone from 3.63% to 3.83%.
Major lenders like Barclays have already started increasing rates, and even a small rise can add significantly to monthly payments on a typical £200,000 mortgage.
With swap rates continuing to rise in recent weeks, experts warn that mortgage rates are likely to increase further.
Separately, Chancellor Rachel Reeves faces a difficult challenge in her Autumn Budget, scheduled for November.
Higher borrowing costs are eating into public funds, and many economists believe tax increases will be necessary to fill the financial gap.
Although the government has promised not to raise income tax, national insurance, or VAT for “working people,” other tax measures are reportedly being considered.
One proposal is applying National Insurance to rental income, which critics fear could result in landlords passing on the cost to tenants through higher rents.
Another idea being debated is replacing stamp duty with an annual property tax, which could affect homeowners.
There are also rumours of reducing pension tax relief or cutting the tax-free lump sum, moves that could generate billions but might hurt savers.
Plus, there’s speculation about lowering the VAT threshold, which would bring more small businesses into the tax system.
This could increase their costs and potentially lead to higher prices for consumers.
Reeves is expected to make economic growth the centrepiece of her next Budget, warning that Britain’s economy is “stuck” and in need of bold solutions.
What can you do about it?
None of the proposed changes have been confirmed yet, and the government hasn’t ruled them out either.
However, any new measures won’t take effect until after the Budget in November.
It’s important not to make rash decisions based on speculation.
If changes are announced, you’ll have time to act and protect your finances before they come into effect.
For instance, if stamp duty is replaced by an annual property tax from a certain date, you could move house before the deadline to avoid the extra cost.
Similarly, if the government introduces capital gains tax on high-value properties, you might consider downsizing to a smaller home before the change is implemented.
Rob Morgan, chief analyst at Charles Stanley, said: “Taking pre-emptive action can outright backfire.
“Last year some people were concerned about restrictions around taking tax free cash from pension and took withdrawals they wouldn’t have otherwise made.
“This removed the money from a tax-efficient environment and potentially stored up tax issues that will come back to haunt them.
“Instead, it’s best to wait to see what happens, consider the consequences, and take advice as required before acting.”
Most of the proposed measures are likely to affect only the very wealthy, so you may not be impacted at all.
If you’re concerned, there are steps you can take to prepare and safeguard your finances.
Check your financial health
If you are worried about your finances then you should speak to a financial adviser.
They will be able to offer you advice about your situation and explain if any of the measures will affect you.
You can find one using unbiased.co.uk – but remember, you will pay a fee.
It’s good practice to sit down and take stock of your finances every six months and work out a plan.
Work out all your bills and outgoings and what income you have and factor in any changes, such as bills going up or new income streams.
Think about what you need to do to make the most of your money. For example, do you need to prioritise paying off debts or saving for a house deposit.
If your mortgage deal is coming to an end soon, act now.
Locking in a fixed rate could shield you from rising rates and market uncertainty.
Aaron Strutt, of mortgage broker Trinity Financial, said “For the moment there have not been significant price hikes but it’s probably worth locking in a mortgage rate if you are buying somewhere or due to remortgage, to try and keep away from any market turbulence.”
If you are coming to the end of a fixed deal, most lenders let you lock in a new rate up to six months beforehand, which can be worth doing.
If rates fall after you agree a new deal, some lenders will let you sign a new one at a lower rate.
How to get the best deal on your mortgage
IF you’re looking for a traditional type of mortgage, getting the best rates depends entirely on what’s available at any given time.
If you’re remortgaging and your loan-to-value ratio (LTV) has changed, you’ll get access to better rates than before.
Your LTV will go down if your outstanding mortgage is lower and/or your home’s value is higher.
A change to your credit score or a better salary could also help you access better rates.
And if you’re nearing the end of a fixed deal soon it’s worth looking for new deals now.
You can lock in current deals sometimes up to six months before your current deal ends.
Leaving a fixed deal early will usually come with an early exit fee, so you want to avoid this extra cost.
But depending on the cost and how much you could save by switching versus sticking, it could be worth paying to leave the deal – but compare the costs first.
You can also go to a mortgage broker who can compare a much larger range of deals for you.
Some will charge an extra fee but there are plenty who give advice for free and get paid only on commission from the lender.
You’ll also need to factor in fees for the mortgage, though some have no fees at all.
You can add the fee – sometimes more than £1,000 – to the cost of the mortgage, but be aware that means you’ll pay interest on it and so will cost more in the long term.
The average bank customer has around £10,000 in savings, according to Raisin.
If that £10,000 is kept in an easy access account earning 1.5% interest, it would generate just £150 in interest each year.
But switching to Cahoot’s 5% easy access account would boost that to £500, earning you an extra £350.
If your savings account pays less than the current inflation rate of 3.8%, it’s time to look for a better deal.
How can I find the best savings rates?
WITH your current savings rates in mind, don’t waste time looking at individual banking sites to compare rates – it’ll take you an eternity.
Research price comparison websites such as Compare the Market, Go.Compare and MoneySupermarket.
These will help you save you time and show you the best rates available.
They also let you tailor your searches to an account type that suits you.
As a benchmark, you’ll want to consider any account that currently pays more interest than the current level of inflation – 3.4%.
It’s always wise to have some money stashed inside an easy-access savings account to ensure you have quick access to cash to deal with any emergencies like a boiler repair, for example.
If you’re saving for a long-term goal, then consider locking some of your savings inside a fixed bond, as these usually come with the highest savings rates.

Two new bagels have been introduced including a New York deli-style oneCredit: Marks & Spencer
There are new sandwiches, wraps and bagels from the major retailer’s Foodhalls which are available now.
It is an entirely new section to the Marks and Spencer food aisle for people to try.
The shelves have been labelled NEW in the fridge section of grocery stores, with ‘PICK ME! I’ve just arrived’ signs attached.
Among the top picks for this month from the new selection includes a Chicken Tikka Sandwich which is “back by popular demand”.
This sandwich is described to have “creamy” spiced and marinated roast chicken breast inside some “soft malted” onion seed bread.
There is also spinach, tikka sauce and a “cooling” yoghurt raita, so the sandwich is “generously filled and packed with flavour”.
It is priced at £4 from the popular grocer, and is a limited edition.
Another addition is a similar seeded tortilla wrap version, which is a Butter Chicken Wrap that has been added to the new collection.
It is a “summer edit” of the retailer’s food hall that “combines succulent British chicken breast with a luxuriously creamy butter chicken sauce accompanied by crispy spinach, tangy pickled red onion and crunchy cabbage.”
Clemmie Moodie tries the new Arctic Colin the Caterpillar
The American deli-inspired one has been called the “Ruben bagel” which has layers of beef pastrami, pickles, mustard and cream cheese.
Finally, there is the “Katsu Sando” which is going for £5 from M&S.
The Katsu Sando is also part of the “summer edit” described to have panko breaded chicken, katsu curry spiced mayo, pickled cabbage and coriander inside.
As M&S have stated: “The Katsu Sando makes a mouthwatering lunch that’s sweet, spicy and satisfying.”
There is also a honey soy ketchup sauce added to the sandwiches flavour, that is contained within some soft brioche-style bread.
These latest “lunch sensations” can be found at M&S Foodhalls now, and are just some of the store’s top picks for the month.
The news of this updated lunch range from M&S comes after the popular retailer also released a new version of its iconic Colin the Caterpillar Cake.
To mark the much-loved dessert’s 35th birthday, The Sun’s Clemmie Moodie got to have an exclusive first try of the new Arctic Colin.
Arctic Colin went on sale at M&S stores just last week, after two years in the making.
HISTORY OF M&S
M&S was founded in 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer in Leeds.
The first official Marks and Spencer store opened in Manchester in 1901.
Throughout the 1920s, M&SA gre rapidly, opening more and more stores across the country.
The retailer made its reputation in the early 20th century by selling only British-made products.
It began textile sales in 1926 and started selling food from 1931.
The St Michael trademark was introduced in 1928 as a guarantee of quality and value.
This was initially used only for a small range of textiles but was extended over the years to cover all goods sold by M&S.
M&S introduced its first in-store cafe in 1935 in the Leeds store.
It provided cheap, hygienic, and nutritious mass catering.
By 1942, M&S opened 82 cafes across its estate.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, M&S had 234 stores.
By 1945, over 100 of these had been damaged by bombs, and 16 had been completely destroyed.
BY 1960, M&S pioneered in the sale of fresh poultry following the invention of the cold-chain process.
In the 1970s and 1980s, M&S pushed into international markets including the US, Canada and France.
In 1979, M&S introduced the Chicken Kiev to its food halls across the UK.
In 1992, Percy Pigs were launched.
The Autograph range of clothing was introduced in 2000, and the St Michael brand was slowly phased out.
In 2019, the group announced 110 store closures as part of its plans, affecting several longstanding high-street shops.
In September 2020, M&S partnered with Ocado to allow for home delivery of the chain’s full food range.
M&S has recently announced new stores and is freshening up a swathe of others in a boost for shoppers.
A MUM is ho-ho-home and dry for Christmas already — with £2,000 of gifts all set to go under the tree.
Charlotte Chandler started buying presents for her children Harley, 14, Evie, 13, and six-year-old Myles in June.
The 36-year-old says stocking up early takes off the pressure during the festive period.
She said: “Getting organised early makes a massive difference.
“I usually start in June but sometimes I start earlier.
“This way, I can spread the cost but also be less stressed nearer Christmas and have spare money for activities.
“Going through a busy shopping centre in December and fighting for a parking space is a no thank you.”
And she resists any urge to keep adding to her stockpile.
Charlotte said: “I don’t keep going until Christmas. I’m done now.”
The well-organised content creator, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, hides the presents in two 7ft cupboards with locks on them.
Besides the £2,000 on gifts, single mum Charlotte will add about £10 a week to her food shop to buy festive treats such as crisps, nuts, chocolates and fizzy drinks.
She said: “Anything to keep those stress levels down and enjoy Christmas.”
Christmas Eve boxes are out – the new trend parents are gifting kids instead, it’s cheaper & they’ll enjoy it more too

IF you’re wondering where your money’s going each month, it might not be big bills or bad luck to blame but small, repeated mistakes that add up fast.
From letting your savings sit in low-interest accounts, to underestimating the real cost of long mortgage terms, financial experts warn that common habits could be quietly emptying your bank accounts.

Money experts revealed the biggest habits that are keeping people poorCredit: Getty
We asked money experts and behavioural scientists to reveal the biggest habits that are holding people back.
1. Not knowing what’s coming in and going out
It’s hard to feel in control of your money when you don’t know where it’s actually going.
Many people assume they have a rough idea, but the reality is that forgotten subscriptions, auto-renewing services and small daily purchases quickly add up.
Without visibility, your budget can slowly unravel, and by the time you realise, you’ve slipped into the red.
Vix Leyton, consumer expert at Thinkmoney, says the fix starts with routine: “Take time to know what your outgoings are and what is coming in.
“Some apps, like Thinkmoney, offer a snapshot of what you’re spending, and can even ringfence bill money for you so you don’t accidentally end up facing penalties and late fees.”
Even a five-minute weekly check-in can help avoid nasty surprises and highlight where cutbacks are needed.
2. Living without a savings buffer
It’s hard to save money – but not having a buffer can leave you exposed to high credit when you need cash quickly.
Whether it’s a broken boiler, a car that won’t start or a sudden cut in hours at work, not having a cushion means falling back on credit cards or payday loans just to stay afloat.
The result is a constant feeling of stress, and a budget that can be thrown off by the smallest shock.
Thomas Mathar, behavioural researcher and host of The Money:Mindshift Podcast, says a little slack goes a long way.
He said: “Even a modest buffer, like one month’s rent, can give you the breathing space to make better decisions and avoid high-cost debt.
“It’s not just about the numbers, it’s about having mental and financial slack when life throws you a curveball.”
3. Letting debt pile up month after month
More and more people have credit card debt, which means it can be easy to think it’s business as usual, especially when the minimum payments are low.
But ultimately, you’re paying interest to the bank instead of putting that money toward your own goals. Over time, that can add up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds in lost savings.
“Too many people accept credit card debt as a normal state of affairs. It’s not,” says Mathar.
I’ve made over £56k with a side hustle anyone can do – skint people must stop being scared and should try something new
“Paying down high-interest debt quickly is one of the most powerful things you can do for your long-term well being. It’s buying yourself back freedom, and peace of mind.”
If you’re juggling multiple debts, focus on the most expensive ones first and look into 0% balance transfer options if your credit score allows.
4. Having psychological armour to support you
In the age of side hustles and flashy online success stories, it’s tempting to ditch steady work for riskier pursuits.
But without a reliable income it’s hard to build long-term security.
Inconsistent earnings often mean falling behind on bills, using credit to bridge the gap, and struggling to plan ahead.
Mathar warns that it’s important to have some sort of regular income, even if you’re pursuing other hustles on the side.
He says: “A steady income isn’t just about covering bills, it’s psychological armour.
“When you’re living month-to-month or under-earning compared to your potential, the stress compounds.
“You don’t need to chase big money, but you do need income that’s ‘good enough’ to support a resilient, happy life.”
5. Leaving savings in a dead-end account
You might feel good about putting money aside, but if it’s sitting in an easy-access account earning barely any interest, your savings are losing value in real terms.
With inflation still high, the cost of leaving cash in low-yield accounts is higher than many realise.
Adam said: “The likes of HSBC, Lloyds Bank, Santander, NatWest and Barclays all have easy access accounts paying around 1.1 to 1.2 per cent interest, far below the typical returns savers could expect, which is currently 3.51 per cent.”
The top performing options can pay even more, and shopping around and switching accounts only takes a few minutes online.
How to effectively manage your money
Kara Gammell, finance expert at MoneySuperMarket, gives tips on how to get a handle on your finances so you have more left for saving,
If you’re struggling to get a grip on your finances, the way to start is to do a proper inventory.
Try Emma, the money management app, which uses open banking to combine information from all your bank accounts, savings accounts and credit cards, plus investments. The app then highlights any wasteful subscriptions and costly debt and helps streamline your savings.
What’s more, it analyses your personal finances and recommends ways to conserve money so that you can get on track financially more easily than ever.
If you want to have a deep dive into your spending habits, go through your bank statement at the end of each month and give every purchase a rating of one, two or three.
Mark with a ‘one’ any purchases that didn’t make you feel good; give a ‘two’ rating to things that felt ‘sort of good but indifferent’; and mark with ‘three’ any purchases that you would make all over again in a heartbeat.
You’ll be surprised by what you learn.
Monitor your credit report
From overdrafts to loans, credit cards, mobile phones and mortgages, it can be hard to keep track of your finances, and it can be all too simple to find yourself in the dark about how much debt you have in total.
But this information forms your credit score, which is used by lenders to determine whether you’ll be offered competitive rates and offers for financial products, or even whether you will even be accepted when you make an application.
I’m automatically notified when my credit report is updated monthly, which can be a huge help in avoiding any financial problems from spiralling and means I always know what my overall financial situation is.
The tool also suggests ways to improve your credit score, so you’re more likely to be offered competitive interest rates, which helps you save money in the long run.
6. Not making the most of your ISA allowance
More savers than ever are being hit with tax bills they could have avoided.
Frozen tax thresholds mean that even modest savers can end up over the personal savings allowance, paying tax on any interest they earn.
That means, if you’re not using your ISA allowance, you’re potentially giving money away for free.
French explains: “Saving and investing are some of the best ways to build wealth over time.
“But it’s important that savers are aware of their tax liability on any profits they make – which can add up over the course of a few years.
Plenty of savers can avoid this tax bill by making use their yearly ISA allowances.
You can save or invest up to £20,000 a year tax-free, and every pound sheltered from tax is a pound that keeps working for you.
7. Only saving for retirement, and nothing else
Putting money into a pension is smart, but it shouldn’t be your only savings plan.
Many people now take career breaks, retrain, care for relatives or start businesses, and those transitions need funding too.
Mathar says ignoring this reality can leave people exposed.
“We don’t live three-stage lives anymore – education, work, retirement… A ‘transition fund’ – even just a few months’ salary – makes those big life pivots possible without financial panic.”
8. Being too harsh on yourself when things go wrong
Money mistakes happen. But too often, people fall into a cycle of guilt and avoidance, especially if they’re already struggling.
That mindset can stop you from facing your finances or reaching out for help, which only makes things worse in the long run.
Mathar believes the solution starts with self-empathy. “Here’s the truth: we’re all a bit messed up when it comes to money.
Our brains are wired for short-term wins, not long-term planning.
The goal isn’t to be perfect with money; it’s to build enough slack, mental and financial, so that one mistake or setback doesn’t knock you flat.”
9. Not overpaying your mortgage when you could
With mortgage rates still high and household budgets under pressure, many borrowers are choosing longer terms to keep monthly payments manageable.
But unless you’re also making overpayments, that strategy can come at a serious long-term cost.
French says small changes now can lead to huge savings later: “Overpaying by £200 per month on that same £250,000 40-year mortgage could shave almost 13 years off the mortgage term, saving them around £123,000 in interest payments.
“This is all without being tied to having to consistently make higher payments every single month – boosting the flexibility of their budget and their financial resilience.”
Most lenders allow up to 10 per cent overpayment each year.
Even £50 a month can help you become mortgage-free sooner and pay far less in interest overall.
Top tips for becoming an ISA millionaire
SAVING into a stocks and shares ISA can help you build wealth faster over the long term than cash savings. Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at savings platform AJ Bell, gives his advice…
Start as early as you can
Time in the market is important, not just so you can ride the market ups and downs but also to let your wealth build up.
Not everyone can afford to invest the full £20,000 ISA allowance each year, particularly younger people who might be on a lower salary.
The trick is to start as early as possible with what you can afford to invest. Increase your contributions as you get older, such as when you get a pay rise.
Maximise your contributions
Try to invest as much as you can each month once you’re sure all the essentials are covered.
Create a budget so you can pay bills in full and clear any expensive debt, such as personal loans or credit cards.
The remaining money can be used to fund your lifestyle and to top up your ISA.
Be consistent with contributions
Feeding your account on a regular basis means you get into the habit of squirrelling money away for your future.
After a while you get accustomed to that money going into your ISA that you may not even think about alternative uses for it, such as going shopping or down the pub with your friends.
Keep an eye on costs and charges
Costs can add up over time and eat into your returns. Try not to fiddle too much with your portfolio as trading in and out of investments incurs transaction charges.
It is important to be patient with investing, especially for someone hoping to be an ISA millionaire as the journey to build up this wealth could last for decades.
Having a diversified portfolio is good practice for any investor and essentially means keeping different types of investments to help balance out the risk.
Then if something goes wrong with one of your investments, you’ve got the rest to hopefully act as a cushion to minimise the pain.
Diversification can involve investing in different industry sectors, geographies and asset types. For example, a diversified portfolio might have exposure to shares, funds and bonds from around the world.
Companies and funds often pay dividends every three to six months.
Think of these as rewards for taking the risk of owning their shares or fund units. While it can be tempting to pocket that income stream to spend on yourself, history suggests one of the biggest contributors to investment returns is reinvesting dividends back into your account to grow wealth faster.

‘Opening for military vets and ex-offenders’

Roger Morton, Director of Business Change at the NHBC, said: ‘The industry needs more than 250,000 construction workers by 2028 to meet demand and build the 10,000 new homes we need’Credit: supplied
TO match the Government’s £100million for training courses, the National House Building Council is injecting the same.
They are looking to get more young people into construction, but also other groups including ex-military and people who have been in prison.
Roger Morton, Director of Business Change at the NHBC, said: “The industry needs more than 250,000 construction workers by 2028 to meet demand and build the 10,000 new homes we need. We need 2,500 brickies, 2,500 groundworkers and 1,000 carpenters and that’s why we’re investing £100million. We’re investing in 12 new NHBC multi-skilled training hubs across the country, to support 3,000 apprenticeships each year. We are targeting young people but also career changers, veterans, ex-offenders. We provide a unique, immersive facility where we can train people in 14 to 18 months, many with distinctions. That’s nearly twice as fast as traditional routes.
“We need to change perception so people see that being a trade is a great career. The average bricklayer earns £50,000, and they might progress to management, senior management, director. A colleague began as an apprentice and runs a 230-strong department.”

‘I love to learn and earn’

Tegan Pryor, 23, from Shefford, Beds, said: ‘I started training as a bricklayer three years ago and honestly, I’ve never looked back’Credit: supplied
SHE is sleight of figure, so many think Tegan Pryor is joking when she tells them she’s a builder.
But having ditched a leisure-centre job to study bricklaying at college, the hard grafter is now backing our Build A Better Britain campaign to urge more young people to take up a trade.
Tegan, 23, from Shefford, Beds, said: “I started training as a bricklayer three years ago and honestly, I’ve never looked back.
“It is 100 per cent the right career for me. I was a lifeguard and receptionist at a leisure centre before but there wasn’t much career opportunity, it felt like a dead end.
“Now, I get to work outdoors and have a laugh with my colleagues – and I’m not treated any differently because I’m a woman.
“There is respect, and I learn something new every day.
“I’m on about £130 a day for an eight-and-a-half hour shift and some days it’s hard, but it’s also satisfying when you look back on what you achieved.
“The average wage for a bricklayer is about £50,000 a year and that’s what I’m heading towards.”

‘You can make £300 a day’

Lucas, 25, from Nottingham, did a two-and-a-half year bricklaying course at Derby CollegeCredit: Paul Tonge
HE was toying with going to university but the prospect of three more years’ book study, and the debt, swung Lucas Robinson to learn a trade.
Lucas, 25, from Nottingham, did a two-and-a-half year bricklaying course at Derby College, while working on sites for his employer at £170 a week.
He said of bricklaying: “I’ve been doing this for four years and the company I work for is all over the country. Bricklaying is what you make of it. You can start at 8am, finish at 3pm and make £300 a day, depending on the deal. I’ve been doing ‘price bricklaying’ for a while, paid 65p a brick and about £150 a day, but I hear you can make £1 a brick in London.
“Eight hours is a long day carrying bricks and it can be stressful when things are not going right, but I love my job. My dad’s a bricklayer too.
“My mum wanted to push me down the uni route, but I decided on a different path and I’m so happy.
“Looking at a house and thinking, I built that and people are going to live in it, it’s a good feeling.”

A MAJOR supermarket has cut the price of Quality Street tubs – but bargain hunters need to move fast as the deal ends today.
The offer is running in stores across the UK, giving shoppers the chance to stock up on Christmas favourites months before the festive season begins.

It disappears from shelves after todayCredit: Getty
It’s Morrisons offering the bargain, letting customers bag two tubs for just £9.
Normally, the tubs sell for £7 each, so the deal works out as a saving of up to 36 per cent.
The offer covers four favourites – the 600g Quality Street tub, plus 550g tubs of Celebrations, Cadbury Heroes and Cadbury Roses.
It’s one of the cheapest supermarket offers around right now, but the bargain won’t last long.
The promotion only runs until August 31, after which prices will jump back up.
So, today is the very last chance to snap up the tubs before the discount disappears.
The offer comes as Christmas chocolates are already hitting supermarket shelves across the country.
Fans were left buzzing this week when B&M stores began selling Quality Street’s famous Strawberry Delight crackers.
Each box contains dark chocolate bites filled with a creamy strawberry centre – and shoppers couldn’t wait to share the news.
One excited fan posted online: “Strawberry Delight are the best Quality Street and the crackers are BACK at B&M.”
Others quickly piled in with their support. One wrote: “Love them and the orange.” Another added: “My favourite.”
Tesco is also running its own offer, slashing the price of a Quality Street tin to £5.95 with a Clubcard.
But some shoppers reckon it’s far too early for festive promos.
One joked: “Be Easter eggs by the end of the month on display.”
Another said: “Don’t know what’s the bigger joke. The price or the fact it’s 4 months early.”
Meanwhile, there’s frustration as Quality Street tubs have shrunk yet again this year.
The classic purple boxes are now 550g, down from 600g last year, and a huge drop from 780g back in 2015.
That means around five or six fewer chocolates per tub, with the number falling from around 63 to roughly 57.
Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: “The shrinking Quality Street tub has become a Christmas tradition.
“The lights go up, the carols play, the chocolates shrink.”
He joked: “At this rate, the tub will quite literally be empty by 2035.”
Consumer champion Martyn James also blasted the change, saying: “Most people consider this to be out and out greed.”
He added: “Better to charge us more than give us less and not tell us.”
Nestlé, which makes Quality Street, insisted changes are based on “manufacturing, ingredients, transport and customer preferences.”
How to save money on chocolate
We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…
Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.
Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.
Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.
Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.
They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.
Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.
So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

HUNDREDS of thousands of Brits could be hit by a surprise £500 tax bill as a new rule comes into effect.
The new scheme could affect nearly 900,000 business owners across the UK.

The Government’s new Making Tax Digital scheme will require people over a certain income threshold to keep electronic records and file updates every financial quarter.
The move is part of the Government’s efforts to crack down on tax fraud, which cost Britain £12.4 billion from 2021 to 2022.
However, financial advisors have warned that the cost of reporting your tax figures could cost up to £500 a year once staff training, software and admin time are factored in – according to George Holmes, managing director of Aurora Capital.
Only people who earn £50,000 from self-employment or from rental properties will be subject to the new rules.
Ahead of the change, Craig Ogilvie, director of Making Tax Digital at HMRC, said: “With April 2026 on the horizon, we are issuing letters to customers we believe will be mandated, outlining specific requirements and timelines.”
He added: “We urge those who meet the mandate criteria to join our testing programme on GOV.UK now to help shape the final service and make your transition smoother.”
An estimated 864,000 sole traders and landlords will need to comply with the new rules.
James Murray MP, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, said: “MTD for Income Tax is an essential part of our plan to transform the UK’s tax system into one that supports economic growth.”
Murray added: “By modernising how people manage their tax, we’re helping businesses work more efficiently and productively while ensuring everyone pays their fair share.”
The news comes after experts warned Rachel Reeves that she would have to find £50 billion to plug a black hole in Britain’s finances.
HMRC using AI to scan social media for tax evasion investigations
The Chancellor has remained committed to her fiscal rules, which requires the UK to have financial cushion of £9.9billion by the end of the decade.
In order to put the UK’s finances on a firm footing, experts from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research have said that Ms Reeves will have to raise taxes.
Prof Stephen Millard, from the institute, said: “We would advocate building a bigger buffer.
“To do that requires moderate but sustained increases in taxes.”
The think tank also upped its growth forecast for this year to 1.3 per cent but knocked their prediction for 2026 down to 1.2 per cent from 1.5 per cent.
Meanwhile, tax refund letters have started landing on doorsteps across the UK but Brits have been warned to watch out for scams.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by The Sun found that HMRC refunded a staggering £8.3billion in overpaid tax from 2022 until 2023 — with the average worker pocketing £943.
However, any letter or email which requires you to give your credit card details, transfer money or click a link should be avoided at all costs.
How do I check my tax code?
YOU can check your tax code on your personal tax account online, on any payslips or on the HMRC app.
To log in, visit www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account.
If you have one, you can also check it on a “Tax Code Notice” letter from HMRC.
Bear in mind that you might need your Government Gateway ID and password to hand to log in.
But if you don’t have this you can use your National Insurance number or postcode and two of the following:
A valid UK passport
A UK photocard driving licence issued by the DVLA (or DVA in Northern Ireland)
A payslip from the last three months or a P60 from your employer for the last tax year
Details of a tax credit claim if you have made one
Details from a self assessment tax return (in the last two years) if you made one
Information held on your credit record if you have one (such as loans, credit cards or mortgages)

Meanwhile, the hoover costs £199.99 on the Bosch website.
The vacuum can be used upright or handheld, making it perfect for cleaning floors and kitchen surfaces.
The device also folds completely flat, making it easy to clean in difficult to reach areas.
In some locations, the bakeries were enduring one robbery every twenty minutes – prompting the change.
One Greggs worker told The Sun: “The stealing before was so bad.
“I couldn’t put a number on how many thieves came in every day.”
At the time, a spokesperson for the bakery said: “This is one of a number of initiatives we are trialling across a handful of shops which are exposed to higher levels of anti-social behaviour.
“Safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority.”
