NEWCASTLE are set to fail in their club-record £70million bid for Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko – but will return with an improved offer.

Toon are offering £65.5m up front plus £4.3m in add-ons but the German club are expected to turn down the offer.

Leipzig are hoping for a bidding war between Manchester United and Newcastle, who are set to lose Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

Even if both clubs offer the same amount, Leipzig will look to increase the size of add-ons and the sell-on percentage.

Sesko, 22, is certain to leave Leipzig and he was left out of the club’s 2-1 friendly against Atalanta on Saturday.

The forward is understood to be happy to join EITHER club.

Leipzig sporting director Marcel Shafer said: “Due to the very concrete interest from several clubs, we have decided that he will not play today.

“When I say that strong interest has been registered and approaches have been made, it’s obvious what has happened.

“I would like to make it clear that this does not mean that he is on his way to another club.

“And it also does not mean that Benji will not be playing next week.”

Yet Sesko is still unlikely to play again for the club particularly as Leipzig are also keen to sell the player.

Wissa situation ‘not ideal’

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has given an update on the future of Yoane Wissa.

The striker is allegedly refusing to play for the club after the Bees rejected an offer from Newcastle, who then pulled out of signing him.

Andrews said: “The situation is that he is training at the training ground.

“It’s probably public knowledge at this stage that he left our training camp in Lisbon. That was probably the right decision for all parties. We had to support him in what is a difficult time for him.

“I think we have to remember that it’s not just about being a footballer, it’s the person and the human being first. 

“Again, it’s public knowledge that there is some interest in Wiss. We have to respect that and respect him.

“I have got a really good relationship with Yoane from last season and that’s still the case now, but obviously it’s not ideal.

“We have constant communication with Yoane around the situation. I think he’s OK to a point.

“When you look at the business we’ve done this season, the outgoings have been done early.

“This is probably not wanted or desired, certainly from my point of view. It’s not an ideal scenario but it’s what the transfer window is.”

THOUSANDS on Universal Credit and 11 other benefits can expect early payments this month.

Benefits are paid into your bank or building society account earlier if your usual payment date falls on a bank holiday or the weekend.

The next bank holiday is on Monday, August 25, meaning if you’re expecting a payment on this date it will be made on August 22.

So, if you check your statement on August 22 and notice a surprise amount of money, it will likely be your benefit being issued earlier.

If you are paid earlier than usual this month, make sure the money stretches further as you will have to wait longer than normal to get your next payment.

Universal Credit and 11 other benefits are paid on the first working day before a bank holiday. The full list is:

Anyone paid one of the above 12 benefits on August 22 instead of August 23, 24 or 25, should receive the same amount as usual.

The only reason the payment amount might change is if you have had a change in your circumstances.

For example, if you are on Universal Credit and your earnings have increased, your payment might go down.

If you are expecting a payment on August 22 and don’t receive it, contact the DWP.

You can also submit a complaint to the Government department to get a problem sorted if your payment is wrong.

After August, there are two more bank holidays before the end of the year which could impact when you receive your benefits.

Here’s when DWP or HMRC will make your payments:

• December 25 – payments will be made on December 24 instead
• December 26 – payments will be made on December 24 instead

Upcoming changes to Universal Credit and PIP

Last month, the Government U-turned on its welfare bill meaning Brits on Universal Credit and PIP will see fewer changes.

Sir Keir Starmer had been hoping to push through reforms that would have seen some benefit claimants receiving less money.

The Government had planned to make major changes to the health element of Universal Credit.

A single person who is aged 25 or over can receive the basic level of the benefit, which comes in at £400.14 every month.

But those getting an incapacity top-up due to a disability or long-term condition can get an extra £423.37.

The new plans mean that anyone up to the age of 22 will not be able to claim the health element.

Ministers had also tried to freeze the payment for the next four years but a commitment was made for it to go up with inflation.

That means people claiming the health element of Universal Credit and new claimants with the most severe conditions will see their incomes protected in real terms.

Meanwhile, PIP claimants would have faced stricter tests to qualify for support. 

The Government had put forward that people would need to score four points in one task such as washing and dressing to qualify for support. 

Currently they can qualify with eight points across multiple activities.

The Government initially partially u-turned, saying the changes would come into effect in November 2026, but anyone claiming the benefit before this date would not be impacted.

The cause of death for Hulk Hogan, pro wrestling icon and reality TV star, has been unveiled a week after he died at age 71.

A medical document reviewed on Thursday by The Times reveals that Hogan (born Terry Bollea) died of acute myocardial infarction, a heart attack, in other words. This reaffirms details that Florida police shared in an announcement of Hogan’s death last week. In a statement on Facebook, the Clearwater Police Department said that on the morning of July 24, it responded to a call for cardiac arrest, adding that first responders took Hogan to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

At the time, a representative for the wrestler also confirmed his death to The Times: “We are heartbroken. He was such a great human being and friend.”

The medical report, which confirmed his death was natural, also revealed that Hogan had a history of atrial fibrillation (AFib) and lived with “leukemia CLL.” The Mayo Clinic describes CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) as “a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow.” Hogan was also approved for cremation, according to the document.

Hogan gained popularity as a pro wrestler in the 1980s but expanded his legacy with endeavors in film, TV and politics. He famously broke into the national spotlight in 1983 when he signed with the WWE, formerly the World Wrestling Federation. He was known for his blond hair, dark spray tan, red and yellow ensembles and his infectious energy in the ring. He also pursued acting, with credits including “The A-Team,” “Love Boat,” “Suddenly Susan,” “Walker, Texas Ranger” and the animated “Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling” that featured him and other WWF stars in live-action segments. His TV career also notably includes the family reality TV series “Hogan Knows Best,” which included children Brooke and Nick.

He became vocal in politics later in life. Hogan became a vocal supporter of President Trump, channeling his wrestling persona at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Also paying tribute were WWE, Vice President JD Vance, and fellow former star wrestler Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Children Nick and Brooke each paid tribute to their famous father. Last week, Nick Hogan penned an emotional Instagram tribute to his “best friend” and “best dad in the world.”

Brooke broke her silence on her father’s death earlier this week on Instagram, reflecting on their bond, which she says “has never broken, not even in his final moments.”

“I know he’s at peace now, out of pain, and in a place as beautiful as he imagined. He used to speak about this moment with such wonder and hope,” she wrote. “Like meeting God was the greatest championship he’d ever have.”

There was quite the discovery about Joe Tate on Emmerdale on Friday, and Moira Dingle wasn’t standing for it.

Just this week the character learned from Joe that Kim Tate wanted to buy her farm. Joe claimed Kim had no intention to turn the land into a housing development or anything other than a farm, with a rather good offer on the table for farmer Moira.

Moira has faced losing her beloved home and business ever since the slurry leak months ago. With fines to pay and the farm not doing well at all, Moira has had to consider selling up. Moira already agreed to sell Annie Sugden’s land around the farm to Robert Sugden recently after his fake claims of wanting to carry in the family legacy.

Fans know he was actually planning to tell it onto Kim, while that plan fell apart this week with Robert changing his mind. As for the farm, Moira came to the decision to consider Kim’s offer which was shared to her by Joe, after another update from the water company brought the news Moira’s appeal had been rejected.

With Moira told by Joe she could remain as a tenant but they wanted ownership, she was keen – unaware that Joe was lying and planned to get the family out. While it was only a hint, he suggested a loophole would likely lead to her losing her home.

After Noel from the water board advised Moira that her appeal to get the fines called off had been rejected, she was left believing her only option was to sell. That was until Friday when she found out Joe was in cahoots with someone.

But it’s not Kim that Joe is working with to get his hands on the farm, and instead it was none other than Noel. Joe bribed the character to keep up the punishment hoping it would encourage Moira to give in and sell up.

Moira caught them in the act though, hearing them discussing the matter just as she was about to sign over the ownership. Realising she was being duped, she wasted no time in returning the unsigned papers and admitting what she’d found out.

Joe was mortified to realise he’d scuppered up his own dark plans, but soon he was back to threats. Moira stood her ground though, telling him she knew exactly what he was up to and how she wasn’t going to let him get away with it so easily.

She told her husband Cain all about it, who called Joe a snake. As Joe showed up at the farm and they continued their showdown, Moira let rip.

Moira said “she’d rather go under than sell to Kim”, while Joe told her the offer was still on the table but not for long. Moira was once again left with a decision to make but what will she do?

Unbeknownst to her though Joe was ready with his next move. He told Dawn Taylor that Moira was going to learn that “he gets what he wants” and that he was prepared to do whatever it takes to get it.

A RETIRED judge has shared top tips on what to do if presented with a private parking ticket.

Thousands of motorists across Britain know the feeling of thinking they’ve been unfairly handed a parking fine.

The unwelcome sight of a yellow sticker on your windscreen is always enough to ruin any motorist’s day.

But Stephen Gold, a retired judge, has revealed the three words that can help you beat a private parking ticket.

Speaking to the MailOnline, he said: “Getting a ticket after parking in a private car park does not mean you have committed any offence.

“It won’t lead to a criminal conviction, whether or not you pay it.

“You can challenge a ticket that has been wrongly issued, and the challenge could take you to the county court, where the park operator would have to sue you for non-payment to have any hope of getting you to pay up.”

THE THREE WORDS

The judge told the paper that a key defence against tickets is: “I knew nothing”.

This is a defence that counts on the you being able to prove that parking conditions were not properly indicated.

The operator would have to prove the conditions of parking were displayed on one or more notices that a reasonable motorist would have seen.

So if you only discovered the terms of parking upon returning – perhaps due to signs being inconspicuous or absent – the defence would hold.

It is always best to take photographs of the signs and their location within the car park if you want to use this defence.

The operator will likely try to rely on pictures of the signs within the car park – but these might not show exactly where they are.

APPEALS PROCESS

It comes as more and more car parks use number plate capturing cameras to send out tickets.

Sometimes this will result in a ticket being placed on your windscreen, but often these days a letter will be sent in the post.

If you wish to appeal a ticket, your first action should be to go to the car park operator.

An independent appeal would be the next step, and a final point would be going to a county court.

Coronation Street actress Natalie Anderson, who plays Danielle Silverton on the ITV soap, has responded to a new romance twist involving newcomer Noah on the show

One Coronation Street star has reacted to a new twist involving two characters, which comes as a shock to some residents.

Spoilers for next weeks episodes of the ITV soap revealed that sinister character Noah strikes up a romance with Danielle Silverton in upcoming scenes. The romance is exposed next week to Danielle’s ex Theo Silverton, who shares a sad past with Noah.

Noah was revealed to have been involved when Theo was forced into conversion therapy years earlier. Theo, who only recently began to accept his sexuality and started a relationship with Todd Grimshaw, has struggled with the trauma of his past.

Things have turned nasty with wife Danielle who was heartbroken when Theo revealed he was leaving her for Todd, with their children also meddling to stop this from happening. So when Theo finds out Noah and Danielle are now an item, he does not take it very well.

But is the relationship real, and does Noah have a sinister plan for Danielle amid his history with Theo and now his drama with Todd? Is Danielle using Noah to hurt Theo knowing what went down?

Speaking about the big twist and what’s ahead, Danielle actress Natalie Anderson revealed Noah’s real intentions for her character. She also teased whether Danielle was being genuine, and teased “messy” scenes ahead.

She shared: “Noah is so disappointed in Theo and his choice because he’s so devoutly religious. Noah is angry and thinks if you don’t want to take care of this amazing family, I will. He is stepping up to the plate, looking after Danielle and the children, keeping them in the faith, providing a happy, stable relationship.

“There’s an element of duty from Noah. He’s very cosy and getting his feet under the table. Its for him to keep the family unit together and make sure Danielle and the children are not questioning the faith as well.

“There’s an agenda for Noah to protect this family unit from this awfulness that is happening to her, and be the hero.” As for Danielle’s plans, she went on: “There’s two things happening. One is trying to show Theo what he’s missing with his family life, this is what he’s throwing away.

“And there might be an element of her trying to fill the void, Danielle and Theo were married for 19 years, that’s a huge amount of time. I’ve been with my husband 20 years and can’t even imagine him not being around. It’s a little bit of a rebound.”

Natalie added: “While she cares for Noah but is not completely committing wholeheartedly, she is kind of drawing this out a little bit. If there’s an opportunity to be around Theo, she will take it.

“On the one hand she wants to do the right thing by her kids, but the right thing for her would be for their dad to come home and she’s not going to give up on that.”

On what’s ahead, she said: “As you can imagine it does get messier and more heated. We fall into two camps between Danielle and Theo, and the children will be caught in the middle of that. It is difficult, and representative of a lot of families going through messy divorces.

“That’s been amazing to play and its not something I’ve done before, there’s a lot of figuring out what’s next and figuring out what’s best for the children. When it starts to become a legal thing, how nasty does that get?

“It’s one thing trying to sort it out between yourselves, but when it gets to that next level things becomes more weaponised. There are some calculating things coming up, I’m not sure the audience will still be on Danielle’s side after that!”

The Love Island villa is about to see yet another new bombshell stir things up, and this time, it could even result in another shock dumping

Love Island is set to experience a huge shake-up as a new contestant, Angel Swift, enters the villa in what could be the most dramatic bombshell so far this series.

The last episode showed, after taking part in a ranking challenge, an unexpected text asking the islanders to guess which three boys a brand new bombshell wants to get to know the most. Tonight’s episode, Friday July 18, will reveal all as viewers watch the latest bombshell turn some heads.

Her big TV entrance results in a rather cheeky conversation with the ever-controversial contestant, 30-year-old Harry Cooksley. While currently being coupled up with Helena Ford after a tumultuous start to their time in the villa, in a series of on-and-off-again recouplings, he entertains the new islander following her shock entrance.

Angel wastes no time getting her graft on and pulls Harry for a chat to see how he’s feeling about his current couple. As expected, it’s not long before their polite exchange turns saucy.

Harry makes intense eye contact when talking to her about mornings, saying: “You like the mornings, do you? What about…?” He stares at her intensely as he hints at a more sexual subject. Harry continues to say: “Cause I’m into that. Ends up with a little spooning.” Angel responds by telling him that she does “like being a little spoon”.

Intrigued, the OG islander asks the bombshell how her typical romantic interactions come about and if she finds she gets attached to boys easily. It’s then that Angel confesses why she can’t sleep with a boy casually, admitting: “When I sleep with someone, I get feelings. So I can’t sleep with them because I’m just like, ‘Ah, I’m in love.’”

In a flirtatious response, Harry jokes: “We might have to hold off on that spoon in the morning then.” When the conversation draws to a close Angel asks if the 30-year-old is ready to go and join the rest of the villa, but he’s pretty smitten. Harry responds to say: “No, I want to stay here with you.”

This isn’t the first time Harry has had his head turned, and it may not be the last. Despite his recent recoupling with Helena, it seems he can’t help but fall for a new girl, which will undoubtedly land him in more trouble with the girls in the villa.

Speaking before her villa debut, Angel confidently confessed her plans to go after exactly what she wants and knows that couples will be split in the process. She said: “That is what’s going to happen, so it’s quite exciting, really. That’s what I’m in there for.”

“I feel like people have been getting their heads turned very easily. I do feel like I have quite a good chance of turning someone’s head.”

Rumours are spreading online that Angel’s arrival will bring a new recoupling, which means she has to choose one of the boys to pair up with, leaving one of the girls single. Many are speculating that it could be a final goodbye for the likes of Toni, Shakira, or, after a rollercoaster relationship, Helena.

The future of BBC’s MasterChef has been revealed after both hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode have been axed from the popular show

The future of BBC’s MasterChef has been ‘revealed’ as – John Torode and Gregg Wallace‘s final series will reportedly still air – despite their double axing.

Last December, it was reported that Grace Dent would be joining John Torode in the kitchen for the next series of Celebrtity MasterChef after Gregg Wallace stepped back from the show following allegations against him. John and Gregg had also filmed an amateur series – as BBC and Banijay UK intend to still broadcast both.

Gregg Wallace’s position on MasterChef became “untenable” after 45 out of 83 allegations of inappropriate behaviour were upheld following a seven-month investigation. John was also axed from the show earlier this week after he confirmed he was the person alleged to have used racist language. However, he said he had no memory of making the comment and denies it ever happened.

The series, which has already been filmed and features celebrities including Love Island‘s Uma Jammeh and TV personality Ashley Cain, will reportedly still be shown on the broadcaster “once the dust has settled”.

The report comes after BBC Director-General Tim Davie announced that the impact on the show’s participants – would be a factor in whether the shows come to air or not.

“These past eight months have been truly hellish for all concerned,” a source told The Sun. “The BBC and Banijay have faced a moral and professional dilemma like never before. Obviously Gregg’s case was more clear cut, but John being dragged through the mud wasn’t what anyone wanted or expected to happen.

“But at the same time, and as a publicly funded body, the BBC has a duty to both provide entertainment as well as fulfil its obligations to cast, crew, contestants and ­viewers alike.”

The source then went on to say that hundreds of people who were involved in or worked on the shows would be “so bitterly disappointed” if they cancelled the show. They then claimed that the show will air “once the dust has settled and all the fuss died down.”

The BBC has been contacted by The Mirror for comment.

In a lengthy statement following John’s axe, the BBC said: “John Torode has identified himself as having an upheld allegation of using racist language against him. This allegation, which involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace, was investigated and substantiated by the independent investigation led by the law firm, Lewis Silkin. John Torode denies the allegation.

“He has stated he has no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment.

“The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode’s contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.”

St Ives, Robin Hood’s Bay and Padstow are among the UK’s most cherished spots, boasting awe-inspiring vistas. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that other beloved coastal locations include the South Downs’ expansive 100-mile stretch of picturesque views and Weymouth’s Georgian seafront.

The top 30 list also featured Pembrokeshire’s limestone cliff haven Lydstep, Devon’s yachting hotspot Salcombe and Berwick, a charming seaside town in the North East. The study, conducted by Haven, discovered that when holidaying in the UK, eight out of 10 people consider accommodation with a sea view important, with 35 percent said it was essential when going away.

Simon Palethorpe, CEO at Haven, commented: “You don’t need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery.

“Our parks are on some of Britain’s most stunning beaches and coastlines making them a great base for exploring the local area and enjoying the seaside.

“There’s nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea – even more so when it’s on home soil. Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK.”

The research also found eight in ten people consider a coastal location important when holidaying in the UK, with holidaymakers willing to travel an average of 159 miles from home for a seaside break.

Furthermore, 85 percent would be prepared to pay extra for such a view, with the maximum amount spent to secure a coastal view in the UK exceeding £550 for two people.

The willingness to pay a premium for a sea view was primarily driven by the sense of relaxation and escapism it provides, with results showing being by the coast is beneficial for both mental and physical health.

Data from the OnePoll.com also revealed that over two thirds believe that coastal views in the UK can easily compete with those found overseas.

Emmerdale fans think Robert Sugden has teamed up with a villager, but they don’t think it’s Kim Tate despite their ongoing secret plan that is set to be revisited next week

Robert Sugden has caused plenty of drama since his epic Emmerdale return just months ago.

Ryan Hawley sent viewers into meltdown with his surprise comeback after six years away, with Robert gatecrashing his ex-husband Aaron Dingle’s wedding to John Sugden, who happens to be Robert’s long-lost brother. Since his return to the village after his prison release, he’s struck up a feud with John, has planned to reunite with Aaron and he’s been back to his dodgy ways.

Striking up deals with drug dealer Ray and Home Farm owner Kim Tate, he’s wronged Moira Dingle and the Bartons and sparked plenty of chaos. But as he continues to plot and “bring mayhem” to the village, fans think he could be in cahoots with another villager in secret.

In fact, there’s two characters that fans are sure John could secretly be working or scheming with. Currently, Robert has led Moira to believe he wants to buy her farm land from her as it once belonged to his grandmother Annie Sugden.

Claiming he wanted to carry on his late father Jack Sugden’s legacy, he revealed he was keen to work on the land and offered Moira a price. Moira was keen with this, unaware he was lying to her face.

Robert wasted no time in telling Kim everything, about how he made Moira think he wanted the land for personal reasons. The pair then toasted their deal, as it emerged Robert was getting his hands on the land to then sell on to Kim.

This plot continues next week, but there seems to be some second thoughts. Robert realises just how desperate Kim is to get her hands on the land, and that land in particular.

It sparks alarm bells and makes him wonder what her true plan is, and what she might be hiding. He decides to do some digging to figure out what Kim is up to, and what the significance is of getting that land.

But will he pull out of the deal completely, and is Robert being screwed over? Viewers think he could be panicked because he’s actually teamed up with someone else.
