June 25 (UPI) — New York prosecutors will not retry disgraced film producer and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein on an unresolved rape charge related to actress Jessica Mann.

Prosecutors dropped the charges Thursday, more than six years after Mann, 40, first testified that Weinstein, 74, raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013. Weinstein’s initial conviction for the charge was overturned in 2024, followed by two mistrials.

The D.A.’s office said Mann did not wish to go through a fourth trial.

“To be clear, we believe Ms. Mann’s account and her credibility as a witness,” Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg said in a statement. “This has been an extraordinarily taxing ordeal for her, and she has never wavered while testifying in front of two grand juries and three trial juries over the course of eight years. We thank her for her honesty and her tremendous bravery.”

In a statement to the court, Mann said it became clear to her during the latest trial, held this spring, that she “could no longer endure going through this any longer.”

“In my fight to see justice, it has nearly stolen a decade of my life and put me through more harm than good,” she added. “Justice now has moved away from the courts, solely into the hands of God.”

Weinstein is still awaiting sentencing after being convicted in 2025 of sexually assaulting former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley.

He has served less than half of his 16-year sentence in California for separate charges of rape and sexual assault. More than 100 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct since 2017.

Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for third-degree rape.

The “Danger” rapper was arrested in the summer of 2022 and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Louisiana and charged with first-degree rape, simple robbery, domestic abuse battery–strangulation, false imprisonment and simple criminal damage to property after the victim identified the rapper as the suspect from the hospital where she was being treated for injuries.

According to Baton Rouge-based ABC affiliate WBRZ, the victim told a Louisiana courtroom on Tuesday that Mystikal, real name Michael Tyler, punched and choked her, pulled braids out of her hair and forcibly raped her during the 2022 incident. The victim requested the maximum sentence for the rapper.

“If I did that to you, I deserve the max sentence,” Tyler told the courtroom before he was sentenced to 20 years for third-degree rape, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years with no chance for early release or probation.

In March, Tyler entered a guilty plea, which knocked his first-degree rape charge down to third-degree. In Louisiana, first-degree rape carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. According to WBRZ, the rapper’s attorney filed a motion to withdraw the guilty plea days before Tyler was sentenced, but the motion was tossed.

The New Orleans-born artist was convicted more than two decades ago of sexual battery after pleading guilty to charges in 2003. He served six years in prison and was released in 2010.

The rapper was previously indicted in 2017 on rape and kidnapping charges stemming from allegations in 2016. He spent 18 months in jail before being released in 2019 on a $3-million bond, the Associated Press reported. The Caddo Parish district attorney in Louisiana ultimately dropped those charges in 2020 after a second grand jury declined to bring an indictment.

With his raspy vocal intensity and scream-like musical delivery, Mystikal shot to the top of the charts with Master P’s No Limit Records in the late 1990s. In 2004, the embattled rapper’s original label, Jive Records, released two compilations of his music, “Prince of the South … The Hits” and “Chopped & Screwed.”

June 15 (UPI) — Marius Borg Hoiby has been found guilty of two counts of rape and other charges and sentenced to four years in prison.

Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has also been convicted for domestic violence, violent threats and filming people without their consent. He pleaded guilty to assault, harassment and malicious damage to property but denied four counts of rape.

While Hoiby is the eldest son of the crown princess and stepson to Norway’s heir, he is not a member of the royal family.

Hoiby faced two more counts of rape but the three judges at the Oslo District Court acquitted him on those counts. However, he is ordered to pay damages to the four women who accused him of rape in the amount of nearly $61,000.

Hoiby’s attorneys have pleaded for his release from prison so he can be with his mother who has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and is seeking a lung transplant. The Oslo District Court granted his release last week but the decision was overturned on appeal.

Earlier this year, it was revealed in a tranche of files released by the U.S. Department of Justice that Mette-Mait had a three-year friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Prosecutors in the case sought a sentence of seven years in prison for the 39 charges Hoiby faced. They also wanted Hoiby banned from communicating with one of the alleged victims and to have several of his devices confiscated, including three iPhones and a MacBook.

In the case of all four rape charges, the victims were either asleep or incapacitated.

The allegations against Hoiby involved six women. One of them testified that she was incapacitated or asleep when Hoiby raped her in March 2024.

Hoiby also admitted to transporting marijuana.

Actor-comedian Elon Gold and pro-Israel influencer Lizzy Savetsky are facing backlash after making an “offensive” joke in an interview on the red carpet for “The Wedding Entertainer (The Tale of Moishe Badhan)” at the Tribeca Festival.

In the interview, Gold said the film was shot in Israel. “I was only raped by two Israeli dogs,” he said.

“I thought they only rape Palestinians,” Savetsky replied, to which he said: “No, I got also a dog.”

The clip spread widely on social media and drew outrage. In a statement posted on social media, the Tribeca Festival called the remarks “offensive and unacceptable.”

“Sexual violence and human suffering should never be mocked or minimized,” the statement said. “The comments do not reflect the Tribeca Festival’s values, and we regret the hurt and offense they have caused.”

The statement said the festival had not been able to reach the filmmakers. A Tribeca spokesperson said Savetsky was not in the film and was not credentialed by the festival, but was invited to the premiere by the film team.

Gold’s manager did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In a video statement posted to social media, Savetsky said the remarks were in reference to a “ridiculous claim” in the New York Times that Israeli officials trained dogs to rape Palestinians.

The paper “published this piece with zero evidence. And we’re all just supposed to sit here with a straight face and take it like it is some sort of truth.”

She added that the film festival is a “forum that is meant to spark dialogue” and that Jewish comedians throughout history have used humor as a way to cope with anti-Semitism.

“The Wedding Entertainer” tells the story of a disgraced Hasidic comedian who is looking to book one last gig to raise the $20,000 he needs to marry off his daughter. He convinces his childhood best friend to let him co-host his son’s wedding alongside a “younger and flashier” wedding MC — played by Gold —who had already been hired. Gold is also an executive producer.

Channel 4 has removed all previous seasons of Married at First Sight UK from its streaming platforms.

It comes after the BBC reported that two women said they were raped during filming of the dating show, while a third described an allegation of a non-consensual sex act.

Channel 4 said that all previous seasons of MAFS UK have been removed from its streaming and linear services, and it announced that in April it commissioned an external review into contributor welfare.

Priya Dogra, chief executive of Channel 4 said: “I want to express my sympathy to contributors who have clearly been distressed after taking part in Married At First Sight UK. The wellbeing of our contributors is always of paramount importance.

“It would be wholly inappropriate for me to comment on what are very serious allegations made against some MAFS UK contributors.

“Those allegations – which I understand are disputed by the contributors accused – are not something that Channel 4 is in a position to adjudicate on.

“We are also mindful of our ongoing duty of care to all contributors, and the need to preserve the anonymity and privacy of all involved.

“On the claims that Channel 4 may have failed in its duty of care, I believe that when concerns about contributor welfare were raised, and based on the information available at the time, Channel 4 acted quickly, appropriately, sensitively and with wellbeing front and centre.”

Channel 4 today announced that in April it commissioned an external review into contributor welfare on Married at First Sight UK (MAFS UK).
