Sao Paulo Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton says F1 needs to address lack of ‘transparency’ of race stewards

He added: “It’s something that definitely needs to be tackled. But that’s probably something that needs to be done in the background, I would imagine.”

Hamilton made an oblique reference to the 2021 championship decider in Abu Dhabi, where he controversially lost out on the title to Verstappen as a result of former race director Michael Masi failing to apply the rules correctly during a late-race safety car period.

At the time, race stewards declined to overturn Masi’s decisions. The Australian was later fired by governing body the FIA, before a report into the incident concluded that Masi’s decisions were the result of “human error”.

Speaking before this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Hamilton said: “I don’t know if they’re aware of the weight of their decisions. They ultimately steer careers. Can decide results of championships, as you’ve seen in the past. Some work needs to be done there, I’m sure.”

The FIA does not comment on stewards’ decisions as they are meant to operate independently from the governing body.

Strictly Come Dancing star Lewis Cope makes series history as he secures huge score

Emmerdale star Lewis Cope has scored the first 40 of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing after impressing all four judges with his Couple’s choice set to a Radiohead classic

Emmerdale star Lewis Cope has scored the first 40 of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. The actor, 30, took to the stage with professional partner Katya Jones in the latest round of the BBC Saturday night favourite to perform their Couple’s choice to Creep by Radiohead, and it all started with an emotional VT focusing on Lewis’ family.

The soap actor left his hometown of Hartlepool in the North East at the age of just 10 so he could star as Michael in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical, and Lewis explained that he went in a completely different direction to his brothers, who chose to go in boxing. Speaking about his family, he said: “They believed in me more than I believed in myself to be honest. The first person I called when I found out I was doing Strictly was Nana Dot. She’s the queen of the family.”

His grandmother then made an appearance, where she noted how ‘proud’ she was of Lewis, and the whole family spoke of how important it was that they gathered around every week to watch him. Following the dance, the audience cheered. Craig simply clapped and said: “As it’s Halloween, darling, that was spooktacular!”

Motsi said: “I’m so glad I had a few moments to calm down. This is one of those moments that we’re going to look at in five or ten yeas and say ‘Remember when Lewis Cope did that thing?!’

Shirley added: “I’m having an emotional moment so I’m just going to hold my skeleton. Leaving home at 10, my message isn’t for you, it’s for our Nana Dot, for your mum, siblings and for everybody for giving you to all of us so we could enjoy that brilliant, phenomenal work. Well done you!”

Anton said: “It is [the best] dance of this series, by about a million miles. But Craig and I have been here since the very, very beginning and that dance was as good as anything we’ve seen on any series. There was nothing you could have done to make that any better!” All four judges then awarded Lewis a 10, making him the first to receive a perfect score.

At home, viewers were equally as thrilled and flooded social media with their reactions. One said: “Been a long long time since I’ve seen a dance on #Strictly that I’ve wanted to watch again immediately! Lewis and Katya! Holy fucking s***!,” and another said: “Outstanding!!!!! Lewis & Katayka ! We have first perfect score! 40!”

A third said: “Lewis was always going to get the first 40!” With 13 siblings, life in the Cope household came at a frenetic pace, often centred around boxing. His brothers Adam, Danny and Peter all won the Northern area title as professional fighters. “I boxed and still train now, but back then it was more a social thing to be with my brothers – that’s what I enjoyed,” he says.

Instead dance became his passion which for some young boys could have led to derision. “Being from a working-class town 20 years ago, there was always that bit of pressure but my family were so supportive that I never felt it,” he says, before laughing: “Having so many brothers that did boxing also helped.”

In any case, the concept of particular sports being for specific genders is “outdated”, he says, adding: “I do think the world has changed from 20 years ago when it happened to me. We have come a long way.” Lewis has so far taken Strictly by storm, finishing second in the combined judges’ scoreboards of weeks one and two.

It’s even more impressive given he was a last minute replacement for Game of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn “I didn’t have time to really think….I just had to try and take it all in my stride,” he says.

“I have never done a TV show like this before. But it seems I’ve gone into the biggest one. There wasn’t even a warm-up. On a serious note, it’s been fine; everyone has been supportive and full of love.”

Mexico City Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton hails ‘amazing’ qualifying

Lewis Hamilton hailed his best qualifying result at Ferrari for Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix as a “huge step” after what he described as a “hard slog” of a season so far with the team.

The seven-time world champion will start third after an impressive display from Ferrari, with team-mate Charles Leclerc finishing second fastest behind Lando Norris, who secured pole position.

Hamilton has endured a difficult time since joining from Mercedes last winter – and has yet to win a race for the team.

He faces a tough task in changing that statistic this weekend with Norris looking imperious, although three of the past five races in Mexico have been won from third.

But Hamilton is just happy to see things improving for the team.

“Definitely happy to be making progress and finally be up there,” he said.

“Charles has been used to these results, or at least being close to the front most of the year, but for me it has been a hard slog, being like sixth, seventh or eighth – mostly eighth.

“So to get P3 is a huge step for us and I am really grateful for the efforts of the team and the amazing support I’ve had from the team.”

This is also the first time this season that both Ferraris have qualified in the top three and Hamilton added: “These guys have been so quick all year and it’s an amazing feeling.

“The team truly deserve it, so we are just working as hard as we can and I’m super grateful to everyone in this team for continuing to push and not give up.”

Mexico City Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton calls Max Verstappen ‘cut-throat’ in title race

The McLaren drivers go into the final five races free to race with each other and with no internal team rules hanging over them – other than not to crash with one another.

Norris had been facing undefined “repercussions” after colliding with Piastri while taking third place from him at the first sequence of corners in Singapore.

Following the crash between the two at the start of the sprint at the US Grand Prix last weekend, these have now been removed.

“There is a degree of responsibility from my side in the sprint and we are starting this weekend within a clean slate for both of us, just going out and going racing,” said Piastri.

The Australian, who won at Zandvoort, has seen his lead erode after being beaten by Norris in each of the past four races, but he said he had also been surprised Verstappen had come into the equation so quicky.

“The run of form he’s had since Monza has been a bit of a surprise,” said Piastri.

“There were flashes earlier in the season but there were also some pretty big dips. We know they have been throwing a lot of things at their car trying to improve it but he has come to the fight quicker than I expected.”

However, when asked if he was concerned about Verstappen, Piastri said: “It’s not really something I think about. He has been consistent and strong the last few weekends but there is no benefit in worrying about or focusing on that.

“The thing that’s going to help me win the championship is get the most out of myself, the car, the team. He’s there, he’s in the fight but ultimately it doesn’t change how I go about my racing.”

Norris added: “Max has had very good form the last month or so. They have been performing better than we have.

“He has won a good amount of races and he’s Max Verstappen. You’d be silly if you didn’t want to give Max a chance.

“At the minute, they are in better form, a lot of races they have been quicker. But we still have chances. We have a better car from now until the end of the season and we just have to make use of that.”

Verstappen said: “It’s clear we had a good run, definitely been enjoying it a lot more like that and we will try to carry that momentum forward. We know we need to be perfect to the end to have a chance, but we just try to maximise everything and see where we end up.”

US Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton says report Ferrari are considering Christian Horner as future boss ‘distracting’

The seven-time champion is a supporter of Vasseur, who was instrumental in signing him.

Speaking during the drivers’ news conference before this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, Hamilton said: “It is a little bit distracting for us as a team. The team have made it clear where they stand in terms of re-signing Fred.

“Fred and the whole team are working really hard on a future for the team.”

Vasseur’s contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but it was renewed just two and a half months ago.

Ferrari tend not to comment on stories about the future of the team, considering it media speculation.

But when reports linking Horner to the team first emerged in the summer, Ferrari used channels to communicate to the media that there was no truth in the claim. The company’s position has not changed since.

Lewis Crocker: Manny Pacquiao, Conor Benn or Belfast option’s for first title defence

Although that option is viable, it is much more likely Crocker will either face Benn or enjoy another big night in Belfast for a first voluntary defence.

However, much will depend on the outcome of November’s middleweight rematch between Benn and Chris Eubank Jr in terms of when Benn could be ready to return to the ring and drop back to welterweight.

The updated IBF rankings have former light-welterweight champion Liam Paro in the number two position with Donovan, who is understood to be appealing September’s decision at Windsor Park, in third.

A successful outcome for Donovan would most likely see him retain his high ranking and secure a final eliminator against Paro for the mandatory slot.

“Benn is the fight Crocker wants and he is confident he will beat him,” Conlan confirmed.

“That’s all well and good and the numbers are exciting, but you are putting Lewis’ livelihood on hold in hope of what will happen in another fight [Eubank-Benn II] and it doesn’t work like that, so get something booked for Belfast and most likely that’s what will happen next. If they [Matchroom] control the situation with the mandatory, then it can be pushed off and we can do Benn [after a first voluntary].

“There are still a few moving parts to happen, but I think Paro will fight Donovan or Karen Chukhadzhian next.

“Donovan’s team have appealed so his ranking hasn’t moved. That could be good news for ‘Croc’ as his mandatory will be kept on the long finger if Paro is out in the early part of next year. That could give us the opportunity of two voluntaries before we have a mandatory.”

Lewis Moody: Will Greenwood leads support for ‘wonderful human being’

Kevin Sinfield, who was awarded a CBE for his services to the motor neurone disease community after his friend Burrow’s diagnosis inspired him to raise more than £10m to fund research and awareness, sent Moody a message of support and made a fresh vow to tackle the disease.

“I’m obviously very saddened by the news,” said Sinfield, who is the skills and kicking coach for the England national team. “I’d like to wish Lewis, and all his family and friends, the very best.

“I’ll support in any way I can. We have to keep fighting MND [motor neurone disease] together.”

Andrea Pinchen, CEO at Leicester Tigers where Moody made 223 appearances, winning seven English titles and two European crowns over 14 years, also paid tribute to Moody as a person, as well as a player.

“The figures, trophies and awards tell you what an incredible player Lewis was, but that is only half the story,” said Pinchen.

“One minute he’s parading around with the World Cup trophy and the following Friday he’d be in the ticket office where I worked, answering the phone to supporters if we were really busy and helping sell tickets.

“As an individual, his commitment to his club along with his warmth and passion shone through, which endeared him to team-mates, staff and supporters alike.

“Always looking to help others, Lewis together with his wife Annie have worked tirelessly through the Lewis Moody Foundation, supporting research into brain tumours and helping affected families.

“He absolutely threw himself in. It was very much lead by example. He would never ask somebody to do something he wouldn’t do himself. He is utterly fearless.”

Football’s Leicester City added their support, describing Moody as “a sporting great of our city”., external

Taylor Swift left in hysterics over Lewis Capaldi’s awkward outfit blunder

Lewis Capaldi left the audience and Taylor Swift in fits of laughter after actress Jodie Turner-Smith pointed out that he was wearing the same outfit from Glastonbury while on Graham Norton show

Singer Lewis Capaldi left everyone in fits of giggles including Taylor Swift, during his appearance on The Graham Norton Show after his outfit blunder was made public. The hitmaker, 28, was on the show to speak about his return to the limelight after taking a much needed break.

A picture of him returning to the stage at Glastonbury this year was shown to the audience. And it was at this point actress Jodie Turner-Smith noticed that he was wearing the exact same outfit on the BBC show, as he was at Glastonbury.

This sparked a roar of laughter among audience and the stars on the same sofa, including Taylor Swift, who was promoting her latest album The Life of a Showgirl.

Jodie turned to Lewis and said: “You’ve got the same outfit on.” In response, clearly feeling embarrassed, he said: “You’ve very graciously pointed out that I’m wearing the exact same f****** thing.” The star added: “If it looks okay, let’s wear it again.”‘ The moment left the audience and guests, including Taylor Swift, in fits of laughter.

Lewis had taken a 734 day sabbatical in order to deal with his mental health after he had been unable to continue his Glastonbury set back in 2023.

Crediting the support by online therapy group BetterHelp, Lewis continued: “There’s a lot of mentally ill people out there, Graham, and they need my help. Therapy’s been a big thing for me in getting back to this position and getting back to a place where I can feel comfortable enough to come and do this stuff.”

Lewis was promoting his latest EP titled Survive which will be released later this year. Last month, the star took to social media and posted a heartfelt message which he shared with fans.

Returning to the stage for the first time in two years he wrote: “What a night! First weekend back on tour after two years away. Thank you all for making it so incredible. So good to be back.”

He added: “Thank you so much for still being here. I’m genuinely humbled that this is still a possibility for me. It means the world. This is generally quite overwhelming. First headline show since 2023, thank you all for making it so special Sheffield.”

One track that Lewis seems particularly proud of is The Day That I Died.

He told fans: “This is probably the most personal song I’ve ever written. And I know people say this all of the time. This was a song that I wrote at a time when I didn’t know if I would be around. It’s the saddest I have ever been. Honestly, it’s nice to be back, but over these past few years things were difficult. This song is about the most difficult time.”

After suffering form anxiety while on the Glastonbury stage, Lewis penned: “Hello everyone. First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.”

He added: “The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.”

He then concluded: “I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can. All my love, always, Lewis x.”

Two touchdowns in first half help Crenshaw defeat Dorsey

With Dorsey grad Mustard providing a rousing halftime concert aided by a Super Bowl-like sound system and Nike supplying players with much-appreciated sports apparel, the rivalry football game between host Crenshaw and Dorsey on Friday night was both loud and hip. The school colors blue and green were worn proudly by both sides.

On the field, Crenshaw (5-1) came away with a 12-8 victory on the strength of a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kyion Rattler and a 20-yard touchdown reception by Deonce’ Lewis, both in the first half, for a 12-0 halftime lead.

Lewis provided a spark with big catch after big catch from quarterback Danniel Flowers. Lewis had five receptions for 77 yards.

This was a Coliseum League opener to determine which team might be able to give King/Drew competition for first place. Dorsey (2-4) hadn’t scored in its previous two games before Makhi McCluster ran three yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter.

Absent from the game was Crenshaw coach Robert Garrett, who missed his first Dorsey-Crenshaw game since he took over as head coach in 1988. Garrett is on administrative leave, receiving full pay and assigned to home. He went to Friday’s Sierra Canyon-Gardena Serra game in Chatsworth to watch a couple players on both teams with Crenshaw ties, including the brother of former Crenshaw standout De’Anthony Thomas.

Garrett’s longtime assistants have been running the team, with Terrence Whitehead the interim coach.

“We miss him so much,” Lewis said of Garrett, who prepared the team through the summer. “That’s all we play for. Without him, none of this is possible. We have to keep going. The other coaches are stepping up. I’m very proud of them.”

As long as Garrett eventually returns as head coach, every Crenshaw victory this season will count toward his pursuit of 300 career victories, according to CalHiSports.com. He’s at 295 career wins, the winningest coach in City Section history. But when his administrative leave will be resolved remains uncertain.

For now, Crenshaw is progressing. The team that struggled with player turnout in recent years had 30 players on Friday listed as suiting up. Three players from eight-man power Animo Robinson have made an impact in the transition to 11-man football.

“They’re great add ons,” Lewis said.

Also contributing has been sophomore defensive lineman Jeremiah Alexander, who was playing drums in the school band at this time last year. Garrett got him to come out, and Alexander had a sack before being taken out because of an injury.

Dorsey put the pressure on Crenshaw in the second half behind two sacks from Saul Avila-Machado.

Crenshaw got the ball back clinging its 12-8 lead with 4:53 left and was able to run out the clock thanks to clutch completions by Flowers to De’Andre Kirkpatrick for nine yards and Lewis for 20 yards.

Lewis said it was “cool” that Mustard performed at halftime, but he and his teammates were too busy with football to listen. “We have to show the City is still alive,” he said.

How to have the best Sunday in L.A., according to Jenny Lewis

When Jenny Lewis was born, her parents were part of Loves Way, a musical lounge act in Las Vegas. After they split up when she was 3 years old, she moved with her mom, her older sister and their babysitter (a female Elvis impersonator from Memphis, Tenn.) to the San Fernando Valley.

In Sunday Funday, L.A. people give us a play-by-play of their ideal Sunday around town. Find ideas and inspiration on where to go, what to eat and how to enjoy life on the weekends.

Lewis remained in the Valley for most of her life, with some sojurns to the Eastside of L.A., Nashville and New York. Now she’s firmly back in the Valley, except, of course, when she’s on tour.

Lewis is a former child actor (you may remember her from “Troop Beverly Hills” and “The Wizard”), but has spent her adulthood as a celebrated musician who has released five solo albums, including 2023’s “Joy’All.”

She recently reunited with her bandmates in Rilo Kiley, the indie rock group that captured millennial hearts in the early 2000s. They are currently touring the United States and will play two local shows at the Greek Theatre on Oct. 14 and 18. Calling from a hotel in Nashville, she details what she likes to do on Sundays when she’s back in L.A.

This interview has been lightly edited for length and clarity.

8:36 a.m.: Caffeinate, let the dog sleep in
I tend to wake up almost every day at 8:36. When I look at the clock, nine times out of 10, it’s 8:36.

I have a cockapoo, Bobby Rhubarb, she’s 4 1/2, so my life kind of revolves around her. I actually wake up earlier than Bobby, who tends to loaf about in bed until 11 a.m. She gets her zoomies around midnight because she was raised on the road. The first year of her life, three months of it was spent opening for Harry Styles and living on a tour bus. She’s on tour schedule perpetually.

So I get up — I’m very quiet so as to not disturb her — and then I’ll make coffee. I love Canyon Coffee. It’s a single-origin organic roaster based in L.A., run by this really cute couple.

9:30 a.m.: Love to clean, clean to love
Sunday is my clean-the-house day. I’m a bit of a neat freak, and now that I live on my own, I can indulge my tendencies. It’s also really good exercise. I’m typically working out a couple days a week, but cleaning is an active thing to do and it’s very loving when you are lucky enough to own a home. You don’t really get to know a house until you get on your hands and knees and clean the floor.

11 a.m.: Open-hearted flea market-ing
The first Sunday of the month is the Pasadena City College Flea, second Sunday is the Rose Bowl, third is Long Beach and fourth is Topanga. I prefer the first and the fourth Sundays. I like the smaller fleas, and there are a couple of vendors that go to both PCC and Topanga that have amazing stuff. I have relationships with them where they’ll be like, “Oh, I pulled this with you in mind.”

Flea market vendors tell the history of where you are. These people are experts on old chimayos and Navajo blankets and Midcentury Modern furniture. If you stick around, you learn a lot about stuff that you never thought you needed to know about.

For me, the nature of thrifting and flea market-ing is based on an open heart and a generous spirit. I’m always donating and going through my closet and putting it back into the thrifting community. When I offload a bunch of stuff rather than sell it, I feel like I will be lucky at the flea market.

You can’t really go with any expectations; that’s not really how it works. I’ve been looking for the perfect fake leopard-skin coat for 20 years. I actually have a new song that has that as one of the lyrics. Maybe one day I’ll find it.

2:30 p.m.: Chinese food cravings
If this is a Pasadena day, it’s an opportunity to get Chinese food, which I crave on Sundays. I’ll sometimes go to Woon. It’s really close to where a lot of things burned down [in the Eaton fire], so it’s pretty cool to go there and support that spot.

It can be a little jammed on Sundays, so sometimes I’ll go to the Glendale Galleria — also jammed, but in a different way — and Din Tai Fung.

I always park on the top deck. You get a little sunshine. If you need to smoke a little doob, you can do that, or not. And you just walk right over the bridge into JCPenney, which I love walking through.

Din Tai Fung, there’s a hack if you’re by yourself, or if you’re two people: You can sit at the bar and not wait an hour. I’m gluten-free. Normally you would get dumplings, which look amazing and I want to eat them, but I can’t eat them. I’ll get the beef broth soup — it’s unbelievable — and some vegs. Depending on the day, sometimes they tell you the glass noodles are gluten-free and sometimes they tell you they’re not, so I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone who is celiac.

3:30 p.m.: Mall massage break
Out in the middle of the mall, near the Uniqlo, there’s the best 30-minute chair massage. It’s just incredible. And I’m a big mall massage aficionado.

I prefer it to a bougie massage. I would rather do a Thai-style massage where you have your clothes on or Chinese acupressure. Typically mall kiosks are Chinese acupressure. It is the best massage for what I’m looking for, which is something very strong and therapeutic.

I don’t need to go to the spa, especially when I’m on the road. Oftentimes, the bus will be at a Radisson on a day off and there’s a mall across the highway. I’ll always look for the massage at the mall, and it sets me straight.

I’ve written so many songs while getting a massage in the mall, because there’s always ambient music that you can’t totally make out. There’s something about that and the sound of people — it’s a very freeing frequency for me to write lyrics.

5 p.m.: Dinner provisions
I’m heading back to Mint Chip, which is the name of my house, to see Bobby. On Sundays, depending on what I had for lunch, we will do either burger night or grass-fed filet mignon night.

I’ll stop at Gelson’s, and they’ve got two grass-fed fillets that are relatively reasonable. I’ll get a baked potato or mashed potatoes, a salad, pick up a bottle of natural wine and then go home and make dinner for myself and Bobby.

I like things well-done, which no one likes to hear, but it’s the reality. If you’re my guest or my dog and you like things a little bit more rare, I’m happy to make it your way for you.

I’ve become a really good cook and I make a great martini. I make the Mint Chip Martini. I call it a maximalist martini because it’s extra dirty, olives and a twist. It disguises the alcohol. I just look at the vermouth — I don’t put it in the martini; I glance at it, and that’s enough vermouth.

I couldn’t do anything before the pandemic, so I really cherish that time of learning how to take care of myself.

8 p.m.: Cult classics
I have a projector set up in my living room that projects onto a white wall. I’ve been really into this app called Night Flight [Plus]. “Night Flight” was a cult late-night TV series [it originally ran on the USA Network from 1981 to 1988]. They played a lot of music videos, punk and heavy metal docs. Now they have this awesome streaming app, so you can watch these old episodes. Right now, there’s a movie called “Kin-Dza-Dza!” from 1986. I love that Soviet stuff. Music from that era is so weird and cool.

10 p.m.: Bedtime with crime
I’ll take Bobby out before bed and then we will go into the master bedroom. I will typically listen to an audiobook or a podcast and then it’s off to sleep.

I am a true crime enthusiast, so I’ve listened to all of them. As of late, I really enjoyed “Crooked City.” Also, “Up and Vanished: In the Midnight Sun” is great. I really like Payne Lindsey and all of his shows. There’s another great one called “Dead and Gone,” which is the crimes that happened in the surrounding areas of Grateful Dead shows. It’s like the full Grateful Dead history. I love the Dead, but I learned a lot about the Dead listening to that, and I was really just listening for the crime.

I’m considering a career shift into forensics. I mean, not really, but I’ve been to CrimeCon; I want to go to CrimeCamp. I’m obsessed. And again, this happened during the pandemic because there was never space for me to truly indulge my hobbies. I’m educating myself.

Newcastle: Lewis Miley backed by Joelinton and Eddie Howe after ‘stick’ from online critics

Joelinton says it was troubling to see Newcastle United team-mate Lewis Miley “get stick” after a landmark moment, but the Brazilian believes genuine supporters are firmly behind the teenager.

Miley chose to limit replies to a post he made on X to mark his 50th first-team game for Newcastle at the weekend. It is understood this was a precaution as he is still young.

The 19-year-old put in an accomplished display in the goalless draw against Bournemouth – his first Premier League start since February – but he still came in for criticism from a small minority of social media users who questioned his first-team credentials.

Miley’s course of action on the social media platform was noticed, and fans have since sent messages of support, while captain Bruno Guimaraes hailed his fellow midfielder as a “top player and guy”.

Joelinton played alongside academy graduate Miley in Newcastle’s 4-1 win against Bradford City on Wednesday night and said the youngster has a “great future in front of him”.

“It’s always difficult when you see your team-mate get stick,” Joelinton said following the Carabao Cup third-round tie. “I have had a difficult time here, too. I know how it is.

“I know the fans are behind the team and a really good young player. He played really well on Sunday. The team has to get better and everyone has to look on the mirror and get better.”

Miley praised Newcastle’s “amazing” travelling support in his post on Sunday, saying he was “very proud” to have hit the milestone for his boyhood club.

The midfielder broke a number of records during a breakout campaign at Newcastle a couple of years ago, including becoming the youngest player in Champions League history to provide an assist for an English side by doing so at the age of 17 years and 226 days.

Miley went on to suffer back and foot injuries and has faced intense competition for a starting berth while competing with fellow midfielders Guimaraes, Joelinton and Sandro Tonali.

But Miley, tellingly, kept his place in Eddie Howe’s starting line-up for the visit of Bradford.

“I thought Lewie was excellent,” the Newcastle head coach said. “In part, I think he really helped us in the first half. He played some lovely little deft touches and short passes into midfield using Joe and Bruno as a springboard, really, to control that midfield area.

“He’s come back into the team and produced two really good performances back-to-back. I thought he was really good against Bournemouth in maybe a slightly different way to tonight, but he’s developing his experience all the time and I’m really pleased with him.”

Stacy Lewis: US Solheim Cup-winning captain to retire from golf

Stacy Lewis, the captain of the United States’ 2024 Solheim Cup-winning team, says she will retire from golf at the end of the LPGA season.

The 40-year-old won 13 LPGA titles, including two majors, and led the United States to victory over Europe in last year’s Solheim Cup.

She also spent 25 weeks as world number one and was named LPGA Player of the Year in 2012 and 2014.

Lewis’ achievements came despite being diagnosed with curvature of the spine at the age of 11 and spending the next seven years wearing a back brace for 18 hours a day.

“Never in a million years would I have thought this journey playing golf would still be going in 2025, but the time has come to put the clubs away,” Lewis wrote on social media.

“I am going to miss the LPGA Tour family and this part of my life, but my body has told me it’s time.”

Lewis’ two major victories were at the 2011 Chevron Championship and the 2013 women’s British Open.

She represented the United States four times at the Solheim Cup as a player and twice as captain – including last year’s dramatic 15½-12½ victory in Virginia – as well as finishing in a share of fourth place at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Lewis Crocker vs Paddy Donovan 2 LIVE RESULTS: Reaction as brutal rematch is decided on SPLIT DECISION

Crocker vs Donovan R8

Lewis Crocker has stunned Belfast with his gameplan and conviction

Crocker vs Donovan R7

Lewis Crocker has put on a masterclass in Belfast.

Two knockdowns to the good after a clinic in counter punching.

Six months ago, Donovan bossed the original bout but he lost on a DQ.

Crocker entered the rematch the underdog, but he’s showing bark and bite and brain and brawn.

Donovan has now suffered two knockdowns and counts.

But trainer Billy Nelson now tells him to flip the tactics and get on the front foot.

The counter-punching has worked so well. Will the 180 be a mistake?

Donovan now needs knockdowns or this will slip away.

But that could play right into counter-punching Crocker’s heavy hands.

Two 10-8 rounds must have given Crocker the lead and Donovan needs to match those scores.

Donovan down R5!

Donovan is trying to land combinations now, to take the upperhand and block Crocker counters.

Just when Donovan looks like banking another session, he is smashed again and folds.

Donovan gets back to his corner after the count and tells Andy Lee: “I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED”

Another 10-8 round to Crocker

Crocker buzzed by a lazer of a left-hand uppercut but his legs stay solid.

Then he spins it by smashing Donovan back and wobbling him.

Donovan is clawing back from that early knock down and he is still struggling to adapt to Crocker’s shock counter-punch tactics.

Lewis Crocker vs Paddy Donovan 2 LIVE RESULTS: Action on NOW as Molly McCann makes boxing debut – latest

Going to be a ‘thriller’

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes Lewis Crocker can cause a shock tonight.

Hearn said: “Lewis, I think mentally he’s in a much better place because he’s not putting any pressure on himself.

“Paddy’s the big favourite in the fight because of how the first fight played out, but I think this will be a totally different Lewis Crocker.

“I think physically he looks totally different this time around, and he has to be better.

“I thought he was poor in the first fight, and I think he knows he was poor in the first fight.

“I think Paddy Donovan has to be the favourite going into the fight, but I think Lewis Crocker’s well in this and is Paddy a little bit too complacent?

“He wouldn’t have trained that way because Andy [Lee] wouldn’t let him.

“I know that’s not a technical term, but Lewis Crocker can punch and punch hard.

“He’s got to take chances, he’s gotta roll the dice, and he’s gotta let his hands go and if he does, you’re gonna get a thriller.

“I mean we’re gonna have close to 20,000 here at Windsor Park, it’s gonna be absolutely wild.”

Martin Lewis says ‘six-year rule’ means some Brits are owed £100s without realising

Speaking on This Morning, the money saving expert Martin Lewis turned his forensic hand to the topic of flight compensation and when you will and won’t be entitled to some cash

Martin Lewis has highlighted a little-known six-year rule that means you may be entitled to compensation without realising it.

Speaking on This Morning, the money saving expert turned his forensic hand to the topic of flight compensation. While many will know that, under EU law adopted by the UK following Brexit, passengers are often entitled to financial compensation following lengthy flight delays, they may not be aware of a useful bit of small print.

“Did anyone have a flight delay or cancellation this summer? Or actually, the law says you can go back six years, except in Scotland where it is five years. So if you’ve had this happen to you during this time, except in certain circumstances, you are entitled to a fixed amount of compensation. £520 per person, so a family of four is over a grand, depending on the length of flight and the length of the delay and some other things,” Martin told Cat Deely and Ben Shephard on Tuesday’s programme.

That means it is well worth looking back at flights you may have taken as long ago as 2019 to see if any of them were delayed enough for you to claim some compensation. Online tools such as AirHelp let you check if you’re owed cash for free.

Martin went on to explain that other criteria that can determine whether you’re owed compensation.

“First of all, it has to be a UK or EU-regulated flight. That is, any flight leaving the UK or European airport, that is pretty simple. Or any flight arriving to a UK or EU airport, but then it has to be a UK or EU airline. Easiest way to think of that, British Airways from New York to London is EU regulated, American Airlines from New York to London is not,” he said.

“Then for a delay to count you have to have arrived, not left, three hours late. So when they open the doors of the plane.

“Cancellation rules, they have to have cancelled less than 14 days before the flight. If it’s more, it’s deemed that you have more time to organise. If it’s less, then it depends on when the replacement flight would’ve landed, what you’re entitled to. You’ll need to look that up. There are free tools online that’ll do this for you, you do not need to pay.”

As many passengers have found out to their displeasure, there are certain situations in which airlines don’t have to pay out despite lengthy delays or cancellations.

“The final thing is it must be the airline’s fault, which is much broader than it may sound. If it is a weather issue, if it is air traffic control, if the airport shuts down, it’s not the airline’s fault. If it is staffing problems for the airlines, technical problems for the airlines, if it is a knock-on impact that means your flight is delayed, it is generally the airline’s fault,” Martin said.

When it comes to whether or not you should claim, Martin suggested the following rule of thumb.

“It’s a slight moral thing. If you were three hours and one minute late, sat in the airport bar, having a great time, I wouldn’t bother. We don’t want airlines to go bust. If you were 12 hours late, the kids were sleeping on the floor, it was an absolute disaster, go get your money,” he concluded.

But to the dismay of the Irishman, he would quickly learn he had been disqualified by referee Marcus McDonnell, who deemed his punch to be AFTER the bell in the eighth round.

Speaking after the fight, Donovan said: “It’s not easy to get the fight out of your head. It’s not really the fight, it’s the aftermath … Coming out of the ring, the emotions setting in and seeing different reactions from the crowd.
