James Martin’s Saturday Morning guest tells him to ‘shut up’ in awkward exchange

James Martin was back on our screens today with a new episode of his ITV show

James Martin found himself in a bit of a pickle with a guest on his ITV programme, James Martin’s Saturday Morning today (October 18), following a change in the show’s time slot and his recent candid admission, reports the Express.

The incident occurred while James was assisting fellow chef and old friend Galton Blackinston in preparing a scallop dish.

As he chopped some tarragon for Galton, James asked: “Chief, do you want these sauced or not?”

“Yeah, yeah. Yes, I do,” Galton responded, opening one of the scallop shells while the other two remained closed.

James stirred the tarragon into the butter sauce as Galton spooned some onto one of the scallops.

“Not too much,” Galton advised the viewers at home, while James quickly removed the shells from the other scallops.

“I was just matching the tops. Do you know what I mean?” Galton attempted to clarify, to which James retorted: “Well, it’s going well so far.”

“Shut up. Let me concentrate,” Galton told him, continuing to spoon out the mixture.

Both James and Galton chuckled at their banter as they completed the dish, featuring golden pastry, succulent scallops, butter sauce and crispy lardons.

After finishing the dish, Galton confessed: “I’m delighted, that’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

Their friendly ribbing continued throughout the programme, with Galton later quipping: “I was going to say you lost a bit of weight and then you turned to the side.”

James responded with a cheeky quip: “This is the last time we’re seeing Galton, but anyway.”

He proceeded to wrap up the programme, telling audiences: “That’s all we’ve got time for today before I go to the gym.” He added: “I can breathe out now.”

The programme welcomed guests including seasoned broadcaster Mariella Frostrup and culinary experts Jonathan Phang and Galton.

Mariella discussed her illustrious broadcasting journey, which included reporting on Live Aid, and reminisced about first hearing the iconic 1984 charity anthem Do They Know It’s Christmas?

Speaking about the tune, she revealed: “There was something about that record. Hearing Bono’s voice. It still gives me goosebumps. It just felt like an incredible song.”

Meanwhile, Jonathan revealed details about his former role representing top models during the 1980s, including legendary figures like Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks.

When questioned about whether he longed for the glamorous fashion industry, Jonathan candidly informed James: “No. I’m glad it’s over.”

He has since established himself as an accomplished food author and chef, demonstrating his comforting chicken broth recipe.

ITV chef James Martin appears to be so scared of crime of London he now takes a protection dog with him on trips to the capital. It comes after yobs smashed the rear windscreen of his car in broad daylight earlier this year, and he says other friends have been targeted there.

The Saturday Morning star posted a pic of him with one of his dogs, a Belgian Malinois, in a “working dog” harnass. He posted alongside the pic: “London.”

Earlier this year the 52-year-old pledged to go to London next time with one of his dogs. He said as well as his car being targeted he revealed “two of my friends’ cars got stolen, one other mate got mugged and nowI had this happen – all in broad daylight, all in central London,”

He added: “London is broken big time… next time I’m bringing the Malis,’, which refers to his two Belgian Malinois dogs. As well as his cookery show, he has presented James Martin’s Great British Adventure, Islands to Highlands and James Martin’s French Adventure. He has also published over 20 best-selling cook books.

However, he endured a bout with facial cancer in 2018. In November 2023, he announced he was taking a “little break from work” for several months of further treatment.

Speaking to audiences while on tour, he said: “For me personally, I’ve been through a lot of s**t with cancer but I’m getting sorted at the end of next month. I will be back fighting at the end of February but I’m going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted.

“I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages.” Recently, fans of the chef have been left disappointed after he announced he will no longer appear at the Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival just days before the event. James wrote: “I’m so sorry but unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of my control, I will no longer be appearing at the Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival.”

James had been one of the headline names expected at the festival, which is set to take place from July 18 to 20 at Aireville Park in Skipton. The popular event was launched in 2016 but didn’t run last year, so attendees have been looking forward to this summer’s comeback featuring music acts such as The Feeling and Go West.

James Martin announces ITV Saturday Morning break as he makes exciting summer plans

James Martin bid his Saturday Morning viewers a fond farewell as the show is being taken off the air for the summer – and he did not explain exactly when the show will be back

James Martin has revealed he is shunning exotic holidays and choosing to relax in the UK as his Saturday Morning TV show is paused for the summer. The 52-year-old TV chef took to the air for a final time this weekend ahead of an extended break.

The star has been hosting ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning since 2017 – but fans will have to go for several weeks without seeing him on screens. On Saturday, the host explained that his show is being put on ice for the summer.

He did not give an explicit time or date that the long-running series would return – but did shed light on what he would be doing in the interim. After thanking his guests and co-stars, he engaged in some banter with his crew.

When the episode came to an end, James announced: “That is also for the series. Me and the crew are heading off on sunny holidays. Different climates.” Turning to his team, he asked: “Where are you going?”

A crew member could be heard replying that they would be going to Portugal – leading James to reveal he was looking forward to a staycation rather than jetting off to the sun.

He revealed: “Yorkshire for me.” Saturday’s episode brought to a close the current season of the show – which was forced to be shorter than usual due to a conflicting event.

He told fans: “Because of the Derby on ITV1 this afternoon, it is a shorter episode than usual today. But we still have time for one more dish.”

When the episode ended, he made sure to explain that he was grateful to his guests, crew and viewers for making his show a continued success. He said: “That’s all we have got time for today, a massive thank you to all of my guests.”

He continued: “To my food team, you can sleep better now. Daniel and Sally, and of course, Harry Redknapp and Carly Paoli.”

James later teased when his show would be back on the air – but did not commit to an exact date. He said: “We will be back here with more top chefs, other brilliant guests, and more delicious recipes later on in the year.”

And signing off, he told viewers: “Until then, thanks for watching. Have a wonderful, fantastic summer. I’ll see you out there wherever you are. Thanks for watching, see you again soon, goodbye for now.”

ITV has been making headlines in recent weeks over the brutal changes they have been making behind-the-scenes, reportedly leading to staff redundancies and even reports Lorraine Kelly is considering quitting the network after her number of shows per year was cut in half and her time slot hugely reduced.

ITV revealed last month: “From January 2026, Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9.30am daily, and will transfer to be produced by ITV News at ITN at their base at Gray’s Inn Road in London. GMB will be made by a dedicated team within ITV News at ITN.

“This change will see ITV bring all its national news gathering into one hub, with Good Morning Britain benefitting from the journalistic and production resources already in place for national news bulletins, for the website and for digital platforms including ITVX.”

It was added: “Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will continue to be produced by ITV Studios and will be broadcast from a new location in central London.” Drastic changes have not yet been made for weekend scheduling.
