The location also sits alongside Cape Cornwall, which seafaring navigators of yesteryear mistook for ‘Land’s End’, marking where the English Channel and St Georges Channel converge.

Heinz Ltd purchased the cape for the nation in 1987 before gifting it to the National Trust to commemorate the firm’s centenary, according to Visit Cornwall.

Local residents have nicknamed the coastal rocks “General De Gaul in the bath” due to their distinctive silhouette when seen from the mainland. Every year, a swim event takes place covering the mile between the rocks and the cove.

If you’re up for a dip in the sea, you might spot some grey seals frolicking in the waters.

The South West Coast Path is a treasure trove of hidden beaches waiting to be discovered. Many of these picturesque spots were featured in the BBC’s hit series Poldark, which delves into the area’s smuggling history.

Locations include Botallack, Levant and Geevor.

According to Tripadvisor, you can embark on a tour of these filming locations.

One visitor shared their five-star experience: “We had such a lovely day with Becky. She was so knowledgeable not just about Poldark but about the history and culture of Cornwall. We also had a stop at the Minack Theater which was fantastic and although not related to Poldark was a unique piece of Cornish history that was so fun to explore. 10/10 would highly recommend.”

Botallack mine is another must-visit site, earning high praise on Tripadvisor. The stunning views offer a glimpse of a jagged and dramatic coastline.

Another visitor gave the experience five stars, saying: “Incredible views of the remains of the Crowns, Cornish engine houses perched on the cliff edge. Right on the SWCP coast path, a path leads down to the engine house or there are benches at the top of the path where you can have a picnic and enjoy the view.”

They added: “Nearby Botallack Counthouse (National Trust) is a café which serves home made pasties and cakes and has games to entertain children. Large car park (pay and display, National Trust members free). A fabulous place to visit in any weather, in hazy summer sun or in passionate winter storms.”

When cryptocurrency last soared in 2020 and 2021, we also saw smaller cryptocurrencies take off in what’s known as an “altcoin season.” These often unheard of cryptocurrencies skyrocketed and sometimes generated returns of thousands of percent.

Times have changed. Although Bitcoin (BTC 0.37%) has repeatedly set all-time highs during the past year, many smaller coins have struggled. Not only has Bitcoin grown more dominant, but there are also millions more new projects now than there were in the last crypto boom.

The appeal of under-the-radar cryptocurrencies is that you might uncover the next big thing and see eye-watering gains. However, the project might also collapse or turn out to be a scam. Altcoins can carry significantly more risk, not least because it isn’t always easy to find reliable information about them.

That said, these six lesser-known cryptocurrencies are worth a closer look. All have established use cases, either in decentralized finance (DeFi) or in the real world. There are no guarantees, but these certainly have potential.

1. Chainlink

Chainlink (LINK 0.16%) is an important cog of the blockchain machine. Smart contracts (tiny pieces of code) need accurate information to function, and Chainlink provides it. It collates on-chain and off-chain data and feeds it to various blockchain ecosystems.

Chainlink recently announced it would work with the U.S. Department of Commerce to bring government data onto the blockchain. It is also collaborating with financial heavyweights such as the Swift international banking cooperative, Mastercard, JPMorgan, and more.

2. Monero

Monero (XMR 0.33%) is a privacy cryptocurrency. There’s a perception that these coins are mainly used by hackers and money launderers. That’s a valid concern, but, as Chainalysis points out, a lack of liquidity in privacy coins means criminals are actually more likely to use Bitcoin.

Importantly, there are also legitimate reasons for turning to privacy coins. Transparency is one of the core tenets of blockchain, meaning pseudonymous transactions can be viewed on the ledger. However, only the wallet address can be seen, which — in theory — protects people’s identities. The challenge is that it’s increasingly possible to connect wallet addresses to actual people or organizations.

As cryptocurrency becomes more mainstream, that could be problematic. For example, a business that uses stablecoins won’t want competitors to use blockchain transparency to find out what salaries they pay or what suppliers they use. Individual investors may want to protect their privacy for a host of reasons.

As a result, the growth in stablecoins and tokenization may well drive demand for privacy coins like Monero.

3. Cardano

Cardano (ADA 0.89%) may well be the best-known crypto on this list. Cardano is a smart-contract crypto, which means that other projects can be built on its ecosystem. It emphasizes real-world utility, particularly in terms of digital identities.

The project depends heavily on peer-reviewed research, which isn’t always popular in the fast-moving world of digital currencies. However, as the industry matures, established businesses are exploring ways to use the blockchain. That could well be the opportunity Cardano needs — the non-crypto world may be more appreciative of its methodical approach.

4. Render

Render (RENDER 1.38%) highlights a different use case for blockchain technology. People can join its network and put their unused computer processing power to work, earning Render tokens along the way.

Render sells this idle computing power to people who want to perform processing-intensive tasks like making graphics and videos. It splits the work across the tens of thousands of computers in its network. Originally aimed at graphics, the Render now also supports generative AI tools.

5. Arbitrum

Arbitrum is one of several so-called Layer-2 (L2) solutions. These sit on top of existing blockchains like Ethereum (ETH 0.10%) to improve performance, while still using the security and foundation of the main chain.

Arbitrum makes Ethereum more scalable. Developers can do all the same things they might do on Ethereum, but with faster transaction times and lower fees.

There are quite a few L2 solutions, but a look at DefiLlama shows that Arbitrum has attracted a good number of developers and users. As of Sept. 4, it had the third-highest number of apps. And it’s in the top 10 chains for total locked value — the value of assets on its system.

6. Hedera

Did you know that some cryptocurrencies don’t use blockchain technology? Hedera (HBAR 1.80%) is one of them. It supports the functionality that you would look for with a blockchain-based crypto. You can use it to make payments, transfer money, build smart contracts, and more. But the underlying technology works differently.

It uses something called hashgraph technology, where nodes talk to one another in a process it describes as gossip-about-gossip. Because it doesn’t rely on a process of adding and verifying new blocks, it can process transactions more quickly than traditional blockchains.

One of the big appeals of Hedera is its energy efficiency. Many traditional cryptos rely on either proof-of-work or the less energy-intensive proof-of-stake systems to keep their networks secure. Hedera says it consumes hundreds or thousands of times less energy without sacrificing speed or security.

It boasts heavyweights like Alphabet (GOOG 1.04%), Dell (DELL -1.45%), and IBM (IBM 0.51%) on its governing body, but has yet to prove itself in terms of DeFi activity.

Understand the risks

Cryptocurrency is still a relatively new asset class, and it’s advisable to ensure it only makes up a small percentage of your investment portfolio. If you’re moving beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum into smaller caps, the projects may fail or drop dramatically in value. Bear in mind that eight of the cryptos that were in the top 20 by market cap in September 2021 have fallen off that list today.

Even with relatively established altcoins, there’s a lot of risk. Be clear about how much you want to invest and what your strategy is — particularly what might cause you to sell your crypto. Try not to get caught up in the hype, especially around the latest meme coin. The idea is to find under-the-radar cryptos that will eventually be on people’s radars and stay there.

Unlike Nvidia or AMD, Broadcom does not need to rely on generational product cycles to capture the attention of investors. Instead, the company’s appeal lies in its subtle, less-visible services that keep the digital economy humming along.

This quiet, indispensable nature makes Broadcom less vulnerable to hype-driven volatility while still offering meaningful upside given its exposure to myriad secular trends reshaping the technology landscape.

While the stock isn’t cheap, Broadcom represents a durable infrastructure play as the AI narrative continues to unfold. To me, Broadcom is a compelling opportunity to buy and hold over the long term.

Alessandro and his business partner Finn Lagun took part in the show in 2018 asking for a £75,000 investment for a 2.5 per cent cut of the company. Their pitch was rejected, with Jenny Campbell saying Finn was ‘delusional’ and ‘a disaster’.

There were many people who were rejected on Dragons’ Den, including Anshu Ahuja – who entered the Den in an episode that aired, hoping to seek £100,000 for 3 percent of her business, DabbaDrop.

The founder and her business partner had built up their sustainable takeaway business, inspired by the dabbawala system of Mumbai, in 2018, and had valued the business at more than £3,000,000 just a few years later.

The entrepreneur was looking for investment from the likes of Peter Jones, Sara Davies, Touker Suleyman, Deborah Meaden, and Steven Bartlett to help upscale DabbaDrop and encourage its growth outside of London.

However, despite her inspirational ethics behind the sustainable product, and the fact that DabbaDrop had turned over more than £800,000 in its latest year, Anshu failed to convince the Dragons to invest.

Speaking about the show, she said: “We had done quite a lot of work going into Dragons’ Den and our own fundraising round, so the £4million valuation was independently valued, based on our £850,000 revenue and a lifetime value of the 1,500 subscribers at that point of nearly £400 per subscriber. At that point, we also had a 1,000-person waiting list, which is currently, even before airing, standing at 4,000 people.”

Anshu knew it was a “risk” to go on national TV and pitch her business, but was willing to take the leap as the team was fundraising for DabbaDrop at the time of being approached for the show.

They’d already received interest from more than 2,000 investors, had reached millions of views on an Instagram reel, and pledged more than £1,000,000.

The BBC has confirmed that Annika, starring Nicola Walker, has been cancelled after two series, but fans of the actress have been told to watch another of her dramas.

An “outstanding” legal drama ought to be top of the viewing list for Nicola Walker enthusiasts following confirmation of Annika’s cancellation.

The BBC has revealed the cherished detective programme will not return for a third instalment, despite concluding with an unresolved storyline.

Nicola, 55, had brought DI Annika Strandhed to life for two seasons, leading the fictional Glasgow-based Marine Homicide Unit, however, fans will be gutted to know she won’t be back.

A spokesperson previously stated to RadioTimes: “We are incredibly proud of the success of Annika on U+Alibi, but there are no current plans for a third series.”

Nevertheless, admirers of the Unforgotten and The Last Tango in Halifax performer now have the opportunity to immerse themselves in The Split alternatively, reports Wales Online.

The Spooks veteran portrayed Hannah alongside Stephen Mangan’s Nathan in Abi Morgan’s courtroom drama.

The programme initially broadcast in 2018 and ran for three series, concluding in 2022 before a two-part special shot in Barcelona last Christmas.

The Split Up is set to commence production this year, and is a six-part drama that will showcase “the high-stakes world of Manchester’s divorce law circuit, where one family of lawyers, the Kishans, reigns supreme,” the release previously teased.

Another essential destination for arts enthusiasts is the Avon Theatre, which dates back to 1901. Today, outside its famous steps sits a golden star plaque honouring pop sensation Justin Bieber, who used to busk on those exact steps as a youngster.

Footage of the singer playing his guitar and performing passionately on those steps became an internet sensation and, amongst other factors, helped catch the attention of Scooter Braun in 2008. One guest said on TripAdvisor: “The gardens along the water are lovely, and it’s so peaceful. During the summer, you can rent paddle boats, and I think that would be a wonderful experience!”.

Another reviewer added: “It is very small, but there is a fabulous bench hidden away with a great view of the river-perfect to sit and meditate or read a book.”

Netflix fans have been searching through the streaming service’s catalogue to find the best hidden gems, and one ‘absolutely incredible’ particular show is getting a lot of love

Netflix boasts an enormous library of films and series covering a wide variety of genres, including content in multiple languages. There’s something suit every TV enthusiast, whether you’re into true crime, action-packed thrillers or laugh-out-loud comedies.

Some blockbuster programmes and movies dominate many Netflix subscribers’ viewing lists and receive widespread promotion across social media platforms, such as Wednesday, Stranger Things and Bridgerton. However, the streaming giant’s vast collection also contains a number of lesser-known gems that audiences have discovered to be surprisingly captivating viewing. With such an extensive selection of series and films available, there are inevitably some brilliant hidden treasures waiting to be found.

A Reddit user recently asked fellow forum members to share the “most underrated” Netflix show they have found.

The user went on to explain that they occasionally stumble upon programmes they’ve never heard of before, only to find themselves enjoying them far more than anticipated.

The streaming fan continued: “I am curious if anyone else has had this experience. What is the most underrated show you have discovered on Netflix that more people should watch?”

The post attracted more than 400 responses, with the top suggestion being the 2019 drama series Unbelievable, starring Kaitlyn Dever, Merritt Wever and Toni Colette.

Netflix’s description of the show reads: “After a young woman is accused of lying about a rape, two female detectives investigate a spate of eerily similar attacks. Inspired by true events.”

It describes the programme as “bittersweet” and “emotional.” The eight-part series boasts an outstanding 98 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an 8.3 out of 10 score on IMDb.

Several Reddit users have expressed their views on Unbelievable. One wrote: “Absolutely incredible show with incredible acting. I’ve watched it multiple times, even though it’s a tough watch.”

Another remarked: “Depressing and amazing at the same time.” A third added: “Love this show. Great characters.”

Responding to the suggestion about Unbelievable, another Reddit user declared: “I was coming to suggest Unbelievable too!”

A second reply states: “True that, [I] started watching this a few days ago and it’s so underrated.”

The programme was jointly created by Susannah Grant, Ayelet Waldman and Michael Chabon.

It draws from the 2015 news article ‘An Unbelievable Story of Rape’ written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong concerning the Washington and Colorado serial rape incidents between 2008 and 2011.

Unbelievable received a nomination in the International section of the BAFTA TV Awards in 2020 along with numerous other honours, including the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes USA and Primetime Emmy Awards.

Toni Collette secured victory at the Critics Choice Awards in 2020 for her role in Unbelievable, claiming the Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television award.

MAURA Higgins has revealed her stunning living room makeover at her £1.15m mansion in Essex.

The Irish beauty, who bought the property in October, has been taking her time with the interior, waiting for the right furniture to put her stamp on it.

Settling in to watch And Just Like That on her wall-mounted TV, Maura rested her bowl of food on a beige pouffe that also housed a diffuser and scented candle.

The space includes matching sofas, a fluffy bean bag, throws and a black marble floor.

Maura, who is reportedly worth £3.2m, wrote on her Instagram account dedicated to the property: “I finally have sofas!!!!!! @rowenhomes I can not thank you enough for these beautiful Boucle Sofas….

“My first weekend cooking in my new home & having my first piece of furniture has made it so perfect and cosy.”

She added that all of the furniture had been gifted to her.

Her followers were impressed with the stylish set up, with one commenting: “It’s really looking like a lovely home. Well done Maura they’re nothing like the feeling of owning your own home.”

Another said: “It’s starting to look really cosy.”

A third wrote: “Wow! It looks gorgeous!”

Maura has dubbed her five-bedroom detached home in a gated development, Casa A’Maura after the second villa on the show Love Island.

The TV star found fame on the series in 2019, alongside her best pal Molly-Mae Hague.

The 34-year-old’s new Instagram account has amassed over 70,000 followers and in her first post, Maura shared that she had finally moved into the new space.

The light-filled kitchen opens up seamlessly into the back garden with the help of bi-folding glass patio doors.

The large garden features both a patio and a lawn and is fenced all around with some guaranteed extra privacy guaranteed from the large bushes all around the properties.

It has two reception rooms and five “generously-sized” double bedrooms with one as a master bedroom that features an en-suite and custom-built wardrobes.

When she bought the property, Maura called it her “dream home” and also treated herself to a £60,000 Porsche too.

Her previous home was targeted by masked thieves, and the incident left Maura shaken.

A source said in 2023: “Neighbours caught it all on CCTV and it was chilling to see three masked men ram through the gates and start trying to break into cars.”

Reach Screen Time spoke exclusively to Steven Knight about the Peaky Blinders universe

Fans of Peaky Blinders, desperate to fill the hole left by the BBC Birmingham gangster series, can now get a little fix of the Shelby family, ahead of the forthcoming Netflix film.

Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is coming the legendary Sadler’s Wells Theatre this month after the 2022 ballet production’s successful UK and European tours.

In an exclusive interview with Reach Screen Time, Peaky Blinders creator and now James Bond screenwriter Steven Knight shared details from the stage show, including teasing a different side to Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy in the BBC series) and how the story fitted it into the TV drama.

The stage show charts the ill-fate romance between Tommy and his wife Grace Burgess (Annabelle Wallis).

Knight said: “I know that the people that love Peaky love that story, and it felt to me that a love story, a romance like that and the romance that comes with what happens, I felt all of that would translate into music, first of all, but also into dance.

“With Peaky, music has always been very important to the show. And also people move in a particular way, it’s quite stylised, the way people dress, the way they act, just made me think it’s a few short steps toward dance. And so that’s why I wanted to do this.”

Reflecting on audiences seeing a new facet to the Brummie don, Knight explained: “It’s a deeper version. I think what we get is inside insights into Tommy Shelby’s heart that you don’t get on the TV show. Because by his nature Tommy Shelby is a person who doesn’t show his emotions. He doesn’t let people in.

“But in this, we’re alone with him for quite a while and before the wedding we see how in love he is, and then after Grace’s death we join him on a journey towards redemption.

Teasing the music and artists featuring in The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, Knight said: “We’ve got a fantastic score, fantastic needle drops. We’ve got [the Peaky Blinders’ theme tune] Red Right Hand in there, so yeah, it’s right up [Murphy’s] street.”

The collaboration between Knight and dance troupe Rambert came about after the company was enlisted to choreograph a Swan Lake sequence in a previous season of Peaky Blinders.

Working with Rambert’s artistic director Benoit Swan Pouffer, Knight put devised the story while the dance expert put together the choreography.

Rambert’s Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby will be heading to Sadler’s Wells from Tuesday, August 5 to Saturday, August 16. Tickets are available now here
