Finding a new TV show can be a chore in itself but luckily people have recently suggested a series which is the “funniest ever” that’ll make you “spit up laughing”

On the hunt for a new TV show to binge watch? Sometimes it can be difficult finding a fresh series which will leave you “hooked” after watching the first episode.

Recently, people went wild for a gripping series which is similar to Breaking Bad and Dexter. Now if you want something comical and we’re talking laugh out loud funny, then viewers are singing the praises of one show which is available on Netflix. It comes as one TV fan revealed they were on the search for something that “hooks you early” and stays good all the way through.

Posting on Reddit, the person visited the r/tvsuggestions forum for inspiration as many recommended Resident Alien.

They asked: “It feels like everything is overhyped lately and I keep getting disappointed after something people swear is amazing.

“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind popular shows, I just want something that actually lives up to it and doesn’t fall off after a few episodes.

“Ideally something that hooks you early and stays consistently good all the way through. Open to any genre at this point, I just want a show that delivers.”

In the comments section, people recommended Resident Alien which is “one of the funniest shows ever made”.

Someone commented: “For real! I absolutely adore it. Such a good storyline. Hard to watch it and eat or drink though. The sudden hilarious moments make me spit laugh.”

What is Resident Alien about?

The American science fiction comedy-drama TV series, which was created by Chris Sheridan, is about an extraterrestrial sent to wipe out humanity who kills a vacationing physician and takes on his identity.

After a crash landing on Earth in a small town in Colorado, the extraterrestrial, named Harry, is asked to do an autopsy on the town’s doctor, who died in unknown circumstances, and eventually takes over for the doctor at the town’s clinic.

With the moral dilemma of his secret mission, he also deals with the mayor’s young son who can see his true alien appearance. He also develops compassion for humanity and ends up defending them from other extraterrestrial threats.

The series ran for four seasons from January 2021 to August 2025 on Syfy, but now it’s available to watch on Netflix.

Rated a 15, the comedy has an 8 out of 10 rating on IMDB. Reviewers say ‘Resident Alien’ is lauded for its clever humour and engaging storylines.

Sky News presenter Jayne Secker suffered from a bout of hiccups whilst presenting the 4pm bulletin on Thursday. The newsreader, 53, was back in her usual slot on the live TV channel but as she began addressing the nation, she was befallen by a case of the hiccups, and couldn’t stop.

She began: “The wait is over! After more than half a century astronauts are finally on their way back [hiccup] to the moon!” It appeared that she let out a slight giggle as she began to present the next item.

Ever the professional, Jayne managed to regain composure in time to be able to continue with the rest of her news reporting segment.

Jayne has appeared on Sky News Today since 2014, and initially appeared alongside Colin Brazier, and has been employed by the broadcaster since 2002.

Many viewers may be unaware that she is the daughter of the late Tyne Tees anchor Kathy Secker. Jayne’s media career began on home turf, editing student newspapers and securing an internship at BBC Radio Newcastle, before becoming a BBC trainee after graduating from the University of Stirling.

The Bedlington-born star, who was the first person to interview astronaut Tim Peake live from space, has a famous lineage; her mother Kathy joined ITV in 1976 and became well-known for presenting shows like Lookaround, the Birthday Spot, and the daily North East Tonight bulletins, as well as her own series Kathy and Co.

Kathy also made waves on radio, hosting her own show on BBC Radio Newcastle on Sunday afternoons, with her last broadcast airing just two weeks before her death in December 2015 at the age of 70.

Kathy, the founder of the renowned Grace House charity in Sunderland, a cause that Jayne proudly patronises, died at her home in Newcastle after she failed to turn up to a planned day out with friends.

BBC Newcastle, for whom she was still presenting a weekly show, confirmed the sad news on Twitter, now known as X, at the time. Paying tribute to Kathy, they wrote: “Some very sad news. Kathy Secker, one on our longest serving presenters, has died. She’ll be hugely missed.

“Kathy’s passing comes as a huge shock. Our thoughts are with her family. We’ll have a tribute on Sunday @ 2pm.” During her tenure at Sky News, Jayne spent a decade as a foreign correspondent, often reporting from conflict zones such as the Middle East, before joining their long-running rolling news programme.

ANNA Wintour showed there’s no bad blood when it comes to how she was portrayed in the hit 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada as she teamed up with leading lady Anne Hathaway during Sunday night’s Oscars.

Attending the 98th annual awards bash, which was held at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, the former Vogue Editor-In-Chief took to the stage to present the Best Costume Design gong alongside Anne.

The Devil Wears Prada famously featured Meryl Streep as a scathing magazine editor, a role largely inspired by Wintour’s professional reputation.

And while the film, based on the 2003 novel of the same name, didn’t paint the character in a glowing light, it seems Anna holds no grudges.

Taking to the stage with Anne, the pair performed a hilarious spoof in apparent promotion of the upcoming Devil Wears Prada 2 coming out in May.

As Anne spoke about the importance of costume and fashion in movies, and in real life, she turned to Anna to ask what the fashion powerhouse thought of her ensemble for the awards show.

Placing her famously oversized sunglasses on, Anna simply replied: “And the nominees are.”

When the pair returned to the stage, Anna hilariously said, “Thank you, Emily,” while addressing Anne.

The moment was a nod to the film’s character Emily, who is the long-suffering assistant to Meryl Streep, portrayed with Emily Blunt.

Despite it being widely accepted that Meryl’s role was based on Anna and her reign at Vogue, the latter failed to share her thoughts on the movie for almost a decade.

In 2025, she finally revealed her thoughts on the film.

She said: “I found it highly enjoyable. It was very funny. Miuccia [Prada] and I talk about it a lot, and I say to her: ‘Well, it was really good for you.’“

Anna added that the film “had a lot of humour to it.”

She said: “It had a lot of wit. It had Meryl Streep. I mean, it was Emily Blunt, [and] they were all amazing. In the end, I thought it was a fair shot.”
