EastEnders have brought back two characters, whose return are set to shake things up for the rest of Walford as one threatens to kill his rival amid family troubles

EastEnders have welcomed back some iconic characters to the Square. Original character Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and killer Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) returned in Thursday’s episode – and both of them have bad news for their fellow Walford residents.

Sharon’s return was revealed early on in the episode, when her brother, Zack Hudson (James Farrar), came home to see her in the hallway.

Zack was delighted to see his sister, as was her ex Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), who helped Sharon organise the surprise. But things soon turned sour between Sharon and Phil as she announced that she was selling her share of their boxing gym.

Shortly after, Ravi’s return was also aired. He was seen getting out of a car after almost running over his ex Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Levy). Ravi made it clear that he wanted to get back together with Priya and be a proper dad to their children again, but Priya wasn’t having it.

She stormed off and when he caught up to her, Priya berated him for leaving her. Ravi said that he was “ill”, having only recently left a mental health ward, but Priya fumed that she had stood by him and raged that he slept with her before breaking up with her when he left the hospital.

When Ravi insisted that Priya must care about him or she wouldn’t have sent him a picture with her new man in the background, she suggested that she’d moved on from him.

Unbeknownst to Ravi, his rival for Priya’s attention is Max Branning (Jake Wood). But that didn’t stop Ravi from issuing a threat. He told his stepmother, Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) that he wasn’t going to let anything get in between him and his family and if that man tried, he would kill him.

Following Ravi’s threats, some fans suggested that he might be the mysterious gunman who holds Max’s children hostage at New Year.

The gunman was first seen during the flashforward on 1 January 2026, holding Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Oscar (Pierre Counihan-Moullier) at gunpoint before telling Max to choose one to save.

One fan wrote: “It’s either setting things up for NYD already (and my theory about Ravi being the gunman being correct) or the biggest red herring.”

A second said: “The nerve of wanting Priya back when he’s treated her like dirt! And issuing death threats… They are trying to sell him as the gunman.” A third asked: “So the gunman in the flash-forward is gonna be Ravi huh?”

The gunman’s identity is one of many mysteries ahead of New Year. Fans had also been wondering who Max would be marrying on that day, but that has since been confirmed as Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) who is not only engaged to Max, but who booked their wedding venue for New Year’s Day in Thursday’s episode.

52-year-old Ryan McFarland killed six of his family members and later took his own life when confronted by the police in Muscatine in the US state of Iowa.

June 1 (UPI) — At least seven people, including the suspected shooter, are dead Monday following a series of shootings in an Iowa city that authorities said stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The suspect was identified as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, located along the eastern Iowa border with Illinois.

Authorities said he shot six people, all believed to be family members, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound that was fired after being confronted by police on the Riverfront Trail near a pedestrian bridge.

“Today, I simply do not have the words [for] this act of evil and what it has done to our community,” Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies told reporters at a press briefing.

The identities of the victims were not made public, but Kies said they are all believed to be related to McFarland.

The investigation began at about 12:12 p.m. CDT when police received a report of a shooting at 210 Park Avenue. Officers arrived to find four people who had sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

McFarland was identified as a suspect and was then confronted. EMS personnel rendered aid after McFarland shot himself, but he was soon after pronounced dead at the scene, Kies said.

As the investigation progressed, investigators developed information indicating there may be additional victims, leading to the discovery of two men dead from apparent gunshots — one inside a 1509 Mill Street residence and the other inside a 808 Grandview Avenue business.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute,” Muscatine Police Department said in a release.

Kies told reporters that the suspect had a criminal record, but would not elaborate. The weapon used in the shooting was also not mentioned.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

According to The Gun Violence Archive, the Muscatine incident is the second mass shooting involving four or more victims in the United States in the last 24 hours. There have also been more than 163 mass shootings in the country so far this year, the organization’s statistics show.

The 21-year-old man shot and killed after opening fire on U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House was a Maryland resident, according to online records.

Following Saturday’s shootout, the Associated Press identified the suspect as Nasire Best. According to virtual records, Best lived in the Prince George’s County suburb of Glenarden with his family.

The shooting occurred near a White House security checkpoint shortly after 6 p.m., according to a social media post from the Secret Service, which alleged that Best “pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing.”

Secret Service Uniformed Division officers returned fire, striking Best, who was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the post said. The Secret Service said no officers were injured, but a bystander was struck by gunfire and remained in serious but stable condition Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

The Secret Service said the bystander, who has not been identified, suffered a gunshot wound described as not life-threatening, the AP reported. It was not clear how the person was shot.

The Secret Service post also noted that President Trump was in the White House during the incident and was not harmed.

A person listed as having the same name as Best has three failure-to-pay rent cases for a dwelling in the Foundry by the Park Apartments in Dundalk, Md., from as recent as November. The Baltimore Sun could not confirm whether the cases are linked to the person killed Saturday.

The AP reported that Best was identified as the suspect by a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity due to not being authorized to discuss the investigation.

The AP noted that court documents indicated that Best was arrested in July 2025 after he attempted to enter a White House checkpoint without authorization. It wrote that the court records said Best did not heed officers’ commands to stop, “claimed he was Jesus Christ” and told officers he wanted to be arrested.

The court issued Best a “pretrial stay away order,” which typically requires defendants not to go near a person or area before a trail, the AP reported. In August, a bench warrant was issued against Best after a notice of “noncompliance.” He did not appear for a subsequent hearing, the AP reported.

The shooting remains under investigation, and additional information will be release as it becomes available, according to the Secret Service.

Saturday’s shooting was the third time in the last month that shots were fired near the president, including at the White House Correspondents’ Assn. dinner in late April and near the Washington Monument earlier this month.
