GMB’s Kate Garraway supports grieving wife as she sobs over husband’s death

Kate Garraway and Paul Brand spoke to Julie Chard about her late husband, who spent over 30 hours in a corridor after going to the hospital.

Kate Garraway was quick to console one guest on Good Morning Britain as they broke down in tears.

The ITV star, who is currently fronting the programme while Susanna Reid is on a break, spoke to Julia Chard about her late husband, Tom.

Tom Frith tragically died in July last year from the brain swelling condition, encephalitis. However, he spent a month in the hospital before his death after he was first admitted with flu-like symptoms and confusion.

Initially, Julia claims her husband spent over 30 hours in a corridor bed as A&E was overrun. His family was told he wasn’t able to have a vital MRI scan because it was the weekend. Tragically, after he eventually had an MRI scan, it confirmed Tom had a brain clot, and he died weeks later.

Speaking to ITV stars Kate and Paul on Good Morning Britain, Julia broke down in tears, speaking about her grief and anger at the care her husband didn’t receive. She commented, “I’m doing my best, I’m trying to find a new normal.

“I have to have a voice for Tom, because he’s not here. I’m learning to live with Tom here (her heart) rather than here (physically), and when you take that away, that’s a big hole to fill. He was the love of my life, and yeah, he was failed, I think.

“He might not have survived encephalitis, but if he’d been given a fighting chance, he could have. He was in critical care for seven weeks after that, but the damage was done, the damage was done in the first week. It was too late.”

As she became overcome with emotion speaking about Tom, Kate was seen grabbing for tissues to give to Julia as she wiped her tears away.

However, while speaking to the ITV stars, Julia shared that her anger isn’t with the NHS staff, as she told the duo that it takes a certain person to take on a caring role.

She said: “When they’re in an environment where they can’t deliver that, without the resource, the personnel, the finance, it must be absolutely demoralising for them.

“I saw the look on the nurses’ faces there. On Sunday afternoon, I left Tom for half an hour, and I asked a nurse to watch him for me because he couldn’t go to the toilet on his own.

“He was getting very agitated. I left and came back, and he was leaning against the side of the bed. He’d ripped his ID band off, and he’d relieved himself in his jeans, a grown man. I said to a nurse, ‘What is this?’

“She said, ‘I’m so sorry’, and she had tears in her eyes. I said, ‘This isn’t care’. He didn’t get a bed until the Monday morning.”

Now, Julia is taking legal action against the trust for medical negligence.

Kate read a statement from Dr Clare Hammell, the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, who said, “My thoughts are with Tom’s family and loved ones.”

It said: “We are very sorry for the distress that they’ve experienced as a legal claim has now been issued, it wouldn’t be appropriate for the Trust to comment on the specific circumstances of Mr Frith’s care or the allegations that have been raised.”

Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV weekdays from 6am.

‘I won £100,000 being handcuffed to stranger and there’s one reason it worked’

The winners of Jonathan Ross’ new Channel 4 reality series, Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing, appeared on Friday’s Good Morning Britain

Channel 4 recently aired a new reality series that saw 18 people chained to someone who is their polar opposite for as long as they can manage, all in an effort to win a £100,000 prize.

Hosted by Jonathan Ross, Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing, saw nine couples forced to spend their every moment together, bound by a pair of handcuffs.

They slept in the same bed, showered together and even used the toilet in close proximity with their new companion.

Earlier this week, viewers saw Staffordshire porn star Rob, 32, and West Sussex homemaker Charlie, 44, who is a self-professed prude, make it all the way to the end, winning the show and a suitcase bulging with £100,000.

Appearing on Friday’s Good Morning Britain, the duo spoke about their time on the show and winning the programme. As per the reality series, GMB decided to handcuff the duo together for their interview.

Host, Ranvir Singh, said: “I’m afraid we’ve handcuffed you again… to really, like, hammer home the point that you were handcuffed.”

Talking about how they got involved with the show and if they knew what it was about, Charlie admitted: “I didn’t find out for quite a while!

“They approached me, found me on TikTok, and said, ‘We’re casting for a social experiment. We’re bringing two opposing worlds together, and we think you’d be great.’

“So I said to the family, ‘I’ve just had this message, what do you think?’ They were like, ‘Yeah, you’d be great, mum, go for it!’ Then it was down the line, weeks down the line, they said the show was called Handcuffed.

“[I thought I was getting involved in] a social experiment to bring two different worlds together and see if they could work together. I knew it would be a challenge, but I didn’t realise…”

It was a similar story for Rob, who recalled: “I was reached out on Instagram and I was like, in 2025, for me, was a Yes Man year. I don’t know if you’ve seen the film Jim Carrey Yes Man.

“That year, for me, was just like, whatever comes at me, I’m going to say yes to it and I did. I thought, you know what, I don’t care what it is, I’m just going for it and that’s what I did.”

Talking about why they think they won the show, Rob said: “Respect! Respect and communication, I think they’re the two biggest things.”

To which Charlie added: “And kindness. Rob was really kind and thoughtful and made the whole thing easier from the first moment.”

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV X.

Katie Price confirms real marriage date and defends weight loss in bombshell GMB chat

Katie Price appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday, where she said no topic was ‘off limit’ during the bombshell interview

Katie Price appeared on Good Morning Britain on Monday to set the record straight on several details in her life, insisting no topic was ‘off limit’.

Katie, 47, recently left her family reeling when she announced she’d got hitched for the fourth time to businessman Lee Andrews, 43, who she had only known for a week. Her shocked mum and sister only found out after she announced the news on social media.

Since the reveal of her new relationship and marriage, the couple have been forced to hit back at a series of claims. Only recently, Katie spoke out to defend her husband Lee, hitting back at claims he’s a conman and insisting she has seen proof of his wealth.

Appearing on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Katie encouraged hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls to grill her, insisting that no topic was ‘off limit’.

Real marriage date and Lee Andrews relationship

Katie said: “I’m doing really good. Really good. Really happy. I’m so excited to be here today for you to ask me anything you want”, adding: “The reason I say that is because there’s been so much speculation in the media, online, and no one can really hear my voice. So I’m glad I’ve got you guys. As you know, you can ask me anything.”

Talking about marrying Lee so quickly, she said: “Now, do you ever really know anyone? If you look at my past marriages, did I ever know they would be what they would be? And sometimes, I don’t think you can ever know who anyone is.”

She added: “So for me, I’ve gone through so much, as everyone knows, so much, so many different relationships. And I normally went from one to the other, to the other. And I recently, well, two years ago, I did relationships, healthy relationships”, adding that before then, she had always been in “toxic” relationships.

Katie continued: “But now, like two years ago, I now know signs of red flags. And you know, all of this, I’ve been there, done it. Now, I am older, I can make my own decisions. And there’s nothing to say that you have to wait for anything. So I’ve met Lee. It’s hard for anyone to understand.”

It was at this point that Katie revealed when she first met Lee, which was January, and when they got married, saying: “We got married two weeks ago. Although it looked like we did the ceremony in January, we did get engaged then.”

Meanwhile, over the weekend, Lee denied a claim that he sent a voice note begging for cash, days after Katie claimed she’s seen proof he’s a millionaire.

Lee has been accused of sending desperate voice notes of him begging for cash and complaining about surviving on 20 ready meals days before his lavish proposal to Katie in January and whirwild wedding. It has been claimed that in one voice note, Lee claims he’s “desperate” and “trying to survive”.

Lee has denied the claims in an Instagram post, simply commenting on a post making the claims: “This is not me”.

Meanwhile, Lee also took to his Instagram story to double down on claims that fake voice notes featuring his voice are circulating. He shared a screenshot of three Instagram accounts pretending to be him and wrote on top: “Warning Ignore the fake accounts and fake voice notes”.

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid left feeling ‘ill’ as she recalls hotel incident

Good Morning Britain’s Ed Balls and Susanna Reid were detailing the latest headlines on Monday morning when the ITV star opened up on the ordeal

Susanna Reid has shared an ordeal that happened to her in a hotel room a few years ago.

During Monday’s (March 9) episode of Good Morning Britain, the presenter, who recently paid an emotional tribute to her former co-star, explained that a man once walked into her hotel room when she was asleep.

It comes after the programme was discussing a woman who had been sexually assaulted in her hotel room after a man lied to staff in order to get into her room.

Explaining what had happened, she shared: “It happened to me in America, obviously not this seriously. But I was staying at a hotel in Florida for work, and somebody came into my room in the middle of the night with their suitcase.

“Honestly, the shock you have when that happens. They’d said to the receptionist, ‘I’ve lost my key for this particular room’. They had given the wrong room number. I don’t think intentionally, I think mistakenly.

“Again, it makes me feel slightly ill talking about it. I went, ‘Excuse me!’ and they went, ‘Oh, I’m really sorry and left’.

The GMB star explained that reception gave her an apology and explained very casually that they’d given out the wrong room key.

Susanna added: “It’s extraordinary that this happens, in this case, it led to a crime being committed.”

Reffering back to the news headline being discussed on the show, Susanna called the incident “absolutely shocking”.

ITV viewers learnt that a man had met a woman at a party, found out where she was staying and lied to the reception staff at the Travelodge hotel, saying he was her boyfriend and had lost his hotel key.

Susanna added: “He then accesses her bedroom, it makes me feel sick. He accesses her bedroom and sexually assaults her.

“She only knew this person because they met at a party, he was not in any way involved with her, was not in a relationship with her and should absolutely not of been allowed to get into her hotel room.”

The man, who has been named as Kyran Smith, has been convicted of sexual assault and has been given a seven and a half year sentence. The victim was given a £30 refund, which she has since blasted as “very insulting”.

A Travelodge spokesman said: “The safety and security of our guests is our priority and we were deeply concerned to hear of this distressing incident and our sympathies are with the victim.

“At the time of the incident our hotel team followed the correct security procedures. We continue to ensure our hotel and customer services teams are trained to follow our approved policies.”
