Sky drops riveting first-look at ‘violent’ prequel to five-star crime drama

A new trailer has been released for an upcoming crime drama on Sky that fans won’t want to miss

Sky has unveiled the thrilling first trailer for an upcoming prequel series to one of their best shows.

Gomorrah – The Origins will be released in early 2026 and revealing the startling story of how Pietro Savastano, originally portrayed by Fortunato Cerlino, became one of the most notorious crime bosses in Naples.

The original Italian crime drama aired between 2014-2021 and was one of Sky’s biggest international shows, becoming a worldwide hit after airing in 190 countries.

Now, rising star Luca Lubrano steps into Pietro’s shoes in a six-part origin story kicking off in 1977.

Sky says the gripping new drama will tell “the story of how it all began — how a very young Pietro Savastano will enter a criminal world set against the backdrop of a city in transformation: poor, rough-edged, hooked on cigarette smuggling and about to enter a new era of heroin use.”

Also joining the cast are Francesco Pellegrino as reluctant gangster Angelo ‘A Sirena’, Flavio Furno as charismatic convict ‘O Paisano’, Tullia Venezia as musician Imma, who goes on to become Pietro’s wife, and Fabiola Balestriere as young mother Annalisa Magliocca before she became the notorious female drug lord Scianel.

Supporting cast includes Antonio Buono, Ciro Burzo, Luigi Cardone, Antonio Del Duca, Mattia Francesco Cozzolino, Junior Rancel Rodriguez Arcia, and Antonio Incalza.

The first trailer revealed a fun and fast-paced thriller that will nevertheless delve into Naples’ darker underbelly as fans follow the rise of one of the most iconic characters in international drama.

Based on the bestselling novel by Roberto Saviano, it’s a must-watch for fans of the original series and is also bound to attract newcomers to the franchise who will immediately want to binge all five seasons of the flagship hit.

An official synopsis for Gomorrah – The Origins from Sky reads: “Pietro is a tough city kid who grew up in the poorest parts of Secondigliano.

“He and his friends survive any way they can, riding their mopeds around town and committing petty theft.

“But he has a big dream: to become like Angelo ‘A Sirena, the neighbourhood’s ‘king’. When he manages to get in the graces of the young boss, he finds himself caught in a power game far beyond him.

“He ends up wondering whether this dark, violent criminal life is really what he wants or if his love for Imma can save him from such a fate.”

The original series overwhelmingly received five-star reviews from fans and, with writers Leonardo Fasoli, Maddalena Ravagli and author Saviano back on board for the prequel, it’s expected to reach similar soaring heights.

One fan raved about the original Gomorrah: “I absolutely adore this show. It’s raw, realistic, and unflinchingly brutal.

“As someone hailing from the North of Italy, I was already familiar with the Camorra, but this series opened my eyes to just how merciless it can be.

“The actors deliver outstanding performances, the script is flawlessly executed, and the storyline is gripping.”

Gomorrah – The Origins premiere in early 2026 on Sky and streaming service NOW.

Emmerdale Mack’s damning confession unsettles John in first-look clip

Emmerdale have shared a first look at next week’s episodes after a huge twist that confirmed John Sugden’s victim Mackenzie Boyd was still alive on the ITV soap

A new Emmerdale clip reveals the fallout to the bombshell that Mackenzie Boyd is still alive on the ITV soap. He appeared to be murdered by John Sugden weeks ago, but he lived to tell the tale.

Now a new teaser has revealed what happens next, and a damning confession from Mack leaves his captor in visible unrest. The clip starts with a confused Mack waking up in a makeshift bed in an underground bunker.

Fans had seen John make his way to this hidden room on Friday, buried under the woodland ground. After days of fans suspecting the area he kept disappearing to was covering up a body, it turned out it was in fact a secret door.

This door led John down into his hidden room, where Mack was laying. The clip for next week reveals the moment Mack wakes up, and slowly begins to remember what happened to him.

Initially crying out in pain and appearing confused, he looks around and sees the IV drip attached to him and also realises he’s chained up. Mack begins to call out for help as he sees someone approach.

It’s John that emerges from the shadows though, with a look of fear etched across Mack’s face as he realises what’s going on. He sees flashbacks of the attack and realises he’s in danger.

But as he screams out for help not realising where he is and that no one will hear him, John approaches and tells him to save his energy and calm down. As Mack pleads for answers on where he is, John says he is “somewhere safe”.

But it’s so clear that Mack has remembered everything, and he soon issues a damning comment that leaves John nervous. Mack blurts out: “You tried to kill me, just like you killed Nate.”

John stares with unease, clearly realising Mack has remembered what he figured out and knowing he’s now in a predicament. But what will John do next and can Mack get away?

All will be revealed with plenty more scenes to come next week. John isn’t likely going to just let Mack leave surely, as he knows too much.

But the fact he’s kept him alive when he could easily have killed him means the chances of him silencing him for good could be small. Fans will see more from the pair next week, as the walls finally begin to close in on John.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .

Death in Paradise star Élizabeth Bourgine has treated her followers to a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the upcoming 15th series, currently being filmed in the sun-drenched climes of Guadeloupe.

The seasoned French actress shared a series of snaps on Instagram, including one with the caption: “Shooting series 15 of Death in Paradise.”

At 68, Élizabeth posted an image from the production monitor that showcased her as Catherine Bordey, looking intently into the lens.

Another photo showed Élizabeth beaming while keeping herself cool with a handheld fan during a filming break. Her post was met with enthusiasm from fans, with comments such as: “Can’t wait to watch, looking beautiful as always.”

This sneak peek arrives amidst viewers’ worries for Don Warrington’s character, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, particularly after his shocking decision to resign from the force in the finale of series 14, reports Wales Online.

Concerned fans have voiced their hopes on social media for Selwyn’s return, with remarks like: “With Selwyn back, please.”

Another fan said: “Love the new inspector! His storyline is so interesting. I hope it isn’t the end of Selywyn. I always look forward to his scenes.”

As the show progresses, the future of Selwyn in Saint Marie remains uncertain, especially after he was temporarily replaced by Sterling Fox (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge), only to reclaim his position following Fox’s brief tenure.

The series ended on a surprising note when Selwyn announced he was leaving the police force to visit his daughter Andrina (Genesis Lynea), declaring: “I won’t be staying. It felt wrong to say yes. Too much has happened and right now I can’t see a way to get back to how things were.”

Fans are also excited for the return of Don Gilet as DI Mervin Wilson, who decided to stay in Saint Marie after discovering he has a brother. Élizabeth Bourgine is expected to reprise her role as Catherine, teasing a potential new love interest.

Other actors likely to come back include Shantol Jackson as Naomi Thomas, Ginny Holder as Darlene Curtis, and Shaquille Ali-Yebuah as Sebastian Rose.

The show left its audience on tenterhooks with a Christmas cliffhanger, and following the festive special in December, viewers are looking forward to series 15, which is slated to air in early 2026.

Seasons one to 14 of Death in Paradise are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
