CHRISTMAS is just six weeks away, and with that, many festive events and experiences are opening.
But sometimes meeting Santa or heading to a light trail can set you back quite a bit of money – especially when you add on the inevitable hot chocolate your child screams for when they get cold.

With Christmas already stretching our pockets, finding something to do with the family that doesn’t require you to get out your debit card is hard.
So we’ve rounded up some of the free events across the UK you can head to this Christmas, from pop-up performances to lantern parades.
Santa’s Grottoes and Meet & Greets
In Leeds, at Kirkgate Market, families get the chance to meet Santa for free on December 6, 13, 20, 22 and 23 between 12pm and 3pm.
At the Cadbury House Christmas Fayre on December 3, families can meet Santa in his grotto between 5pm and 7pm.
At Willow Brook Centre in Bradley Stoke, near Bristol, families can head to a Christmas Jamboree for free on November 28.
The event will have a Santa meet and greet, as well as a free bouncy castle, Rodeo Rudolf, obstacle course, slide and bungee run.
Visitors will also be able to meet the Grinch, and Glinda and Elphaba from Wicked.
For a slightly different Santa meet and greet, head to Hamleys toy store.
Over the Christmas period, visitors can share hugs and high fives every day at either 1pm or 2:30pm, with Santa Hamley Bear outside the Regent Street store in London.
Light trails
South Bank Winter Light Trail in London features numerous artworks by different artists that glow in the dark night.
The event takes place from November 6 to January 18, 2026.
In Liverpool, you could head to the Royal Albert Dock which features giant light-up figurines and a fairytale carousel.
Over in Sheffield, Light Up Sheffield features three of the city’s most iconic landmarks lit up – Sheffield Cathedral, Sheffield Central Library and Pounds Park.
The event will take place across 10 nights from December 5 to 14.

Light Up Wakefield will take place in Wakefield city centre from November 21 to 23.
On November 21, visitors can head to the Cathedral Precinct to enjoy live music and entertainment before the switch on event at 5:30pm.
Just after Christmas is Christmas Dubs in Clifton Village, near Bristol.
Taking place on December 26, visitors can see a number of Volkswagens light up Clifton Village, as they are decked out in lights.
In Torquay in Devon, visitors can head out on the Bay of Lights illuminated trail from November 28 to January 2, 2026.

Across the event, Torquay waterfront will become illuminated with a light trail stretching 1.5 miles.
In Devon, Lanterns, Lights and Luminations in Brixham will take place from November 21 to 22.
The popular event features a lantern parade, firework display, live music, street entertainment and a market.
Markets
A lot of markets across the UK are free to enter, but once inside you usually do spend money – whether that be on food and drink or attractions.
However, if you take some snacks with you and skip the attractions you can get into the festive spirit without spending a penny.
For example, you could head to one of Liverpool’s most loved buildings, the Bombed Out Church, for their weekend Makers Market.
From 10am to 4pm on various dates throughout November and December, you can wander around stalls selling fresh bakes and pretty creations.

In London, you could head to the Chelsea Winter Village where there is street food, artisan markets, firepits, traditional fairground rides, and an aprés ski bar.
The event is set within the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, so even if you don’t want to spend any money, it is a pretty market to see and take in the free choir performances.
Festive treasure hunts and other trails
In London, visitors can head off on the Snowman Trail, which is a free outdoor sculpture trail inspired by Raymond Brigg’s The Snowman.
Each sculpture has been decorated by artists and then place close to the city’s landmarks.
There will also be a Snoopy Trail around Fleet Street.

Light switch ons
Up and down the country there are thousands of Christmas light switch-ons taking place in November and December – and most of which are free to attend.
This includes the Christmas Light Switch On in Oldham, just outside Manchester.
Taking place on November 15, the event will feature the turning on of the Christmas lights, a visit from Santa, as well as Bluey and Bingo from the hit TV show and fireworks.
For a slightly different ‘switch on’ event, head to Tavistock in Devon on December 5, for a Victorian Christmas lights switch on, with people in Dickensian costumes and vintage entertainment.
In Richmond, the Christmas lights will be switched on, on November 27 and visitors can expect entertainment with the Wickedly Witches, Candy Cane Stilt Walkers and Giant Nutcracker.

Store events
Ikea stores across the country also offer a number of free events so it is worth checking out the events page for your local store.
For example, at Ikea Greenwich children can write a letter to Santa and post it in a special post box between November 10 and December 23.
At Ikea Southampton, families can even have breakfast with Santa if they are an Ikea family member – which is free to sign up to.
The same goes for Hamleys with events at the Regent Street store including Box of Christmas Mischief, a festive game show (November 6 to December 24) and Twinkle Jingle Town Parade where Hamleys elves dance their way through the store (November 6 to December 5).

If your kids love to read or you want them to explore more stories, Waterstones offers loads of events up and down the country, including regular free storytelling sessions.
Over the festive period, there are even more events such as Epsom Christmas Evening with local authors and illustrators and late night Christmas shopping nights, with free mince pies and mulled wine.
Other events
Inside Sheffield Cathedral, visitors can explore 40 Christmas trees decorated by different local charities.
A similar event will also take place at Selby Abbey – the Christmas Tree Festival, which will take place from November 28 to January 5, 2026, will feature 30 trees decorated by locals.
On November 21, when Wakefield’s Christmas lights are switched on, there will be a lantern parade through the city at 6pm.

At Windmill Hill City Farm, near Bristol – a free family farm attraction with a play area and animals – the cafe will be hosting free screenings of much-loved children’s films every weekday from 3:45pm.
In Devon, Candlelit Dartmouth is from November 28 to 30.
Visitors can see a procession of hundreds of handmade paper lanterns through the town as well as Father Christmas’ boat gliding across the River Dart.
For fans of Charles Dickens, the UK is home to some Victorian and Dickensian-themed events including a Victorian evening in Newton Abbot, Devon on December 3.
The high street will be transformed into a Dickensian Christmas Shopping scene with performers and a chance to meet Santa.

They filmed the top-secret project in London yesterday afternoon — 22 years after appearing opposite each other in the 2003 hit film.
A source said: “Nothing says Christmas like Love Actually, and so Google Pixel are bringing a sprinkling of it back to insert some nostalgia into the festive period.
“It’s still such a firm favourite with millions of people, so they tapped up Martine and Thomas for the sweet reunion.
“The ad is going to be packed full of throwbacks — especially because Thomas was only 13 when he was in Love Actually.
“A whole street in London was transformed into a winter wonderland and Martine and Thomas were in great spirits.
“They’re really happy with how the ad worked out. It’s going to be one people are talking about for a while.”
If you’ve lived under a rock and have never seen Love Actually, it’s one of Richard Curtis’s best films.
Martine plays hapless PA Natalie, swept off her feet by the Prime Minister, played by Hugh Grant.
And Thomas took on the role of sweet, love-stricken Sam, who went all out to impress his teen crush.
Google Pixel isn’t the only brand getting in on the Love Actually nostalgia for their Christmas ad.
Aldi revealed their famous Kevin the Carrot will propose to his sweetheart Katie in their festive offering this year using cue cards — inspired by the scene in the film where Andrew Lincoln’s character Mark professed his love for Juliet, played by Keira Knightley.
Without wanting to be too sentimental, it proves love really is still all around us.
And I’m definitely going to be renting it on Prime Video tonight.

MUMMY’S THE WORD, BRENDAN
BRENDAN FRASER and Rachel Weiz are teaming up again for The Mummy 4, 17 years after the last film in the franchise.
They both starred in 1999’s The Mummy and 2001’s The Mummy Returns, below, but Rachel skipped 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor.

Plans for a fourth film were ditched in 2012 before Tom Cruise tried to reboot the series in 2017 with another movie called The Mummy, but it lost millions at the box office.
The original followed treasure hunter Rick (Brendan), who wakes up an ancient Egyptian priest with special powers.
The latest news comes three years after Brendan’s career comeback in The Whale, which landed him a much-deserved Oscar for Best Actor.

Keir Starmer yesterday heralded Ed’s letter, which was backed by stars including Harry Styles, Stormzy and Annie Lennox, as “powerful”, and told him: “I wanted you to know that your voice has been heard.”
In a letter to Ed which has been shared with me, the PM said: “The review places creative subjects firmly at the centre.
“We are revitalising arts education, strengthening music and drama, and launching a new National Centre for Arts And Music Education to support teachers and raise standards.
“We will make sure every child has access to those experiences – from arts and culture to nature and civic engagement – so that creativity isn’t a privilege, but a right.”
It is a huge victory for Ed and the Ed Sheeran Foundation, which has campaigned for accessible, meaningful education for all young people.
In a statement, Ed said: “I set up the Ed Sheeran Foundation because every child deserves to have access to a meaningful music education, and the chance to experience the joy and confidence that musical expression can bring.
“Shortly after setting up my foundation, I wrote an open letter to the Prime Minister about the critical state of music education in the UK and the fact it was slipping through the cracks.
“With the help of the letter and everyone who signed it, I’m happy to say that some of the key points we raised have been recognised by the government, marking the first change to the music curriculum in over ten years.”

Stalls in Beverley will once again be brimming with seasonal gifts and local treats
Shoppers will be able to choose from 120 stalls set up in the centre of Beverley in Yorkshire next month after council officials confirmed the event would be back in place this year.

There will also be live entertainment, music and dancing – and, of course, an appearance from Santa and his reindeers – as well as birds of prey on display, and traditional brass bands.
The event had to be cancelled at the last-minute in 2024 after Storm Darragh caused chaos across the UK last year.
Locals and visitors were left disappointed after council officials took the decision to cancel the market in the run up to the event after 34 flood warnings were issued across the country and a cold weather health alert was put in place.
At the time, a spokesperson for East Riding of Yorkshire Council said the event, which was established in 1995 by local shop owner John Bird, had involved six months of planning and the decision to cancel “had not been taken lightly”.
Announcing its return for 2025, councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure at the council, said the event is “the flagship tourism event for our region and is an important date in the calendar for businesses and traders”.
‘Hugely popular’
He added: “It is always a hugely popular event, with visitors from all over the UK coming to enjoy the festive stalls and entertainment.
“The event will also provide a welcome boost to the local visitor economy at such a wonderful time of the year.”
The council said that Beverley’s historic centre will be “transformed into a magical Christmas shopper’s wonderland” for the event.
News of its return has prompted an outpouring of support and excitement with hundreds of locals and visitors commenting on Facebook.
One person posted: “I cannot wait to stand in this market. So excited.”
Another person wrote: “We will be there.”
A third person said: “Can’t wait. This is one of our fave Christmas markets.”
A fourth person was equally excited at the news the market is to return, posting: “Love Beverley. Nice place.”
A fifth said: “Will defo have to go!”
The festival will again be sponsored by The Beverley Arms, part of hospitality company Thwaites.
Rick Bailey, chairman at Thwaites, said: “We’re so proud that The Beverley Arms is once again part of The Beverley Festival of Christmas, it’s such a special celebration that brings the whole town together, showcases the very best of Beverley, and captures the true spirit of the season.”
This year’s event will run from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, 14 December.
Also making a return to Beverly this year is the Reindeer Rampage Christmas Trail, which is running from 1 November to December 31.
This is a popular event in the town with locals and visitors asked to find Santa‘s reindeer, which are “hiding” in shop windows in Beverley.

The market itself will take place over several areas in the town, including Saturday Market, and will also feature a parade to mark the start of the festival.
The parade will leave from Wednesday Market when the event opens at 10am and it will move down Toll Gavel to Saturday Market.
Taking part in the parade will be feature Santa Claus, Rudolph and the rest of his reindeer, live music, comedy acts, steam punks, Bernese mountain dogs and much more.

If you’re thinking of visiting a European Christmas market, this one isn’t well-known, but is packed with festive activities. Thanks to a special themed train, even the journey there is fun

While there are loads of incredible Christmas markets in the UK, visiting one in Europe is a whole other experience. Many European Christmas markets are bigger, and they often have unique features that make for a memorable festive outing.
One market that’s bound to appeal to Christmas-enthusiasts is in Arezzo, Italy, a historic city that’s surrounded by Tuscan hills and can be found just over an hour’s train ride from Rome.
While this train ride is already a picturesque journey, in the run up to Christmas the train company La Ferroviaria Italiana (LFI) will run their Espresso Assisi service with trains decked out in festive decorations. There will also be Christmas music playing, and a “small gift” for each passenger, getting you into the spirit of the season.
Once you arrive, you can browse a vast Christmas market in the heart of this charming medieval city. Arezzo’s Piazza Grande will host the Tyrolean Village market from November 15 to December 28, which is based on the traditional markets of the northern region of Tyrol, as well as having German and Austrian influences. Browse the small wooden huts and find hand-crafted items from handblown baubles to nativity figurines.
Visit between November 15 and January 6 and there’s also an additional Art Market, which will be full of artisanal crafts, as well as offering local speciality food stalls. The market opens until 9pm on some dates, which means you can see the streets lit-up after dark.
Arezzo will also have an ice rink, again with late opening hours, so you can enjoy the festive atmosphere at night. After sunset, visit La Luna di Natale (Christmas moon), a giant model of the moon that lights up. You can also take a stroll through Il Bosco delle Emozioni (the forest of emotions), a Christmas light trail surrounded by pine trees with free entry. Or hop on the Ferris wheel for amazing views of the city.
The Arezzo Christmas Bus Tour is also a good way to explore the city. This small electric bus takes you through the narrow streets and squares, with the tour taking 40-minutes and costing 12 euros (approx. £10.57).
If you’re planning to stay in the picturesque spot for a little longer, you can also visit Arezzo Cathedral, which sits on a hilltop and has spectacular frescoes and stained glass. There’s also the Basilica di San Francesco, which is home of the famous Legends of the True Cross frescoes, which date back to early Renaissance times.
Casa Vasari is also a great place to see Renaissance artworks, sculptures, and more. Set in a historic home that once belonged to artist Giorgio Vasari, this collection includes his own works from the 16th-century, as well as artists he collaborated with.
Ryanair offer flights to Rome from London Stansted from just £18 one way, with flight times of two hours 45 minutes. You can also fly with airlines including Jet2, whose Manchester to Rome flights clock in at three hours and start at £35 each way.

Trying to cram all your festive activities into December can be a challenge. From the big Santa visit to seeing a panto and Christmas markets, not to mention spending family time together, it sometimes feels like the month just isn’t long enough.
If you’re looking for an alternative that’s a little more relaxed, many holiday parks are now offering breaks in the run up to the big day. While you may associate caravan and lodge holidays with summer, these parks are opening in November and December for festive-themed breaks.
What’s on offer varies from park to park, but generally includes extras from Christmas-themed shows to Santa’s grottos, and even a Christmas tree in your accommodation. These breaks could be a great way to escape the pre-Christmas chaos, or to spend time with extended family without needing to host at home.
So, which holiday parks will be opening their doors for festive fun, and what’s on offer?
Haven – ‘sleigh-cations’
Four nights from £115
Haven will open the doors at nine of its locations in the run-up to Christmas: Craig Tara, Seton Sands, Devon Cliffs, Kent Coast, Cala Gran, Hafan y Môr, Primrose Valley, Seashore, and Rockley Park.
Staying at Haven means you can choose between accommodation from caravans to lodges, each with its own Christmas tree. The parks will also be adorned with decorations and lights, and Haven says there will be festive entertainment during the day and in the evening. Bookable activities will include pottery making, festive make-a-bear, and much more. Of course, there’s Santa’s Grotto, which will be an additional cost.
Haven will also be staging a Jack and the Beanstalk panto and promising “plenty of opportunities for a festive boogie.” Their on-site restaurants will serve festive food, including a three-course menu for Christmas day, while some Haven parks have their own Wetherspoons, which will offer the chain’s Christmas menu.
Parkdean Resorts will offer what it describes as the “full Winter Wonderland experience” at six parks in December: Camber Sands in Sussex, Warmwell in Dorset, Trecco Bay and Ty Mawr in Wales, Cayton Bay in North Yorkshire, and Cherry Tree in Norfolk. They’re also opening two parks in the Lake District with a “more relaxed festive atmosphere,” White Cross Bay and Fallbarrow.
Parkdean has a busy entertainment program for younger kids, promising Festive Milkshake! Mornings and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree with the PAW Patrol puppies. Families can enjoy breakfast with Santa or a trip to his grotto, watch a family pantomime, or even explore a festive market. Visit Warmwell and you can also enjoy their dry ski slope for skiing and snowboarding.
If you opt for a midweek break starting on a Monday, Parkdean also offers an all-inclusive option. This includes three meals a day, plus soft drinks and hot drinks, so you won’t need to worry about feeding the kids during your stay. Some parks will also have the option to book lunch on Christmas Day, so you can skip the washing up.
Center Parcs arguably already has a festive vibe, thanks to its wooden lodges with open fireplaces. But during the festive season, they’ll be going all out to create a Winter Wonderland. Guests will be able to explore Enchanted Light Garden trails, watch the Santa’s Greeting Parade, or take a family photo in the Snow Zone.
They’ll also have Christmas shops stocking decorations and festive food, plus Tipis serving hot chocolates, Bratwurst and waffles, perfect for a stop after a chilly winter walk. Plus, the restaurants in each park’s village will have their own Christmas-themed food offerings.
There are also loads of extras that can be booked at a cost, including an elf pyjama party, a visit to Santa’s Workshop, or Christmas crafts. For an extra fee, you can also book a freshly cut Christmas tree for your accommodation, with a range of bows and baubles that you can take home with you for the perfect festive atmosphere.
Butlin’s is offering a budget-friendly option for a Christmas break that’s all about family fun. Unlike most of the holiday parks on this list, the cost of meeting Santa is included for all families taking a festive break. Kids can enjoy Father Christmas’ Express Delivery, an immersive experience where they write their Christmas letter and deliver it to the man in red himself.
Also included in the cost of Butlin’s Christmas breaks is festive entertainment, including a panto, Snow White and her Magnificent Friends. Other themed shows include the Skyline Snowstorm party and Christmas Goes Pop, and there will be Christmas movie screenings for the family to enjoy together. The pools will be open, with Butlin’s offering a Festive Pool Party on each break. Visitors also get unlimited fairground rides and can enjoy activities such as making their own Christmas decorations.
The parks are set to be decorated for Christmas, with lights and decorations throughout, giving them a festive feel. There’s also Christmas-themed dining, so if you order a dining plan, you can tuck into popular dishes, from roasts to festive puddings, depending on the day.
The cheapest option at Butlin’s is to book one of their standard rooms, but they also have hotel rooms, apartments, and other upgraded accommodation if you want to splash out.

THERE is a charming, small Italian city that hosts a quiet Christmas market for less than the cost of visiting one in the UK.
The tiny city of Arezzo located in the Tuscan hills of Italyfeatures the country’s largest Christmas market that is themed like an Alpine village.

Each winter, according to Visit Tuscany, Arezzo becomes a “Christmas City” in the medieval centre, Piazza Grande, with stalls selling handmade gifts.
In fact, the gifts come from all over, with exhibitors travelling from the Tyrol, Germany and Austria to the market to sell wood carvings, ceramics, and hand-painted Christmas decorations.
You can expect over 640,000 LED lights, a Ferris wheel that offers amazing panoramic views and Santa’s house too.
For something to drink, opt for a steaming mug of glühwein – a traditional German hot mulled wine with cinnamon, cloves, star anise and citrus fruits.
A mug usually costs around €4 to €5 (£3.47 to £4.34).
You can step it up a notch too by having a Feuerzangenbowle – the fiery version where a sugarloaf soaked in rum is set on fire and drips into the mulled wine.
In the Prato – a large green space that dominates the city – there are more wooden huts selling local street food, such as sausages for around €5 to €8 (£4.34 to £6.95).
Families can have some fun skating at the ice rink as well.
For the duration of the Christmas market, there will also be a number of events and shows.
For example, for €10 (£8.68) per person, you could see Brick House Art – a three-floor exhibition of different Lego artworks.
The market will run between November 16 and January 6, every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And for this year, visitors can travel on a limited-edition Christmas train to Arezzo, from Rome.
Called The Assisi Espresso, each carriage on the train will be decked out with festive decorations and passengers will each be given a gift.
Other stops along the route include Terni, Spoleto, Foligno, Spello, Assisi, and Perugia.
The train will operate every Sunday from November 30 to January 11, departing Rome at 8:30am and arriving in Arezzo at 12:10pm.
The train will then leave Arezzo at 5:30pm and arrive back in Rome at 10:42pm.
Passengers can book either first class or second class, and there is a dining carriage onboard too – expect mulled wine, roast chestnuts and traditional treats.

And with cheap flights to Rome, you can head to Arezzo’s Christmas market for cheaper than a UK staycation.
Prices for a full stay and the Christmas train cost from just £250, which is 44 per cent less than heading to Edinburgh around the same period, according to First Choice.
But travellers don’t need to stay in Arezzo – they could opt to stay in Rome instead.
Kevin Nelson, managing director at First Choice said: “Rome might not be the first place you think of for a Christmas break, but that’s exactly what makes it such a smart choice.
“Pairing the city’s festive charm with a proper Alpine-style market in Arezzo gives you two authentic experiences for the price of one – it’s the ultimate festive hack.”
First Choice’s Rome package starts from just £184 per person for three nights this December, and this includes return flights to the city and a central hotel, such as Rome Garden.
Add in the cost of the train to Arezzo and back, the holiday costs just £238 per person.

And if you were planning the trip on your own, return flights from Birmingham, Manchester and London all cost around £27 in December.
A hotel in the centre of Rome then costs as little as £38 per night, so if you stayed for two nights, you’d spend around £238.
Both of these options would cost less than heading to the Birmingham‘s Frankfurt Christmas Market for a weekend, where a return train ticket costs about £35 from London and a hotel will set you back around £100 a night.
And that’s before battling the prices of the market – a pint cost £7 last year and a bratwurst around £10.
Before you know it, you’ve spent over £250.
Unless you’re staying in a hostel, a mid-range weekend away for two, anywhere in the UK usually costs £350 to £500.
NOT all Christmas markets are made the same – and one in the UK that might beat the rest is the on the grounds of a palace.

Inside will be more than 100 stalls selling everything festive – think gifts and christmas decorations to food and drink.
Live music will be performed throughout the day in the central bandstand, with many of the Christmas classics.
It only takes place over two weekends – December 5-7 and December 12-14 – so you need to be quick to get in.
You also need to book tickets, but they include access to the palace itself, as well as the gardens and the Hampton Court maze.
Or upgrade to the Exclusive Festive Lounge for a free goody bag, free tea and coffee as well as breakfast pastries and alcohol.
While there, you can also visit the Hampton Court Palace ice rink as well.
Running from November 21 to January 4, you will need to book additional tickets for the 45-minute sessions.

Hampton Court Palace dates back to 1514, although has has been remodelled over the years (including designs inspired by Versailles).
It eventually became one of the homes of Henry VIII, which he visited with a number of his wives.
Also inside is the UK’s oldest surviving hedge maze, commissioned in 1700.
Covering a third of an acre, it takes around 20 minutes to get to the middle.
Kids will also love The Magic Garden, a huge wooden play structure with climbing frames, slides and towers.
And film buffs will recognise the palace from a number of massive films, including Sherlock Holmes, Pirate’s of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia and Bridgerton.
Previous tourists have said the palace is a better attraction than some in London.
One wrote: “Most tourists only end up circling around Buckingham Palace or get to see the Kensington Palace at most which are nothing compared to Hampton Court combined.

East Lancashire Railway Santa Specials
All aboard the Santa steam train! Days out don’t get more magical than taking a trip on the East Lancashire Railway Santa Special Service. Get into the festive spirit with a mince pie as the train chugs along through the Great British countryside, with some very special guest appearances along the way. Presents are given to the kids, while grown ups can enjoy a Baileys. There are carols and music too – it’s just magical. The service, which sets off from Bolton Street Station, Bury, runs until Christmas Eve, with prices from £22.50 per person. New for this year, on 22, 23 and 29 November, ELR is also putting on a Santa Special train specially designed for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with a quieter overall experience and a calm carriage.
Glow at RHS Bridgewater
Embrace the dark evenings and wander through the magical Glow light show with a mulled wine or hot chocolate. RHS Bridgewater will be lit up this December, with twinkles and sparkles adorning pathways, trees and bushes. It’s a real winter wonderland that the whole family will enjoy. Tickets are available from 4.30pm – 9pm, until December 30. Prices for members start at £8.25 for adults and £4.50 for children. Non-member prices start from £13.50 for adults and £7.25 for children. Under-fives go free.
Yuletide at Tatton Park
Take a walk through the world of winter folklore at Tatton Park and join in their Yuletide celebrations, with music, performance, puppets and a glittering light trail to enjoy. There will be marshmallows to roast around the fire, hot chocolate to drink and magical characters to meet, along with stories from a traditional teller. Pause for pictures at the 30-metre-long Christmas Cathedral, marvel at new installation – ‘Tis The Season’ – which brings seven giant neon baubles to the estate’s majestic trees, enjoy Shatter, a striking collection of 50 illuminated shards up to four metres high, and delight at Fish are Jumping, a playful series of 20 leaping fish. Christmas at the Trafford Centre
There’s plenty to enjoy at the Trafford Centre this Christmas! First up, kicking off proceedings on Nov 15th is the Christmas Parade, running from 11.30am til 2.30pm and featuring a whole host of Christmas characters – including Santa himself! Then, back for another year from Nov 22 til Dec 24, is the Trafford Centre’s beloved Grotto, where children can meet Santa himself. This year, little ones are invited on a top-secret toy-making mission as Santa prepares to launch the very first Giggle Gizmo — a magical super toy centuries in the making! Oaks On Ice at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks
Making Christmas shopping magical, this year sees the launch of Oaks On Ice, a gorgeous ice skating rink and festive experience for the whole family. Elsewhere you’ll find festive food, drinks and treats on offer, as well as music and entertainment to enjoy. Launching on October 24th, tickets start from £12.50 for adults, £9.50 for children aged four and up, and £36 for families.
A Decade Of Magic at King St Townhouse
This winter sees King Street Townhouse celebrate its 10th birthday, with a whole host of Christmassy things to enjoy. First up, there’s the Festive Afternoon Tea, launching on 17th November and starting at £35pp, with nostalgic artisanal handmade desserts (an eggnog and clementine macaron, a mulled winter berry roulade topped with a miniature gingerbread man, and a rich Belgian chocolate and pistachio tart. City Centre Christmas Markets
Manchester’s Christmas Markets will open across the city on Friday 7 November and close on Monday 22 December. And this year will see the reopening of a section of Albert’s Square, with A Taste Of Christmas – jam packed with tasty food, drink and treats to enjoy, as well as crafts to buy. The square will also be home to a huge ferris wheel, giving breathtaking views of Manchester’s Town Hall. As well as Albert Square, you’ll find stalls at Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street, Cathedral Gardens, St Ann’s Square, Exchange Street, New Cathedral Street. Exchange Square, King Street and The Corn Exchange.
Bar Hütte
A seasonal alpine-ski themed Christmas pop up venue in Great Northern, this season Bar Hütte will play host to cosy karaoke booths, and festive events like wreath-making mornings and Santa meet-and-greets. A wonderful meeting place for all ages, there’s plenty to enjoy throughout winter. For groups of friends, and colleagues looking for an after-work social, guests can look forward to a bustling atmosphere under the twinkling lights too. Expect live music performed by local musicians and DJ’s, oven-baked pizzas and Bombardinos; an Italian mountain classic of warm rum, cream & cinnamon shot, served topped with whipped cream.

The box (RRP £3) includes six Penguin treats across a variety of flavours.
There are two original Penguin milk chocolate biscuit bars, one Penguin Mint, one Penguin Orange, in addition to two bags of mini biscuits.
The biscuit bags are in the Cocoa and Cocoa & Orange flavours.
McVitie’s says that the box “comes in bright seasonal packaging featuring the iconic Penguin jokes, along with a maze and word search on the back.”
While savvy shoppers have spotted the box on Asda shelves, it has yet to be listed online.
The new product does feature on the Tesco website, where it is currently marked as “out of stock”.

McVitie’s festive range also includes the Chocolate Digestives Anniversary Tin, celebrating 100 years since the inception of these beloved biscuits.
The 340g tin contains milk, dark chocolate and white digestives.

McVitie’s isn’t the only brand to have revealed new festive products.
The M&S Christmas range for 2025 includes new products such as the Original Peanut Butter & Jelly Munch, as well as a Peanut Butter & Jelly Spread.
The iconic Munch tins first launched in 2021, but this year’s version has been given an American twist, with the treats now available as a peanut butter and jelly flavour.
Last year, the M&S Very Merry Munch tin was advertised as “perfect for movie nights”, with fans calling it “heaven”.
Marmite fans may also like to try the Pecan & Salted Caramel Blondies with a hint of marmite, as well as the new M&S marmite caramel sauce.
If you’re a Tesco shopper, you’ll be able to get hold of the new Galaxy Miniatures Pouch.
Shoppers were quick to spot the new pouches on the supermarket shelves, with some taking to the Snack Reviews Facebook group to comment: “This bag is perfect,” said one user.
“I need some of these,” added another.
The 260g pouches contain a mix of individually wrapped Galaxy chocolates in the original Smooth Milk and Caramel flavours.

A MUM is ho-ho-home and dry for Christmas already — with £2,000 of gifts all set to go under the tree.
Charlotte Chandler started buying presents for her children Harley, 14, Evie, 13, and six-year-old Myles in June.
The 36-year-old says stocking up early takes off the pressure during the festive period.
She said: “Getting organised early makes a massive difference.
“I usually start in June but sometimes I start earlier.
“This way, I can spread the cost but also be less stressed nearer Christmas and have spare money for activities.
“Going through a busy shopping centre in December and fighting for a parking space is a no thank you.”
And she resists any urge to keep adding to her stockpile.
Charlotte said: “I don’t keep going until Christmas. I’m done now.”
The well-organised content creator, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, hides the presents in two 7ft cupboards with locks on them.
Besides the £2,000 on gifts, single mum Charlotte will add about £10 a week to her food shop to buy festive treats such as crisps, nuts, chocolates and fizzy drinks.
She said: “Anything to keep those stress levels down and enjoy Christmas.”
