Coronation Street villain dies suddenly as fan favourite is issued with warning

ITV’s Coronation Street aired shock scenes on Monday night which saw a villain killed off without any warning after subjecting two characters to a load of abuse

Coronation Street aired shock scenes on Monday night in which a villain was killed off without any warning. Richard Winsor, 43, has been playing homophobic church clerk Noah Hedley on the long-running serial for the past few months, and was placed at the centre of a controversial storyline.

When Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) made his debut on the programme, he was introduced as a married man who had two kids with wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) before it was revealed that he had been put through conversion therapy earlier in life. After his wife left him once his affair with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was exposed, she struck up a relationship with Noah, and he has been on a campaign of hate ever since.

In the latest trip to the nation’s favourite street, viewers watched as Theo geared up for a custody hearing concerning his children Millie and Miles, with Todd and Noah sitting in on the whole thing in court as well. Throughout it all, Noah made homophobic comments , which led to an outburst from Todd. He left and waited at home, where Theo told him he had been granted a ‘shared care agreement order,’ and the pair went to the Bistro for lunch.

However, Noah turned up and things between them immediately got heated as he subjected Todd and Theo to a torrent of abuse as he revealed that Danielle was set to appeal the decision.

He told them: “I’m concerned. People like you are allowed to live near kids, twisting their little minds so they end up like you.” Todd interjected with, ‘That’s enough!’ but Noah shot back: “I don’t think it, not while disgusting perverts like you are allowed to do what they want.” He labelled homosexuality as ‘a form of mental illness,’ and when Theo simply told him he ‘couldn’t get to them’ now, Noah simply said: “We’ll see…” and walked out.

A short time later, Todd and Theo had been joined in the Bistro by Todd’s adoptive daughter Summer (Harriet Bibby) and Dee Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) to celebrate. But things took another dramatic turn when Natalie burst into the restaurant that Noah had died.

Looking for answers, she demanded: “What did you do to him? What did you do to Noah?! He’s dead! The last I heard he was coming to see you.” When asked how Noah had died, she explained through tears: “I found him in his front room, I called 999. The paramedic said he’d had a heart attack.”

Dee Dee assured Danielle that no one could make someone have a heart attack and it must have been an underlying condition. Danielle, hysterical by this point, then proclaimed: “This is all my fault. I did all this! Come on, Theo, you hate me!” but he insisted that was not the case, and they will always be connected in some form because of the children they have together.

Back at their flat, Theo had burst into tears over the shock news and admitted there was a time in his life that he ‘loved’ Noah. He explained: “He wasn’t always the bad guy. He was my friend. Maybe the best friend I’ve ever had. That’s why it was so much harder when he started to change. I loved him. I looked up to him. I thought he cared about me but maybe it was never real. Do you know what? I hate myself for saying this but I miss him. I always will.”

In recent weeks, viewers have seen Todd become a victim of control as he was forbidden from seeing former boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), and in disturbing scenes that aired last month, Theo grabbed hold of him and forced him to eat a kebab. The night before Noah’s death, Todd had thrown a small gathering to celebrate moving into their new flat together, but Theo took issue with the whole thing and made Todd sleep in the spare bedroom.

At the end of Monday’s episode, Theo told Todd: “I can’t do this without you. I mean it. If you ever left me…” before Todd assured him he wouldn’t. Theo warned him: “You’d better not!”

Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.

Coronation Street’s Noah Hedley leaves ITV soap after very brief appearance

Coronation Street star Richard Winsor will bow out of the ITV soap next week after months of playing the villain in a ‘twisted’ storyline involving Todd and Theo

Coronation Street
Richard Winsor has been playing Noah Hedley on the long-running serial for the past few months, and is at the centre of a controversial storyline

Coronation Street star Richard Winsor will bow out of the ITV soap next week. The actor, 43, has been playing Noah Hedley on the long-running serial for the fast few months, and is at the centre of a controversial storyline.

When Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) made his debut on the programme, he was introduced as a married man who had two kids with wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) before it was revealed that he had been put through conversion therapy earlier in life. After his wife left him once his affair with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was exposed, she struck up a relationship with homophobic church clerk Noah, and he has been on a campaign of hate ever since.

The church clerk has also ruffled feathers by interrupting Danielle and Theo’s family liaison meetings and trying to replace him as the dad in their life, whilst running series of so-called conversion sessions at the local community centre. But now, his tenure on the cobbles is all about to come to an end in what is being teased as an ‘explosive’ set of scenes.

Coronation Street
Todd Grimshaw recently tried to take matters into his own hands as Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) looked on in despair

An insider told The Sun : “Richard’s done a great job as Noah. He was brought in as a guest star for a specific storyline and he’s knocked it out of the park playing such a twisted villain.

“But the character will leave next week and it’s set to be explosive and spark fireworks on the cobbles!” The whole drama with Noah has also had a massive effect on Todd, as Theo has turned nasty towards him amid it all.

Viewers have seen Todd become a victim of control as he was forbidden from seeing former boyfriend Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), and in disturbing scenes that aired last month, Theo grabbed hold of him and forced him to eat a kebab.

Spoilers have already revealed that next week, as Theo is quizzed about his violent temper, Theo assures them a moment with son Miles was an accident. But it’s Theo’s partner Todd who’s left lashing out when Noah makes derogatory remarks under his breath.

Coronation Street
Theo has started to control Todd whilst Noah has been on the scene

Todd ends up being escorted out by security, but will this impact Theo’s case? Later on Noah tracks the couple down and makes homophobic jibes at them – but he’s furious when Theo refuses to rise to it.

When Danielle soon arrives with some shock news about Noah, what has happened and how will Theo react? The next day, Todd is left baffled by Theo’s reaction to the news about Noah when all he ever did was make Theo’s life a misery.

Prior to landing the role of Noah, actor Richard was best known for starring as Cal Knight in Casualty, but he was killed off in shock scenes after three years on the programme in 2017.

He also had a part in Hollyoaks for a period of time, but, outside of television, he is known for his theatre work. A trained dancer as well, he has starred in productions of Edward Scissorhands, Swan Lake, and Saturday Night Fever.

Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.

Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain ‘in danger’ as she realises mum is ‘back from the dead’

Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain discovered that her mum had ‘come back from the dead’ in Wednesday night’s episode of the world’s longest-running television soap

Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain discovered that her mum had “come back from the dead” in Wednesday night’s episode of the ITV soap. Over the course of the last year, viewers have watched as the relationship between DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla Connor (Alison King) has blossomed, but their recent engagement was blighted when Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), whom Lisa thought was killed in the line of duty four years ago, walked back into number six alive and well.

It all turned out that she had been in a form of witness protection, having been undercover in a crime gang and the force had used the death of Tia Wardley to ship her off to supposed safety in Spain. But on the nation’s favourite street, things never stay secret for long and, despite Lisa’s best efforts to keep the news from teenage daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin), it all came out in the latest instalment of the Manchester-based serial.

Carla had begged Lisa to tell Betsy the truth, but she would not be swayed. From a distance, Becky watched Betsy as she made her way to the precinct with her headphones on. When Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) ran over to Betsy with his hood up, Lisa misread the situation and barged over. No longer able to hide, Becky simply said: “Darling, it’s me…”

Coronation Street
Betsy, who recently celebrated her 18th birthday, was left reeling when she discovered she was the last to know (Image: ITV/Coronation Street)

Through tears, Betsy was convinced she was dreaming, but Becky assured her that was not the case. Betsy stormed back over to number six with Ryan in tow to tell all to Lisa and Carla, but soon realised that they already knew. Once Becky was back in the house, Lisa explained to Betsy: “I didn’t want to tell you until I thought she was being honest, but she obviously hasn’t got it in her. She’s been lying for so long she doesn’t know how to stop.”

Betsy wasted no time in labelling all of her family as liars, and once she had stormed upstairs, Becky said: “The only reason I showed myself was because I thought he was part of the gang.” Carla was immediately suspicious, given that she and Lisa were both aware that the gang’s ringleader, Curtis, had been killed several weeks ago.

As viewers will know, the teenager was almost hit by a car being driven by Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) on her 18th birthday, all part of a dodgy deal set up by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). Instead, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) was run over and is currently coming to terms with a potentially life-changing spinal injury.

Becky warned: “The more I’ve been thinking about it, that car nearly hitting Betsy, it can’t be a coincidence. I didn’t want to say anything; I’ve freaked you out enough. But it doesn’t feel right keeping from you.” Hinting to Lisa and Carla that they could still be in danger, she explained that she had stuck around to make sure that they were all safe.

Coronation Street
Carla had clearly had enough of the bizarre situation and told Becky to leave, but not before she warned them all that they could be in more danger (Image: ITV/Coronation Street)

Carla, clearly having had enough of the bizarre situation, shot back: “Well, we’re not, are we? Not with you here! So if you wanna make sure this family stays safe, you need to stay as far away as possible. Starting now!” Lisa echoed this and told her not-dead wife not to bother coming back, but allowed her to spend some time with Betsy, and she begged Lisa not to let her mum go. Lisa agreed, but on the condition that she kept quiet about the whole situation. Later on, when Betsy slept on the sofa, Lisa said she would be staying in the hotel and simply announced: “I’ll see you soon,” as she walked back out.

DI Costello has helped cover up her fake death for the past four years, with he and Becky telling Lisa what really happened in 2021 in scenes that aired in recent days. Lisa was told where her ‘dead’ wife Becky had been all this time, and why she and the others faked her death. When Lisa confronted her boss Costello on Monday, she demanded answers and threatened to leak the cover-up to the press. It was clear Costello was scared about this, and was determined to keep a cover on things.

There was so much emphasis from both Costello and Becky about needing to protect her family. But fans were not buying what he was saying at all, believing both of them or even just Costello were spinning a fake version of events.

Fans now think Costello is hiding even more, and there could be so much to the story that is yet to be confirmed. So is Becky being in hiding and Costello’s involvement all linked to something much darker than they have let on?

Viewers certainly think so, with one fan posting on social media: “‘Otherwise what was she protecting this whole time?’ Well Costello I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough because this Becky lass is evil, selfish and manipulative.”

A second fan said: “Something doesn’t add up to me it feels like it’s more than just protecting Becky, protecting her family, and Costello is hiding something even bigger. Maybe Becky is in on it too, maybe not.”

ITV dealt major blow as shows rack up almost 20,000 Ofcom complaints amid cuts

ITV has suffered a major blow after several of its shows received official complaints to Ofcom, with Love Island and This Morning and Celebrity Big Brother amongst them

This Morning
This Morning received hundreds of complaints after Rylan Clark made controversial comments on immigration(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock)

ITV has suffered a major blow after several of its shows received official complaints. The TV and entertainment experts at OLBG have analysed Ofcom complaints data to reveal the TV shows that have amassed the most viewer complaints in 2025, and several titles from the broadcaster have made the list.

Love Island has hit the top spot, with the ITV2 dating show, which recently crowned Toni Laites and Cach Mercer as its most recent winners, notched up 13,585 complaints.

It wasn’t looking good for its spin-off All Stars either, which is due to return next year for a third series, as the show, which brings back famous faces from the villa, received 2,264 in total.

Love Island

READ MORE: This Morning, Loose Women and Lorraine forced to share new studio amid ITV cutsREAD MORE: Love Island update as Ofcom reveals why it’s dismissing record 14,000 complaints

Celebrity Big Brother also made the list, just a month after Coronation Street favourite Jack P Shepherd was crowned the winner of this year’s edition of the hit reality series. In total,1,224 complained to Ofcom about goings on in the house.

ITV1’s This Morning is a newcomer to the top 10. Towards the end of August, Rylan Clark, who was co-presenting with Josie Gibson, shared his strong opinions on illegal immigration in the UK, which generated 713 Ofcom complaints. Later that day, Rylan Clark took to Instagram to release a statement explaining his stance.

At first, he said: “I find it absolutely insane that all these people are risking their lives coming across the Channel. And when they get here, it does seem, and I think this is why a lot of Labour voters as well are saying there’s something wrong, it feels like, ‘Welcome, come on in’. That’s the narrative we’re being fed.

“Here’s the iPad. Here’s the NHS in reception of your hotel. Here’s three meals a day. Here’s a games room in the hotel. Have a lovely time and welcome.”

Hours later, Rylan took to his Instagram where he wrote: “You can be pro immigration and against illegal routes. You can support trans people and have the utmost respect for women. You can be heterosexual and still support gay rights. The list continues. Stop with this putting everyone in a box exercise and maybe have conversations instead of shouting on twitter!”

In yet another blow for ITV, the recent NTA ceremony, which was hosted by Joel Dommett and saw BBC soap EastEnders scoop up several awards, whilst resident presenters Ant and Dec lost out their usual award to Gary Lineker, received 929 complaints.

Celebrity Big Brother
Celebrity Big Brother has also received hundreds of complaints, just months after Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd was voted the public’s favourite housemate (Image: Vianney Le Caer/REX/Shutterstock for Big Brother)

Other shows to make the top 10 complaints include Vanessa Feltz’ eponymous Channel 5 programme, a natural rival to Loose Women, thanks to its air time. The chat show received 1,986 complaints in total, whilst GB News’ Headliners notched up 1,347 and Today With Samantha Washington by Sky News received 1,270. Filling out the Top 10 was Martin Daubney (with Alex Armstrong) on GB News, which received 301 complaints from viewers.

The complaints come amid major budget cuts for ITV, which will bring about massive changes to its soaps and Daytime output for 2026.

Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, announced the big changes in May, and insisted that they will allow the company to ‘deliver’ to the audience whilst also investing in other genres.

He said: “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.

“These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.

“I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off-screen in our Daytime production teams.” He added: “We will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition. “Daytime has been a core element of ITV’s schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award-winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade.”

ITV Coronation Street star to be brutally axed after ‘shocking twists’

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has revealed to the Mirror that a fan favourite will be killed off in the next few months which will send ripple effects down the cobbles

Coronation Street legend to be axed by bosses after 'dramatic twists'
Coronation Street legend to be axed by bosses after ‘dramatic twists’

A Coronation Street favourite is set for a brutal exit, the soap’s boss has teased. Speaking ahead of the ITV show’s 65th anniversary in December, Iain MacLeod hinted a big character is set for the chop as the show plans a series of huge episodes to mark the milestone.

Promising “shocking twists”, Iain said fans will be shocked with what he has in store. “The soap gods demand a sacrifice when you have an event of this kind,” Iain, executive producer for continuing drama at ITV, shared. “It’s going to be shocking. There will be lots of trauma, lots of drama, lots of twists.”

Teasing the drama will surround characters we’ve come to know and love, Iain said he’s not scared to be ruthless. “Sometimes the biggest and best exits are for characters that you care the most about.

Corrie boss Iain has hinted at some huge changes in the coming months

“There’s always that equation where you think, ‘If they were to go, the viewers will really care, but what damage will it do to the landscape of the show in terms of the ability to tell stories?

“It’s a big responsibility so we do agonise about it quite a lot and argue about it. Our story conferences are fiery places at times and this period of the show is no different.”

Corrie will mark its 65th anniversary in December. There have been few details revealed about what the soap has planned to mark to momentous occasion but what we can expect is drama.

Iain said that conferences at Corrie can be 'fiery'

And some much-loved character will return. “There will be a few familiar faces coming back,” teased Iain. A huge episode for 2026 which will see the worlds of Corrie and Emmerdale come together in a momentous celebration of our soaps.

“All of it is feeding into this crossover episode we are doing in January,” explained Iain. “It’s going to get bigger and bigger. Things will peak in a big way.”

The show’s biggest names are set to take centre stage late this year. Corrie legends Bill Roache, Michael Le Vell and Sally Dynevor all recently signed new year-long contracts earlier this year to remain on the ITV soap and are expected to play a role in the big scenes.

Coronation Street star fumes as his car window is smashed in after returning to hometown

Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl Webster on ITV’s Coronation Street, has been left horrified after his car was smashed in Manchester

Coronation Street actor Jonathan Howard has spoken out after his car was vandalised in Manchester, calling it a “welcome back gift” from local troublemakers.

Howard, 38, who plays Carl Webster on the ITV soap, returned to the UK earlier this year after a stint in Hollywood.

His homecoming, however, took a frustrating turn when he parked his car in Manchester and later discovered that the back windows had been smashed.

Thieves in the area are known for opportunistic attacks, targeting vehicles for quick thefts. Posting a picture of the damaged car, Jonathan joked: “Nice little welcome back gift from the Manchester scallies.”

Since joining the cobbles, Howard has made a big impact as Kevin and Debbie Webster’s previously unseen younger brother.

Carl’s arrival quickly stirred drama as he seduced his brother’s wife, Abi, and turned his business ventures into a dodgy garage offering fake MOTs.

His willingness to bend the rules caused even more drama when he became involved with stolen cars, trying to raise money to pay off blackmail from Tracy Barlow, who discovered his affair with Abi.

However, Carl’s love life endevours didn’t stop there. Fans were stunned last month when it was revealed that he had embarked on a new relationship with former footballer James Bailey.

Howard explained the motivation behind his character’s bold moves as he explained: “Carl likes living life on the edge, he is a hedonist and a free spirit, he is attracted to a person regardless of their gender and if he sees something he wants he goes for it with no real thought to the consequences of his actions.

Fans were stunned when Carl embarked on a new relationship with former footballer James Bailey

“He is frustrated that Abi has gone away with Kevin and he needs something to distract himself. There is a spark between him and James so he goes for it. Tracy was also offering herself to him but he isn’t stupid and he knows that would be a dangerous move, James on the other hand is less complicated and more fun.”

Carl’s escapades have made him one of the most unpredictable characters on Coronation Street between his romantic entanglements and his shady business dealings.

Whether he’s facing police scrutiny for stolen cars, trying to manage tension and drama with his family, or navigating affairs, his wild storylines have been keeping viewers hooked and on the edge of their seats.

Amanda Barrie feared she’d be sacked from Corrie if bosses found out about her sexuality

Amanda Barrie used to fear that her sexuality would cost her her role on Coronation Street and is certain she would have been sacked if bosses found out

Amanda Barrie used to fear that her sexuality would cost her her role on Coronation Street. The actress, who will celebrate her 90th birthday this weekend, is best-remembered by fans of the world’s longest-running TV soap as Alma Halliwell, and initially appeared in 1981 for a brief stint before appearing regularly from 1988 until 2001.

Over the years, viewers watched the supermarket worker marry fellow legend Mike Baldwin (Johnny Briggs), and will also recall her partnership with Gail Platt (Helen Worth) when they ran the café for a number of years and her long friendship with Gail’s mother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls). In 2001, she left the programme for good when her character succumbed to cancer, and in 2003, Amanda came out as bisexual.

But the TV star, who married former Mirror journalist and crime novelist Hilary Bonner in 2014, is now certain that had she come clean about her sexuality any sooner, she would have been dismissed from the programme, although she appreciates now that she has no evidence to back up this claim.

During an appearance on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, she told hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls: “Somebody shopped me to the press. I should’ve known better but I never kept my life from anybody, all my friends know everything.

“I think people thought it was catching, you were pushed away and whispered about in corners. They would not, and I swear to God, I’ve said this but I can’t back it up, I know that I would’ve been sacked from Coronation Street.

“They would’ve got rid. You couldn’t have said ‘It would’ve been that person who did it or that…’ it would’ve been ‘Oh we don’t want anything to do with that, darling.'”

Once Amanda, who has just released her memoir I’m Still Here, had come out, she actually got a pleasant surprise with the reaction she received, having anticipated the worst.

She explained: “I expected to be stoned in the street, I got a lot of hugs. What was I in such a state about? Because it was just ‘Oh, I see, oh…'” before adding: “You automatically revert to the way you’d always behave, lurking about with your head down editing your life is what you do. You change they, he, she, all that editing…”

Amanda and Hilary, who live between Covent Garden and Somerset, are amazed how much public attitudes have changed over the years. For Amanda’s adamant she could never have come out before Alma’s death on Corrie in 2001, but now appreciates the inclusion and diversity within the show.

She said: “It wouldn’t have been the bosses who caused a problem so much as some of the other cast,” she reveals. ”My close friends like Helen Worth all knew the truth. But you heard other people say certain things….Not naming names.

“Now there are so many LGBTQI characters on the show I often joke they should rename it Canal Street! [after Manchester’s gay bar district]. What happened after I left? It’s not contagious, you know!”

Claire Sweeney breaks silence on Brookside return with five-word comment

Claire Sweeney, who portrayed Lindsey Corkhill in Brookside, confirmed she is not taking part in the revival of the show – but said she is a big fan and supports the whole cast

Coronation Street actress Claire Sweeney has ruled out a return to Brookside and confirmed she will miss the upcoming revival of the show.

The 54-year-old actress portrayed Lindsey Corkhill in the soap opera, initially as a recurring character from 1991 and then as a leading character from 1995 to 2003, when the programme ended. She then went on to star in other major shows including Doctors, Holby City and Benidorm.

Most recently, she took on the role of Cassie Plummer – the estranged, drug-addicted mother of Tyrone Dobbs and daughter of Evelyn Plummer – in Corrie. She arrived on the street in 2023, initially under false pretenses, but has since become a regular fixture on the cobbles.

Now Claire has confirmed that, despite being one of Brookside’s most-loved stars, she won’t make a comeback as she is now starring in rival soap Corrie. She told the Daily Star: “It’s wonderful that it’s coming back. But I’m not doing it.”

The actress added: “It’s wonderful that there’s such excitement about Brookside coming back. I’m still a big fan of the show. I took my son to the Close a few months ago to show it to him. I got out the car and I started filling up with tears. I was in front of my old house.”

Claire’s comments come just days after it was confirmed that Ricky Tomlinson is returning to Brookside as Bobby Grant after 37 years. Recently, it was also announced that Sue Johnston is set to reprise her character Shelia Grant.

The Grant family launched Brookside when it began on the first night of Channel 4 in 1982 and audiences quickly warmed to the married couple Shelia and Bobby as they settled into their first owned home with their three children. Talking about his return, Ricky said: “It will be lovely to take part in Brookside again, especially to work alongside Sue Johnston. I’m looking forward to being on the Close again after all these years.”

The sitcom aired for 4 seasons over 14 years, after which Ricky went on to star in Grimsby, In The Flesh, and The Witchfinder. Filming for the revival is set to commence this month, with the owner of the Close and the Liverpool Film Office granting special permission.

This is because the former set and production offices, an unadopted road in West Derby, are now residential homes. The residents have been offered the chance to share a meal with the cast and crew from Lime Pictures. The special episode will air later this year.

Coronation Street fans work out ANOTHER surprise child twist as newcomer’s connection to the cobbles is revealed

EAGLE-EAYED Coronation Street fans think they’ve worked out another link to the cobbles for DI Costello (played by Daon Broni).

ITV viewers have previously expressed their suspicions about the detective inspector, thinking he is hiding his role in the death of his colleague DS Lisa Swain’s late wife Becky.

After Friday’s episode of the soap, fans now think Costello has a connection to another character as the gripping storyline continues.

Dee Dee Bailey’s new love-interest Ollie appeared to take an interest in Lisa and viewers have flocked to Reddit to share their theories about his connection to Costello.

Somebody wrote: “So I’ve a new theory about Ollie and I’ve a feeling it’ll soon become popular. I think that he’s either related or connected to Costello.

“If you think about it, they came in around the same time and came to the forefront about the same time. Are both around the copshop alot lately. Both are inquisitive to people lately making sus comments.

“Who’s to say that it’s not a big corruption involving Costello, Ollie, the Radcliffes and Becky along with the infamous Tia Wardley.”

Another fan expressed: “Costello has been in it for over a year since the Joel case. But you could be onto something alright.”

Someone else responded: “I think there might be a twist that Ollie might be related to Costello and there’s a twist that he’s Costello’s son.”

The name Tia Wardley has been hanging over Lisa and her girlfriend Carla Connor for months, in connection to Becky.

In Friday’s bombshell episode, Tia finally arrived on the cobbles to explain herself – just in time for the women’s engagement party.

In the instalment, DI Costello was seen desperately trying to cover his tracks and hiding what he really knows about the mysterious Tia Wardley.

Coronation Street’s Becky McDonald’s return teased by Leanne Battersby

Tia turned up at the Bistro and told Lisa and Carla all about her connection to Becky.

She claimed to have been involved with the Radcliffe brothers and revealed that Becky had helped her escape her troubled life out of the goodness of her heart.

Lisa seemed genuinely touched that the truth meant that Becky had been a good cop – and had helped the woman escape a bad situation.

But after leaving the Bistro, the woman met up with Costello – and the truth soon emerged. The woman was not the real Tia Wardley.

She told Costello: “I gave them the full Meryl Streep. Really milked it. Looked like the blonde one was going to cry.”

And when the potentially dodgy cop questioned whether she actually managed to trick Lisa, the faker added: “They didn’t have a clue what the real Tia Wardley looked like, so yes…”

In addition to the on-screen confession, the credits also named her as “Fake Tia Wardley” confirming that she is definitely not the real woman Lisa and Carla were looking for.

But as Lisa and Carla made their way home from the celebrations, Lisa suddenly felt a chill.

It was then revealed that someone had been watching the couple, leaving the detective feeling completely unnerved.

Coronation Street fans will have to continue watching to find out who was following the pair and to who the real Tia Wardley is.

Now Helen has been forced to reduce the price again for a second time after just fourth months of being on the market.

Helen first put the £1.5million six-bedroom family home up for sale in May, before reducing it to £1.195million just four weeks later.

Now, the detached, 5,000sq ft home can be snapped up for a cheeky £995,000.

The former couple, who have three children together, bought the property at Belmont, near Bolton, in June 2021 for £840,000.

It has five reception rooms, six bathrooms and six bedrooms including two en-suites.

The house is situated on the edge of moors and is said to have “breathtaking views”.

Helen, who has spoken openly about “losing all her money” in the past, recently opened up being forced to downsize.

She said: “It actually makes me sad that I’m going to be leaving soon because I actually put so much effort into it.

“When we moved I put like a lot lot of my savings into doing the house up and making it look really beautiful.

“But it’s a big house. It’s an eight bedroom house, which is obviously really hard to keep on top of.”

Helen Flanagan wows in very busty dress on solo trip after breaking down in tears over co-parenting

Meanwhile, Helen has shown off her evil stepmother credentials as she debuted her panto outfit for the first time.

The actress will play the evil stepmother in Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs at Liverpool‘s M&S Bank Arena in December.

The stunning star donned a sequinned red and black dress, with black feathered sleeves, and wore a gold and red diamante tiara on her head.

She also held aloft a red apple, symbolic of the poisonous apple so relevant to the Snow White storyline.

A source previously told The Sun: “Helen is excited for panto season and can’t wait to get into character, she’s a brilliant actress and knows how to put on a show.

“She’ll also be pocketing a pretty penny, celebrities and soap stars make good money doing panto and always look forward to it as some extra income.”

But despite being about to make her first foray into the world of pantomime, Helen is not looking forward to being alone this Christmas.

Helen, shares daughters Matilda, nine, Delilah, six, as well as four-year-old son Charlie, with her ex Scott Sinclair.

However, the ex-Coronation Street star also recently told The Sun that she was spending Christmas without her children this year, as she and former Chelsea footballer Scott, who most recently played for Bristol Rovers, live so far apart.

But Helen explained: “”I’ll do something in November – a really nice long weekend then I feel like I’ve had my Christmas period with them.”

Coronation Street favourite makes return after nearly six months away

Evelyn Plummer, the soap battle axe played by Dame Maureen Lipman, returned to Coronation Street on Friday after several months away as she helped celebrate Swarla’s engagement

Evelyn Plummer returned to Coronation Street on Friday after several months away.

The battleaxe, who is played by Dame Maureen Lipman, was last seen on the ITV soap for a brief appearance in March, but has mostly been away at university.

On Friday night, fans were delighted to see her make a return as she appeared in the hospital and bumped into Roy Cropper (David Neilson) as he was waiting for an appointment to get his bad back checked out.

In typical Evelyn style, she stormed down the hospital ward with a girl in a wheelchair, who was dressed as legendary painter Frida Kahlo for freshers’ week, as she complained about how complicated the signage was.

She fumed: “I’m telling you, I am a highly intelligent woman and this signage is a challenge to me! Oh Roy!” When she explained that the girl with her had sustained an ankle injury whilst partying, she asked Roy what he was doing there.

She suggested ‘bobbing about on a beach ball’ to ameliorate his bad back as she said: “It’s all the rage in halls, nobody sits on a chair anymore!”

In the next scene, Evelyn explained that her fellow university student had had an allergic reaction to the glue she had used to secure her fake eyebrows on so was being kept in overnight.

Roy told Evelyn of the happy news that Carla Connor and Lisa Swain had got engaged and that they would soon be celebrating at the Bistro, so Evelyn promptly invited herself along. Carla was thrilled to see that Roy had made it to the party having already asked him to walk her down the aisle, and Evelyn threw her coat at her as she said: “We bumped into each other in the hospital!”

Evelyn is the mother of Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) and was introduced as the long-lost grandmother of Tyrone Dobbs

Carla said she she hoped it was ‘nothing serious’ but couldn’t have been less interested in the response. Evelyn then dropped a huge hint for someone to buy her a drink and asked for a double brandy.

She added: “Mind you, should I have a drink on an empty stomach?” as Nick offered to get her something from the kitchen. As she continued to gatecrash the proceedings, she said: “This is quite sophisticated for Weathefield.

“We’ve got loads of lesbians at uni! Gay weddings are two a penny. A month ago, we had a throuple handfasting, yep! That was nice.”

This all came after Carla and Lisa had already been dealt with a whole load of drama when a girl claiming to be Tia Wardley turned up on the scene, although all was not as it seemed.

Where you’ve seen I Fought The Law cast before – Corrie villain to CBBC icon

I Fought The Law has had viewers in tears and as Sheridan Smith’s triumphant return to the screen plays out, she is joined by a host of other familiar faces

Sheridan Smith

I Fought The Law has had viewers in tears in recent days after the ITV drama first began to air. The four-part series follows the remarkable true story of the story of Ann Ming, a mother-of-three from Billingham, County Durham, who battled for 15 years to see her daughter Julie’s killer brought to justice after he was initially acquitted.

Julie Hogg, aged 22, was a mother to three-year-old son Kevin and wife to husband Andrew. She vanished after working a late shift at a local pizza parlour.

Heartbreakingly, Ann found Julie’s body hidden in the bathroom of her home in January 1990. 80 days earlier, the murderer had concealed Julie’s body behind the bath panel.

Despite extensive searches by police forensics teams after Julie’s disappearance, they failed to locate Julie’s body.

The brand new drama features a stellar cast, headed up by none other than British TV legend Sheridan Smith, who has been a regular face on screens for decades. She started her career as Janet Smith on the BBC Three sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, which she appeared on alongside the likes of Ralf Little, Natalie Casey and Beverley Callard.

Jake Davies
Jake Davies has appeared in Screw and Cyber Bully but now plays Matthew in I Fought The Law(Image: ITV)

During the show’s lengthy run throughout the 2000s, she also appeared on Fat Friends opposite Emmerdale star Lisa Riley as well as sunny sitcom Benidorm and BBC favourite Gavin & Stacey. She then turned to musical theatre, winning an Olivier Award for her portrayal of Elle Woods, the character made famous by Reese Witherspoon, in the West End production of Legally Blonde.

Further stage credits in Funny Girl and, more recently, Shirley Valentine and Opening Night followed.

But it’s gritty dramas that Sheridan has really made her mark. In 2014, she starred as Cilla Black in Cilla, played a cleaner with a gambling addiction in Cleaning Up and also starred in a number of true crime dramas with her the mother of a young gay man killed by Stephen Port in Four Lives, and as Karen Matthews’ friend Julie Bushby in the BBC drama The Moorside.

Daniel York Loh stars as Sheridan’s on-screen husband but has been seen before in Strangers and the short-lived sitcom Scarborough(Image: ITV)

But Sheridan is not the only famous face to be starring in the much-anticipated drama. She is joined by Enzo Cilenti as DS Mark Braithwaite. He previously starred in Jekyll & Hyde for ITV alongside Hollywood star Richard E. Grant and Strictly Come Dancing’s Natalie Gumede. He also had a main role as Aubrey Hackett in The Last Tycoon opposite Lily Collins, Matt Bomer and Kelsey Grammar and can also be seen alongside Olivia Colman and Dominic West in the 2019 BBC version of Les Miserables.

Esteemed actor Andrew Lancel makes an appearance as Guy Whitburn QC in I Fought The Law, but soap fans are likely to remember him as the villainous Frank Foster on Coronation Street. He appeared as the business associate of Underworld manager Carla Connor (Alison King), and subjected the factory boss to a horrific act of rape.

He was later found dead on the factory floor and it turned out that he had been murdered by his own mother Anne, who was played by Heartbeat favourite Gwen Taylor, after she discovered what he had done. Prior to his stint on the cobbles, he had appeared on Bad Girls and Queer as Folk and has also carved out an illustrious career in theatre having starred in tours of The Sound of Music and Cilla.

The cast is rounded out by Victoria Wyant, who plays the victim in question, as well as Rivals star as Rufus Jones. The actor recently starred as Paul Stratton in the hit Disney+ series and has also starred in The Casual Vacancy and appeared in the likes of Inside No. 9, Beyond Paradise and Black Ops over the years. Fans of Hollyoaks might also recognise Kent Riley, who played Zak Ramsey in the Channel 4 soap.

CBBC fans might also recognise Aimee Kelly, who plays Judith Morden in the drama series. The actress first found fame as a teenager when she played Maddy Smith in the hit supernatural series Wolfblood opposite Bobby Lockwood.

Since she quit the supernatural series more than a decade ago, she has appeared in episodes of Call The Midwife, Grantchester and Holby City. In 2024, she played Sasha in the psychological thriller Platform 7. Others set to appear in the programme, which finishes its run on September 8, are Jack James Riley, Bryony Corrigan, and Buddy Wignall-Ho.

Ann, unhappy with the Cleveland Constabulary’s investigation, took it upon herself to challenge senior officers in a bid to uncover the truth about her daughter Julie’s murder and bring the culprit to justice.

William Dunlop was twice put on trial for Julie’s murder, each time denying his guilt. On both occasions, the jury failed to reach a verdict, leading to his formal acquittal and release.

In 1999, while serving a seven-year sentence for violent offences, Dunlop confessed to a prison officer that he had murdered Julie. At the time, due to the double jeopardy rule, he could not be retried for the murder following his acquittal.

Ann, who also serves as a consultant on I Fought the Law, expressed her support for the ITV series and shared her delight that actress Sheridan would be portraying her, stating she was “overwhelmed”.

“I am very pleased that Hera Pictures will tell the story of my campaign to overturn the Double Jeopardy Law. My daughter’s killer was wrongfully acquitted, and a number of years later confessed to her murder, for which he could only be prosecuted for perjury due to the 800-year-old Double Jeopardy Law. I wasn’t going to let this stand in my way of getting justice for Julie.

BBC drama The Guest branded ‘the most unhinged show’ but viewers left divided

Viewers have been left divided after watching The Guest, with some praising the new BBC drama highly whilst others issuing similar complaints about the whole thing

Viewers have been left divided after watching The Guest. The new BBC drama aired on Monday and is the latest offering of writer Matthew Barry and director Ashley Way, both of whom were behind the 2023 hit Men Up, which boasted Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page amongst its cast.

The new thriller stars Gabrielle Creevy as a cleaner who develops a toxic relationship with her strange employer, played by Eve Myles. It comprises four episodes in total and has come througn Quay Street Productions, the same production company behind Michelle Keegan’s Netflix hit Fool Me Once and The Blame, which will also feature the former Coronation Street star in the leading role.

But as the drama hit screens at the start of the new week, fans weren’t entirely sure what to make of it all, but one fan was full of praise after sitting down to tune in. TV critic Scott Bryan said: “The Guest on BBC One is the most unhinged show this side of Christmas. Completely loved it. Great characters and funny one-liners.”

Eve Myles as Fran in The Guest
Viewers weren’t entirely sure what to make of the new four-part series(Image: BBC/Quay Street Productions/Simon Ridgeway)

Another wrote: “Oh. My. GOD! #TheGuest is fun, twisty, flirty, thrilling! Eve Myles & Gabrielle Creevy are perfect in this. So well written and beautifully directed. And filmed in Wales! Loved, loved it, loved it,” and another said: “Just watched ” The Guest ” on BBC I player starring Eve Myles . A good thriller. Worth watching.”

One fan was left ‘terrified’ by the whole thing as they admitted: “Omg there is a drama on bbc1 this eve at 9 called #TheGuest it’s rather gripping but terrifying all at the same time and I wan to continue watching it but it’s a bit too dramatic, oh and halfway through there was a spider crawling up my wall.” Another concurred as they said: “So many jump scares on #TheGuest – I’m a nervous wreck”

Another viewer was completely shocked by the way the first episode had wrapped up as they took to social media to exclaim: “Bloody hell, that ending to the first episode of The Guest was NOT how I expected it to go!”

Some viewers were less than enthusiastic with their reviews, as one said: “What utter tosh passes for drama on the bbc! Wasted an hour on The Guest -am dram at best,” and another said: “what a mess of a storyline. Utter garbage ending. Can’t believe I wasted 4 hours of my life watching that!”

One viewer even admitted they were ‘terrified’ by it all (Image: BBC/Quay Street Productions/Simon Ridgeway)

Prior to the series launch, Reach Plc chatted to Eve and Gabrielle about their roles in the programme and why they think audiences are drawn to intense female bonds.

Eve, 47, remarked: “Because it’s complex, it’s not easy, it’s not actually an easy thing to talk about or to try and describe or explain, it’s about something very, very intoxicating. It’s about two women sharing something very important.

“Like myself and Gabby, Fran and Ria are also incredibly vulnerable, never mind the strengths you see from both of them, they both have great strengths, but they both have great weaknesses.”

Eve detailed the unlikely bond between Fran and Ria, explaining that their contrasting backgrounds add a layer of intrigue and mystery for some.

She further elaborated: “It’s not about a boss and a cleaner it’s about two women who share this part of their lives together, they share secrets together, they go through something very traumatic together then they’ve got to fix that, or not and what that does to them.”

Matthew Barry, the writer of The Guest, expressed his excitement about the project: “I’m beyond excited to be re-teaming with Nicola, Davina and the whole team at Quay Street Productions and the BBC to bring The Guest to life.

“As well as being an exciting thriller, at its core this is an examination of class, social mobility and the growing disparity between those at the top and bottom of our society.”

Sheridan Smith’s I Fought The Law co-star left in ‘disbelief’ over ITV drama

Jack James Ryan has opened up about his role in the upcoming ITV drama I Fought The Law, which sees him starring alongside Sheridan Smith in the four-part series

Sheridan Smith's I Fought The Law co-star Jack James Ryan was blown away by her performance

Coronation Street and Passenger star Jack James Ryan was left starstruck after working alongside Sheridan Smith on the ITV series, I Fought The Law. The 29-year-old actor, who has become a familiar face in British households, landed a role in the drama, which tells the real-life story of Ann Ming’s fight to change the Double Jeopardy Law and bring her daughter Julie Hogg’s murderer to justice.

Despite spending four months on set, Manchester-born Jack still found himself “geeking out” over his co-star Sheridan, 44. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, he said: “People say ‘Oh I’ve always loved this actor’ but when I knew that I was going to be playing alongside Sheridan, I couldn’t believe it.”

He continued: “It was just amazing, I have followed her career as a young actor and been totally inspired by the work that she’s done, so getting to spend the last four months watching her work and stealing everything was the best, so much better than drama school.”

Jack, who starred as Billy Dunlop, said it was 'amazing' working alongside Sheridan Smith

Jack also revealed that Sheridan has an incredible ability to instantly “switch on” and get into character at a moment’s notice following a break in filming.

“She is absolutely breathtaking,” he enthused. “To be surrounded by these actors, it has an absolutely great supporting cast throughout the series, so to be surrounded by them felt like I’d won the lottery – this is the type of work that I’ve always dreamed of doing.”

Discussing the show, Jack revealed: “I’ve never been in anything that was based on a true case, or any of the characters have been real, it’s always been fictional stuff. Straight away you feel the pressure to do it justice. Sheridan plays the trailblazer, Ann Ming, who has done so much for raising awareness in the work that she’s done.

Sheridan took on the lead role as trailblazer Ann Ming

“I know that we all felt the pressure, Sheridan and everyone, to do this story justice and deliver it in a sensitive way that was going to be impactful and honouring the people that we’ve lost. And also the people that are still fighting for justice, it wasn’t easy but it was also incredibly exciting to be a part of something which felt like it has the opportunity to really help and change people and have a real impact for the better.

“I’m really, really excited for this to come out, and I think it’s going to be, it’s going to be a really different side to me that people haven’t seen before,” he stated, adding there was a “quite a visual transformation.”

I Fought The Law will explore how Ann and Julie’s relatives coped with her baffling vanishing in Cleveland back in November 1989 after completing her shift at a neighbourhood pizza restaurant. Julie had maintained an extremely strong bond with her parents, Ann and Charlie. She was just 22 when she was killed.

Julie’s remains were found by her mother 80 days after they were concealed behind the panel of her bath by her killer. Nevertheless, her terraced property had been meticulously examined by forensics teams in the days following her disappearance.

The series, adapted from Ann’s memoir, For The Love of Julie, also features Daniel York Lou as Charlie Ming and Enzo Cilenti as DS Mark Brathwaite.

Additionally, Marlowe Chan-Reeves, Olivia Ng, Jake Davies, Victoria Wyant, Kent Riley and Rufus Jones all feature in the programme. Previously, Jack joined forces as a Movember ambassador – championing awareness of men’s mental health and urging blokes to open up.

Looking back on his involvement with the Movember campaign, he explained: “I was already well aware of the amazing work that Movember has done and does for raising awareness and funds for male mental health, just to be a small part of history moving forward is very exciting. It’s such an exciting project and a really meaningful project to get behind, male mental health is so under-reported and so unspoken about.”

I Fought The Law airs tonoght at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Coronation Street star makes gut-wrenching debut in rival soap months after quitting

A former Coronation Street star is set to make his debut in Casualty tonight less than a year after leaving the Manchester based soap three years after joining

A former Coronation Street star is set to star in rival BBC soap Casualty less than a year after leaving the Manchester based soap.

Bill Fellows, who played Stu Carpenter in Corrie, is set to star in tonight’s episode of Casualty, starring as pharmacy delivery driver, Terry. It comes a few months after it was announced that Fellows would be making a guest stint in the soap.

The star is set for a dramatic storyline, with his character set to be brutally attacked by a gang during the delivery, spoilers reveal. It comes after last week’s dramatic events, in which it was revealed that pharmacist Sunny was stealing missing morphine.

Things are set to take a darker turn, as spoilers reveal that Rash finds out all – as Sunny explains she’s been doing it to protect her son Jake, who has been groomed by the gang.

It later unravels that Terry’s injuries are due to Sunny telling the gang about the drop-off, but how will things unfold?

The star teased his dramatic role back in February, where he posted a selfie of himself wearing an NHS pass around his neck with the caption: “Another day , Another Casualty.” Days later, he posted an image of himself with special effect make up that showed him with arm and head injuries.

The character of Terry is a far cry from his role as Stu in Coronation Street. ITV fans will remember the character joining the soap in 2021, later growing close to Yasmeen, and becoming a chef at Speed Daal.

However, in 2024, the character decided to leave the street and head to Germany for a fresh start with his granddaughter.

During his three years on the soap, Billy’s character Stu had been involved in a number of hard hitting storylines, including homelessness and wrongful imprisonment.

Stu and YAsmeen
Stu grew close to Yasmeen during his time on the cobbles

The character was previously imprisoned for 27 years for the death of Charlie Walter. It was later confirmed that it was actually his daughter Bridget that was responsible for the death. Stu took in his granddaughter Eliza, and later left for Germany with her.

Speaking about his departure at the time, Bill said: “I’m proud of what we’ve achieved with Stu’s character.

“He started as a man struggling to survive, and now he’s a man who has rebuilt his life, found love, and made a difference. It’s been a complete story arc, and I’m pleased with how it’s all come together.”

He later said it had been ‘surreal’ to work alongside legends such as William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow. “Growing up, I watched it with my family, so being part of it has been surreal,” he said. “I’ve worked alongside legends like William Roache, and it’s been an incredible experience.”

Coronation Street star Adam Hussain speaks out on exit and teases return

Coronation Street viewers saw Aadi Alahan, played by Adam Hussain, leaving Weatherfield on Tuesday night, though it’s already been teased that he could return in the future

Former Coronation Street cast member Adam Hussain has opened up about his departure from the show and teased that he could return in the future. His character, Aadi Alahan, was seen leaving Weatherfield earlier this week.

The actor, 24, had joined the cast of the ITV show in 2020, taking over the role from Zennon Ditchett. Adam announced earlier this year that he had decided to leave Corrie after five years, with his on-screen departure from the soap having then aired on Tuesday night.

His character, Aadi, whose recent storylines had included one centred on drink spiking, was seen heading off to embark on a new life in India. He was bid farewell by loved ones including his twin sister Asha Alahan (played by Tanisha Gorey) and their father Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

Following the episode, a message from Adam was shared with fans through the show’s Instagram account. He said in the video that he had “grown” as an actor whilst in the cast and teased that he wasn’t saying “goodbye forever”.

Adam said: “I just want to say thank you so much to everyone for watching Aadi on Corrie over the years. Y’know, these past five years have been so educational and such an experience. I’ve made friends that will last a lifetime.

“I’ve grown, not just as an actor, but as a person as well. But I just want to say that it’s not goodbye forever – more like a see you later. And if you want to keep watching me, then I will be around in other stuff, so keep your eyes peeled.”

He opened up further about his departure in an interview with The Mirror. Adam explained that he felt that it was the “right time” to leave Corrie, saying that he wanted to “spread his wings” and try other roles.

Adam told us: “I am going to be 25 in October, and I felt it was the right time to leave. It was my decision, and the producers were so understanding. I want to spread my wings a little, go out in the big world and see what else I can do.

“I am really excited as I’ve got a new role in a horror feature film. I can’t say too much yet, but I am looking forward to it. I feel lucky as I’ve also been to lots of other auditions since I finished filming my Corrie scenes in June, and I’ve filmed a part in a short film, Spice For Life, too. We are sending it off to film festivals at the moment. It’s an exploration of cultures coming together.”

The actor shared that relief over Aadi having not been killed off on the show, which means there’s a possibility of the character returning in the future. Adam said: “It’s very relieving to know I can always return whenever I want to.”

He said: “They’ve told me the door will always be left open if I ever want to come back.” Asked if he think he will ever return, he teased in the recent interview: “Never say never! But I do hope Aadi does get a second chance in India.”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow night from 8pm on ITV and ITVX.

Coronation Street’s Adam Hussain’s reason for quitting ITV soap and decision by bosses

EXCLUSIVE: The 25-year-old actor, who plays the son of shopkeeper Dev, Aadi Alahan, left the soap on Wednesday night – but says it was his decision to ‘spread his wings’ and play other characters

After an emotional farewell last night as his character, Aadi Alahan, left Coronation Street’s famous cobbles to start a new life in India, actor Adam Hussain reveals it was his decision to quit.

Having joined Corrie in April 2020 as Dev and Sunita’s son, Aadi, Adam took over from Zennon Ditchett, who had left Weatherfield to concentrate on his A-levels. Prior to that, Aadi and his twin sister Asha were played by triplets Hannah, Harris and Ria Ahmed.

But after five years, the actor says he decided to leave to “spread his wings” and play other characters. And his brave move has clearly proved to be a good one as Adam reveals today he has already bagged himself a role in a new feature film, overseen by award-winning horror director Richard Stanley.

In his only newspaper interview talking about his departure, the actor, 24, tells the Mirror: “My life has changed for the better since I joined Corrie and it has been such an honour to be part of the amazing cast.

“I joined during the Covid pandemic, which was a weird and surreal time to take on a new character. I’ve loved playing Aadi, I have made good friends on the set, and I am going to miss Corrie dearly.

“But I am going to be 25 in October, and I felt it was the right time to leave. It was my decision, and the producers were so understanding.

“I want to spread my wings a little, go out in the big world and see what else I can do. I am really excited as I’ve got a new role in a horror feature film. I can’t say too much yet, but I am looking forward to it.

“I feel lucky as I’ve also been to lots of other auditions since I finished filming my Corrie scenes in June, and I’ve filmed a part in a short film, Spice For Life, too. We are sending it off to film festivals at the moment. It’s an exploration of cultures coming together.”

He is, however, glad Corrie bosses decided not to kill Aadi off. “It’s very relieving to know I can always return whenever I want to,” smiles Adam. “And they’ve told me the door will always be left open if I ever want to come back. My friends on set were gutted when I first told them, but they also understood. They now have high aspirations about what I am going to get up to in the coming years!”

Over the past few weeks, Aadi’s life has spiralled out of control as he turned to booze to get over the guilt of Lauren accidentally drinking his laced drink and the stress of running a business.

It was his dad, Dev, who told him to go and start a fresh life in India with his cousin, Vikram. Initially, Aadi was opposed to the idea, but eventually he came to the realisation that it was the perfect chance to wipe the slate clean.

“He has been really struggling financially with keeping the business running,” explains the star. “But his life spiralled because he also felt so guilty about what happened to Lauren. He started drinking a lot. At first, Aadi was distraught that his dad wanted to send him away, but he knew eventually it was the right decision to get away and have a fresh start.”

Adam says he had mixed emotions filming his final scenes. “It was both scary and exciting,” he adds. “I had a whole mix of emotions because I did get very nostalgic. I also knew it was the right decision to go.”

But thankfully, he says he didn’t fall to pieces shooting the emotional farewell scenes. “I actually had to use a tear stick for when Aadi started crying,” he reveals. “It’s been fun to film this storyline and I also think it has been good to show business owners who are struggling that they aren’t alone. It can be really tough running a business, as Aadi found.”

Admitting he has grown up a lot during his time on Corrie, Adam says he is particularly proud to have been involved in some gritty storylines. From being shot at while protecting his fiancée, Kelly Neelan, and accidentally letting Lauren Bolton drink LCD to having an affair with married woman Courtney Vance and staging a fake robbery at the corner shop, the actor says he has loved the many twists and turns his character has faced.

“I was 20 when I joined Corrie and I’ve learnt so much,” he says. “I still feel like a kid at heart but I am older now and these five years have flown by. It seems like only yesterday I was arriving on set for the first time to play Aadi. I’ve grown in confidence and I’ve learnt so much about how it works on a soap set as well as the industry as a whole.”

Adam says one of his favourite plotlines was a car explosion in 2021 that saw him fight for his life

He picks out a car explosion in 2021 that saw Aadi fight for his life as one of his favourite plotlines. He also loved filming scenes a year later with Millie Gibson, who played Aadi’s fiancée, Kelly. She had been kidnapped by her dad’s criminal associates and was about to be shot. But loved-up Aadi jumped in to save her and took the bullet. Thankfully, the gunshot missed vital organs, but he was then left distraught when Kelly decided to leave Weatherfield for good.

“Aadi got shot trying to protect Kelly,” he recalls fondly. “It was such an honour and pleasure to work alongside Millie. We used Hollywood-style equipment, which was exciting. It was also great fun filming the car explosion stunt in the countryside.

“Filming in the pandemic was also obviously a surreal time, too. We had to keep a seven-metre distance with only two people in each scene at a time, which made filming quite difficult.

“But it’s been fun playing Aadi. I like how he enjoys playing the hero, but he has a flawed side as well. I love his awkwardness!” He also admits he is going to miss Jimmi Harkishin, who plays his on-screen dad, terribly. “I find Jimmi so funny,” he says. “He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. I learned a lot from him, and he became my second dad – my work dad.

“I’ve kept the ‘golf ball’ set Dev gave Aadi when he asked him to be his best man as a memento. It’s in a chest at home, along with other mementoes from all my other acting jobs.

“I grew up watching Corrie and it’s been so surreal to be able to say I’ve been part of the cast. I have to pinch myself sometimes!” Both his charity shop worker mum, Nora, and dad, Azark, a retired hospitality worker, are very supportive of his decision to leave and have even let him move back in with them in Manchester.

Adam – one of four siblings – says they’ve always encouraged him to follow his dreams. “I got into acting when I was in secondary school. I was a quiet child and getting up on the stage was therapeutic for me. It helped me come out of my shell. Mum and Dad are so proud and we watched last night’s scenes together at home.”

After dropping out of college to attend an acting class run by his now-agent Darren Gordon, Adam landed several TV roles including playing Josh Nubhai in ITV’s The Bay for two seasons. He also starred in Absentia and No Man’s Land.

Adam, who is single, says he hopes to one day travel the world with his job. “I’ve already travelled quite a lot before I took on the Corrie role,” he explains. “I would love to travel everywhere, especially America. I want to get into films and the feature film I’ve been signed up to do is a great stepping stone.

“I am single at the moment. I want to concentrate on my work.” However, he stresses he’s not about to change careers. One newspaper report suggested he was working for his family tailoring business in between roles. “My brother-in-law owns a tailor,” he explains. “So, every now and again I go and help out!”

As for whether he thinks he will ever return to Corrie’s cobbles in the future and the actor smiles as he stresses: “Never say never! But I do hope Aadi does get a second chance in India. He is going to live with his rich aunt, so you never know, he might turn out to be the new Prince of Mumbai!”

– Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.
