A LITTLE-known resort with white sands, a Unesco-listed old town and beer for less than £2 tops a new listing of most affordable autumn beach breaks in Europe this year.
Nessebar, on a peninsula in Bulgaria, is No1 in budget airline easyJet’s Cheap Beach Index, thanks to its affordable hospitality and dependable deals on flights and hotels.

The research analysed areas within easy reach of airports that offer affordable direct routes from the UK, and the costs of a typical holiday “basket” of essentials including beer, ice cream and family meals out.
The Budva Riviera in Montenegro came second, followed by Spain’s Costa de Almeria then Costa Dorada.
Lisa Minot describes what makes these autumn breaks winners, and offers some great deals . . .
NESSEBAR, BULGARIA
THIS little gem offers the best of both worlds with golden sands on South Beach and plenty of charm in the Old Town with its Roman and Ottoman architecture, 19th-century wooden houses and cobbled streets.
It’s not all culture, though – the resort has plenty to keep visitors happy with lots of bars and restaurants and a lively nightlife.

The report found beers would cost on average £1.60, while a three-course meal will set you back around £22 for a couple.
GO: Seven nights’ all-inclusive at the 4H Festa Panorama, Nessebar is from £477pp including flights from Manchester departing on September 30, 23kg luggage and transfers.
FOR a more authentic Spanish experience, distinct from the more crowded Costas, the Costa de Almeria is Europe’s only desert landscape, providing a dramatic backdrop.
Highlight is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, a protected area with volcanic geology, hidden coves like Monsul and vast, unspoiled beaches for you to set aside the pressures of life.

Roquetas de Mar is a perfect beachfront town with lots of shops, bars and restaurants close by.
The report found beers will cost just £3 and a meal for two £36.
GO: Seven nights’ half-board at the Best Roquetas Hotel, Costa de Almeria is from £372pp including flights from Southend on September 27, 23kg luggage and transfers.
ALWAYS among the best value of the Costas, this area is known as the Golden Coast – perfect for families with its long, gently shelving golden sand beaches.
Gheorghe Hagi, who played for the Romania national team for 17 years, bought the IAKI Conference & Spa Hotel in 1999 and has given the hotel a big makeover since then.
Now, it has 122 spacious rooms and apartments with rates starting at €60 (£52.04).
Thanks to its location on the Mamaia strip, the hotel has either seafront or lake views.
The hotel has a first-class spa with a hot tub, yoga room, room for spin classes and a wet and dry sauna.
There are outdoor and indoor pools too and even access to a private beach.

The IAKI beach has 220 sun loungers and umbrellas and a volleyball court.
The IAKI has three dining areas too, the Coriolis is open all-year round, has traditional Romanian food including plenty of seafood, and meat like beef tenderloin and lamb chops.
The Ballroom restaurant is where buffet meals are served for guests during the summer period.
IAKI Casino is usually reserved for special occasions, like birthdays, weddings and baptisms.
As for where to get a drink, guests can check out the Piano Bar, Sunrise Bar as well as the bar on the beach.
As the hotel is owned by a former footballer, there is of course a football pitch where both staff and guests can play.
On Tripadvisor, the hotel is rated number one in Mamaia.
One guest wrote: “It has been our 4th visit here and, as usual, the view towards the sea was magnificent, the room was prepared in advance with a baby cot for our daughter, food was excellent.
“I had the chance to see the owner in person again: Gheorghe Hagi, the best Romanian footballer of all time!”
Another added: “Our best memory represents the fact that we met “the king”- Gheorghe Hagi at the front desk and at the hotel’s bar. We took a photo with him and he gave us an autograph.”
It’s easy to get there too, with Wizz Air, you can fly direct from London Luton to Constanta Kogalniceanu from £23.
FOR warm weather, beach resorts and mountain views, Tunisia is slowly becoming the hot new destination again.
The African country had been a popular spot with Brits for years up until the attack in Sousse 10 years ago – but numbers reveal it is rising in popularity once again.

Tunisia has so much to offer for an autumn or winter break for Brits wanting sun, sea and sand.
In November, you can easily laze about on a beach in Tunisia as temperatures can still reach at 20C.
The most popular beaches in Tunisia include Hammamet which is known for its long sandy shores and Sousse, a lively resort town.
Ten years ago, the attack at the Bardo Museum in Tunis followed by the one on the beach resort in Sousse, resulted in plummeting bookings for Brits heading to Tunisia.
Now, statistics have revealed that holidaymakers are returning to the country in similar numbers.
Foreign arrivals to Tunisia have jumped by nearly 10 per cent this year compared with 2024, reaching 5.3 million through July 20, according to the National Tourism Office.
The government hopes to attract 11 million visitors by the end of the year – which is a million more than in 2024.
Back in 2014, there were 7.1 million tourists visiting the country, one year later in 2015, that dropped to 5.3 million.
The capital of Tunisia is Tunis, and is found on the northeastern coast.
Visitors to the city will find an ancient Medina and Roman Mosaics as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.
Tunisia and the island of Djerba

Some of the towns have been described as looking more like GreeceCredit: Getty
Just outside of the capital is the pretty town of Sidi Bou Said which has a completely different feel with white coloured houses and cobbled streets.
It has lots of al fresco eateries and small art galleries with a marina on a sandy beach.
Lisa said that one thing she noticed was that it had an uncanny resemblance to the Greek islands.
Like Mykonos and Santorini, Djerba has vibrant pink bougainvillaea and white-washed buildings with blue window shutters and doors – unlike Greece, coffee costs 25p.
Lisa said: “Relatively undiscovered by us Brits, Djerba is a great-value option for those looking to explore beyond the Med favourites.
“Sizzling insummer, temperatures remain high all the way through to November and rarely dip below the 20Cs, even in the depths ofwinter, making it ideal for out-of-season sunshine.“

The island is a great place to explore for any fans of Star Wars as the small town of Erriadh was used as a filming location.
Back on the mainland, the city of Tataouine was said to have inspired the location for Star Wars with its desert look and unique house exteriors.
George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, even called his fictional planet, Tatooine.
EasyJet runs flights to Tunisia from multiple airports across the UK – one-way flights from London Southend to Enfidha in November are as cheap as £26.
It launched year-round flights to the island of Djerba from bothLondonLutonandManchester with one-way flights starting from £35 in November.
EasyJet even runs multiple tours from Djerba, over the ancient Roman Road that crosses the sea to southern Tunisia.
TUI also offer all inclusive holidays to Tunisia, as do Thomas Cook and On the Beach to name a few.
SOME people enjoy netball or cross-stitch, but my hobby is booking holidays – and I’m really good at it.
I know a lot of people hate searching for a family holiday, working out what resort is best and whether it’s good value for money, but I enjoy it and it can save you A LOT of money.
5
Helen says family holidays are her favourite hobby.
I treat it like a sport, and as a family of four, with two children aged 8 and 5, we have been on some brilliant budget breaks.
There is no better feeling than getting a really great deal for a week in the sun, and I’ve got some great tips to help you do the same.
I go through the flights, hotels and dates with a fine-tooth comb, working out little ways to save.
It’s even easier to do this at the end of the school holidays or in the shoulder season, such as the October half term, because there are some great deals around.
I have been doing this since my early 20s, after picking up the habit from my dad – back then, the best bargains were on last-minute deals.
We used to pack our suitcases, and my dad would be on the phone to Teletext Holidays, nabbing a same-day bargain.
His greatest achievement was booking a flight that had already started boarding. Although we’d never be able to do that now.
However, it’s still a thrill when you lock in a trip for a bargain price. It makes the holiday instantly better.
Sometimes it’s a small saving, like finding a cheaper airport transfer and saving £20, but sometimes my research pays off, saving hundreds, and nowadays it all adds up.
Getting a package deal
Last year, I got my biggest saving yet on a family holiday to Greece.
The Peloponnese penninsula – an underrated Greek holiday destination
By booking everything individually, instead of going for a package deal, I saved over £1000 – which was a third of the price.
I couldn’t believe it!
Having just moved house, we hadn’t booked anything for the summer, hoping to utilise the garden.
But the end of term was approaching, and after months of grey skies and drizzle, I decided we needed a proper holiday.

The best deals were in Greece.Credit: Louis Apostolata Island Resort
Heading first to a popular holiday provider, I browsed the best deals across all six weeks of the kids’ school break.
I didn’t have a set departure airport or destination in mind, and I kept the dates and length of time we’d be away flexible, which meant I had a wide range to choose from.
The deal was pretty good. Flights from London, a week’s half-board in a four-star resort, a suitcase each and transfers to and from the airport in Greece for £3400.
But, since we hadn’t planned on a summer holiday, it was still over budget.
That’s when I started looking into each aspect separately. I discovered that instead of flying with the designated airline, we could fly with Ryanair for half the cost.
Flights were £140 return on the budget airline.
Since we didn’t need four suitcases, we just booked one between us for the week, immediately saving another £150 on the Ryanair flights.
Going onto the hotel’s own website, I noticed that I could book directly with them, and the price was coming up a lot less.
They also had an offer on a room upgrade if you signed up for the mailing list. We actually ended up with a nicer room while paying less.

Helen’s family ended up getting two trips for almost the same amountCredit: Helen Wright
The only thing that wasn’t covered was transfers. On the package deal, a coach transfer was included, but it also stopped at a number of other hotels.
When I looked it up, a taxi to the resort was only £80 return.
However, even with this on top, we still saved a whopping £1001 on the whole trip, which in total cost £2300.
We used the money we saved to book a weekend in Disneyland Paris in October.
Again, I booked everything separately, using the Eurotunnel to drive to France and booking a hotel close to the theme park with 2-day tickets for just £440 for all of us.
Our trip only cost £1300.
After saving money on our Greece trip, I told people that Disneyland only cost us £300!
Book carefully
My advice would be to always book with reputable suppliers, because you could end up forking out more if they are not legitimate.
If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
I do like DIY holidays, but I am not against booking a package deal, and sometimes they are so good, I can’t beat them.
Our favourite places to shop for a package holiday are Jet2holidays and TUI.
Booking a package means you get extra protection for your holiday through regulators like ABTA, ATOL and ABTOT.
This means you’ll get your money back on all aspects of the package in the event of any holiday disasters, like flight cancellations or issues at the hotel – which I wouldn’t have had with my DIY version.
For peace of mind, some people prefer to pay extra and not have to think about that, but massive holiday disasters are rare so I am happy to take the risk.
It all kicked off at the weekend with a thumping 69 – 7 win for England over the USA.

If you’re a Gen Xer or younger, there’s a good chance you’ve contemplated moving out of California.
The reasons are obvious. It’s expensive and difficult to raise a family, pay rent or even consider buying a home.
That struggle isn’t just on the mind of locals. Midwestern and Southern states have recognized an opportunity and are making their best pitches to frustrated Californians.

So, is there a price Tulsa, Okla., could offer you to move? Are the incentives of cheaper gas, much shorter commutes and overall drive times enough of an appeal? I haven’t even mentioned the cost of living and a real chance of buying a home.
Rollins felt socially isolated working a remote job in Ocean Beach for a tech company, but still overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people around her.
Months earlier she read about a program, Tulsa Remote, that would pay remote workers to relocate to Oklahoma’s second-largest city for at least a year. She decided to give it a shot and visit.
“When I was [in California], I was so consumed with the process of day-to-day living — the traffic, getting places, scheduling things,” Rollins said. “Here there’s so much more space to think creatively about your life and to kind of set it up the way you want.”
After five months in Tulsa, Rollins met her significant other at a trivia night. Her partner, with whom she now lives, made the journey from California to Tulsa for school during the pandemic.
“He grew up in Santa Cruz and was living 10 minutes from me down the road in Pacifica, but we never met in California,” she said. “We met in Tulsa.”
What is Tulsa offering?
Tulsa Remote — funded by the George Kaiser Family Foundation — started in 2019, and has sought to recruit new residents to diversify the city’s workforce.
It decided to offer $10,000 to remote workers who would move to the state for at least a year.
The program also provides volunteer and socializing opportunities for new residents and grants them membership at a co-working space for 36 months.
What do the numbers say?
Tulsa Remote has attracted more than 3,600 remote workers since its inception.
More than 7,800 Californians have applied to the program and 539 have made the move, cementing California as the second-most popular origin state behind Texas.
Those numbers reflect something of a wider trend: From 2010 through 2023, about 9.2 million people moved from California to other states, while only 6.7 million people moved to California from other parts of the country, according to the American Community Survey.
A Public Policy Institute of California survey conducted in 2023 found that 34% of Californians have seriously considered leaving the state because of high housing costs.
Zach and Katie Meincke, former Westsiders
The lower cost of living was a huge bonus for the Meinckes when they moved three years ago.
They went from paying $2,400 in monthly rent on a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in L.A.’s Westside to a five-bedroom, three-bathroom house in Tulsa for just a few hundred dollars more.
It ended up being fortuitous timing for the couple, who discovered they were expecting their first child — a daughter named Ruth — just weeks after they decided to move.
The couple are expecting their second child in December.
It’s a life milestone that Meincke says may not have happened in Los Angeles. In California, it costs nearly $300,000 to raise a child to 18. In Oklahoma, researchers estimate it costs about $241,000, according to a LendingTree study this year.
“There was no way we were going to move into a house in Los Angeles unless we had roommates, and that’s not an ideal situation,” Zach Meincke said. “We were 37 when we left Los Angeles and it felt like we were at a point that if we wanted to have all those other things in life — children, a house — we need to make that shift.”

The Uninell Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is now £109, and it has lots of handy features that make it versatile for cleaning all different surfaces.
Firstly, it’s cordless, which makes it easier to clean awkward areas, like the stairs or corners that aren’t within reach of a plug socket.
The cordless battery lasts up to an hour, and charges using a wall-mounted charger.
The handy design also allows you to transform it into a handheld vacuum cleaner, which is ideal for cleaning the car and tackling dirt and debris under sofa cushions and on other soft furniture.
Parents will know that the school holidays equal constant crumbs and mess, and this versatile vacuum is great for quick clean-ups.
There’s a ‘barefloor’ mode for hard flooring, a carpet mode, and a turbo mode for extra-powerful cleans and tackling ground-in dirt and hair.
The Amazon vacuum cleaner has a high 4.8 star rating, with hundreds of shoppers leaving their feedback.
One shopper said: ‘’Honestly would never go back to buying the likes of Miele, Dyson and Shark, of which I have owned over the years.’’
Another shopper commented: ‘’It’s lightweight, powerful, and glides around corners easily, picking up all my dog’s hair effortlessly.’’
‘’Great value for money. Can’t believe how cheap it was for what I got!’’
While a third shopper praised the ‘’Excellent vacuum cleaner’’, calling it ‘’easy to use, lightweight, good attachments, battery lasts long enough to clean medium sized house.’’
They also went on to say: ‘’Can’t differentiate much between this and the much pricier Dyson equivalent.’’
In comparison, Dyson’s cheapest vacuum online right now is £249.99, and that’s the reduced price – some cost as much as £799.

The exact date to get “super cheap” EasyJet flights for next summer has been announced, according to Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert, who shared the news to excited travellers on Facebook
EasyJet customers can bag themselves ‘super cheap’ flights on one date (Image: NurPhoto via Getty Images)
Most Brits love heading on a holiday abroad when the summer months come. However, with the ongoing cost of living crisis, many people find they don’t have as much spare cash to spend on breaks away as they used to.
If that’s you, then listen up, as the exact date to get “super cheap” EasyJet flights for next summer has been announced, according to Martin Lewis‘ Money Saving Expert. The MSE Facebook account shared the news in a post with its 412,000 followers recently, and the post quickly went viral as many travel lovers planned to bag their cheap flights.
Sharing the news, MSE wrote: “Heads up! Super cheap EasyJet flights for summer 2026 are landing on Tuesday July 22.
“If previous releases are anything to go by, being online bright and early is the key to bagging a bargain.”
According to the MSE website, Easyjet releases its flights in batches every quarter of the year – and if you discover what day they’re going to be launched and you book them them quickly, you can get a far cheaper price.
It adds: “EasyJet follows a dynamic demand pricing model – in other words, when there’s lots of demand for seats, you pay more; when there’s less demand, you pay less. Usually it can be tricky to predict, and prices are fluid.
“There’s one point when demand is almost always low… the very second seats are released. This happens in several tranches throughout the year. In the past, these seats have shot up in price within two or three hours of being made available, so being online bright and early is the key to bagging a bargain.”
just because the flights have just gone on sale, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting the best deal. As MoneySavingExpert.com founder
Martin Lewis himself does warn that just because the flights have only just gone on sale, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re always getting the best deal. He says: “This has been a very successful technique for many people, and indeed if you want certainty of a cheap price it’s worth doing. Do benchmark what a good price on that route is beforehand, just so you can check if it’s worth it.
“Though of course, if a particular flight is very substantially under-booked later on, you could get seats even cheaper then – that’s just far more difficult to predict.”
What time will the flights be released?
Easyjet hasn’t announced when the flights will go on sale. It says that customers looking to book early and get great fares for next summer should keep an eye on the Easyjet website from early in the morning.”
According to MSE, the tickets “tend to go on sale as early as 5am or 6am, but sometimes it hasn’t released seats until 8am, and it could depend on the location.”

The small village in Wales is no typical UK beach location
The UK beach spot has an enchanting Mediterranean-style atmosphere(Image: Liverpool ECHO)
Brits longing for an idyllic escape might consider jetting off to distant exotic destinations, but there’s an overlooked treasure right on our doorstep. Portmeirion, tucked away along the Dwyryd Estuary in North Wales, breaks the mould of your average UK coastal spot.
Wander into this village and you could easily believe you’ve landed in Italy, thanks to its captivating array of Mediterranean-style buildings, sun-kissed beaches, and charming boutiques. And the icing on the cake?
It’s reportedly home to some of the UK’s most reasonably priced fish and chips. Last year’s statistics show that visitors typically spend just £8.57 on this beloved dish, according to Capital on Tap.
Portmeirion doesn’t have any permanent residents as it’s primarily geared around tourism and holidaymakers(Image: JasonBatterham via Getty Images)
This placed the coastal gem as the third most economical for fish and chips, trailing only behind Southwold in Suffolk and New Brighton in Wirral. What’s more, it’s got great TV history behind it, having been the location for the filming of hit British TV show The Prisoner.
Portmeirion has also caused quite a stir online, too. Influencer Meera Pankhania is among those smitten with its scenic beauty. “My boyfriend and I were meant to go to Portugal that weekend but as it went on Amber list, we visited here as an alternative and then climbed Mount Snowdon,” she said in a previous TikTok reported by the Mirror.
“We stayed there for two days and while I’ve never visited Italy myself, I felt like I was in Lake Como. To arrive at the place, you travel through some beautiful roads and beautiful scenery.”
Located in the heart of Gwynedd, the enchanting village of Portmeirion was brought to life by visionary architect Clough Williams-Ellis, who devoted five decades to shaping the site after purchasing the land in 1925.
Today, the village boasts a remarkable assortment of nationally significant listed buildings, including the stunning Grade I Listed Portmeirion Town Hall, built in 1938. However, you might be shocked to learn that Portmeirion doesn’t have any permanent residents, as its primary focus is on catering to tourists and holidaymakers.
In fact, the village operates on a schedule, generally opening its doors to visitors from 9.30am to 6.30pm, seven days a week, during the peak summer season. Beyond its impressive infrastructure and unbelievable chippy prices, tourists also sing praises about Portmeirion’s afternoon teas too.
In 2024, one visitor took to TripAdvisor to share their thoughts on this, writing: “The best afternoon tea in the world, in the one of the nicest places. The village is stunning and we really made the most of it, being amongst the last to leave.
“We had afternoon tea in the hotel, which was absolutely delicious.” Meanwhile, another added: “There is no other place in England like this, it is so SO unique and amazing.
Portmeirion also hosts some of the nation’s cheapest fish and chips, according to one report(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
“If you only visit ONE place before you die, hopefully not just yet! then come here. It is SO lovely! We spent hours here, we did have afternoon tea here and if the weather had been better and we could have gone on the coastal and woodland walks, we would happily have stayed from opening to closing time.”
So, it seems that for those seeking an affordable beach escape this summer, Portmeirion might just be the perfect destination.

A travel fan has shared her love for the “most underrated country in the world” with holidaymakers, as the stunning spot has plenty of things to see and do for less than £500
Malta has many gorgeous beaches(Image: arcady_31 via Getty Images)
A holidaymaker is urging travel enthusiasts to visit what she calls the “most underrated country in the world” promising a wealth of activities and an experience that won’t break the bank at under £500. Hannah, a young traveller who regularly shares her top travel tips on her TikTok account @hannahshols, has been captivated by numerous destinations but holds a special place in her heart for Malta.
Nestled below Italy and above Tunisia, this gem of a location is just over a three-hour flight from the UK. On a trip to the diminutive nation with friends, Hannah found that they each spent slightly more than £400 for flights, a five-night hotel stay with access to a rooftop pool, breakfast included, as well as baggage and transfers.
Her TikTok video showcasing the adventure amassed over one million likes. She enthused: “Malta is by far the most underrate country I think I’ve ever visited.”
She continued: “Even though Malta is the 10th smallest country in the world, it is definitely giving big country energy.” The video highlights the destination’s captivating sea views, abundant shops and restaurants, historical landmarks, and stunning gardens.
Reflecting on her September visit last year, Hannah shared why the trip was so memorable: “One thing I loved about Malta was that it was like nowhere I’d ever been before. It’s got such strong Arabic and Roman influences.”
She concluded with heartfelt praise: “It was just absolutely beautiful and everyone we met just seemed so proud to be Maltese.”

The travel influencer recommends a trip to the capital city of Valletta for those visiting Malta. Hannah and her group primarily explored the city on foot or used the bus service, which she described as “super convenient and cheap”.
She suggested: “Just spend a day in Valletta, roaming around, street dining, going to the boutique shops, wandering in and out of the gardens, seeing the cannons being fired at the saluting battery, and checking out the harbour front.”
Hannah also endorsed the Gozo, Comino and Blue Lagoon cruise. This full-day maritime excursion departs from Sliema and offers the chance to see both islands in a single day, along with various landmarks.

According to Hannah, the cost for her and her friends was “around £29 each”. Her video attracted over 1,000 comments, with many echoing her sentiments about the country. A local resident expressed, “I am from Malta and I am so happy that you loved our little island.”
Another user exclaimed: “Malta is stunning, I would go back in a heartbeat,” while someone else remarked, “Genuinely one of my favourite European destinations ever- never gets boring.
“Omg I live in Malta, it’s so underrated,” another commenter posted.
How to get to Malta
A variety of airlines including Air Malta, Easyjet, British Airways, Ryanair, and Jet2 operate direct flights from the UK to Malta. The most frequented route is from London Heathrow to Malta International Airport, located in the capital city of Valletta.
Flights can also be booked from Bournemouth, Liverpool, Norwich, Belfast, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, and Glasgow.
From being bombed in World War Two to ferrying business passengers to Amsterdam, a transport hub which is no longer in use could soon be ready for its next chapter

This ghost town of an airport site could soon spring back into life thanks to a £500 million regeneration. If plans come to fruition, holidaymakers would be able to jetaway to European hotspots on low-cost flights for the first time in 12 years.
The last scheduled flight left Manston Airport in Kent for Amsterdam on April 9, 2014 and since then its been used as a lorry park. Currently undergoing a major refurbishment, the revived airport is slated to reopen in 2028.
The airport can be found in the village of Manston in the Thanet district of Kent, 14 miles north-east from Canterbury by the coast. It was used by the Royal Air Force during the World Wars after it opened in 1918, and was frequently targeted by bombs during World War Two’s Battle of Britain.

Manston has a single runway that is 2,748 metres, or 9,016 feet, long. Wide at 60 metres, it was designed to handle emergency landings for Concorde and the Space Shuttle.
Initially, the revived airport will focus on cargo operations but plans are afoot to introduce passenger services. The multimillion pound revamp will include new terminals and upgraded runways.
The abandoned airport has been used as a lorry park(Image: KMG / SWNS)
Tony Freudmann, main board director at controlling airport company RiverOak Strategic Partners, told Kent Online: “Looking at the way the passenger market is going, we are confident we can persuade one or more low-cost carriers to base their planes here.
“It does not work for us if they fly in just once a day because that is not economic. If they base three or four planes at Manston, we will have rotations three or four times a day, as they have at Southend.
The airport could fly business passengers to Amsterdam once more(Image: PA)
“That will cover our costs and bring passenger footfall through the terminal all day and every day. We will reinstate the twice daily KLM service to Amsterdam Schiphol that we had before and that will give business people in particular access to almost anywhere in the world.”
Passenger routes to the the Netherlands, Spain, Cyprus and Malta could be introduced, flown by budget airlines including Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air.
The car park has subsequently been used as a lorry park(Image: PA)
Survey work is underway at the airport site and expected to be concluded in early 2026. A public consultation into possible flight routes will be launched at that time.
If plans go ahead, construction work is expected to be completed by early 2028, when recruitment for operational roles would begin. Demand for flights at Luton Airport and Stansted Airport is said to suggest additional additional passenger flights would be popular in the region.
The abandoned building could be brought back to life(Image: KMG / SWNS)
“Opening an airport – even one like Manston which already has in place a full-length runway, taxiways and airport buildings – takes a huge amount of preparation and planning first and so it will be many months before we are ready to welcome construction teams on site,” a post earlier this year on the RiverOak website reads.
Opposition to the proposal to revamp the airport has been loud and coordinated, with groups such as Don’t Save Manston Airport noting that the travel hub previously failed commercially and arguing that it will do again. They have argued for increased aviation capacity is bad for the environment.
CHEAP Chinese firms could soon be cut out from government contracts under new rules championing British industry, The Sun can reveal.
Ministers want to prioritise UK-based firms in critical sectors like steel, energy, and cyber, putting them at the front of the queue.
The shake-up would allow the public sector to sidestep foreign tender bids, giving homegrown heroes a bigger slice of Whitehall’s £400bn procurement pot.
Currently, foreign suppliers can undercut British businesses with cheap labour and rock-bottom prices.
But in a push to bolster national security and create jobs across the UK, the likes of British Steel would be prioritised.
Under the new blueprint, now up for consultation, Whitehall departments would also favour British Steel for the £725bn of infrastructure spending earmarked for the next decade.
Meanwhile, firms slow to pay small and medium businesses will be kicked out of the procurement race.
Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Pat McFadden, said: “Strong industry is essential to our national security.
“The new rules being considered will give us the power to protect our national industries, ensuring more money goes to them as we buy goods and services in government.
“Our reforms will boost growth and ensure British industry is supported to deliver national security and our Plan for Change.”
Gareth Stace, UK Steel boss, hailed the move as a game-changer, saying: “The publication of this guidance for steel procurement and the launch of the consultation are unequivocally positive news for the UK steel industry.
“These changes rightly recognise the strategic importance of steelmaking to national security and the vital role of resilient domestic supply chains.”

This little-known Mexican island completely blew me away with its dream-like beaches, affordable prices and wealth of fauna including tropical birds, flamingos and monkeys
This tropical island paradise was very affordable(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
When booking a trip to Mexico, a lot of people flock to the touristy hotel zone in Cancun – but I wanted to veer off the beaten track and stay somewhere more affordable.
So I hopped on a two-and-half bus ride from Cancun’s centre to the port town of Chiquila, on the east tip of the peninsula. From there, I took the ferry to to the lesser-known island of Holbox. I’d heard it was a ‘hidden gem’ and it was recommended on comment threads and backpacker blogs. They promised white-sand beaches, electric Caribbean waters, and mouth-watering Mexican cuisine. It completely blew me away.
Isla Holbox was once a small fishing village, with little more than 100 families and a dozen hotels nestled on its sandy soil. It’s now been expanded to fit even more rooms, hostels and restaurants – but doesn’t feel in any way crowded.
My boyfriend and I opted to stay in a private room in Che Holbox, a modern-feeling hostel just 10 minutes’ walk from the island’s main beach. It cost just £28 per night, with a pool, bar and (crucially) air-conditioning.
As an island on the Caribbean Sea, Holbox is hot: but its proximity to the azure waters completely negates the heat. Shade can be found under gently wafting palms and ducked under market tents. Wandering down its sandy streets, there are hardly any cars – though tourists and locals may trundle past in golf buggies.
As you stroll into the main town there are endless options for food: taquerias, brunch bars, seafood restaurants. On our first morning, we enjoyed a mouthwatering breakfast by the beach with strong American coffee and huevos motulenos: eggs with beans, salsa and fried banana. In the morning, there were hardly any other beachgoers, meaning we could listen to the tropical caws of the great-tailed grackles and the soft lap of the waves as the heat began to stir.
Holbox village contains colourful buildings (Image: Getty Images)
While many parts of Mexico’s Mayan Riviera (which includes Cancun) can become bombarded by saragassum during the summer months – a sulfuric smelling thick brown seaweed – its presence was scarce on Holbox’s shores, allowing you to enjoy an idyllic view.
During the day, we went on a cycling trip through the island to Punta Mosquito: a beach further north where you could spot flamingos. Wading through the warm water, there were several sand banks, meaning you could walk out for a while without needing to swim (although I did spot a sting rays I was careful not to step on).
Punta Mosquito, Isla Holbox
While traversing the beach, we also passed by the island’s large protected wildlife zone, the Yum Balam Reserve. Home to glistening lagoons, mangroves, jaguars, crocodiles, monkeys and turtles, it costs around just £8 for visitors to enter.
After cycling to Playa Punta Cocos, we refreshed ourselves with coconut milk by the beach, followed by margaritas rimmed with lip-licking salt and spice. We also ordered a fresh bowl of guacamole with nachos, while an iguana rested on the tree branch next to us. For the most part, cocktails in bars and restaurants cost around £5, while beers were between £2-3.
You can swim with whale sharks on Holbox(Image: AFP via Getty Images)
While we took it easy, there are countless other activities that holidaymakers can get up to. Holbox is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with whale sharks. Despite their name, these giant sea creatures are known for being very gentle.
There is also a bioluminescent beach, which shows up best during summer months, and which visitors can come to admire once the sun sinks behind the horizon and the sea is lit up by thousands of tiny plankton.
This small seaside hospot is perfect for those who want to jet away but keep the costs down – and it’s based right on the picturesque coast, perfect for catching some sunrays
The gorgeous city is right on the coast (Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
If you are dreaming of a summer holiday but don’t want to fork out thousands, this gorgeous European city might be your answer. With summer in full swing, you may be thinking about jetting off, and now this Turkish city has been labelled as a ‘Dubai dupe’.
With flights to Antalya for a five day trip costing around £640, it’s much more convenient than the same trip to Dubai costing a huge £896. The sunny spot is located on Turkey’s picturesque Turquoise Coast, and is the largest city on Turkey’s western Mediterranean coastline, which is both classically beautiful and stylishly modern.
Spanning across West Asia and Southeast Europe, Turkey (Türkiye) boasts a balmy climate, sugar-like sand, cobalt waters, and acclaimed water parks – making it a great seaside resort for tourists.

Travel site Lonely Plant said Antalya is “very much a destination in it’s own right and said: “The old city wraps around a splendid Roman-era harbour with clifftop views of hazy-blue mountain silhouettes that are worth raising a toast to. Just outside of the central city are two beaches and one of Turkey’s finest museums.”
One of the most popular and best-rated attractions on Tripadvisor is Kaleci, its seafront historic district that dates back to the Roman era. Lonely Planet said it “offers atmospheric accommodation in the finely restored Ottoman houses on its winding lanes.” And within its windy streets, visitors will come across Hadrian’s Gate, the city’s clock tower and the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Cami, an Ottoman-era mosque.
The city promises clear skies, crystal clear sea water and lots of sun(Image: Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
But aside from the attractions, what makes Antalya so special are the beautiful beaches, and tourists can explore the best of the Turquoise Coast’s spectacular views.
Konyaalti Beach is the region’s best-rated on Tripadvisor, where holidamakes can enjoy crystal-clear water and gorgeous views of the mountains. Whle another popular area on the Turquoise Coast is Lara Beach, which is renowned for its golden sand and stretches for 8km long.
It’s an easy destination to get to, with Jet2, British Airways, easyJet, Pegasus and TUI all offering direct flights from the UK to Antalya and the duration is around four and a half hours long. If you’re a true savvy bargain hunter you can get the flights for anywhere between £70-£90.
There is also another spot in Turkey that is quickly becoming a bucket list hotspot four tourists. Goreme, a small town with just over 2,000 residents, is located in the Cappadocia region of central Turkey. It’s close to other notable cities like Nevsehir, Urgup, and Avanos. Despite its modest population, Goreme attracts over a million visitors annually, making it a popular destination for those seeking something different.

The mum-of-two revealed that she and her family decided the cost of living and their busy schedule was too much.
Instead of putting up with it, they sold their house and bought a one-way ticket to Thailand for a new life.
She said: “We didn’t leave because we hated the UK.
“We left because life started to feel like one long checklist we didn’t remember choosing. Wake up. Rush. Work. Nursery. School. Bills. Repeat.

“We wanted more presence, more connection, more sunsets and slow mornings.
“So we sold almost everything, booked a one-way ticket, and figured it out as we went.
“It’s not perfect, but it’s ours, and we’ve never felt more free.”
Lauren often shared her new life in Thailand on social media and recently shared one of their favourite breakfasts while they stayed in Koh Samui.
She headed to one of her favourite food vendors and ordered fried chicken and sticky rice before getting some Thai milk tea.
The mum even said that she thought the iced tea was better than English Breakfast tea.

The mum added: “Hands down they are better than an English breakfast tea. They’re sweet, they’re icy. They do give you that little tea fix.”
She said the next step to the perfect breakfast was to locate the nearest beach.
“The beach closest to our house here is Chong Mon. And if you are coming to Koh Samui, even just on holiday, I really recommend this area,” Lauren said.
“It’s kind of like a mix between touristy but not too touristy.
Moving house hacks
1. Declutter Before You Pack
Sort through your belongings and get rid of anything you no longer need. Donate, sell, or recycle items to lighten your load.
2. Create an Inventory
Make a list of all your items. This helps keep track of everything and ensures nothing gets lost in the move.
3. Use Quality Packing Materials
Invest in sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape. This will protect your belongings during the move.
4. Label Everything
Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This makes unpacking much easier and more organized.
5. Pack a ‘First Day’ Box
Include essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, and important documents. This will keep you from rummaging through boxes on your first day.
6. Take Photos of Electronics Setup
Before unplugging your electronics, take photos of the wiring setup. This will make it easier to reconnect everything at your new place.
7. Use Suitcases for Heavy Items
Pack books and other heavy items in rolling suitcases. This makes them easier to transport and reduces the risk of injury.
8. Colour-Code Your Boxes
Use different coloured stickers or markers for each room. This will help movers quickly identify where each box should go in your new home.
“The beach here is so good for kids because the water is really shallow.”
Finally, she and her family sat down on the beach to enjoy their breakfast with a stunning view.
People were quick to take to the comments in awe of Lauren’s new life.
One person wrote: “Living the dream, I would swap my builders’ tea in England for yours any day of the week.”
Another commented: “I have been following for a while just wanted to say that because of you and your TikTok my future with my kids will look the same!”
“I haven’t seen your posts for ages, glad you’re still enjoying your new life,” penned a third.
Meanwhile a fourth said: “Brekkie on the beach..elite!”
“Love watching your adventures! We are coming to to Thailand in August and can’t wait,” claimed a fifth.

With most of the summer stretching out ahead of us, it’s a great time to get the garden set up and ready for frequent use, and a shed can really come in handy.
It’s described on the listing as ‘tough and durable’, with a timber roof design that rainwater runs off, and it’s also pressure-treated to avoid the problem of wood rot.
Thanks to the treatment, there’s a 25-year guarantee, which is great for peace of mind when you’re making a larger purchase.
Even the site’s most affordable sheds have impressive discounts, and you can now snap one up for under £300, while they can be much more costly elsewhere.
The size of shed you’d need depends on your garden and also your storage needs – for a few items like gardening tools and a lawnmower, the 6ft x 4ft size is probably big enough, without taking over your space.
It comes with a free Yale combination padlock worth £15 too, so you can start using the shed immediately without worrying about security.
There is an end date for the sale though, so you’ll need to be quick if you want to get yourself a new shed before the discounts come to a close on Monday (June 9).
You will need to put the shed together yourself, because it’s delivered as interchangeable panels which means you can choose the placement of the doors to suit the layout of your garden.
The UK’s unpredictable weather can’t be avoided, and the shed’s timber roof design allows for rainwater to run off easily.
Owning a garden shed means you can tuck away your BBQ, parasol or any garden furniture at a moment’s notice, without having to lug anything into the house.
The brand also sells tiny homes like log cabins, garden offices, and playhouses, which are ideal if you’re thinking about making the most of your outdoor space without costly house extensions or rearrangements.

The new Sculpt Midi Bandage Dresses will set shoppers back £169Credit: Instagram/houseofcb
The bandage dress first hit the catwalk back in 1989 as the grand finale of Hervé Léger’s runway show, but it wasn’t until the likes of Victoria Beckham and other celebrities went crazy for the dresses in the 00s that they became mainstream.
Women were scrambling to get their hands on the high-street versions of the designer gowns, made with thick strips of fabric which work to “bandage” your shape and flatten out problem areas.
And now, shoppers will again be able to get their hands on the iconic bandage dresses, as they are now back in House of CB.
The much-loved chain took to Instagram to share the exciting news, leaving many totally stunned.

Alongside the social media post showing off the new frocks, the chain penned: “She’s baaaaaack. Shop the birthday bandage collection now and be ready to serve some cake.”
According to those at House of CB, one of the “most iconic party dresses is back for another dance”.
The heavyweight stretch fabric of these £169 Sculpt Midi Bandage Dresses, which are available in a number of different colours and styles, features unique tension properties that contour your body and create curves to envy.
The dresses are now elevated with even more definition around the bust and waistline, as well as flattering halter neck straps and a low scooped back that shows just the right amount of skin.
A fashionista from London named Christie, was gobsmacked to see the figure hugging frocks back in stores and took to social media to share the news with others.
Posting online, the content creator gave her followers a close-up look at the House of CB dresses and gasped: “Bandage dresses are BACK??!!”

One person said: “Love it! I remember I bought my first bandage dress at 20 back in 2007.”
Fashion editor reveals the 90s trends that should stay in the past
NINETIES and noughties trends especially have become a hit with Gen Z – most likely because they didn’t wear them the first time round. Here, Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale gives the rundown of some of the trends that have made a comeback that we wish did not.
Disc belts
“A hit with celebrities like Victoria Beckham and Blake Lively, the belt itself did nothing that a belt should actually do – it was a mere fashion statement, not a piece to actually hold anything up.
“And it seems it’s not just me who is enraged by its return, with many taking to TikTok to give their views, saying: ‘Oh no not the disc belt! I don’t think I have the energy for it a 2nd time around’ – I feel you.”
Jelly shoes
“After not being seen on shelves for decades, they’ve made a reappearance and this time they’re not just for kids.
“Coming in a range of colourful patterns, you can get them all over the high street in either flat or heeled versions.
“Not only will you look very childish wearing such shoes, but people will also need to learn that they aren’t the comfiest – blister plasters will come in handy.”
Pedal pushers
“The cropped knee-grazing trouser were all the rage in the 1990s and 2000s, but this time the model fash pack are all over them – with both Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski wearing them out recently.
“The original IT girls, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot helped make the trousers – also called Capri pants – look effortlessly cool and glam.
“Somehow this time round they don’t seem to be having that same effect.”
Another added: “I can live my early 2000 dreams.”
A third commented: “YEEEEESSSS SORRY BUT I LOVE IT.”
However, at the same time, someone else sighed: “I can’t get behind it, I’m sorry.”

A second disappointed shopper slammed: “They’re trying to make 2016 happen but it’s too early. Give it 10 years at least!! This isn’t how vintage and nostalgia works…”
Not only this, but another expressed: “They went away for a reason!”
Meanwhile, one woman penned: “I can’t shake the tacky vibes I get from them.”

Simon Calder was speaking on ITV’s This Morning as he discussed different destinations for Brits to consider over summer – and one place stood out in particular for value
Bulgaria has many sunny beaches for tourists to enjoy(Image: Getty Images)
Travel expert Simon Calder has revealed the ultimate cost-effective hotspot for sun-seekers looking for a bargain break, tipping Bulgaria as a top budget-friendly summer destination. Simon waxed lyrical about the beauty spot, emphasising that savvy travellers can bask in all-inclusive luxury while enjoying prices reminiscent of a bygone era. “Bulgaria. It’s a great, great destination. Cheap as chips,” he raved.
“This is an all-inclusive favourite. Great long beaches and prices which are kind of out of the 1980s.” Reassuring that Bulgaria offers tremendous value, he said that it’s roughly a third of the cost compared to a holiday in Italy, with just a slight language challenge thrown into the mix.
“It’s really cheap when you get there,” Simon declared. “So whatever you want, whatever you’d be spending in Italy for instance, you just divide it by three and that’s what you’d pay in Bulgaria.
“You’ve got to master the Cyrillic alphabet though. Back to front Rs and all that but it’s a three hour flight so just do that on the plane.”
According to Muveone, a pint of local beer in Bulgaria will only cost you around 3.00 BGN, which is roughly £1.50. The country offers popular destinations such as Burgas, a city on the Black Sea Coast.
It boasts stunning beaches and is just a short distance from the lively Sunny Beach – a favourite amongst young Brits. Visitors can also explore the city’s Sea Gardens, home to a vast array of sea plants from across the globe, designed by landscape artist Georgi Duhtev.
Alternatively, head to Lake Atanasovsko for a relaxing dip in its black mud pools for a natural yet luxurious spa experience.
Further south of Burgas lies the ancient seaside town of Sozopol. Here, the Old Town provides a glimpse into local history and the tranquil Kavatsite Beach.
Sozopol offers breathtaking views of the Black Sea, and tourists can take a boat trip to St Ivan Island to spot monk seals and birds.
