Gogglebox viewers have come together to defend cherished stars Dave and Shirley Griffiths after nasty internet bullies took aim at them online.
The Welsh duo initially appeared on the Channel 4 programme back in 2015 – and it wasn’t long before they captured viewers’ hearts.
Throughout the years, Dave and Shirley – who have been wed for 49 years and are mum and dad to two youngsters – have left audiences in hysterics with their side-splitting quips and observations about the newest television offerings.
Beyond the programme, Dave and Shirley consistently update their supporters via their Instagram account – which boasts a remarkable 208k followers.
On Friday (September 19) the couple posted on the social media site and revealed a sweet snapshot of themselves whilst on their overseas getaway, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Dave and Shirley displayed their affection in the photograph as they grinned towards the lens. They wrote alongside the image “Happy #gogglebox Friday everyone #fresheveryfriday don’t forget tonight #channel4 9pm drinks and snacks out it’s gogglebox time.”
Nevertheless, whilst numerous Dave and Shirley admirers were thrilled by their post, the duo faced a barrage of vicious remarks from online tormentors.
Racing to the couple’s defence, one supporter penned: “These are funny people on Gogglebox but why do people have to make comments about her face we are all getting older and you can’t do much if you’re prone to wrinkles give her a break.”
The backing wasn’t missed by Dave and Shirley who ‘liked’ the message. Another devotee also commented: “People can be so mean.”
To fans’ absolute joy, Dave and Shirley have made their comeback for the fresh Gogglebox series – which kicked off earlier this year. Nevertheless, things are looking rather different, as it was confirmed in July that cherished stars Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle wouldn’t be making a return.
The pair etched their names into Gogglebox folklore as the inaugural Scottish duo to join the programme back in February 2022.
Breaking the news of their exit from the Channel 4 programme, Roisin turned to TikTok to deliver the disappointing news, penning: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26.”
Gogglebox continues every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
Debbie Slater, the mother of Jay Slater, who went missing in Tenerife in 2024, is heard speaking to UK police the day after her son went missing in a new Channel 4 documentary
Jay Slater’s mum says her “legs turned to jelly” and she called police to report him missing
In a new Channel 4 documentary, viewers will hear Debbie Duncan speak to the UK police the day after Jay went missing on holiday. “He has been located miles and miles away from where he is staying, up a bloody mountain,” she tells UK police after calling 999.
She then tells police how Jay spoke to his friend Lucy Law but only had 1% battery so the conversation was short-lived and speaks of her concern and not knowing the two lads he went off with.
Jay, 19, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing in Tenerife in June 2024 after attending a music festival.

CCTV footage showed him in nightclubs but he then got into a car with two men he had met on the holiday and was driven to an Airbnb in the remote village of Masca, about 22 miles (36km) away from where he was staying.
It is thought he then tried to get back to where he was staying and got into difficulty.
On a separate second call to Spanish police, his friend Lucy tells them: “My friend he’s met some people, and they’ve drove him up into the mountains. I don’t know why and he’s left the house,
“And I don’t know if something happened, and I was telling him, you need to go back to your friends and tell them to drive you back down. And he said ‘No, I can’t. I can’t’. But I don’t know why that was.”
The Disappearance of Jay Slater airs on Channel 4 next Sunday night and has never-before-seen CCTV footage, previously unheard audio, the discovery of unsent messages, and access to the Slater family as they search for answers about what happened to Jay.
After the calls to police a huge search was launched before Jay’s body was found in a remote area near the village of Masca on 15 July.
Debbie paid tribute to her late son at an inquest into his death in July
Within hours of Jay ‘s disappearance in the summer of 2024, mass online interest set conspiracy theories flying, causing a social media storm led by true-crime keyboard detectives.
The case became the focus of global attention, with over 30 million videos online speculating about Jay’s whereabouts.
At an inquest into Jay’s death in July, the late teenager’s mother told how her son’s death had “touched the hearts of the nation”. Debbie gave a tribute to the 19-year-old, whose death from head injuries was ruled an accident, following a two-day hearing at Preston Coroner’s Court.
Coroner Dr James Adeley ruled Jay, who had taken a number of drugs, had fallen in a dangerous ravine, suffering un-survivable head injuries while try to walk back to his holiday let across mountainous terrain in Tenerife, in July last year.
Debbie, accompanied by the teenager’s father, Warren Slater, wept as she told the court her son was “full of fun and was always a joy to be around” with many friends.
He was close to completing his apprenticeship as a bricklayer, was learning to drive and had been “counting down the days” to his first holiday with friends abroad.
“Not in a million years did we predict what was to unfold,” she said. “He had a large circle of good friends who have been left devastated at his tragic death. Our lives will never be the same without Jay in it.”
Her son’s disappearance prompted huge media coverage and sparked a multitude of conspiracy theories on social media.
Debbie added: “He may of just been a story for the past 13 months, a story full of untruths. He did touch the hearts of the nation and that overwhelms us. We ask you to please now let Jay rest in eternal peace.”

Jay Slater’s disappearance sparked a social media storm as the 19-year-old tragically died while on holiday in Tenerife after sending a haunting message to his friend
A vast search was carried out in an effort to find Jay after he was reported missing on June 17, 2024. Sadly, Jay’s body was found in a remote area near the village of Masca on 15 July.
The search for Jay revealed he had vanished after being driven about 22 miles into the mountains to an Airbnb with two men he had met on the holiday. He fell around 80ft to his death in a treacherous ravine while trying to walk back to his accommodation in Los Cristianos.

Within hours of Jay’s disappearance, mass online interest set conspiracy theories flying, causing a social media storm led by true-crime keyboard detectives. The case became the focus of global attention, with over 30 million videos online speculating about Jay’s whereabouts.
Now, a new documentary is set to detail his family’s hunt for answers and is the first time they have spoken publicly about the tragic case. During one moment, Jay’s mum Debbie Duncan recalled finding an unsent message when she logged onto her son’s Snapchat account.
After finally receiving Jay’s phone, Debbie found a devastating unsent message to his friend. She said: “When we signed into Jay’s Snapchat there was an unsent message from Jay to Brad [Geohegan].
“So the message was obviously just flying around and then the message sent to Brad, which obviously gave Brad a fright. He messaged me straight away ‘are you on Jay’s phone?’. I said yeah we’ve just signed into his Snapchat.
“He said ‘I’ve just got a message that’s just come through from Jay’. The last message he sent. He said ‘listen, I’m not going to make it’. It’s kind of like he knew he just wasn’t going to make it.”

Jay’s phone is believed to have ran out of charge when his call to friend Lucy Law ended at 8:50am. The documentary plays the desperate ‘999 call’ she made to Spanish police where she tells them: “Jay said he is going to die up there”.
Lucy had known Jay for about six years and was the last person to speak to him on the phone. On the call to Spanish police, Lucy tells them: “My friend he’s met some people, and they’ve drove him up into the mountains. I don’t know why and he’s left the house,
“And I don’t know if something happened, and I was telling him, you need to go back to your friends and tell them to drive you back down.
“And he said ‘No, I can’t. I can’t’. But I don’t know why that was.” The police then asked for the friend’s name and Lucy tells them it is Jay Slater.
The police ask if her friend has asked to be rescued and she added: “Yes, said he feels like he’s going to die up there. And then the phone cut off.” The audio from the call with the police has never been heard before and sheds new light on the events of June 17.
Channel 4 ’s new film The Disappearance of Jay Slater will air next weekend. The Disappearance of Jay Slater also has never-before-seen CCTV footage, previously unheard audio, the discovery of unsent messages, and access to the Slater family as they search for answers about what happened to Jay.

However, as the conversation turned to current affairs at the end of the episode, viewers were left less than impressed.
The likes of sisters Ellie and Izzi, best friends Jenny and Lee, and pals Abbie and Georgia tuned in to watch news coverage of Tommy Robinson‘s rally last weekend.
Several of them were disgruntled to see Elon Musk make an appearance, while others shared their views on the march.

“When will people work out that immigrants aren’t the problem?” Gogglebox star Helena asked, adding: “My brain can’t understand that level of tribalism.”
“I don’t think you were brought up like that, anyway,” her mum replied, as Helena agreed and laughed: “No, you’ve never said ‘Britain are for the British’ over dinner to me, I’ve noticed that.”
Meanwhile, new couple Andrew and Alfie said: “For f**ks sake,” saying the influence Tommy Robinson has is “frightening”.
“I don’t think this has United the Nation, this is thuggery,” Lee said.

Ellie and Izzi added that they were “genuinely scared” of the people attending the marches, with Ellie saying: “I feel like they’re more likely to be violent towards me as an individual and a woman as a migrant is.”
Meanwhile, other Gogglebox stars took a different view, with Annie telling husband Ronnie: “The people I know who went to it are definitely not far-right fascists.”
As the show ended, Tremaine told his brother Twaine and Tristan: “When I was young, that flag said, ‘Don’t come in this pub’, that flag said, ‘Don’t come down this road’, that flag says, ‘I don’t like you’. I grew up in a time when it was used for that and now it’s being used for that again.”
One person wrote on X: “#Gogglebox turned from entertainment to political in tonight’s show. Switched off, not sure I’ll bother in future.”

Another fumed: “Spent years watching Gogglebox but tonight was the last night after the ‘coverage’ of the @TRobinsonNewEra event on Saturday. Woke propaganda at its best. Did they get extra money for supporting the far far far left?”
Someone else said: “What have the t**ts at @Channel4 done to #gogglebox ! Use to be top television but now unfortunately bullshit left propaganda! Such a shame!”
“Love #Gogglebox hate when the narrative has to be sold,” another wrote.
Someone else seethed: “Should be goggle lefts! extreme bias in force, pathetic to watch, let people have their own opinions not what’s popular among brainwashed sheep. PS I don’t like either side.”

One viewer claimed: “#Gogglebox is a left wing propaganda tool but tonight they really went to a new level with their finishing piece. A smear on the patriots and people who care about their nation marching at the #UniteTheKingdom rally. Completely biased production. The left are losing.”
“Won’t be watching anymore,” one wrote, though someone took a different view, writing: “Another great episode, it gets better every week.”
Another added: “The end of #gogglebox hit hard tonight. Using a flag to gesture that people from other cultures are not welcome. Just wrong. It’s regression.”
Taskmaster viewers were left speechless as two contestants used their sense of taste to guess an array of items on Thursday
21:40, 18 Sep 2025Updated 22:09, 18 Sep 2025
Taskmaster fans issued the same complaint as they fumed over the “most disgusting” detail on Thursday (September 18).
The hit Channel 4 programme returned for its 20th season last week, with five new comics taking on more silly challenges set by Alex Horne and Greg Davies.
The latest cast includes Ania Magliano, Maisie Adam, Phil Ellis, Reece Shearsmith and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
Tonight’s episode began with the five comedians bringing in an object that was the hardest to describe.
Maisie brought in the concept of being in the womb, which Greg struggled to comprehend, so she received five points for the prize task.

The contestants were then asked to identify five items from behind a screen, with the most correct items taking home the highest amount of points.
The Taskmaster didn’t make it easy for them, though. Each comedian could only choose one sense to help them guess, with certain senses earning more points than others.
If they chose hearing, they’d get five points for every correct item, with smell earning four points and taste getting three points. Touch was worth two points, while sight was only worth one point per item.
Both Maisie and Reece chose to use their taste, with the pair awkwardly licking various items through the screen, including a stapler, a frozen sock, yoghurt and wet teeth.

After watching the challenge, the show’s viewers quickly shared their frustration on social media, with many complaining about the “disgusting” nature of the task.
“Reece and Maisie licking wet human teeth in a bowl is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen on #Taskmaster – and that’s saying something!” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another added: “Just watched someone lick a bowl of human teeth. Ah yes taskmaster the silly game show,” while a third said: “Gross.”

A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: “I was going to take it back but no… this is STILL the round they should have deleted,” with another adding: “Omg this is so difficult to watch!”
A fifth viewer said: “My god watching Maisie and Reece doing that task was horrifying,” while another commented: “That task was the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen.”
After receiving 22 points across all of the challenges, Reece won tonight’s episode.
Kelli Hollis, who played Yvonne Karib in the Channel 4 show, has opened up about her time on the iconic comedy drama and how she recently re-watched it for the first time in years

Shameless was a huge hit on Channel 4
Two decades have passed since gritty comedy drama Shameless first graced our television screens – and one of the programme’s stars has recently revisited it for the first time in years.
The Channel 4 series ran for nearly ten years and was based on the fictional Chatsworth council estate in Manchester, where Frank Gallagher and his enormous family caused chaos at every turn.
Kelli Hollis, who also appeared in Emmerdale, memorably portrayed Yvonne Karib, a character who operated the neighbourhood shop and gave work to Frank’s son Ian, who subsequently began an affair with her spouse.
Speaking with the Manchester Evening News, Kelli, 49, revealed that she recently turned to Shameless for some evening viewing – and wasn’t let down.
“Shameless,” she remarked with affection. “I actually watched the first episode fully for the first time in years the other day. Everyone always asks me about Shameless and I watched the first episode which was interesting. You forget how good it is!”
Yvonne (left) talking to Ian Gallagher (right) with her husband Kash in the background(Image: Unknown)
Commending the programme created by Paul Abbott, she added: “When you say Shameless you think nudity, bad language, drugs and Frank Gallagher (played by David Threlfall) is the iconic character.
“But I think rewatching it, it is so beautiful when I think of some of the scenes. It is so well put together and it is actually a lot deeper than what people think. When you go back and watch it, you think, oh God yeah, it is actually really human in that respect.
“It is not just telling scandalous stories from a council estate. There is so much more to it so I really enjoyed watching it the other day.”

Shameless, now available on Netflix, aired its final episode in 2013 after an impressive run of 11 seasons and 139 episodes. Its popularity even sparked a US version – a successful series that ran from 2011 until 2021.
Despite the years, many fans still approach Kelli, a native of Beeston, Leeds, with questions about the show, and many recite memorable lines from Frank Gallagher, affectionately known as “Frankisms”.
One of his legendary quotes was: “People say the children are the future, teach them well and let them lead the way. But after you’ve had eight of your own, you realise that’s a load of ********. Darwin had the right idea; just leave the ****** to fend for themselves.”

Another gem included: “Son when you have them, little babies, you love them. Even if they’re real mingers. I mean when Ian was born he looked like David Gest.”
Kelli returned to the UK in November after spending over two years in Thailand. She reflected on Shameless following a powerful interview about her father, who was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

She went on to make a brief return in 2017 before bowing out for good.

Speaking to The Sun on behalf ofCasino.org, JJ opened up about whether or not he speaks to people from his series of MAFS.
JJ appeared on Married At First Sight UK in 2023, firstly marrying Bianca Petronzi before striking up a romance with co-star Ella Morgan.
When asked if he is still in touch with anyone, he said: “Not on a basis where we would message and check in with each other, apart from with Luke and with Terence.
“There is a boys’ group chat with all the boys in there. It’s pretty quiet now.

“It was lively at first, but now it’s just like, happy birthdays.
“Or if someone’s going out, they’ll be like, I’m here, if anyone fancies a beer, stuff like that. But on a day-to-day basis, no.”
JJ’s comments on Married At First Sight UK come after he and his girlfriend Katie Price underwent his and hers surgeries.
The former glamour model, 47, and JJ had planned to go under the knife together, but he was banned from having an op.
JJ was forced to change his plans due to his Type 1 diabetes.
Katie Price reveals boyfriend JJ Slater got ‘hair transplant’ in Turkey after initially being denied surgery
She filmed her beau and shared the video on Snapchat as he underwent a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) procedure.
He had the work done at the last minute after his plan to have his eye bags removed couldn’t go ahead.
“I went to Turkey to have the bags under my eyes done, but I couldn’t have it done,” he explained in our exclusive earlier this week.
JJ went on: “I was all in the gown, wearing the knee-high socks, ready to go down. But my blood sugars were flagged.
“I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after the show, actually.
“So yeah, my blood sugars, there was a reading in my blood that they weren’t happy with, so they didn’t do the procedure. So recovery was fine, as it didn’t happen.”
Speaking about his diabetes diagnosis, JJ said it “was definitely one of the biggest life-changing things since the show”.
He went on: “Type 1 is an autoimmune disease, so I’ve done a lot of research into it.
“One of the potential triggers can be stress – not scientifically proven, but it does make you wonder, given everything going on around that time.”
He added: “I was 31, had never had any issues before, and suddenly I was really ill for about two months. But being a typical bloke, I just ignored it, thinking it would go away.
“But then, when I did get really ill, my dad was like, mate, you’ve got to get yourself to the hospital.”
Recalling when he was diagnosed, JJ said that he lost nearly two stone and was really thirsty.
“It’s a bit disgusting, but I was also passing blood in my urine,” he explained.
“That was the biggest trigger for me – that was when I told myself I had to get myself to get checked out.
“But since then, it has helped me. Now I’m more focused on what I eat because I have to, and I try to be a lot healthier.”

Prior to viewing an advertisement created by charity Versus Arthritis, Jenny disclosed her condition, stating: “I’ve got arthritis.”
She went on: “I get more stressed now because I can’t fasten my coat. I can’t open a tin of beans and I’ve got to ask somebody. And that I think is the worst, when I have got to ask somebody because I feel like I am stupid.”
In a statement following the advert, Jenny confessed: “I’ve suffered with arthritis for a while now. I think something people don’t realise is the impact the condition has on simple everyday life. I really do think we should change that by being able to talk about it openly. It’s really important to me.”
Pete’s tragic passing
Pete sadly died a few years ago(Image: Channel 4)
In 2021, Gogglebox star Pete McGarry tragically passed away from bowel cancer at the age of 71. He joined the show alongside his wife Linda in 2013.
Speaking about his death at the time, Linda revealed that Pete was told he had six months to live, but sadly died just days later, as reported by The Sun.
Linda told the publication: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years. I said to him, ‘We’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other.’ He was my life.”
Mary’s brush with death
Mary contracted a deadly infection(Image: Channel 4)
Giles Wood and Mary Killen have been regulars on Gogglebox since 2015. However, years ago, Mary had a near-death experience.
In a chat with The Guardian, Mary disclosed: “The closest I’ve come to death was contracting Legionnaires’ disease in 1999.”
She went into detail about the terrifying experience, saying: “I caught it from air conditioning in the Bahamas and developed something called Beau’s lines: white ridges across the fingernails which are a sign that your body’s shutting down for death.”
Having survived the ordeal, she admitted: “It knocked the stuffing out of me. I’ve never been quite the same since.”
On Friday night, Channel 4 viewers tuned in for a brand new instalment of the beloved show, Gogglebox
It looks as though Channel 4 viewers were less than impressed with the latest episode of Gogglebox as more new faces were introduced to the show.
Last week saw the introduction of several newcomers, including Mother and daughter-in-law Sara and Lara, friends Jake and Calum and family Andre, Sarah and daughter Chee, following one recently axed star breaking their silence on being dropped.
However, during the latest episode, another new duo made their debut on the popular show, sisters Rosie and Susie.
Although it looks as though fans of the long-running programme haven’t been blown away with the new additions, with some believing they’re not being genuine.
Taking to X, one person said: “Why so much air time for those Scottish sisters, left one is totally over acting and playing to the camera. So fake, while point is to be normal and react to what your watching. Too much.”
Two new additions made their Gogglebox debut on Friday night(Image: CHANNEL 4)
Someone else added: “There is a lot of desperate over acting from the new peeps, making it less authentic. If it wasn’t broken, why ‘fix’ it?”
While a third demanded: “Stop all this performative nonsense and be authentic #Gogglebox”
In agreement, someone else said: “No offence but these new Goggleboxers are not natural they know what #gogglebox fans like and their trying too hard. Not naturally funny [sic] forced.”

Although there were some people who were thrilled with the newcomers, with one person commenting: “Liking the new Scottish sisters already #gogglebox”
The new families on Gogglebox come after Scottish duo Roisin and Joe were axed from the show. The couple first appeared on the Channel 4 show back in 2022 and quickly became fan-favourites of the series.
However, announcing their exit, the duo commented: “”After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch out legs and have not asked us back for season 26.
The Scottish duo weren’t asked back by Channel 4(Image: PA)
“Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family. We couldn’t be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!
“It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.”
EXCLUSIVE: Stand-up comic Maisie Adam is taking on the new series of Channel 4’s Taskmaster – but admits that it wasn’t always plain sailing in an exclusive chat with The Mirror
Taskmaster star Maisie Adam has revealed that she struggled with her outfit throughout filming the show(Image: Channel 4)
Given her chilled on-stage persona, you might think stand-up comic Maisie Adam never gets flustered. But she discovered a much angrier side to herself on Taskmaster.
The 8 Out O f 10 Cats star felt like a competition winner when she joined the cast of the hit Channel 4 series, alongside Unforgotten ’s Sanjeev Bhaskar, Inside No. 9 ’s Reece Shearsmith and comedians Ania Magliano and Phil Ellis. But she admits the show brought out some “deep-rooted anger” that she took out on hosts Greg Davies and Alex Horne.
“It’s really fun going into the tasks at the time, but I was so shocked at how stressed I got with each one,” she confesses. “I didn’t realise I was such a panicky person.
Ania Magliano, Maisie Adam and Phil Ellis taking on a Taskmaster challenge(Image: Channel 4)
“I was very quick to blame Alex and his silly little clipboard and quite quick to get personal with him. I would also protest to Greg if I thought he’d been unfair with the points-awarding.
“I know I can be competitive but competitiveness mixed with a total lack of ability is a dangerous mix to have exposed to you with a mirror held up.”
Maisie credits her husband Michael Dobinson, who works in the tech world, for keeping her grounded. The pair got married in 2023, shortly before she took part in that year’s Soccer Aid.
“He’s very supportive and likes to watch stuff that I’ve been on, but it’s really nice that he isn’t in comedy. If you’re both in it, it can sometimes be a bit of a bubble. You forget there’s a real world out there,” she admits.
“Comedy is quite a self-absorbed job. It’s always about you, whether you’re funny or not. It’s quite a validation-seeking profession. I would worry that if I was with somebody who was also in comedy, we’d end up asking each other for feedback.”
Maisie is more than happy not to talk about her work when she’s at home with Michael.
“I guess some people really enjoy being able to both relate to the same frustrations and highs and lows of their job, but some, like me, can’t imagine anything worse than discussing it when you’re in your own home,” she says.
“There’s comedian Maisie and there’s Maisie at home. I quite like getting home and turning off Maisie the comedian and just being a football-obsessed normal person.”
Maisie Adam, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Alex Horne, Greg Davies, Phil Ellis, Ania Magliano and Reece Shearsmith on Taskmaster(Image: Channel 4)
Maisie has been on TV panels with comedy greats and has interviewed football legends on her Big Kick Energy podcast, but Taskmaster gave her the chance to finally spend time with her childhood hero: host Greg Davies.
“My mum and dad took me to see Greg when I was 14 at our local theatre,” she says. “He had this bit about a student who got locked in a storage cupboard from when he was a teacher. It was the first time I’d seen live stand-up comedy where I’d been literally bent double and my ribs hurt from laughing. Tears were streaming down my face.
“If you’d told that person that 15 years later she’d be on Taskmaster with him, that would have blown her mind. I couldn’t bring myself to fangirl over him on set – I didn’t want him to feel awkward, so I played it cool.”
But it was hard to stay nonchalant when dealing with wardrobe malfunctions throughout the series.
“My plan was to be like Sandy from Grease – she does whatever it takes to come out on top. She changes herself and takes up smoking to win the top prize. In that case it’s a man, which doesn’t reflect well any more.
“The difficulty was, I didn’t blow the budget when it came to getting the outfit. It was cheap and synthetic, so I slipped on everything because of the cheap shoes – and the flammable leggings would catch on everything.”
As a result, Maisie’s trousers regularly fell down on the show. “It was mortifying and it got progressively more humiliating and, dare I say, depressing as the studio records went on,” she cringes.
“This was going to be a common theme – flashing my underwear thanks to a pair of synthetic leggings on the biggest comedy show I’ve been waiting years to be booked on. That’s probably my number one regret.”

Hollyoaks viewers are convinced that Mercedes McQueen will have a new romance with one of the show’s most beloved characters in the wake of her son Bobby’s death
Hollyoaks fans think a new romance is on the cards for Mercedes (Image: C4)
In recent episodes of the Channel 4 drama, Tony Hutchinson (Nick Packard) was wrongfully arrested and jailed for Bobby’s murder. Bobby, an escaped prisoner, had crossed paths with Jez after discovering that the serial killer had taken the life of his social worker Ian.
Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) went to extreme lengths to hide his crimes, leading to the brutal murder of Bobby in shocking scenes. His body was subsequently run over by Tony.

Mercedes is determined to prove that Chester legend Tony is responsible for her son’s death. However, upcoming scenes reveal that Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) is organising a fundraiser at The Dog to assist Tony with his legal costs, something Mercedes won’t take lightly.
But bringing Tony to justice might not be the only thing occupying Mercedes’ thoughts. Observant viewers are predicting she will start a new romance with Darren Osborne (Ashley Dawson), reports the Manchester Evening News.

Derry Girls actress Siobhan McSweeney appears alongside Will & Grace star Eric McCormack in a new BBC thriller, playing a supporter of US President Donald Trump
Siobhan McSweeney has ditched comedy for “straight” drama in her next role – playing an American supporter of Donald Trump in BBC thriller Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue.
The six-part murder-mystery is written by the creator of Foyle’s War, Anthony Horowitz, and features a cast of nine main characters who survive when their plane crashes in the Mexican jungle.
But in the plot they then begin to die one after another in strange and violent ways and soon realise there is a murderer in their midst. As the story unfolds in flashback, viewers will meet the survivors as they battle to stay alive against the heat, a shortage of supplies – and each other.
IN the plot Siobhan’s character is a motel owner, and she and her husband are huge Trump supporters
Derry Girls and Amandaland star Siobhan, 45, said the whole project had been a departure from the norm for her. “It’s the first time, apart from theatre, that I’ve played an American, so the accent was a challenge,” she admitted.
“Another challenge would be one that’s the same with every show, where you’re going to spend an awful lot of time with these people and you worry if you are all going to get on. It turned out to be one of the most joyful jobs I’ve ever been on.”
In the series by Horowitz, who has also scripted Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Midsomer Murders, Siobhan plays a Trump-loving Texan woman who runs a chain of motels with her husband, who is also on the plane and a fully signed up member of the Make America Great Again campaign.
The actress, 45, is best known for her role as acid-tongued Sister Michael in Derry Girls(Image: This picture may be used solely for Channel 4 programme publicity purposes in connection with the current broadcast of the progr)
She laughed that in real life if she was caught in a similar situation to this group, she’d be a goner. “I’d be dead within two days!” she said. “What really comes across, which is something that you never think about in these survival stories, is that you think they’re on the move but they’re not. They’re stuck in one area. They’re stuck beside the plane, so I guess I’d die of boredom.”
When it hits the screen later this month viewers will also see Will & Grace favourite Eric McCormack, who plays a doctor who has been struck off. He says that if the situation was real, he’d fare even less well. “I’d last 30 to 40 minutes,” he declared. “Actually, I take that back. There’s a full bottle of vodka on the plane, so I’d last six to seven hours, until the vodka ran out.”
She also proved a huge hit in Amandaland, in which she plays a stressed-out chef(Image: CREDIT LINE:BBC/Merman/Natalie Seery)
Siobhan, who also hosts Channel 4’s Great Pottery Throwdown and is currently fronting the Irish version of The Traitors, said she jumped at the chance to film in “Mexico”, which was actually Gran Canaria. “Then there was the idea of filming in the Canary Islands for the summer, whereas I usually get to film in Northern Ireland. So it was like ‘Let’s have a bit of fun’.”
Writer Horowitz said he hopes that BBC viewers enjoy the series. “I’ve always believed that murder stories are popular because they’re about the search for truth. We live in a world in which it is very hard to be sure of anything anymore – we have 24-hour news, fake news, post-truth. How do you know what’s real any more? But whodunnits lead to absolute truth. It’s revealed at the end of the final episode.”

In the short clip, significant moments flashed up on-screen including when the pair first moved into the flat as well as decorating a Christmas tree.
This was followed by shots of the empty flat after they moved all of their belongings out of the home they once shared.
A background voice is heard saying: “It was official, a new season had begun. After all, seasons change, so do cities, people come into your life and people go but it’s comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart and if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.”
She captioned the post: “Oh I will miss you flat #movingout.”
In July, the two took to social media to share: “After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore, we are leaving the Gogglebox family.
“We couldn’t be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching TV with you all on Friday nights!”
They added: “It’s been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don’t actually need subtitles.”
“We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family!
“We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely. It for sure has been a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Gogglebox favourites reveal major milestone in relationship – after being brutally axed from show
A spokesperson for Channel 4 said at the time: “We thank Joe and Roisin for their contributions to Gogglebox over the years, and wish them all the best for the future.”
The new series of Gogglebox kicked off last night but fans were left fuming after Roisin and Joe weren’t included in the line-up.
Taking to X, one raged: “What’s happened to Joe and Roisin, they were the funniest ffs.”
Another added: “Can’t believe they got rid of Roisin and Joe, some of the boring b******s on this they could of p***ed off.”
A third tweeted: “I’m missing Roisin and Joe already.”
Meanwhile a fourth begged: “Can someone explain why have we replaced the lovely Scottish couple with pretentious posh p****s who aren’t even funny. just noo f*** off!!”
Sisters from Edinburgh, a family from Surrey, friends from Glasgow, a married couple from the Cotswolds, and a mother and daughter-in-law from Yorkshire all joined the show in last night’s instalment.

The series has been showered with praise from viewers on IMDB. One viewer gave it a perfect 10/10 review, saying: “Each episode builds on the one before it. It is stunning. I’m not going to give any spoilers away, but this is the most visually astounding thing I’ve ever seen come out of UK, and that includes Downton Abbey.
“The acting is amazing, there are so many strong performances that it’s impossible to pick out just one; the storyline riveting, the costumes are pitch-perfect, and there’s more than a little sex, drinking, and romance.”
Another 10/10 reviewer chimed in: “Some months ago, I binge watched all of S1 over a weekend. Real life was effectively cancelled until the closing credits of the final episode. It was a glorious, immersive experience. This is a genuine ‘Jewel’ of a show.”
A third fan gushed: “Fabulous show. The acting is superb, the characters and the writing top notch, the attention to detail and historical accuracy amazing.”
Henry Lloyd-Hughes starred in the period drama filled with political intrigue(Image: CHANNEL 4)
Another viewer added: “The setting is beautiful and the audio and visuals and costumes really bring you into the series. I can almost smell the air of the mountains.
“There are several themes running through the series and you can see things starting to come together into a more coherent whole by the 3rd episode. I would rate this series as one of the best i’ve seen – along the lines of Downton Abbey or The Wire.”
Another viewer gushed: “It’s a really lovely show. I had tried to watch it when it was first broadcast on PBS, but somehow it was not compelling enough and I somehow got the sense that the story would be insubstantial. I’m so happy I went back to the show and starting watching again.
“I didn’t give the show enough of a try or sometimes it just happens this way. I remember my first attempt at seeing “The Wire” didn’t work, but then a year later I went back to see what the rest of the American viewers and critics were raving about.”
Julie Walters led the period drama(Image: CHANNEL 4)
Indian Summers debuted in 2015 boasting a brilliant cast featuring Dame Julie Walters, Nikesh Patel and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, with the Channel 4 series hailed as the successor to Downton Abbey.
Taking place in 1932, the programme chronicled the final chapter of British Colonial Rule in India during escalating political upheaval as the country fought for freedom from its imperial overlords.
The programme brimmed with political scheming and cunning characters, leaving numerous individuals in dangerous circumstances.
The star-studded cast also includes Madeleine Mathers, Game of Thrones actor Patrick Malahide, Jemima West, Gandhi star Roshan Seth, Fiona Glascott, Lillete Dubey, Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson, Amber Rose Revah from Netflix’s The Punisher, Art Malik, and Rachel Griffiths, among others.
Gogglebox legends Dave and Shirley defended after being trolled with cruel comments

Jay Slater’s mum Debbie recalls harrowing moment she called 999 to report him missing

Jay Slater’s haunting final message that was never received by his pal revealed
Jay Slater’s disappearance sparked a social media storm as the 19-year-old tragically died while on holiday in Tenerife after sending a haunting message to his friend
20:33, 21 Sep 2025Updated 20:43, 21 Sep 2025
Jay Slater sent a haunting final message to his friend, which was only delivered following his tragic death. The 19-year-old went missing while on holiday in Tenerife last year after attending a music festival with his pals.

Gogglebox fans all say the same thing minutes before Channel 4 show ends
Channel 4 viewers were left furious at the end of the latest episode of Gogglebox
22:29, 19 Sep 2025Updated 22:40, 19 Sep 2025
Furious Gogglebox viewers have vowed to boycott the series after watching tonight’s episode (Friday 19 September).
The telly critics treated fans to their reactions to a disturbing Netflix documentary on catfishing and an emotional moment from Davina McCall’s Long Lost Family.
Gogglebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4

Channel 4 Taskmaster fans issue same complaint as they fume over ‘most disgusting’ detail
Taskmaster is available to stream on Channel 4

In this instalment, the amateur bakers were tasked with the Monkey Bread challenge.
As Alison Hammond, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith chatted to the hopefuls, fans highlighted a hygiene mistake.
It involved contestant Nadia Mercuri, 41, who is a hairdresser from Liverpool.
Viewers spotted how Nadia touched her hair followed by the food she was preparing.
One wrote on X: “I really wanna just grab of all Nadia’s hair and tie it up properly!!”
Another added: “Stop touching your hair NADIA and then touching the food – disgusting!”
While a third said: “It really bugs me that these women are just letting their hair freely go over the food like that.”
Nadia ultimately advanced to the next episode – with bridal designer Carol “Pui Man” Li being eliminated.
It was recently revealed Bake Off was rejected for five years before arriving on our screens.
Back in 2010, the now-adored programme made its debut on BBC Two.
Co-creator Richard McKerrow recalled himself and Anna Beattie fighting for bosses to put their faith into the format.
Speaking at Edinburgh TV Festival, he shared: “We pitched Bake Off for four or five years.
“We were told it would be like watching paint dry, no one was interested.”
The Great British Bake Off made the move from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017.
This decision saw judge Paul Hollywood being the only star to remain on board.
Fellow original judge Mary Berry as well as hosts Mel & Sue all opted to bow out.
Paul was joined by Prue Leith and new host Noel Fielding, with various co-hosts over the years.
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4.

‘I starred in Shameless and have only just rewatched it – what I saw floored me’
Kelli Hollis, who played Yvonne Karib in the Channel 4 show, has opened up about her time on the iconic comedy drama and how she recently re-watched it for the first time in years
Liam McInerney Content Editor
09:20, 17 Sep 2025

Former Celebs Go Dating star Tom Zanetti posted the picture alongside his friend and wrote a touching tribute.
He penned: “So horrible. I was with him two weeks ago and speaking on Insta just recently.
“What a nice talented man, a natural comedian and obvs huge legend in boxing.
“So sad. Love and strength to Ricky’s family and friends.
“We never know what’s round the corner. We have to enjoy every day, take care of ourselves and each other.”
It comes after Ricky, 46, was found dead at his home over the weekend.
It’s thought pals called the police after they were unable to contact him.
Friends were ‘initially worried’ after The Hitman missed a gym session on Friday and was absent for an event in Bolton on Saturday, featuring one of his young boxers.
They then made a “concern for welfare” call to the police.
Cops discovered Ricky’s body at his £1.75million mansion in Hyde, Gtr Manchester, just before 7am.
Police yesterday said that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Friend DJ Tom found love earlier this year with model Hope Phillips after being single for four years.
He was last in a relationship with Made In Chelsea star Sophie Hermann.
Tom last dated Sophie after meeting her on Celebs Go Dating: The Mansion in early 2021.
Fans watched them fall for each other, with Tom joining her show Made In Chelsea that year.
However, just six months after they got together The Sun exclusively revealed how the couple had split up.
In the past, Tom has been open and honest about the tragic death of his girlfriend when he was in his early 20s.
He previously admitted to The Sun how he had spent years “trying to replace” his late girlfriend Lizzie.
The star’s world was rocked in 2010, aged 21, when his girlfriend of three years died in a car crash.

Zoe Lister is making a shock return to the Channel 4 soap – eight years after her last appearance.
The actress – who played Zoe Carpenter in the long-running soap – spent four years between 2006 and 2010 on the show.
She went on to make a brief return in 2017 before bowing out for good.
And more recently she’s found worldwide viral fame as the voice of the Jet2 Holidays advert that’s become an internet sensation.
But now The Sun has revealed that Zoe will be going back to the job that made her famous.
A source said: “Zoe will be returning to Hollyoaks for a brief stint soon.
“She’s really excited and it’ll be a huge treat for fans as the show celebrates its 30th anniversary.”
However it will spark theories on where her former on-screen brother Stephen Beard is these days.
His character Archie was involved in some huge storylines, including drug addiction and being kidnapped by gangsters, throughout his two years on the soap.
Viewers last saw Archie on screen in 2010 when the character exited after falling out with his friends due to his continuing drug habit.
And now the former actor has given up a life of fame and reinvented himself as a property expert in Dubai.
It’s world’s away from Hollyoaks!

JJ Slater reveals who he still speaks to from MAFS cast as he recovers from ‘his and hers’ surgery with Katie Price
MARRIED At First Sight star JJ Slater has revealed who he still speaks to from his series’ cast.
Currently recovering from his and hers surgeries with his girlfriend Katie Price after they jetted out to Turkey together, JJ has lifted the lid on his MAFS experience and unveiled the two people he still speaks to.

Speaking to The Sun on behalf of Casino.org, JJ opened up about whether or not he speaks to people from his series of MAFS.
Read More about JJ Slater
“It was lively at first, but now it’s just like, happy birthdays.
“Or if someone’s going out, they’ll be like, I’m here, if anyone fancies a beer, stuff like that. But on a day-to-day basis, no.”
JJ’s comments on Married At First Sight UK come after he and his girlfriend Katie Price underwent his and hers surgeries.
The former glamour model, 47, and JJ had planned to go under the knife together, but he was banned from having an op.
JJ was forced to change his plans due to his Type 1 diabetes.
Last month, Katie revealed that JJ had gotten a “hair transplant” in Turkey.

Inside Gogglebox star’s health issues from cancer to ‘so close to death’ after infection
There are plenty of Gogglebox stars who have lived heartbreaking health battles
Numerous Gogglebox personalities have confronted devastating health challenges over the years.
Since the cherished long-running Channel 4 programme launched over 10 years ago in 2013, it has brought us countless memorable households across the nation.
From Giles Wood and Mary Killen in Wiltshire and the Siddiqui clan in Derby to best pals Jenny Newby and Lee Riley in Hull, the participants consistently delight audiences with their brilliant quips and amusing reactions to the week’s television gems.
Nevertheless, various of the show’s personalities are battling serious health conditions and have candidly shared their ordeals throughout the years. reports the Manchester Evening News.
Sue’s Bell’s Palsy revelation
Last year, Sue Sheehan disclosed that she was battling Bell’s Palsy, which has impacted her ability to communicate. The South London resident – who appeared on the programme in 2019 alongside husband Steve – discussed the condition during a Gogglebox episode.
“I mean, I’ve had to relearn to do a couple of things since this Bell’s palsy,” she explained. Sue continued: “One is to speak through the side of my mouth, and the other one is chewing. Chewing takes a long time.”
Steve responded: “I have offered to chew your food for you, but you declined.” Sue then shot back: “I’m not having that.” Steve added: “I’ve got to say, you haven’t lost the sharp side of your tongue though, have you?” She quipped: “No, it’s sharper than ever actually.”
Tremaine’s cancer fight In 2020
Tremaine Plummer – who became part of Gogglebox in 2016 alongside his brothers – marked five years of being cancer-free following his battle with bowel cancer.
Sharing a hospital bed photograph on Instagram, he penned: “When I first saw this photo it made me feel sick and weak. I hated this photo for a long time. But now this photo is my medal. This was me 5 years ago. Post surgery for bowel cancer.
“One of the worst things that could have happened to me has turned into one of the best. Not everything bad that happens to you is the end. Out of some bad s*** comes good s***. The entire experience has been an eye opener and I view life totally different now. Stay strong.”
Jenny’s ‘awful’ condition
Gogglebox star Jenny Newby became part of the programme in 2014 alongside best pal Lee Riley. Yet in 2018, Jenny disclosed she has been struggling with arthritis.
In 2021, Gogglebox star Pete McGarry tragically passed away from bowel cancer at the age of 71. He joined the show alongside his wife Linda in 2013.
Speaking about his death at the time, Linda revealed that Pete was told he had six months to live, but sadly died just days later, as reported by The Sun.
Linda told the publication: “Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years. I said to him, ‘We’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other.’ He was my life.”
Mary’s brush with death
Gogglebox airs every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.

Gogglebox sparks fury as fans issue same demand minutes into show
On Friday night, Channel 4 viewers tuned in for a brand new instalment of the beloved show, Gogglebox
Too much.”
Gogglebox is available to watch on My4.

Taskmaster chaos as star Maisie Adam suffers ‘mortifying’ wardrobe malfunction
EXCLUSIVE: Stand-up comic Maisie Adam is taking on the new series of Channel 4’s Taskmaster – but admits that it wasn’t always plain sailing in an exclusive chat with The Mirror
READ MORE: Brookside icon Ricky Tomlinson pictured as Bobby Grant for the first time in 37 yearsREAD MORE: Must-watch shows this week: King and Conqueror, Dear Viv and Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over
“I was very quick to blame Alex and his silly little clipboard and quite quick to get personal with him.
Taskmaster airs Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 4.

Beyond the small screen, Pete is happily married to wife Paige, who works as an emergency services call handler. The couple are proud parents to two youngsters, Jimmy and Eva.

Hollyoaks fans ‘work out’ Mercedes McQueen’s new romance amid Tony Hutchinson’s jailing
Hollyoaks viewers are convinced that Mercedes McQueen will have a new romance with one of the show’s most beloved characters in the wake of her son Bobby’s death
Hollyoaks fans are speculating that Mercedes McQueen (portrayed by Jennifer Metcalfe) is on the brink of a new romance following the tragic death of her son Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe).
Darren and his wife Nancy (Jessica Fox) have been fraught with worry following their daughter Morgan’s disappearance, causing tension between them.
However, more heartbreak is looming as it’s confirmed Darren is not Morgan’s biological father, revealing his wife’s infidelity.
Hollyoaks fans are convinced that the grieving Mercedes and troubled Darren will find solace in each other and begin an affair.
One fan speculated on X: “Gonna make some theories for what I think will happen in #hollyoaks within the next year: Darren will end up in a relationship with Mercedes.”
Another chimed in: “Bet with the Tony and Nancy stuff, Mercedes and Darren are gonna be a item next #hollyoaks.”
A third responded: “Oh dear god don’t even come up with that.”
“I definitely think Mercedes and Darren are gonna end up having an affair or something #hollyoaks,” another added.
While another declared: “Loving the Mercedes and Darren interaction #Hollyoaks.”
Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am

Derry Girls icon Siobhan McSweeney reveals major ‘challenge’ for new BBC thriller

– Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue will air on BBC1/iPlayer this September

Gogglebox favourites reveal major milestone in relationship – after being brutally axed from show
Gogglebox favourites Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle have revealed a major milestone in their relationship – just months after being axed from the Channel 4 show.
The couple announced they’re moving out of their flat in Glasgow as Roisin, 26, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt reel.

The move comes after Roisin and Joe, 28, were sensationally dumped from the iconic show earlier this year.
The pair, who were involved in a terrifying accident, wrapped with the words: “Time to watch TV in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn.”
Instead, the pair were replaced by a whopping five new families in the biggest cast shake-up in years.
Sisters from Edinburgh, a family from Surrey, friends from Glasgow, a married couple from the Cotswolds, and a mother and daughter-in-law from Yorkshire all joined the show in last night’s instalment.

Netflix Thursday Murder Club star’s ‘pitch-perfect’ costume drama is a must-watch
This period drama is a compelling watch
If you’re on the hunt for a new period drama to lose yourself in, this relatively recent series from Channel 4 with a star from Netflix‘s Thursday Murder Club is worth checking out. It follows hot on the heels of another costume drama that’s been hailed as “first class” and a top-notch Shakespeare adaptation, reports the Manchester Evening News.
