A woman who jetted off to Turkey on holiday was left floored when she bought a McDonald’s meal. The holidaymaker, known as Emzie, said she was gobsmacked when she was handed the bill after she snapped up a meal at the airport.

She said the price of a McDonald’s meal is “ridiculous” at Antalya Airport, as it was “nothing speical” when compared to offerings at UK stores. Emzie posted about the incident on TikTok as she couldn’t believe how much money it cost her to purchase a few burgers, and many people agreed that the prices seemed to be more expensive than you’d expect.

In the clip, she said: “What can I say? McDonald’s at Antalya Airport – crazy prices. They want €20, which is roughly about £18, for a Big Mac meal – that’s a regular size.

“We got two triple cheese burgers, a medium Coke and a medium Fanta, and in total in English that was £37.00. There’s nothing special about it.”

Emzie said she didn’t think the meal was worth the hefty price tag, and people shared their personal views in the comments too. Many couldn’t believe their eyes after they saw the receipt, and the video prompted hundreds to comment.

One person said: “We paid £94.” Another wrote: “I spent €85 there for me and my two kids.”

A third also replied: “Omg – they are disgusting prices.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “How can anyone afford to pay that or want to pay that? It’s actually insane.”

However, despite people sharing similar experiences, others were quick to point out that they didn’t think she should have bought the food if she considered it too expensive.

Someone else chimed in with: “Can’t buy it and the complain. You saw the prices before buying.” Another added: “Just don’t buy them?”

One more also wrote: “Don’t buy it then. Eat before you leave the hotel. Most drivers in Turkey stop on the way to the airport at a diner or shop.”

Even though people had varied views, some have been raisng concerns about rising prices in Turkey lately. There are reasons why inflation has hit the popular holiday destination, according to reports.

Why is Turkey becoming so expensive?

There are a few reasons why prices are said to have shot up in Turkey. Statista shared some advice.

The website reads: “Domestic producer price indices have been continuously rising, which has directly resulted in a price increase in all consumer goods and services. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in all commodity groups increased extremely since 2022.

“In the same year, the food and non-alcoholic beverages category had one of the highest inflation rates in the CPI. This particularly affected Turkish consumers, as these products accounted for the highest share of household expenditure in 2023.

“Since 2020, food prices have increased significantly around the world, and Turkey is no exception. Although inflation has started to slow down recently, food prices in Turkey continue to go up steadily, increasing by 48.6 percent in November 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year.

“It is not surprising that food inflation has not simmered down, as the producer price index (PPI) of agricultural products followed a constant increasing trend in the country over the past few years.”

However, it’s noted the country is also taking steps to help boost tourism, including addressing rising prices, making tourist offerings more diverse and investing in infrastructure. The Government is said to be working to reduce inflation, and some people are also promoting niche tourism areas like spas and health care.

McDonald’s has been asked to comment.

Dave Ryding: British skier to retire after 2025-26 season and Winter Olympics

To date, Ryding has achieved seven World Cup podium finishes, capped by his historic gold in the Kitzbuhel slalom.

In the aftermath of that race, Ryding said he had “never stopped believing, never stopped trying” – encapsulating his “Northern grit” and determination to rise to the top of the sport, despite the odds being stacked against him.

Unlike most of his global peers, Ryding was not brought up on snow.

His first experience of skiing came as a six-year-old on a plastic dry slope in Pendle, Lancashire, while he did little training on snow until he was 13. He continued to race on the dry into his early twenties.

He had a late breakthrough to the top circuit of the sport, earning his first World Cup points just a few weeks shy of his 26th birthday and not adding any more until two years later.

It was in Kitzbuhel, Austria, that he stood on a World Cup podium for the first time with silver in 2017, while his most recent medal, a bronze, came in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, in December 2023.

His best finish at the Olympics is ninth at Pyeongchang 2018, but Ryding feels he has “left something on the table” at the Games, where he will be watched by his nearly three-year-old daughter, Nina.

“I think ninth is not a true reflection of my ability,” he said.

For one last season, Ryding will train with British team-mates Billy Major, 28, and Laurie Taylor, 29. They have big boots to fill, but follow tracks that have taken British skiing to a whole new level.

“Hearing kids openly and talk normally about World Cup podiums, it almost makes me laugh, because this is nuts,” said Ryding.

“I don’t necessarily go to a race thinking of podiums, but the next generation are certainly thinking that.

“The belief that I’ve given to the next generation, I absolutely see it, and I’m really excited to see what that becomes for the next 20 years.”

‘My childhood disappeared an instant after our British Airline flight was taken hostage’

A fascinating Sky Documentary airing tonight tells the shocking scandal of British Airways Flight 149, that was held as a hostage of war by Saddam Hussein in 1990

Jennifer and John Chappell, child hostages who were on Flight 149
Jennifer and John Chappell, child hostages who were on Flight 149

Jolting, rocking and explosions left the passengers on a British Airways flight terrified before their flight became a hostage of war. The extraordinary – and until recently, officially denied – scandal is told in the fascinating Sky Docs and NOW TV documentary Flight 149: Hostage Of War (on tonight, June 11th, at 9pm). It explores the unbelievable story of what happened when a civilian plane unwittingly touched down in the middle of a warzone in 1990.

Jennifer Chappell was just 12 years old when she was one of those taken hostage in Kuwait on Flight 149 – and the terror of those four months has left her traumatised for life. She says: “My future was stolen. The danger was very real and present, there were soldiers with guns. It was such a horrible experience. That was the last shred of my childhood gone.”

A hostage thriller played out when British civilians landed in a warzone

The tragedy unfolded on August 2, 1990, just after Saddam Hussain’s forces stormed Kuwait, when BA Flight 149 stopped there to refuel on route from London Heathrow to Madras. Jennifer, who was travelling with her mum, dad and older brother John, recalls: “I was looking out of the window and I saw two planes go past and then I saw things fall from the bottom. I thought I was seeing a horrible midair collision.” Then came the realisation it was bombs.

The passengers and crew found themselves trapped, held as hostages by Hussein, becoming pawns in a rapidly escalating international crisis. For over three decades, the British government denied any prior knowledge of the invasion, but new information has come to light and some of the hostages are taking the British government and BA to court to seek justice and the truth. Passenger Barry Manners says: “I’d like the unvarnished truth.”

SPEED CAMERAS: ARE THEY OUT TO GET YOU? 5, 8pm

Are speed cameras targeting us for extra cash, or are they innocently keeping us safe? Well obviously we could all just drive a bit slower, but this tongue-in-cheek show is packed with drivers complaining about these “sneaky” cash cows. In England and Wales in 2023, we racked up 2.6 million speeding offences, costing motorists over £200 million. The money goes to central government where it can be spent on anything.

Not ideal says motoring expert Quentin Wilson, who says: “If the public saw that the revenue raised from speeding fines made a visible difference, then perhaps the public would be more behind them.” However, Chief Constable Jo Shiner, National Police Chiefs Council lead for roads policing, says: “We should be trying to educate people that there’s a speed limit for a reason and it’s there to make our road’s safer.” This documentary also looks at 20mph roads, the impact of driving awareness courses and meets people looking at our driving behaviour, all hoping to slow Britain down.

British woman cries as Benidorm holiday ‘ruined by too many Spanish people’

Pensioner Freda Jackson had been looking forward to her holiday in Benidorm all year, but ended up outraged at the number of Spanish guests at her hotel

A British tourist claims she ended up crying at the end of her two-week holiday to Benidorm as her hotel had “too many Spaniards in it”.

Freda Jackson, from Blackburn, Lancashire had booked to stay at the Poseidon Playa, located on the outskirts of the popular tourist spot with a pal back in April 2017.

The following year, the pensioner, who is in her eighties, opened up about the allegedly miserable time she had on her trip raging, “why can’t the Spaniards go somewhere else for their holidays?”

According to retired care assistant Freda, her hotel was full with supposedly “rude” Spanish people, one of whom almost knocked her “flying” without so much as an apology.

Grandmother Freda Jackson,
According to Freda, the ‘rude’ Spanish holidaymakers ‘got on her nerves’(Image: Lancashire Telegraph / SWNS.com)

Grandmother-of-six Freda, who lives with mobility issues, revealed: “The hotel was full of Spanish holidaymakers and they really got on our nerves because they were just so rude.

“One evening a Spanish guy nearly knocked me flying and he just walked off without even apologising.”

And when it came to the entertainment on offer, unimpressed Freda was left far from amused. She recalled: “The entertainment in the hotel was all focused and catered for the Spanish – why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”

As explained by Freda, she’d been recommended the Poseidon Playa by travel operator Thomas Cook, and was left dismayed on a number of counts.

Although she’d request flat ground access, Freda says her accommodation was located on a slope. She and her friend, who had paid a total of £1,133 for the holiday, went on to demand either a full refund or a free trip as compensation.

Hotel Poseidon Playa
Freda’s time at the Hotel Poseidon Playa reportedly reduced her to tears(Image: tripadvisor)

Freda continued: “I have never complained about a holiday before – but this one was a disaster from start to finish. My friend and I paid for it from our pensions and it was a struggle trying to fund it over 12 months and the holiday was totally ruined – I cried after.

“We wanted to go somewhere on flat ground and not in the hills because we have mobility issues. To top it off, once we got to reception they told us we had been put on the 14th floor – thankfully we were moved to the second floor – and that it was 42 steps down to the hotel’s swimming pool.”

Freda, who has previously enjoyed trips to Greece, Turkey, Portugal and Tenerife, alleged that Thomas Cook “mis-sold” and “ruined” what should have been a dream holiday.

She and her then 61-year-old friend journeyed 1,500 miles from Manchester Airport to Alicante on May 10 of that year, having allegedly not been notified that their flight dates had changed.

According to Freda, she had to submit a letter of complaint directly to Thomas Cook, as there were no reps on the holiday to whom she could air her various grievances. Thomas Cook bosses initially offered the duo a £75 holiday voucher as compensation for the “disappointing” experience.

A Thomas Cook spokesperson issued the following statement at the time: “Due to a system error Ms Jackson was not informed of a change to her flights until six days before departure.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused and are investigating to make sure it doesn’t happen again. We have offered Ms Jackson and her travel companion a gesture of goodwill to try and put things right, which we hope she will accept.”

The grandmother later denied to the Mirror that she had made any derogatory comments about Spanish people.

British woman charged over death of Australian in e-scooter crash

A British woman has been charged in Australia over the death of a man she allegedly hit while riding an e-scooter after a night of drinking.

Prosecutors told magistrates that Alicia Kemp, 24, hit Thanh Phan, 51, from behind at speeds of 20-25km/h (12-15mph) on a pavement in Perth city centre on 31 May.

The father-of-two hit his head and died two days later, prompting police to charge Ms Kemp with death by dangerous driving while under the influence. The charge carries a maximum 20-year prison term.

In a subsequent court hearing, prosecutors alleged Ms Kemp, of Redditch, had been drinking with a friend before both boarded the same scooter. She was denied bail and faces court again on 15 July.

Prosecutors told Perth Magistrates’ Court that CCTV footage showed Ms Kemp’s “inexplicably dangerous” driving, “evasive action” taken by others in her path, and the moment of collision with Mr Phan as he waited to cross the road.

Ms Kemp was denied bail by a magistrate on the basis that she posed a “flight risk”, after prosecutors argued that she was in Australia on a working holiday visa and could attempt to leave.

British media reported on Saturday that her parents were flying to Australia to support her. Her boyfriend has been present at the court hearings in Perth.

Ms Kemp faces an additional charge of dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm while under the influence for injuries suffered by her passenger, who was thrown from the e-scooter and suffered a fractured skull and broken nose.

Police say Ms Kemp had a blood alcohol content level of 0.158 when she hit Mr Phan. The legal drink-driving alcohol limit in Australia is 0.05.

The court heard that the pair had been drinking on the day since 14:30 and were forcibly evicted from the bar because of intoxication.

The pair hired the e-scooter just before 20:30.

In a statement last week, Mr Phan’s family described him as a a beloved husband, father, brother and dear friend.

He had worked as a structural engineer and had previously lived in Sydney, as well as Vietnam and Singapore, Australian media reported.

They called for a review of safety regulations around the use of hire e-scooters “to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk”.

Perth’s city council suspended the use of hire e-scooters on Thursday, with authorities removing the vehicles from the street this week. Deputy Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds called Mr Phan’s death a “tragic event”.

Western Australia’s police minister is also reviewing e-scooter regulations.

British man orders pint in Benidorm but is totally floored by price

A British man ordered a pint in Benidorm but was left totally floored by the price. The man, who appears to be no stranger to Spain, was taken aback when he was told how much a drink would set him back at the popular holiday hotspot.

Known as the Benidorm Fanatic to his TikTok followers, he told people he headed to Uncle Ron’s bar, which is said to be “famous” for its pints, notable for how cheap they’re sold for. As he ventured to the venue, he was left astoudned at the price list, as he seriously got a lot for his money.

In the clip, he said: “I tell you what, I believe it’s actually a very, very nice pint as well, so it comes to the equivalent of about 84p in British money. Let’s go and try it out, shall we? Let’s give it a try.”

After he made his way to the bar, he added: “So there you go, I’ll give you a euro, a €1 pint, and I’ll take that. Let’s try this €1 pint. Look at that – a nice, clean, cold pint. It’s got a nice, good head on it – let’s try it.

“That is actually one of the best pints I’ve had in one of the popular bars. That is actually one of the best pints I’ve had in Benidorm to be honest with you. €1, I’ll drink them all day.”

Since he shared the video, many people have viewed it, and they were quick to comment too. They shared their thoughts, and some posted their own Benidorm stories.

One said: “Wow.” Another shared: “I was there last week.”

A third replied: “Lovely pint. Had many.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Bargain.”

If you’ve never heard of Uncle Ron’s before, it’s a popular spot for British tourists in Benidorm. As well as being known for its cheap drinks, it also serves food too.

According to TripAdvisor, the venue serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has 3.8/5 rating on average, according to the review platform. Many people say it’s worth a visit if you’re looking for a reasonable meal and a few drinks while on holiday.

In the review section, one person wrote: “Had a fantastic breakfast at Ron’s today. Lovely English produce. Great service. Brilliant staff.

“A massive group came in, but they were serviced promptly. Don’t know how they manage with so few staff.”

Another said: “Last day we visited for some lunch before heading to airport. Left full, which is always a good thing. In all my times of going here, never left unhappy at the service nor the food – always really good.”

A third replied: “We went many times during our two-week holiday. The staff are friendly and extremely hard working day and night.

“Cheapest drinks you will find in town and food to suit everyone (daily deal only 6 euros). It’s not a stylish 5* restaurant but then you wouldn’t expect it.

“For drinks just go to the bar like a normal bar. Always busy Sunday and Friday, so expect to book if you want a Sunday lunch. Would we go again? Certainly would!”

British expats seeking relaxing life urged to move to charming EU town

The experts at International Living have included one town on France’s Cote d’Azur on their list of the top eight best European towns for “adventurous expats”.

If you are considering a move to the EU to either save money or escape the city crowds, this little-known spot in France might be your best bet.

International Living has published its Hidden Places Initiative report which reveals eight of Europe’s best towns for adventurous expats, including one on the French Riviera. “Everybody talks about places like Barcelona, Lisbon and Florence. But the best overseas destinations aren’t always the ones you’ve heard of,” says Jennifer Stevens, executive editor at International Living. Enter Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a stunning town located between Nice and Monaco on France’s Cote d’Azur. The town offers expats a quieter perspective on the glitzy French Riviera and International Living calls it “a mash-up of wildly elegant, flower-flowing villas and earthy, burnt-pastel homes stacked haphazardly along the Mediterranean”.

That said, Villefranche-sur-Mer still maintains the iconic Riviera glamour of its neighbours like Nice. In fact, part of the James Bond classic Never Say Never Gain was filmed nearby.

READ MORE: ‘I ditched London to live in underrated UK seaside town just one hour away’

The hilly landscape allows for heightened views of the bay below, while stairs take residents up to the steeper parts of the town, including its historic centre. Describing Villefranche, International Living says: “It’s as if Positano and Florence, Italy, did an 1800s collaboration with a palette of muted orange, yellow, and deep turquoise.”

Two of the biggest draws of the town are its horseshoe-shaped bay and its impressive architecture – including a smattering of pastel-coloured French villas and cafes and medieval alleyways. But those picture-perfect villas and apartment buildings don’t come cheap.

According to International Living: “A couple can expect to spend at least £2,233 a month, with rent starting around £2,527”. Thus, Villefranche is not for every budget, but it is ideal for expats with a love of French art and culture.

As confirmed by International Living “music is a big deal in town, as is art”. Villefranche residents enjoy open-air cinemas throughout the summer and impressive art shows at the town’s Citadel. Other favourite events including classic car races, the Naval Flower Battle, jazz concerts, and open-air plays performed in the historic centre.

If you want to improve your French while living in town, you can also take lessons at the Institut de Français. The school offers courses ranging from two weeks to one month and also organises excursions and homestays.

Given the higher cost of living compared to other European destinations, Villefranche-sur-Mer is best-suited for digital nomads and retirees craving serenity, cultural enrichment and a touch of glam.

American stunned by ‘unique’ British city and says people are ‘a different breed’

A US tourist who visited the UK has shared his thoughts on a popular city in the north and was left shocked by the whole experience, including how ‘chilled’ it was

Dramatic Sky, Sunrise, City Square, Leeds, England
He was amazed by the city(Image: undefined via Getty Images)

An American bloke visiting Leeds couldn’t help but express his surprise at the city, quipping that “people up north are a different breed,” and he’s absolutely smitten with them. But what struck him as so remarkable about the city?TikToker @kjordyyy, self-dubbed “A Meer yank amongst Brits,” shared that he’s currently exploring Leeds.

“And this place has to be one of the most chillest places I’ve ever been to in the UK so far,” he enthused. Kjordy showcased the cityscape, remarking: “You can’t tell me this isn’t peaceful,” noting its serene vibe compared to other bustling metropolises. Then, he touched on the local twang, labelling it one of the most “unique accents” he’s encountered, adding: “It’s definitely northern”.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

Delving deeper into the dialect, he recounted: “I was talking to this guy, his name was Joe, he was like ‘my names J-err,’ like the o’s like err’s. It was interesting to say the least”.

Kjordy observed that “everyone’s just chilling, everyone’s relaxing, minding their own business. Not a care in the world bro”. He contrasted Leeds with London, relishing the laid-back aura of the northern hub.

He lauded the historic buildings and the quaint alleyways he meandered through.

“Kinda random, but I heard someone go up to another guy and say ‘giz a butty’. Apparently that’s local lingo here in Leeds for asking for a sandwich,” he clarified.

And he described the people of Leeds as “so kind,” because he was “up north,” and he even praised “how cheap it is” too, saying that he managed to get a pint of beer for £3.63. “£3 for a pint is insane,” he gushed.

Secret London reports that the average pint in the capital typically costs around £6.50, making Leeds a much more wallet-friendly option for a tipple.

Kjordy expressed his astonishment at finding a meal for just £8, which left him seriously impressed.

Wrapping up his video, Kjordy declared: “All in all, Leeds is a sick city, awesome people, good food and cool architecture. I give it a solid 8/10, and I’ll probably rank it UK’s fourth best city so far”.

In the comments section, one user enthused: “Leeds is an absolutely elite city and gets far too much hate”.

Another chimed in with a slightly different take: “It’s an elite city, good for shopping but there are lots of rude people in Leeds unfortunately which makes it bad vibes”.

Jumping to the city’s defence, someone retorted: “There’s rude people everywhere. Where have you been and there’s no rude people?”

A proud local exclaimed: “My beautiful glorious Leeds, I love you Yorkshire,” showcasing the strong affection residents have for their city.

One woman humorously shared her sense of pride: “The pride I get when I hear someone talking about Leeds, as though I’m the only person that’s ever been born here”.

Sir David Jason had fans all saying the same thing – as he appeared at the British Soap Awards tonight. The legendary actor was on hand to present the Best British Soap award this evening.

The soap awards actually took place on Saturday but they were broadcasted on ITV this evening – and after a delay due to a technical error, the awards got underway. David handed over the Best Soap award to EastEnders, who were the big winners tonight.

As David arrived on stage to present the award, the soap stars were seen in awe – and it was clear viewers felt the same.

One fan wrote: “The legendary Sir David Jason walking out to screams of excitement and admiration was incredible, the atmosphere was truly electric. Couldn’t have wished for a better person to announce the winner,” whilst a second added: “Great to see Sir David Jason on the #BritishSoapAwards tonight. What an absolute legend!!”

“Huge congratulations to EastEnders and how well does Sir David Jason look !! What a legend #britishsoapawards,” a third said, with a fourth adding: “I teared up seeing David Jason.” A fifth wrote: “N’awww a standing ovation for Sir David Jason.”

David previously opened up about how he had to part ways with his helicopter with “extreme reluctance” as he struggled with his physical health. He said: “You need your hips, legs and knees to be in pretty tip-top condition for helicopter flying.

“Also your arms and shoulders. It’s rather like playing a drum kit in that regard, although the consequences of getting out of time during the second verse are quite a bit graver.”

He added: “I realised I was getting increasingly uncomfortable up there in the air. Having to push the physical part of the task was taking some of the joy out of it. Clearly it was time to step away while I was still capable of stepping.”

David also explained how that was such a big part of his life – and it had been his “most satisfying accomplishment”.

“Flying that helicopter was a big part of my life. It was a lot of fun, obviously, but also just the most satisfying accomplishment. Some people have the piano, and some people have oil painting. I had the helicopter and it’s over now, but I’ll always be proud that I can call myself a qualified helicopter pilot,” he explained of his love of flying a helicopter.

Back in 2023, David also opened up about his health as he admitted his concerns over his memory and his physical health.

“My memory isn’t what it used to be … Most of us reach this point when things aren’t quite as bright as they used to be,” he said as he discussed his hip replacement and his general health, “Mind you, I don’t wear a hearing aid, I don’t wear glasses, and I’ve only had to replace one bit of my body, so I’m not doing too bad.”

British cruise guests arrested for skipping onboard bill

Two British cruise guests have been arrested in Ibiza for fleeing without paying their onboard expenses.

They cut and ran, leaving an unpaid bill of £2,685, police said.

They were caught about three hours after leaving the ship at the airport and promptly arrested.

“The couple tried to leave the cruise liner in a hurry with their luggage, declining to pay the cost of expenditure linked to their holiday,” a National Police spokesperson said.

They now face charges of defrauding the cruise line.

Neither the cruise line or the passengers have been named.

They were described as a 23-year old male and a 18-year old female.

Furious ITVX viewers slam channel as service crashes stopping them watching British Soap Awards

ITV viewers have slammed the channel as the service crashed – stopping them watching The British Soap Awards 2025.

Soap fans were tuning into watch the awards ceremony, which was meant to start at 8pm.

We're sorry for the disruption.

But the programme was delayed by seven minutes with just a message from the broadcaster and a black screen.

The message read: “We’re sorry for the disruption.”

Fans were quick to take to social media with their complaints.

One wrote: “What the hell is going on ? Will it ever come on?”

A second said: “Oh dear looks like we got major problems on ITV1.”

A third commented: “Well, I guess I am not watching The Soap Awards on ITVX. What’s going on?”

Despite the delay, the ceremony, which was filmed earlier this week, kicked off with Jane McDonald hosting for a second year.

It comes after Coronation Street were brutally snubbed at the awards as they failed to pick up any of the previously announced awards at this year’s ceremony.

The annual soap event made a return this year after ITV mysteriously axed the contest in 2024.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale humiliated at British Soap Awards as rival soap wins EIGHT gongs

But it was bad news for Coronation Street as the programme suffered a devastating loss after managing to bag just the specially curated Outstanding Achievement Award which went to Roy Cropper star David Neilson.

The show failed to secure wins in any of the main panel or viewer-voted categories amid ITV’s ongoing cash crisis and the mass cast exodus at the soap over the past six months.

Its ITV counterpart Emmerdale also faced a crushing blow ahead of the impending ITV schedule changes which will see 30 minutes worth of each programme cut a week from January 2026.

BBC rival EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year – more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4’s Hollyoaks who got three awards.

EastEnders was awarded Best Soap after its huge live episode and anniversary week which saw Anita Dobson return as Angie Watts and Martin Fowler killed off in the arms of his love, Stacey.

It was certainly not the only award that they picked up with actress Lacey Turner receiving the trophy for Best Leading Performer ahead of her impending exit from the show.

The 40th anniversary also managed to clutch the Scene of the Year thanks to Angie’s shock return.

Steve McFadden a won a trophy for Best Dramatic Performance as Phil Mitchell but did not attend the ceremony with Angela Wynter and Rudolph Walker also receiving prizes as Patrick and Yolande – beating Corrie fan favourites Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, affectionately known as Swarla, to the Best On-Screen Partnership award.

The Walford based soap also collected the Comedy Performance gongs and Villain of the Year.

In a major blow to Coronation Street, only David Neilson picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award as Roy Cropper which was presented to him by by his on-screen wife Julie Hesmondhalgh.

British Soap Awards 2025: Winners List

Here’s who took home trophys at the 2025 British Soap Awards

Best Single Episode – Eastenders: Phil’s Psychosis: The Mitchells In 1985

Best Young Performer – Emmerdale – Amelia Flanagan as April Windsor

Scene Of The Year – Eastenders: Angie Watts’ Shock Return

Best Newcomer – Hollyoaks: Isabelle Smith as Frankie Osborne

Villain Of The Year – Eastenders: Navin Chowdhry as Nish Panesar

Best Family – Hollyoaks: The Osbornes

Best Dramatic Performance – Eastenders: Steve McFadden as Phil
Mitchell

Best On-Screen Partnership – Eastenders: Rudolph Walker & Angela
Wynter as Patrick & Yolande Trueman

Outstanding Achievement Award – Coronation Street: David Neilson

Best Comedy Performance – Eastenders: Patsy Palmer as Bianca Jackson

The Tony Warren Award – Emmerdale: Mike Plant

Best Storyline – Hollyoaks: Sibling Sexual Abuse

Best Leading Performer – Eastenders: Lacey Turner as Stacey Slater

Best British Soap – Eastenders

Hollyoaks managed to win three awards with Isabelle Smith winning as Best Newcomer with The Osbourne family taking home Best Family and the sibling sexual abuse storyline being named Best Storyline.

Emmerdale managed just two awards with Amelia Flanagan beating her Corrie star brother Will to the Best Young Performer prize.

Mike Plant, one of the show’s camera operators, picked up the prestigious off-screen Tony Warren Award accolade for his contributions to the soap behind the scenes.

ITV’s crushing defeats come amid a period of unrest backstage at the shows.

Both Corrie and Emmerdale have lost a number of stars over the past 12 months amid cuts at the channel.

In particular, Coronation Street has faced increasing criticism of its far-fetched storylines and dwindling viewer interest in many of its plots.

British Airways bans cabin crew from taking certain photos on layovers

BA has cited security concerns over potential AI-powered location identification as the main reason for the ban, which follows another set of photo rules for staff that was introduced in 2023

British Airways staff have been banned from posting photos during layovers in popular destinations, it has been reported.

The UK’s flag carrier has implemented strict new social media restrictions aimed at stopping cabin crew from sharing layover snaps from their accommodation in locations such as the Maldives, Cape Town and Singapore.

The airline has not implemented the ban in a bid to ruin all of the fun, but instead to mitigate any potential security risks. BA has cited security concerns over potential AI-powered location identification as the main reason for the ban.

It claims that sophisticated computer software could analyze seemingly innocent background details to identify specific hotel locations and crew accommodation patterns, potentially putting the flight staff in jeopardy.

Now, crew members must delete such photos and videos from their personal accounts, even private ones. Aviation A2Z reports that all British Airways members, including pilots and cabin crew, are affected.

Get Ready With Me videos – in which people film themselves putting on their outfit for the day – filmed in hotel rooms and bathrooms are now banned. Outfit of the Day content showing off BA uniform is also on the scrapheap.

Fun photos taken in hotel pools, at private beaches and in the lobby areas are also now forbidden.

Back in February 2023, BA introduced a raft of new rules that stopped staff from posting videos and pictures while they were “professionally engaged” in their duties. That included workers on security checks, passenger service, and operational activities.

Those rules were designed to clamp down on cabin crew members documenting their lives for TikTok and Instagram followers. A ban on sharing photos of crew sat inside aircraft engines was also brought in.

Staff were unhappy at the time, with the following backlash leading BA to clarify that crew could still share photos in their uniform, so long as they weren’t actively working.

A BA spokesperson said: “The safety of our people is really important to us and as a responsible employer, we’re continuously looking at how we can improve their security.”

British chart-topper axes full comeback album amid fears it would flop

MABEL scrapped an entire album before making her new self-titled mixtape – after being “crippled” by the expectations.

The singer, whose previous album About Last Night came out in 2022, said she felt pressure to live up to her debut, High Expectations.

It won her a Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist.

Mabel said on TikTok: “I did scrap an album.

“I kept waiting for this moment like, ‘Now’s the time to put out an album’, but inevitably you change, you grow, and the music you made last year or the year before, you’ve kind of outgrown it.”

She added: “People expect you to do certain things and get certain accolades again like it’s easy.

“But that has been crippling, mentally and creatively, for me for years.”

My exclusive pictures show Sam on set at the Tyneside Irish Centre, just over the road from St James’ Park, as he filmed the new ad with more than 100 extras.

My source said: “As well as the Adidas ad tying in to Sam’s massive People Watching tour which kicks off in London on Friday, it will be used to launch Newcastle’s new third kit.

“He arrived at 3pm and filmed for five hours with loads of extras. Sam was decked out head to toe in Adidas and played his guitar. He was on top form and everyone who met him said he was absolutely lovely.

“It was a long shoot but everyone who took part got to take home a pair of brand new trainers as a treat.

“Sam is really pleased with how the ad looks and so are the big cheeses at Newcastle United.”

Since his debut album Hypersonic Missiles, which went straight to No1 in 2019, Sam has been on the most incredible rise.

I’ve no doubt the journey is going to get even more exciting for Sam in the years to come.

And now he’s got some lovely new clobber to wear while he’s doing it.

But I imagine they might be more than a little worried about what Nadine has written in the book, called Loud: Diary Of A Derry Girl.

It is due to be released in time for Christmas, with details about it leaking online after Amazon put up a pre-order link early, seemingly by accident.

A description said it will be “an intimate tell-all account” of her life.
It added: “This is her story, a story full of friendships, a lot of laughs,

some bust-ups and just a whole lot of pop.”

It’s also likely to touch on her close friendship with bandmate Sarah Harding, who died from cancer in 2021, so I’m sure it will be an emotional read.

Jack Draper dating history: Who has the British tennis star been in a relationship with?

JACK DRAPER is not only a huge rising star in tennis but also models for fashion magazines including Vogue.

But who is the Tennis-playing supermodel dating? Here’s everything you need to know about British No 1 – who has reached the semi-final of the US Open.

Who is Jack Draper?

Jack was born on 22 December 2001, in Sutton, Surrey.

He is a star both on and off the court, as he has been ranked as high as No.25 in singles – although he will likely climb the rankings after his heroics at the US Open.

Although he is yet to win a Grand Slam, tennis is something that runs in his family.

His brother, Ben, is a former pro and his mum, Nicky, is a junior champion turned coach.

His father was even the chief executive of the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), which is the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

Jack is known for his unusual way of playing tennis.

He plays left-handed despite the fact that he is naturally right-handed.

This unique style allows him to play a backhand like a second forehand.

Who has Jack modelled for?

Jack is signed to IMG Models, an agency that has also signed Gisele Bündchen and Heidi Klum.

In 2024, the 6ft 4in star was featured in Vogue wearing some big labels, from Loewe to Louis Vuitton.

He has even attracted the attention of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who sat in his box to watch his decisive victory over Tomáš  Macháč.

Who has Jack Draper dated?

The tennis star and Vogue model is notoriously private about his love life and has said that he spends a lot of time on the court.

Even when Zendaya, the star of Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 tennis film Challengers, attended one of Jack’s matches he didn’t notice.

Although they haven’t said that they are dating, Jack is close friends with Emma RaducanuCredit: Getty Images

He told Tatler:  “I’m not that great with celebrities.

“We were at the US Open last year and everyone was making a big fuss over this girl who walked in and I had no idea who she was. I think she was called Zendaya?”

When asked about whether the film’s raunchy take on tennis is accurate, he said: “I wouldn’t know much about that.

“Right now I’m giving myself the best chance to progress and beat the best players in the world.”

Jack is known to be close with British tennis superstar Emma Raducanu.

In a fashion shoot with Vogue, he described Emma as “a real special talent”.

However, there isn’t much to suggest that the close pals are anything more than friends.

EastEnders’ Diane Parish teases fans British Soap Awards behind-the-scenes snaps

EastEnders icon Diane Parish took to social media over the weekend to share a fun-fuelled video of highlights from the 2025 British Soap Awards – which did not give away any of the winners

Diane Parish was in a celebratory mood on Saturday night as she joined her EastEnders castmates and headed to Hackney for the British Soap Awards 2025. The 55-year-old soap icon, famous for playing Denise Fox on the BBC show since 2006, had been on the long list for one of the show categories.

The star had been initially nominated for the Best Leading Performer gong, but did not advance to the second round of nominations for the prestigious award. Instead, EastEnders co-stars Lacey Turner and Kellie Bright were nominated for the gong alongside Emmerdale stars Beth Cordingly and Eden Taylor-Draper.

Stars from Hollyoaks and Coronation Street were also at the glitzy awards show on Saturday night, which was hosted by singing sensation and cruise ship enthusiast Jane McDonald. The full list of winners was announced on Saturday night, but some fans are waiting to find out who took home which prize when highlights from the ceremony are broadcast on ITV on Thursday night.

With this in mind, Diane took to social media on Sunday to share her own highlights from the night, which did not give anything away. She shared a two-and-a-half-minute-long video from the celebrations, which included footage of her partying with fellow soap stars before, during and after the event.

Uploading the footage to her main grid, Diane wrote: “NO SPOILERS for those who don’t wanna know. But I am sooooo PROUD of everyone who works on @bbceastenders What a night!”

Clips showed her laughing and chatting with co-stars, encouraging members of the public in the live audience to cheer, spotlighting Anita Dobson in the crowd, and partying at the after party. Soap stars were thrown into a panic at the party, however, as the after-show venue was hit by a bomb hoax.

The event was held at London’s Hackney Town Hall after the main awards. But attendees were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat.

“We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately,” a source told The Mirror – recounting the nerves shredding experience.

She was seen posing with her co-stars

“As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren’t allowed back in the building so people started making their way home.”

In a video shared with The Mirror, some of TV’s biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate – with the likes of EastEnders’ Tameka Empson and former Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan among them.

A show source also told The Mirror: “Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely.”

Meanwhile, fans of soaps took to social media to slam ITV for failing to broadcast the event live – with many annoyed that they would have to wait until Thursday before being able to see who would take to the stage.

Taking to X to slam the delay in broadcast, one fan raged: “It’s ridiculous that the British Soap Awards isn’t live… there’s more hype for the soap stars arriving outside for something not even airing on tv for another week than there is the Britain’s Got Talent final… sort it out for next year please @itv.”

The British Soap Awards 2025 will be broadcast via ITV1 and ITVX on Thursday 5 June 2025 at 8pm.

EastEnders were the big winners at tonight’s British Soap Awards, taking away the top gong. Named Best British Soap, they beat Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks to the coveted accolade.

Walking away with eight awards in total, Steve McFadden picked up Best Dramatic Performance and Best Single Episode for Phil Mitchell’s psychosis. It comes in the soap’s 40th anniversary year.

Hollyoaks got three awards, Emmerdale got two and Coronation Street walked away with one – the Outstanding Achievement Award to David Neilson, who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years. The biggest names in soapland dazzled on the glitter carpet – with Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter and Corrie favourite Tina O’Brien both looking sensational in the same dress, a sparkly Oh Polly number.

Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale, added: “It was just brilliant, although none of us knew that she was coming back! We’ll need Ange back if anything ever happened to Kathy, not that I want it too.”

Hosted by Jane McDonald, telly favourites Sir David Jason and Larry Lamb presented awards at London’s Hackney Empire.

Former British soldier in court to face Liverpool car-ramming charges

Emergency services at the scene of Monday’s car-ramming incident in Liverpool city center that left 79 people injured, seven of whom remain in hospital. File photo by Adam Vaughan/EPA-EFE

May 30 (UPI) — The man charged with ramming a vehicle into a crowd at a cup victory parade for Liverpool Football Club and injuring 79 peopel appeared in court on Friday.

Prosecutor Philip Astbury said it was the prosecution’s case that 53-year-old Paul Doyle, a former Royal Marine and now a businessman, “deliberately drove” into the crowd in Liverpool city center as people were leaving at the end of the parade.

Astbury asked that Doyle, who is from the West Derby area of Liverpool, not be granted bail for his own safety.

Doyle faces seven counts related to Monday’s incident involving six victims, two of them children, including two wounding with intent charges, two grievous bodily harm with intent charges, two attempted grievous bodily harm with intent charges and a single dangerous driving charge.

Doyle spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth and did not enter a plea.

District Judge Paul Healey remanded the married father of three in custody, telling him that his case was being sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where he would have to reappear later Friday.

Counsel for Doyle, Richard Derby, did not apply for bail.

Doyle has been in police detention since being arrested after a car collided with Liverpool city center, where hundreds of thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory, but was only charged on Thursday afternoon.

Seven of those injured remain in area hospitals.

Merseyside Police said the incident remained the subject of an ongoing, active investigation with officers sifting through a large volume of digital evidence, while the Crown Prosecution Service said it was keeping the charges “under review” as the investigation progressed.

However, Mersey-Cheshire Chief Crown Prosecutor Sarah Hammond appealed for the public and media to refrain from speculation or sharing information that could derail the prosecution’s case or fair justice for the accused.

“We know Monday’s shocking scenes reverberated around the city of Liverpool, and the entire country, on what should have been a day of celebration for hundreds of thousands of Liverpool FC supporters. Our thoughts remain with all those affected,” Hammond said.

“Criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and he has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information or media online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

Doyle’s social media states that he served for four years as a commando in the Royal Marine Corps, an amphibious special operations unit of the Royal Navy, between 1990 and 1994.

British man detained after driving into Liverpool soccer celebrants

Police and emergency crews tend the scene where a car collided with and injured several Liverpool (U.K.) Football Club fans during a trophy parade in Liverpool’s city center on Monday evening. Photo by Adam Vaughan/EPA-EFE

May 26 (UPI) — A British man was arrested after a vehicle drove into and injured several soccer fans celebrating during the Liverpool Football Club’s victory parade on Monday evening.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. local time on Water Street in Liverpool’s city center, where soccer fans had gathered for a parade celebrating the local football club’s Premier League title win, the Daily Mail reported.

“We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city center,” Merseyside Police said in a prepared statement as reported by the BBC.

“The car stopped at the scene, and a male has been detained,” the statement said. “Emergency services are currently on the scene.”

No fatalities have been reported, but an unknown number of people were injured.

Merseyside Police said a 53-year-old White British man from the Liverpool area was arrested, but they don’t know if he drove the vehicle.

Local police have asked that people not speculate on the collision’s cause.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision,” a Merseyside Police spokesperson said.

“We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us.”

Liverpool FC officials are in direct contact with local police regarding the event that happened near the end of the trophy parade, a club spokesperson said in a prepared statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,” the spokesperson said.

“We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is being updated on developments and asked that people give police the space needed to investigate the matter, he said in a post on X.

“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling,” Starmer said, “My thoughts are with all those injured or affected.

“I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.”

Merseyside Police have scheduled an update on the incident at 10:30 BST.

Before the parade incident that injured several people, another 17 were injured during incidents involving flares ahead of the title celebrations, the BBC reported.

The Liverpool FC secured the Premier League Trophy with a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Local police expected hundreds of thousands to celebrate the title during the official trophy parade on Monday evening.
