Love Island chaos erupts as stunning female footballer ‘joins as late bombshell’

Footballer and model Catarina Pita is reportedly set to enter Love Island as a late bombshell – as tensions continue to explode in the villa following Movie Night

Professional footballer and part-time model Catarina Pita could soon be swapping boots for bikinis as she’s reportedly lined up to join Love Island as a late bombshell – just as the villa falls into even more emotional chaos.

The Portuguese defender, who currently plays for Atlético London, has built an impressive career in women’s football, previously playing for clubs including West Ham United, QPR, Millwall Lionesses, and Porto FC. But now, show insiders say she’s on Love Island producers’ radar to make a dramatic entrance during the latter half of this season.

“Cat has been busy in pre-season training but is on ITV2’s list as a late bombshell. As always, the cast are pulled into suit storylines to create maximum drama. Bosses loved the idea of having a female footballer on the show during the Women’s Euros,” a source told The Sun.

With the villa still in shambles following the explosive Movie Night, the timing for a fresh arrival in the form of brunette bombshell Cat couldn’t be more perfect, as her entrance into the villa could turn heads and cause even more drama for the girls.

On Friday’s episode, the annual Movie Night twist caused chaos as Islanders were shown clips of secret moments from Casa Amor and the unexpected ‘Sleepover’.

Meg and Dejon’s relationship, once seen as one of the villa’s most stable, is now hanging by a thread after damning footage exposed Dejon’s flirty behaviour with both Andrada, Malisha, and Caprice.

Meg, clearly stunned by what she saw, said: “F***ing hell, any more flirting?” Her anger grew as Dejon tried to defend himself, while Andrada, pulled into the confrontation, stood her ground. “I’m going to stand my ground,” she said firmly after the explosive clips were shown.

Later, Meg took Dejon aside to speak in private, accusing him of humiliating her. “I feel violated in front of all of the girls,” she said, holding back tears. Dejon, who looked visibly flustered after the drama, then admitted to feeling lost as he said: “I didn’t know if I was truly being honest, with Meg or myself.”

Naturally, social media lit up with opinions as some viewers empathised with Meg, while others questioned her reaction and insisted that she was being far too possessive over Dejon.

“Meg was WAY too calm for what she just saw. If I were her? Explosions. Nuclear. #LoveIsland,” wrote one viewer on X.

Another posted: “Dejon fumbled Meg for a Casa flirt and a laugh? Make it make sense.” Others pointed out the misdirected blame. “I actually think Meg was more mad at Andrada than Dejon?? Redirect that anger, babe.”

With the next recoupling on the horizon, Catarina’s rumoured arrival might be just the spark producers need to throw the villa into even deeper drama and chaos.

Maura Higgins makes Love Island return as she’s branded ‘ultimate bombshell’

Maura Higgins has made a surprising return to the Love Island US villa this week as she was dubbed the ‘ultimate bombshell’, admitting it ‘feels good to be back’.

Maura Higgins has said it ‘feels good to be back’ as she has re-entered the Love Island villa, but not quite in the way you’d think. The TV personality, 34, has headed across the pond to host the US version of the reality show’s spin-off, Love Island: Aftersun, once again – after conflicting schedules meant she had to bow out of the show.

The star, who rose to fame on the UK version of Love Island in 2019, made a surprise appearance at the Fiji villa this week, despite it being reported that she wouldn’t return.

Maura was hosting Aftersun earlier this year as Season 7 of the Peacock show kicked off, but mysteriously vanished from the screen as she left to film for The Traitors US. At the time, it was reported that she wouldn’t be coming back this season, with Sophie Monk – who hosts Love Island Australia – stepping in to take her place.

Delivering all of the gossip from the villa and the show’s dumped islanders, Love Island legend Maura is following in the footsteps of Maya Jama, who fronts the UK main show and spin-off.

Upon her return, Maura was described as the ‘ultimate bombshell’ by host Ian Stirling, who said, “Tonight, the ultimate bombshell returns, it’s Maura Higgins, and she’s brought some All Star friends with her.”

“So happy to be back,” wrote Maura on Instagram as she arrived back to the show just 24 hours before the series’ finale, which airs this evening (Sunday 13 July).

Seemingly on a mission to crack America, Maura’s appearance on The Traitors is set to be released later this year, and comes after fellow Love Islander Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu took part in the reality show.

While filming the show, Maura rubbed She will rub shoulders with Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce’s mum Donna as well as Big Brother stars Ian Terry and Tiffany Mitchell.

Survivor’s Rob Cesternino and Yam Yam Arocho have also been named to take part alongside The Amazing Race winner Natalie Anderson.

The Bachelor’s Colton Underwood, Dancing with the Stars pro Mark Ballas, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Monét X Change, figure skater Johnny Weir and singer Eric Nam are all on the list.

Maura has been spending an increased amount of time stateside after hitting headlines earlier this year at an afterparty for the BRIT Awards, where she was filmed kissing married McFly singer Danny Jones.

The ordeal came following Maura’s split from former TOWIE star Pete Wicks, and saw Danny go on to issue a grovelling apology to his wife, Georgia Horsley, and son, Cooper, seven. Maura is yet to speak out on the scandal.

Love Island fans do not have long left to wait as Casa Amor has been confirmed

Casa Amor is returning sooner than you think(Image: ITV)

The wait is almost over for Love Island fans, as the notorious Casa Amor has been confirmed to make a comeback, and it’s sooner than you think.

Ever since this season of the beloved reality dating show kicked off, viewers have been hit with an onslaught of brutal new twists – from unexpected dumpings to plenty of bombshells that are stirring serious drama.

Recent episodes brought in the Sleepover Villa, earlier dubbed a “mini casa”, ramping up the pressure and love triangles brewing on screen. But now, Casa Amor is returning very soon with a jaw dropping twist.

In a teaser revealed at the end of Friday’s (July 4) episode, expectant fans learned that Casa Amor’s grand return is set for Sunday, (July 6), as the preview showed before rolling credits sparked excitement.

The sneak peek dropped a bombshell as six glamorous girls made their entrance into the villa, taking their positions on the terrace, while presenter Iain confirmed Casa Amor’s return, reports OK!.

Meg was the one to break the news as she read out the girls’ names – Yaz, Lauren, Andrada, Lucy, Rheo and Emma.

A shell-shocked Harry was caught uttering “that’s my ex”, causing everyone to look up at the six newcomers, and leaving Harry’s partner Helena looking gobsmacked.

Casa Amor, hailed as the greatest challenge for the islanders, sees them separated from their partners, coming face to face with tempting new singles. After an exhilarating week, the islanders will be forced to decide – will they choose to recouple or remain loyal?

Helena
Helena was left gobsmacked in latest preview clips

As per Casa Amor drama, fans are on tenterhooks to see who will stick and who will switch. Rumours have already started with Casa Amor additions, with whispers suggesting early exits Poppy and Caprice might return.

If islanders choose to stay loyal, a joyful reunion awaits. However, if one opts for a new partner, they return to the villa while their prior mate is left single.

The episode on July 4 had emotions escalating as Shakira confronted Harry about his feelings for Helena post-Superman challenge gossip from Meg, who suggested Harry’s words weren’t matching his actions.

Shakira pressed him: “You said you’ve fully ended it with Helena, [and that] there’s nothing there with her. Then all of a sudden Meg stands up, who’s Helena’s best friend, and says that you’re telling two different girls two different things. Something’s not adding up there.”

Nonetheless, Harry insisted on his sincerity, even though later footage saw him heading to the hideaway with Helena.

In a twist that left viewers gobsmacked, an unexpected new couple emerged during the latest recoupling. As the girls lined up at the Firepit, one lad stepped forward, choosing his partner with the words: “I don’t really know her as well as I should and I think this is a good opportunity to get to know her fully… I find her attractive and over the last few days she’s really changed my opinion of her.”

Love Island fans baffled as ITV show ‘cut short’ in the midst of bombshell drama

The Love Island villa was graced with the arrival of two more bombshells tonight, as Billykiss and Ryan wasted no time in taking some of the Islanders on a date

Dejon
Love Island fans fume as latest episode cut short(Image: ITV)

The Love Island villa was rocked with even more drama tonight, as bombshells Billykiss and Ryan made their shock entrance into the villa. However, fans were left baffled when tonight’s episode was seemingly cut short just as the drama started to heat up.

The new arrivals wasted no time in getting to know their fellow Islanders, as they headed out on dates straight away. Ryan chose Shakira and Toni to take out on a date, while Billykiss decided to date both Dejon and Conor.

After the dates, Billykiss and Ryan entered the regular villa where they met the rest of the Islanders. Billykiss gathered around the fire pit with the girls while Ryan updated the boys on his dates with Shakira and Toni. However, fans didn’t see much after that, as the show finished 7 minutes earlier than scheduled.

Billykiss
New bombshell Billykiss seems to have caught Dejon’s eye(Image: ITV)

The ITV2 schedule said the episode would be running until 10.05 – but fans’ trip to the villa ended at 9.58 – just as Meg was heard worrying about Dejon’s attraction towards the new bombshell.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan said: “THERES ANOTHER 7 MINUTES LEFT.” A second penned: “No tomorrow night and finishes 6 mins early!”

A third confused fan penned: “Weird part to end it on it ended a few minutes early.”

It seems Dejon is popular amongst the new bombshells, having been chosen for several dates. However, this didn’t go down well with Meg, who was visibly fed up with the number of tests she and Dejon were having to undergo.

Toni and Ryan

As Billykiss walked through the main villa, Dejon gushed over her figure with the other guys, as a worried Meg said she thinks the new bombshell would be the one to turn heads. However, fans were left fuming when the episode came to an end on the abrupt cliffhanger.

Fans weren’t shown a snippet of tomorrow night either, which has been a reoccurring theme in this series. Although there have been some episodes where they’re shown snippets of the next day – most of the time they wait for the first look the following afternoon to see what’s in store.

Elsewhere, sparks could be flying for Shakira and Ryan as she informed him that she had broken things off with Harry before the date. It came after she became aware of Harry and Helena’s X-rated comments towards each other during last night’s heart rate challenge.

It came at a sensitive time for Shakira, just one day after Harry chose to snog his ex, Helena, in the Snog, Marry, Pie challenge. Enough was enough for Shakira, as earlier in the episode, she was completely over their relationship as she couldn’t be bothered to be involved in the love triangle.

Sam Thompson says ‘we faked it’ over family name bombshell on DNA Journey

The Made in Chelsea star discovered the truth about his real name in the latest episode of ITV’s DNA Journey, which saw him team up with pal Marvin Humes

Sam Thompson has been left gobsmacked after a family history exploration on ITV’s ‘DNA Journey’ presented him with a surprising revelation about his name, only to discover it wasn’t quite true.

Joining Marvin Humes on the popular ancestry show ‘DNA Journey’, the presenter and reality TV favourite set out to trace his lineage, uncovering some unexpected tales along the way.

Starting off in sunny Jamaica, Marvin uncovered moving stories about his ancestors’ migration to Britain, while he was stunned to learn that his mate Sam had no clue about his own family’s past.

Feeling rather sheepish, the ex-‘Made In Chelsea’ star confessed: “I really don’t know why I haven’t asked,” as he mused over the potential awkwardness brought by the show’s posh image. “When you grow up with – I was on a show called Made in Chelsea, it’s the posh thing. You almost don’t want to know because you almost feel a bit bad.”

He also revealed that Thompson isn’t his full surname. The family name is actually De Courcy Thompson and the former Made in Chelsea star explained the decision to drop part of it, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Sam, 32, candidly expressed his views on having a hard-to-spell name and feeling pretentious, cheekily remarking: “We have a signet ring!”.

Upon uncovering family history, Marvin flipped the script, cautioning Sam with a mixture of jest and solemnity: “It can’t be as nice and fluffy and unicorns and rainbows as it’s been in Jamaica, and I’m sorry to say it, but it’s looking like it’s going to be you.”

Alarm flickered across Sam’s face when learning about his ancestor Charles Thompson’s stint in Jamaica in 1815, while Marvin played up the tension, saying: “This is going to get deep.”

As historical connections were drawn, Sam anxiously responded: “That doesn’t sound good. That sounds really bad.”

But, to Sam’s delight, the true legacy of Charles Thompson unfolded; he was not what Sam feared but rather a notable figure in defeating Napoleon at Waterloo. An elated Sam exclaimed: “Oh my god, I’m so happy! Oh, you really scared me! You were all thinking it…”

The revelation continued that it was Charles’ son Lesley who crafted the De Courcy surname for his own son Sydney, giving the family a veneer of distinction.

Sam laughed as he said: “We faked it and I’m over the moon. I’ve got a signet ring and it doesn’t mean anything. We just gave it to ourselves. It’s like those people who buy a knighthood just to call themselves sir or lady. That’s us!”

Sam Thompson’s family bombshell as he finds out ‘posh’ background is totally fake

In the final episode of ITV’s DNA Journey, best friends Marvin Humes and Sam Thompson make some revealing discoveries…

Sam Thompson and Marvin Humes on ITV's DNA Journey

Marvin Humes discovers his ancestor had a secret second family while his best mate Sam Thompson finds out that his ‘posh’ background is completely fake, in a revelatory episode of DNA Journey.

Close friends since meeting in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! two years ago, the loveable pair of presenters are shocked by the discoveries on the ITV hit ancestry show, airing on Thursday. They begin in Jamaica, where Marvin also finds out that he owes his life to a strong woman who made a massive sacrifice. Marvin says: “I’ve got a rich heritage of culture from Jamaica in my family. My grandparents were both born here. My Grandma Ruby and Grandpa Randall moved to the UK when they had just got married. We would eat fish and dumplings and Saturday soup.”

In Jamaica, Marvin finds out that his Great Grandma Blanche was not actually married to his Great Grandfather David James. They had four children, but immediately after the fourth, Marvin’s Grandma Ruby, was born in 1930, David James left. Historian Diane tells Marvin: “A soon as Ruby was born, David James left for a family he had concurrently along with Blanche.” Marvin says: “I know that on my Grandfather Randall’s side, his father did the same thing. His mum ended up in a mental hospital in Jamaica, called Bellevue, where she died.”

Marvin and Sam begin their journey in Jamaica

Blanche, however, was not broken. She went into domestic service and worked hard, then stood at the pier at Kingston Harbour in 1958 and waved off Ruby and her husband Randall so they could find a new life in the UK as part of the Windrush generation. Ruby and Randall couldn’t afford the fare for their three children, so Blanche stepped up to care for them, and went back to work to save up the money to send them to Britain. She knew when she waved goodbye to her daughter in 1958, as she set sail to join Randall who left first, that she’d never see her again.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Marvin says: “I can only think of myself as a parent, it’s heartbreaking to think she’d never see her again. Without this happening in 1958, I wouldn’t be standing here today. She’s the reason. All my family back home in England, we all owe everything to her, for that sacrifice she made on this pier.”

Meanwhile, Sam flies into a panic when he is told he has an ancestor who spent time in Jamaica. “It doesn’t sounds good, don’t say it..” he says. However, he is relieved to learn there is no slavery connection. Charles Thompson, his four times Great Grandfather, a Lieutenant Colonel, was posted in Jamaica before being called to Europe where he played a vital role in the downfall of Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo. “Oh my God, I’m so happy, you really scared me, we were all thinking it,” says Sam.

Marvin and Sam have been best mates since meeting on I'm A Celebrity

Sam is told that Charles, who was in the 27th (Inniskilling) Foot Regiment, an Irish regiment in the British Army, also took a collection from his regiment of soldiers, donating the equivalent of £5,000 to help starving people. “He was a philanthropist, I’m so proud,” says Sam. “He was a total hero.” Sam also discovers a cousin match in Limavady, Northern Ireland, who happens to live in a massive stately home. “This is mental,” says Marvin. “I feel like we’ve turned up at Buckingham Palace, the Irish version.”

Sam’s long lost cousin, Connolly Patrick McCausland, explains their common ancestor was land agent Robert McCausland, who owned the stately home and also once owned 110 acres of Woolwich, London, where Marvin grew up. “We’re so connected!” says the Made In Chelsea star, adding: “If I ever get married, I’m getting married here.”

Meanwhile, with a castle up the road in Northern Ireland built by a John De Courcy, Sam is wondering if this is also his ancestor – since his surname is actually De Courcy Thompson. Sam explains: “I dropped ‘De Courcy’. One, hard to spell. And two, you sound like a bit of a douche.” But it turns out that Sam is not remotely connected to the famous John De Courcy.

Charles’s son Lesley made up the name De Courcy, giving it to his third son Sydney to improve their social standing. Sam laughs: “We faked it and I’m over the moon. I’ve got a signet ring and it doesn’t mean anything. We just gave it to ourselves. It’s like those people who buy a knighthood just to call themselves sir or lady. That’s us!”

*DNA Journey concludes on Thursday 26 June, ITV at 9pm.

Emmerdale’s Robert ‘works out’ John’s dark secret in identity bombshell

Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden will tell his sister Victoria that their mystery brother John Sugden is ‘dangerous’, questioning what they even know about the character

John Sugden’s days on Emmerdale could be numbered, as Robert Sugden has him figured out it seems.

According to a new preview for Wednesday’s episode that has been shared with The Mirror, Robert is onto the secret killer and is very aware he’s harbouring something dark. Not only that, but he believes he’s not the man everyone thinks he is, and is determined to prove who he actually is, and what he’s done.

Questioning John’s identity and his past, Robert will do what it takes to make sure he’s exposed. No one in the village has yet to rumble that John killed Nate Robinson, and that he has been behind a number of incidents where villagers have faced harm.

His obsession with husband Aaron Dingle, Robert’s ex, has also sparked concern with viewers but no one in the village has realised. Robert took a matter of seconds to have John sussed though, while it seems people think he’s just bitter about Aaron choosing him.

On Tuesday night we saw John and Robert in a tense stand-off, leading to Robert exposing his recent kiss with Aaron. John had thought he had the upper hand, but the mention of the kiss left him spiralling in front of his brother.

READ MORE: Emmerdale Robert Sugden’s tragic death ‘foreshadowed’ after sinister John scene

John turned to Robert with a sinister look on his face, and told him to “be careful” making it obvious he planned to hurt him. Telling him he wanted to “smash his face in” and he needed “protection” outside of prison, he warned: “You have no idea what I am capable of.”

Robert initially laughed and made it abundantly clear he wasn’t scared. But it was clear Robert saw in John what only viewers and few others have seen.

So much so that after he told John he was going to expose him, Wednesday’s episode sees him bringing the incident up with their sister Victoria Sugden. He tells his sister about the threat and that there was a look in his eye that scared him, and now he’s worried for his loved ones.

Now the character is keen to find out exactly who John is, keen to know his identity and his past, urging Victoria to remember the fact she knows very little about him. The clip finished before Victoria says anything but it is clear she is a little alarmed so will she believe Robert?

Robert says: “Something’s not right about him. I’m only looking out for you and Aaron.” as Victoria backs John, Robert says: “Are you really that gullible? I bet Johnny boy didn’t tell you he warned me off.

“He threatened me. You should have heard him. Being in here I’ve met a lot of people with that look in their eye. Half the crazies in this building have got it.”

As Victoria downplays it and says he “isn’t crazy”, Robert says back: “He’s dangerous Vic. He said to me you have no idea what I’m capable of and I think I do, and it scared me.

“You say he’s great for Aaron but do you even know him? Do you know anything about him?” Robert seems panicked when he asks this this, with him sure something is off about John.

He might not be the only one though as Victoria seems to really think about what Robert is saying to her. So might she finally ask questions and expose the real John?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .

LOVE Island fans reckon they have the first Casa Amor bombshell sussed after an explosive two days on the 2025 series.

Their suspicions flooded in shortly after ITV2 viewers threatened to call Ofcom after Shakira Khan, 22, was left single – when American bombshell Toni, 24, chose her man Ben, 23, to couple up with.

And influencer Sophie Lee’s shock departure, which was aired on Tuesday’s episode, has stirred the pot further.

Manchester model Shakira picked Harry Cooksley, 30, during the most recent re-coupling ceremony – meaning Sophie Lee, 29, was dumped from the island immediately.

Now eagle-eyed Love Island regulars are convinced the TV star, who was left scarred for life following a terrifying accident, will be back.

She also added fuel to the fire as she admitted “summer isn’t over,” during her exit interview.

Now fans think a spot in the Love Island spin-off villa would be a perfect comeback, and one wrote on Instagram: “Get her back for Casa cos she came across so sweet definitely was hoping Alima was gunna go.”

A second put: “Get her back on!!!! we loved her!!!”

A third noted: “Bring her back in Casa Amor! She deserves another chance,” as a fourth put: “Get her back in for Casa!! She seems so genuine.”

One then added: “BRING SOPH BACK!”

Love Island bosses have form for calling back former show stars for the second villa.

Back in 2023, Molly Marsh made her return after originally being dumped from the villa.

Giovanni Pernice’s ex ‘set for Love Island stint’ as ITV prepare for bombshell series

Giovanni Pernice’s ex girlfriend has been eyed up to become one of this years islanders, in the ‘most dramatic series yet’, after dating the former Strictly dancer last year

Giovanni Pernice‘s ex girlfriend, Molly Brown, has reportedly been eyed up for a summer of love in the Love Island villa to find a new romance. The 26 year old, who dated the Strictly star for several months last year, has reportedly been approached by ITV producers.

Molly and Giovanni began dating at the beginning of 2024 but split after a few weeks before rekindling their relationship until July. The couple were together while allegations were being made by Amanda Abbington against Giovanni regarding his actions on Strictly.

The allegations reportedly grew too much for the couple, and they went their separate ways. A source claimed that Molly could ‘spill the beans’ on her previous relationship.

They teased: “TV execs love a famous ex and the chance for Molly to spill the beans on the biggest scandal for their rival channel the BBC was very tempting.”

The source added to The Sun: “She could feature later in the series if show action allows, but ITV do speak to hundreds of singles every year to ensure there’s a wide cast ready for every storyline.”

Former Strictly star Giovanni is now in a relationship with actress Bianca Guaccero. The new couple first crossed paths during the Italian version of Strictly, and their relationship grew from there. They appear to be loved up in recent snaps shared to their social media from a romantic holiday in Barbados.

The reports follow this year’s summer series of Love Island being dubbed the most dramatic series yet. The 12th series of the reality show is set to premiere on June 9 on ITV2, promising to bring more drama and twists. Returning as host, Maya Jama has hinted at unprecedented twists and explosive moments that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats

Mike Spencer-Hayter, also known as Love Island’s boss, has already teased that week one will hold never-seen-before twists, as well as revealing that they have a whole two weeks planned out, which isn’t a usual occurrence. He has also hinted that the huge twist could be related to this years bombshells.

He sparked speculation that the bombshell could be international as he told The Sun: “Something big is coming in week one. We’ve got a really big week one planned. It’s hard to say what we’re doing without saying it. It’s not a celebrity. We’ve not seen it before.”

He added: “There will be things happening for the first couple of days we’ve not done before and certainly in week one. During that week, there’s something incredibly big we’ve never done before. Hopefully, we can do it. It’s quite experimental.”

The boss also admitted to breaking the rules of tradition by planning further ahead. He said: “We’ve mapped out two weeks, which we don’t usually do, to be honest. So we’ve got two weeks planned and one very, very big thing that’s never been done ever on Love Island. Globally.”

Man caged for beating florist to death in 1986 is CLEARED thanks to DNA bombshell in UK’s longest miscarriage of justice

A MAN accused of beating a florist to death has been cleared in the UK’s longest-ever miscarriage of justice.

Peter Sullivan was jailed for life with a minimum of 16 years in 1987 for the murder of 21-year-old Diane Sindall in Bebington, Merseyside.

He was jailed for murdering Diane

The loner, who was 29 at the time, has spent the past 38 years maintaining his innocent and is now appealing his conviction for a third time.

It comes after new tests ordered by the Criminal Cases Review Commission revealed his DNA was not present on samples preserved at the time.

His lawyers said that if his conviction is quashed, he would be the longest-serving victim of a miscarriage of justice in the UK.

The Crown Prosecution Service today told the Court of Appeal the new evidence is enough to cast “sufficient” doubt on the conviction.

It also agreed the fresh clue was “reliable” and that the CPS “does not seek to argue that this evidence is not capable of undermining the safety of Mr Sullivan’s conviction”.

Duncan Atkinson KC, for the CPS, said: “The respondent considers that there is no credible basis on which the appeal can be opposed, solely by reference to the DNA evidence.

“On the contrary, the DNA evidence provides a clear and uncontroverted basis to suggest that another person was responsible for both the sexual assault and the murder.

“As such, it positively undermines the circumstantial case against Mr Sullivan as identified at the time both of his trial and his 2021 appeal.”

Diane had just left her shift as a part-time barmaid at a pub in Bebington when her small blue van ran out of petrol.

She was making her way to a garage when she was beaten to death and sexually assaulted in a “frenzied” attack.

Her body was discovered partially clothed close to a grass verge.

Sullivan, who is watching the appeal from HMP Wakefield, was said to have spent the day of the murder drinking heavily.

Following his arrest in September 1986, he was quizzed 22 times and denied legal advice in the first seven interviews – despite requesting it.

Sullivan later “confessed to the murder” in an unrecorded interview a day after his arrest.

He then made a formal confession but the court was told this was “inconsistent with the facts established by the investigation“.

It also went against his earlier interviews, with Sullivan retracting the admission later that day.

Since his conviction, questions have been raised about whether he had proper legal representation during his interviews.

Evidence related to bite marks on Diane’s body has also been called into question.

At the time of the case, DNA technology was not available and subsequent requests for new tests were refused.

Sullivan first went to the CCRC for help in 2008 but they did not refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal.

He then launched his own appeal bid in 2019, which judges dismissed after ruling the bite mark evidence was not central to the prosecution at trial.

In 2021, Sullivan went back to the CCRC and raised concerns over police interviews, the bite mark evidence and the murder weapon.

The independent body revealed Sullivan’s DNA was not present on samples preserved at the time.

This led Merseyside Police to confirm they were “carrying out an extensive investigation in a bid to identify who the new DNA profile belongs to”.

The force revealed they had no matches on the police database but were contacting people previously identified in the original probe to request new samples.

Sullivan’s barrister Jason Pitter KC today told the court that Diane’s murder was “a grotesque offence”.

But he argued that the evidence could not now pass “the threshold with which a prosecution could take place”.

While he accepted that improvements in science and the “passage of time” had “significantly assisted” Sullivan’s position, the new DNA evidence showed the killer “was not the defendant”.

He also explained the bite mark evidence, which the prosecution claimed matched Sullivan, was no longer viewed as reliable evidence of identification in criminal cases.

Mr Pitter told the court “significant admissions” and “incriminating statements” made by Sullivan at the time of the killing were “inherently unreliable” due to his “vulnerability”.

He added: “The appellant was extremely vulnerable in an interrogative situation, because of his limited intellectual functioning, combined with his problems with self-expression, his disposition to acquiesce, to yield, to be influenced, manipulated and controlled and his internal pressure to speak without reflection and his tendency to engage in make-believe to an extreme extent.

“What he was saying was nonsense, in plain terms.”

What is the Liver King doing now? Brian Johnson’s life today after bombshell admission

Brian Johnson, also known as the Liver King, was a huge star on social media

A TikToker who goes by the moniker Liver King faced intense backlash after he confessed to steroid use, despite having promoted a physique he claimed was achievable through an ‘ancestral’ way of living that included consuming testicles.

He amassed millions of fans by showing off his raw meat-based diet, extreme fitness regime, and adherence to traditional gender roles, while marketing his range of supplements and advocating for nine fundamental life pillars: sleep, eat, move, shield, connect, cold, sun, fight, and bond.

Johnson, who repeatedly denied he had used steroids, was forced to issue a public apology following the leak of an email revealing his $11,000 monthly spend on performance-enhancing drugs. He subsequently owned up on YouTube, saying: “Yes, I’ve done steroids, and yes, I’m on steroids.”

The polarising influencer, whose real name is Brian Johnson, is now at the centre of a brand-new Netflix documentary that launched today (May 13). The film presents interviews with Johnson himself, his family, and those who supported him as he built up his enterprise.

The documentary’s synopsis reads: “He built a supplement empire by devouring raw meat on social media. And he had the muscles to prove it. But really, how did the Liver King get so huge?”

Where is the Liver King now?

Some of his followers may have had their trust in their fitness idol shaken after he disclosed using steroids, yet he still commands a massive audience on social media despite infrequent posts. He currently holds a whopping 6.1m TikTok followers, 2.9 million on Instagram, and has crossed the 1 million mark on YouTube, reports Surrey Live.

The documentary’s emotional climax features Johnson as he undergoes a transformation in outlook from his previously “extreme” regimen. He’s now cut out steroids and radically increased his consumption of fruits and vegetables.

In a memorable sequence, he’s shown expressing gratitude to each strawberry before consuming it.

“I was so convinced all of the carnivore stuff, well, that’s all you needed to really kick ass in life. I’m convinced now I was starving myself,” he reflects. “I guess I want the world to know that I was wrong. I got all of it wrong… There’s a lot more that I don’t know than I do know.

“An extreme approach to anything probably ain’t f****** working out. That’s probably the cautionary tale.”

The social media star has already plotted out his future venture, and is shown on camera revealing his plans for a series of 302 health and fitness retreats in a ranch-like setting.

Responses to the Netflix documentary are split so far. One disgruntled subscriber said: “Netflix, this might be rock bottom for you,” while another vented: “I hate that Netflix gave him a platform. So sick.”
